12:00 AM djdelorie: but I wouldn't give it a 100% chance of being compatible
12:06 AM sync: well yeah
12:06 AM sync: I am setup to scrape bits off the readhead directly because of reasons
12:06 AM sync: but I would like not to
12:06 AM sync: hm, seems like they ASIC'd their bus interface chip
12:09 AM djdelorie: pcbs were very expensive to make back then, it was well worth it to fix design errors with wire
12:09 AM sync: I know
12:09 AM sync: still interesting
12:09 AM sync: wow
12:09 AM sync: the cpu1 board has a shitton of asics
12:10 AM djdelorie: esp wow if you see wires going to and from PALs. They were like free fixes for us :-)
12:10 AM roycroft: does a ton of shit weigh more than a ton of feathers?
12:10 AM djdelorie: depends. Metric ton or imperial ton?
12:11 AM sync: did they have their own fab?
12:11 AM djdelorie: I don't recall having one, but I wasn't involved in the mainframe engineering
12:11 AM MrHindsight: what era are they from?
12:12 AM djdelorie: our group did terminals, printers, PC clones, hard drives, etc. The penny candy you add to mainframe sales
12:12 AM MrHindsight: gate arrays in the 80's we cheap
12:12 AM sync: it is not really a mainframe
12:12 AM sync: it is one of the desktop units
12:12 AM sync: but it is certainly built like a mainframe
12:12 AM djdelorie: I started there in 87 and by then the PCs were closer to clones, 80286 and up.
12:13 AM djdelorie: looks like the DG10 pre-dated that, and has a mini-mainframe in it as well as the intel cpu
12:13 AM sync: well, I cannot really find a cpu in it
12:14 AM djdelorie: heh, I have one computer in my office that has a cpu *board*, not a cpu *chip*. All MSI logic
12:15 AM sync: well, it is obvious that it uses some kind of x86 architecture
12:15 AM sync: because it uses standard dma controllers and the like
12:16 AM sync: there is a huge hybrid on there with 3 plcc-like devices
12:17 AM MrHindsight: pics?
12:20 AM sync: what the actual fuck
12:21 AM sync: it has a radial blower
12:29 AM sync: well djdelorie, I have to agree, the hardware is very nice, but it was designed by madmen
12:30 AM djdelorie: and a few madwomen
12:30 AM sync: they cannot possibly made a lot of profit on those units
12:30 AM sync: +have
12:30 AM djdelorie: stuff that "cheap" was intended to be sold as extras after they nailed a huge mainframe deal
12:31 AM djdelorie: like, $400k for one mainframe, and $800k of peripherals and stuff
12:31 AM sync: I'm not so sure, this one came with my measurement machine
12:31 AM sync: so it must at least have been sold as an individual microcomputer
12:32 AM djdelorie: sure, just trying to explain why it isn't commodity priced
12:33 AM djdelorie: and why DG isn't around any more ;-)
12:33 AM djdelorie: anyway, end of day for me. More fun and madmen tomorrow! :-)
12:36 AM sync: yeah, it is evident that it was designed by people that wanted to build it like a mainframe
12:57 AM IchGucksLive: morinng from germany
12:57 AM hazzy-lab: morning ichs!
12:57 AM hazzy-lab: found a bug in your probing sub :)
12:57 AM IchGucksLive: thats goood keep it
12:57 AM hazzy-lab: LOL
12:57 AM hazzy-lab: I will
12:58 AM IchGucksLive: it is only for this mashine
12:58 AM IchGucksLive: Facrory Rule
12:58 AM IchGucksLive: non public
12:58 AM hazzy-lab: hehe
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: You set the value to the pos at which the probed stopped, rather than where the probe tripped
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: any, close enough
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: with fast accel machines
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: time for bed here
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: gn8
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: hazzy-lab the Radius in min is the pos
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: CENTER is to be blamed not tip
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: You did: G10 L20 P1 y-#<_toolradius>
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: whow 110 hits on the Alu crap mill
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: that is the point
01:00 AM hazzy-lab: that assumed the machine stopped instantly then the probe tripped, which it does not
01:01 AM hazzy-lab: it has do decelerate
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: doople tip
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: not needed
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: im on 1mm spare here
01:01 AM hazzy-lab: right, plenty good for your use, like you say!
