12:03 AM pink_vampire: i need to drill 21.5mm with the the #29 drill
12:07 AM pink_vampire: 3.4mm
12:09 AM Wolf_: no
12:09 AM Wolf_: ER collets only go smaller
12:09 AM pink_vampire: i have also 4mm
12:09 AM Wolf_: that may squeeze down to 3.4
12:11 AM pink_vampire: or maybe to drill it with my 2mm drill, and then expend it to 3.175 with the endmill (i can't find 1/8" drill)
12:11 AM fragalot: hi
12:12 AM pink_vampire: hi
12:12 AM fragalot: ER squeezes down up to 1mm by design
12:13 AM pink_vampire: I can;t find my 4mm er
12:13 AM pink_vampire: errrrrrr
12:13 AM pink_vampire: got it!!
12:15 AM Wolf_: 21mm blind hole for a #8 screw is a bad idea still =P
12:16 AM pink_vampire: the er11 4mm did it!
12:16 AM pink_vampire: it is holding the drill bit very nice
12:17 AM pink_vampire: I'm starting to like ER collets O_O
12:17 AM fragalot: lol
12:17 AM Wolf_: noob https://i.imgur.com/8lZSojO.jpg
12:18 AM fragalot: hurr durr, someone accidentally found that firefox stores passwords in plaintext
12:19 AM fragalot: Wolf_: where you put that 1/8 collet bothers me more than it should
12:19 AM Wolf_: lol
12:19 AM pink_vampire: i like the 3d printed holder!
12:20 AM Wolf_: trying to keep it away from the 5/16 that cost more then that whole set lol
12:20 AM pink_vampire: fragalot: hat do you mean????????????
12:21 AM pink_vampire: Wolf_: do you have a 3d printer?
12:21 AM Wolf_: yeah
12:21 AM Wolf_: doesnt everyone?
12:21 AM pink_vampire: i want to get one also
12:22 AM pink_vampire: i have the print head that i made
12:22 AM fragalot: pink_vampire: an exploit was found where it appears that firefox's vault can be read out as plaintext
12:22 AM pink_vampire: that is bad!
12:23 AM fragalot: Firefox passwords are stored encrypted in a SQLite database in the user's directory. But, by default, the encryption key is hardcoded in plain text in Firefox source code, and Firefox offers the user a tool to print these passwords.
12:23 AM fragalot: French version available on the site.
12:23 AM pink_vampire: how is opera?
12:24 AM fragalot: god knows, I don't use the browsers' password managers anyway
12:24 AM fragalot: never trusted them, never will :-)
12:24 AM pink_vampire: 123456
12:24 AM Wolf_: mine are all in my mac cloud account
12:25 AM pink_vampire: i just use 123456
12:25 AM Wolf_: but I also have 2 factor turned on everywhere it matters
12:25 AM fragalot: it is also possible to configure firefox to store passwords without notifying the user
12:25 AM fragalot: which, imho, is the icing on the cake
12:25 AM fragalot: :d
12:26 AM Wolf_: thats just dirty lol
12:28 AM Wolf_: hmm, I need to pick steppers for the plasma build… nema 23 … but how much torque
12:28 AM fragalot: 12.
12:28 AM fragalot: 12 Torque.
12:28 AM Wolf_: one more then 11?
12:29 AM Wolf_: =D
12:29 AM fragalot: always strive for more
12:30 AM Wolf_: 175oz-in
12:31 AM pink_vampire: do you have the frame?
12:32 AM Wolf_: yeah, big pile of open build extrusion
12:33 AM fragalot: oh then you don't want 12 torque
12:33 AM fragalot: you might twist the frame :P
12:33 AM Wolf_: haha long as the torch isnt dragging
12:34 AM Wolf_: should only need to drag the torch lead around
12:38 AM Wolf_: 1 to 0.6N-M I think should do
12:52 AM pink_vampire: i need help with the screw pattern
12:53 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/kqoRm3d.png
12:53 AM pink_vampire: i need 3 screws for the bottom and 2 for the sliding plate with the motor
12:54 AM Wolf_: and?
12:54 AM pink_vampire: how to arrange the screws?
12:54 AM Wolf_: 3 in the bottom 2 in the top?
12:54 AM pink_vampire: i think..
12:55 AM Wolf_: make holes, thread, ?
12:55 AM pink_vampire: but do you think it is look ok?
12:55 AM pink_vampire: the ones on the ends for the top plate
12:55 AM pink_vampire: and the 3 in the center for the bottom
12:56 AM Wolf_: works
12:56 AM pink_vampire: or maybe the first, and the one before the last for the top plate
12:58 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/Q8RZCQu.png VS https://i.imgur.com/lsGeIME.png
12:58 AM pink_vampire: Wolf_:
12:58 AM Wolf_: sure
12:58 AM pink_vampire: the yellow is the screws for the moving plate
12:58 AM Wolf_: which ever comes out better for the moving plate
12:58 AM pink_vampire: the same
12:59 AM Wolf_: then I would go symmetrical
12:59 AM Wolf_: harder to mess up the part
01:00 AM pink_vampire: the motor plate it is not symmetric anyway
01:02 AM pink_vampire: i think i have an idea
01:04 AM Wolf_: that sounds bad =P
01:28 AM arekm is now known as Guest14660
01:56 AM Deejay: moin
02:31 AM Loetmichel: hmm, can anybody translate me the german "über den eignen schatten springen" to english? no idea to what that corresponds in english...
02:33 AM Wolf_: super something something something spring?
02:38 AM Loetmichel: The german proverb means "going out of the comfort zone" ... i want to give my kudos to someone that just did that on a reddit comment. ... That one is usually downvoting everything i say and did actually upvote my comment this regardless of his hate for my attitude.
