12:00 AM Wolf__: I’ve hit that goal post 3 times all with different aircraft lol
12:04 AM jym: LMAO
12:04 AM jym: are you trying to go under the wire?
12:04 AM Wolf__: 2 times flying los
12:04 AM Wolf__: yeah I was aiming for the gap but didn’t account for cross wind
12:04 AM jym: DOH
12:04 AM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/hKcwXQp.jpg this one hit @ about 40mph in to one of the uprights
12:07 AM jym: heh
12:07 AM jym: Oh this looks interesting... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MicAM_A0_lU
12:07 AM jym: esp32 cam for $9
12:11 AM Wolf__: thats kinda cool
12:13 AM jym: camera AND transceiver all in one
12:14 AM jym: plus you still have a bunch of I/O
12:14 AM jym: I believ eI saw an LED on the pcb too
12:15 AM jym: like smartphone flash type LED
12:15 AM Wolf__: yeah, looks like it
12:23 AM jym: better video example of qualityhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36p9To2hfak&feature=youtu.be
12:57 AM Deejay: moin
01:38 AM net|: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Hard-Briefcase-with-adjustable-strap-and-key-No-Brand/332522422653 fits smaller PSU's easily
05:27 AM Tom_L: morning
05:47 AM jthornton: monring
05:48 AM XXCoder: mnoring
10:45 AM jym: Monring
11:05 AM jym: Hey cradek
11:10 AM perry_j1987: morning all
11:10 AM gregcnc: did you figure out the cause of the undersize holes?
11:10 AM perry_j1987: not yet but the negative stock to leave solution is working for now
11:28 AM jym: Can't decide on which knife I want =(
11:29 AM perry_j1987: bread knife
11:31 AM jym: perry_j1987: A Mora knife... Either the 4.1" long blade (0.125" thick) OR the 8.1" long blade (0.010" thick)
11:31 AM perry_j1987: always the good standby butter knife
11:32 AM jym: ...that you can shave with as it comes razor sharp
11:32 AM perry_j1987: heh
11:33 AM perry_j1987: never trust a man that can't shave with a butter knife
11:33 AM perry_j1987: as the saying goes
11:33 AM gloops: theres only one knife to have really, damascus steel from a hells angels harleys bike chain
11:34 AM jym: gloops: I saw a three sided twist blad damascus steel knife the other day
11:35 AM perry_j1987: gloops they sell those on etsy? :P
11:35 AM gloops: not with a bone handle made from his shin
11:36 AM gloops: blade making seems all the rage atm, some big facebook groups
11:37 AM jym: gloops: and the sad thing is some of them that are "popular" aren't all that good
11:38 AM jym: Hmmm, I just dont like the tip onthe 8" one =(
11:39 AM jym: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51SerivfnpL._SL1500_.jpg
11:48 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.applied.com/continental-contitech-synchrochain is goodness here better than tactical ballistic timing belts for emergency 3D printing field operations?
12:13 PM gregcnc: I wonder how often they clean that motor?
12:14 PM gloops: another box prototype https://ibb.co/126CVdv
12:15 PM gregcnc: blood--- check, now for sweat and tears
12:16 PM gloops: only a scratch, i did check for missing fingers when i spotted it
12:19 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: the way the Alro outlet works is you stop by and look through their bins
12:20 PM gregcnc: only drops or do they also have precut lengths?
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: they can cut for you while you wait
12:20 PM CaptHindsight: will likely stop by there later
12:20 PM gregcnc: good to know
12:21 PM gregcnc: so online probably has only a fraction of the drops
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: yeah and you have to pick size type and shape...
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: then it gives you drop lengths and locations
12:23 PM CaptHindsight: I shopped around and if you buy >$100 the drop prices are ~50% of cut to length
12:23 PM CaptHindsight: some drops are only a few inches shorter than a full length
12:25 PM CaptHindsight: their UPS rates are also pretty good
12:26 PM gregcnc: I used onlinemetals a couple time recently and their ups seems high, but I haven't compared to book rates.
