02:48 AM Deejay: hehe, yeah
02:48 AM Deejay: seen that :)
02:49 AM XXCoder: funny and unnesscary censor
05:22 AM jthornton: merry xmax
05:22 AM jthornton: xmas
05:23 AM XXCoder: merry mad max
05:23 AM XXCoder: ;)
05:23 AM XXCoder: merry xmas
05:40 AM jthornton: I need to find a xmas chicken
05:42 AM jthornton: hmmm amazon says my bearings were delivered yesterday...
05:48 AM XXCoder: weird
05:49 AM XXCoder: if ts one of those xmas gift thiefs out there, they would have plenty of bearings
05:50 AM jthornton: I checked the mail around sunset but nothing
05:52 AM XXCoder: i remember one strange story on postal
05:52 AM XXCoder: guy was tired and didn't want to work and just relax and smoke pot
05:53 AM XXCoder: so he took a break and took a hit
05:53 AM XXCoder: thats when he had an idea, why not mail the mail?
05:53 AM XXCoder: so he went to box and dumped all mail in it, left for home
05:53 AM XXCoder: he was caught and fired
05:58 AM jthornton: yea I got motioneye working again now to setup my cameras
06:11 AM SpeedEvil: :)
06:12 AM XXCoder: nice
06:34 AM weenerdog: howdy
06:34 AM XXCoder: yo
06:38 AM weenerdog: merry christmas!!! (and happy jimmy buffett's birthday) :)
06:38 AM XXCoder: merry xmas
07:00 AM Net|: Net|> https://cdn.thingiverse.com/renders/a7/eb/2b/ce/13/ab63dcbc46bc880e97071c9447a74629_preview_featured.JPG just gotta hook up arduino , hotglue limit switch and servo to front door
07:00 AM Net|: <Net|> on ebay cheepest bulk burner is 8 - 19 thousand dollars
07:02 AM SpeedEvil: Are you selling dodgy movie copies in a street market?
07:02 AM SpeedEvil: Or are you gonna be the next AoL?
07:02 AM XXCoder: or music cds
07:03 AM weenerdog: two words - puerno
07:03 AM weenerdog: puerno drives all innovation
07:16 AM _unreal_: Net|, you would have been better off with one of those lego arms and a suction cup for rotating disks'
07:16 AM _unreal_: disk's
07:17 AM _unreal_: or use a cone pick up with an expander to grab disk's from the middle
07:22 AM Tom_L: morning
07:22 AM Tom_L: Merry Christmas
07:22 AM XXCoder: merry xmas
07:22 AM _unreal_: merry christmass
07:22 AM _unreal_: not really doing christmas till my daughter gets back from maine with her mother :(
07:34 AM XXCoder: oh yeah
07:34 AM XXCoder: jthornton: forgot this lol
07:34 AM XXCoder: apparently work is replacing old fadal computer controls and spindle
07:34 AM XXCoder: apparently cheaper than newer one
07:35 AM XXCoder: HOWEVER I will try ask if I can have old ones. lots of controls on panel!
07:35 AM jthornton: nice
07:35 AM XXCoder: perfect for making my own. I would carefully remove electrics in case someone wants. old crt and all
07:37 AM XXCoder: that is if I remember to ask lol
07:41 AM weenerdog: day 7 without cigarettes!!! :)
07:41 AM * weenerdog gives a big ol' Ric Flair "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
07:42 AM XXCoder: awesome :)
07:43 AM weenerdog: yaaaaa man. getting a bunch easier now. markedly.
