12:00 AM flyback is now known as scarface-
12:04 AM scarface- is now known as flyback
01:22 AM gloops: .
01:27 AM gloops: all quiet on the western front
01:46 AM pink_vampire: hi
02:03 AM Deejay: moin
04:17 AM XXCoder: hey pink_vampire
05:14 AM Tom_L: morning
05:14 AM XXCoder: hey
05:36 AM jthornton: morning
05:37 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton
05:37 AM XXCoder: today I kinda rocked lol
05:37 AM jthornton: cool, I over slept this morning
05:37 AM XXCoder: I used bad part to setup and find X and Y
05:37 AM XXCoder: it looked good so I ran good part.
05:38 AM XXCoder: oops seems it messed with xy enough to scrap parts (one bar makes 5 parts)
05:38 AM XXCoder: chamfer was pretty off badly
05:38 AM XXCoder: so I got a red tag (required) but while walking back to machine I think hmm
05:38 AM XXCoder: thickness tol is whole .01" +-
05:39 AM XXCoder: so I figure I use good part to find X Y again, but I also lower Z by .005"
05:39 AM XXCoder: boom, good part
05:39 AM jthornton: that's a huge tolerance
05:39 AM XXCoder: whats funny is that face thickness is 0.032". so range is .022" to .042"
05:40 AM XXCoder: its pretty tiny part little more than tube with flat round face on it
05:40 AM XXCoder: shh dont tell that to terrorists lol (limition on boeing secret design :P )
05:41 AM jthornton: my 12v gear motor finally came in so now I can get started building the new chicken pop door
05:41 AM XXCoder: awesome :)
05:41 AM XXCoder: now add touch screen to control door while youre there :)
05:41 AM XXCoder: ;)
05:42 AM jthornton: I have a manual override switch for the door
05:42 AM jthornton: I want to use a better track system for the door this time
05:42 AM XXCoder: door position tracking, or literal tracks
05:43 AM jthornton: tracks for the door
05:43 AM XXCoder: cool
05:43 AM jthornton: old one used a couple of 20/20 bars but too much slop for the magnetic switches
05:43 AM XXCoder: if you melt your own HDPE from milk cartons by boiling oil, you could make self-lubcating bushings or whatever
05:44 AM jthornton: na, that's too much work lol
05:44 AM XXCoder: because even if you press it into shape, there is countless micro oil spots
05:44 AM XXCoder: lol
05:46 AM jthornton: I think I have some drawer slides somewhere around here but first I need to make the spool for the motor and the mount for it
05:47 AM XXCoder: wont it get rusty?
05:47 AM jthornton: the door is on the inside wall so no
05:48 AM XXCoder: not bad
05:48 AM jthornton: I wonder if this pc not waking up is the monitor?
05:49 AM XXCoder: it may be having trouble turning on lights
05:49 AM XXCoder: try montior on something else
05:51 AM jthornton: yea I have one that is a bit smaller I can swap with
05:52 AM XXCoder: try this also, when it refuses to wake up, shine a strong flashlight right up on screen
05:52 AM XXCoder: flashlight touching screen, you should be able to see whatever its displaying without light
05:52 AM XXCoder: if you can, its on,, just not turning lights on
05:52 AM jthornton: ah ok I have my egg candle light I can use that
05:53 AM XXCoder: I had montior die on me, I had to use flashlight to turn off my computer lol
05:53 AM XXCoder: move mouse, find it using flashlight, repeat
05:54 AM jthornton: the power light on the monitor blinks slowly maybe that's a clue
05:54 AM XXCoder: maybe google <model #> light blink slowly
05:56 AM jthornton: and this is the only monitor I have with a HDMI plug that I can use on the Raspberry Pi
05:56 AM Loetmichel: jthornton: that usually means its in "poer save" mode
05:56 AM Loetmichel: +w
05:57 AM Loetmichel: try plugging the HDMIm cable out and back in while both pi and monitor are running
05:58 AM Loetmichel: is there a display for a moment that says "no signal on port [x] going to sleep"?
05:59 AM jthornton: I rarely have the pi plugged in only when I can't ssh into one
06:06 AM jthornton: if I unplug the DVI plug it just says no signal
06:32 AM XXCoder: man I love my pebble watch
06:33 AM XXCoder: after a week its still at 60% charge
06:33 AM XXCoder: plenty of battery life. I didnt want daily charge watch
06:34 AM Loetmichel: hmmm
06:37 AM Loetmichel: i like my casio A164W for that reason... every 2-3 years battery change and its pretty sturdy. Gets expensive to get them lately, i tend to destroy one every 10 years or so... .- -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=4032&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:38 AM Loetmichel: <- doesent need a smartwatch
06:38 AM XXCoder: lol yea my watch is much shorter in comparasion, but its rechargable and it gets notification from pohone so on
06:38 AM Loetmichel: i have a smartphone ;)
06:38 AM XXCoder: damn can pebble watch vibrate
06:38 AM XXCoder: I cant feel anything from phone.