12:28 PM CaptHindsight: for less than truck freight amounts I usually go to metal supermarket in Rockford
12:28 PM CaptHindsight: they don't encourage it but they will cut while you wait
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: aluminum drops are $2/lb
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: steels $1/lb
12:31 PM CaptHindsight: but they might be bundling drops now, used to be able to just pick whatever and drop it on the scale
12:32 PM jym: remnants?
12:32 PM CaptHindsight: drops/remnants
12:32 PM jym: k
12:33 PM CaptHindsight: discarded lonely pieces of metal that get ignored in the corners
12:33 PM jym: lol
12:33 PM * jym almost wishes he had a sprinkler system
12:34 PM CaptHindsight: fire or lawn or both?
12:35 PM gregcnc: probably pixie dust
12:41 PM jym: pesticide and herbicide
12:43 PM jym: Just sprayed 2 months ago and had to spray again for bugs
12:44 PM jym: The ants are going nuts this year, not sure what to do about them. Already made bait traps and seeing how they work out
12:47 PM gloops: how about those gadgets that emit high pitch sounds?
12:48 PM gloops: https://www.amazon.co.uk/slp/ultrasonic-ant-repellent/g8ck5rd7gj6n6z9
12:49 PM gloops: a woman told me she had one in her conservatory, trying to remember what she said, it made the ants go in circles or something
12:51 PM jym: This is outdoors, need to kill the queen, so making and setting out bait traps, but sometimes t's hard to find the nest
12:51 PM jym: and you have to be a little patient as the workers take the bait back to the nest to feed others
12:52 PM gloops: can see how that works now yeah
12:53 PM jym: gloops: I just need to find the right "recipe"
12:54 PM gloops: something they find attractive, but will kill the larvae/other ants they feed it to
12:55 PM jym: The ingrediants are simple, borax, sugar, and water, it's the ratios I'm playing with
12:55 PM jym: 1 spoon of borax, 4 spoons of sugar, and still working on the water
12:57 PM gloops: honey or syrup maybe?
12:59 PM jym: I'm not sure if they are attracted to suctrous or glouclose
01:02 PM jym: Where's cheap HFCS when you need it =)
01:07 PM jym: HEY!!! otter pops have HFCS =)
01:09 PM jym: I wonder if the ants prefer Poncho punch or Little Orphan Orange flavored???
01:46 PM ziper: do they make grease that is thicker than axle grease
01:46 PM ziper: trying to quiet down the slop in a pin
01:48 PM roycroft: scrape some crude crust off the side of a tanker ship :)
01:48 PM roycroft: or maybe just use a lump of coal
01:50 PM ziper: I need to be able to get it around the hole
01:59 PM perry_j1987: ok i want to verify something, what number do you guys have for diameter to turn down for m4x7 threads ( im playing with threading stuff right now)
02:11 PM gloops: wonder if you could mix grease up with some graphite powder to make a thicker paste
02:12 PM Loetmichel: maaan, i just shouldnt watch so much videos about american barn find restaurations of pickups... just caught myself looking for F100 F150 and dodge D??? on mobile.de ;)
02:12 PM perry_j1987: lol
02:16 PM JT-Shop: perry_j1987: look up the major diameter for external metric threads
02:18 PM Tom_L: what's up today?
02:23 PM JT-Shop: making a part for Briggs ATM
02:24 PM Tom_L: nice
02:25 PM JT-Shop: 3 ops with multiple tools, each op takes a minute to run and 15 minutes to setup and break down lol
02:26 PM Tom_L: sounds about right
02:26 PM Tom_L: what sort of part?
