02:01 AM gloops: i get the rtai error on launch every time, cant see any reason or symptoms that anything is wrong with latency otherwise
02:09 AM pink_vampire: gloops: screenshot
02:09 AM gloops: not on this PC
02:11 AM gloops: i think when i went into this before, if your step rate cannot meet the feed rate you will get a *joint following error ?
02:20 AM a-u: hey gloops - same here -- a RTAI error on launch, but no other obvious RT issues that I can find a way to spot.
02:21 AM a-u: And that error has followed across versions and PC hardware.
02:21 AM a-u: I can make it go away, but only by setting the base so high that speed is too limited.
02:22 AM gloops: well i just ignore it, my machine is pretty slow anyway 5m/m but nothing seems affected it runs fine
02:26 AM fdarling: there is also some confusion surround FF1 and OUTPUT_SCALE and such
02:27 AM fdarling: supposedly the PID units should all be in "real world" machine units and scaled to the analog output at the last step
02:33 AM a-u: Also yes to the step rate (possibly from base being too slow) not keeping up with the target feed rate triggers the joint following error. Those are awkward or terrifying depending on speed as all joints then try to instantly stop.
02:48 AM Deejay: moin
04:09 AM XXCoder: hard boiled eggs + taco sauce = surpising yummy
05:08 AM jthornton: morning
05:08 AM XXCoder: hey
05:08 AM XXCoder: another record busting heat today
05:08 AM XXCoder: 77f jeez. old record was 69
05:08 AM Tom_L: morning
05:10 AM Tom_L: about average here 40° Hi 59
05:10 AM XXCoder: should be cooler tomorrow yay 67f
05:10 AM jthornton: yea normal here too
05:10 AM XXCoder: then rest of weekl 50sf
05:10 AM XXCoder: record since 1940s snow then record hot jeez
05:11 AM Tom_L: is 12L14 just mild steel?
05:13 AM jthornton: no, it has a higher lead content for easier machining
05:13 AM jthornton: but yes otherwise mild steel
05:13 AM Tom_L: ok
05:13 AM XXCoder: yummy
05:13 AM Tom_L: probably not the best for hardening
05:14 AM jthornton: no, not enough carbon to heat treat
05:15 AM Tom_L: not very weldable either so it says
05:19 AM Tom_L: is it similar to 1018?
05:19 AM jthornton: you getting any rain Tom_L
05:19 AM Tom_L: a little yesterday afternoon
05:19 AM jthornton: yea just with a higher lead content
05:20 AM Tom_L: i didn't want a whole bar but i think that's all i can get locally
05:20 AM Tom_L: fastenal has 3' bars of 1018
05:20 AM jthornton: you get it from the scrap yard?
05:20 AM Tom_L: the scrap is mostly aluminum
05:20 AM Tom_L: i've never shopped from this other place
05:20 AM Tom_L: new
05:20 AM jthornton: watch the price on steel at fastenal it's by the INCH
05:21 AM Tom_L: i figured
05:21 AM Tom_L: it's about 78 a stick new
05:21 AM jthornton: better off at online metals or similar
05:21 AM Tom_L: cut in half 88
05:21 AM jthornton: what size are you needing
05:21 AM Tom_L: but there's still shipping
05:21 AM Tom_L: 1"
05:21 AM jthornton: 1" square?
05:22 AM Tom_L: round
05:22 AM jthornton: how long?
05:22 AM Tom_L: just a piece :)
05:22 AM Tom_L: couple feet maybe
05:22 AM XXCoder: square eh 1"x1"x.0005" ;)
05:23 AM jthornton: you looking for low carbon or alloy?
05:23 AM Tom_L: just something easy to machine
05:24 AM Tom_L: probably 99% of what we ran was aluminum or ss
05:24 AM jthornton: mcmaster carr 12L14 is $15 for a foot
05:24 AM jthornton: $35 for 3'
05:24 AM jthornton: https://www.mcmaster.com/standard-steel-rods
05:24 AM Tom_L: same as fastenal
05:25 AM jthornton: your fastenal carries 12L14?
