03:31 AM Deejay: moin
04:16 AM XXCoder: hey andypugh
04:47 AM Tom_L: morning
04:48 AM XXCoder: hey tom
04:50 AM jthornton: morning
04:50 AM XXCoder: hey
04:52 AM Tom_L: 46°F, Hi 43, Lo 30
04:52 AM Tom_L: heading the wrong way
04:53 AM jthornton: 45°F -> 53°F and rain
04:53 AM Tom_L: at least they were wrong about the rain here so far
04:53 AM XXCoder: more rain. more wind.
04:53 AM XXCoder: low 45f high 47f
04:54 AM Tom_L: they said it was gonna be real windy today but it's calm out right now
06:11 AM SpeedEvil: Wow. i have managed to rust shut a pair of calipers.
06:11 AM SpeedEvil: A plastic pair of calipers.
06:11 AM XXCoder: lol bolt in center rusted?
06:12 AM SpeedEvil: wire.
06:14 AM XXCoder: ahh
06:36 AM XXCoder: hemp is legal in usa. about time
06:36 AM XXCoder: its far better material for some uses
06:40 AM jthornton: I didn't know it was not legal...
06:40 AM XXCoder: its been not for most states for long time
06:40 AM XXCoder: since pot has been schedule 1 (level of heroin and such but hardly that bad), related plants hemp was also banned
06:41 AM XXCoder: you cant get buzz off hemp.
06:42 AM jthornton: I thought you could get hemp rope for a long time?
06:43 AM XXCoder: likely from outside usa or maybe in legal hemp areas?
06:48 AM XXCoder: in any case its legal to grow anywhere now
06:48 AM XXCoder: just dont grow female versions as thats still illegal in many states
06:49 AM jthornton: how do you not grow female versions?
06:49 AM XXCoder: uproot it
06:49 AM jthornton: and you can grow pot here now up to 6 plants
06:50 AM XXCoder: nice. not sure what limitions is in wa
06:50 AM XXCoder: legal though
06:52 AM XXCoder: other material I hope becomes cpommon soon is bamboo
06:52 AM XXCoder: literally grows like grass, no uprooting to harvest, just cut and let regrow
06:52 AM XXCoder: more processing though
07:07 AM jthornton: my buddy has bamboo growing on his property by the river
07:07 AM XXCoder: nice though careful bamboo is very hard to kill
07:07 AM XXCoder: if native its fine though as long as carefully not allow near any house
07:08 AM jthornton: I think it was there when they bought the property
07:08 AM jthornton: it's only hunting land
07:08 AM XXCoder: i get sad if I see "oh I left bamboo in pot, it broke out and now its everywhere"
07:08 AM XXCoder: and bamboo isnt native to land
08:37 AM jesseg: XXCoder, Don't worry about being sad when bamboo breaks out of its pot in a non-native land and goes wild. It's just natural selection and the survival of the fittest. The bamboo, by its cunning looks, has formed a symbiotic relationship with some species which transport it to richer soils, and it's all just nature :P
08:39 AM jesseg: jthornton, so the bamboo is OK in wet soil then? I was thinking about taking out a 100 foot tall cottonwood tree by my pond and house and putting in timber bamboo for shade instead
08:39 AM jesseg: but then I read it doesn't like wet soil
08:39 AM jesseg: and naturally it's wet by the pond
08:42 AM JT-Shop: jesseg: I'm not sure exactly where the bamboo is on my buddies property
08:42 AM jesseg: JT-Shop, oh gotcha, in other words it might be up on higher ground
08:43 AM JT-Shop: aye
08:43 AM JT-Shop: he just brings me some when I need to make plant climbing things
08:44 AM jesseg: lol cool
08:59 AM jesseg: JT-Shop, think this is a scam? https://www.amazon.com/40pcs-bamboo-professional-Bambusa-garden/dp/B079WMWS9V
08:59 AM jesseg: I know bamboo seeds are very difficult to sprout
09:00 AM hazzy-m: we had several acres of thick bamboo forest in an old deserted lot near our house growing up, it was great fun to play in and build forts with, but about 5 years ago it just started dieing and there is not one left. I wonder if it wears out the soil or something
09:00 AM jesseg: and I know if they didn't sprout, it'd be past the return time so pretty much I'm guaranteed to loose my $1.96
09:00 AM jthornton: well the reviews say it all lol
09:00 AM jesseg: hazzy-m, that does sound like the perfect place for kids
09:01 AM hazzy-m: man, we had a blast
09:01 AM jesseg: jthornton, you can't really tell from the reviews.. Bamboo is very difficult to sprout.. I would not expect the average amazon customer to have any success sprouting them.
09:02 AM jthornton: you never can tell
09:02 AM jesseg: yeah
09:03 AM hazzy-m: my dad and sister for scale: https://i.imgur.com/n4ChAS7.png
09:03 AM * jthornton heads for the industrial park to do some trouble shooting and :) make a bit of money
09:03 AM jesseg: and obviously there's a thriving scam culture going on with fake seeds -- all based on the idea that by the time you realize the seed doesn't sprout the return period is up
09:03 AM jesseg: https://www.amazon.com/Strawberry-Planting-Non-Gmo-Vegetable-Organic/dp/B07DL6DHF9
09:04 AM pcw_home: I read "it's only hunting land" as "the Bamboo is only hunting land"
09:04 AM jesseg: wow hazzy-m that is amazing
09:04 AM jthornton: I only buy seeds from https://www.rareseeds.com/
09:05 AM pcw_home: Our neighbors have Arundo Donax and its really invasive
09:06 AM SpeedEvil: Biological control is best.
