12:29 AM Deejay: moin
01:48 AM Elmo40: moo
05:23 AM Tom_itx: morning
05:35 AM jthornton: morning
05:42 AM XXCoder: :(
05:42 AM XXCoder: one of cool older coworkers moved away
05:42 AM XXCoder: i was in vacation so never got to say goodbye
05:46 AM XXCoder: interesting sideline: shop is changing lights to led. dunno if would be better.
05:46 AM XXCoder: huge power savings AND also way less heat generation. shop gets to 110f in bad summers
05:52 AM x2s: Depends a bit on the LEDs used. I hope for you somebody thought about CRI, color temperature, lumen and direction of the beam
05:52 AM XXCoder: its bit bluish
05:53 AM XXCoder: glare pretty strong
05:53 AM x2s: I have a 40 W LED panel sitting right over me and it feels like I'm sitting in sunlight. Which is good
05:53 AM x2s: ok, sounds nobody thought about the obvious stuff :(
05:55 AM XXCoder: sounds nice
05:55 AM XXCoder: like what?
05:56 AM x2s: well, you don't want blue-ish light, you want white light. So the CRI is off. Strong glare doesn't sound good either.
05:57 AM x2s: Most people don't know that you can't just use cheap LED bulbs if you want a good working environment
05:57 AM XXCoder: it looks unusual
05:58 AM XXCoder: like square thing with arrays of leds
05:58 AM XXCoder: it has motion detect
05:58 AM XXCoder: right now its ehh but then 75% of shop is still ancient tube type
05:58 AM XXCoder: installed at 2005 and most lights is still orginial
06:00 AM x2s: Well, fluorescent lamps with electronic ballast are almost as efficient as LED tubes. And they are brighter as well.
06:01 AM x2s: Do the old ones flicker when they are turned on? Or are they just on?
06:02 AM XXCoder: on forever basically
06:07 AM x2s: probably the old ones. But if they need replacement anyways switching to LED is an easy option here. Still, somebody should've looked at the CRI value and stuff
06:08 AM XXCoder: yeah hope if its bad, it gets swapped. it seems to be reasonable same brightness tho
06:08 AM XXCoder: less scattering though
06:09 AM x2s: yeah, those LED tubes are getting brighter each year. They started off pretty dim
06:51 AM jthornton: what is CRI?
06:51 AM XXCoder: light values thing i dont know much more.
06:52 AM jthornton: I have 6000k LED tubes for the shop, need to get them installed
06:53 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C9CMCT8
06:53 AM jthornton: 120 LUMENS PER WATT – This high output 4ft tube has a lumen count of 2260 and a CRI rating of 85+.
06:54 AM XXCoder: ah! Color rendering index
06:54 AM XXCoder: higher it is, the better stuff color looks
07:19 AM x2s: exactly.
07:19 AM x2s: And I try to get stuff with >90
07:19 AM XXCoder: well from what I saw
07:19 AM XXCoder: shop is going to have shitty cfi
07:19 AM XXCoder: *cri
07:20 AM x2s: well, then you can have fun with your colleagues. Get green stuff and ask them if it's brown or green ;)
07:20 AM XXCoder: lol
07:59 AM beachbumpete1: Mornin' :)
08:15 AM Tom_itx: hey pete
08:21 AM beachbumpete1: Hey Tom howzitgoin?
08:25 AM Tom_itx: good, just about to head out
08:25 AM Tom_itx: you?
08:26 AM beachbumpete1: Ok Working a lot but enjoying the CNC stuff over her.
08:26 AM beachbumpete1: here
08:31 AM Tom_itx: you got some new ones recently didn't you?
08:38 AM beachbumpete1: Tom_itx: my internet is flakin out on me
08:38 AM beachbumpete1: yeah we have like four now if you include the 3D SLA printer
08:39 AM beachbumpete1: Been making some neat stuff with the CR Onsrud
08:43 AM beachbumpete1: https://imgur.com/a/ZzAIxWP
08:45 AM FinboySlick: Dead tree carcasses!
08:47 AM beachbumpete1: yup
08:47 AM beachbumpete1: did I hurt your feelings hehe
08:48 AM FinboySlick: No. Just spreading the gospel of AvE.
08:49 AM gloops: the problem with linear mouldings on cnc is the straightness/uniformity of the timber ive found
08:49 AM beachbumpete1: AvE?
