01:59 AM Deejay: moin
03:43 AM PL7icnc: Happy sunday to all
03:43 AM PL7icnc: Mr gloops
04:29 AM bobnormal: is there a recommended hardware list?
04:30 AM XXCoder: nah it can vary too much
04:30 AM XXCoder: can have cheap route or MESA or whatever
04:30 AM XXCoder: there is some basics though
04:30 AM XXCoder: like not using laptop for linuxcnc
04:32 AM bobnormal: @xxcoder: thanks. i am looking for something to drill, tap, and cut sheet stock HDPE. would prefer automatic tool changing. anything like that tested and working?
04:32 AM XXCoder: im not sure about HDPE, but i know nylon requires a whole lot of cooling for tools to cut and not melt plastic
04:32 AM XXCoder: is it same for hdpe?
04:33 AM bobnormal: not really, HDPE is considered easy to mill and high speeds are fine.
04:33 AM XXCoder: so basically any machine that has atc would work
04:33 AM XXCoder: well volume of workspace depending anyway
04:34 AM bobnormal: which hardware drivers support ATC? how do i know they'll work with commercial hardware before buying?
04:34 AM XXCoder: good question, my machine for home is far below that fancy level :) and ironically work is all commerical and large machines
04:35 AM XXCoder: designing a atc machine is not what I know. there is plenty others that have that knowledge though
04:35 AM XXCoder: from what your user case it seems a cnc router would work perfect
04:36 AM XXCoder: add side row of tool holders and you got atc machine that can change tools
04:36 AM XXCoder: linuxcnc can support such a system
04:36 AM XXCoder: add in some good computer with MESA good drivers
04:36 AM XXCoder: you got a nice machine
04:36 AM XXCoder: youre looking for basically for production correct?
04:37 AM bobnormal: so you just configure in tool positions within the normal work envelope and there is some sort of software module that can provide the required pneumatic control for a pluggable tool changer on the standard work head for most machines is that right?
04:37 AM XXCoder: ie lots parts
04:38 AM XXCoder: unfortunately configuring linuxcnc for tool changing is not what I know.
04:38 AM bobnormal: yes we send out 100s-1000s of USD of jobs per week right now, so budget to buy decent gear. i would just provide to linuxcnc it and contribute instead of supporting all the windows crap on the market. software background, quite naive hardware wise.
04:38 AM XXCoder: mine is basic very cheap machine using BOB 3 tb6600s and cheap steppers lol small router
04:38 AM bobnormal: its hard to tell what to look at based on the website
04:39 AM bobnormal: we build custom multi-axis motion systems with shared envelopes, handover etc. already, just not familiar with commercial machining systems' interfaces.
04:39 AM bobnormal: guess i will have to just see whats out there and maybe retrofit linuxcnc over the top of windows once we get something working
04:40 AM XXCoder: ANYTHING mach3 can be ran by linuxcnc
04:40 AM XXCoder: mach3 is 109% chance illegal copy anyway lol
04:40 AM bobnormal: ok that's a good tip, i will check them out
04:41 AM bobnormal: mach4?
04:41 AM XXCoder: likely yes but not confirmed knowledge for me lol
04:42 AM bobnormal: cheers!
