12:29 AM rue_mohr: anyone borred enough to try to find a dimentioned drawing of a 1" engine flange for me?
12:32 AM rue_mohr: b&S
12:48 AM rue_mohr: ok, now I need it, thanks anyhow
02:06 AM Deejay: moin
02:07 AM syyl: m
03:07 AM Loetmichel: maaan... some (french) customers... complaining that the engraving of the numbers on the (aluminium) seurity keypad on a PC we delivered is "a bit more bold" than on the old machines from 6++ years ago... they ALWAYS find something to complain about...:-(
03:09 AM MarcelineVQ: If that's a valid complaint I hope you charge a shitload of money for those things
03:11 AM Loetmichel: MarcelineVQ: IIRC about 8kEur per PC
03:11 AM Loetmichel: military stuff ;9
04:28 AM miss0r: hello o/
04:29 AM XXCoder: Loetmichel: thats funny
04:37 AM miss0r: Teflon chain guides.. meh. These things need to be brass to stand a chance on this application. I can see *someone* tried their best(not good enough) to repair this before I came along :)
04:42 AM XXCoder: hey
04:44 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: thats the culprit: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=16940&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- lower pic, middle keypad. Engraving V-bit was about 0,1mm "to deep"... they want the black lines to be not as wide.
04:45 AM XXCoder: engraving I always walk it in
04:45 AM XXCoder: .002" higher, engrave and see how much I need to go lower for it to look good
04:45 AM XXCoder: typically .002" or .0025" lower
04:45 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: the keypad enclosure is milled by a subcontractor
04:46 AM Loetmichel: we did nearly a 1000 of them back 6+ years
04:46 AM XXCoder: of entire keypads?
04:46 AM XXCoder: thats oretty lot but alum tool lasts forever basically
04:46 AM Loetmichel: i wouldnt do that with my little CNC 6040, especially not milling them out of a billet and not doing sheet metal folding ;)
04:47 AM Loetmichel: problem is that we only have a very few left from that order, the "dropouts" from the first one
04:48 AM Loetmichel: ordering half a dozen of them from that contractor now for the prototypes of the new PC series would cost nearly as much as the whole PC ,)
04:48 AM Loetmichel: of entire machines.
04:48 AM Loetmichel: s/machines/PCs
04:48 AM XXCoder: lot of changes in 6 years
04:49 AM XXCoder: 6 years ago I was still working in vend biz lol
04:49 AM Loetmichel: XXCoder: inside: yes
04:49 AM Loetmichel: same enclosure though
04:49 AM XXCoder: yeah sometimes standards are awesome
04:50 AM Loetmichel: its a new mainboard, a new cpu, a new chipset and so on. but the same keypad/PCMCIA slot for the crypto card and so on
04:50 AM Loetmichel: and the same PC encloure as back then
04:51 AM XXCoder: work they are considering changing my work shift from 3:15 pm to 1:45 am to 5:15 pm to 5:45 am 4 days
04:51 AM XXCoder: thats 4/12 dang
04:52 AM XXCoder: shop is very seriously understaffed
04:52 AM XXCoder: and lagging on some jobs
04:52 AM XXCoder: one moron got fired 3 weeks ago, and one guy got seriously hurt 2 weeks ago. that did not help.
04:53 AM XXCoder: coworkers many of em says they will leave if that is ordered and not asked
04:56 AM jthornton: morning
04:59 AM miss0r: mornin' jt
04:59 AM miss0r: The last parts for my retrofit, should get here today :D Then the build can realy get started :D
05:03 AM Jin|away is now known as Jin^eLD
05:03 AM Jin^eLD: mornin
05:03 AM jthornton: cool, make any progress with the configuration?
05:03 AM XXCoder: yo jt
05:03 AM miss0r: jthornton: I just barely looked at the configuration wizard last night. It seems pretty straight forward - for the most parts
05:03 AM XXCoder: oh yeah
05:03 AM XXCoder: jthornton: how goes your new linux packs?