08:51 AM FinboySlick: beachbumpete1: The grand poet of youtube 'machinists' (or tool review, varied content). You'll have a lot of fun if you've never watched his stuff.
08:54 AM beachbumpete1: Never heard of him
08:54 AM FinboySlick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi4vaOTWYOo
08:54 AM beachbumpete1: It was kinda fun programming like twelve different 3D crown and Crown base molds
08:54 AM beachbumpete1: The CR Onsrud CNC Router works great
08:55 AM beachbumpete1: altho it does need to be drip fed due to the size of the files
08:55 AM beachbumpete1: Had to figure out how to make that work
08:55 AM beachbumpete1: but now it will run just about anything
08:59 AM beachbumpete1: https://imgur.com/a/3r39D1m
09:00 AM beachbumpete1: Here is some more 3D CNC machined parts we recently did. The round Casing was a test run now we have to machine a BUNCH of large oval shaped ones similar to that.
09:00 AM FinboySlick: beachbumpete1: The one I linked is a good overall example of his content. He does pretty good vulgarization of the underlying principles. Also demonstrate his creative use of the english language.
09:01 AM beachbumpete1: hehe
09:01 AM beachbumpete1: I will need to watch some of that.
09:01 AM beachbumpete1: I never thought I would be tasked to do so much 3D machining this is really cool...
09:03 AM FinboySlick: beachbumpete1: You seem to be handling it rather well. Those are some great parts. Custom moulding for the rich and famous?
09:03 AM beachbumpete1: Yeah man I feel pretty good about it. I have been playing with 3D stuff in my own shop for awhile but this is something different every day.
09:04 AM beachbumpete1: Most of it is for the rich and famous for sure
09:04 AM FinboySlick: Just enough pressure to perform to keep you challenged, I bet.
09:04 AM beachbumpete1: that crown cap mockup is like 2 and a half feet tall
09:04 AM beachbumpete1: I feel pretty fortunate to be doing this honestly
09:05 AM beachbumpete1: We are getting ready to design and bunch of custom articulating louvers
09:06 AM beachbumpete1: I have made parts from aluminum, stainless steel, hardwoods, MDF, plastics etc. etc.
09:06 AM beachbumpete1: it is fairly challenging and right now I am the only one here that has any idea how to do this stuff LOL.
09:06 AM FinboySlick: beachbumpete1: Another favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivrxXEUWHL8
09:07 AM FinboySlick: "swing press"
09:07 AM beachbumpete1: Speaking of needs I am trying to find a THIN strong nylon or delrin gear rack and spur gear setup for another project the smaller the better and it needs to be about 48" long
09:12 AM beachbumpete1: Swing press.... a Hamma?
09:18 AM FinboySlick: "known by the state of cancer to cause california"
09:31 AM beachbumpete1: California is dead..
09:38 AM FinboySlick: Says the florida man ;)
09:39 AM beachbumpete1: Yeah man but I used to live there...
09:39 AM FinboySlick: beachbumpete1: Had you factored in the 'Florida man' stigma when you moved from Tennessee?
09:41 AM beachbumpete1: Well I have lived in Florida MOST of my life grew up in Palm Beach area which is why I moved back here.
09:43 AM FinboySlick: OK. So you're the real deal.
09:45 AM beachbumpete1: I guess so hehe
09:45 AM beachbumpete1: can't beat the fishing
09:52 AM FinboySlick: There's a 'floridaman' twitter account detail the exploits/headlines of that great american super-hero. "Florida man eats police car", as well as "Security camera catches Florida Man licking doorbell" are choice examples.
09:55 AM beachbumpete1: jeez
09:55 AM beachbumpete1: there always has to be nuts I guess
10:41 AM FinboySlick: "Florida Man Burst Through Wall With Pants Around His Ankles as He Attempts to Rob Hyundai Dealership"
10:45 AM perry_j1987: morning
10:46 AM gloops: howdy
11:33 AM Tom_itx: perry_j1987, you get your tool diameter figured out?
11:33 AM perry_j1987: no its all discombobulated
11:33 AM perry_j1987: i was just trying to figure out these gcode lines to sketch it in fusion to visualize where it thinks its going to verify that
11:36 AM Tom_itx: arcs?
