01:21 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: lots of damage here after the hail/ice storm
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden till later
01:46 AM Deejay: moin
03:22 AM selroc: hi pink_vampire|2
04:08 AM norias: i'm working towards having a get together
04:08 AM norias: for the machinists in my city
04:08 AM norias: but i'm thinking... that could actually be a far bigger event than I was thinking
05:00 AM jthornton: morning
05:00 AM XXCoder: yo
05:06 AM norias: oi
05:07 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
05:07 AM norias: hi
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: norias, where is the event
05:08 AM norias: not sure yet
05:08 AM norias: this is just the contemplation stage
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: Continent at least
05:08 AM norias: there was a guy from my city
05:08 AM norias: Pittsburgh, PA, USA
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: im in Germany
05:08 AM norias: his name was George Westinghouse
05:08 AM norias: he had a machine shop
05:08 AM IchGucksLive: so i think im not paticipating
05:08 AM norias: and would have these dinners
05:09 AM norias: and it got the people talking about technical problems in an unofficial setting
05:09 AM IchGucksLive: tessla woudt love to join
05:09 AM norias: so, they were less constrained
05:09 AM norias: and it was really productive
05:09 AM norias: that's where i got the idea
05:09 AM IchGucksLive: as we are here 24/7
05:10 AM norias: i think it was just be fun
05:10 AM norias: to have all the machinists in one city
05:10 AM norias: get together
05:10 AM IchGucksLive: norias, all about cnc my YT https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
05:10 AM IchGucksLive: norias, what do you expect
05:10 AM norias: not much, really
05:10 AM norias: just a fun time
05:10 AM norias: see what happens
05:10 AM IchGucksLive: there are many different issues all facing
05:11 AM IchGucksLive: at different times
05:11 AM norias: that's the point - you can't have an expectation
05:11 AM norias: maybe someone is looking for a new job and another guy works in a cool shop looking for someone
05:11 AM IchGucksLive: most of the meetings alredy in place are only for view people
05:11 AM XXCoder: I would recommand certain periods od topic
05:11 AM norias: maybe we chat about wages
05:11 AM IchGucksLive: norias, its open sopurce
05:12 AM norias: just have an event and let shit happen
05:12 AM XXCoder: norias: yeah but same time should have say events spaced
05:12 AM IchGucksLive: Burningman in BRC did go business that far
05:12 AM XXCoder: so theres something to see or do
05:13 AM norias: well, i think it's just "meet other people in your field, have dinner"
05:13 AM IchGucksLive: norias, ask on arduino they are getting bigger within the time
05:13 AM norias: maybe watch a movie
05:13 AM IchGucksLive: norias, her it is more live Help chanel with good siscussion
05:14 AM IchGucksLive: some at breakfast more at dinner and even more at BBq
05:14 AM IchGucksLive: ints international around the clock
05:15 AM IchGucksLive: im off till 7pm Berlin Time
05:15 AM norias: brb
05:29 AM Tom_L: 78°f
05:32 AM jthornton: 72°F
05:38 AM XXCoder: 63f here heh. my room is 74f
05:39 AM MrHindsight: norias: https://www.meetup.com/cities/us/pa/pittsburgh/tech/
05:42 AM norias: MrHindsight- thanks
05:42 AM norias: however, I am aware of these
05:42 AM MrHindsight: good luck
05:49 AM norias: thanks
05:51 AM MrHindsight: https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/6/e/7/600_448826343.jpeg MDF machine base?
05:52 AM XXCoder: 2 layer of it it loks like
06:00 AM MrHindsight: methods_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkXeMoBPSDk Who Is America?
06:02 AM MrHindsight: Liberals are pushing their "anti-tragedy agenda."
06:03 AM norias: anti-tragdey agenda?
06:04 AM rmu: norias: this channel gets a bit 4chan-esque at times
06:04 AM norias: rmu: i'm not exactly sure what that means, but i'll roll with it
06:05 AM MrHindsight: hilarious
06:05 AM MrHindsight: here's an example: https://www.theonion.com/man-can-t-believe-obama-would-use-tragedy-to-push-anti-1819578310
06:06 AM norias: is that a ppk?
06:09 AM XXCoder: what is ppk?
