01:32 AM Deejay: moin
03:51 AM pink_vampire: hi
03:51 AM pink_vampire: hi
04:15 AM XXCoder: yo
04:17 AM pink_vampire: i got old typewriter
04:28 AM XXCoder: yeah? whats plan for it
04:43 AM Tom_L: morning
04:49 AM XXCoder: morn
05:05 AM jthornton: morning
05:06 AM XXCoder: ing
05:06 AM XXCoder: hows things
05:07 AM jthornton: not bad, weather should be nice for the next week or so
05:08 AM XXCoder: here its fairly except 2 days rain
05:09 AM XXCoder: my new ac is doing an awesome job of keeping my room controlled in terms of humidity and heat
05:09 AM XXCoder: 46%, 75f precisely
05:11 AM jthornton: nice
05:11 AM jthornton: you will sleep much better this summer
05:12 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:12 AM jthornton: and your less likely to rust when the humidity is below 50%
05:12 AM XXCoder: had tpo use towel to cover hoses though
05:12 AM XXCoder: too much klight lol
05:13 AM XXCoder: i need to cover it with another towel or something later, its still slight leak
05:13 AM XXCoder: leak of light
05:13 AM jthornton: you like it totally dark to sleep?
05:13 AM XXCoder: i have to too, as it gets light at say 7 am and I start sleep at 5 am usuallt
05:13 AM jthornton: what are the hoses for?
05:14 AM XXCoder: AC intake and outlet hot air
05:17 AM jthornton: ah they go out the window?
05:17 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:17 AM XXCoder: and in since its dual hose
05:18 AM XXCoder: its best type as it doesnt push room to negative pressure with single hose
05:18 AM XXCoder: negative pressure means it sucks hot air from other places and outsides
05:18 AM jthornton: yea the one I had only had a single hose
05:18 AM XXCoder: its expensive
05:18 AM XXCoder: its bit ricious expensive but im tired of having very bad sleeping each summer for years
05:20 AM XXCoder: 450 bucks jeez
05:21 AM jthornton: $450 ain't bad for a good summer of sleep
05:21 AM XXCoder: i bought a water drain pump for it, $50, but ac has it built in
05:21 AM XXCoder: so dunno what to do with it.
05:24 AM jthornton: bring it back
05:24 AM XXCoder: guess so
05:29 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: I'm trying to do a full rebuild
05:29 AM XXCoder: ahh cool :)
05:29 AM XXCoder: maching missing/broken parts?
05:30 AM pink_vampire: seams like nothing us broken
05:30 AM XXCoder: nice
05:32 AM pink_vampire: but there is a problem with the back space key, that make the escapement mechanism to jam
05:33 AM pink_vampire: I try to go to several places but other than just oil the machine "as is" non if them was willing to do full rebuild
05:34 AM pink_vampire: I want to clean each part, and buff it abut, and then assemble it
05:34 AM XXCoder: nice
06:01 AM R2E4: There's a problem with the forums. Goin reallllly reallllly slow. Going to hit a brick wall soon.
06:01 AM XXCoder: pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2bZIZGEO5Q jthornton check it out
06:01 AM XXCoder: negative is well it looks like waving dilios.
06:02 AM R2E4: lol
06:02 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf-gps4r2L0
06:24 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apel2BgdFw8
06:25 AM jthornton: for a screen capture it's not too clear... dunno why
06:25 AM XXCoder: nice!
06:41 AM R2E4: Hey JT
06:41 AM jthornton: hey
06:41 AM R2E4: If I order 12 3.7 din rail mounts, can you ship, then ship the standoffs later when you receive them?
06:42 AM R2E4: Or I can just get them locally
06:42 AM jthornton: do you have a source for M3 standoffs locally?
06:42 AM jthornton: shipping to you is a bit expensive IIRC
06:44 AM R2E4: yeah, I blew it, should have ordered them with the last ordedr.
06:48 AM R2E4: I have a source locally
06:54 AM jthornton: my standoffs are on the way to me, I got shipping notification the other day
06:56 AM R2E4: I need to get another set of boards for another machine, This time I got an ethernet mesa board. I am kinda leary about it, as I only ever used 5i25's
06:56 AM R2E4: They have never failed me.
06:56 AM R2E4: maybe I'll just get a 5i25 in just in case...lol
06:57 AM jthornton: which ethernet board are you thinking about?
06:57 AM R2E4: I juust ordered the 7i92m from you with a 7i77
06:58 AM jthornton: ah yea, I packed up a bunch of orders yesterday
06:59 AM R2E4: IT was already shipped, let me check the tracking
07:00 AM jthornton: yea I shipped that yesterday I think
07:00 AM R2E4: Its in Chicago
07:00 AM R2E4: USPS is slow....lol
07:00 AM jthornton: lol
07:01 AM R2E4: There still on horses
07:01 AM jthornton: lol
07:02 AM jthornton: UPS guy was here the other day and he has a new truck and they just put new tires on it and they are recaps and now the truck wanders all over the road
07:02 AM Loetmichel: R2E4: nope, if they were the pony express they would be pretty fast
07:02 AM Loetmichel: whats a recap?
07:02 AM Loetmichel: new threads on old carcass?
07:03 AM jthornton: take a old tire and put new rubber on it
07:03 AM R2E4: UPS charges me 60.00 customs and brokerage fees doesnt matter from where. Thats besides shipping
07:03 AM jthornton: yea they are nuts when you go international
07:03 AM R2E4: I once bought a 50.00 piece and I ended up paying over 150
07:04 AM * jthornton heads for the shower to start his chicken day
07:15 AM Elmo40: dont let UPS do the brokerage. Find a broker.