11:36 AM perry_j1987: ya
11:36 AM perry_j1987: X4.73 Y6.792 Z-0.25 I0.73 J1.264
11:36 AM perry_j1987: X3.27 Y4.263 Z-0.5 I-0.73 J-1.264
11:36 AM perry_j1987: like that
11:37 AM Tom_itx: x y are the center, I & J are the arc endpoint
11:37 AM Tom_itx: if it's G17 (which it is)
11:37 AM perry_j1987: aye g17
11:37 AM Tom_itx: workplane
11:37 AM Tom_itx: G17 18 19 determine the workplane
11:38 AM Tom_itx: XY XZ or YZ
11:39 AM Tom_itx: if you make a test with the center at zero it might be easier for you to follow
11:40 AM Tom_itx: those look like helix
11:40 AM perry_j1987: ya its doing a helix down
11:40 AM Tom_itx: since Z changes
11:40 AM perry_j1987: 6mm with a 1/8 endmill
11:40 AM Tom_itx: i always program the tool center in my cad
11:41 AM Tom_itx: and do an offset the tool R to the finished dimension
11:41 AM Tom_itx: and if i want a finish pass, i'll go another .010 or so off that
11:49 AM perry_j1987: how can i input this into a sketch to verify its generating correctly
11:51 AM Tom_itx: i don't do f360
11:51 AM perry_j1987: just coordinates
11:51 AM Tom_itx: inch or metric?
11:51 AM perry_j1987: metric
11:51 AM gregcnc: Why would fusion be wrong?
11:52 AM perry_j1987: because my holes are wrong heh
11:52 AM Tom_itx: 6mm hole how deep?
11:52 AM perry_j1987: 20mm plate
11:52 AM gregcnc: fusions is used in many shops at this point, you aren't a beta tester
11:53 AM Tom_itx: .125 cutter?
11:53 AM gregcnc: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/gcode/g-code.html#gcode:g2-g3
11:53 AM perry_j1987: ya
11:53 AM perry_j1987: aye i know im not beta testing it lol but there are alot of buttons to click :P
11:54 AM gregcnc: in other words you need to learn how to use it not check if it's wrong?
11:54 AM perry_j1987: i want to verify it generated what im expecting so i know if its the gcode or physical issue
11:54 AM gregcnc: your post is linuxcnc?
11:54 AM perry_j1987: ya
11:55 AM gregcnc: code is G2/3?
11:55 AM perry_j1987: g3
11:57 AM gregcnc: so for line g3 X4.73 Y6.792 Z-0.25 I0.73 J1.264 the move is from current position to X4.73 Y6.792 Z-.25 with an arc center at X4. Y5.528
11:58 AM gregcnc: ack, i subracted I andJ it should be added
11:59 AM gregcnc: So center is X5.46 y8.056
12:00 PM gloops: no preview in f360?
12:00 PM gregcnc: also this is relevant http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/gcode/g-code.html#gcode:g90.1-g91.1
12:01 PM gregcnc: so arc center could equal I,J values depending on G90.1,91.1
12:01 PM Tom_itx: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/temp/helix/6mm_helix_metric.ngc
12:01 PM gregcnc: if the post is complete is should set this for you though
12:02 PM Tom_itx: that _should_ be a helix for a 6mm hole at x0 y0
12:02 PM Tom_itx: (no guarantee)
12:04 PM Tom_itx: using a .125" cutter
12:05 PM gregcnc: default is G90.1 absolute, so so X,Y equal I,J
12:06 PM Tom_itx: i've never used G90.1 or G91.1
12:06 PM Tom_itx: just G90 91 and usually G90
12:07 PM gregcnc: G90.1 is default
12:09 PM gregcnc: ugh no relative is default G91.1
12:09 PM gregcnc: i'm out of order right now, time for more coffee
12:10 PM Tom_itx: maybe a beer is in order
12:10 PM gregcnc: too early, nothing would get done
12:10 PM Tom_itx: i'm getting nothing done anyway
12:10 PM perry_j1987: can see how i'd be confused if you two are haha
12:10 PM gregcnc: have you read the G code docs?
12:10 PM perry_j1987: yes
12:11 PM gregcnc: is the cutter size entered correctly in F360?
12:11 PM perry_j1987: ya
12:12 PM gregcnc: which function are you using?