02:27 PM Tom_L: that little mold i did last week or so took 8 tools
02:28 PM JT-Shop: it's an upper jaw for a lift and rotate that grinds the compression release on the cam shaft
02:29 PM JT-Shop: I built 3 machines to do that and they replaced 6 that they had
02:29 PM JT-Shop: <4 second cycle time
02:29 PM perry_j1987: JT-Shop I have but seen a few diff numbers on different sites
02:30 PM perry_j1987: it looks like i should be turning it down to 3.83 and then threading
02:30 PM Tom_L: you should see a consensus among sites on thread data or you're looking at the wrong data
02:31 PM JT-Shop: there is a min and max major dia
02:36 PM JT-Shop: https://www.engineersedge.com/hardware/metric-external-thread-sizes1.htm
02:36 PM JT-Shop: perry_j1987: that is the minimum major diameter
02:37 PM perry_j1987: and what is the pitch diameter numbers
02:40 PM JT-Shop: the diameter at the mid point of 1/2 of the height of the sharp V
02:41 PM Nick001-Shop: <JT-Shop> Using your servo tuning tutorial, on a Hardinge HCNC, how much of an axis move and what feedrate?
02:43 PM JT-Shop: start slow and work your way up, I just use the jog key and wait for the hal scope to finish picking up the trace
02:44 PM Nick001-Shop: does it matter that the amp is in current mode?
02:45 PM JT-Shop: that's above my pay grade :) I've only done velocity mode servos
02:46 PM Nick001-Shop: would that be voltage mode on an AMC amp?
02:50 PM gregcnc: No, use velocity mode
02:51 PM Tom_L: stupid ppl. order tuesday overnight and it still hasn't shipped
02:52 PM Nick001-Shop: I'm not seeing velocity mode for 25A20 AMC servo drive
02:54 PM gregcnc: this was in the HCNC?
02:56 PM gregcnc: do the motors have tachometer feedback?
02:58 PM Tom_L: Nick001-Shop i dunno if this will help or not: https://www.cnczone.com/forums/servo-motors-drives/380514-setting-amc-be25a20-torque-mode.html
02:59 PM Nick001-Shop: no- had GE amps but they got bad so I installed these. Now I'm getting some drifting on X drive and want to make sure I'm doing the tuning properly. I could have an amp going bad-have to determine which.
03:06 PM perry_j1987: ty
03:06 PM Nick001-Shop: Back to terminology problems again - everyone is saying torque and velocity modes and AMC has current and voltage modes on the spec sheets. Which is what?
03:08 PM gregcnc: which document are you looking at?
03:08 PM gregcnc: current=torque
03:09 PM gregcnc: if your motors have tachs, then i would use tach velocity
03:09 PM gregcnc: voltage is something else according to AMC docs
03:13 PM Nick001-Shop: I wired the tachs out because they've always been a source of trouble. I guess that's why I'm in current mode. Benn working OK for a couple of years now until recently with this x axis drift. Using resolvers instead of encoders.
03:14 PM gregcnc: OK so this isn't a setup question. you are using torque mode
03:14 PM gregcnc: tuning torque mode servos is not the same as velocity
03:15 PM Nick001-Shop: added current=torque to the spec sheet so I won't have to ask that dumb question again
03:17 PM Nick001-Shop: what is the differences I need to know and do using JT's tuning instructions
03:17 PM Deejay: gn8
03:17 PM Nick001-Shop: is/are
03:18 PM gregcnc: the drive has an offset pot for adjusting bias
03:19 PM Nick001-Shop: would that be reference gain? I'm using the terms on the AMC sheet
03:20 PM gregcnc: no the sheet calls is offset
03:21 PM Nick001-Shop: pot 4 on the sheet? pot functions?
03:31 PM * JT-Shop just finished making a rather interesting paper weight...
03:33 PM gregcnc: mine go into a bucket labelled scrap
03:35 PM JT-Shop: I don't even bother with a label lol
03:35 PM JT-Shop: a dovetail right through some tapped holes and some reamed holes
03:35 PM JT-Shop: so it does look pretty cool to see 1/2 of the thread
03:37 PM JT-Shop: lol the bios date on the VMC is 1991
03:51 PM roycroft: well, that mill i was looking at yesterday is sold
03:51 PM roycroft: i'm not surprised - it was really cheap
04:18 PM jym: JT-Shop Better than 1982 =)
04:30 PM jym: anyone played with clear two part epoxy resin? Could it hold together previously shattered glass?