01:02 AM IchGucksLive: only 155 views so far on SUB probing
01:02 AM hazzy-lab: gn8
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: off 2 garden
02:01 AM Deejay: moin
05:07 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: full heat outside
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: im off for a small forest E-bike Tour
05:45 AM jthornton: morning
05:54 AM SpeedEvil: Morning
05:57 AM XXCoder: morning
06:18 AM XXCoder: stupidly dangerous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJkMLnVoVWo
06:18 AM XXCoder: its CRACKED
06:37 AM jthornton: looks safe to me
06:38 AM R2E4: morning afternoon evening all.
06:38 AM jthornton: hey
06:44 AM R2E4: hey JT, you have both thc's in stock?
06:44 AM Beachbumpete1: Morning
07:37 AM jthornton: R2E4, yes
07:37 AM jthornton: hmmm I don't think I updated the stock level
07:38 AM jthornton: hazzy-lab, I think this is the direction I'm going to take when you get a moment see if I have any mistakes http://gnipsel.com/files/7i96/7i96-rev5.zip
07:40 AM jthornton: well yep I did update the inventory so much for my memory
07:46 AM R2E4: yeah, they both show in stock. Thanks, my hardheaded buddy want a crack out of making one. I'm falling back on plan B which is the thcad....lol
07:47 AM jthornton: lol
07:47 AM * jthornton heads for the shower... see everyone in the shop
08:04 AM jthornton: hazzy-lab, my next challenge is to figure out when the radio button changes and which one is selected so if you have any hints I'm all eyes
08:05 AM jthornton: I assume it has something to do with the qbuttongroup
08:29 AM R2E4: hazzy, howz the interface coming alonmg?
08:37 AM * Loetmichel is sitting 6.5 hours in the Workshop now. 31°C outer temp, no a/c or even a fan, no exhaust fan... and a CNC router and a 1500W shopvac running for 6.5 hours... i have not a single dry piece of clothing on my body... nice company, free sauna while working ;)
08:39 AM skunkworks: R2E4: hows the project coming?
08:47 AM hazzy-lab: jthornton: Did a quick spin though, looks great!
08:51 AM hazzy-lab: I think for the radiobuttons the best thing to do is connect toggled signals for all the butting in a group to the same slot
08:56 AM R2E4: skunkworks: good, main problem was stepgen_maxvel and stepgen_maxaccel
08:56 AM R2E4: Now they both are running 960 really smooth
09:00 AM JT-Shop: hazzy-dev: thanks I'll try and sort that out tomorrow morning
09:01 AM hazzy-lab: JT-Shop: http://files.kcjengr.com/dev/7i76_rev5_kcj.tar.gz
09:01 AM hazzy-lab: that should do what you want!
09:01 AM JT-Shop: thanks
09:01 AM hazzy-lab: I have not used QRadiobuttons before, that was fun!
09:01 AM hazzy-lab: gtg
09:01 AM hazzy-lab: bb tonight
09:01 AM JT-Shop: ok bye
09:05 AM R2E4: skunkworks: https://youtu.be/lWQzl7ZQiVk
09:09 AM R2E4: The accel ok or should I bump it up? https://youtu.be/kMjTQDD75vw
09:13 AM Beachbumpete1: that's some gantry height for a CNC plasma no?
09:17 AM R2E4: going to cut it down. it was bought like that for 150.00 for the whole table
09:18 AM Beachbumpete1: DAMN
09:18 AM Beachbumpete1: thats a smokin' deal
09:20 AM R2E4: with the bearings strap and ballscrew. We fixed the mechanical issues and added the motors, drives, mesa 5i25/7i76 and linuxcnc.
09:21 AM R2E4: its really smooth at 960ipm, and the Y at 750 max.
09:21 AM Beachbumpete1: You are a CNC building machine man....
09:57 AM pcw_home: R2E4 you will likely have to lower the max velocity to increase the acceleration
10:02 AM pcw_home: but machine acceleration limits may well limit cutting speed more than velocity limits
10:17 AM R2E4: I am going to drop the max velocity cause I just had a motor stall. I wont keep rapids at 1000 for sure.