07:43 AM weenerdog: first couple days are shit city
07:44 AM XXCoder: heard hardest part is habits
07:44 AM XXCoder: like before always smoke after eat or whatever
07:45 AM weenerdog: the hardest part is not microwaving the dog or telling people "fuck you!" on the phone randomly
07:56 AM Net|: _unreal i would like to try with just a rubber wheel on the bottom too
07:57 AM XXCoder: weenerdog: keep going
08:25 AM * jthornton quit so long ago he forgot how much fun it was
09:28 AM JT-Shop: yea the bearings for the lathe showed up last night
09:29 AM zeeshan: spindle bearings? :D
09:30 AM JT-Shop: aye and the reeves bearing
09:31 AM zeeshan: document the install
09:31 AM zeeshan: ive never replaced spindle bearings before on a cnc lathe
09:32 AM zeeshan: could learn a thing or two!
09:39 AM JT-Shop2: they are for my Jet 14" x 42" wood lathe
09:55 AM weenerdog: i've never turned anything on a wood lathe. i think i could probably launch a chisel into my head with one lol
10:00 AM Tom_L: it's about leverage
10:01 AM Tom_L: keep the toolpost to work distance much less than the toolpost to operator distance
10:02 AM Tom_L: or toolrest in the case of a wood lathe
10:27 AM * JT-Shop2 thinks the guy that sold me the lathe could not figure out how to change the reeves pulleys
10:39 AM Roguish: JT, my big Series II BP has a reeves pulley, and a 4 HP motor.
10:41 AM JT-Shop2: my series 1 has reeves pulley too I forgot the hp maybe 2 or so
10:42 AM JT-Shop2: I had to rebuild the bp soon after purchasing it
10:45 AM Roguish: JT, what debian did you just install?
10:46 AM JT-Shop2: 9
10:46 AM Roguish: and desktop?
10:46 AM JT-Shop2: mate
10:46 AM Tom_L: of course :)
10:47 AM Roguish: im going to set up a VM to try and learn a bit of Python. and maybe QT
10:47 AM JT-Shop2: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DrvJfv9YrY/
10:47 AM JT-Shop2: my new chicken door uses pyqt4 and python3
10:48 AM JT-Shop2: I even used pyqt4 on the non-gui chicken door to get event timers
10:48 AM Tom_L: hi tech chickens
10:48 AM JT-Shop2: the new ones will have a peck screen
10:48 AM Tom_L: soon to come an egg conveyor?
10:49 AM JT-Shop2: just have to glue a rubber thing on their beak so they can use the touch screen
10:49 AM Roguish: you are the Master Chicken Guy
10:49 AM JT-Shop2: I think maybe an egg sorting robot maybe
10:49 AM JT-Shop2: or a robot chicken poop scoop
10:50 AM JT-Shop2: I've learned a lot about pyqt in the process
10:58 AM Deejay: re
11:00 AM Net|: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KUCdmzAE1M
11:06 AM fragalot: happy holidays misfits :-)
11:11 AM ziper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BOL_RbrogM
11:12 AM ziper: Net|, aww, thanks, (Your Name)!
11:26 AM Net|: reminds me of mr T
01:04 PM JT-Shop2: geez if I knew how quiet the lathe should have ran I might not have bought it...
01:04 PM JT-Shop2: runs sweet now
01:07 PM fragalot: JT-Shop2: replaced the bearings?
01:07 PM * fragalot got a miniature strandbeest for christmas
01:08 PM fragalot: clever little thing.. and i'm surprised how smoothly it moves given that it's just a bunch of injection molded plastic clipped together
01:12 PM JT-Shop2: yea and the reeves pulley on the spindle
01:12 PM JT-Shop2: the guy had all the parts but I figure he didn't know how to get it apart and back together
01:13 PM fragalot: might be better that he didn't try then :-)
01:13 PM JT-Shop2: yea easier to sell a noisy running lathe and a box of lathe parts
01:18 PM Rab: fragalot, is it motorized?
01:18 PM fragalot: Rab: wind powered just like "the real thing"
01:18 PM Rab: fragalot, do you blow on it or what?
01:18 PM fragalot: yeah
01:18 PM fragalot: but even from 2m away you can get it going quite easily
01:19 PM Rab: Cool, I'm looking for a little strandbeest kit for my brother.