06:39 AM * Loetmichel has his phone on a belt clip and can feel it vibrate
06:39 AM XXCoder: I cant
06:39 AM * jthornton never wears a watch and doesn't carry a phone
06:39 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=13537&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
06:39 AM XXCoder: timeless classic eh
06:40 AM Loetmichel: the fact that the clip is made of metal may have to do something with it though
06:40 AM XXCoder: maybe lol
06:41 AM XXCoder: funny thing is I bought pebble AFTER pebble company went under
06:42 AM XXCoder: thankfully group of people created Rebble, a replacement server and app download site
06:42 AM XXCoder: so my watch still works
06:47 AM jthornton: opps I went out to check the chickens a bit early the door doesn't open for 6 more minutes
06:47 AM XXCoder: timeless experence. ;)
06:49 AM jthornton: they all had a confused look like wtf are you doing out here the lights not on yet
06:57 AM jthornton: what does a pebble/rebble do?
06:58 AM XXCoder: its a smart watch basically. gets notifications from phone, as well as can do some stuff by itself. for example theres this amazing compass app where it shows compass in normal mode, and side view (points where directions are) when vertical
06:58 AM XXCoder: can change clock faces, mine is basic one with weather on it.
06:59 AM XXCoder: if I twist my arm and return quickly, it shows 3 day weather briefly. because why not lol
06:59 AM jthornton: lol
07:03 AM XXCoder: anyway I bought it for 22 bucks, turned out charger dont work, got $5 refund and bought one for bit less
07:04 AM XXCoder: then turns out there was screen minor burn-in, asked about it and got anither $5
07:04 AM XXCoder: so its pretty cheap at end
07:04 AM jthornton: no wonder they went under lol
07:04 AM XXCoder: no, from ebay
07:05 AM XXCoder: it was used one
07:05 AM jthornton: ah ok
07:05 AM XXCoder: honestly they went under due to severial factors including later generations of pebble having bad buttons issues
07:05 AM XXCoder: mine is pebble classic, post-kickstarter so its best version
07:05 AM jthornton: I have one month to get my new chicken door/light code into the current coop
07:06 AM XXCoder: features-wise pebble 2 hr is best, but really bad 2 button issue
07:06 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zAxOA5XRp0
07:07 AM jthornton: so it's a OLED display watch?
07:08 AM XXCoder: oled uses way too much power, so no
07:08 AM XXCoder: its special tft that uses riciously little power to keep displaying
07:08 AM XXCoder: uses little bit more power to change than normal lcd but holding screem it uses so little power
07:08 AM jthornton: I need to see what a tft is
07:08 AM XXCoder: that video shows it
07:09 AM jthornton: I've seen that before somewhere
07:09 AM jthornton: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/72522/differences-between-oled-led-lcd-and-tft-screens
07:10 AM XXCoder: yeah. what pebble uses is special tft though
07:10 AM XXCoder: uses something like few uA to hold display
07:11 AM jthornton: so this guy on the backyard chicken forum pm's me asking why his ardunio code won't work... I tell him I don't provide pm support for questions because no one else can benefit from my work answering a question
07:12 AM jthornton: so he starts a thread and posts his code and I reply with some example code that demonstrates how to get what he wants and he basically says I'll try it when I get a chance lol
07:12 AM jthornton: what a waste of my time...
07:13 AM XXCoder: geez lol
07:13 AM XXCoder: jee gonna get myself clean so I can sleep and return to work tomorrow lol
07:13 AM XXCoder: later for now
07:13 AM jthornton: night
07:29 AM XXCoder: back while fan drying lol
07:29 AM XXCoder: nearly 60% humidity in room so harder to dry
08:18 AM gregcnc: Anyone know why M2.6 thread exists along side M2.5?
08:20 AM jthornton: some weird clock or watch thread?
08:21 AM gregcnc: actually quite common, and standard metric threadform and pitch is the same, but I've never read about why it exists
09:27 AM dud3_l1n0x: what's here>>?