06:09 AM norias: type of handgun
06:09 AM norias: part of sort of a family of firearms
06:09 AM MrHindsight: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_PP
06:09 AM XXCoder: oh no idea
06:09 AM norias: the whole Walther PP family and it's clones
06:42 AM asdfasd: bg
06:50 AM Beachbumpete1: Good Morning LinuxCNC
06:59 AM gloops: quiet again
07:02 AM MrHindsight: anti-noise agenda
07:13 AM XXCoder: shh
07:13 AM Loetmichel: *gnaaaah* 235 turns with an allen key to open the BMW canopy manually.... but its resetted now and works with the motors again... aaand i get faster. first reset of the canopy controller took me 1 hour, now it took 15 min ;)
07:16 AM rebecca: anyone know where to get 4 core shielded cable with sufficient current/voltage specs for driving a 2.2kw spindle? i don't think the usual mic cable will cut it
07:17 AM Loetmichel: rebecca: oelflex from lappkabel
07:18 AM gloops: i got some offcuts off ebay
07:20 AM rebecca: Loetmichel: thanks but i have a policy of not doing business to people who do that stupid 'request a quote' bs
07:20 AM rebecca: gloops: what did you search for to find it?
07:20 AM XXCoder: to me request a quote is sign that i cnt afford it
07:20 AM rebecca: hehe that too
07:20 AM XXCoder: even if its likely one dollar
07:20 AM rebecca: but also stupidly annoying
07:21 AM rebecca: i visited their website and clicked on their catalog, THAT was me requesting a quote
07:21 AM XXCoder: indeed
07:21 AM MrHindsight: suplier do that to weed out the time wasters and small quantity buyers
07:21 AM rebecca: well, i suppose it works
07:22 AM XXCoder: now to sleep before I die. laters
07:22 AM rebecca: ni ni
07:26 AM gloops: rebecca - 6m long 7 core 1.5mm CY control cable multicore screened shielded braided
07:28 AM rebecca: thanks gloops, i'll give that a try
07:29 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAPP-Olflex-CLASSIC-CY-SHIELDED-AUDIOPHILE-GRADE-CABLE-FOR-DIY-Per-1M-3-28ft/122047313464?
07:29 AM gloops: dont know if thats what youre looking for, i was told not to get CY but works fine for my machine
07:31 AM gloops: thats 3 core though..theres 4 core about same kind of thing on ebay
07:32 AM rebecca: mmm cool. yeah. 4core is what i need but that helps, thanks
07:37 AM rmu: Loetmichel: cut off allen key with angle grinder, put it into cordless drill
07:40 AM rebecca: what can't an angle grinder fix :D
07:40 AM rebecca: i made an allen key with an angle grinder once
07:46 AM Loetmichel: rmu: would be dangerous. the car is from 1999, the flexible shafts that are driven by that allen key are a bit flimsy ,)
07:48 AM rmu: Loetmichel: get a brushless drill with electronic torque control, and a steady trigger finger ;)
07:55 AM makerman: hi
07:56 AM gloops: hi makerman
08:00 AM miss0r: seen syyl
08:00 AM miss0r: !seen syyl
08:00 AM miss0r: hm
08:07 AM JT-Shop: I think that bot is down
08:23 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
08:23 AM IchGucksLive: makerman, bist du da
08:24 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, oelflex 110 chain is best
08:24 AM IchGucksLive: 4x0,75
08:24 AM IchGucksLive: for up to 6A
08:24 AM IchGucksLive: 4x0,5 up ztp 2.5A
08:24 AM gloops: well i just got what i found at that time Ichs, when you look properly theres all kinds of cable around not very expensive
08:25 AM Beachbumpete1: rebecca what kind of 3D printer was it you said you had? Still on the hunt for one here. Looking seriously at the Tronxy X5SA and the Creality 10 Both seem to have issues with QC and other details but honestly have yet to find one that has no issues LOL...
08:25 AM gloops: anywa afk
08:25 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: anycubic i3 mega
08:26 AM rebecca: very happy with it
08:26 AM Beachbumpete1: no issues at all?
08:26 AM Beachbumpete1: does that one have dual Z motors?
08:27 AM rebecca: the only gripe is have, and this is very minor, is the magnetic connector for the filament end sensor sometimes pops off
08:27 AM Beachbumpete1: the Ender3 seems to get good reviews as well..
08:27 AM rebecca: but it has never caused any actual problems. no interruption of printing or anything
08:27 AM rebecca: ok
08:28 AM Beachbumpete1: I kinda wanted a larger machine tho and the Tronxy X5SA looks like it could work great for that but it does have some issues and it is far more of a kit than the others. Perhaps some of those issues come from the inability of users
08:28 AM rebecca: maybe
08:29 AM Beachbumpete1: You basically build everything with the exception of some of the wiring is already done apparently.
