01:10 AM PL7icnc: someone on mesa
01:14 AM PL7icnc: pcw_home, Sir are You Online
01:29 AM PL7icnc: Is Someone here online ?
01:49 AM PL7icnc: pcw mail
02:04 AM PL7icnc: Anyone here on Mesa 7i92
03:18 AM Deejay: moin
03:20 AM rmu: p100 with 32mb... 25 years old?
03:21 AM rmu: i would put the harddisk into an usb<->ide converter and image the harddrive on a current PC
05:07 AM jthornton: morning
05:08 AM XXCoder: hey
05:11 AM jthornton: damn monitor crapping out
05:15 AM XXCoder: sucks. light turns on and off?
05:16 AM jthornton: yea the blue power light just goes on and off, switched to a tiny one but crap it's hard to see lol
05:17 AM XXCoder: weird that happened to qa montior yeserday
05:17 AM XXCoder: I just unplugged it
05:17 AM XXCoder: its ok now so dunnp
05:19 AM jthornton: got a new monitor due here last tuesday maybe today it will show up lol
05:19 AM jthornton: can't get any chicken work done on this tiny monitor lol
05:22 AM Tom_L: morning
05:28 AM XXCoder: hey
05:28 AM jthornton: morning
05:28 AM XXCoder: jt hmm a len? ;)
05:29 AM jthornton: I swapped monitors for this old HP one
05:31 AM SpeedEvil: new monitor here too - which is finally big enough.
05:32 AM SpeedEvil: 40" curved 4K :)
05:32 AM XXCoder: so it grew enough to be finally pucked off montior tree? ;)
05:33 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJMM366
05:34 AM jthornton: SpeedEvil: how do you like the curved monitor?
05:34 AM jthornton: got a link to it?
05:34 AM XXCoder: geez pretty cheap
05:35 AM jthornton: looked like most of them are 1920x1080 now
05:35 AM XXCoder: too bad no HDMI on pc
05:35 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MSYXDC7
05:36 AM jthornton: 3840 x 2160/4 what does the /4 mean?
05:37 AM SpeedEvil: I would like it slightly more curved, but it makes it a lot easier to manage when close to it - I'm sitting 1m from it
05:37 AM XXCoder: its 4 ms
05:37 AM XXCoder: 4 ms refresh I guess
05:38 AM XXCoder: response time 4 ms in list below it
05:38 AM SpeedEvil: It is finally large enough that I can't comfortably read text on the whole screen - which was not the case on my previous monitor - hence using multiple windows on the screen at the same time is not a sacrifice
05:38 AM XXCoder: not sure what response time is, but I guess its refresh
05:38 AM MarcelineVQ: not exactly. ms is related to color change speed, higher ms means you get worse ghosting, which translates to motion blur
05:38 AM XXCoder: ahh so whats decent range?
05:38 AM XXCoder: 4 ms without range is meaningless
05:38 AM MarcelineVQ: depends what you do, 4ms black to black is fine for most people, tvs are much worse
05:39 AM MarcelineVQ: you want like 2ms at most if you're gaming
05:39 AM SpeedEvil: The real nice thing for me is it goes quite dim without any flicker on the backlight
05:39 AM MarcelineVQ: because it's also relevant to input speed, you want to be able to react to what's happening as it happens
05:40 AM XXCoder: cool
05:40 AM MarcelineVQ: like when your reactions are tuned for 16 ms, 4ms delay is deadly
05:40 AM rmu: seems there is no real standard what "response time" really means
05:41 AM jthornton: so for programming 5ms is ok
05:41 AM jthornton: ?
05:41 AM rmu: could be duration of transition from "10% white" do "90% white" or the other way round or from 20% to 80%
05:42 AM rmu: 5ms is fast enough for programming
05:42 AM MarcelineVQ: jthornton: yeah for sure
05:43 AM rmu: those mainframe terminals back in the day had a response time measured in seconds ;-) and even that was usable for programming
05:43 AM XXCoder: I want 0.1 ms
05:43 AM XXCoder: ;)
05:43 AM SpeedEvil: rmu: Printing terminals are fun.
05:43 AM MarcelineVQ: input delay is a function of refresh rate and response time, if you're just coding and watching videos there's not really a wrong option in a modern panel
05:44 AM SpeedEvil: It's only really fast twitch games you care about.
05:45 AM SpeedEvil: If you don't actually care that your game is not running at 60FPS, you don't care about it.
05:46 AM XXCoder: yeah im not much of gamer anymore
05:46 AM rmu: scrolling around in program text or web pages also benefits from response time. slow displays just wash out the things that are in motion regardless the framerate
05:47 AM rmu: but i never saw a flat monitor in the last 10-15 years with problems like that.