09:37 AM pink_vampire: linuxcnc irc channel
09:37 AM pink_vampire: dud3_l1n0x: ^
09:38 AM FinboySlick: the place where jthornton boasts about his Schaublin
09:45 AM dud3_l1n0x: what its capable of?
09:47 AM FinboySlick: It is limited only by your imagination and hardware.
09:48 AM FinboySlick: Though more seriously, can do quite a lot. What would you need it to do?
09:48 AM pink_vampire: dud3_l1n0x: linuxcnc is a linux based controller for CNC machines
09:50 AM dud3_l1n0x: very nice
10:00 AM pink_vampire: do you have a cnc machine?
10:19 AM * JT-Shop wonders why FinboySlick thinks I have a Schaublin?
10:19 AM Loetmichel: *GNAHHH* When will i ever learn? Just mounted the last 2.0mm tungsten carbide mill bit in the CNC... *reorder* lets hope the suppier delivers ballistic... :-)
10:19 AM gregcnc: lol
10:21 AM gregcnc: schaublin are not common in the US
10:21 AM FinboySlick: JT-Shop: Sorry got somewhat confused and tab completion did the rest.
10:21 AM JT-Shop: about like spell correction on dumb phones lol
10:23 AM FinboySlick: JT-Shop: Yeah, something like that, only it was a dumb keyboard operator.
10:35 AM * JT-Shop has a brazillion projects to finish so many I don't know where to start lol
10:54 AM fragalot: hi
10:57 AM gregcnc: there's the schaublin owner
10:58 AM fragalot: don't forget the deckel we're buying at work too
11:39 AM ziper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gMX_hR-RoM
11:41 AM gregcnc: "Sadly, I’ve heard that the drummer OD’d on WD40."
11:41 AM gregcnc: "Legit, the heaviest metal band"
11:45 AM FinboySlick: fragalot: You can't brag about that one, you don't own it.
11:55 AM fragalot: FinboySlick: DETAILS. :D
11:55 AM fragalot: FinboySlick: does it count if it's my signature on the purchase order?
11:56 AM FinboySlick: Only if it's also on the check.
11:56 AM fragalot: who still uses checks?
11:57 AM fragalot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gMX_hR-RoM -- they've been going for a while, but who'mever made them is a legend.
12:00 PM FinboySlick: fragalot: ziper just pasted that.
12:01 PM fragalot: that explains why it was randomly open in my browser >.>
12:01 PM * fragalot has finished 2 19hr workdays in a row - don't judge
12:02 PM ziper: lollll
12:02 PM FinboySlick: You can afford a Schaublin, you can afford my judgement.
12:02 PM FinboySlick: Especially since I give it for free.
12:31 PM CaptHindsight: unsaturated polyester
12:33 PM pink_vampire: https://www.ebay.com/itm/332844361370
12:40 PM roycroft: i haven't used a turbo encabulator since i was testing my prototype flux capacitor
12:41 PM pink_vampire: roycroft: https://www.oreillyauto.com/flux-capacitor?q=121g
12:45 PM CaptHindsight: what's the opposite/antonym of the noun "balloon" (non-balloon)?
12:45 PM roycroft: shrivel
12:45 PM roycroft: would be the verb
12:45 PM roycroft: for a noun, raisen? :)
12:46 PM roycroft: er, raisin
01:02 PM ziper: on a dual axis drive each motor gets its own controller, right
01:02 PM pink_vampire: correct
01:06 PM JT-Shop: hmm copper == $900 and aluminum == $375
01:06 PM pink_vampire: ??
01:07 PM JT-Shop: power for the new shop
01:08 PM CaptHindsight: winning yesterdays lottery odds ~300,000,000:1, what are the odds if you didn't buy a ticket?
01:08 PM JT-Shop: pretty slim...
01:08 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: 100% that you would not lose
01:08 PM JT-Shop: $450 for aluminum XHHW-2 wire with shipping
01:28 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: how many feet?
01:29 PM jthornton: 210'
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: ? Home Depot 500 ft delivered for $151
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-500-ft-2-Black-Stranded-AL-XHHW-Wire-11272207/204786553
01:32 PM CaptHindsight: #2 or 2/0?
01:32 PM jthornton: I could use #2 for the neutral but not for the load carrying wire
01:32 PM jthornton: 2/0 for load and #2 for neutral
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.wireandcableyourway.com/2-0-xhhw-2-aluminum-building-wire.html?