05:03 AM XXCoder: linuxcnc utils
05:04 AM jthornton: just trying to get LinuxCNC installed on this new hard drive atm
05:04 AM jthornton: I reduced my code to check the active axes down to 3 lines using a list comprehension
05:10 AM jthornton: http://dpaste.com/2K400Q5
05:11 AM XXCoder: heh pretty hard to read
05:24 AM rmu|w: for i in range(9): getattr(self, 'axisCB_' + str(i)).setChecked(self.s.axis_mask & (1<<i))
05:25 AM XXCoder: rmu|w: not visiability issues lol
05:25 AM XXCoder: very tight code
05:25 AM XXCoder: oh nevermind you was saying a way to make it more unreadable and shorter
05:25 AM XXCoder: sorry lol
05:25 AM jthornton: yep
05:26 AM jthornton: it's readable once you understand the language
05:27 AM XXCoder: it is. just need more processing than simpler but longer code
05:27 AM XXCoder: is there reason to make it shorter if it still does same ops?
05:27 AM rmu|w: i was saying if you wanted to make the code shorter there is always a way to squeeze some characters out
05:33 AM XXCoder: thats why there is challenges
05:33 AM XXCoder: like that twitter length code ones
05:34 AM XXCoder: larger ones like must fit floppy drive
05:37 AM rmu|w: code should be as short as possible, but no shorter ;)
05:39 AM XXCoder: lol
05:43 AM jthornton: so yesterday I learned again if the result of a for loop is a list use a list comprehension instead
05:46 AM jthornton: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/4MDbjJ7vK2/
05:47 AM rmu|w: jeah, the original was obese.
05:53 AM XXCoder: ...
05:54 AM XXCoder: I dont think I like new firefox bookmarks creation dialog
06:03 AM miss0r: Whats wrong with it?
06:03 AM XXCoder: dunno but I guess its just something I gonna get used to
06:03 AM XXCoder: it just seemed a change for sake of change
06:04 AM miss0r: so theres nothing realy wrong with it, you just don't like change? :)
06:07 AM XXCoder: impression wasnt great
06:07 AM XXCoder: if its a improvement, it should be an improvement
06:07 AM miss0r: That makes sense :)
06:09 AM Jin^eLD: tell that to gnome3 people...
06:09 AM XXCoder: miss0r: theres one slight oddity, it shows picture of webisste for some strange reason
06:10 AM miss0r: You don't realy talk to gnome3 people. Its too much of an effort :)
06:10 AM XXCoder: dont I have entire window open? :P
06:10 AM miss0r: :]
06:10 AM Jin^eLD: I think I skipped several years of updates on my distro until MATE finally became ready and was included
06:29 AM jthornton: setting up a new pc for development is a pia
07:35 AM enleth: anyone in the area of Neosho, MO and interested in a perfect LinuxCNC retrofit machine?
07:36 AM enleth: there's a machinery dealer with a Bridgeport Series 1 MDI mill, I noticed it on a warehouse tour video made by Abom79, no idea what the price and condition is but if I were anywhere near, I'd be calling them to ask
07:37 AM enleth: I have the same mill, refitted with new servo drives and a Mesa card
07:40 AM jthornton: that's about 5 hours from me but I have a Series 1 with an Anilam conversion converted to LinuxCNC
07:40 AM enleth: jthornton: does it have ballscrews?
07:40 AM jthornton: mine? yes
07:41 AM jthornton: and servos
07:41 AM jthornton: the original conversion was to an Anilam 1100M
07:42 AM enleth: is the X servo mounted on the knee or the table?