02:40 AM * Wolf_ knows no german for the most part…
02:44 AM rmu|w: https://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%BCber_den_eigenen_Schatten_springen
02:51 AM Loetmichel: rmu|w: i am searching for an english equivalent to said german expression. i do know that the german expression means ;)
02:54 AM rmu|w: Loetmichel: it suggests 3 english, 2 french and one dutch translation
02:54 AM Loetmichel: huß
02:55 AM Loetmichel: hu?
02:55 AM Wolf_: just post it in german lol
02:55 AM Loetmichel: must have overlooked that
02:55 AM rmu|w: but, as you want it to post to reddit, that would amount to "öl ins feuer giessen"
02:56 AM rmu|w: "kudos, finally you bit the bullet and upvoted a comment of mine"
03:02 AM Loetmichel: indeed. thanks, found it
03:03 AM Loetmichel: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/9d3vug/dear_fdev_please_consider_crime_system_of_fallout/e5hfbuu/?context=3
03:03 AM Loetmichel: hope that doesent sound to "uppity"
04:48 AM jthornton: morning
04:50 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton
04:50 AM XXCoder: \just found this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Mini-Phone-AIEK-AEKU-C6-Color-Screen-PK-M5-Cell-Phone-Ultra-Thin-Children-Mobile/32754290671.html lol
04:50 AM XXCoder: made me laugh
04:56 AM jthornton: is it a real phone?
04:56 AM XXCoder: apparently.
04:56 AM XXCoder: gsm phones can be really tiny now.
04:57 AM XXCoder: I then looked for android phone, and there is ones smaller than credit card!
04:57 AM jthornton: seems the ruskies like it
04:57 AM XXCoder: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Super-mini-smartphone-Android-smart-phone-original-SOYES-7S-6S-Quad-Core-1GB-8GB-5-0M/32870671166.html
04:58 AM XXCoder: that might be great for embedding into say car something
05:16 AM jthornton: geez it's 73°F now at 5:15am an the high is 84°F for the day
05:18 AM XXCoder: 74f on thurs
05:18 AM XXCoder: sunday last 70s day then 60s
05:19 AM XXCoder: finally. its one of dryest washington weather this year
05:19 AM XXCoder: summer, usually pretty dry, was bone dry
05:20 AM jthornton: we had a really dry spell that killed some trees on my property
05:23 AM XXCoder: 4 months, 2 days of mist and tiny brief rains, one actual rain that lasted for little bit
05:23 AM XXCoder: last one helped clear out last of ash and smoke
05:26 AM jthornton: we have a chance of rain through Sunday
05:27 AM XXCoder: same
05:27 AM XXCoder: supposely this year winter will be one of worse ones
05:33 AM miss0r: Any of you guys know how to properly remove the motor from a biax 7/ES ?
05:33 AM XXCoder: yeah hammer. lots hammers
05:33 AM XXCoder: jk
05:34 AM miss0r: i know :]
05:34 AM XXCoder: stop! it's hammer time
05:35 AM miss0r: I have something snagged in the motor.. Its like turning a pepper mill with only a few peppers left in it
05:35 AM miss0r: I'm no expert on biax motors, but I think this is a bad sign :)
05:36 AM jthornton: tannerite maybe
05:36 AM miss0r: ?
05:37 AM miss0r: jthornton: The package you sent me *SHOULD* be available for pickup at the postoffice later :)
05:38 AM jthornton: cool
05:39 AM jthornton: how in the hell did I use .6GB of data yesterday I did not download anything... goes to check wifes phone to see if wifi is on
05:40 AM jthornton: https://tannerite.com/
05:41 AM XXCoder: dang thats a lot of data
05:41 AM XXCoder: I use .5 gb a month
05:41 AM miss0r: wtf?
05:41 AM miss0r: I use 10gb+/month
05:41 AM XXCoder: I use way more at home, but it doesnt count as cellular data.
05:42 AM jthornton: yea I have 10GB a month limit on satellite
05:42 AM Tom_L: 72°F Hi 75
05:42 AM Tom_L: the latter part is nice
05:43 AM miss0r: damnit. I can't figure out how to detach this motor from the gearbox.
05:43 AM miss0r: I need to get in there and have a look what is up
05:44 AM jthornton: is the shaft stuck?
05:45 AM miss0r: jthornton: Its not stuck. but when I turn the shaft by hands I can feel theres something in there thats not supposed to. i.e. pepper mill with only a few peppers left, that once in a while snags
05:46 AM miss0r: so, I can get it to get very tight. Tighter than this 180watt motor can turn, anyway
05:47 AM jthornton: odd for sure
06:07 AM miss0r: syyl: you around?
06:08 AM miss0r: I could've just looked at the list.. he is not :)
06:21 AM miss0r: Turns out I just needed to be violent :)
06:23 AM jthornton: got it apart then?
06:24 AM miss0r: yep
07:29 AM robotustra: morning
08:03 AM miss0r: almost done refurbishing this biax. not much work needed to be honnest. Replace the brushes, clean out everything (motor included) replace all the hardened up grease. The only time consumer on this particular one is touching up the sliding surfaces in the buisness end.
08:03 AM miss0r: syyl: Where were you earlier, when I needed some advice on how to remove the motor from a biax :)
08:03 AM syyl: haha
08:03 AM syyl: i dont own a biax, you know? :D
08:04 AM miss0r: I assumed one of your experience with the finer arts of scraping, would just universally know! :)
08:04 AM syyl: i would go all medival on it
08:04 AM syyl: remove all screws and hit it until it opens up
08:04 AM miss0r: well
08:04 AM syyl: thats my usual approach for powertools anyway
08:05 AM miss0r: https://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/attachments/f83/137884d1430003099-7el-motor-disassembly-img_0013.jpg
08:05 AM miss0r: (not my model, a picture from online)
08:05 AM miss0r: almost the same. It turns out that the 'shiny' part in the middle is a huge retainer nut. I assumed that it was, but was afraid of excerting too much force on it.
