02:20 AM Deejay: moin
02:34 AM fragalot: mornin'
03:34 AM fragalot: well... you know you're getting older when cars are starting to get classed as "oldtimers" even though they're younger than you.
03:34 AM XXCoder: lol
03:34 AM XXCoder: worse when cars is now "classic"
03:35 AM XXCoder: none for me yet tho lol
04:15 AM gloops: even older when you see motorbikes that were around as a kid in a museum lol
04:20 AM fragalot: gloops: or the ones you used to ride
04:22 AM gloops: my first bike on the road was a honda 90 cub, not quite a museum piece yet but they are slowly rising in value
04:23 AM fragalot: those are what XXCoder refers to as 'classic'
04:23 AM fragalot: everyone and their mum had one
04:23 AM fragalot: :)
04:25 AM gloops: yeah they were everywhere, the not so common monkey bike must be getting pretty rare now though
04:26 AM gloops: https://i.pinimg.com/236x/81/13/62/811362ac7d3ac66aeab21b6269c6fe2e--honda-dax-minibike.jpg
04:27 AM gloops: hard to tell if that is a vintage, they remade them
04:27 AM fragalot: there were a LOT of knock-off dax's when I was a student
04:27 AM fragalot: most of the real ones had issues with overheating. the knock-offs seemed to run more reliably funnily enough
04:28 AM fragalot: when going places we often had to wait for the fancy ones to cool down so the piston would shrink down enough again to run :D
04:29 AM gloops: the originals were the same engine as the honda c50-90, pretty bulletproof - a lot of bikes in those days needed a 'cooler' occasionally though
04:30 AM fragalot: which the dax did not have
04:30 AM gloops: a lot of the brit bikes had no oil pump to speak of, the crank just used to bath in the oil and flick some up the bore lol
04:31 AM fragalot: a recently deceased friend of mine had one of the very first harleys in his little home museum
04:31 AM fragalot: beautifully complicated machine
04:31 AM fragalot: you needed all 4 limbs working in harmony just to keep the thing running :D
04:33 AM gloops: yes a weekend touring must have been crippling
04:37 AM gloops: well back to the tidying
04:37 AM fragalot: have fun
05:20 AM jthornton: morning
05:31 AM Deejay: hey there
05:51 AM jthornton: dang 3 nights in a row someone laid a soft shell egg from the roost
06:06 AM SpeedEvil: jthornton: probably a chicken.
06:06 AM * SpeedEvil passes jthornton a red sharpie.
06:15 AM Tom_L: morning
06:19 AM jthornton: morning
06:21 AM Tom_L: 20°
06:30 AM jthornton: 27°
06:56 AM veek: what is he scraping with at https://youtu.be/U2jNeObHnZY?t=239
07:15 AM gloops: just using a flat block with emery cloth so far as i can see
07:17 AM gloops: he isnt trying to straighten or flatten anything, just cleaning it up
07:17 AM veek: it looks like some kind of file.. it's spade shaped with a handle in the middle
07:18 AM veek: i was wondering how he got the rust off..
07:18 AM gloops: ill have another look, didnt see that
07:19 AM veek: sandpaper and scotchbrite on the lathe
07:19 AM gloops: oh that, nah just a general scraper for paint and stuff
07:20 AM gloops: not to be confused with a bearing scraper https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ur5JNz9LHyM/TboJQsd2cwI/AAAAAAAAAE8/6SmhLpPjKcI/s1600/SDC10978.JPG
07:22 AM veek: oh
07:22 AM veek: thanks yeah
07:24 AM veek: ah i knew it.. sandblasting!
07:43 AM Net|-: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/USB-56K-External-Dial-Up-Voice-V-90-V-92-Fax-Data-Modem-Window-7-Win-8-XP-Linux/171976871446 cool it says for linux too
10:01 AM Net|-: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1133193 neat
10:42 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horizontal-milling-machine/264107427072?
10:42 AM gloops: £50 and youre in the milling business
10:59 AM The_Ball: Hi guys, I need some extra information in the tool table and was hoping I could use one of the A-W columns for this, however I can't find a G-code to update the tool table for these columns
10:59 AM The_Ball: G10 can update radius etc
11:00 AM The_Ball: I'm trying to make some macros for a tool setter
11:08 AM JT-Shop2: a-w are axes just like xyz
11:08 AM JT-Shop2: so one of the G10's can set those
11:42 AM The_Ball: JT-Shop2, I can't make it work, I think perhaps I would have to enable these axis in the configuration
11:43 AM The_Ball: G10 L10 P20 Z0 works, but U0 gives "Bad character 'u' used
11:50 AM JT-Shop: I assume you would need a U axis defined to use it
11:52 AM JT-Shop: what are you trying to do?
12:17 PM _unreal_: just finished spraying the other half of my splash mold to build the real mold
12:18 PM _unreal_: GOD I cant wait to finish this thing
12:18 PM _unreal_: does any one in here use RPI's for anything?
12:18 PM _unreal_: more so rpi/LCD's?
12:18 PM jthornton: aye
12:19 PM jthornton: I use some digole lcd's on the rpi
04:29 PM Deejay: gn8
05:44 PM veek: wrt motors - can't we use pulleys to get the required speed on a bench grinder.. for eg: for a 7" wheel at 3500rpm and a 1400rpm motor.. at 1/2hp.. you'd need a 17.5" pulley.. which is kind of ginormous.. however could it be done.. that's 1282"/s.. is that fast or slow for wood/assuming a wooden wheel
05:45 PM veek: 6414 feet/minute
05:46 PM veek: steel has a sfm of 60-100 SFM
05:47 PM flyback: https://youtu.be/gaWGyOwNIC0?t=231
05:47 PM flyback: just remember
05:47 PM flyback: the angels are full of forrests
05:58 PM veek: how do we estimate how much centrifugal forces materials can tolerate?
06:12 PM veek: cool idea centrifugal casting.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2FIhnm84X4
06:22 PM roycroft: jewelers have been doing centrifugal casting for ages - it is the standard method of casting rings, etc.
06:42 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMSjrab6U_k
06:44 PM Tom_L: yet another sam production :)
06:45 PM skunkworks: High quality at that!
06:46 PM skunkworks: (I forgot to show the computer...)
07:45 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: because you need a lot less riser and "sprout" when you have heightend "gravity" thru the rotational forces
07:46 PM Loetmichel: which is good when you are casting material that costs $30k per gram ;)
07:46 PM Loetmichel: +m
08:15 PM jdh: casting HP inkjet ink?
08:18 PM skunkworks: an even awesomer-er video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBOkSvaNMEc
08:41 PM Loetmichel: jdh: gold
08:42 PM Loetmichel: hp inkjet ink is only about $10 per gram
08:42 PM Loetmichel: maybe even less depending on the cartridge size
08:50 PM jdh: your gold price is several orders of magnitude off
08:51 PM jdh: or is that k a currency, not a kilo.
08:56 PM Loetmichel: 3 orders of magnitude actually
08:56 PM Loetmichel: the $30000 i had in mind were for the kg, not the gram