04:30 PM jym: Not as a repair, but asthetically
04:30 PM jym: Think "glass glitter" sorta thing
04:36 PM perry_j1987: im actually getting threads that a nut can spin on now muahaha
04:36 PM perry_j1987: this is too much fun
04:45 PM gloops: excellent
04:45 PM Tom_L: now set that part up and thread it on a mill :)
04:45 PM tiwake: creating things is always fun
04:45 PM gloops: is this a chinese 6040 you got perry?
04:45 PM tiwake: even when it isn't fun its fun
04:46 PM perry_j1987: i have a 6040 and a 7x10 mini lathe
04:46 PM jym: perry_j1987: You sure you didn't just drill a hole int he nut? lol
04:46 PM perry_j1987: both on linuxcnc now
04:46 PM gloops: ahh right, not done the threads on mill then
04:46 PM tiwake: then talking about all the things you created is fun too
04:46 PM Tom_L: proving you did it is even better
04:47 PM Tom_L: it's called show n tell
04:48 PM SpeedEvil: https://imgur.com/gallery/89qktvA $1 vinyl cutter
04:48 PM JT-Shop: perry_j1987: are you cutting M4 threads on the lathe?
04:49 PM tiwake: this week and last week I was making custom JIC fittings
04:49 PM perry_j1987: ya
04:50 PM perry_j1987: they are so small hard to see if they look right but the nut spins on heh
04:51 PM jym: SpeedEvil: Damn he's good, I wonder what hea's using
04:53 PM gloops: yeahs, hes got the vinyl applied and cut before the machine would be warmed up
05:07 PM jym: Hell it take me like 40 minutes just to apply the vinyl properly
05:07 PM jym: and another 2 hours to get rid of the bubbles
05:15 PM SpeedEvil: jym: I have considered taking toughened glass, covering the bottom with something, then coloured epoxy on the top, shatter the glass, wait for the epoxy to be vacuumed in, and then clean off the surface.
05:16 PM _unreal_: I love this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c19NzKRkv7E
05:23 PM jym: SpeedEvil: I have the shattered glass already, trying to "place" (and seal the sharp edges) using "something"
05:27 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: lots of drops at Alro, long pieces of SS, cold and hot roll and 6061
05:28 PM CaptHindsight: lots of blocks of tool steels, not much longer than 10-12"
05:28 PM CaptHindsight: they also have 4 and 8ft lengths of everything that they cut while you wait
05:29 PM SpeedEvil: jym: do you have a vacuum pump?
05:30 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: prices varied for drops based on alloy but they only charged me the low 99 cents/lb rate for everything
05:31 PM jym: SpeedEvil: Yeah, actually I do
05:32 PM SpeedEvil: You could treat it like vacuum bagging.
05:37 PM gregcnc: CaptHindsight sounds good I'll have to check it out
05:38 PM jym: SpeedEvil: I was thinking of placing the shattered glass in a "stencil" (of sorts), then pouring a resin in to encapsulate it all (in theory)
05:39 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: very little ground, flat. hardened etc in small sizes
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: 2x2 no problem, 3/8 x <2" forget it
05:41 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: lots of 45 deg gussets in every size
05:41 PM CaptHindsight: not sure how accurate they are cut
05:42 PM CaptHindsight: probably close enough for welding a basketball hoop mast, not enough for a precision machine of any type
05:43 PM jym: _unreal_: What did you like about that video?
05:44 PM jym: SpeedEvil: phuk it elmers glue =)
05:45 PM CaptHindsight: jym: why not shattered pieces of acrylic in resin?