05:47 AM SpeedEvil: once it hits perhaps a quarter of the frame period, returns diminish
05:47 AM rmu: early passive lc-displays were horrible
05:48 AM SpeedEvil: I can't seem to find the right search string to find out if curved monitors are made flat - and at what stage
06:42 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton
06:42 AM jthornton: hay
06:42 AM XXCoder: did you see couple very minor changes I sent while ago?
06:42 AM jthornton: no, I don't check email down here just in the shop
06:43 AM XXCoder: oh not email, but git
06:43 AM jthornton: I need to get that setup on this pc
06:44 AM XXCoder: i dont see it, but may be in wrong version
06:55 AM XXCoder: damn found a silly mistake in ini
06:55 AM XXCoder: PROGRAM_PREFIX =/home/rolf/linuxcnc/nc_files line 45 in ini
06:55 AM XXCoder: probably want to change or just remove?
06:56 AM XXCoder: doubt most people have home folder of rolf ;)
07:22 AM jthornton: lol I think your right
07:55 AM weenerdog: howdy
08:15 AM jthornton: hey
08:18 AM weenerdog: well they dropped the snow forecast from 3' to around 2
08:18 AM weenerdog: i'll probably still put the blade on the tractor in case
08:19 AM weenerdog: so i'll have a 3 days to snuggle up by the fire and learn more sw kung fu
08:48 AM tiwake: should I get https://www.harborfreight.com/welding/mig-flux-welders/migmax-215-industrial-welder-with-120240-volt-input-63617.html
08:48 AM tiwake: or
08:48 AM tiwake: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013HGPNDM?pf_rd_p=c2945051-950f-485c-b4df-15aac5223b10&pf_rd_r=JB8J1Q94NR153ZQNM9VP
08:52 AM JT-Shop: weenerdog: do you have a front mounted snow plow or use a rear mounted grader blade?
08:56 AM JT-Shop: tiwake: all my welders are blue...
08:58 AM tiwake: JT-Shop: realistically the vulkan one is the same exact thing, just $500 cheaper. I have looked at many reviews of the vulkan and can not find anything wrong with it, even after a couple years of regular use
08:58 AM weenerdog: sorry was away jt. the latter.
08:59 AM weenerdog: i wont use it for snow unless i just gotta.
09:01 AM jthornton: I have the same a rear mounted grader blade for the `56 Ferguson, works pretty good on an angle
09:10 AM weenerdog: i wont use it unless we get buried. my pa aint very well and i would stay home unless i needed to take him to the hospital or something.
09:10 AM weenerdog: now my atv is a different story lol. i love playing in the snow on it.
09:11 AM weenerdog: 92 honda 300 4x4 i bought as a carcass and rebuilt with love
09:11 AM weenerdog: killer old bike
09:16 AM weenerdog: heh i'd love a mig. all i got is my trusty lincoln buzz box
09:17 AM jthornton: my best mig is my miller suitcase portable, runs on straight co2 and does not splatter at all
09:17 AM weenerdog: thats cool
09:18 AM tiwake: hmm
09:19 AM tiwake: jthornton: how much did that cost?
09:30 AM JT-Shop2: I'd have to look for the ticket, been a few years since I purchased it
09:31 AM weenerdog: look to be either around a grand or around 2 grand depending on which one
09:31 AM weenerdog: nice tool either way
09:34 AM JT-Shop2: it's a Millermatic Passport welder
09:35 AM weenerdog: onice
09:44 AM weenerdog: mine is the lincoln ac-225 electrocutomatic :)
09:53 AM * JT-Shop should actually get some work done today but doesn't feel like it
10:21 AM JT-Shop: at least the monitor tracking shows it out for delivery
10:22 AM JT-Shop: from the time stamp I'm guessing it was a hand off from UPS to USPS
10:25 AM PL7icnc: pcw_home, Online ?
10:25 AM PL7icnc: In the forum someone caled Andy is he here on Mesa stuff bitfiling
10:27 AM skunkworks: PL7icnc: as your question
10:28 AM PL7icnc: skunkworks, Are You Sir An...