12:12 PM perry_j1987: boring
12:12 PM Tom_itx: just hand code it. it's good for the soul
12:14 PM perry_j1987: aye i'd like to get into that
12:17 PM gregcnc: if the tool is correctly defined and there is no stock to leave it should post accurate code
12:17 PM perry_j1987: gloops sorry didnt see what you said earlier, ya there's preview and it simulates perfectly to the model im just getting significantly smaller holes when i run it and wanted to verify things
12:20 PM gregcnc: is this the only feature of incorrect size cut by this tool?
12:20 PM perry_j1987: i did a 100x100 box in some mdf that was dead on
12:20 PM perry_j1987: with this cutter
12:21 PM Tom_itx: how far off is it?
12:25 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
12:30 PM perry_j1987: the box measured with calipers shown exactly 100.00mm
12:30 PM Tom_L: no, the holes
12:30 PM perry_j1987: ah
12:30 PM perry_j1987: 5.4ish
12:30 PM Tom_L: that's the hole size or how far it's off?
12:30 PM perry_j1987: its suppose to be 6mm hole
12:30 PM perry_j1987: comes out to 5.4
12:30 PM Tom_L: is it round?
12:30 PM roycroft: the holes being too small is a better problem to have than the holes being too large
12:31 PM Tom_L: looks like about 7 passes for the hole
12:31 PM Tom_L: in z
12:32 PM perry_j1987: in simulation its just doing one helix down and then back up and then back down and then once around to clean it up
12:33 PM Tom_L: for a test i would do a single hole with XY center at 0
12:33 PM perry_j1987: oh sorry 2 finish passes it does
12:33 PM Tom_L: i think it would be easier for you to diagnose
12:34 PM perry_j1987: ok i'll set that up
12:36 PM Tom_L: keep track of what you change in f360 and what result you get
12:37 PM Tom_L: don't do a cleanup pass until you get it right without
12:37 PM miss0r2: ok - so.. at the moment I am in my shop drawing sketches on a piece of plywood, using a pair of panties and bra's...
12:37 PM miss0r2: :)
12:39 PM miss0r2: We are going to a friend of mines wedding this weekend. and all he basically wants is US currency to have a blast going there on his honeymoon... But I don't want to just hand over some cash, so I'm making a female template out of some plywood + adding a stand to it. I will equip it with the ladies underwear and shove it full of 1 dollar bills(stripper style). Some 300 one dollar bills. :) That way he will never
12:39 PM miss0r2: forget. PLUS it will take up alot of space, and generally be in the way :D
12:39 PM perry_j1987: ok
12:39 PM Tom_L: bbl
12:40 PM perry_j1987: lol miss0r2
12:40 PM perry_j1987: diabolical cnc plans eh
12:40 PM miss0r2: perry_j1987: Yeah - that is what I am thinking.. my wife is not completely on the same page as me... :) I guess I just got to win this one
12:41 PM jym: miss0r It would be a lot more fun if you used a girl instead of plywood.
12:41 PM miss0r2: sadly I gave away my x-carve... so this will be hand made
12:42 PM miss0r2: jym: $299 stripper + 1-doller vs free plywood stripper + 300-dollars
12:42 PM miss0r2: it won't even be a good looking stripper...
12:42 PM miss0r2: (not by economy, but by choice - that would make it alot more fun)
12:42 PM jym: miss0r Again, a lot more fun...
12:43 PM miss0r2: keep in mind this is a wedding... I'm not even sure how my friends somewhat uptight wife-to-be will take the plywood one... :D
12:43 PM miss0r2: its a gamle.. :D
12:44 PM jym: miss0rIf she's gonna bitch about plywood, might as well have her bitch about the real thing instead. And isn't this something for a bachelor party more so than a wedding?
12:44 PM miss0r2: yeah...
12:45 PM miss0r2: but I don't wanna just show up with an envelope with cash in it. That will be boring AF
12:45 PM jym: miss0r and are you going to the bachelor party?