05:45 PM CaptHindsight: much safer
05:46 PM CaptHindsight: acrylic in acrylic
05:47 PM jym: CaptHindsight: sheer cost
05:47 PM jym: and availability, I am in BFE =)
05:50 PM jym: CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/amBMqHB.jpg
05:57 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Heh, so I replaced the killawatt meter and mains is back to 120VAC from 3VAC
06:03 PM andypugh: Who was talking about a Mac-Pro styled Pi case yesterday? https://a360.co/2Rt4wax
06:04 PM andypugh: I am very tepmted to make it
06:04 PM andypugh: (This is my own design)
06:05 PM jym: andypugh: I'd like to see it
06:05 PM andypugh: ?
06:06 PM jym: andypugh: the pi case you'll make
06:06 PM andypugh: Did you follow the link?
06:06 PM CaptHindsight: jym: open the link using a browser other than FF
06:06 PM jym: Not a rendering, the REAL thing
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: for a price Andy will fabricate and send you one or more :)
06:07 PM jym: photos will be enough, I havne't played with pi's
06:07 PM andypugh: I guess there might actually be a demand. Though China is probably already tooling up/
06:08 PM jym: Hmmm, nothing fried on the killawatt pcb's
06:09 PM jym: andypugh: s/tooling up/ in production/
06:10 PM jym: CaptHindsight: see the pic?
06:12 PM Tom_L: https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/small-case/development-board/1593ham-rasp
06:14 PM _unreal_: ok finally got around to it running the hole pattern so I can mount my waste board
06:16 PM _unreal_: I currently have my home cnc set using grbl for the time being. WHAT a POS...
06:20 PM jym: andypugh: It's been nicknamed "the cheese grater"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=378&v=s29YZqe9Cso
06:26 PM _unreal_: could be that I'm not using an ARDUINO arduino. but regardless its the same chip.
06:27 PM jym: _unreal_: ???
06:28 PM _unreal_: jym, I FARKED my really nice motion control board. it was mounted side ways. could not see at all that my power plug for it missed its mark and I plugged high power +v directly into ground
06:28 PM _unreal_: shit design
06:28 PM _unreal_: so I'm just trying to get my machine moving again. with an arduino and the arduino keeps locking up
06:29 PM _unreal_: I just put 2 holes in my work bed because it stopped responding and Z kept going
06:29 PM Tom_L: not good
06:29 PM _unreal_: nope
06:30 PM jym: _unreal_: which arduino?
06:30 PM _unreal_: so as I said the arduino board I'm using is not a genuin arduino uno
06:30 PM _unreal_: some kock off that came with a bunch of motor controllers for next to nohting
06:30 PM _unreal_: heh the board just says uno
06:31 PM jym: reflash it?
06:31 PM _unreal_: yep clean flash
06:31 PM jym: ah
06:32 PM _unreal_: I'm betting its ether the grbl code OR a crapy usb interface chip
06:32 PM _unreal_: for all I know they designed the board missing some CAPs or resistors or something
06:32 PM jym: do you have a FTDI board?
06:32 PM _unreal_: I do
06:32 PM _unreal_: but this is just for now
06:33 PM jym: bypass the one on the fakeduino and use the FTDI
06:33 PM _unreal_: My battery just arrived. so I'm going to get that soldered into my laptop see if I can get my p4 laptop with a par port back to life
06:33 PM _unreal_: the W%QEW$QE$R bios battery died
06:33 PM _unreal_: and its a rechargable bios battery tiny button cell
06:33 PM jym: It's a P4, that smply explan that =)
06:34 PM _unreal_: huh?
06:34 PM _unreal_: I'm running my cnc from this computer currently
06:34 PM _unreal_: bcnc
06:35 PM jym: P4 laptop... OOOOLLLLLDDDDD
06:35 PM _unreal_: and it will do just fine with linuxcnc or mach3
06:37 PM jym: IT explains the dead battery is all, dont care if it powers a beermachine =)
06:37 PM _unreal_: !!! omg your a genius.... a p4 beermachine.. I could get behind that
06:38 PM jym: _unreal_: Jsut feel lucky that it's not two coconut BIOS battery!!!