01:34 PM CaptHindsight: $0.69/ft for 2/0 aluminum
01:35 PM CaptHindsight: shipping is ~$30
01:36 PM JT-Shop: yea they are the most cost effective I've found... shipping is $70 for all three cables
01:36 PM JT-Shop: like I said $450 for the wire delivered to my door
01:37 PM CaptHindsight: ah 210 x 3
01:38 PM CaptHindsight: when copper proces are volatile it was difficult to quote service installations
01:39 PM CaptHindsight: proces/prices
01:56 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +vv by verne.freenode.net
01:56 PM c-log is now known as Guest42374
02:08 PM JT-Shop: gas stations only have a few days of gas on hand...
02:11 PM gloops: so long as the beer doesnt run out
02:26 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest17737
02:32 PM Tom_L: has anyone new shown up here in the last month?
02:32 PM Tom_L: seems the spammers have effectively throttled irc
02:35 PM JT-Shop: hard to tell they can't post till they figure out the secret
02:38 PM gloops: there have been a few, a lot just come, find a solution and go, they dont park
03:07 PM gloops: Winning lottery ticket sold in South Carolina for $1.5 billion jackpot
03:10 PM gloops: Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI)
03:10 PM gloops: DJI - DJI Real Time Price. Currency in USD
03:10 PM gloops: Add to watchlist
03:10 PM gloops: 24,583.42-608.01 (-2.41%)
03:14 PM methods_: so much winning
03:40 PM roycroft: i won the lottery again last night
03:41 PM roycroft: every time i don't buy a lottery ticket i'm money ahead vs. buying one, so every time there is a lottery drawing i win
03:42 PM XXCoder: I will buy a lottery ticket once I invent time machine
03:42 PM laminae_: Roy! just the person i was hoping to talk to!
03:42 PM laminae_: I did most of the mod this morning, you guys mind giving me some suggestions for improvement?
03:43 PM laminae_: Anyway, if you feel so inclined: https://imgur.com/a/ZnEnkDO
03:43 PM roycroft: i'm probably not the person you want to talk to
03:43 PM laminae_: Well, you've been helpful so far haha
03:43 PM roycroft: likely most anyone else on this channel would be more knowledgeable than me
03:44 PM laminae_: I ran into one huge problem, i accidentally imported the metric versions into cad and i have the the bullshi--- i mean imperial versions
03:44 PM laminae_: So the plates i made to put the y actuator on don't fit
03:44 PM laminae_: Those two cbeam extrusions are just to get me in a spot to cut new plates
03:45 PM laminae_: The biggest thing i could use direction on is the bottom of the frame
03:46 PM laminae_: Is it worth it to get a solid sheet (either alum or steel) and affix the extrusions to it? is there a more cost effective option?
03:48 PM laminae_: Really i'm already way overkill for my original intentions which was alum and cf but if it were a significant improvement i would be willing to throw time an energy at it. I also need to get the flood enclosure in there and i've decided this time that acrylic sucks and i don't want to mess with it
03:49 PM laminae_: SO i'm looking at taking a full sheet of 1/4 birch and loser cutting it to the tank dimensions and then fiber glassing all the seams and coating the whole thing in heavy epoxy resin
03:49 PM laminae_: Like those huge fish holding tanks
03:50 PM laminae_: So whatever solution i choose needs to leave me all that open space below the actuator to have a slope
03:52 PM laminae_: Anything at all you can suggest for improvement?
04:01 PM JT-Shop: for a flood enclosure it must enclose the entire machine... not sure why you want flood for a router?
04:02 PM XXCoder: nylon
04:04 PM XXCoder: seriously, nylon is pain in ass. need tons cooling to keep plastic from fusing to tool
04:06 PM JT-Shop: yuck nylon... morning XXCoder
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: liquid nitrogen is used when grinding nylon
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: heat + thermoplastics, similar issues
04:08 PM laminae_: Carbon plate
04:08 PM laminae_: pretty much the only reason
04:09 PM CaptHindsight: carbon plate or carbon fiber plate?
04:10 PM laminae_: woven carbon fiber plate
04:20 PM Deejay: gn8
04:54 PM gloops: carbonfibre for a water tank?
04:54 PM gloops: why not grp
04:55 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
07:53 PM ziper: what type of rotary tool is best for cutting foams
08:14 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
08:17 PM CaptHindsight: ziper: fool me once hah!
