05:25 AM Tom_L: morning
05:27 AM TurBoss[m]: hello
05:30 AM Tom_L: 78°F Hi 100
05:31 AM XXCoder: its nice and cloudy here... for now
05:31 AM XXCoder: monday will be hot hell
05:31 AM Tom_L: walked out last night and my glasses fogged over it's so humid
05:33 AM jthornton: I have a ground hog problem... buggers are eating my plants
05:35 AM jthornton: gedit 3 is horrible
05:36 AM jthornton: linux mint if you create a home/user/bin directory it automagicly adds it to the path
05:37 AM jthornton: debian does not play nice
05:38 AM jthornton: hmm it is in .profile but it didn't work
05:39 AM XXCoder: gedit was awesome
05:39 AM XXCoder: now..
05:40 AM jthornton: If bash is your login shell, then it will try ~/.bash_profile, ~/.bash_login and ~/.profile in this order. It will however stop at the first one it finds.
05:40 AM jthornton: wonderful
05:47 AM jthornton: damn 97°F for a high today
05:50 AM XXCoder: dang
06:03 AM jthornton: For the moment, you have to ./configure with --prefix=same prefix as you configured pluma with.
06:03 AM jthornton: I wonder what gibberish that means
06:31 AM jthornton: hmm qt designer is not available in debian 9
06:40 AM jthornton: well I finally found it hidden deep
07:34 AM mase: hi
08:35 AM hazzy-lab: jthornton: It is a shame, all the Gtk2 apps were pretty good, in general the Gtk3 ones are terrible
08:35 AM hazzy-lab: did not know it would be possible to mess up gedit so badly
08:36 AM jthornton: yea gedit sucks now
08:36 AM jthornton: thanks for the uipdate
08:36 AM hazzy-lab: I created a launcher for QtDesinger ...
08:36 AM hazzy-lab: Sure!
08:36 AM jthornton: I finally found it and added mozo so I could edit the menus
08:36 AM jthornton: shower time... been playing too long this morning
08:37 AM hazzy-lab: alright, breakfast time here
08:37 AM hazzy-lab: cu

01:33 PM Tecan: https://github.com/repetier/Repetier-Firmware/issues/807
01:33 PM Tecan: rsa encrypted gcode
01:57 PM cradek: Tecan: horrifying
02:24 PM Simonious_ is now known as Simonious
02:38 PM hazzy-lab: Tecan: That kinda nonsense is why I stopped using repetier
02:53 PM nallar is now known as Ross
04:02 PM Deejay: re
04:05 PM Tecan: i think it would be awesome to licence a parts for a set ammount of prints or till the signing expires
04:05 PM Tecan: i think rsa keys expire too
04:06 PM cradek: Tecan: horrifying
04:09 PM Tecan: because you cant see what your printing and they might export the limits too large ?
04:10 PM hazzy-lab: Deejay: wb
04:10 PM cradek: because it's immoral to write software that abuses users
04:30 PM Deejay: gn8
04:45 PM ve7it: cradek, missed the jist of the repetier comments... whats up? I just started using repetierHost
04:55 PM hazzy-lab: ve7it: https://github.com/repetier/Repetier-Firmware/issues/807
04:59 PM ve7it: hazzy-lab, thanks
06:17 PM ecstasy: What motion controller do you all advise?
06:18 PM pcw_mesa: Bugatti?
06:19 PM ecstasy: cmon, I'm serious
06:21 PM gloops: for what?
06:25 PM XXCoder: I guess for jog pendant
06:26 PM XXCoder: or maybe he means something like MESA or tb6600s
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: ecstasy: I use Linux CNC
06:30 PM XXCoder: not surpising really what with channel name and all :)
06:30 PM CaptHindsight: mostly on x86 PC's
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: well there's been some mach support here lately
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: and GRBL sure gets mentioned too much
06:31 PM ecstasy: what about UCCNC
06:32 PM ecstasy: the board that sends steps to the motors and gets the gcode from the pc
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: i have a jingle for that IC UI we all C for CNC
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: opps IC UC
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: https://cncdrive.com/UCCNC.html

06:37 PM gloops: UCCNC IS linuxcnc
06:38 PM hazzy-lab: gloops: it is?
06:38 PM CaptHindsight: looks like they sell cheap gears, screws and bearings with little specifications
06:39 PM mase: Britian want accress to EU market
06:39 PM mase: I say these boy don t belong to the special club
06:39 PM mase: let them pay for that

