02:24 AM Loetmichel: mornin'
02:36 AM Loetmichel: Damn. Just have a secure hdd on my desk that has to be shielded... plugged it in, unlocked it... started a hdd test tool to estabilsh a "baseline"... disk selflocks... $me unlocked it again (thinking that was a fluke) , started HDD-test-tool...*locked*... seems intentional when any lowlevel commands are recieved. now i wonder how you format those in case the it needs a differend FS or so?!?
02:36 AM XXCoder: is there protect bit or something?
02:36 AM XXCoder: or switch on it lol
02:40 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: it has a pinpad
02:54 AM XXCoder: pinpad dunno heh
05:08 AM Jin^eLD: hi
05:12 AM jthornton: morning
05:12 AM XXCoder: hey
05:18 AM Tom_L: morning
05:18 AM XXCoder: hey
05:23 AM perry_j1987: morning all
05:23 AM XXCoder: hey
05:35 AM perry_j1987: project for this morning is to setup m6 script for mach3 on this 6040 so i can do manual tool changes and have it touch off the new tools
05:35 AM XXCoder: nice
05:36 AM Tom_L: mach3 doesn't do tool changes?
05:36 AM Tom_L: oh.. for touch off
05:36 AM perry_j1987: ya just an er20 collet spindle on this thing
06:09 AM jthornton: mach3?
06:29 AM perry_j1987: this 6040 has some usb controller in it
06:38 AM jthornton: yea I can convert from Gregorian date to Julian date in C
06:39 AM XXCoder: awesome
06:39 AM jthornton: that was the first step to get the solar events
06:41 AM jthornton: now to do that as a function in C
06:41 AM XXCoder: only thing I was wondering
06:41 AM XXCoder: do you define angles in order to get sunrise/set?
06:43 AM jthornton: https://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/SunApprox.php
06:44 AM jthornton: that's the one I'm trying now, the one I did yesterday was flawed
06:44 AM Jin^eLD: https://git.digitalstrom.org/dss11-websetup/dss11-websetup/blob/master/pages/js/solar/solar_computer.js
06:44 AM Jin^eLD: thats what we use for sunrise/sunset calculation, seems to work fine
06:44 AM XXCoder: ah ascension is sunrise lol fancy word
06:44 AM Jin^eLD: can surely be converted to C or any other language
06:45 AM jthornton: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/kH6dKnrCRF/
06:45 AM jthornton: or I messed up the calculation from that page
06:46 AM jthornton: yuck js
06:47 AM jthornton: be easier to just do it in C than try and convert js I think
06:47 AM XXCoder: too tired to analyze code lol
07:40 AM Loetmichel: GNAH! Phonecalls you dont want to have at work: Wife just called 2 hours ago: "toilet floor where you changed a faucet on saturday is 1" under water, even the hallway parquet flooring is wet!"... so i drove home way over the speed limit, closed the shutoffs, drained the water with a shopvac, dismantled the faucet: missing a simple o-ring at one of the flex hoses... :-( (must have overlooked
07:40 AM Loetmichel: that when mouting)... got a new ring, assembled it again, pressure test: holds water now... aaand back to work, this time with two oak parquet strips that are now "bananas" that i somehow have to flatten again before guing back onto the floor :-(
07:51 AM perry_j1987: ouch
08:36 AM Deejay: hi
09:42 AM perry_j1987: test 2 printing up for a vise stop
01:05 PM perry_j1987: worked!
01:16 PM perry_j1987: so parallels at harbor freight have lifetime warranty. they will replace them even if you drill into them they told me heh
01:36 PM Tom_L: have you tried collecting on that warranty?
01:37 PM perry_j1987: not yet
01:37 PM perry_j1987: they've been pretty good at this store here though in the past
01:38 PM jdh: they don't care
01:41 PM perry_j1987: today is turning out to be a cleaning / organizing day heh
01:43 PM perry_j1987: i found new parts of my workbench I havnt seen in long while
01:47 PM perry_j1987: quickly need to find things to fill this space! :P
01:52 PM Deejay: gn8
02:20 PM * jthornton just got back from a 175 mile ride for a butterscotch waffle cone
02:27 PM perry_j1987: what did you ride?
02:28 PM jthornton: my BlueWing
02:30 PM perry_j1987: fun
02:30 PM jthornton: yea, we have not got to ride much this year with all the rain we've had
02:32 PM perry_j1987: throw on the tyvek painters suit and ride :)
02:33 PM jthornton: we have rain suits but for joy rides we don't ride in the rain, if we're on a trip somewhere that different
03:03 PM XXCoder: afternoon
03:05 PM perry_j1987: hows it going XXCoder
03:05 PM XXCoder: dunno just woke up heh
03:05 PM perry_j1987: lol
03:05 PM perry_j1987: i was just wondering thread milling
03:05 PM XXCoder: second shift work
03:06 PM XXCoder: though today is holiday day.