08:05 AM miss0r: I ended up using a 1meter wrench. Then it came loose :D
08:06 AM * miss0r has his heart in his throat at the time
08:06 AM syyl: heh, perfect
08:06 AM syyl: didnt know that
08:07 AM miss0r: Me neither. But looking at the few pictures I could find of it online, where it was taken apart, that was the only thing that made sense
08:07 AM miss0r: I am a bit dissapointed in you, for not knowing, though ;)
08:08 AM syyl: ;)
08:08 AM syyl: thats ok
08:08 AM syyl: i am just your average hack
08:09 AM miss0r: oh, by the way. I was at a large machine shop earlier today. They had your picture on the wall, with a text "Good, is not good enough". hehe. I spoke to a guy about it, and he asked me to say hello ;)
08:09 AM syyl: good sense of humor
08:09 AM syyl: we both know there would be a photo of tom lipton ;)
08:09 AM miss0r: that would be fitting :)
08:10 AM miss0r: apparently your main danish fan base is located at that machine shop.
08:10 AM syyl: Oo
08:10 AM syyl: thats weird
08:10 AM syyl: :D
08:10 AM miss0r: well, they have to be *somewhere* I guess :)
08:11 AM syyl: most people are more like
08:11 AM syyl: "i hope i shuts the f up soon.."
08:11 AM syyl: ;)
08:11 AM miss0r: hehe
08:12 AM miss0r: Nice place though. I service their machinery. They range all the way from cutting edge wire EDM to a 1941 gear hobber
08:12 AM syyl: very cool
08:12 AM syyl: i like shops that have a large range of machines
08:12 AM syyl: not just - for example - all 5 axis mills
08:12 AM miss0r: yeah, they do. but they *ONLY* make gears
08:12 AM miss0r: and alot of them :)
08:13 AM syyl: :)
08:13 AM miss0r: This month they have to send out 1800units, if I remember correctly. and they are only like 15 people
08:13 AM miss0r: plus a handfull working the office
08:14 AM syyl: nice
08:14 AM syyl: :)
08:14 AM miss0r: I guess. I would hang myself if I had to more than 100 parts of something
08:14 AM miss0r: I like doing oneoffs
08:14 AM syyl: i love small runs
08:14 AM syyl: 1-10 parts
08:15 AM miss0r: Indeed
08:15 AM syyl: but i have done my fair share of large runs - 1000...10000
08:15 AM miss0r: I don't mind having just enough parts of one kind to do, that it makes sense to optimise the process. more than that.. no thanks
08:15 AM miss0r: damn.. I would fall asleep on the job
08:15 AM syyl: thats why we have cnc ;)
08:16 AM miss0r: sure... but some poor SOB still needs to attend it.
08:16 AM miss0r: unless you have a robot to do that for'ya
08:16 AM miss0r: Not exactly my shop standard :D
08:16 AM syyl: generally that sob is myself
08:16 AM syyl: ;)
08:17 AM syyl: at work, i do all myself - cad/cam, stock prep, machining, inspection
08:17 AM syyl: ...
08:17 AM miss0r: well.. that is better. At the shop I was at today, theres a guy, sitting ALL DAY looking into a cnc lathe
08:18 AM miss0r: He inserts a workpiece, presses run and waits to be able to extract it.
08:18 AM miss0r: that is _all_ he does
08:18 AM syyl: yeah
08:18 AM gregcnc: did you ask him what he'd rather be doing?
08:18 AM syyl: not my cup of tea
08:18 AM miss0r: nor me
08:18 AM syyl: i know a lot of people that dont mind that kind of work
08:18 AM miss0r: gregcnc: I didn't. He was reading a book, so I didn't want to interrups.
08:19 AM gregcnc: some people are happy with that
08:19 AM miss0r: Yeah. He probally liked it - I'm just saying: its not for me
08:19 AM syyl: i would hang myself
08:19 AM miss0r: get your own phrase; "drown myself" is still free ;)
08:20 AM gregcnc: short runs are fun if you can make money
08:21 AM miss0r: almost done handstoning this sliding surface... in hindsight, I would've saved some time, had I put it in the surface grinder.
08:22 AM miss0r: gregcnc: Sure. That is what I am always hoping to get here. But 80% of what I do is repairing machinery. (I don't mind that either) :)
08:22 AM robotustra: miss0r, handstoning for deburring?
08:23 AM miss0r: robotustra: I'm taking out a little wear in the surface here. not realy deburring
08:23 AM robotustra: is it precise machine?
08:24 AM miss0r: robotustra: not exactly. Its the two small sliding surfaces, the sledge tracks back and forth on, on an old biax scraper
08:25 AM syyl: one offs that you can make money off are fun, gregcnc :D
08:26 AM robotustra: miss0r, do you do scraping too?
08:26 AM miss0r: robotustra: I do hand scraping. I just bought this biax. So I have no clue about it.
08:27 AM gregcnc: syyl, sure, I do that. It's not as fun when the parts challenge the limits of your equipment
08:27 AM robotustra: I also did hand scraping, and grinder scraping as well
08:28 AM miss0r: robotustra: grinder scraping? making odd patterns with a die grinder?
08:28 AM syyl: reworking hardened ways with a die grinder?
08:28 AM syyl: i have seen that a few times
08:28 AM robotustra: no, just regular disk
08:28 AM syyl: seems to work ok
08:28 AM robotustra: slight toches
08:28 AM robotustra: touches*
08:29 AM miss0r: syyl: Speaking of one offs: first picture) what the client presented me with. second and third picture) What I handed him when he got here, as a joke. Rest) what I actualy made
08:30 AM miss0r: I just like joking about with clients that hand over drawings like that
08:30 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/7fpYf6A after grinder scraping and before hand scraping
08:32 AM miss0r: I guess that looks alright.