12:45 PM miss0r2: We already did that.. and somewhat to our surprise, he survived it
12:46 PM miss0r2: the american way is to do the bachelor party the day before, right? we do it a few weeks in advance
12:46 PM gloops: yeah would just hire a kissogram
12:46 PM miss0r2: so the groom has time to heal... :D
12:46 PM jym: miss0r Not necessarily the day before
12:46 PM miss0r2: I thought that was usualy the way
12:46 PM miss0r2: on the other side of the pond
12:47 PM miss0r2: ... searching for a female body template let alone a stripper template is not as easy going as I would have hoped :D
12:47 PM jym: miss0r yeah it is
12:47 PM perry_j1987: https://pastebin.com/raw/DQegUzQa this made 5.31mm hole in mdf
12:47 PM gregcnc: not sure what it looks like?
12:48 PM jym: miss0r you need one?
12:48 PM miss0r2: jym: Yes!
12:48 PM jym: miss0r gimme a few...
12:49 PM miss0r2: keep it simple: I need to look at it on the screen and copy it by hand to a peice of wood
12:50 PM jym: miss0r https://all-free-download.com/free-vector/download/vector-beauty-woman-silhouettes_147906.html
12:50 PM miss0r2: hah... that was pretty easy...
12:51 PM jym: =)
12:51 PM jym: miss0rand since it's vector, you can resize to anything
12:51 PM miss0r2: if only I had a plotter... wait.. I should choose one, and print it onto 8 or 10 seprate pages and stick it on there for a template
12:51 PM perry_j1987: now since you dont have a cnc, if you had an overhead projector and an old lcd (you can take the lcd apart back shielding and such to put on overhead projector to scale the image up on the plywood heh
12:52 PM miss0r2: Only problem is; I suck.. like realy realy suck at doing anything image related on the computer. I have no idea where to start doing this
12:52 PM gregcnc: perry_j1987 the code is valid
12:52 PM Wolf__: jym: slight direction change, have https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G7VWI2E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_coscDbM7K83QX roboclaw 2x60 on order now
12:52 PM perry_j1987: gregcnc so my machine hates me :P
12:52 PM miss0r2: hahaha.. I have a regular PC projector.. I should just shoote that photo at it and draw the outline ! Genious :D
12:53 PM gregcnc: I'm not sure how the 100mm square would be accurate and this wrong if it's a machine problem
12:53 PM perry_j1987: its what i had to do back in school heh
12:53 PM perry_j1987: i remember using overhead projector to trace out lifesized dinosaurs for projects heh
12:53 PM miss0r2: sounds simple enough... So; plenty of ways in which I can fsck it up.
12:54 PM perry_j1987: throw UV bulb in the projector and spray the plywood with photoemulsion
12:54 PM perry_j1987: then burn the image into the plywood if your not good at tracing by hand :P
12:54 PM perry_j1987: haha
12:55 PM miss0r2: I think i'll give the tracing a shot :)
12:55 PM perry_j1987: ...a really big UV light
12:55 PM perry_j1987: if wife asks why your trying to focus the sunlight down into your shop ... just smile and nod
12:55 PM miss0r2: I can't say I regret giving away my somewhat upgraded x-carve, because it took up over a square meter of floor.. but it wouldn've been nice to have now
12:56 PM miss0r2: jym: Got time to locate another file for me?
12:56 PM miss0r2: it seems all the models in there has their hands/arms close to the body.. I'm thinking i'll need to crop them off anyway, so it would be nice to make a clean crop, without having strange shapes
12:57 PM perry_j1987: gregcnc im at a loss right now on this
12:57 PM perry_j1987: verified everything i can think of
12:57 PM gregcnc: what is the value for tool diameter for this tool?
12:57 PM perry_j1987: 3.175
12:59 PM gregcnc: actual value not the name?
01:01 PM gregcnc: sorry the code is good so the value is good
01:02 PM perry_j1987: grabbing mic to measure around the thing again
01:03 PM gregcnc: the tool would have to be 0.7 undersize which would be a lot, and still wouldn't explain why the square was no oversize
01:07 PM perry_j1987: ok just mic'd a couple of the endmills
01:07 PM perry_j1987: this one is measuring 3.08
01:08 PM perry_j1987: trying another bore with size changed
01:09 PM gregcnc: it will be slightly larger, but not enough to fix the problem
01:12 PM perry_j1987: now its 5.41 instead of 5.3
01:13 PM gregcnc: have you measured backlash?