10:18 AM pcw_home: if this is for plasma you need to keep constant speeds so high accel is typically more important than fast rapids
10:20 AM pcw_home: as a WAG max_accel = 5X max_vel is not too much (1/5 second to max vel)
10:23 AM * Loetmichel just had to make a "Inside bending tool" to get that sheet alu done. shit when the bend is close to a cutout... but its easily remedied, just mill some 8mm aluminium into form ... ;-) -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17168&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:17 AM R2E4_: hi all
11:19 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
11:20 AM R2E4_ is now known as all
11:20 AM all: hi IchGucksLive
11:20 AM all is now known as R2E4_
11:21 AM IchGucksLive: 1250 hits last 24hr on linuxcnc yt
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: 37 last hr
11:22 AM R2E4_: on the website?
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: the new plasma table low cost is very atractive 8 hits
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
11:24 AM IchGucksLive: i did drill around 750 M56 18 depth today
11:24 AM gregcnc: M56?
11:24 AM R2E4_: Whats the thc on that machine. I have to get my head around thc...
11:26 AM IchGucksLive: ther is no one on that but i got lots of thc in use
11:26 AM IchGucksLive: i use THCUD component
11:27 AM IchGucksLive: only 2 ports needed
11:27 AM Beachbumpete1: is that a bucket atop a CNC router or a build dedicated?
11:27 AM IchGucksLive: Software thc enable
11:27 AM R2E4_: What hardware?
11:28 AM IchGucksLive: Beachbumpete1, this english is way to mutch for me
11:28 AM IchGucksLive: http://schwedenfeuer.de/feuersauelen.htm
11:30 AM IchGucksLive: https://mechmo.de/de/cad-fraesen-drehen-lohnarbeit/
11:31 AM IchGucksLive: here you see the acual plasma we cut the parts
11:34 AM IchGucksLive: this is the THC we use it is expensiv i know but it is a real good thing
11:34 AM IchGucksLive: http://eagleplasma.com/proma-thc-sd.html
11:36 AM IchGucksLive: R2E4, here is a example http://proma-elektronika.com/index.php/en/products/thc-torch-height-control/compact-thc-150
11:36 AM IchGucksLive: R2E4, but i can give you also my 7i76 one
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: gregcnc, M6 ofcause 5mm 18 depth
12:15 PM R2E4_: IchGucksLive: the thcad?
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: is a alternative
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: i never used it
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: it is real hard to get it in germany
12:16 PM R2E4_: Where are you located?
12:16 PM R2E4_: AH!
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: germany
12:16 PM R2E4_: Would ship to Canada?
12:16 PM R2E4_: That promo, work good with LCNC?
12:18 PM IchGucksLive: yes i can relise 4500mm/min at near 45deg
12:19 PM R2E4_: wow...... How does it work?
12:19 PM R2E4_: is lcnc controlling the z or the promo?
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: lcnc
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: see the example
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4, or simply the video he provides
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: with linuxcnc you got all controls in hand
12:22 PM R2E4_: So why are they struggling with it in the forums then. That is my concern the plasma issues, mostly with the THC.
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: its a Deal you do with the system
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4, you need to interfear manuel
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: most even do nozt know the files
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: so changing things is divicult
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: i also got sidepanels to see the effect
12:24 PM R2E4_: I see your stuuf, looks like nice cuts.
12:26 PM miss0r2: Goodevening
12:28 PM miss0r2 is now known as miss0r
12:32 PM R2E4_: evening MissOr...
12:41 PM Beachbumpete1: evening
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: R2E4, querry
12:48 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bagel-labs/bagel-the-worlds-smartest-tape-measure
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: did anyone get one? How well did it hold up?
03:12 PM XXCoder: interesting!
03:13 PM XXCoder: one negative seems recording requires voice commucation
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.bagel-labs.com/ no longer available?
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: just some new version for measuring body parts
03:14 PM XXCoder: also, I wonder if its IoT shit device
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: ever find an arm or leg and wonder what its length is?
03:15 PM XXCoder: find an arm lol
03:15 PM XXCoder: looks like they failed to market so they downgraded it.
03:16 PM XXCoder: look at kickstarter comments
03:18 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0792T5WD7
03:24 PM CaptHindsight: the Measure King has its own readout
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: no smartphone required
03:25 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: well they jumped on the app bandwagon
03:25 PM XXCoder: reviews is looking ugly
03:26 PM CaptHindsight: ~8 years ago ever project I pitched with "and uses your smartphone" as input or readout people went nuts over
03:26 PM XXCoder: yeah IoS is getting insane
03:26 PM XXCoder: what next? IoT condoms?