08:32 AM robotustra: yep
08:32 AM miss0r: the way you do it there; could you not easily have replaced that first step with a surface grinder? and just handscraped it from there?
08:32 AM robotustra: I don't have any surface grinder :)
08:33 AM miss0r: but assuming you had?
08:33 AM robotustra: never
08:33 AM robotustra: never had before
08:34 AM robotustra: if I had a surface grinder I would never do hand scraping
08:34 AM miss0r: o.^
08:34 AM miss0r: No need for stuff to be realy flat?
08:35 AM gregcnc: syyl i was happy to see RR's last post. I was thinking that would be the ideal way to achieve what he wanted with that plate
08:36 AM robotustra: well, after I did some hand scraping, I can say that I can do really flat surface if I need one
08:36 AM robotustra: it was good experience
08:37 AM robotustra: I can do even metal mirrors now
08:37 AM syyl: i ground yesterday everything that i can reach on the schaublin parts :D
08:37 AM syyl: http://gtwr.de/div/pro_schaublin102_aug_010.jpg
08:37 AM miss0r: :] and flakes it afterwards?
08:37 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/klbZyVV
08:38 AM syyl: no, i scraped it properly to 30..35ppi
08:38 AM syyl: http://gtwr.de/div/pro_schaublin102_aug_011.jpg
08:38 AM miss0r: syyl: good man :) It looks good
08:38 AM syyl: http://gtwr.de/div/pro_schaublin102_aug_012.jpg
08:38 AM miss0r: robotustra: What am I looking at? :S
08:38 AM robotustra: dovetail of 50 degree?
08:38 AM syyl: its 50° yes
08:39 AM robotustra: semifinished metal mirror with a lot of scratches
08:39 AM robotustra: I was lazy to finish it
08:39 AM robotustra: I thought that angle is about 55
08:39 AM robotustra: or it depends?
08:40 AM syyl: depends on the manufacturer
08:40 AM syyl: schaublin has 50°
08:41 AM syyl: at least on the 70 and 102 lathes
08:41 AM syyl: most chinese machines i encountered are 60°
08:41 AM robotustra: syyl, did you make hand scraping of the base?
08:42 AM syyl: naa, all powerscraped
08:42 AM robotustra: russians are 55°
08:43 AM robotustra: scraping pattern looks very nice
08:43 AM syyl: thanks
08:47 AM robotustra: ok, I go back to my gui design https://imgur.com/mzuLNKg
08:48 AM gregcnc: what kind of lathe are you working on?
08:49 AM robotustra: my own design
08:49 AM gregcnc: oh that's right
08:49 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/AOtnxMw
08:50 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/9o1FHsR
08:50 AM robotustra: https://imgur.com/73STFfW

08:51 AM gregcnc: what will spindle speed be with that much reduction?
08:51 AM robotustra: 0-24000
08:52 AM robotustra: I reduce 8 times
08:52 AM gregcnc: i can hear the belts from here
08:52 AM robotustra: I'll see
08:53 AM gregcnc: 24,000? china spindle or something else
08:53 AM robotustra: yes
08:53 AM gregcnc: so starting at something like 6-8krpm min
08:53 AM robotustra: I don't think I'll run it at this rpms
10:47 AM miss0r: JT-Shop: The package got here in one piece. Thanks :)
10:50 AM JT-Shop: yippie
10:50 AM JT-Shop: enjoy
10:53 AM miss0r: JT-Shop: A quick question if you have a second:
10:53 AM miss0r: How much current can the outputs handle?
10:57 AM JT-Shop: dunno, I'd have to look it up in the manual
10:58 AM miss0r: never mind :) I'll do that myself ;)
10:58 AM miss0r: Back into the house
10:58 AM fragalot: 'sup
11:07 AM Deejay: re
11:08 AM pink_vampire: hi
11:56 AM hazzy-dev: JT-Shop: Your very own Billy Long does the auction chant in congress xD: https://youtu.be/WolVEMFbUcs
12:08 PM JT-Shop: hazzy-dev: I'm out of bandwidth lol
12:08 PM fragalot: JT-Shop: are you, or is your provider simply throttling because they can?
12:09 PM JT-Shop: satellite
12:09 PM fragalot: so both? :D
12:10 PM JT-Shop: I have a 10GB plan when I exceed that then they throttle me down to a crawl lol
12:11 PM miss0r|office2: fragalot: I got the scraper
12:12 PM fragalot: miss0r|office2: have you tried it yet? :D
12:12 PM miss0r|office2: yeah.. it didn't realy work :)
12:12 PM miss0r|office2: I replaced the brushes
12:12 PM fragalot: did you try it after replacing that brush I told you abt?
12:12 PM miss0r|office2: and it wouldn't quite turn
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: So, I took it apart, cleaned, greases everything
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: then it worked some... :)
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: turns out there were gulling on one of the sliding surfaces up front
12:13 PM fragalot: ouch
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: So, I stoned them nice and flat & ajusted them again
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: so, NOW it would seem it is working
12:13 PM miss0r|office2: :)
12:13 PM fragalot: sweet
12:14 PM miss0r|office2: the package I sent you has, apparently, left Denmark. But not been scanned in Belgium yet... so I've had GLS look into it...
12:15 PM fragalot: I'm sure it will turn up eventually
12:15 PM * fragalot has not had very good experiences with shipments in general lately
12:15 PM miss0r|office2: In a landfill, build with unclaimed shipments
12:15 PM miss0r|office2: Me neither
12:17 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest3272
12:17 PM fragalot: wondering if the spares for it have shipped yet
12:19 PM miss0r|office2: does it even matter ? :) We both know this parcel will take a tour of europe before turning up in sweden, with your luck that is
12:20 PM fragalot: :D
12:33 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW_kF85Q-lY do they make one for nuts?