04:42 AM bobnormal: will report how we go
05:13 AM jthornton: morning
06:29 AM Tom_L: morning
06:31 AM XXCoder: heys
06:31 AM XXCoder: jt know a good source of plastic tubes? lol
06:32 AM jthornton: McMaster Carr
06:32 AM XXCoder: oh yeah! forgot. thanks
06:32 AM jthornton: 49°F
06:32 AM XXCoder: 63f peak today
06:33 AM XXCoder: ugh hot hell coming lol
06:34 AM XXCoder: $23 per foot heh glass tube is actuallu cheaper
06:35 AM XXCoder: only one kind of tube tho still browsing
06:38 AM XXCoder: 9/16 id approx
06:38 AM XXCoder: 1 9/16 that us
06:44 AM XXCoder: its very much metric :( 45mm od and 41mm id would be best
06:44 AM XXCoder: inside id is quite close, can be 39mm to 42mm around that. outside is bit more flexiable since i dont really worry about preserving ip67
06:45 AM Tom_L: http://www.lustercraft.com/ would probably have it
06:45 AM Tom_L: i get all my plastic scraps from them
06:46 AM Tom_L: but it's local so i don't pay $$$hipping
06:47 AM XXCoder: looking. thanks
06:47 AM Tom_L: no online store that i'm aware of
06:48 AM XXCoder: i found one, its bit expensivbe
06:48 AM Tom_L: i just walk in the back and pick out what i want
06:49 AM Tom_L: theirs would likely be 1/8" wall
06:49 AM XXCoder: lucky bagh lol
06:49 AM XXCoder: https://www.theplasticshop.co.uk/acrylic-tube-extruded-clear-45mm-od-to-60mm-od.html
06:50 AM Tom_L: i made a bunch of protein skimmers for saltwater tanks with their tubing once
06:53 AM Tom_L: i've got a couple leftover tubes i could measure later but i think they're bigger than 1 9/16
06:53 AM Tom_L: got some 3 & 4" :)
06:54 AM XXCoder: nice
06:54 AM XXCoder: you can make algae bloom farms wit those tubes.
06:55 AM tiwake: should I get a fujifilm X-T30, a panasonic GX85, or a panasonic GX9?
06:58 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/skimmer/skimmer.jpg
07:01 AM XXCoder: interesting
07:01 AM XXCoder: it keeps tanks clean or?
07:01 AM Tom_L: yeah it helps
07:02 AM XXCoder: interesting
07:03 AM Tom_L: tiwake, nikon d3500
07:04 AM tiwake: Tom_L: I'd rather not have a full-frame camera
07:05 AM Tom_L: then i use my cell phone
07:05 AM tiwake: ...thats horrible
07:05 AM Tom_L: one or the other
07:05 AM tiwake: lol, why?
07:05 AM Tom_L: handy and it takes good pics
07:06 AM Tom_L: s9
07:06 AM Tom_L: the s4 on up were decent
07:06 AM Tom_L: most of the pics i post here are from them
07:07 AM Tom_L: my nikon is older
07:07 AM Tom_L: d80 iirc
07:08 AM tiwake: the X-T3 and the X-T30 are the same camera, just the 30 is smaller and costs $600 less
07:08 AM tiwake: oh, weather resistant too
07:09 AM tiwake: (the X-T3 is, the X-T30 is not)
09:19 AM PL7icnc: hi all
09:36 AM PL7icnc: im off
10:49 AM Tom_L: PL7icnc... good talk..
10:50 AM Tom_L: oil changed, tires rotated, at shop getting nail removed...
10:51 AM Tom_L: yard mowed....
10:51 AM Tom_L: let r rain now!!
10:52 AM Tom_L: supposed to rain all week
12:13 PM jthornton: I need to try and mow my yards
12:42 PM Elmo40: i've done it twice already!
01:00 PM Jymmm: jthornton: Mow your yards... two gallons of gasoline and a road flare, works every time
01:07 PM Tom_L: might even be enough to do several neighbors
01:09 PM JT-Shop2: you couldn't start a fire here with gas everythings too wet
01:09 PM JT-Shop2: speaking of grass I think I'll get my swim fins on and try to mow
01:09 PM Tom_L: ready for some R & R here
01:10 PM Jymmm: JT-Shop2: Tell me about it, tried burning some leaves this morning and barely got the surface
01:10 PM Tom_L: nail cost me a new tire.. i swear they don't know how to fix them nowdays
01:12 PM Jymmm: Tom_L: sidewall?
01:12 PM Tom_L: no
01:12 PM Tom_L: but it was too 'crooked' for them to fix
01:12 PM Tom_L: i call BS
01:13 PM Tom_L: i probably could have driven it that way til they wore out but i noticed it when i was rotating them
01:13 PM Tom_L: was holding air ok
01:15 PM jym: what ever happened to plug and patch?!
01:15 PM Tom_L: kids just don't know how to do that now
01:16 PM jym: Tom_L: where did you take it to?