08:29 AM rebecca: one of the reasons i chose the i3 mega was it's not a kit. just 2 parts easily bolted together
08:30 AM Beachbumpete1: so that one appears to indeed have dual z motors and it looks like it comes with auto level as well...
08:32 AM Beachbumpete1: that is indeed a valid point no worries just start using it right off the bat...
08:33 AM rebecca: yeah. i just wanted a reliable appliance type printer. and it fits that bill for me
08:33 AM rebecca: already building a cnc. didn't need another project
08:34 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah me too LOL
08:34 AM Beachbumpete1: have you printed anything interesting with it yet?
08:37 AM rebecca: yeah, a nice selection. been exploring Cura settings and leveling up so to speak at different print challenges
08:39 AM IchGucksLive: we got around 4 big printermaker around here
08:40 AM IchGucksLive: https://saarpri.com/
08:40 AM IchGucksLive: it prints for automotiv industrie around 10000 parts a day
08:40 AM IchGucksLive: faberhouse claims to print 5k parts a day
08:41 AM rebecca: https://i.imgur.com/pNYFZnh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gKS58fP.jpg https://imgur.com/a/1bsYBbY
08:41 AM IchGucksLive: ive been inside one of its printer rooms with 110 printer running
08:41 AM rebecca: FDM style?
08:42 AM IchGucksLive: makerman, ich bin immer um 7 uhr hier
08:42 AM IchGucksLive: im off folks
08:44 AM Beachbumpete1: rebecca WOAH that baby groot looks amazing!!
08:44 AM rebecca: yeah, turned out all right :)
08:44 AM rebecca: you can also see an ITS print in one of the prints
08:44 AM Beachbumpete1: alright hell that thing is beautiful.. Nice job
08:45 AM rebecca: thanks :)
08:46 AM rebecca: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2610529
08:47 AM rebecca: source model
08:48 AM rebecca: i printed it at 110%
08:51 AM enleth: have you ever seen/used any protective eyewear (for machining, grinding, etc.) that is actually properly hydrophobic on the inside and doesn't fog up *at all*?
08:52 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: might be worth learning to use openscad if you get a 3Dprinter. making a little pot container for the baby groot planter was a whole 2 lines of code: https://imgur.com/aijGxyQ
08:53 AM rebecca: enleth: i just licked the inside of my safety glasses if conditions made them fog up :D
08:54 AM rebecca: proper non-fogging ones would be nice
08:54 AM enleth: I don't even care how much they'd cost at this point
08:55 AM enleth: as long as they never fog up
08:55 AM rebecca: you can buy hydrophobic surface treatment solutions now
08:55 AM rebecca: maybe it's DIY-able?
08:55 AM miss0r: any of you ever machined the 1911 from the "newly" available online drawings?
08:56 AM enleth: rebecca: perhaps, if they're transparent and can be applied in a uniform layer that doesn't distort the view
08:57 AM rebecca: enleth: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10053211/9656260-hgkj-4-car-windshield-ceramic-glass-hydrophobic
08:57 AM rebecca: no idea if it would actually work but might be worth trying
08:57 AM rebecca: miss0r: 1911?
08:58 AM miss0r: sorry; the colt 1911 (original browning design)
08:58 AM enleth: rebecca: it is, I'll look for something like this locally
08:58 AM Wolf__: miss0r: its on my todo list
08:58 AM enleth: wonder if it sticks to polycarbonate, though
08:58 AM rebecca: miss0r: ahhh. no. prob illegal here.. not that i would anyway
08:59 AM miss0r: Wolf__: realy? But you're one of those imperial fellahs, right?
08:59 AM miss0r: rebecca: Here as well, which is why I will be making a scaled down model of it
08:59 AM rebecca: miss0r: ahhh ok :)
08:59 AM Wolf__: legal here
08:59 AM miss0r: wolf__: as long as it is for your own use, right?
08:59 AM rebecca: enleth: i might order some myself just to experiment.
09:00 AM Wolf__: yeah, only need federal license if making for resale
09:00 AM miss0r: I've downloaded the drawings from online, but It is killing me that everything is in inches. Alot of calculations for when doing the cad
09:01 AM miss0r: I've found a very good description of the inner workings :D : http://i.imgur.com/VNqPqxm.gif
09:01 AM Wolf__: which I have been thinking about going that route, doing gunsmithing/manufacturing
09:01 AM enleth: miss0r: uh, doesn't your CAD allow you to input dimensions in inches even if it displays metric?
