02:12 AM Deejay: moin
02:36 AM Loetmichel: soo, new day new chores... just started a drill program for my CNC mill vacuum bed... 3890 0,8mm drills 15mm deep... THAT will take a while ;)
03:11 AM Wolf__: better then doing all those by hand :P
03:32 AM Loetmichel: Wolf__: THATS for sure
04:21 AM gloops: had a go at drilling a vintage german saw blade - forget that lol
04:21 AM gloops: shows the difference between modern hss and old hss maybe, can drill a new one no problem
04:22 AM XXCoder: was it used?
04:22 AM XXCoder: old one may be work-hardened
04:22 AM Deejay: :D
04:22 AM Deejay: good old quality!
04:23 AM gloops: it is used yeah, not sure what make or age but it is very old and looks quality
04:24 AM gloops: just got it because it was small diameter - want to fit it on shaper for slitting but need 30mm bore
05:19 AM Tom_L: morning
05:22 AM XXCoder: yo
05:29 AM Loetmichel: gloops: thats the difference between german craftsmanship and chinese mass production for cheap i would say
05:29 AM Loetmichel: that saw was probably a months pay back in the day it was made
05:30 AM gloops: yeah ill be hanging on to it Loetmichel
05:30 AM tiwake: but no expenses back in the day
05:30 AM * Loetmichel still has some tools from his grandpa
05:32 AM Loetmichel: old wooden handle flathead screwdriver that i used for chiseling out cable slots in brick and mortar walls... still no round edges on the blade...
05:32 AM tiwake: consumerism was not nice to america
05:33 AM Loetmichel: AEG electric hammer drill from the 70s... 450W... can drill a 40mm hole in a 10mm thick truck back strut for a trailer plug no problem... the new 1100W bosch my friend bought burned up after half the hole
05:33 AM Loetmichel: :-)
05:33 AM Loetmichel: and the list would go on ;)
05:34 AM tiwake: right
05:34 AM tiwake: and you can actually rebuild it too
05:35 AM tiwake: used to work in an electric motor repair shop... I saw how those old electric motors were designed
05:35 AM Loetmichel: (and i didnt use a holesaw but those stepped "sheet metal" drills that have no spiral flute)
05:36 AM Loetmichel: that AEG managed to kick my chin more than once when it grabbed something in the hole
05:36 AM Loetmichel: maaan that thing has torque (AND endurance)
05:36 AM tiwake: thats what she said?
05:37 AM Deejay: lol
05:37 AM Loetmichel: To be fair: when we did the 40mm hole in the truck it WAS hot enough that i had do wear gloves and smelled like enamel paint. But it powered thru no matter what
05:38 AM Loetmichel: metal gearcase, too ,)
05:38 AM tiwake: cheap manufactured crap back then was pot metal
05:39 AM Loetmichel: nope, cast iron ;)
05:40 AM Loetmichel: the gearbox
05:40 AM tiwake: cast iron does not necessitate cheap manufacturing
05:40 AM Loetmichel: its an AEG
05:40 AM tiwake: pot metal does... heh
05:40 AM Loetmichel: back then they didnt know how "cheap" was written
05:41 AM Loetmichel: that drill WAS 2 monts salary for my dad back then
05:42 AM tiwake: I mean, I'll save up for a month or two to get a good drill sharpener... (darex)
06:04 AM Loetmichel: tiwake: and today you get drill bits like these: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14784
06:04 AM Loetmichel: mind you: i drilled that hole one handed with a battery drill...
06:04 AM Loetmichel: :-)
06:04 AM jthornton: how do you put the coating back on after sharpening them?
06:04 AM tiwake: enh
06:04 AM tiwake: jthornton: you don't
06:05 AM tiwake: Loetmichel: thats what cobalt drills are for
06:05 AM Loetmichel: (also notice how the golden coating scrapes off... i would bet its not TIN but gold. ;)
06:06 AM Loetmichel: tiwake: cheap chinese 300pcs drill bit set
06:06 AM Loetmichel: but HSS is SUPPOSED to break, not bend when overtaxed
06:06 AM XXCoder: gold as cheaper coating? lol
06:06 AM Loetmichel: how in gods name did i manage to get that flute rolled backwards???