01:16 PM Tom_L: sams
01:16 PM Tom_L: i got them there
01:16 PM jym: Ah
01:16 PM Tom_L: they did patch one
01:16 PM Tom_L: i had 2 with nails
01:20 PM jym: do the replace under warranty after three patches?
01:20 PM Tom_L: dunno
01:23 PM Tom_L: this was 2 separate tires
01:35 PM jym: gotchaa
01:36 PM jym: Ok, I have a 10 round bbq grill. Trying to figure out how to make it into a campfire grill with low profile foldable legs somehoww
01:36 PM jym: 10 inch*
01:42 PM Tom_L: pretty tiny bbq
01:43 PM jym: Yeah, kinda perfect size to put over a campfire though
01:43 PM jym: just need to figure out legs of some sort
01:46 PM jym: This is interesting... https://i0.wp.com/www.ruggedbackpacker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/campfire-grill.jpg?fit=640%2C426&ssl=1
01:47 PM jym: I was sorta thinking like this, but my grill is round... https://www.firewood-for-life.com/images/skitched-20130612-090811.jpg
01:48 PM Tom_L: that's what i was thinking
01:48 PM Tom_L: you could still bend the legs on the grate
01:49 PM jym: I kinda like the single pole idea, than I cna adjust the height to the fire
01:51 PM Tom_L: you adjust that by the amount of gasoline you throw on it
01:51 PM jym: Nah, gas is up to $4/gal now
01:53 PM jym: MY bad, it's a 15" round grill I have
01:54 PM jym: Tom_L: What I don't get is how does the folding legs prevent from folding out too much??
01:54 PM jym: like in that previosu pic
01:55 PM Tom_L: they touch the grate on the backside
01:55 PM Tom_L: you could bent a hook in them if you needed to
01:55 PM Tom_L: that's why the left one has an extra grate wire
01:56 PM jym: Oh I see it now, damn
01:58 PM jym: Hmmm, how easy is it to weld chrom plated steel wire?
01:58 PM Tom_L: you burn thru the chrome pretty easy i'd say
02:01 PM jym: What I'm thinking is making two squares using steel rod, with a cross bar about an inch down. Then place the grill on top of them. Not sure how stable that would be or not
02:09 PM jym: Tom_L: something sorta like this... https://i.imgur.com/tBVGiBZ.jpg
02:09 PM Tom_L: https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/field-stream-swivel-camp-grill-15fnsufsswvlgrllxcac/15fnsufsswvlgrllxcac?camp=CSE:DSG_92700043481800683_pla_pla-507703760868&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzt2IzoqF4gIVk5JbCh0GMgQlEAQYBSABEgImbPD_BwE
02:10 PM Tom_L: don't overcomplicate it
02:10 PM Tom_L: make a L hook to grab the grate and attach it to a sliding Tee on a post
02:10 PM Tom_L: the L hook comes off the grate
02:10 PM Tom_L: ---
02:10 PM Tom_L: |
02:10 PM Tom_L: -
02:11 PM Tom_L: make it from strong enough round to hold your wiener
02:12 PM Tom_L: fit in your backpack
02:14 PM jym: Tom_L: https://i.imgur.com/kEWUsNu.png
02:15 PM Tom_L: need viagra?
02:15 PM jym: LMAO
02:15 PM jym: too hawt to handle is all
02:15 PM Tom_L: with that i'm gone..
02:16 PM jym: see ya and thanks for the ideas

05:22 PM net|: cool someone did it https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3610134
05:28 PM gregcnc: what is that?
05:28 PM Tom_L: a belt drive for something
05:29 PM Tom_L: must be flexible plastic
05:29 PM Tom_L: at least on the belt
05:29 PM gregcnc: that's clear, but it sounds like part of somethign cool google has no idea bout
05:32 PM Tom_L: not clear what it's for
05:33 PM gregcnc: ARD3 - Autonomous Robotic Demonstrator for Deep Drilling
05:33 PM jym: R2D2
05:34 PM jym: Tom_L: One idea... http://www.trailerlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Perfect-Campfire-Grill-1.jpg
