12:39 AM ziper: energies23423, what kind of question is that
12:42 AM energies23423: ziper: one that can be answered, hopefully
02:53 AM Net|: https://netpipe.ca/?page_id=1597
03:00 AM Deejay: moin
04:14 AM * Loetmichel likes 1mm sheet brass for making electronic enclosures... small mishaps on the CNC are easily fixed with a soldering iron and/or -torch... alas: those things get HOT... *sucking the yellow striped thumb* ... :-)
04:53 AM jthornton: morning
04:54 AM XXCoder: hey jt
05:02 AM Tom_L: morning
05:13 AM XXCoder: heys
05:39 AM selroc: hello, good new year
05:44 AM gloops: well i did fit the 1/6th HP motor to my bandsaw today and it actually seems to cut quite well - can feed a 4x2 through it no problem anyway, but no bed on it yet so cant test on a log
05:50 AM XXCoder: nice
06:10 AM SpeedEvil: :)
06:31 AM PL7icnc: hi
06:31 AM PL7icnc: School Holiday in Germany
06:31 AM PL7icnc: <- SMILE
06:32 AM PL7icnc: Someone here from Europa or even Germany
06:32 AM gloops: you are a pupil <PL7icnc>?
06:32 AM gloops: or teacher
06:33 AM Loetmichel: PL7icnc: some :)
06:33 AM PL7icnc: i am become a teatcher as the Manhow did this al dis RIP this year
06:34 AM gloops: oh Ichsguckslive
06:34 AM Loetmichel: gloops: as my wife tends to say: "Lehrer haben vormittags recht und nachmittags frei!"
06:34 AM PL7icnc: But i am a Toolmaker mainly
06:34 AM Loetmichel: (teachers are always right before noon and dont have to work after noon)
06:34 AM gloops: heh heh Loetmichel
06:34 AM PL7icnc: Technical Schools wor until 5Pm
06:35 AM PL7icnc: I got a Question to all of You I did Recive A PC that has about 180 tutorials of CNC Stuff on it
06:36 AM PL7icnc: Do You think i shoudt open a YT and make them Public if i get Permission from the Owner
06:37 AM Loetmichel: i would ask the owner why he didnt do that himself
06:37 AM PL7icnc: eis no Longer on this Earth
06:37 AM PL7icnc: He is
06:38 AM Loetmichel: i wouldnt try to "take credit for someone elses work"
06:38 AM Loetmichel: was it ichguggslife?
06:38 AM PL7icnc: i dont Know this Name
06:38 AM Loetmichel: the deceased owner of that PC?
06:39 AM Loetmichel: did he do forest ranger for a while lately?
06:39 AM PL7icnc: The PC has been Given to the Workshop of the School
06:39 AM PL7icnc: im only in this Business for 4weeks Now
06:39 AM Loetmichel: old guy, living near munich?
06:40 AM PL7icnc: Dont Know anything but can Ask
06:40 AM PL7icnc: Will Ask
06:40 AM Loetmichel: because that guy was here all the time before he died.
06:40 AM gloops: are these Ichs videos ?
06:40 AM PL7icnc: DID he make mashines
06:40 AM gloops: definitely yes, they were a great resource for beginners
06:40 AM PL7icnc: for Education
06:40 AM gloops: and experienced as well
06:41 AM Loetmichel: i think so
06:41 AM Loetmichel: cant say for sure though
06:41 AM PL7icnc: Let me Check DO You remember anything specific to search for in this Videos
06:42 AM Loetmichel: if its ichs then good luck to get his heirs to allow you to post them
06:42 AM PL7icnc: That will ident this Man
06:42 AM Loetmichel: they deleted ALL his social media accoutns
06:42 AM Loetmichel: PL7icnc: very bad english ;)
06:42 AM PL7icnc: Good People if they do SO
06:43 AM Loetmichel: and a "grantler" sometimes ;)
06:43 AM PL7icnc: Me
06:43 AM gloops: Sammel Lothar
06:43 AM Loetmichel: cant remember any specifics though
06:43 AM Loetmichel: gloops: that was his name?