09:06 AM SpeedEvil: Just buy a packet of pandas.
09:07 AM pcw_home: Yeah luckily our sheep eat it when it pop out of the ground on our side of the fence
09:07 AM jesseg: jthornton, hmm, looks like rareseeds.com hasn't any bamboo
09:07 AM pcw_home: beforw we got sheep it was a constant job with the pick
09:07 AM jesseg: maybe bamboo just doesn't grow from seed
09:16 AM jesseg: I think I'm gonna totally waste $2 on "bamboo seeds." Probably I'm getting bamboozled (lol) but everyone does stupid things and this is me doing it :P
10:51 AM jthornton: yippe I'm done working at the industrial park for the week now I need to decide if I want to make some Spyder exhaust headers or just putz around
11:12 AM jdh: what dis you get to play with?
11:12 AM jthornton: about a hundred or more fun projects half ass started and not finished lol
11:53 AM Tom_L: jthornton, did they pay enough to buy lunch?
11:59 AM JT-Shop2: yea I got 5 meatballs and a diet soda lol
12:15 PM andypugh: XXCoder: Left the computer logged in by mistake when I went to bed
12:20 PM JT-Shop: andypugh: he is sleeping I'd bet
12:48 PM JT-Shop: it's bad when you have to listen to the same tune forever while on hold waiting for the next service person
12:51 PM JT-Shop: your wait is currently more than 5 minutes hang up, explode or give up...
01:14 PM Tom_L: give up and wait another 20 min listening to the same crap music on a horrible connection
01:15 PM Tom_L: they should at least offer you a playlist
01:16 PM Tom_L: and why is it always 3x louder than their voice?
01:29 PM JT-Shop: back from lunch and still on hold listening to that crappy scratchy tune over and over lol
02:24 PM gregcnc: wtf is up with the bomb threats
02:25 PM JT-Shop: where at?
02:35 PM JT-Shop: so they told me a micro sd card is not the same as a full size sd card and won't work with that game camera
02:39 PM JT-Shop: https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2520/~/sd%2Fsdhc%2Fsdxc-specifications-and-compatibility
02:40 PM JT-Shop: everything you wanted to know about sd cards
03:01 PM andypugh: I found an interesting cam using a reuleaux triangle in “507 Mechanical movements” and decided to model it.
03:01 PM andypugh: reuleaux triangle
03:02 PM andypugh: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sb9A1yXZdN1dRp1x8
03:02 PM XXCoder: jesseg: im concerned only if non-native. one you linked to is clumping so should be fairly safe.
03:02 PM andypugh: It’s quite neat, it pauses motion for 60 degrees at two points int he cycle.
03:03 PM XXCoder: hey andypugh i found an issue im not sure how to solve, one file needs +x permission but local copy has that bit enabled, but repo dont
03:04 PM XXCoder: so when i copy configuration it cant run till i set +x then it works fine
03:05 PM andypugh: Which file?
03:09 PM XXCoder: the vismach file
03:10 PM XXCoder: 2.7 version is rolfmill, and 2.8 is 3axis-tutorial
03:10 PM XXCoder: (no file extension)
03:14 PM XXCoder: I really should write a tutoral page for it, but dunno how to write docs
03:21 PM Net|: looking rough for the first prototype https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3278377
03:23 PM jthornton: XXCoder: you just write them with a text editor
03:24 PM XXCoder: not how to :)
03:24 PM XXCoder: how to say it etc
03:24 PM jthornton: ah ok
03:24 PM XXCoder: comments is easier as its just follow process
03:25 PM Deejay: gn8
03:25 PM XXCoder: tutorials should have more details as well as nicer language etc
03:25 PM andypugh: XXCoder: The version in Master seems to already have execute permissions
03:25 PM XXCoder: hmm maybe its just 2.7 version rolfmill
03:26 PM XXCoder: i went in (surpising long) sample configurations, picked rolfmill and made a local copy. it didnt work, and when i looked at orginial location it didnt have +x either
03:28 PM andypugh: It should have now
03:28 PM methods_: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/82578/why-is-that-when-i-download-a-binary-from-the-web-it-doesnt-have-executable-per
03:29 PM XXCoder: methods_: that doesnt apply
03:29 PM XXCoder: its not a download
03:31 PM XXCoder: andypugh: you fixed it? thanks :) how do people give certain permissions on git anyway like +X
03:32 PM andypugh: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/9027584/how-to-change-the-file-mode-on-github
03:33 PM XXCoder: interesting. thanks :)
03:34 PM XXCoder: i should get 2.7 source and change rolfmill to 3axis-tutorial like 2.8 version later
03:37 PM jthornton: the 2.8 configuration should be different than 2.7
03:38 PM XXCoder: so just leave it as rolfmill?
03:38 PM jthornton: no, I meant the contents should be different because of changes to 2.8 like VERSION = 1.0 must be in 2.8 ini file
03:39 PM XXCoder: yeah saw differences in 2.8
03:39 PM XXCoder: i dont plan to simply copy over but make seperate edits
03:40 PM jthornton: that's what I do when stuff is different
03:40 PM * jthornton wonders if he ever got git straightened out on this new PC???
03:41 PM XXCoder: 2.7 is in branch simply named 2.7 correct?
03:43 PM XXCoder: it is, saw andy's commit
03:44 PM XXCoder: not enough time for me to do anything now later maybe
03:44 PM XXCoder: 20 minutes before going to work
04:07 PM jthornton: see you in the morning
04:21 PM gloops: Russia's state-of-the-art robot exposed as man in costume https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/weird/russias-state-of-the-art-robot-exposed-as-man/
07:10 PM MarcelineVQ: russian bots eh...