12:34 PM pink_vampire: CaptHindsight: amazing!
12:35 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: reminds me of a towel tool for woodworking
12:35 PM CaptHindsight: what if you only have 25-100mm axial clearance at the end of the thread?
12:35 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: 100mm == right angle head
12:35 PM fragalot: 25mm = smaller right angle head
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, where's the right angle cutter?
12:36 PM fragalot: it's a 1/4" hex
12:36 PM CaptHindsight: I never strip threads that are easy to repair
12:36 PM fragalot: plenty of square angle heads for drill sout there
12:37 PM CaptHindsight: they are usually out of sight where you can only feel them with your finger tips
12:37 PM fragalot: out of sight, out of mind. stop worrying :)
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: true, any bolts i can't reach i don't bother tightening anyway
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: why cars use spare bolts and nuts
12:54 PM pink_vampire: the servo belt drive design is finished
12:55 PM gloops: post pic for expert critique
12:56 PM pink_vampire: i have 4 screws to add to the assambly
12:56 PM fragalot: no time
12:56 PM fragalot: post pics first
12:56 PM fragalot: :D
12:56 PM miss0r|office2: hehe
12:59 PM pink_vampire: DONE!
01:00 PM pink_vampire: saving take too much time...
01:02 PM pink_vampire: nice!!
01:03 PM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/liciH68.png
01:05 PM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/SKMHTqt.png
01:05 PM pink_vampire: gloops: fragalot miss0r XXCoder
01:05 PM pink_vampire: Wolf_:
01:09 PM gloops: looks fine
01:09 PM gloops: im am curious though - why not have the motor mounted on the same plate as the pulley
01:11 PM gloops: also - belt tensioning?
01:17 PM gregcnc: Red is g10?
01:18 PM pink_vampire: gloops: the motor have some bump on it, and i had some adapter plate from the conversion kit, that make the motor flash
01:21 PM Tom_L: i see no adjustment
01:21 PM gloops: how do you get the belt over the motor pulley?
01:22 PM pink_vampire: Tom_L: look closely
01:23 PM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/tB6s03l.png?1
01:23 PM pink_vampire: the motor bump
01:23 PM Tom_L: just a normal mount
01:23 PM pink_vampire: Tom_L: there is mini plates that act as washers
01:24 PM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/CP7B57y.png
01:25 PM pink_vampire: the washer plate https://i.imgur.com/xT0rnQx.png
01:26 PM gloops: very good, just checking
01:26 PM pink_vampire: gloops: you tare the 4 top screws out, and you get full access to the pulley
01:28 PM pink_vampire: I have to go get something to support my body
01:28 PM gloops: well, suppose it depends on the machine, i didnt want the motors sticking out the end of the machine, i mounted them to run with the ballscrews, with only the pulleys on the outside
01:29 PM pink_vampire: it is a spindle
01:32 PM gloops: https://hotbottles.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/chassis-pilot-4.png
01:33 PM pink_vampire: there is mo way you can do that
01:33 PM pink_vampire: the Z axis rails in on the back
01:34 PM fragalot: should have gotten a hollow servo spindle
01:34 PM * fragalot nods
01:34 PM pink_vampire: the full head https://i.imgur.com/87G5Jmq.png
01:34 PM miss0r: You still can?
01:34 PM gloops: pink_vampire that explains it then
01:34 PM fragalot: pink_vampire: it 'l work great :)
01:35 PM fragalot: don't forget to make a nice belt cover so your hair doesn't get caught in it
01:35 PM pink_vampire: black acrylic or something..
01:35 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Belt_Guard/Belt_Guard.jpg
01:36 PM Tom_L: tin
01:36 PM pink_vampire: yeah..
01:36 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Belt_Guard/Belt_Guard3.jpg
01:36 PM pink_vampire: also an option
01:36 PM gloops: or wood
01:36 PM miss0r: i'm thinking leopard print
01:36 PM fragalot: Tom_L: jesus what did you do to scratch that up that badly? :D
01:37 PM Tom_L: sander
01:37 PM pink_vampire: I will just cover it with some duct tape and call it good enough
01:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Paint/Paint3.jpg
01:37 PM gregcnc: #9 road gravel belt?
01:37 PM Tom_L: it's all pretty now
01:37 PM Tom_L: 36 iirc :D
01:38 PM gloops: my walker turner has a wood pulley cover, all curved and domed - very noce
01:38 PM fragalot: :P
01:38 PM gloops: nice
01:41 PM miss0r: fragalot: I think the box you send me is so nice, i will use it to store the biax in :)
01:42 PM fragalot: miss0r: I did consider making proper cut-outs for it & adding hinges :P
01:42 PM miss0r: You could've added some hinges to it - saving me the trouble
01:43 PM miss0r: sadly, the box I sent you is not quite as nice.. but again - it was cut with a jigsaw.
01:43 PM miss0r: But I did use glue.
01:43 PM fragalot: :D
01:44 PM miss0r: the one you made was clearly cut with a table saw
01:44 PM fragalot: even so the cuts weren't very straight
01:45 PM fragalot: I think my jigsaw is more accurate than the table saw is
01:45 PM fragalot: (and i'm not joking)
01:45 PM fragalot: also, a bit of history
01:45 PM fragalot: the box is made out of schaublin ramp part s:D
01:45 PM miss0r: if I found a table saw at the side of the road, that fell of a speeding truck.. and was run over by another truck afterwards, it would still be more straight than my jigsaw
01:46 PM miss0r: Priceless artifact :)
01:46 PM fragalot: good news! I have exactly that as a spare in my attic
01:46 PM fragalot: got it from aldi 6 years ago
01:46 PM miss0r: what ? a craptacular table saw?