03:27 PM CaptHindsight: wait for the next hype cycle, pitch product
03:28 PM CaptHindsight: the difference in Internet connected this time is that the product is used to spy on people vs just perform some function
03:28 PM XXCoder: apparently someone destroyed trump fame star again
03:28 PM XXCoder: dumbasses
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: people are acting out
03:29 PM XXCoder: yeah protests and all is great
03:29 PM XXCoder: but destroying stuff, not so much
03:29 PM CaptHindsight: waiting for some effective organized chaos
03:30 PM CaptHindsight: trump does it a few times a day
03:31 PM XXCoder: "the party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. it was their final, most essental command." "It's all working out. Just remember: what you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening."
03:31 PM XXCoder: only one is quote from 1984
03:33 PM CaptHindsight: Jawohl
03:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/34ag4nkSh7Q?t=26s
03:39 PM XXCoder: lol
03:47 PM gloops: Trump destroyed the drunkard junckers
03:47 PM gloops: however it does look like putin might have *those* pics
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: those in power don't seem to mind
03:51 PM gloops: that is some pretty awesome kind of power though lol
03:51 PM gloops: 'now come on TV, kiss my feet, crawl round me like a lapdog, and the pics will not posted'
03:52 PM gloops: be
03:53 PM Deejay: gn8
03:54 PM XXCoder: I just wish golden shower video is released so thats over and done
03:54 PM gloops: lol
03:54 PM XXCoder: im sure russia got more stuff to hold over anyway
03:58 PM roycroft: i do not ever want to see the pee pee tape
03:59 PM XXCoder: me either, I just want it released just so its done with.
04:01 PM CaptHindsight: trump should embrace it, make the video part of his campaign in 2020
04:05 PM roycroft: oh well
04:05 PM roycroft: at least he's bringing jobs back to america from china
04:05 PM roycroft: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-china-flags/made-in-china-trump-re-election-flags-may-get-burned-by-his-tariffs-idUSKBN1KF1D6
04:11 PM gloops: i see your finally coming round to the nationalist way of thinking roycroft
04:12 PM CaptHindsight: 10" dia steel cylinder with Teflon coating is wrapped with .001" SS wire, how much will the tension increase for each wrap of the cylinder?
04:13 PM gloops: oh simple circumference calc
04:13 PM gloops: before the tricky bit
04:14 PM roycroft: i'm just pointing out hypocracy, gloops
04:14 PM roycroft: i'm not a "nationalist" nor a "globalist"
04:15 PM Rab: CaptHindsight, why does the wrap imply tension? Do you mean resistance to the wire's movement around the cylinder?
04:15 PM gloops: well you left it a bit late to make a choice roycroft
04:15 PM CaptHindsight: 10" circumference for ease of computations
04:15 PM gloops: on friday the blood moon trilogy is fulfilled
04:15 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: yeah
04:16 PM roycroft: i left what a bit too late?
04:16 PM gloops: Malachis last prophecy will become reality
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: say one end is left free
04:16 PM gloops: the last prophecy of the last prophet
04:17 PM roycroft: i'm not interested in the musings of cults
04:18 PM gloops: well the omens bode well
04:18 PM gloops: i reckon old trump could well be the antichrist
04:19 PM roycroft: he's just a self-absorbed asshole
04:19 PM CaptHindsight: could be a goblin or a wizard?
04:20 PM gloops: we will see, i havent made any plans anyway
04:20 PM CaptHindsight: what other imaginary being could he be?
04:20 PM roycroft: i'm going camping on the coast next month, where it will be nice and cool
04:20 PM roycroft: those are my plans
04:21 PM gloops: well, malachi didnt actually use 'antichrist' he said 'anti-pope'
04:22 PM roycroft: again, i'm not really interested in cults and their beliefs
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: what if they gave you great ingredients for beer?
04:23 PM CaptHindsight: would you believe?
04:26 PM CaptHindsight: beer cult recruiter
04:26 PM roycroft: that would not be a belief, capthindsight
04:27 PM CaptHindsight: things you don't normally see on a resume
04:27 PM roycroft: it would be an established delicious fact
04:27 PM gloops: we all believe in something roycroft
04:31 PM Rab: I don't fully comprehend this analogy, but I'm ready to liken the craze of overpoweringly heavy hops in craft brewing to the ceaseless knocking of Jehova's Witnesses.