06:43 AM Loetmichel: good to know
06:43 AM PL7icnc: i only got the Videos DVD
06:44 AM gloops: i got an email from him with that name Loetmichel
06:44 AM PL7icnc: no other Documentation
06:44 AM gloops: magic cnc maschines
06:44 AM gloops: i think..
06:44 AM Loetmichel: so ichsguggslive name was Lothar Sammel. does that help, PL7icnc?
06:45 AM PL7icnc: no Magic File on the DVD
06:45 AM PL7icnc: i will ask the Principel or the Former Workhelp if he Remembers this
06:46 AM gloops: i wasnt around much but apparently his grandson pulled the videos from youtube
06:47 AM PL7icnc: I woudt realy Love if My Background woudt get all this Done for Me
06:49 AM PL7icnc: OK But Back this is most LUCID so do you think it can be Helpfull anymore its 8years since
06:49 AM PL7icnc: I got in trouble on upgrating 2 Mashines of 35 here to Stretch
06:50 AM PL7icnc: Therefor i ask
06:54 AM gloops: yes i think it is still useful
06:54 AM gloops: i used the videos to get my machine working, much of the hardware is still relevant
06:54 AM gloops: - if they are the same videos
06:56 AM PL7icnc: I try over the Holidays to get answers
06:56 AM PL7icnc: we will see
06:57 AM PL7icnc: Finding the Search words and discrition will be Hard
06:57 AM gloops: ichs was in here 4 times a day helping people, his youtube channel got hundreds of hits a day
06:57 AM PL7icnc: Linuxcnc is not that popular i gues i heard first in November
06:58 AM PL7icnc: but it is fine to tune
06:58 AM PL7icnc: ok im off
06:58 AM PL7icnc: Time Will bring answers!
06:58 AM gloops: ok thanks
06:59 AM gloops: i wonder...lol
10:54 AM gloops: wall street dropping fast
12:51 PM gloops: is this 1 HP motor?
12:52 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/240v-Electric-motor-Working-signal-phase/312354827955?
12:52 PM gloops: nm its 1/4
01:20 PM ekarlso: Hi guys, would it be possible to do a HAL driver in rust?
01:23 PM Vq: Of course it's possible
01:24 PM ekarlso: what does a HAL driver for a VFD do ? is it a binary or ?
01:25 PM Vq: I don't know of any though.
01:25 PM ekarlso: if anyone can explain : )
01:26 PM Vq: Assuming you mean a kernel space HAL component, it's basically a kernel module.
01:26 PM Vq: And there are at least proof-of-concepts of kernel modules written in Rust.
01:27 PM ekarlso: Vq: I mean the vfd modules like the hy vfd driver are those kernel modules ?
01:29 PM Vq: I'm not aware of those.
01:29 PM ekarlso: hmmms
01:29 PM Vq: I use hal components to control VFDs, but not any specific component for it.
01:29 PM ekarlso: hmmm rly
01:30 PM Vq: Yep, the last one I set up was just a PID component, some logic components and a custom statemachine component that I wrote in C.
01:32 PM Vq: Btw, it's really easy to write a HAL component in C if you use the halcompile script.
01:34 PM ekarlso: halcompile ?
01:34 PM ekarlso: are there any examples ?
01:35 PM Vq: And since you run the code in a real-time environment you really want to avoid dynamic memory and even loops, which makes the relative benefits of using Rust quite small.
01:35 PM Vq: There are
01:36 PM Vq: Check out the src/hal/components/ directory.
01:37 PM Vq: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/master/src/hal/components/ddt.comp
01:38 PM Vq: That's a really small and sweet component that you could have written yourself.
01:38 PM Vq: And you can install your own by running: sudo halcompile --install ekarlsos_vfd_driver.comp
01:40 PM Vq: The lines before the ;; declare the pins, parameters and some metadata and the lines after is C source code.