08:17 PM ziper: CaptHindsight, what
08:18 PM ziper: does it not matter so long as it spins fast as hell
08:18 PM CaptHindsight: all discussions of foam turn into being called names in broken English
08:20 PM ziper: not by me
08:22 PM ziper: im getting ready to order my parts. I think i'll cheap out on the motors, drives, pulleys, and the z axis
08:22 PM ziper: i can always upgrade those later
08:22 PM ziper: how much torque and rigidity do I really need for FOAM
08:24 PM CaptHindsight: make a Flmsy
08:25 PM infornography: lol
08:26 PM ziper: im basically building this at quarter scale https://www.instructables.com/id/Rino-Rout-Belt-Drive-Large-Format-CNC-Router/
08:31 PM CaptHindsight: someone gotta new MIG welder for xmas
08:32 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/oBkrA6cmEwE?t=91 what do you call those welds?
08:35 PM ziper: functional

08:45 PM SpeedEvil: It amuses me when ebay adds a helpful price/kg (0.58/kg)
08:47 PM _unreal_: last fucking time I'll never be fooled again
08:47 PM CaptHindsight: 'STOLLE'
08:47 PM _unreal_: just found out my @#$%@# dash cam looses ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of its settings every time it stays on and runs its battery down
08:47 PM _unreal_: the MAIN backup battery is also the settings battery
08:47 PM _unreal_: What a STUPID @#R%$ setup
08:48 PM CaptHindsight: just say FUCK don't be scared
08:48 PM _unreal_: had to do a HOWs my driving call today on some fucker that ran me off the road....
08:48 PM _unreal_: come to find out my dash cam for what ever reason didnt turn off and recorded ALLLLLLLL day long
08:49 PM _unreal_: and wiped out the video
08:49 PM _unreal_: What sucks is that I had to do a lot of driving at work today
08:49 PM _unreal_: so instead of it turning off and staying off it ran on battery for an hour then I'd drive.. ran on battery for 3 hours. then I'd drive ETC....
08:49 PM CaptHindsight: sounds like yah gots some deep seated hostility there
08:51 PM _unreal_: south florida full of POS Haitians and mexicans
08:51 PM _unreal_: most of which are illegal
08:52 PM CaptHindsight: maybe if was illegal to be ignorant and white while over 30 this country would be great
08:52 PM _unreal_: I just tossed an SD card reader and a cellphone to USB adapter in my car.... I'll never EVER be caught with out the ablity to rip a FU video from my dash cam again
08:53 PM _unreal_: huh?
08:53 PM _unreal_: read WHAT you typed and tell me you understand it.... from an english level I dont know what you just said
08:57 PM CaptHindsight: true dat
08:58 PM _unreal_: you been drinken?
08:58 PM _unreal_: I have and I dont feel anything I'm so annoyed
09:00 PM _unreal_: work has been driving me crazy... 90 % of the work I've been doing has been fixing other peoples fuck ups
09:01 PM ziper: sounds like your labor... is alienated
09:02 PM _unreal_: alot of mexicans
09:02 PM _unreal_: and there all very VERY stupid
09:03 PM _unreal_: when I say mexican I do mexico, peru, puerto rico ETC....... pick an area
09:03 PM _unreal_: do mean
09:04 PM _unreal_: its about time you can back
09:48 PM sliptoni`: Hey all. I've got a mill with 5i25/7i77 servo drive. I've been running machinekit sucessfully for a couple years but have had some problems recently so thought I'd try lcnc again. I'm trying to convert the configuration and get an error adding the estop_latch function
09:48 PM sliptoni` is now known as sliptonic
09:48 PM sliptonic: The estop_latch component loads into hal fine
09:49 PM CaptHindsight: sliptonic: post your .hal and config
09:49 PM sliptonic: but then HAL error function 'estop_latch.0' not found.
09:49 PM sliptonic: ok.
09:50 PM CaptHindsight: try the forum as well, I'm working on something else right now
09:53 PM sliptonic: Current config here: https://github.com/sliptonic/millstone/tree/lcnc
09:53 PM sliptonic: Ill post to forum too. Thanks
10:00 PM laminae_: Anyone have experience routing pbt for vacuum form bucks?
10:02 PM laminae_: I've been using mdf but i'm at a point where i have a buck i know i like and would like to produce something that i can get a lot of pulls off of
10:03 PM pink_vampire: someone know about sealed box with clear lid with hinges on the side?
10:07 PM {HD}: F! Haven’t fired up the CNC in a bit and forgot my linuxCNC password.
10:07 PM pink_vampire: just reset the password from grub
10:09 PM laminae_: That's assuming you remember your user id, if you don't you'll have to reset root password and log in form there
10:09 PM {HD}: Sounds easy enough I will look into that. I already walked away from the machine in disgust.
10:56 PM roycroft: and after you reset your password, install a password manager on your main workstation
10:56 PM roycroft: :)