05:25 AM Tom_L: i'm not sure but i can call em after while
05:25 AM jthornton: I bet they don't carry that
05:26 AM Tom_L: probably not
05:26 AM Tom_L: but we do alot of machining around here so it's a possibility
05:28 AM Tom_L: there's 3 of em within a stone's throw here
05:28 AM jthornton: https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0968003?r=~%7Ccategoryl1:%22600930%20Raw%20Materials%22%7C~%20~%7Ccategoryl2:%22600932%20Bar%20Stock%22%7C~%20~%7Ccategoryl3:%22600937%20Round%20Bar%20Stock%22%7C~%20~%7Csattr01:%5E1%22$%7C~%20~%7Csattr03:%5ESteel$%7C~
05:28 AM jthornton: says ships from manufacturer but the price is good at $68 for 12'
05:28 AM Tom_L: huh
05:28 AM Tom_L: cheaper than the other local store
05:30 AM Tom_L: looks like it ships out of texas
05:30 AM XXCoder: is it cheaper, shipped?
05:31 AM pink_vampire: https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=7591&step=4&showunits=inches&id=285&top_cat=0
05:31 AM Tom_L: and i can pick up at branch
05:31 AM Tom_L: or deliver
05:31 AM pink_vampire: $10
05:33 AM Tom_L: i saw that
05:33 AM Tom_L: but you're paying 112 for 12' which is nearly 2x more
05:34 AM Tom_L: 117
05:37 AM pink_vampire: i thought it was 60 for 12" not 12'
05:38 AM Tom_L: 12' is standard bar length
05:44 AM Tom_L: $20 to ship a $18 2'bar from online
05:44 AM Tom_L: may as well get a whole stick of it
07:24 AM Elmo40: may as well
07:25 AM Elmo40: no local suppliers?
07:43 AM Tom_L: i think so
09:49 AM a-u: Follow-up question to the earlier question about metal sources: Any suggestions for a vendor for steel wire?
09:51 AM a-u: I'm looking for modest amounts of 13 and 16 SWG basic steel wire.
09:58 AM SpeedEvil: mig wire at 1.2mm, for example, 15kg, 30 quid free ship.
09:58 AM SpeedEvil: however, I think this is about the thinnest this goes.
09:58 AM SpeedEvil: ^thickest
10:00 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tension-Straining-Line-Wire-Galvanised-Steel-100m-x-2-5mm-Chain-Link-Fencing/401489196720 also is not too unreasonable.
10:26 AM a-u: thanks SE - I need to go a bit bigger - about 1.6 and 2.3 mm. I found regional steel companies that will sell about what I want, but thought I'd check if anyone had ideas. Seems none of the area steel dealers do wire.
10:27 AM SpeedEvil: Well - the fencewire is 2.5.
10:27 AM SpeedEvil: Also you get it thicker
10:30 AM a-u: True - there is some fence wire that comes close, but last round of checking those were sensibly high tensile and galvanized. I was looking for non-galvanized and not as stiff. But I'll look at those again too.
10:31 AM SpeedEvil: Some of the stuff can be annealed.
10:37 AM roycroft: i'm not sure i'd try to anneal galvanized wire
10:37 AM roycroft: that could be dangerous
10:38 AM roycroft: unless you enjoy having welder's fever
10:38 AM SpeedEvil: Outside, or with proper ventilation, or mechanically, or chemically, yes.
10:51 AM jymmm: bailing wire?
10:53 AM a-u: Yes, thos are options but if/as this project scales up, likely choosing a more-ready wire would be a better approach for me. However, maybe I'd want to consider a galvanized finish too.
10:54 AM SpeedEvil: If it scales up I imagine metal suppliers that might not normally stock wire would behappy to order some for you
10:57 AM jymmm: That "wire" sounds like what is used to make welded fencing
10:57 AM jymmm: big ass (forklift sized) spools
11:10 AM a-u: It is handy to have a forklift, but it seems I can get 50 / 100 lb coils which is the next step for testing. Yes, I'm looking for the wire that is ready for welding.