04:32 PM roycroft: i believe in music
04:32 PM roycroft: i believe in love, love, love
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: you just need to spoke them or tell them you are an EX JW
04:33 PM roycroft: when the jehova's witnesses come knocking at your door, the est thing to do is pull out a rosary and start doing hail marys as you answer
04:33 PM roycroft: they will run away very quickly
04:33 PM CaptHindsight: Rab: they stay away from EX members/apostates
04:33 PM roycroft: they can save heathens
04:33 PM roycroft: but catholics are beyond help
04:34 PM CaptHindsight: leave some Smurfs on your doorstep
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: or answer the door in the nude
04:35 PM gregcnc: shit what if it's UPS?
04:35 PM CaptHindsight: "are you hear for the party?"
04:36 PM CaptHindsight: hear/here
04:36 PM roycroft: so this kwik switch tool holder setup is not part of the bridgeport spindle - the master holder has an r8 taper
04:37 PM roycroft: however, i did not see any access to the drawbar on that mill
04:37 PM roycroft: and since the spindle was pneumatically controlled there's a good chance the drawbar is pneumatic as well
04:37 PM roycroft: which means i cannot remove the quick switch thing and use my own tooling
04:37 PM roycroft: because the air is disconnected from the machine
04:38 PM roycroft: oh well
04:38 PM CaptHindsight: what holder does it use?
04:38 PM roycroft: maybe i should think about getting a kwick switch for my mill at home
04:38 PM roycroft: kwick switch
04:38 PM roycroft: it's a proprietary thing
04:39 PM gregcnc: http://www.tools-n-gizmos.com/specs/KS_200_R8_Adapt.html
04:40 PM roycroft: yeah, that's the thing
04:40 PM roycroft: and it's a neat system
04:40 PM roycroft: the only problem is i just have r8 at home
04:41 PM roycroft: so i can't use things like face mills, my own chucks, etc. taht are all on r8 holders
04:41 PM gregcnc: you carry your tooling to work?
04:41 PM roycroft: this is for use at a maker space
04:41 PM gregcnc: oh
04:41 PM roycroft: i don't trust their stuff
04:41 PM roycroft: and i won't leave my stuff there
04:42 PM roycroft: because if i did i would not be able to trust my stuff any more, if i ever found it again
04:42 PM roycroft: the problem is that all their kwick switch holders are the screw type
04:42 PM roycroft: i prefer collets
04:45 PM roycroft: i'll use what is there though - i'm not going to invest in a bunch of tool holders that only work at an offsite mill that may not be reliably accessable
04:48 PM Rab: $700 just for that master.
04:57 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.3ders.org/articles/20180723-michelin-working-on-wood-based-tires-wants-to-use-3d-printing-to-retread-tires.html
05:42 PM Tom_L: anybody know the standard clearance between a wrench and it's counterpart hex bolt?
05:46 PM hazzy-lab: Tom_L: Way to much, lol
05:47 PM Tom_L: well, i'm recessing a bolt head that needs a hex pocket but i don't want it too tight
05:47 PM Tom_L: i suppose .020" overall would be ok
05:48 PM hazzy-lab: hmm, I think that would be plenty
05:48 PM Tom_L: too much?
05:48 PM Tom_L: that would be ~.010 per side
05:49 PM hazzy-lab: maybe, .010 should do it I would think
05:49 PM Tom_L: looking at a cross section that would be .010" per side
05:49 PM hazzy-lab: .005 is quite a bit, but it depends on the size of the hex
05:49 PM Tom_L: and the tolerance of the hex head
05:49 PM Tom_L: they stamp those things out
05:51 PM hazzy-lab: right, but they are normally a little under
05:53 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Speedhandle_fit2.jpg
05:53 PM Tom_L: i'll go measure that and see what i did there
05:53 PM Tom_L: i measured that off the stock wrench
05:55 PM hazzy-lab: Perfect!
05:57 PM Tom_L: hah
05:57 PM Tom_L: .015.. right in the middle
05:57 PM hazzy-lab: haha
05:57 PM hazzy-lab: This looks interesting: https://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/psc/spanner_jaw.html
05:58 PM Tom_L: it's probably all in the machinist's handbook but i was too lazy to get it
06:00 PM Tom_L: now i need to add a small 'divet' in the corners to allow for the cutter radius so i don't have to file them
07:21 PM roycroft: hmm, it only got up to 37 today
07:21 PM roycroft: mayhap i'll survive this heat wave after all
08:49 PM gregcnc: roycroft i have some deschutes obsidian, not really what I expect in a stout