06:42 PM gloops: mase we arent paying anything
06:43 PM gloops: the EU will be ground away between the twin wheels of debt and inflation
06:45 PM CaptHindsight: don't forget the wheels of progress

06:51 PM hazzy-lab: gloops: maybe just jealous you all are getting out before the ship sinks ...
06:53 PM gloops: hazzy-lab well they had the chance to save themselves but they wouldnt listen to us
06:53 PM gloops: anyway bedtime here
07:53 PM XXCoder: new p[ro,otive tech
08:55 PM skunkworks: sloooowly squaring up the cast...
08:57 PM * skunkworks loves linuxcnc
09:06 PM Tom_L: got more pics?
09:27 PM roycroft: well, that was interesting
09:27 PM roycroft: i finally took a trip to the local maker space during their "open hack" night
09:27 PM roycroft: it was mostly as i expected - a big pile of junk, mostly in disarray
09:27 PM roycroft: but they had a few machines that were halfway decent
09:27 PM roycroft: including an old, vintage '80s bridgeport mill with an original bridgeport cnc setup
09:28 PM Tom_L: boss5?
09:28 PM Tom_L: boss9?
09:28 PM roycroft: it wasn't powered up
09:28 PM roycroft: and nobody knew how to use it
09:28 PM roycroft: but they told me i could have at it if i want
09:28 PM roycroft: there is allegedly some documentation on it
09:28 PM Tom_L: current loop interface
09:29 PM roycroft: it has a flood coolant system, but the machine is freestanding
09:29 PM Tom_L: i had books on it but sent them to archivist because i thought i'd never need em
09:29 PM roycroft: the coolant would spray all over the floor
09:29 PM Tom_L: turn it down
09:29 PM roycroft: i did not see any recovery lines
09:30 PM Tom_L: standard bridgeport drain hole?
09:30 PM roycroft: it's likely incomplete
09:30 PM roycroft: i saw no drain line connected to it
09:31 PM roycroft: but it's interesting enough, and i have some parts to make that are 24" long, much longer than my little mill/drill can handle in one go, that i might join the maker space and spend some time on that bridgeport
09:31 PM roycroft: the person who was showing it to me said "this is so old you have to boot into dos and then type a command at the dos prompt to run the cnc. do you know what dos is?"
09:32 PM roycroft: i said "look at me. i'm much older than dos"
09:32 PM Tom_L: i had the books on the bridgeport interface too
09:32 PM Tom_L: i forget what it was called now
09:32 PM roycroft: next time i go over there i'll look for the docs they have
09:33 PM roycroft: if i join the maker space i'll certainly volunteer to take the docs home and scan them
09:33 PM roycroft: so that the maker space can have an electronic version
09:33 PM Tom_L: when andy was here at the wichita fest years ago i sent them back with him to give to archivist
09:33 PM roycroft: it will be interesting to see what he has
09:33 PM Tom_L: my bud's was a boss5
09:34 PM roycroft: if the docs the maker space have are different, and i get to scan them, i'd be happy to send a copy to archivist
09:34 PM roycroft: i'll find out soon
09:34 PM roycroft: at first i was bummed that it was cnc, actually
09:35 PM roycroft: i don't really need cnc right now - the features i need to machine are pretty simple
09:35 PM roycroft: but i can use it dro mode and jog
09:35 PM roycroft: and actually cnc might be useful
09:35 PM roycroft: i'm making weird parts
09:35 PM roycroft: using american customary material
09:36 PM Tom_L: the arcs on that are in quadrants
09:36 PM roycroft: the features are 3/8" holes with chamfers and countersinks
09:36 PM Tom_L: we had a bit of fun figuring that out iirc
09:36 PM roycroft: but spaced at 32mm
09:36 PM roycroft: so if i could flip back and forth between american customary and metric that would make life easier
09:36 PM Tom_L: just convert one to the other
09:37 PM roycroft: that's what i'm doing now in cad
09:37 PM roycroft: but conversions are not always exact
09:37 PM roycroft: which means the easy way of doing it, by doing relative movements, would result in cumulative error
09:38 PM roycroft: but doing absolute movements are no problem for converted units
09:38 PM roycroft: if it's cnc that doesn't matter as much as doing it manually
09:39 PM roycroft: 32mm is 1.2598425196850394in
09:39 PM roycroft: over the course of 20 holes the rounding error would be significant
09:40 PM roycroft: anyway, i'll sort it all out once i get the docs and spent some time with the mill
09:40 PM roycroft: this might also inspire me to finally do the cnc conversion of my little mill-drill, since i would have a second mill to work on while making parts for the conversion