12:41 PM Loetmichel: *ahh, nice. just had the tyres on the BMW changed. from 255/60R15 from about 2000 to 205/65R15 DOT 16... and *surprise* now the car drives a lot smoother. quite a bit reassuring considering i have to drive 500++km tomorrow. MAN were those old tyres done for. No threads left, cracks in the side walls and stone hard rubber. :-)
01:42 PM pink_vampire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBPv0C_WnBQ
02:04 PM Papagno: Hi at all. i have a problem with actual master with external_offset . in sim/axis/external_offset/jwp_z.ini if coomand g0 x100, the x axis run at 114mm/min , but max_velocity in ini file is =2 (120mm/min). this because parameter the exsternal offset : OFFSET_AV_RATIO = 0.05 . if change this , rapid g0 change value , not respect max_velocity value, maxvelocity value is scaled on OFFSET_AV_RATIO = 0.05. i thing not normal this
02:04 PM Papagno: . Some idea
02:05 PM jymmm: pink_vampire: You gonna be a Buffer girl?
02:06 PM pink_vampire: maybe, I need a benchtop grinder first
02:08 PM Loetmichel: jymmm: GNHIHI
02:08 PM Loetmichel: had to google that term
02:08 PM Loetmichel: wasnt disappointed ;)
02:09 PM Deejay: hmm, me too
02:23 PM jymmm: Loetmichel: no clue what you are babbling about =) GNHIHI????
02:27 PM Tom_L: it's loet speak
02:32 PM gloops: Got Numerous Hopeless Ideas Havent I ?
02:32 PM Tom_L: must be a euro thing.
02:34 PM jymmm: Tom_L: I agree
02:34 PM Deejay: gnhihi is some kind of laughing sound
02:37 PM gloops: some gn - hee hee?
02:38 PM gloops: Goodness Knows Hee (Hi) Hee
02:38 PM Tom_L: seems my 2.8 issue may be pointing to the wrong .py version of remap
02:38 PM Tom_L: 2.7 & 2.8 aparently are different
02:39 PM Tom_L: further tests will verify this
02:39 PM gloops: ive never had any issue with it, from installing to running, it is an upgrade to 2.7 on wheezy though
02:40 PM Tom_L: i may have my ini pointing to a local copy of it instead of /usr/...
02:41 PM Tom_L: i copied some files local when i was working on my orient code
02:44 PM Loetmichel: jymmm: i was giggling
02:45 PM Loetmichel: about the "buffer girl" term
02:45 PM Loetmichel: google for yourself what urban dictionary has to say about it
02:45 PM Loetmichel: hence my giggling.
02:46 PM Loetmichel: i do know what you meant though. (or not?)
02:48 PM SpeedEvil: urbandictionary only has about five definitions though.
03:09 PM jymmm: Loetmichel: Ah, you had to see the video pink_vampire had posted above my comment
03:09 PM Loetmichel: jymmm: i had
03:09 PM Loetmichel: thats why i said "i know what you meant"
03:09 PM Loetmichel: i was just laughing about the definition UD gave me
03:10 PM jymmm: Loetmichel: I dont dare look at what UD says =)
03:13 PM Loetmichel: jymmm: maybe better that way. plausible deniability and so on ;)
03:13 PM jymmm: Loetmichel: exactly
03:29 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest15966
03:38 PM XXCoder: sometimes it amazes me. one deaf black guy was brutually beaten till he was knocked out in flornia state in 2016. What is he doing now? running to be part of city council, in order to change police.
04:18 PM a-u: The guy running for city council - is he the famous Florida Man?
04:19 PM a-u: Just a bad attempt at humor. FL has some issues.
04:21 PM jymmm: XXCoder: So they now beat all deaf people, not just the black ones... EQUALITY FOR ALL
04:57 PM gloops: Great news from @Ford! They are investing nearly $1 BILLION in Flat Rock, Michigan for auto production
04:57 PM gloops: cnc jobs maybe
05:03 PM roycroft: probably fake news
05:07 PM gloops: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-20/ford-invests-900-million-to-build-electric-vehicles-in-michigan
05:07 PM gloops: investing in electric vehicles
05:09 PM _unreal_: any one here who compiles kernels now and then?