01:54 PM Loetmichel: *gnhihi* coworker brought a c02 pellet gun to work today... so a few of my colleagues went behind the building in lunch break, set up some empty soda cans and started shooting... from 15ft away... AND DIDNT HIT A DARN THING... $me walked by, looked at that, said "let me try!"... took the gun, stepped another 10 feet back, missed once and hit the next 5 rounds. "Gun is perfectly well, its your
01:54 PM Loetmichel: aim. Aside from that, come back here at the house corner(~50 feet)... at 15 feet its way to easy to hit." They were not amused. :-)
01:55 PM Vq: Brilliant :)
02:28 PM gloops: Drones paralyze British airport, grounding Christmas travelers https://reut.rs/2T2002h via @ReutersTV
02:28 PM gloops: this is insane, a couple of drones bring one of the busiest airports in the world to a standstill for 24 hours
02:28 PM gregcnc: I hope that doesn't kill aeromodelling in the UK
02:30 PM ziper: is it that hard to get a guy with a shotgun out there
02:30 PM gloops: id have had that down in 2 minutes with air rifle or catapult
02:31 PM gloops: i dont know if they are trying to trace the operator through the signal or what - this is costing a lot of money
02:31 PM gregcnc: there are means, but the airport must not have them in place?
02:31 PM gloops: the police have marksmen, the army are on the job, its still ongoing
02:31 PM gregcnc: the drones are still flying?
02:32 PM gloops: last i saw yeah
02:32 PM gloops: they come and go, more than 1
02:32 PM ziper: what if it is autonomous? then it would be impossible to find whos running them
02:32 PM gloops: surely the signal can be traced
02:32 PM gloops: we have awacs planes all kinds of stuff
02:33 PM gregcnc: yeah 2.4GHz today?
02:33 PM gloops: no idea
02:34 PM gregcnc: I'm saying it is 2.4Ghz...... find a single source. and yeah if autonomous, this could go on for days
02:34 PM Vq: They should have had Loetmichel come in and shoot them down.
02:34 PM Loetmichel: hihi
02:35 PM Loetmichel: that would be contraproductive
02:35 PM Loetmichel: then they have noone to hold liable for the holdup
02:35 PM gregcnc: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-35750816/eagles-trained-to-take-down-drones
02:35 PM Loetmichel: i think they were searching for the transmitter that controls the drones
02:35 PM gloops: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/8030879/gatwick-staff-mobbed-hundreds-easyjet-passengers-drone-chaos/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1545337562
02:36 PM gloops: these drones could have been packed with novichok, this is the next terror threat
02:36 PM Loetmichel: ziper: its more likely than not not autonomus
02:36 PM ziper: what about a piece of string on another drone
02:36 PM ziper: catch it in the props
02:36 PM Loetmichel: at least it has a wifi or analog video link back to the "pilot"
02:36 PM ziper: or follow it until it lands
02:36 PM Loetmichel: to see what havoc he causes
02:36 PM gregcnc: doesn't have to
02:36 PM gregcnc: it'a ll over the news
02:38 PM gloops: maximum sentence for dangerous drone flying here is 5 years
02:38 PM gloops: although im sure they could dream up a few more charges on top
02:39 PM gregcnc: they won't be found if they planned this well
02:39 PM gloops: i dont know much about it, never used one
02:40 PM gloops: he/they are either bringing the drones back for recharging or they have quite a few, surely they can see where its going back to
02:40 PM gregcnc: cheap enough to be disposable
02:41 PM gloops: they are industrial drones, not toys
02:41 PM gregcnc: all depends how much money was available
02:41 PM gloops: this is organised id say, russians, some state or terror organisation
02:42 PM gloops: hmm, who has the UK upset? - THE EU
02:42 PM gregcnc: probably airline pilots trying to get rid of drones altogether
02:43 PM ziper: i don't think the EU cares that much
02:44 PM gloops: ziper the EU is horrified at the prospect of brexit
02:44 PM gregcnc: but this will be a nail in the coffin for this hobby
02:44 PM gloops: yes thats true gregcnc, already calling for all operators to be licensed
02:44 PM gregcnc: that won't stop anyhting
02:45 PM fragalot: that is already the case here - but it does not solve anything
02:45 PM gloops: although i dont suppose thats enforceable if you cant be caught
02:45 PM gregcnc: gangs in Chicago don't have gun licences
02:45 PM fragalot: all it's done is made it harder for those that want to have fun with it properly
02:45 PM fragalot: if you don't care about flying in illegal zones, you also don't care about a license
02:46 PM gloops: people seem to post videos of no go places on facebook and nobody says anything
02:47 PM fragalot: I never got why anyone would post about themselves doing something illegal
02:47 PM fragalot: yet at the same time I'm glad that people are that dumb :D
02:51 PM ziper: i'm mad that the drone people pushed the FAA into expanding regulations over fixed-wing too
02:53 PM fragalot: I'm mad that there's no definition that differs FPV drones flying long distance vs simplle dumb models
02:53 PM fragalot: I loved my foamie but now I suddenly need a license for the damn thing
02:54 PM fragalot: even just to fly it back & forth in a farmers' field
02:54 PM gregcnc: like study and answer questions or registration?