10:29 AM PL7icnc: skunkworks, I am changing a full running 5Axis +TC with 2 Parport BOB to 7i76
10:29 AM PL7icnc: so far so Good
10:30 AM PL7icnc: BUT the Pin 14 of eatch control the Drive Enable
10:31 AM PL7icnc: On Parport it is Linuxcnc first to start then mashine Power BOB
10:31 AM PL7icnc: on Mesa it is machine First then Linuxcnc
10:32 AM PL7icnc: so as Mesa is Pull Up 5V High on PowerUp
10:32 AM PL7icnc: all the drives go on bevor any control
10:33 AM PL7icnc: it is a massive Recabeling and adding Electronic Parts
10:33 AM PL7icnc: skunkworks, Can does be done in the Bitfile of the 7i92
10:35 AM PL7icnc: I am a Mesa Beginner 2days In
10:35 AM PL7icnc: Machine is Running so far all Pins Changed
10:36 AM PL7icnc: All the infos i get is very old and nothing on 7i92
10:37 AM PL7icnc: in the Forum a Person 10K got the Same Problem
10:37 AM PL7icnc: and has been told to Refit the System
10:39 AM PL7icnc: skunkworks, Sir Still Online
10:40 AM PL7icnc: There is also Someone named Tom that did alot on Spartan2 Ise Bitfile change
10:44 AM PL7icnc: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/30210-mesa-7i92-bit-file
10:46 AM PL7icnc: i am Using 7i92_5ABOBx2D Firmware that fits the Mashine
10:47 AM PL7icnc: but only the enable is wrong
10:47 AM PL7icnc: i gues the PWM inverting can be done in Config
10:49 AM PL7icnc: skunkworks, Sir only a Fake Replay no Real Help as No More Action
10:51 AM skunkworks: I am here
10:52 AM PL7icnc: Fine
10:52 AM PL7icnc: Sir did You Follow the Posts i Placed
10:54 AM PL7icnc: i am Off
10:54 AM skunkworks: are the drives enabled with the mesa card off?
10:54 AM skunkworks: ugh
10:58 AM pcw_home: With parallel port BOBs that dont have a chargepump its probabl best to have estop circuitry disable everything until
10:59 AM pcw_home: linuxcnc is running and linuxcncs software Estop is disengaged
11:08 AM fragalot: hi
11:10 AM weenerdog: howdy
11:10 AM gloops: evening
11:58 AM jthornton: wee new 27" monitor up and going!
12:06 PM jthornton: FinboySlick: fyi I plugged that same hard drive into another pc and it booted up
12:13 PM FinboySlick: jthornton: That's sort of impressive. I mean the boot process runs as root anyway so it can read everything but I'm surprised it doesn't check ownership of things like /etc/shadow
12:13 PM jthornton: I guess what I did was just local to this pc and when I moved the drive it went back to normal
12:13 PM jthornton: or normal to this running os
12:54 PM gloops: them there markets is sliding this week
03:37 PM Deejay: gn8
04:41 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/gallery/SRbG0ud hot chips
04:42 PM Tom_L: inconel?
04:43 PM weenerdog: hell yeah
04:43 PM weenerdog: drive it like you stole it
04:43 PM CaptHindsight: Induction hardened chrome plated rod with a whisker reinforced ceramic insert
04:44 PM Tom_L: meh, child's play
04:44 PM Tom_L: personal protection required
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: the key is also ready to launch
04:46 PM Tom_L: bonus
04:46 PM Tom_L: you do it, you deserve what you get
04:51 PM Tom_L: OSHA would have a picnic with that
05:08 PM jthornton: what a pia I transferred all my bookmarks but not the usernames and passwords
05:09 PM Tom_L: you don't just have one for everything???
05:11 PM jthornton: I did at one time but everyone wants different shit this one you must have a cap that one you need numbers the other one you need puntuation marks lol
05:12 PM jthornton: for any I'm worried about I have really random passwords generated by a program I wrote
05:14 PM Tom_L: that reminds me of a c program a bud of mine wrote for master / slave lock tumblers
05:15 PM Tom_L: he owned a bunch of rentals way back then
05:15 PM weenerdog: i college i wrote a blackjack program that used seismic data from a system i hosted for usgs to generate random numbers
05:16 PM weenerdog: in ada lol
05:25 PM jthornton: dang I think I have a working solution for the chicken lights that I like
05:35 PM Tom_L: must be the new monitor
05:37 PM jthornton: yea, but now I still have a problem with the algorithm lol can't make up my mind
05:49 PM _unreal_: ziper, you figure out your FRP thing?
06:21 PM weenerdog: what are you trying to decide, jt?
06:22 PM weenerdog: autonomous 2 axis rifle for coyotes?
06:22 PM weenerdog: or going straight for something with a guidance system?
06:53 PM ziper: _unreal_, I havnt started on it yet
07:29 PM _unreal_: So what did you want to try to do again?
07:30 PM _unreal_: the 2 photos of the boats and the cockpits? or the acrylic?