05:09 PM Elmo40: wha?? they want to build in Michigan?
05:11 PM Loetmichel: gloops: still better than GM. they already HAD a pretty good vehicle in 1996... they destroyed all but three of them after production ended in 1999
05:14 PM Deejay: gn8
05:19 PM jymmm: Haha... the #1 British food is Chicken Tikki Masala
05:20 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
07:10 PM Tom_L: ran into a local guy that knew about linuxcnc. was kinda surprised really...
07:12 PM pink_vampire: lol
07:20 PM SpeedEvil: :)
08:39 PM Elmo40: Tom_L, it has been around for a LONG time.
09:03 PM Tom_L: yeah i remember it's infancy
09:06 PM Elmo40: when this was #emc ;-)
09:07 PM Tom_L: possibly before #emc was
10:10 PM pink_vampire: is there a way to add "Home all" button?
10:13 PM Tom_L: yes
10:13 PM pink_vampire: how?
10:13 PM Tom_L: look at my config
10:13 PM pink_vampire: thanks
10:13 PM Tom_L: you want to home z first
10:14 PM Tom_L: or you'll hit something
10:14 PM Tom_L: oh you mean the initial home?
10:14 PM pink_vampire: i want to jog all the axis > hit home all
10:14 PM Tom_L: or send it to g54 home?
10:15 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/screenshot.png
10:15 PM pink_vampire: instead of click "Home Axis" 4 times, i just want one button that will home all of them
10:15 PM Tom_L: the zero axis button sends mine to G54 x y z 0 after i've set the offset
10:15 PM Tom_L: set that up in the ini
10:15 PM Tom_L: the home sequence
10:16 PM pink_vampire: not the touch off
10:16 PM Tom_L: you're talking about on machine power up?
10:16 PM Tom_L: that's in the ini
10:16 PM pink_vampire: ones sec i will take a pic
10:17 PM Tom_L: HOME_SEQUENCE = 1
10:17 PM Tom_L: sets the order they home in
10:17 PM Tom_L: if x & y are 1 they will home together
10:17 PM Tom_L: i set z at 0
10:17 PM Tom_L: so it homes first
10:18 PM Tom_L: HOME_SEQUENCE = 0
10:18 PM Tom_L: for z
10:18 PM pink_vampire: i don't have home switches
10:18 PM Tom_L: x & y are 1
10:18 PM Tom_L: not sure then
10:18 PM Tom_L: add them?
10:19 PM Tom_L: or read about HOME_SEQUENCE and soft limits
10:19 PM Tom_L: i've always used limit switches
10:20 PM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/9BPeMGF.png i'm talking about those homing buttons (there is one for each axis)
10:20 PM Tom_L: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/config/ini-homing.html
10:21 PM pink_vampire: what the "home axis" button send?
10:21 PM Tom_L: i hit the same button and all mine home in the sequence specified in the ini with HOME_SEQUENCE
10:21 PM Tom_L: set it in each [axis] section
10:22 PM pink_vampire: but you need home switches for that?
10:23 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure. try it
10:23 PM pink_vampire: i know about axis.0.homing
10:25 PM Tom_L: HOME_SEARCH_VEL A value of zero causes LinuxCNC to assume that there is no home switch; the search stage of homing is skipped.
10:25 PM pink_vampire: but i there some way to push homing for "any" axis?
10:25 PM Tom_L: read the homing section
10:25 PM pink_vampire: let me see
10:43 PM pink_vampire: Tom_L: i got to the point that i have the "home all" but how to i make it with the individual home buttons?
10:43 PM Tom_L: i thought 'home all' was what you wanted
10:44 PM Elmo40: any laser guys? seen this before?
10:44 PM Elmo40: https://github.com/LaserWeb/LaserWeb4-Binaries/
10:45 PM pink_vampire: Elmo40: interesting
10:46 PM Elmo40: looks very functional
