02:24 AM Deejay: moin
05:22 AM jthornton: morning
05:26 AM XXCoder: hey
05:31 AM Net|: have you guys tried tinycorelinux yet ?
05:31 AM Net|: i see new linuxcnc is out
05:33 AM XXCoder: jthornton: tried to copy rolfmill (2.7 still has that) and permission denied
05:34 AM XXCoder: ./rolfmill.hal:55: execv(./rolfmill): Permission denied
05:36 AM XXCoder: im kinda pretty sure 2.8 version 3axis-tutorial also would have same issue
05:37 AM XXCoder: Net|: hey not really
05:41 AM jthornton: alright the chickens are away and no one laid an egg from the roost
05:41 AM jthornton: XXCoder: not sure what your saying
05:41 AM XXCoder: if you select rolfmill (or 3axis-tutorial) and make a local copy for modifications you will get permission error
05:42 AM XXCoder: its probably not +x at installation
05:42 AM XXCoder: or maybe its user access
05:42 AM jthornton: odd
05:42 AM XXCoder: lemme try +X
05:43 AM XXCoder: yep +x needed
05:44 AM jthornton: I made a copy using linuxcnc of rolf mill in master and the files have me as owner except for one dumb halib file which is so dumb to be a symlink
05:47 AM jthornton: it's wrong if you have to modify file permissions when you have linuxcnc config launcher copy the files
05:47 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:48 AM XXCoder: so 2 files need to be fixed, rolfmill and 3axis-tutorial (across 2 versions of linuxcnc)
05:48 AM jthornton: I always build linuxcnc and test any changes I do before commiting them
05:49 AM XXCoder: whats odd is copy I sent you had +x
05:50 AM jthornton: I don't know what +x is
05:50 AM XXCoder: oh exec permissions
05:51 AM jthornton: none of the config files need execution permission
05:51 AM XXCoder: yeah but the vismach file requires it
05:51 AM jthornton: ah yea that does require it, I assumed you were talking about the ini or hal file
05:52 AM XXCoder: yeah not those :)
05:52 AM XXCoder: i like idea of vismach being also copied also, since its also where majority of comments is in.
05:52 AM XXCoder: other vismach files is nigh-impossible to find if you dont know where those are stored at
05:53 AM XXCoder: but problems with permissions hm i dont know how to alter it so it sets +x on vismach file.
05:54 AM jthornton: I don't know why rolfmill does not have +x for you because from master (before your change) it does have +x
05:56 AM XXCoder: mine is 2.7 version of rolfmill maybe 2.8 has +x while 2,7 doesnt? how do you check anyway
05:58 AM jthornton: that is really odd because 2.7 should be exactly the same as 2.8 before your PR
05:58 AM Tom_L: morning
05:58 AM XXCoder: yeah it should be as mine is 2.7 so its still rolfmill and not 3axis-tutorial
05:59 AM XXCoder: i wonder if when it copies from orginial location to my linuxcnc in home dir it fails to copy attribite +x also?
05:59 AM jthornton: are you going to make a tutorial to go along with the configuration?
05:59 AM Tom_L: 21°F Hi 44 & clear
05:59 AM XXCoder: lemme see where orginial
06:01 AM XXCoder: orginial file at /usr/share/doc/linuxcnc/examples/sample-configs/sim/axis/vismach/rolfmill file has rw r r permission
06:03 AM weenerdog: snowmageddon 2018 :)))
06:03 AM XXCoder: once a while I wish it snows here
06:03 AM XXCoder: so I dont gonna go to work lol
06:03 AM XXCoder: only couple days mind
06:08 AM XXCoder: jthornton: thought you was planning to write it?