06:07 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: gold is a LOT cheaper than TiN coating
06:07 AM XXCoder: i guess due to former being atomic vapor depostion and latter needing more
06:07 AM Loetmichel: nope, gold coating is done chemica
06:07 AM Loetmichel: l
06:08 AM Loetmichel: its about 2 atom layers thick ;)
06:08 AM XXCoder: cheaper then
06:08 AM Loetmichel: THAT gold coating
06:08 AM Loetmichel: if it is gold
06:08 AM XXCoder: i do want to try vacuum deposition but its so expenive just for lols
06:08 AM Loetmichel: but point was that a drill NEVER should bend like that
06:08 AM Loetmichel: it should break before THAT can happen
06:08 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:08 AM XXCoder: so fun
06:09 AM Loetmichel: and surely not onehanded with a weak battery drill
06:15 AM Loetmichel: its nice if you want to brag about you strength though... i could bend it back with bare hands ;)
06:16 AM XXCoder: you the hulk
06:16 AM Loetmichel: nope, that stuff is weak as lead
06:16 AM Loetmichel: no idea how the chinese managed to get steel so weak ;)
06:17 AM XXCoder: is it actually lead? would be funny
06:17 AM XXCoder: its probably butteralloy
06:17 AM sensille: which reminds me, haven't seen Topper in a while in Dilbert
06:17 AM Loetmichel: nah, it DID cut alu
06:17 AM Loetmichel: so probably not lead
06:18 AM Loetmichel: whi is topper?
06:18 AM Loetmichel: the intern?
06:18 AM jthornton: woke up at 4:28 thought the coffee pot will start in 2 minutes and I'll get up... next time I open my eyes it's 5:40 lol
06:18 AM Loetmichel: jthornton: classic
06:18 AM XXCoder: LATE!!
06:21 AM XXCoder: jthornton: remember the leds lighting stuff?
06:21 AM XXCoder: they stopped at only 1/3 od main work area, people didnt like it
06:21 AM XXCoder: offices etc all already done
06:22 AM jthornton: not bright enough?
06:22 AM XXCoder: yeah
06:23 AM XXCoder: if sun is shining in, it looks like someone forgot to turn on lights
06:23 AM XXCoder: but leds in restroom, etc is different type, and reasonable bright
06:24 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: to be fair: making lights that can compete with the sun is a hard thing to do
06:24 AM XXCoder: yeah but in least stuff is reasonable when you look away from sun
06:24 AM XXCoder: area sun is shing at that is
06:25 AM * Loetmichel has a 100W led in his desk lamp. because the ceiling lighting here is a "bit weak"
06:26 AM Loetmichel: ... and thats about 160* 58W flourecent on ~300m^2
06:26 AM jthornton: a company I do a lot of work for replaced all the 1000w MH high bay lights with LED's and they are brighter and you can see better now
06:26 AM XXCoder: nice. i guess they went too cheap
06:26 AM sensille: Loetmichel: https://dilbert.com/search_results?terms=Topper
06:26 AM XXCoder: so company is probably thinking on what to do.
06:26 AM XXCoder: company isnt bad one really, worked at many worse places
06:26 AM Loetmichel: sensille: yes, already googled it
06:27 AM Loetmichel: i remember hin
06:27 AM sensille: "i once sharpened a drill with my teeth!"
06:27 AM Loetmichel: so?
06:27 AM Loetmichel: i do that all the time
06:27 AM Loetmichel: :-)
06:28 AM sensille: no, you're supposed to go: "That's nothing! ..."
06:28 AM Loetmichel: ah, sorry
06:29 AM Loetmichel: "thats nothing, i make my own tungsten carbide D-bits out of broken endmill shafts... Freehand. with a dremel and a diamond-cutoff-disk!
06:29 AM Loetmichel: "
06:29 AM sensille: +1
06:29 AM Loetmichel: ... and unlike Topper i can prove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iaFb6WInuw :-)))
06:32 AM sensille: damn you
06:32 AM XXCoder: lol
06:33 AM Loetmichel: what?
06:34 AM Loetmichel: takes a while to get them right though
06:34 AM Loetmichel: first 20 or so didnt cut
06:35 AM Loetmichel: but i have no shortage on broken endmills and some time at hand while the CMC is running, so there's that.
06:35 AM Loetmichel: :-)
06:35 AM XXCoder: yah
06:38 AM jthornton: I wish the camera was in focus...
06:40 AM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: yeah, whished that, too
06:41 AM jthornton: I'm down in the beer cave...
07:31 AM beachbumpete1: Mornin' LinuxCNC :)
08:22 AM JT-Shop: yo
11:49 AM JT-Shop: roycroft: got those right angle flap wheels in today
12:18 PM jym: Morin folks
12:39 PM CaptHindsight: Germany and France are just smashing their record temps, way to go!
12:44 PM perry_j1987: morning
12:50 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Are you teasing them?
12:51 PM gloops: its not that warm here, 70f maybe
12:51 PM CaptHindsight: ^5
12:52 PM CaptHindsight: records were meant to be broken
12:52 PM x2s: Only 45 °C in southern France.
12:53 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Like going diving 60ft down and see how long you can last on one tank?