03:06 PM perry_j1987: require a very rigid machine to work without snapping them?
03:06 PM XXCoder: good question
03:07 PM XXCoder: probably as rigid as machine that can mill alum
03:07 PM XXCoder: if milling alum that is
03:10 PM XXCoder: i only work with bigger machines and tiny wood only machine, no middle ground lol
03:10 PM XXCoder: besides regular endmills should experence more sideload than milling thread tool anyway
03:13 PM perry_j1987: i havnt bought any thread mills yet to try
03:13 PM perry_j1987: big pucker factor with their cost lol
03:13 PM perry_j1987: and my history with small endmills on this 6040 sof ar lol
03:14 PM XXCoder: one guy here is making thread cam
03:15 PM XXCoder: which is pretty awesome
03:15 PM perry_j1987: thread cam?
03:15 PM XXCoder: yep exactly what it says on tin
03:15 PM perry_j1987: i havnt played with anything else but fusion 360 yet
03:15 PM XXCoder: it creates gcode for milling certain tool mill for certain bore size for thread type so on
03:54 PM JT-Shop: yea my mill touch gui can generate thread milling G code
03:55 PM XXCoder: knew was you but my brain refused to recall clearly lol
03:55 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, you tested it yet?
04:10 PM JT-Shop: no with a thread mill, I need to order some single point thread mills
04:11 PM JT-Shop: I actually have a metric internal thread I need to make but don't have the tool to do that on the lathe
05:02 PM Tom_L: finally packed up my old sherline and got rid of the enclosure. at least now i have a little room on the bench to work
05:03 PM Tom_L: took the steppers off it and boxed them up with a data sheet so i don't forget what they are
05:59 PM perry_j1987: what sherline
06:13 PM Tom_L: my old one
06:16 PM perry_j1987: mill or lathe i mean
06:16 PM Tom_L: mill
07:47 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/torroidal-power-supplies/unregulated-1440w-72vdc20a-120vac-or-230vac/ anyone seen similar in stock in the USA?
07:48 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/torroidal-power-supplies/unregulated-525-w-38vdc15a-120vac-or-230vac/
07:48 PM TurBoss: buy spare parts
07:49 PM TurBoss: just requires a big rectifier
07:50 PM CaptHindsight: TurBoss: is your recommendation that I build them?
07:50 PM TurBoss: if you could and don't manage to find
07:51 PM CaptHindsight: that is a given
07:51 PM TurBoss: https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2018/10/Power-supply-connection-detail.pdf
07:51 PM TurBoss: also works for 120V
07:53 PM CaptHindsight: I'm using them at 120VACV and 220Vac
07:55 PM CaptHindsight: 60Hz and 50Hz respectively
08:07 PM Tom_L: do they give dimensions?
08:08 PM Tom_L: yeah in the manual...
08:22 PM gregcnc: the stepper/logic supply in Emco machines is just a big toroid rectifier and cap
08:32 PM gregcnc: I was looking at a transformer that was in a compressor I bought. 1000USD for a 0.5kVA!!
08:38 PM CaptHindsight: I was in a hurry a few weeks ago and misread a product description, I paid the same price for 50mg of a chemical as what ~1Kg usually sells for
08:39 PM gregcnc: worst thing is probably the time to wait to get another kg?
08:39 PM CaptHindsight: so about 20,000 X
08:39 PM CaptHindsight: was only $50 but still
08:40 PM CaptHindsight: I just didn't see the m in front of the g
08:40 PM gregcnc: some ultra lab grade or just someone making a ton of money on the product?
08:40 PM CaptHindsight: i was thinking 50g on short notice i was willing to pay the premium
08:40 PM CaptHindsight: ton of money
08:41 PM gregcnc: too bad it's not rainwater you're after
08:41 PM CaptHindsight: paid the extra $30 for fedex as well :)
08:42 PM gregcnc: doh!
08:42 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, would have been happier of i realized I blew $90 on something like booze
08:42 PM CaptHindsight: of/if
08:43 PM CaptHindsight: or even fell out of my pocket
08:44 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: no more rain until Wed.
08:45 PM CaptHindsight: then it's humidity, bugs and mold until November
08:45 PM XXCoder: losing freecad once again lol
08:45 PM gregcnc: i'm tired of the rain already
08:45 PM XXCoder: *linuxcnc
08:45 PM XXCoder: I miss rain
08:46 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: I'll be happy to send you a bag full
08:46 PM XXCoder: lol
08:47 PM XXCoder: also lol: "Make sure you made backups, you tested Linux Mint 19 'Tara' in live mode and you performed your favorite superstitious tricks before proceeding."