07:43 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/shop/bp1/bp1.xhtml
07:44 AM jthornton: booting to the rt kernel klink
07:44 AM enleth: ouch
07:44 AM enleth: that servo sticking a mile off to the side
07:46 AM enleth: well that's not a CNC bridgeport, that's a refitted manual one
07:46 AM enleth: that Series 1 MDI is a CNC machine right off the assembly line, it makes a difference
07:49 AM jthornton: yea that worked
07:50 AM * jthornton has 11 minutes left
07:51 AM jthornton: to download everything
09:03 AM gregcnc: I'm surprised this isn't more common on servo turret lathes https://youtu.be/GcddvL4ZteI?t=1m31s
09:03 AM gregcnc: y axis interpolation
09:11 AM gregcnc: must come down to geometry
09:36 AM miss0r: gregcnc: Impressive
10:44 AM miss0r: fresh off the mill: https://imgur.com/a/q3TVpa5 those are d-sub 9, 15 & 50
10:44 AM miss0r: I'm off to a friends place. He has a sheet press, so I can bend it to shape :)
10:44 AM Vq: Nice
10:47 AM jdh: looks cool. I might have slotted the bolt holes
10:52 AM zeeshan: https://images11.palcdn.com/hlr-system/WebPhotos/34/343/3430/3430238.jpg
10:53 AM beachbumpete1: whaddahell izaat?
10:53 AM beachbumpete1: :)
10:53 AM jdh: cheap chinese vise
10:53 AM zeeshan: does anyone know why a standard drill vise has that half moon slot in it?
10:53 AM zeeshan: its really stupid?
10:53 AM zeeshan: parallel falls right into it?
10:54 AM jdh: clamp sideways?
10:54 AM beachbumpete1: chip clearance?
10:54 AM jdh: stress releif?
10:54 AM beachbumpete1: you are not gonna want to put your pretty polished parallel up against that nazty looking serrated jaw POS anyway no?
10:55 AM zeeshan: im giving some tlc to my drill press
10:55 AM zeeshan: and going through all the flaws
10:55 AM zeeshan: this one is a bit harder to fix!
10:55 AM zeeshan: mine doesnt have serrated jaws
10:55 AM beachbumpete1: buy a better vise?
10:55 AM zeeshan: im thinking that too
10:55 AM zeeshan: im thiking of using a standard milling vise on it
10:55 AM zeeshan: like a 4"
10:56 AM beachbumpete1: that would work nicely I think perhaps a CNC vise so you can flop it on its side too
10:56 AM beachbumpete1: just no easy way to bolt it down
10:58 AM zeeshan: i dont think ive ever bolted down my vise on the drill press hehe
10:58 AM zeeshan: pete is that you?
10:58 AM zeeshan: BEACHbum now eh
10:59 AM zeeshan: https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDUwWDgwMA==/z/aiQAAOSw4QdbmawS/$_59.JPG
10:59 AM zeeshan: look at that!
10:59 AM zeeshan: proper vise
10:59 AM zeeshan: just beat up
11:28 AM beachbumpete1: yeah man sorry I left to get lunch
11:54 AM jdh: next time, ask for a lunch pass
11:55 AM gregcnc: who was on hall monitor duty?
12:05 PM jdh: danimal
12:07 PM miss0r: There we go: all bend up :) https://imgur.com/a/XSr4N0o
12:08 PM jdh: that is a ton of DB's
12:08 PM miss0r: Yeah. Its for the retrofit project, I'm doing on my maho 500c
12:09 PM miss0r: I'm sorta doing a plug'n play swap; where the new controller just reuses all the cables that was plugged into the old one
12:09 PM miss0r: so, should the new one fail, I will be able to reinstall the old one in a few hours
12:09 PM miss0r: Thats the idea, anyway :)
12:22 PM * Tom_L missed lunch cause he didn't have a lunch pass
12:22 PM jdh: gotta wait for Danimal
12:27 PM Tom_L: gawd i haven't seen him in ages
12:28 PM Tom_L: wonder if he's still makin bike parts
12:48 PM gloops: nice intricate sanding and finishing of oak sign for a friday night....