01:46 PM fragalot: yea
01:46 PM miss0r: hehe
01:47 PM fragalot: never got the blade to stop wobbling
01:47 PM fragalot: so i bought a bosch
01:47 PM fragalot: which has a worse wobble
01:47 PM miss0r: When we moved into this house, there were alot of tools left by the previous owners. amongst other things; A _VERY_NICE_ home made tablesaw
01:47 PM fragalot: and an embossed table that they flattened with a handheld belt sander
01:47 PM miss0r: I gave it to my neighbor.
01:47 PM miss0r: hehe
01:47 PM miss0r: You gotta love mass produced crap
01:47 PM fragalot: (P.S. if you want a really nice jigsaw, bosch GST 160 CE is a FANTASTIC one)
01:48 PM fragalot: really opened my eyes compared to any previous one I've owned/used
01:48 PM miss0r: Theres alot of tools on my list, before I get to a tablesaw. Neither of which I have room to fit in
01:48 PM fragalot: I'm actually debating whether it's worth keeping the table saw
01:49 PM miss0r: also, I forgot to mention, I replaced the rear bearing in the motor on the biax.
01:49 PM fragalot: because i've got a track saw & precision dogs in my workbench
01:49 PM miss0r: b..but.. How will you send me nice crates from now on, if you let it go ? :D
01:49 PM fragalot: tracksaw, I just said :D
01:49 PM miss0r: yeah - I was typing
01:49 PM syyl: tracksaw <3
01:50 PM miss0r: if I want to cut something realy straight, I typically let someone else do it
01:50 PM fragalot: syyl: they're really nice when combined with a workbench that you've attacked with a parf dog system :D
01:50 PM syyl: good idea
01:50 PM syyl: i have the festool one
01:50 PM syyl: i think mine cut more aluminium and plastic than wood in its life
01:50 PM fragalot: I've got the big dewalt because it was easier to find replacement blades
01:50 PM fragalot: haha
01:51 PM syyl: :D
01:51 PM fragalot: also, the dewalt works great for trimming the bottom off of doors without having to take the door off
01:51 PM syyl: dewalt is not very common here
01:51 PM syyl: not many stores stock them
01:51 PM miss0r: funny... so Germany is bosch land?
01:51 PM fragalot: that's the nice thing about the dewalt
01:51 PM syyl: we see tons of makita, obviously bosch and festool
01:51 PM fragalot: it uses /STANDARD/ sized bladezs
01:52 PM * fragalot blankly stares at his z
01:52 PM miss0r: Here in Denmark, you can get DeWalt in every corner shop basically
01:52 PM syyl: thats makita here
01:52 PM syyl: or bosch green
01:52 PM miss0r: I bought a Dewalt DCD791 cordless drill. Man I love that brushless motor it has
01:53 PM fragalot: you can't find anything other than black&decker, bosch green, or that crappy yellow brand that's now rebranded as green or grey
01:53 PM miss0r: It is almost as good as the hilti I used to have
01:53 PM syyl: ha, we have hilti cordless at work
01:53 PM fragalot: if you want a quality tool you need to go to a professional reseller and get told they won't sell because you have no VAT number
01:53 PM syyl: they will spin you round when the drill gets stuck :D
01:53 PM miss0r: yeah
01:53 PM fragalot: syyl: hehe yeah
01:53 PM miss0r: I had a 22volt hilti 'something' cordless drill. That was a beast.
01:54 PM miss0r: But I've realy come to like this dewalt, mainly because it is so compact
01:54 PM fragalot: I've actually broken the 36V blue bosch drills a few times because they're too torquey
01:54 PM syyl: for at home
01:54 PM syyl: i got rid of all the big cordless :D
01:54 PM syyl: i have two of those tiny 7,2V ones
01:54 PM syyl: and they do everything around the house that i want them to
01:54 PM miss0r: anything below 15volts are childrens toys
01:54 PM miss0r: :)
01:54 PM fragalot: lol
01:54 PM fragalot: you'd be surprised actually, miss0r
01:55 PM miss0r: Yeah, I know. cordless drills have come a long way the past decade
01:55 PM fragalot: the 12V dewalts are super nice if you need to work overhead all day long
01:55 PM syyl: oh sorry its 10,8
01:55 PM syyl: not 7,2 :D
01:55 PM miss0r: syyl: sorry, you still don't pass the bar
01:55 PM syyl: https://www.amazon.de/Bosch-Professional-Akkuschrauber-GSR-Schrauben-%C3%98/dp/B015WGDX6E
01:55 PM syyl: that one
01:55 PM syyl: i dont need more cordless drill in my life :D
01:55 PM fragalot: we get through about 2 of those a year at work
01:56 PM syyl: do you mix concrete with them?!
01:56 PM miss0r: I bought this one: https://www.prishammeren.dk/shop/dewalt-dcd791-bore-6022p.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwoMPcBRAWEiwAiAqZh7SZvQtWMNFK5cmlnp3GpT_yBWSWSlUBh48P_T68Nt1R8THM6TlCghoCrs8QAvD_BwE
01:56 PM fragalot: they're maily abused to drill stainless, but the operator's wrists can't handle a proper sized one
01:56 PM syyl: :D
01:57 PM fragalot: the main workhorses are beefy bruschless makita's
01:57 PM miss0r: syyl: of course! you need a cordless drill that can handle the occasional concrete mix. (not joking) :)
01:57 PM fragalot: which last about 2 years :P
01:57 PM syyl: i have corded drills to abuse for that ;)
01:57 PM syyl: absolutely want a mag drill
01:57 PM syyl: even as i dont have real use for it
01:57 PM syyl: i dont do any heavy fab work..