06:38 PM _unreal_: ?
06:38 PM _unreal_: I dont know what that means
06:38 PM jym: _unreal_: what did two coconuts power???
06:38 PM jym: That was a hint
06:41 PM _unreal_: ok thats it bios soldered in
06:41 PM _unreal_: no clue
06:41 PM _unreal_: not to be dense or anything but I really dont know
06:42 PM _unreal_: I'm not sure what your refering to....
06:42 PM _unreal_: too
06:42 PM tiwake: CaptHindsight: what was that solvent base anodizing dye you mention every once in a while again?
06:44 PM jym: _unreal_: Gilligan's Island Radio
06:44 PM Tom_L: some aren't as old as you jym
06:47 PM jym: Tom_L: Just go sit back in your walker already befor eI hit you with CaptHindsight's cane!
06:47 PM jthornton: well my disk duplicator died so I guess I can toss it in the trash
06:48 PM jym: jthornton: Just toss a pi it instead
06:49 PM Tom_L: jt's havin a rough day today
06:50 PM jthornton: I did get a second part done tonight so I can deliver it in the morning...
06:53 PM jym: jthornton: embedded clonezilla
06:54 PM jthornton: I've used clonezilla in the past until I got the duplicator...
06:55 PM jym: jthornton: I'm just suggesting to use a pi (or other uPC) and repurpose the dead enclosure
06:56 PM jthornton: what would you make out of it?
06:57 PM jym: jthornton: You could use the liveCd version of clonezilla on a microSD card and revive your duplicator
06:58 PM jym: jthornton: Maybe a mini NAS box ?
06:59 PM jym: I've been booting my NAS box off a uSD card for years
06:59 PM jthornton: I could if I had unlimited time and nothing to do but it's the opposite no spare time and zillion things to do/get done
07:00 PM jym: save for winter time?
07:01 PM jthornton: what does winter have to do with me not having spare time to put into time sinks?
07:01 PM Tom_L: had to unthaw my A coil today. it had turned into a block of ice due to all the humidity around here
07:01 PM jthornton: that's not good
07:01 PM Tom_L: all back up again
07:01 PM jthornton: inside should be low humidity when the AC is on...
07:02 PM jthornton: was it dirty?
07:02 PM Tom_L: may have been a dirty filter not letting enough air thru
07:02 PM Tom_L: no it's only maybe 2 yrs old
07:02 PM jthornton: that could do it
07:02 PM Tom_L: been watching it and it looks fine now
07:02 PM jym: jthornton: NAS4FREE https://www.xigmanas.com/
07:03 PM Tom_L: suppose i could have turned the heat on to thaw it
07:03 PM Tom_L: took a torch to the outside until it could breath then turned the fan on until it quit dripping water
07:04 PM jym: dripping water?! ouch
07:04 PM Tom_L: normal drainage
07:05 PM Tom_L: when it quit i knew the underside was thawed out too
07:05 PM jym: AC COIL? or A-AXIS motor coil?
07:05 PM Tom_L: ac coil
07:06 PM jym: OH Ok, I was thinking motor coil
07:06 PM jthornton: A coil the one inside the house in the air handler
07:06 PM jym: "had to unthaw my A coil today." A, not AC (simple typo)
07:06 PM jthornton: made sense to me
07:06 PM Tom_L: the old unit was still working but getting pretty ragged looking so i replaced it a couple years ago
07:07 PM Tom_L: the aluminum fins were getting pretty corroded around the bottom
07:08 PM Tom_L: i don't think we've ever had this much constant rain in a season
07:09 PM jym: freaky weather all around
07:09 PM jthornton: I can't remember this much rain in the spring here either, but I've only been here 20 some odd years
07:10 PM jym: Maybe all that global warmer they talk about is actually catching up?
07:10 PM jym: warming*
07:10 PM jym: less ice caps, more percipitation?
07:11 PM jym: Year before last we broke 100 year rainfall in 4 days.
