12:25 AM Deejay: moin
05:24 AM jthornton: morning
05:24 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton
05:38 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asFagzvoc9k
05:40 AM XXCoder: added ;ead in and out eh
05:40 AM XXCoder: looks great.
05:42 AM jthornton: yea now I need to add corner radius and kerf inside or outside offset
06:16 AM Tom_L: morning
06:16 AM XXCoder: hey
06:19 AM jthornton: morning
06:19 AM Tom_L: nice screen jt
06:19 AM jthornton: thanks, I like less glitter and more function
06:22 AM XXCoder: yeah quit strightforward
06:23 AM XXCoder: no "sleath" controls, no counter-iteritive designs
06:23 AM XXCoder: you sure youre not computer scientist
06:23 AM jthornton: lol, dunno I might be
06:25 AM XXCoder: probably not. computer scientists have love for design fads
06:25 AM XXCoder: look at windows. if you never used windows before, how do you exit?
06:25 AM XXCoder: how do you find programs to run?
06:25 AM XXCoder: dumb design.
09:10 AM net|: https://i.imgur.com/0eW3Jdc.png electonic head slapper with laugh /cough sensor
01:45 PM jthornton: pcw_home: on a 7i76e I have vin in the left position and this is the list of pins I get https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/HpYyPYPsCZ/
01:45 PM jthornton: does that look right to you?
02:22 PM JT-Shop is now known as jt-shop-b
02:23 PM jt-shop-b is now known as JT-Shop
02:24 PM JT-Shop2 is now known as jt-shop-b
02:26 PM jt-shop-b is now known as JT-Shop2
02:31 PM pcw_home: jthornton: not if you expect field I/O to be working
02:32 PM jthornton: I just need the pin names, do I need to connect up the field I/O?
02:33 PM jthornton: oh I read the manual backwards I think
02:34 PM pcw_home: Yes you need field power to list the field I/O pins (the 7I76E field I/O section is exactly the same as a 7I76 field I/O section)
02:35 PM jthornton: ok so if the vin jumper is in the left side and field power is connected then no 5v needs to be connected?
02:35 PM pcw_home: also the GPIO pins will show as RX and TX
02:36 PM pcw_home: you can run the whole 7I76E from 12 or 24V power if you wish
02:38 PM pcw_home: (wire to both orange field power and TB3 pins 22,23)
02:39 PM jthornton: hmm not seeing those pins on the 7i76e
02:40 PM jthornton: the manual says TB1 is the field power connector
02:40 PM Tom_L: pcw_home, does this look ok to run a 7i90 off the parallel port? http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/tom-01Jun2019-53.png
02:41 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure i'll try unless i can figure out why the video was acting funny
02:42 PM Tom_L: that's running lbuntu with preempt-rt
02:44 PM pcw_home: That should be fine
02:44 PM Tom_L: ff was acting strange on it. the brouser would go black for no apparent reason
02:45 PM pcw_home: I've had certain vintages of FF with black screen issues
02:45 PM Tom_L: i might load up a config and see what it does
02:46 PM Tom_L: do you think an ethernet card would work on it ok?
02:46 PM Tom_L: 7i80 or whatever it is...
02:46 PM pcw_home: jthornton which pins? TB3 or sserial pins?
02:46 PM pcw_home: In my experience the D525 is marginal for Ethernet at 1 KHz (just too slow)
02:46 PM Tom_L: ok
02:47 PM jthornton: field power connector on the 7i76e
02:47 PM jthornton: oh I think I misread what you said
02:48 PM pcw_home: a D525 might be ok at 750 Hz or 500 Hz
02:48 PM pcw_home: or even 1 KHz if you set the packet timeout to say 50% of the servo period
02:48 PM jthornton: I have 5v connected to the 7i76e on P3
02:50 PM pcw_home: ok so 5V and field power is enough, just saying you can get away with the 5V if you supply 12/24V to TB3 (not P3!)
02:50 PM pcw_home: get away without the 5V I mean
02:52 PM _unreal_: Sweet my home cnc machine FINALLY got motion
02:53 PM Deejay: gn8
02:57 PM Rab: _unreal_, congrats!
02:58 PM _unreal_: just gave hobbycnc a piece of my mind. there instructions are BOTCHED. they litterally instructed me to destroy the board
02:58 PM _unreal_: I had to fix the board
02:58 PM _unreal_: by replaceing every single logic component
02:59 PM jthornton: ok thanks
04:33 PM XXCoder: _unreal_: wow. crap instructions
04:50 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, whats worse is that there are videos from the MFG to showing to do just that
04:51 PM XXCoder: did they send money back or another device?
04:51 PM _unreal_: I just informed them of my findings
04:51 PM _unreal_: I should have gone with my gut feeling but followed the instructions anyways
04:51 PM _unreal_: regardless its working now
04:52 PM _unreal_: and now I feel I need to gear the thing
04:52 PM _unreal_: its working ok but really needs gear reduction so I can get some speed
04:54 PM _unreal_: 1/8th or 1/16 micro stepping?
04:55 PM XXCoder: select one that works well, which depends really, whats you cutting?
04:55 PM XXCoder: it loses a lot of torque
04:55 PM XXCoder: gearing would add backlash also'
05:13 PM _unreal_: ranging thunder storm heading for me
05:14 PM _unreal_: XXCoder, belts with teeth are not likely to add much if any backlash
05:14 PM XXCoder: omg rain might dampen roads on wed
05:14 PM XXCoder: cool
05:15 PM _unreal_: ok just did a few tests so no matter what I do I'm going to have a lot of resistance and my only real option is to add a gear reduction. the only drive that I'm really supprised over is my Z
05:16 PM XXCoder: whats you planning to cut?