01:37 PM gregcnc: impressive cnc crashes here https://youtu.be/0B6ZjKACXjM
01:51 PM jthornton: pretty quiet today
02:17 PM XXCoder: hy jthornton
02:17 PM jthornton: hey XXCoder we are in Farmington MO this weekend
02:17 PM XXCoder: I'd suggest making a image file once you finish setting up dev machine
02:18 PM XXCoder: that way next time you can just flash image rather than download and using bandwidth
02:18 PM jthornton: I have clonezilla :)
02:18 PM jthornton: I do all my downloading during free time 3am to 8am
02:18 PM XXCoder: theres free time? interesting
02:19 PM jthornton: yea unmetered between 3am and 8am
02:19 PM jthornton: and when I'm out of town I download a lot lol
02:19 PM XXCoder: nice :)
02:20 PM XXCoder: my phone its bit strange plan, $10 per gb till 6 gb then unmetered after it
02:20 PM XXCoder: I havwnt went over .5 gb though so its cheap plan
02:20 PM jthornton: that is an odd plan
02:20 PM XXCoder: google fi
02:21 PM XXCoder: https://fi.google.com/
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: it's too bad that we don't have the tech to get broadband to rural areas, just not enough bits to go around
02:22 PM XXCoder: thats why for some services goverment pay so people can have access, for example mail
02:22 PM XXCoder: sadly that is being cut
02:23 PM XXCoder: so are some transit options
02:23 PM XXCoder: both to more rural areas is money sink but people need access
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: https://broadbandnow.com/report/municipal-broadband-roadblocks/
02:27 PM XXCoder: yep, didnt want to into it because of politics
02:27 PM jthornton: I used to have a radio modem that worked well but some pecker head sued the company and made them take the tower down
02:27 PM XXCoder: you made your own tower?
02:27 PM XXCoder: if so, I have ideas...
02:28 PM XXCoder: what was lawsuit reason?
02:29 PM jthornton: lightning strikes on his house
02:30 PM jthornton: he claimed the tower attracted lightning lol
02:30 PM XXCoder: it does increase local area strikes but.. the effect drops off very fast
02:30 PM jthornton: I have a tower at the top of my property
02:32 PM XXCoder: well my idea is pretty simple
02:32 PM XXCoder: hide it in tree
02:34 PM jthornton: nothing to connect to anymore that isp is gone
02:35 PM jdh: start a rural mesh isp
02:36 PM jthornton: too many irons in the fire lol
02:37 PM jthornton: lol I just sent myself an email with a link I found
02:39 PM XXCoder: too bad
02:39 PM XXCoder: also, I was wondering if that guy was "wireless sensive"
02:39 PM XXCoder: total hogwash
02:40 PM jthornton: he was total hogwash, he moved right after winning the lawsuit lol
02:40 PM XXCoder: geez lol
02:40 PM gregcnc: wireless sensitive?
02:40 PM XXCoder: gregcnc: people who claim they are harmed by wifi and such
02:41 PM jthornton: they just need to put their tin foil hats on a be on their way lol
02:41 PM gregcnc: https://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-02/disconnected
02:41 PM XXCoder: heh I laugh each time I read about tin foil hats
02:41 PM XXCoder: know why?
02:42 PM jthornton: no clue
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: people around here were worried that solar farms ( a large series or solar cells, farm fields big) would soak up all the sunlight in the county
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: making it like night all day
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: or/of
02:43 PM XXCoder: lol well it does block all signals... except 2 freqences
02:43 PM XXCoder: both is goverment controlled in usa
02:43 PM XXCoder: HMMMMM lol
02:43 PM gregcnc: people around here want their property value to be as high as possible so they can bitch when the taxes increase
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: socialize the risk, privatize the profits, seems about right :)
02:45 PM * jthornton wonders if you can install a rt kernel in a vm virtual box???
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: it won't run real time well
02:46 PM XXCoder: install, but will it even work? lol
02:46 PM CaptHindsight: but it will run as host or guest
02:47 PM jthornton: hmm I just need the axis sim somehow you can install that on a generic kernel
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: pretty sure the sims will run on any kernel
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: 15 years ago i think thats how i found out
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: installed LCNC as a package and did not swap kernels
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: sims ran fine
02:53 PM jthornton: did you install from buildbot?