12:53 PM gloops: theyre used it though
12:56 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Or dive 100ft down for an hour and see how fast you can get back to the surface? =)
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: jym: no, more like jumping from a 60ft tower into water and then jumping from another foot higher each time until you can jump from an airplane without a parachute
12:57 PM jym: CaptHindsight: or free fall from the edge of space wearing a squirrel suit?
01:01 PM jym: Loetmichel: whats the vape channel again?
01:02 PM Loetmichel: ##vaperhangout
01:03 PM jym: Loetmichel: ty

04:33 PM jym: Deejay: dn9
06:05 PM Tom_L: jym do you dilute that mix with anything?
06:05 PM Tom_L: HFCS
06:07 PM jym: Tom_L: Then one I got from dollar tree? No, I was actualyl trying NOT to dilute it so it would maintain it's syrup state
06:09 PM jym: Tom_L: I ended up pouring the entire contents of the honey syrup in a soup can, heating it up and out a touch of borax is to disolve it
06:13 PM jym: cradek: Thought you might appreciate this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1njrXgu_IBg
06:19 PM CaptHindsight: jym: don't eat it!
06:20 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Nah, I have the bottle marked XXX =)

06:25 PM jym: Nice
06:28 PM jym: harvested and made my first sage bundle =)
06:28 PM CaptHindsight: need to find small artificial leaves
06:29 PM jym: arificial?
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: yes
06:29 PM jym: why?
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: so it looks real but is located in a very hot and dry area
06:30 PM jym: I'm in the forest, not desert =)
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: directly in front of a AC coil
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: gets hot air 24/7 May - Oct
06:32 PM jym: the bundle is for smudging
06:33 PM jym: I'm hoping those little bastards don't like that smell either
06:40 PM CaptHindsight: sage ant dressing
06:40 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Nah, the sage is for spider and mosquito control
06:40 PM CaptHindsight: not fans of sage?
06:41 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Mosquiots don't like sage, mint, lanvender, and something else I cna't recall
06:43 PM jym: CaptHindsight: The plants are a year old now and survived in the snow, so that's a good thing
06:44 PM jym: MY actual mosquito plants all froze =(
07:07 PM _unreal_: CaptHindsight, starting my peck cycle again
07:07 PM _unreal_: just got the broken drill bit out of the sub plate
07:07 PM _unreal_: screwed everything back down
07:08 PM _unreal_: modified the order this time I'm only drilling the aluminum plate
07:09 PM _unreal_: I'll do the cycle again with a different bit when I do the fiberglass board
07:09 PM _unreal_: Man I cant wait for my 48v psu to arrive
07:09 PM _unreal_: switching my spindle to 48 from 24
07:42 PM _unreal_: whooooo look at her go... real fast pecking
08:05 PM Tom_L: jym, maybe a teaspoon of borax?
08:06 PM _unreal_: odd, have not seen fdarling in a while
08:06 PM _unreal_: Tom_L, I'm pecking my work bed right now putting all the mounting holes in
08:08 PM _unreal_: I adjusted the pecking rates a bit 0.005 per peck and like the feed rate like 22" min feed rate on Z
08:08 PM _unreal_: zip ZIP zip ZIP zip ZIP
08:12 PM jym: Tom_L: The Terro ant bait only use 5% borax, so that was what I was attempting to achive
08:13 PM jym: Tom_L: Basically a very SLOW death, and enough time for them to take it back to the nest
08:17 PM Tom_L: and you've had success with this?
08:19 PM Tom_L: i picked some up today
09:01 PM * roycroft has been experiencing a slow death for over 60 years, and there is no end in sight
09:02 PM Elmo40: there is an end... there is always an end.
09:03 PM roycroft: of course there is
09:03 PM roycroft: but i can't see it yet
09:10 PM jym: roycroft: Go play with sharks? jellyfish? a butterknife? electric razor?
09:28 PM norias: hi
09:29 PM roycroft: i can run with scissors
09:29 PM norias: well. good.
09:32 PM roycroft: i can also wear white shoes before memorial day
09:32 PM roycroft: or even brown shoes with black trousers
09:32 PM * roycroft knows for risk
09:36 PM jym: roycroft: Or BLACK socks with sandles
09:36 PM jym: insta-death!
09:39 PM roycroft: any socks with sandals
09:39 PM roycroft: but i won't go that far
09:40 PM roycroft: i'm a birkenstock guy
09:40 PM roycroft: which should be obvious, given that i live in hippieland
09:41 PM roycroft: i do have tie-dye socks, but even those are not appropriate with birkenstocks
09:41 PM * roycroft does have his limits
09:46 PM * jym HIGH FIVES roycroft
09:47 PM * roycroft flashes a peace sign