06:09 AM XXCoder: maybe i forgot dunno
06:22 AM jthornton: I said it was a good idea to have a chapter in the documents vismach tutorial to go along with a configuration that is called tutorial
06:23 AM XXCoder: ahh ok
06:23 AM jthornton: hmm now I need to get my ssh key set back up on this pc :(
06:23 AM XXCoder: shouldnt be too complex
06:27 AM jthornton: no just one more thing of the million things to get working when you build a new pc :(
06:27 AM XXCoder: if I recall right (havent needed to do it since 2009) you could just copy and restore private key
06:35 AM jthornton: and just when I thought I had the 2TB drive setup correctly I find it's owned by Root
07:15 AM jthornton: well found my missing hat and caught the damn rat things are looking up
07:18 AM XXCoder: they was trying to steal your hat.
07:25 AM jthornton: damn hard to find an example of borg backup that is not using encryption and who needs that for a local backup
07:25 AM jthornton: it ain't stealing anything now except the glue trap it's stuck in lol
07:25 AM XXCoder: lol
07:25 AM jthornton: damn finally found it borg init --encryption=none /path/to/repo
07:26 AM jthornton: there doesn't seem to be an end to the borg man page...
07:27 AM XXCoder: resistance is fututile
07:28 AM jthornton: AUTHOR The Borg Collective
07:28 AM jthornton: at least they have a sense of humor
07:28 AM XXCoder: :)
08:06 AM jthornton: geez every tutorial on writing a shell script spends forever telling you how to us vi
08:26 AM jdh: because they don't know how to use cat(1)
08:36 AM jthornton: cat(1)
08:36 AM jthornton: bash: syntax error near unexpected token `1'
08:49 AM jdh: cat > foo.sh
09:00 AM JT-Shop: weenerdog: still snowing?
10:03 AM weenerdog: jt : like going out of style
10:04 AM gregcnc: where is that?
10:04 AM weenerdog: greg : nc mountains
10:05 AM JT-Shop2: how much do they predict now?
10:06 AM weenerdog: a couple feet
10:06 AM weenerdog: i love a good snow
10:07 AM * weenerdog runs out on the porch nekkid and does his injun snow dance :)
10:11 AM JT-Shop2: lol
10:16 AM * JT-Shop2 wonders what he will ever do with 4,000 feet of paracord
10:17 AM syyl: knot a realy long keychain?
10:18 AM JT-Shop2: or make a giant Celtic knot?
10:18 AM syyl: all very practial!
10:19 AM weenerdog: jt : we get this stuff here called 'muletape'... 1/4" nylon webbing rope. like $60 for a roll of more than you'll every use.
10:26 AM jthornton: we get muletape for free after they pull it out of the fiber tubing
10:26 AM jthornton: my buddy has miles of it lol from when he was a phone guy
10:33 AM rmu: i just read 1/4" wedding rope and tried to figure out what that would be
11:15 AM jdh: for reluctant grooms
11:25 AM circ-user-EPpDv: Hello, could someone help me to troubleshoot my setup of ec-debianize please?
11:26 AM jthornton: never heard of ec-debianize... what is it?
11:27 AM circ-user-EPpDv: https://github.com/sittner/ec-debianize
11:28 AM jthornton: that might be a stretch finding someone on here that knows about ethercat, they do talk about it on the forum a lot
11:28 AM jthornton: in any case we don't ask if someone can help on here we just ask the question...
11:28 AM jthornton: and wait
11:32 AM flyback: bmcc
11:32 AM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWmjQ4RosGuJvivB73YedFw
11:32 AM * flyback bites ve7it
11:38 AM crazyben: Hi
11:38 AM crazyben is now known as crazyben_
11:38 AM crazyben_ is now known as crazyben
11:41 AM crazyben: ... someone out there?
11:41 AM jdh: where
11:42 AM crazyben: :-)
11:42 AM crazyben: I was uncertain whether I am logged in or not.
11:43 AM crazyben: Is someone here using linuxcnc with ethercat?
11:56 AM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-FpeRf3RvQ
01:03 PM sensille: if i want to mill a workpiece from several sides, i need to find the proper coordinates again after turning. there a probably a ton of tricks to do that. does that have a specific name? is that part of every machining book?