07:15 AM Loetmichel: Elmo40: germany is even worse
07:15 AM Elmo40: or do it yourself... it is a simple process, for the most part.
07:16 AM Elmo40: why is germany worse?
07:16 AM Loetmichel: there was a company that acted from the FRA airport customs offices that got certain chiniese orgin packages and precessed them "for you" and then sent you a 3 digit invoice for that.
07:17 AM Loetmichel: luckily there were court rulings in short order that that consideres "unsolicited work" and hence isnt a legit invoice. you didnt have to pay it
07:17 AM Loetmichel: but many didnt know
07:19 AM Loetmichel: dont know if they gave up or still in operation though, i havent ordered stuff from aliexpress or similar in quite a while
07:48 AM Elmo40: that is sad... corruption sets society backwards.
07:49 AM Elmo40: humans will never know a good world until all this crap is gone.
01:26 PM gregcnc: shop clock? https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxw-9rxARMf/
01:26 PM jthornton: pretty cool
01:39 PM jesseg: lol that's clever
02:48 PM net|: can thin metal be bonded together strongly with a hydraulic press and point pressure ?
02:49 PM net|: about the same size as a spot weld
02:50 PM gregcnc: rivetless riveting
03:03 PM FinboySlick: net|: I know of some people who do it with very thin metal and ultrasonic welding.
03:03 PM FinboySlick: net|: It's not a garage setup though.
03:04 PM FinboySlick: Admitedly, theirs is more like some form of 3D printing. Let me fish out a youtube link...
03:05 PM FinboySlick: net|: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvM1zE7Zfh0
03:22 PM andypugh: Is anyone free to try a test install with a new Wheezy / 2.7 ISO file?
03:23 PM andypugh: http://www.linuxcnc.org/iso/linuxcnc-2.7.14-wheezy.iso
03:25 PM XXCoder: hey. not free oh well heh
03:29 PM perry_j1987: hows everybody doing
03:29 PM andypugh: Reasonably well
03:29 PM XXCoder: ok
03:29 PM andypugh: As I have a 4 day weekend starting now
03:29 PM XXCoder: 4 day also here, if i dont work on friday
03:29 PM perry_j1987: 4 day weekend? you run the machine into something and break some tooling get sent home? :)
03:30 PM XXCoder: no I normally work 4 day a week, 40 hours
03:30 PM XXCoder: holiday on monday
03:30 PM andypugh: Not me, if I crash my work I am in real trouble, I test cars.
03:30 PM XXCoder: but sometimes I want overtime, which means friday add around 6 to 10 hours work
03:32 PM perry_j1987: very nice
03:32 PM perry_j1987: i was looking for second opinion. HSS parting tool on stainless 316 causing flaring up the edges of where its parting.. not sure whats causing that
03:33 PM andypugh: Maybe it it rubbing on the side of the tool?
03:34 PM perry_j1987: swept it in with indicator that was my first thought
03:34 PM andypugh: I haven’t used an HSS tool for years.
03:34 PM andypugh: (For parting)
03:34 PM andypugh: I just bolted a band saw to the lathe :-)
03:34 PM XXCoder: heh on lathe im very little more than operator :)
03:35 PM andypugh: I am not entirely joking about the band-saw : http://email.villagepress.com/pub/HSM/20190508/20190508.html
03:37 PM andypugh: perry_j1987: You want this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123769238256
03:38 PM andypugh: (or maybe not that one, exactly, as it’s a righ-angle left handed mount)
03:40 PM andypugh: I machined a blank multifix holder to accept one of these for my lathe: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372449502423
03:47 PM perry_j1987: i have carbide insert grooving tools but they shatter often heh
03:47 PM andypugh: I thought that was just me :-)
03:47 PM andypugh: But I buy them on eBay so I am £1 out of pocket rather than £15
03:56 PM perry_j1987: heh
03:57 PM gregcnc: buying then on ebay could be part of the problem, unless you're sure you're getting the real deal
04:05 PM hightower2: the real mccoy
04:17 PM Deejay: gn8
04:20 PM andypugh: They come in P H Horn packaging.
04:22 PM gregcnc: Does PH horn produce in China? You can get plenty of junk name brand fakes or rejects
04:22 PM andypugh: No idea
04:22 PM gregcnc: i buy off ebay too, but not the 10USD boxes
04:25 PM perry_j1987: wha.. the 10 dollar boxes of 10 inserts are not bullet proof ? :)
04:29 PM jthornton: wow andypugh is on the cover of home shop machinist
04:29 PM * jthornton goes back to chicken coop construction
04:33 PM andypugh: jthornton: http://email.villagepress.com/pub/MW/20160615/20160615.html too
04:46 PM net|: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg__B6Ca3jc
04:53 PM Tom_L: damn, andypugh is famous
04:54 PM andypugh: net|: I saw that a whole ago, it’s almost worth trying
05:03 PM Tom_L: andypugh did you get any takers on the iso test?
05:03 PM andypugh: Not that I noticed
05:04 PM Tom_L: does it require a dvd or cd?
05:12 PM andypugh: USB drive should work
05:12 PM Tom_L: not sure i can boot from usb on that mb
05:13 PM Tom_L: err, well i can try on the test pc i suppose
05:13 PM andypugh: Follw instructions here, basically: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-started/getting-linuxcnc.html
05:13 PM andypugh: I think that booting in Live mode (no install) is _probably_ a good enough test.
05:17 PM Tom_L: do i need to make it bootable after i copy it?
05:17 PM Tom_L: gawd, it's been a long time...
05:24 PM andypugh: If you copy using dd then it will just work, in theory
05:24 PM Tom_L: i'm doing this on windows
05:26 PM Tom_L: ok we'll try this..