02:56 PM fragalot: you must follow a theorethical course, and do a practical exam with a licensed instructor
02:56 PM fragalot: sorry, follow a practical course as well, and then do both theorethical and practical exams
02:57 PM gregcnc: I didn't hear about that in Belgium, any other countries in EU done the same?
02:57 PM fragalot: that's the requirement to fly class 1, which is "up to 90m, outside of towns away from people or animals"
02:58 PM fragalot: within visual range, and only during daylight
02:58 PM gregcnc: normal hobby use
02:59 PM fragalot: well, normal hobby use falls in a class less than 1kg, up to 10m high
02:59 PM fragalot: so that already throws out fix wing foamies
02:59 PM gregcnc: that's toys
03:00 PM fragalot: class 2 is up to 5kg, >50m from buildings, up to 45m high
03:00 PM fragalot: you need a certificate for those, and be 16+
03:01 PM fragalot: (that certificate requires you to do the whole course & exam thing)
03:01 PM fragalot: which is why i've given up on the hobby
03:01 PM gregcnc: that's unfortunate
03:28 PM gloops: lol, so now someone has posted ariel photos of gatwick airport
03:30 PM ziper: i managed to snap that nifty combo drill/tap in the second to last hole
03:31 PM gloops: better than the first hole then
03:39 PM XXCoder: power issues at home. wonder if same at work lol
04:01 PM jthornton: yea my gigabit 8 port switch showed up today
04:01 PM XXCoder: yay :)
04:01 PM jthornton: the second 4 port 10/100 is so hot I assume it uses a lot of power and only 3 ports work
04:06 PM XXCoder: might have short there?
04:06 PM ziper: how likely is it that I could harder a harbor freight punch better than the factory did
04:06 PM XXCoder: if not warranty as well as look around and see
04:07 PM jthornton: yea, it's a very old linksys router
04:07 PM Loetmichel: gregcnc: its not as bad as fragalot makes it seem
04:07 PM Loetmichel: i have said cert, it was half an hour online. not all THAT hard
04:07 PM XXCoder: laters. going to work that probably has power issues. yayy
04:07 PM jthornton: later
04:15 PM Deejay: gn8
05:16 PM andypugh: Yay! I have my Faro arm logging and doing forward kins. The DH params are _way_ off but that’s a detail.
05:18 PM jthornton: cool
05:19 PM andypugh: I had to switch from an Arduino Nano to one of these: https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing-adafruit-itsybitsy-m4
05:20 PM andypugh: But they run the exact same code and are programmed with the same IDE, so that just meant changing some physical wires.
05:23 PM jthornton: why did you have to change?
05:24 PM andypugh: The Kinematic calcs needed more than the 2k of memory that the Nano has. The ItsyBitsy has 512k ! (And 2MB of flash on board, which could be used for standalone logging.)
05:25 PM andypugh: Ah, only 192k RAM, but that is 100x as much…
05:34 PM jthornton: are you running python code on the itsy?
08:04 PM andypugh: jthornton: No, I over-wrote the Python for this application.
11:59 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest50869