01:04 PM syyl: all of the above ;)
01:04 PM syyl: search terms: edgefinder, probing
01:05 PM sensille: linuxcnc can probably do that, given the workpice is metal
01:06 PM sensille: ah, edge finder is a device :)
01:07 PM sensille: i want that :)
01:11 PM sensille: and to mount a workpiece upright a machine vice is probably the easiest way
01:11 PM Rab: Mechanical edgefinder is cheap and awesome! Requires manual jogging and zeroing, though. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07JZHSJR6
01:15 PM sensille: is there something similar to find the top?
01:16 PM Rab: That's a great question, but I don't have an answer.
01:16 PM jdh: jog and a gauge pin
01:28 PM sensille: gauge pin to have a flat surface?
01:37 PM crazyben: Someone using ethercat in here?
01:37 PM rmu: sensille: you jog down the tool until you can't move the gauge pin through
01:38 PM sensille: ah, i see. thanks
01:41 PM sensille: Loetmichel: as i can't tap with the machine, which tool do i use instead, from sorotec?
01:44 PM sensille: "gewindewirbler"?
01:45 PM rmu: sensille: gewindefräser?
01:45 PM sensille: so probably these https://www.sorotec.de/shop/Zerspanungswerkzeuge/sorotec-werkzeuge/Gewindefraeser/
01:46 PM rmu: they are expensive
01:48 PM sensille: normally loetmichel always points me to that shop as being not too expensive. i look somewhere else
01:48 PM Loetmichel: nope
01:48 PM Loetmichel: i never said that they are not expensive
01:48 PM Loetmichel: they are. but worht EVERY penny
01:48 PM Loetmichel: worth
01:48 PM sensille: yeah, that
01:49 PM sensille: so not too expensive
01:49 PM Loetmichel: i see often how the quality of mill bits is from ebay that a coworker carries to the company mill
01:51 PM Loetmichel: i am to cheap to buy a set of 100 2mm tungsten carbide two flute mill bits from ebay for $50 and rather buy a 10 pack from sorotec for the same price because i know that i get sharp mill bits AND they last forever.
01:51 PM sensille: until now everything from sorotec works nice
01:51 PM Loetmichel: (provided i dont break them off)
01:51 PM Loetmichel: exactly
01:52 PM sensille: the collets made all the difference
01:52 PM Loetmichel: i can imagine
01:52 PM Loetmichel: was that chinese collet THAT far off?
01:53 PM sensille: yes, or i did it wrong. with the new collet the milling result was +- 0.03mm
01:54 PM HighInBC: I got measuring tape from china once and it was 27% too short
01:54 PM HighInBC: it was a source of great confusion until I figured it out
01:54 PM sensille: "chinese cm"
01:54 PM HighInBC: lol
01:55 PM sensille: still, the gewindefraeser is expensive :-/
01:55 PM Loetmichel: it is
01:56 PM Loetmichel: and its prone to breaking if you do something wrong
01:56 PM Loetmichel: but if you do it right its awesome
01:59 PM Loetmichel: HighInBC: i once got measurement tape that was about 20% too short... was equally confusing.
01:59 PM HighInBC: I cut it up before throwing it out, lest some homeless person end up measuring things wrong
02:00 PM sensille: :)
03:01 PM * JT-Shop finally got a project done... https://imagebin.ca/v/4PRlUh97YnNO
03:02 PM syyl: is that for a cat?
03:03 PM JT-Shop: bird feeder
03:03 PM JT-Shop: old wood parts got rotten and it fell apart a year ago...
03:12 PM syyl: :)
03:26 PM Loetmichel: *hmpf*... just seen a youtube vid about an 8ties pontiac firebird ("K.I.T.T.") "barn find rescue"... the poster bought it from the barn owner for $500... DAMN over here in germany such a car would be about $20k++ even in worse condition... sometimes i whish i would live in america...
03:41 PM JT-Shop: in situ https://imagebin.ca/v/4PRxByf7fC7D