01:58 PM fragalot: syyl: go one further and make a mag EDM like miss0r
01:58 PM miss0r: The hilti I used to have; when you "pulled the trigger" the machine would twist in your wrist. Even when you knew it would try, you could not hold it still(drilling air)
01:58 PM fragalot: miss0r: that's what you get for using obsolete tools that have poor speed control
01:59 PM miss0r: I've actualy once been thrown from a ladder, trying to drill a 110mm hole in a wooden ceiling for a ventilation hole
01:59 PM miss0r: a 110mm cup drill, catching :D
01:59 PM miss0r: Not my proudest moment.
01:59 PM fragalot: i've had something similar happen drilling a 60mm through-hole through a 40cm thick oak beam
01:59 PM fragalot: except I stayed on & the drill chuck exploded and the body split in half
01:59 PM fragalot: ._.
02:00 PM miss0r: :D
02:01 PM fragalot: so anyway
02:01 PM miss0r: luckily for me it was only a 5 step ladder(the looking like an A, where the horisontal line is a chain/strap). I almost did half a turn before letting go of the machine, and falling down
02:01 PM fragalot: workbenches: http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=75354&cat=51
02:01 PM fragalot: that combined with a track saw is quite neat.
02:01 PM fragalot: far more accurate than my table saw too
02:02 PM miss0r: well, I basically frown upon doing wood work inside the shop
02:02 PM miss0r: That dust just gets everywhere!
02:02 PM fragalot: yup
02:02 PM miss0r: its like cast iron, only not as black.
02:02 PM miss0r: but it floats more!
02:02 PM fragalot: oh but it does get black
02:03 PM miss0r: all in good time
02:03 PM fragalot: but yea, even with good dust extraction & a good air filter running, it still covers everything
02:04 PM fragalot: and oily machine surfaces make for great dust magnets.. probably doing a better job than the purpose built air filters
02:04 PM miss0r: We should sell old clapped out mills for wood shops
02:04 PM miss0r: "once covered in 3mm of dust, replace"
02:04 PM miss0r: air quality will improve everywhere
02:05 PM fragalot: :D
02:05 PM miss0r: On other news: Tomorrow, the only components still missing from my cnc retrofit, will be the keyboard & the db50 breakout boards
02:06 PM miss0r: Finally I can start building
02:06 PM fragalot: still not found a suitable keyboard then?
02:06 PM miss0r: Well, I have. but not one that I am willing to pay for
02:06 PM miss0r: This project is pricy enough as is
02:07 PM miss0r: I might end up going for the rubber one
02:07 PM miss0r: (even if it does bring me great pain)
02:07 PM miss0r: But to be honnest - I'm not realy sure I'm even going to add a keyboard
02:08 PM miss0r: I have a touch screen. and should need be, I will also have an external IP67 USB port
02:08 PM miss0r: so I can, temporarily, attach one
02:08 PM fragalot: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B001Q7VTWE/ref=asc_df_B001Q7VTWE55406054/?tag=vergelijkbe0c-21&creative=22662&creativeASIN=B001Q7VTWE&linkCode=df0&language=nl_NL <== we use these on the 19" racks in production
02:09 PM fragalot: they're not waterproof, but they don't seem to be bothered by grinding dust
02:09 PM miss0r: what about chips? it looks like stuff could get in there
02:09 PM fragalot: probably
02:09 PM miss0r: and for that price, I could get a cheaper stainless one
02:09 PM fragalot: :P
02:10 PM * fragalot has a super tiny wireless 'Trust' keyboard he uses for his TV with a trackbal
02:10 PM miss0r: let me rephrase: for that price I could get a 'low quality' stainless one
02:10 PM fragalot: came with a little silicone cover for it too
02:10 PM miss0r: I don't want to know, why you would want 'splash protection' on your TV remote...
02:10 PM fragalot: dust cover
02:10 PM miss0r: right.
02:20 PM XXCoder: ip89 screens
02:20 PM XXCoder: *67
02:20 PM fragalot: 65 would suffice
02:20 PM fragalot: I doubt miss0r is going to pressure wash it
02:20 PM XXCoder: outside machinist communty, asking for splashproof screens would be concerning lol
02:20 PM XXCoder: thats still max water resistance. :) 5 would be dust
02:20 PM fragalot: common in industry :)
02:21 PM fragalot: no
02:21 PM fragalot: first number is dust, second is water
02:21 PM XXCoder: hmm I recall other way lemme look up
02:21 PM fragalot: you recall wrong. :)
02:21 PM fragalot: well first number is foreign objects, to be more accurate
02:21 PM XXCoder: apparently youre right
02:22 PM XXCoder: foreign objects, including bullets and such? ;)
02:22 PM fragalot: if said bullet is not travelling at speed, yes
02:22 PM Tom_L: as long as they're foreign
02:22 PM XXCoder: ah only russia or such bullets then. good for wars
02:23 PM XXCoder: kidding aside, interesting
02:23 PM miss0r: fragalot: well, it is what I had laying around :)
02:24 PM fragalot: what is?
02:24 PM XXCoder: apparently max is ip69k which means object can resist jet cleaning
02:24 PM miss0r: hell.. its IP69K when the lid is on
02:25 PM fragalot: you do know that 69K could be worse than 65 right
02:25 PM miss0r: XXCoder: actualy IP69K was a standard added to the IP standard as its own entity by the automotive buisness
02:25 PM miss0r: It descripes heated and pressurized water hitting the object from different angles
02:26 PM miss0r: fragalot: depends on how you look at it
02:26 PM fragalot: miss0r: the issue with 9K is that it specifies only 4 specific angles
02:26 PM miss0r: But I must say: I've seen some realy crummy stuff claiming to be IP69k
02:26 PM miss0r: yeah
02:27 PM Tom_L: http://safeworkplace.org/IP69K_explanation.pdf
02:27 PM XXCoder: frag page I read says from any angle
02:27 PM XXCoder: looks like its not fully "standardized", ip69k
02:27 PM fragalot: your page is wrong
02:27 PM fragalot: :D
02:27 PM Tom_L: https://www.averyweigh-tronix.com/News/news-and-case-studies-by-product/indicators-news-and-case-studies/what-is-the-ip-rating-system/
02:32 PM XXCoder: The water intrusion tests themselves are done by placing the product on a turntable with a rotational speed of 5 ±1 revolutions per minute. The product is then sprayed at close range at a rate of approximately 4 gallons/16 liters per minute with water pressure of between 1160-1450 psi, at a temperature of 176°F/80°C.