09:01 AM Wolf__: ^
09:01 AM enleth: miss0r: I'm almost certainly sure any CAD I've used does that just fine
09:02 AM Wolf__: I do that all the time w/ the cad I use, mixing units during input
09:02 AM miss0r: enleth: I'm sure it does. But honnestly, to me inches are just imaginary numbers, they mean very little to me, so catching myself doing a 'typo' would not be a trivial deal
09:02 AM Wolf__: well, you did want to make it scale right :P
09:02 AM miss0r: I can calculate the simple ones in my head, no problem, its just math.. but you know :D
09:03 AM miss0r: wolf__: Not a variable scale, no :P
09:03 AM enleth: ah. I guess a couple years of watching ABOM79 and servicing my Bridgeport made me capable of working with both at the same time, even if I despise it
09:03 AM Wolf__: most stuff in the usa is all mixed now as well
09:03 AM miss0r: sure.. But it still messes with my brain
09:04 AM Wolf__: making working on things very fun…
09:04 AM miss0r: And so far i've been unable to find a downloadable cad of the drawings. only actual drawings
09:04 AM miss0r: :]
09:04 AM enleth: Wolf__: I suppose if you want to work metric in the US, you go do milspec stuff, right?
09:04 AM enleth: at least, modern milspec
09:05 AM Wolf__: I found out the other day that a set screw kit I got from harbor freight is SAE thread, all metric hex…
09:05 AM gregcnc: you just push the mm button on the digital mic?
09:05 AM rebecca: mmmmmm metric
09:05 AM miss0r: rebecca: s/metric/sience
09:05 AM Wolf__: cars, trucks, tool just about everything is mix of imperial/metric
09:05 AM miss0r: :P
09:06 AM Wolf__: no idea on the mil spec stuff
09:06 AM miss0r: I think I'll spend some time watching online videos of people making the gun from scratch, to get a running start on what operations to do in what order, without having to do too much planning :)
09:07 AM miss0r: I know syyl atleast started making a scaled down version at some point. I have no idea if he finished / if he has metric drawings
09:07 AM Wolf__: miss0r: youtube mosinvirus
09:07 AM Beachbumpete1: rebecca I am using Fusion360 for most of my 3d solid model stuff
09:08 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: ahhh, ok
09:08 AM Wolf__: also check fosscad on GitHub, also I have found some good solid models on grab cad
09:09 AM Beachbumpete1: I use it almost daily at work now so getting pretty good with it.
09:09 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: i'm one of those OSS zealots ;)
09:09 AM Beachbumpete1: what slicer are you using?
09:09 AM rebecca: cool
09:09 AM gregcnc: that's what it takes is continuous use
09:09 AM rebecca: Cura
09:09 AM miss0r: Wolf__: That looks interresting
09:09 AM Beachbumpete1: is that freeware?
09:09 AM rebecca: i think so
09:10 AM Beachbumpete1: LOL
09:10 AM miss0r: wolf__: but that mosinvirus guys; it looks like he only buys the 80% and then machine it from there. I'm going to start with a roughcut workpiece
09:10 AM rebecca: they have a linux package for free
09:10 AM Wolf__: miss0r: yeah, but give you a rough idea of fitting and function
09:11 AM Beachbumpete1: that vase looked nice too
09:11 AM Beachbumpete1: where ya buying your filament?
09:11 AM Beachbumpete1: are you US based?
09:12 AM miss0r: wolf__: Sure. I've shot plenty with this gun(also dissassembly and cleaning ect), so I have some idea. But from a machinist point of view, theres some stuff that makes sense doing before other operations when doing it from scratch. That is what I was hoping to get a look at, to 'sorta' cheat start :)
09:12 AM Wolf__: miss0r: true, that part I have no idea on
09:12 AM miss0r: Wolf__: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ldcktvWGEc
09:13 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: still using the roll of black PLA (1kg) which came with the printer. Bought the printer and some additional spools of filament from fasttech.com
09:14 AM rebecca: Beachbumpete1: nope. Australia
09:15 AM Beachbumpete1: damn those guys have tons of stuff...
09:15 AM Beachbumpete1: are they auz based?
09:16 AM Wolf__: fast tech is a china outlet shop
09:16 AM Beachbumpete1: aah like bangood etc
09:16 AM Wolf__: yup
09:16 AM rebecca: yeah
09:17 AM Beachbumpete1: they also happen to have the best price I have seen on that TronXY hmmmm
09:18 AM Wolf__: for USA, I order all my 3d printer filaments from https://atomicfilament.com
09:19 AM Wolf__: and one thing to watch out for, fasttech does sell knockoffs/clones
09:20 AM Beachbumpete1: nice...what printer do you use?