07:11 PM jym: like 104 inches in 4 days
07:13 PM Tom_L: get lots of barrels
07:14 PM jym: 300 gallon ICB totes are $125
07:15 PM jym: And after the wildfire, in very high demand. The fire melted the towns plastic water mains and contaiminated them
07:16 PM jym: it costs $60 to have 300 gallons of potable water delivered
07:25 PM jym: I cna't help but feel bad for them
07:54 PM CaptHindsight: jym: plastic water mains? above ground?
07:54 PM jym: CaptHindsight: below ground
07:54 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Yes, plastic water mains
07:55 PM CaptHindsight: jym: how deep were they?
07:56 PM jym: CaptHindsight: I'm not sure, I'm on a different water company
07:58 PM jym: CaptHindsight: benzene leeching intot the water is the issue
07:59 PM CaptHindsight: hah, when we were kids we used to swim in benzine
07:59 PM CaptHindsight: benzene even
08:00 PM CaptHindsight: after swimming we would use it to start a fire to dry off
08:05 PM mmachines: noticed the Logitech gamepad f710 is on sale today on amazon
08:05 PM mmachines: I use this on my router
08:25 PM jym: CaptHindsight: Human torch?
08:27 PM gregcnc: AC should never freeze up? sound like bad charge
08:28 PM jym: gregcnc: I think he means condensation collected on the outside and froze
08:28 PM gregcnc: the outside should be hot
08:28 PM jym: on the condenser (?)
08:28 PM jym: oh true
08:28 PM jym: maybe the part inside?
08:29 PM gregcnc: yes, but it shouldn't freeze. could be air restriction
08:29 PM jym: gregcnc: maybe, I think he cleared the bloackage
08:30 PM gregcnc: my dehumidifer was freezing up, turned out to be full of dust
08:30 PM jym: lovely
08:31 PM gregcnc: works great again
08:32 PM jym: I'm just working on battery cooling during blackouts at night when the generator is off
08:32 PM gregcnc: battery cooling?
08:33 PM gregcnc: did the grid go down?
08:33 PM jym: gregcnc: 20" whole house fan and deep cycle battery https://i.imgur.com/ve2OxBD.jpg
08:33 PM jym: gregcnc: There ARE going to be blackouts during high fire risk
08:33 PM gregcnc: ah
08:33 PM jym: already had a 20 hour blackout last week
08:34 PM jym: Just need to be able to cool the house at night
08:35 PM gregcnc: i was looking at charger inverters for the sump pump a while back, not exactly cheap
08:35 PM jym: gregcnc: wattage?
08:36 PM gregcnc: I think 1200W rated to start the pump
08:37 PM jym: gregcnc: that $40 750/1500W HF inverter powered that fan and a mini frig off my car running
08:37 PM jym: The deep cycle battery I have is like 10yo
08:37 PM gregcnc: inverters are cheap today, but I was looking at somethign that would switch to battery by itself
08:38 PM gregcnc: is the battery any good?
08:38 PM jym: IT's on it's last leg =) Probably down to 1/2rd it's original capacity
08:38 PM gregcnc: my experience with walmart grade deepcylces says they are garbage
08:38 PM jym: one third
08:38 PM gregcnc: yeah
08:39 PM jym: I ran the fan until the inverter when into low voltage shutdown, about 5 hours. By the ratings on the battery (100Ah reserve) it should have run 15 hours
08:40 PM jym: but it's 10yo, so it's all good
08:40 PM gregcnc: batteries are expensive if you want power, even if you just replace cheap regualrly
08:41 PM jym: I'm sure it was used and abused, I got it part of a solar panel seetup off craigslist , sold the panels kept the battery
08:42 PM jym: Is 17VDC no-load "okey" for the charging jack on a generator? Seems little high
08:44 PM gregcnc: seems high but if it drops to 14.5 at an amp or so it won't cook the battery. manual should say if you can charge indefinitely on that
08:51 PM jym: Just read the manual say "CHARGING ONLY" not to use 12VDC appliances on it, but it's rated for 8A
08:51 PM jym: I might run it thru my solar charge controller which cna handle 29V input
09:18 PM kritteRR: So I got my cheapo chinese CNC special assembled and boy howdy, lemme tell you, it sure does spin, whirrrrr and whatnot, and now I'm at the stage where I need to select a toolchain and test it out.