01:14 PM miss0r2: fsck it.. I just ordered a used mannequin doll.. 180cm tall on a metal stand :)
01:14 PM * miss0r2 came to realize his skills did not meet demand
01:15 PM perry_j1987: i have never done that on this 6040 gregcnc
01:15 PM CaptHindsight: I hope the two of you are very happy together
01:16 PM miss0r2: CaptHindsight: I bet she both snores and bitches less than the misses :) so yeah, I'm sure we will be
01:17 PM miss0r2: CaptHindsight: Did you see I "completed" the land rover project? https://imgur.com/a/Ni7y3OW
01:17 PM miss0r2: this is 6 images doing a start to finish :D
01:18 PM perry_j1987: i need to get a plunger dial gauge
01:18 PM perry_j1987: i only have the lever arm style
01:19 PM miss0r2: perry_j1987: You have me curious now - what is the issue you are having?
01:19 PM perry_j1987: helical boring
01:19 PM perry_j1987: holes are too small
01:19 PM perry_j1987: yet if i make a box its dead on
01:19 PM perry_j1987: you know... the kind of stuff that drives you batty
01:20 PM miss0r2: yeah. that sounds somewhat odd... if the box fits (snickering) then the code must be bad
01:21 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r2: I considered a similar project years ago but I only work with Land Cruisers now
01:21 PM perry_j1987: im looking forward to one day being past this point and actually able to use the machine heh
01:21 PM miss0r2: CaptHindsight: Land rovers get better milage than land cruisers
01:22 PM miss0r2: Mainly because the land cruisers do all the towing, when the land rover can't run on its own :D
01:23 PM CaptHindsight: i get ~13mpg city, 15mpg highway, not supercharged or turbo
01:24 PM miss0r2: what? I get ~26mpg
01:24 PM Wolf__: wow, thats close to what my 19.5k lbs truck gets for milage
01:24 PM miss0r2: with mixed highway & city driving
01:24 PM CaptHindsight: 18.09 Liters per 100 km
01:24 PM miss0r2: holy crap that thing is thirsty
01:24 PM CaptHindsight: 15.68 Liters per 100 km
01:25 PM CaptHindsight: Wolf__: gas vs diesel
01:25 PM miss0r2: 8.85 Liters per 100 km in mine
01:25 PM miss0r2: 2.25l petrol naturally aspirated
01:25 PM Wolf__: yeah still bad lol
01:26 PM CaptHindsight: i considered a diesel swap but now I figure it will be likely banned from the road before i wear it out
01:26 PM miss0r2: yeah yeah... but this is just a fun to drive, car.
01:26 PM miss0r2: I drive a 'modern' toyota station car on a daily basis
01:26 PM Wolf__: the f350 crew cab long bed got ~20mpg diesel
01:27 PM miss0r2: My wifes Skoda Ocktavia from 2006 does ~54mpg...
01:27 PM miss0r2: even with me behind the wheel
01:27 PM miss0r2: :]
01:27 PM CaptHindsight: I only have 306K miles on it
01:28 PM CaptHindsight: 492459 km
01:28 PM Wolf__: I need to delete and tune my VW TDI its only getting ~39mpg average, or I just need to use the skinny pedal less
01:28 PM CaptHindsight: i had a diesel Jetta in the 80's
01:29 PM CaptHindsight: think it got 45mpg
01:29 PM miss0r2: CaptHindsight: nice :) I only have ~500km on this engine. but the car has made it past 600k km
01:29 PM miss0r2: but to be fair, nothing much of the original car remains
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: I'll go over the body later this year
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: pull apart the diffs and check for wear
01:30 PM Wolf__: I want to do a 4BT-A swap on a early bronco but finding a motor and trans for a non-insane price isnt easy
01:31 PM CaptHindsight: https://ibin.co/2qlSmnvVpyf8.jpg front diff at ~200K miles
01:31 PM CaptHindsight: https://ibin.co/2qlTz713lvdm.jpg
01:32 PM CaptHindsight: https://ibin.co/2qlPlA3eBmaS.jpg
01:33 PM CaptHindsight: bad head gasket at 180K but rebuilt the engine https://ibin.co/2qlQjQ3iWOJ2.jpg
01:34 PM andypugh: Work Rangers are doing about 37mpg, which I thought was terrible! (The wxact same engine in a Focus give 61mpg on the same route at the same speed (75mph, 220 miles)
01:34 PM miss0r2: thats not too bad
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: i found some used trans for $100, I'll pick one up and rebuild it for a spare some day
01:35 PM andypugh: (I have to admit that I reckon 61mpg @ 75mph is pretty good)
01:35 PM CaptHindsight: thats great
01:36 PM andypugh: (UK gallons helps a bit)
01:36 PM DaViruz: nautical miles per uk gallon
01:37 PM gregcnc: "only" 20%
02:18 PM sync: huh, that is about what I get in my 10 year old 6cyl andypugh
02:18 PM miss0r2: test spline complete: https://imgur.com/a/s2XpcGB
02:19 PM miss0r2: The gear & spline shop I took it too declined the job, because they didn't have the equipment to do it...