01:20 PM fragalot: go for it. they're neat :-)
01:21 PM Rab: Do you know which one you have?
01:21 PM fragalot: I'll see if I can dig the packaging out of the trash >.>
01:21 PM fragalot: brb
01:22 PM fragalot: not very helpful i'm afraid
01:23 PM Rab: No worries, thanks for checking!
01:23 PM fragalot: it was a clear plastic bag, with a paper label at the top saying "Build your own Strandbeest. dutch: STRAND = beach BEEST = animal. Based on the work of Dutch kitentic artist Theo Jansen.
01:23 PM fragalot: no maker, no distributor, nothing.
01:25 PM Rab: Does it look like this one? https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0756BD1B7
01:25 PM fragalot: that one doesn't appear to have the little rubber feet mine did, but yes, it looks exactly like that.
01:25 PM fragalot: I think they're probably all made by the same manufacturer
01:25 PM Rab: sweet
01:26 PM Rab: ( like a bunny size )
01:26 PM fragalot: yea :-)
03:32 PM _unreal_: That as exciting... power loss for 10 seconds
03:35 PM Deejay: gn8
03:36 PM _unreal_: only 4:30 pm here
03:46 PM gloops: lol
04:02 PM JT-Shop2: well after watching 15 videos I can now burnish the wood and catch the skew chisel very well... still can't do a planing cut well
04:04 PM gloops: new wood carving chisels JT-Shop2 ?
04:06 PM JT-Shop2: old cheap chisels lol
04:10 PM gloops: the old ones are usually best, unless you pay a fortune for new ones
04:12 PM JT-Shop2: most are $20 tools that came with the lathe, the only good one I have is a large roughing gouge
04:13 PM gloops: oh lathe chisels
04:14 PM gloops: the skew is probably the one to master
04:47 PM jthornton: yea it's tough when you don't have a clue what your doing wrong lol
07:07 PM TurBoss: hello
07:07 PM TurBoss: I'm trying to load a module that I have on another machine to this new one
07:07 PM TurBoss: http://dpaste.com/3RXNYJ4
07:08 PM TurBoss: but it gives me this error
07:08 PM TurBoss: error: emcStatusBuffer invalid err=3
07:08 PM TurBoss: when I poll stat
07:09 PM TurBoss: running machine is 2.8 buildbot master
07:09 PM TurBoss: new is debian stretch
07:09 PM TurBoss: 2.8 too
07:38 PM TurBoss: ok fixed
07:38 PM TurBoss: lcnc not running
08:00 PM Net|: https://netpipe.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/1600x1400-IMG_3900-1024x683.jpg
08:05 PM ziper: converting an old CNC machine is as easy getting some stepper drivers, a contoller, and a PC right?
08:24 PM XXCoder: jthornton: glad your package arrived!
08:26 PM XXCoder: ziper: theres lot of factors
09:07 PM ziper: XXCoder, in what ways could it be more complicated?
09:08 PM XXCoder: like what machine it is, some is quite large
09:08 PM XXCoder: old but small machine chances is you could pretty easily do it
09:08 PM ziper: small
09:09 PM ziper: the one I am looking at is an isel lathe, meant for educational purposes
09:10 PM XXCoder: https://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/docviewer/aucdoc/DSC00021.JPG?auc=2039355&docid=26022692 ?
09:16 PM Rab: Looks like that lathe is fitted with DC servos. If yours is similar, that could make the project somewhat more challenging; since you either have to figure out how to talk to the Isel drives or source your own.
09:18 PM Rab: I have an Isel servo drive cage that I put together from a box of parts. It seemed like good ware, but the interface wasn't obvious. (Mine seemed to fail power on diagnostic, so I never got further.)
10:07 PM ziper: they have this too https://bidera.hibid.com/lot/47314040/davinci-machine-center-pack-isle-automation/?cpage=2&q=&ref=catalog
10:25 PM ziper: oof servo drivers look a bit more expensive than steppers