02:32 PM miss0r: fragalot: Start stacking up on your favorite programming beverage. You are soon to be helping me:D
02:32 PM XXCoder: dont look like "certain angles" to me, but all of em
02:32 PM fragalot: miss0r: what needs programming?
02:33 PM miss0r: fragalot: linuxcnc.
02:33 PM miss0r: :)
02:33 PM fragalot: but that's already done
02:33 PM fragalot: that's the entire reason we're all here
02:33 PM miss0r: you know what I mean...
02:33 PM XXCoder: open source and done?
02:33 PM XXCoder: nope.
02:33 PM miss0r: :)
02:33 PM miss0r: fragalot: My main concern is programming the gear change
02:33 PM fragalot: gloops knows HAL better than I do :P
02:34 PM miss0r: I bet :)
02:34 PM Tom_L: i thought skunkworks posted a comp for that
02:34 PM fragalot: XXCoder: the actual test, if you buy the IEC document, specifies 0, 30, 60 and 90° for 30 seconds whilst on a turntable
02:35 PM XXCoder: interesting
02:36 PM miss0r: tom_L: Where would that be? :)
02:36 PM Tom_L: i thought he posted it here a few days ago
02:36 PM miss0r: ha.. I must have missed that
02:37 PM fragalot: that log needs a search function :P
02:37 PM fragalot: which doesn't involve a recursive wget and grep
02:38 PM miss0r: yeah :)
02:40 PM gloops: linuxcnc is on a need to know basis for me
02:40 PM gloops: i know what i need to know
02:40 PM miss0r: what about what I need you to know?
02:40 PM gloops: you already know it
02:40 PM miss0r: I know little to nothing about anything, sadly
02:41 PM Tom_L: it could have been in -devel also
02:41 PM miss0r: tom_L: I see some activity from him in the last few days, but I haven't seen anything about a gear changer
02:42 PM gloops: i might need #here when i make a rotary axis, tbh i think i could handle it anyway, its just a habit coming here and pestering people for answers
02:43 PM fragalot: it helps if you also listen to said answers :-)
02:43 PM Tom_L: https://github.com/jin-eld/mh400e-linuxcnc/wiki/MH400E-Gearbox--Description
02:43 PM Tom_L: probably part of it
02:44 PM Tom_L: http://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/conversion/testing/config/gearshift16.comp
02:44 PM * fragalot likes the sound of maho's & deckels shifting gears
02:44 PM Tom_L: probably the other part :D
02:44 PM fragalot: clicketyclackety*clunk*
02:45 PM miss0r: :D
02:45 PM Tom_L: it _was_ in -devel
02:45 PM gloops: fragalot i always listen to you, after ive eliminated every other possible solution
02:45 PM fragalot: gloops: xD
02:45 PM miss0r: I think some of it is simular. Mine is also equipped with a VFD.. if you dare call a DC drive that
02:45 PM fragalot: miss0r: VVD?
02:45 PM fragalot: variable voltage drive
02:45 PM miss0r: I guess
02:45 PM miss0r: well no
02:45 PM fragalot: (I have no idea if that's a thing, but it kinda sounds like it could be)
02:45 PM miss0r: Its still a three phase
02:46 PM miss0r: but DC :)
02:46 PM miss0r: like a modern brushless
02:46 PM fragalot: so an ESC
02:46 PM miss0r: only older :D
02:46 PM fragalot: good news, you can just get a hobby one
02:47 PM miss0r: hehe, you better submerge it in liquid nitrogen, to give it a fighting chance with this motor :D
02:47 PM fragalot: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/rotorstar-180a-hv-4-14s-brushless-speed-controller-opto.html?___store=en_us
02:47 PM gregcnc: bldc
02:47 PM fragalot: 9kW
02:47 PM fragalot: let me say that again
02:47 PM miss0r: 22kw spindle here
02:47 PM fragalot: NINE kilowatts
02:48 PM fragalot: for an RC thing
02:48 PM miss0r: WTF!
02:48 PM miss0r: HOW?!
02:48 PM fragalot: nine kilowatts, spinning at 240k rpm
02:48 PM fragalot: christ :D
02:48 PM miss0r: with those ridiculous thin wires?!
02:48 PM miss0r: Something does not add up
02:49 PM fragalot: very short leads, typically high temp isolation too
02:50 PM miss0r: it better be :)
02:50 PM gregcnc: silicone is just flexiable which people like
02:50 PM gregcnc: and it doesn't melt when you solder connectors
02:50 PM fragalot: gregcnc: because it can withstand a much higher temperature than pvc or rubbers
02:51 PM gregcnc: yes
02:51 PM miss0r: Only downside is the price tag & the easy faliure of the insulation with a sharp edge
02:51 PM gregcnc: price is not an issue

06:00 PM _unreal_: Opinion question. When I build the enclosure for my tinkerboard/lcd monitor. I'm going to have a SINGLE umbilical to connect the HEAD unit with the display/computer to the motor/power box with a parallel port cable. (NOT PRINTER PORT JUST THE CABLE FOR SIGNAL) The cable will be carrying the Step/dir and enable signals etc.. the steppers and router and other things.I need to power the displa/computer with 5v. Should I run DC1
06:00 PM _unreal_: 2V and put a bec 5v converter in the head unit. or should I run 5v in the line. the cable is 8' long
06:00 PM _unreal_: dc12v