02:19 PM miss0r2: I spend 20 minuts grinding on a 60degree disk mill and et vóila
02:19 PM andypugh: sync: What is the vehiclein question? (And how much power does it make, I am talking about a 240hp engine)
02:20 PM jthornton: miss0r2: is that an axle for your rover?
02:20 PM andypugh: miss0r2: Looks pretty good.
02:21 PM miss0r2: jthornton: Yeah, i'm making a "hybrid" axle, so I can buy the 'new' model clutch for the overdrive, and have it work with my old style one.
02:21 PM jthornton: cool
02:21 PM sync: andypugh: e90 bmw, currently at around 300hp
02:21 PM miss0r2: the new one you can only get the clutch for, but not the gears for the overdrive. the old one you can get all the gears but not the clutch
02:21 PM miss0r2: andypugh: thanks
02:22 PM andypugh: sync: in that case 61mpg is very impressive
02:22 PM sync: yes, I was very suprised
02:23 PM sync: but I can also easily shove more than 20l/100km through it
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: in the olden days we had cars with silly big engines that got maybe 3-4mpg (78.40 Liters per 100 km)
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: after tuning (and reving 8+L to >8krpm+
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: on fuels that charge pharmaceutical prices https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuels/compare-fuels?fid=40
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://vpracingfuels.com/product-category/fuels/racing-fuels/automotive/
02:35 PM CaptHindsight: ~20l pails
02:38 PM CaptHindsight: huh thats only about 2X what you pay for regular in the EU
02:48 PM Tom_L: just get avgas from the local dirt runway airport
03:06 PM gregcnc: E85 is popular at 100+ octane
03:06 PM Deejay: gn8
03:21 PM jym: gregcnc: and what $15/gal??
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: what does it cost to fully recharge a tesla at the avg home eletrci rate?
03:48 PM jym: One Billion Dollars
03:52 PM XXCoder: India is at 120F
03:52 PM XXCoder: insane
04:10 PM gloops: i think it got well over 100f in the uk last year on the odd day
04:11 PM jym: 104F in town (25 miles away) today, will get hotter later this summer
04:11 PM jym: ...well and 2500 feet lower too =)
04:12 PM jym: But... 2500 feet higher, there is 60F water in the river to play in =)
04:12 PM XXCoder: 120f is killing temperate. crazy
04:15 PM XXCoder: talking about crazy stuff
04:15 PM XXCoder: infowars guy alex jones acciently sent all lawyers involved in lawsuit child porn.
04:16 PM jym: What was the lawsuit?
04:16 PM XXCoder: sandy vicium parents sued alex for saying that shooting was fake.
04:16 PM XXCoder: "chiris actors"
04:28 PM jym: and isn't there a non dislosure?
05:53 PM Vitran: Hello! Things have been rocking with my lathe linuxcnc project.
05:59 PM Vitran: I am having some synchronization issues. I think it is from a worn out sprocket.https://i.imgur.com/CJ9jFCk.jpg
05:59 PM Vitran: Not sure how to get a new one
06:00 PM Tom_L: sprocket or timing belt?
06:00 PM jym: Vitran: aluminum?
06:00 PM Vitran: Sprocket of that size. Aluminum
06:00 PM jthornton: looks like a timing belt sprocket
06:01 PM Tom_L: yeah
06:01 PM jthornton: pretty worn out and pretty dirty
06:01 PM Tom_L: clean the crap up and maybe you'll see it better
06:01 PM jthornton: lol
06:01 PM Vitran: Yep. The main spindle has a steel sprocket. I poked my head in and looked at it. The steel one is clean
06:02 PM jym: Vitran: is there a belt too?/
06:02 PM Tom_L: sdp-si probably has or can make one
06:02 PM Vitran: And yes, I did take off the grease. I think the wearing was so strong that the diameter may be off by a fraction of a tooth or something. I tried to do some threads but it cut itself up
06:02 PM Vitran: The belt looks fine
06:02 PM jym: Vitran: can we see the belt too?