05:17 PM _unreal_: no real plans right now if anything right off the bad. would be PCB holes
05:17 PM _unreal_: bad=bat
05:17 PM _unreal_: but this thing is only stable with no lost steps at DEAD slow
05:17 PM XXCoder: so virtually no sideload to speak of
05:17 PM _unreal_: I seem to have a lot of resistance in the threaded rod
05:18 PM XXCoder: maybe have to wipe it and replace lubucation
05:18 PM XXCoder: or readjust preload if it has any
05:18 PM _unreal_: as I recall it has to do with imperfect motor alignment
05:18 PM XXCoder: just allthread? or is it erm whats those threads called?
05:18 PM XXCoder: milled threads
05:19 PM XXCoder: not ballscrews
05:19 PM _unreal_: its standard threaded rod
05:19 PM _unreal_: old photo https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipN0PJNIhsdLWV0suLwifby3I7DUetpdpmPybMvaWq6HqrDBZEGqSNDdCal_4F3BjA/photo/AF1QipMU5KGMCxyBBYh0ABBbpVSMTFSRr-MuA2S46MSQ?key=NHdNaE52MDJwQWVvaWlXREJ3bkg5MUxYMm1rNmh3
05:19 PM _unreal_: I should update with a new photo now that its moving
05:20 PM _unreal_: :/ cant do shit right now stupid thunderstorm
05:20 PM _unreal_: got to love laptops
05:20 PM XXCoder: okay thats standard allthreads
05:20 PM XXCoder: you can buy ballscrews really cheap nowdays, or ACME (finally remembered) threads
05:20 PM _unreal_: I know but I'd have to redo the machine
05:20 PM XXCoder: true
05:21 PM _unreal_: what do you think of the design?
05:21 PM XXCoder: looks like fairly standard cnc router design
05:21 PM _unreal_: if you zoom in
05:21 PM _unreal_: its all individual parts hand crafted
05:21 PM XXCoder: already did heh
05:21 PM XXCoder: yeah noticed
05:21 PM _unreal_: I only had small chucks of G10
05:22 PM XXCoder: may need some lube stuff
05:22 PM _unreal_: its all ball bearings
05:22 PM XXCoder: not sure what would work best. lathinium? etc
05:22 PM XXCoder: for screw
05:22 PM _unreal_: I have white lithium on the thread
05:24 PM _unreal_: I could put more
05:25 PM _unreal_: and now its pouring outside
05:26 PM XXCoder: fun
05:26 PM _unreal_: south florida
05:33 PM XXCoder: washington state here
05:33 PM XXCoder: we are over 3000 miles apart lol
05:33 PM Tom_L: complete opposites
05:37 PM _unreal_: yep
05:37 PM _unreal_: almost polor
05:37 PM _unreal_: polar
05:42 PM XXCoder: not that far lol
05:43 PM JT-Shop: and here we are in the middle
05:44 PM XXCoder: hey middle guy
05:44 PM JT-Shop: hay
05:45 PM _unreal_: I spent most of my life in the winter states. I moved to florida about 5 years ago
05:45 PM XXCoder: tired of snow eh
05:45 PM XXCoder: should have moevd to west washington. rarely snows here lol
05:46 PM XXCoder: but same time I'd not suggest it now. increasing worse forest fires each summer now.
05:47 PM * jthornton was born on Kodiak Island a long long time ago
05:47 PM _unreal_: long long time ago? on a continent far far away?
05:48 PM XXCoder: lol
05:48 PM * _unreal_ suddenly hears the star wars opening credits seine
05:49 PM jthornton: lol
05:50 PM jthornton: XXCoder: only 45 days till I sign up for my SS benefits, so far I'm liking being on Medicare
05:51 PM XXCoder: ss really flipping sucks
05:51 PM jthornton: why
05:51 PM XXCoder: if you dont change its fine, but if you try to LEAVE...
05:51 PM XXCoder: it took me 12 months of trying for them to finally stop sending me ss
05:52 PM jthornton: dang
05:52 PM XXCoder: and they got angry and told me i owed them 1200 bucks
05:52 PM XXCoder: well DUH
05:52 PM XXCoder: I was smart however so I never touched those money
05:52 PM XXCoder: so it took me 3 attempts to finally pay it
05:52 PM XXCoder: they kept losing paperwork
05:52 PM jthornton: yea I guess that really depends on the person you end up dealing with
05:53 PM XXCoder: sadly wa tend to have good goverment system
05:53 PM XXCoder: ss is.. special
05:53 PM jthornton: the lady that I've seen twice so far has been super nice and super helpful
05:53 PM XXCoder: oh every worker i met to discuess issue was nice also
05:54 PM jthornton: it took me 2 times to get Kroger to stop billing blue cross after I switched
05:55 PM jthornton: I'd get a text you have 3 scripts ready estimated cost $78 lol, no I have $0 co-pay on 4 of them and $2 on the fifth one
05:56 PM XXCoder: geez
05:56 PM XXCoder: usa health system is so broken
06:02 PM _unreal_: ya I got years to go
06:03 PM XXCoder: if some area of law is messy, good chance its to benefit ricg.
06:03 PM XXCoder: rich.
06:04 PM * jthornton hopes he has years to go...