08:47 PM CaptHindsight: going to install LCNC on Devuan with preempt_rt
08:48 PM XXCoder: i hate how linuxcnc requires weird trick to install on modern linux
08:48 PM XXCoder: for run test not for actual machine operation
08:48 PM CaptHindsight: anyone care about systemD?
08:48 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: what trick?
08:49 PM XXCoder: briefly changing system to earlier version to force install old version of python so linuxcnc can be installed
08:49 PM XXCoder: systemmd is huge and messy but i dont really care
08:50 PM CaptHindsight: old Python?
08:50 PM XXCoder: hold on let me find
08:50 PM CaptHindsight: some dependency check?
08:52 PM XXCoder: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/29
08:52 PM XXCoder: my nov 30 2018 comment
08:53 PM XXCoder: basically change to jeese to install libboost-python
08:53 PM XXCoder: then revert
08:53 PM jym: ... to the dark side
08:54 PM XXCoder: hey we have cookies.
08:54 PM * jym HIGH FIVES XXCoder
08:55 PM jym: XXCoder: Got Milk?
08:55 PM XXCoder: sorry
08:55 PM jym: Got Tequilia?
08:55 PM XXCoder: no alchol here
08:56 PM jym: Got dirty water and stale bread?
08:57 PM XXCoder: former I can make, latter you mind waiting a day or 2?
08:57 PM CaptHindsight: I've lost track of who is still developing
08:57 PM XXCoder: on linuxcnc?
08:57 PM XXCoder: so far I know of is jt and one other
08:58 PM XXCoder: ah andy
08:58 PM CaptHindsight: has jepler left LCNC all together?
08:58 PM CaptHindsight: i read his post a few months back about stepping aside from being the gatekeeper
08:58 PM CaptHindsight: but now it sounds like he's gone on to other projects
08:59 PM XXCoder: i dont know, but i do know lcnc needs more devs
08:59 PM XXCoder: what with python 2.7 retiring evenually
08:59 PM XXCoder: or whatever version
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: did you have the issue you posted above?
09:29 PM XXCoder: yeah that was trick I used to install linuxcnc on this pc
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: it makes no sense since that version of libboost-python is in Stretch
09:29 PM XXCoder: may not be in mint
09:29 PM XXCoder: mines xfce mint
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: but you were installing on Ubuntu 18 or similar?
09:30 PM CaptHindsight: mint uses Debian repos?
09:30 PM XXCoder: yeah
09:30 PM CaptHindsight: "Linux Mint Debian Edition"
09:31 PM CaptHindsight: I can't keep the names straight
09:31 PM XXCoder: me either
09:32 PM CaptHindsight: dangeours work around if you forget to uninstall the extra repos
09:32 PM XXCoder: indeed
09:32 PM CaptHindsight: dangerous even
09:35 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.antekinc.com/1500w/ OK so this is where Automation technologies gets their torroidial power supplies
09:36 PM CaptHindsight: toroidal
09:37 PM CaptHindsight: much wider selection
09:38 PM Tom_L: seb has been rather quiet lately too
09:38 PM CaptHindsight: he got a new job
09:38 PM Tom_L: ahh
09:38 PM CaptHindsight: probably writing fancy CNC codes
09:39 PM XXCoder: linuxcnc isnt sexy
09:39 PM Tom_L: fear of levee breaks here now
09:39 PM XXCoder: need to pout on lipstick get more developers
09:39 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: you in a flood plane?
09:39 PM Tom_L: no
09:40 PM Tom_L: there's a flood canal around the town that gets it but it and the river are both getting near full
09:41 PM XXCoder: man send some of that water into air above mountains here
09:41 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/Flood/Flood_canal2.jpg
09:41 PM XXCoder: we have undersized snow packs here.
09:41 PM Tom_L: that was teh other day
09:41 PM Tom_L: and it keeps raining
09:41 PM Tom_L: generally that is dry
09:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/Flood/Flood_canal1.jpg
09:43 PM Tom_L: from the distant bridge
09:44 PM XXCoder: well youre experencing washington infinity rain basically
09:44 PM XXCoder: now send it back
09:44 PM Tom_L: do you miss it?
09:45 PM XXCoder: yep lol
09:57 PM CaptHindsight: I'm seeing Chinaco power supplies for far less price than what US distis have in stock
09:57 PM CaptHindsight: even when I derate by 50%
09:58 PM CaptHindsight: derate the power output
10:00 PM CaptHindsight: even when I add Fedex or DHL shipping
10:59 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: remember me talking about linuxcnc reinstall?
10:59 PM XXCoder: apparently its still installed
11:00 PM XXCoder: might mean new xfce mint 19 has that package.
11:02 PM XXCoder: ahh its in auto remove list but not removed