06:02 PM jym: teeth side
06:03 PM Vitran: It is back at the shop. I may try to find some in my project phot set
06:03 PM Vitran: The teeth looked clean when I looked at them earlier today
06:03 PM * jthornton is covered in sweat after unloading 40 16' smart siding
06:04 PM Tom_L: nice thunderstorm rolling thru here
06:04 PM jym: jthornton: you could have used the siding to shade you from the sun =)
06:04 PM jthornton: I did but I'm not 8" wide and 16' long
06:04 PM jym: and what is SMART siding... "Hello siding, play hot blooded
06:04 PM jthornton: Vitran: is that a motor or servo or something
06:05 PM jthornton: LP
06:05 PM jym: jthornton: Well, shit, turn sideways maybe?
06:06 PM jym: and is SMART siding wifi or bluetooth enabled?
06:06 PM Vitran: Encoder
06:07 PM jthornton: ah ok can you move the encoder shaft while the spindle is held still?
06:07 PM jthornton: and is the encoder 1 to 1 with the spindle?
06:14 PM Vitran: It is 1:1 and it does link to the spindle. I am thinking I need to loosen the encoder. The divisions on the sprocket are right, but the diameter of the sprocket is now smaller.
06:14 PM Vitran: If it is looser, the notches will link with the timing belt
06:16 PM jthornton: if it is smaller then I'd change it out, what country are you in?
06:19 PM jthornton: pcw_home: where are the driver files for the 5i20, 5i23 etc?
06:25 PM Tom_L: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=66&search=5i20
06:25 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, under support software?
06:29 PM jthornton: that might be it
06:43 PM jthornton: but I don't know if you can just copy it somewhere and hostmot2 will find it...
06:55 PM Tom_L: the bit files?
06:56 PM jthornton: the firmware files yea I think they are the bit files dunno
06:56 PM jthornton: I should look at my CHNC it has a 5i0
06:56 PM jthornton: 5i20 even
06:56 PM Tom_L: umm i don't have a linux box here to check but look in something like /lib/hm2
06:56 PM Tom_L: somewhere in that direction
06:57 PM Tom_L: i could run out to the shop and tell ya
06:57 PM jthornton: I'll have a look see in a few
06:58 PM Tom_L:  /lib/firmware/hm2/
06:58 PM jthornton: I'll wander out to the machine shop in a few, just trying to dry off in the AC
06:58 PM Tom_L: it's in your ini likely
06:58 PM Tom_L: err well maybe not.. i made a note in mine
06:59 PM jthornton: oh wait if it's on I can see from here
06:59 PM Tom_L: i put mine in a sub dir from that
06:59 PM Tom_L: ie 7i90 etc
06:59 PM jthornton: nope the pc is off on the CHNC
07:00 PM Tom_L: CONFIG="firmware=hm2/7i43-4/SVST2_4_7I47SS.BIT
07:00 PM Tom_L: for example
07:00 PM Tom_L: but i'm not using those now that it loads in the fpga
07:00 PM Tom_L: the older ones didn't do that
07:07 PM jthornton: could not find it in the limited time I had, the cpu fan broke so I shut it down
07:07 PM Tom_L: convenient
07:08 PM jthornton: yea, it's an older motherboard with a generic looking fan
07:08 PM jthornton: I'm too tired to putz with it now
07:17 PM jthornton: pcw_home: just said it is in /lib/firmware/hm2/cardname/
07:17 PM Tom_L: cardname being 7i20 i'm guessing
07:18 PM Tom_L: that's what i did anyway
07:18 PM jthornton: or 5i20 or 5i23 etc
07:18 PM Tom_L: yeah i had several there at one time
07:18 PM jthornton: time to strap on the feed bag
07:18 PM Tom_L: then the config= determines which one gets called
07:19 PM jthornton: yea
08:50 PM jym: Alright, the next time you guy want cast iron... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7nqBgklf9E