09:18 PM kritteRR: I'm wanting to carve some very simple art into a single sided copperclad board.
09:18 PM kritteRR: What's something I can read to learn about how to do this?
09:27 PM kritteRR: Basically, CAD I have all locked down, but CAM is new to me.
09:27 PM kritteRR: gcode is not, as I have a 3D printer
09:27 PM kritteRR: So basically I want to read all about CAM.
09:34 PM jym: https://www.norwegiancreations.com/2015/08/an-intro-to-g-code-and-how-to-generate-it-using-inkscape/
09:37 PM kritteRR: Thanks. I just created my first heightmap in Candle.
09:38 PM kritteRR: It only touched at four spots.
09:38 PM kritteRR: Is that sufficient for PCB purposes if I expect my boards are relatively flat?
09:40 PM gloops: whats the CAM that is associated with linuxcnc now...Ichs used to use it
09:40 PM gloops: NativeCam
09:41 PM kritteRR: Heightmap is more fun than it has any right to be.
09:41 PM gloops: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/nativecam
09:41 PM kritteRR: Candle is the grbl control software I'm using. Is that acceptable?
09:41 PM gloops: i dont know anything about grbl
09:42 PM kritteRR: Don't worry, we're in the same boat.
09:42 PM kritteRR: That's the firmware that lives on the machine, yeah?
09:42 PM gloops: freecad generates gcode
09:42 PM kritteRR: solidworks probably can be coaxed into it
09:42 PM kritteRR: which i have
09:42 PM gloops: fusion 360
09:44 PM perry_j1987: grbl is firmware for microcontroller like the arduino uno
09:44 PM perry_j1987: linuxcnc will run on an old desktop you have laying around
09:48 PM kritteRR: so just like a 3D printer, save my stl and then STL goes into the cam-hole?
09:51 PM gloops: for linuxcnc i generate the gcode in the form of a .ngc file, then load that file into linuxcnc
09:53 PM gloops: if you are wanting to carve out 3d stl forms, youre probably wanting a 3d CAM strategy
09:54 PM perry_j1987: fusion360 will be a good asset for you to download
09:54 PM gloops: as opposed to achieving a part shape using different operations like pocket, profile, surface
10:00 PM gloops: https://ibb.co/Fx9m775 3d finishing path from vectric aspire
10:00 PM gloops: hopelessly long to cut
10:14 PM Tom_L: lotsa line segments?
10:17 PM Tom_L: gloops, grbl is a subset of RS274 code
10:17 PM Tom_L: alot of things were left out
10:17 PM jym: ...like bacon wrapped bacon on a stick
10:18 PM jym: ...with cheese
10:18 PM gloops: more than 50000 lines of code that skull i think
10:18 PM Tom_L: that's not so bad
10:18 PM jym: gloops: but that's 2.5D
10:19 PM gloops: yes
10:19 PM jym: how many tools?
10:20 PM gloops: roughing with 6mm ball then finishing with 3.175 ball - 2 tools
10:20 PM Tom_L: should keep you busy a while
10:20 PM jym: and your machine running for 12 hours =)
10:21 PM gloops: yeah thats the thing, its a days job, you wont be selling skull carvings for $5 apiece
10:22 PM gloops: im going to make some moulds for casting in pewter...one day
10:22 PM gloops: with that skull
10:23 PM Tom_L: how big is it?
10:23 PM jym: use the mold for vacuum forming
10:23 PM gloops: can make it whatever size you want as its all vector lines, that was about 100mm i think
10:25 PM gloops: jym id consider resin casting with some metal powder