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: doubtful, didn't know about it then
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: likely just added the repos through whatever graphical package manager Ubuntu* used (an OS that resembles Linux with just about all the system files renamed and relocated, just for fun)
02:57 PM XXCoder: capt sure it can run any but will it be actually be realtime? I doubt it
02:59 PM jthornton: I don't need realtime to work on my program just a running axis
03:00 PM XXCoder: cool :) I had linuxcnc just directly installed on this pc, it worked well as gcode sim
03:02 PM jthornton: I found some dated information on the wiki that I can adapt to work on this laptop
03:03 PM XXCoder: erase the world! https://boingboing.net/2018/09/14/100-magic-eraser-sponges-for.html lol
03:03 PM XXCoder: so cheap
03:04 PM XXCoder: 100 magic erasers for $5 on amazon, but sold out lol
03:05 PM jthornton: lol
03:06 PM XXCoder: https://www.amazon.com/melamine-cleaner-bathroom-cleaning-10x6x2cm/dp/B07CH3QNWN/ found another if interested lol
03:06 PM jthornton: I need a Linux Laptop...
03:08 PM jdh: I bought a $200 Win10 Dell at bestbuy yesterday
03:09 PM jthornton: they closed the bestbuy in Cape a while back...
03:09 PM jthornton: trying to work in a VM is painful
03:09 PM XXCoder: how about computer recycle center
03:10 PM XXCoder: they always have cheap stuff, including pcs that can easily run an actual machine
03:10 PM jthornton: we do have one of those, I'll ask when I get back home
03:10 PM jthornton: I need something for traveling so a laptop
03:10 PM XXCoder: makes sense
03:12 PM MarcelineVQ: These days, and it varies by area, but these days a lot of recycling places don't stock things to buy and won't let you have anything anwyay because they're owned by big entities that don't stand to gain by you wasting time perusing their stuff or being a liability due to being in the way
03:12 PM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Notebook-i3-7100U-Processor-Keyboard/dp/B077RJD7TS/
03:12 PM jthornton: this place is a local place with one person
03:13 PM jthornton: I bought this computer to replace an old, slow laptop. The new one is no faster, and is often slower, than the old machine. It takes forever to open a photograph or a web browser. It stalls constantly. with the "not responding" message appearing more often than not. I have had HP laptops in the past and they worked well until they got old. But this one is a piece of crap.
03:14 PM jthornton: lol
03:14 PM XXCoder: geez
03:15 PM MarcelineVQ: I'll never own a laptop with less than an SSD again, what a painful era. Funny enough a lot of age-related laptop slowdown is heat sensors failing from corrosion, so the computer thinks it needs to throttle
03:15 PM MarcelineVQ: And often it's not the sensor even, but just a cap or resistor on the line
03:21 PM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Flagship-Notebook-Computer-i5-7200U/dp/B077RZCMR5/
03:22 PM jthornton: I don't care for windows 10 but if it's faster than this one I could install linux mint on this one
03:22 PM jthornton: I have to have a windows laptop for PLC programming in the field
03:24 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-jaw-independent-lathe-chuck/192654123223?
03:26 PM jthornton: you need that
03:26 PM gregcnc: respectable size the patina should add value and character
03:26 PM XXCoder: holy road rage crap https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/9f5c90/you_shall_not_pass/
03:27 PM XXCoder: apparently truck driver started it off but...
03:28 PM gloops: cant see that getting any bids at £1500
03:30 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVsfCNm12dw more complete video
03:30 PM XXCoder: its also at regular speed
03:31 PM gregcnc: xxcoder somewhat related to wifi https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/01/science/sonic-attack-cuba-microwave.html
03:31 PM XXCoder: gregcnc: thats bit old news they is figuring russian people did it now
03:32 PM gloops: blame the russians, for absolutely everything
03:32 PM gloops: or brexit
03:34 PM XXCoder: visual basic
03:37 PM XXCoder: lol https://imgur.com/8ODdi5s
03:38 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: those might be the next most wanted automotive accessory next to an EMP
03:39 PM gregcnc: emp sounds counterproductive
03:39 PM gregcnc: i mean, a road full of cars not going anywhere
03:40 PM XXCoder: if you were in front of those 2 cars what would you do
03:41 PM gregcnc: watch?
03:42 PM XXCoder: too bad guy didnt catch beginning of it
03:42 PM gregcnc: post it on yt and profit?
03:42 PM XXCoder: I wanna know what the fuck happened
03:43 PM gregcnc: typical I bought part of the road with this car/no you didnt
03:44 PM XXCoder: I had couple tests long while ago, first was few days of standard merges
03:44 PM XXCoder: second test was I just let many people merge
03:44 PM XXCoder: guess what? second one my transit time was half a minute longer
03:44 PM XXCoder: holy flipping crap I got late to work. not. lol
03:44 PM XXCoder: stress just arent woth
03:44 PM XXCoder: *worth it
03:45 PM XXCoder: I leave 30 minutes earlier than average transit time, and I have been late to work exactly once, and it was 5 minutes late.
03:45 PM XXCoder: I just read a book in my car till its time to enter
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: it costs me many minutes if I let people in front of me near intersections...
03:46 PM XXCoder: I was late because of completely abnormal traffic pattern, there was 2 car accients within my short transit lol
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: most times they keep me from making the green light
03:47 PM XXCoder: I bet you get stressed out "protecting" your position
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: on a 50 mile commute it can cost me 5-10 minutes
03:47 PM XXCoder: just leave 10 minutes early
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: no I just leave room for people to pass me on the left
03:48 PM gregcnc: merging from 4 to 1 lane after the toll for 290 south from 90 is fun right now
03:48 PM XXCoder: heh I still remember my old job transit
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: and do nobody favors, if they plan a turn too late, they end up just blocking a bunch of cars
03:49 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: yeah 90mph+ 30 miles out to the airport and then stop and go
03:49 PM XXCoder: it was in 5 sections of drive, and friday is always a nightmare. I cant tell you how much I read in my car, in freeway
03:49 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: some nights I get passed like I'm standing still, they must be well over 120mph
03:50 PM gregcnc: that's crazy, std is 80 now with 4 lanes
03:50 PM gregcnc: no police either
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: they pick their areas and only focus on those for a few hours
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: if you are in their area they stop one car after another
03:51 PM gregcnc: I wonder how much longer before they decide to issue tickets strictly on ipass times
03:51 PM CaptHindsight: if they aren't yeah 80+ for miles
03:51 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: have you encountered the new $70k toll machines?
03:51 PM gregcnc: i understand the deal was they would never do so when they implemented electronic tolls
03:52 PM gregcnc: not been driving much, maybe not?
03:52 PM CaptHindsight: no mute bujtton and "NO CHANGE GIVEN" at 110db
03:52 PM XXCoder: does it display anything?
03:53 PM CaptHindsight: yes, it's a touch screen with button on the side to choose what type of vehicle and number of axles
03:53 PM XXCoder: good, because it'd suck if it was voice onl
03:53 PM CaptHindsight: 2 levels of screen , cars and trucks
03:54 PM * jthornton has no tolls on dirt roads...
03:54 PM CaptHindsight: one of my tools is 90 cents and will gladly take any bills
03:54 PM CaptHindsight: "NO CHANGE GIVEN" after it counts the money...... slowly
03:54 PM CaptHindsight: tools /tolls
03:55 PM CaptHindsight: the old basket machines did not like pennies

05:10 PM jthornton: I have this one as well https://www.grizzly.com/products/30-Combination-3-in-1-Sheet-Metal-Machine/G4011
05:10 PM jthornton: pretty simple to make
05:10 PM miss0r: Nice. I down own a press brake any longer. I sold it, because I needed room for more machine tools :D

05:13 PM miss0r: the cabinet is *only* 200 mm deep
05:13 PM jthornton: I built the press brake to make these http://spyderstore.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=66&product_id=69
05:13 PM miss0r: I wanted to keep it as tight as possible. That way I can swing it out of the way, and allow more access to my stock shelfs; which are now pretty unaccessable behind the current controller
05:14 PM miss0r: nice
05:14 PM miss0r: Not a bad idea
05:14 PM jthornton: I hope make a bunch of them next month