09:21 AM Wolf__: right now I have a maker farm 10” i3V, planning on doing a DIY version of the same thing in 12”/300mm heat bed tho
09:23 AM Beachbumpete1: aah thats a new one to me. Looks cool
09:24 AM Wolf__: now its overpriced but simple design to DIY with openbuild extrudes
09:24 AM Beachbumpete1: I keep leaning to this TronxY X5SA for some reason but probably regret it LOL
09:24 AM Beachbumpete1: I don't really want to DIY on my first one but I would build a nice kit to get a good machine with large volume
09:25 AM Wolf__: its so simple, not much reason to not diy
09:25 AM Beachbumpete1: Google search has some hot chick doing gymnastics on top of one of those machines tho LOL.
09:25 AM Wolf__: more so seeing you have cnc gear
09:25 AM Wolf__: can stay away from the cheap cast metal corner brackets
09:26 AM Beachbumpete1: also has pics of a 3d printed mag holder for a CZ tournament pistol. Pretty cool...
09:27 AM Beachbumpete1: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10031659/9657407-authentic-tronxy-x5s-2e-diy-3d-printer-kit-eu
09:27 AM Beachbumpete1: see anything wrong with one like that?
09:29 AM Beachbumpete1: It says 360w power supply but it does not say what voltage that I can see... Most people seem to think a plate that large needs 24vdc pps...
09:33 AM enleth: miss0r: well, at least you can be sure that the whole design is doable using 1910s tech on manual machines
09:34 AM miss0r: enleth: hehe yeah; theres realy no excuses :)
09:34 AM Wolf__: Beachbumpete1: yeah info is lacking on that thing, and I’m not sure how I feel about the printers with the bed that is the Z
09:36 AM enleth: I guess the biggest challenge here lies in reverse engineering the original fixturing from the part design
09:36 AM gloops: 1910 machines ..hmm finally something i could probably make lol
09:37 AM miss0r: make no mistake; the design is quite complex. And very good - no doubt about that. It was in service in the US miletary from 1911 to 1995
09:38 AM gloops: what part is it miss0r?
09:38 AM miss0r: gloops: Its a colt 1911
09:38 AM enleth: actually, for a design this widespread, there *must* be some publicly available photos of fixtured parts being manufactured
09:38 AM miss0r: there are a ton :)
09:39 AM Beachbumpete1: Wolf__ Supposedly it is more stable than the tall Z single column gantry machines but who knows
09:39 AM gregcnc: entire websites and forums dedicates to 1911s
09:40 AM miss0r: yeah. The internet is overflowing with this stuff
09:40 AM gloops: the whole gun? looks fairly straightforward but i dont know anything about guns
09:40 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: as if that made a difference for a 3D printer
09:41 AM Wolf__: Beachbumpete1: I suppose thats possible, still seems like not the best idea imo
09:41 AM Beachbumpete1: https://www.fasttech.com/p/9648568 they have a 400mm machine now too apparently
09:41 AM miss0r: bbl
09:41 AM Beachbumpete1: enleth apparently it does... less ghosting or something like that
09:42 AM Wolf__: I dont see heat beds on these things
09:42 AM Beachbumpete1: what do you mean?
09:42 AM Beachbumpete1: they all have heated beds
09:43 AM Wolf__: yeah, looking at a review vid right now
09:44 AM Wolf__: Beachbumpete1: https://youtu.be/PipfspYunRY
09:45 AM Beachbumpete1: hehe man I have watched a TON of videos on these things...
09:45 AM Beachbumpete1: most people say that same things about all of them.
09:45 AM Beachbumpete1: they are awesome....BUT
09:45 AM Beachbumpete1: I am liking that 400mm one tho...
09:45 AM Beachbumpete1: great price on that fastech site
09:46 AM Wolf__: I think thats every out of a box 3d printer lol
09:46 AM Beachbumpete1: that is kinda what I am saying
09:46 AM Beachbumpete1: or at least it seems that way from the reviews
09:47 AM Beachbumpete1: I just don't want to get a project right off the bat here but I LIKE that big volume... nothing worse than not being able to make what you want because your damn machine is too small LOL
09:47 AM Wolf__: I think it goes with every non diy 3d printer is buy printer, build, calibrate, first month of prints are upgrades for said printer
09:47 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: in any case, if you can afford it, get yourself the cheapest chinese CO2 laser cutter in addition to a 3D printer to save yourself a lot of pain
09:48 AM Wolf__: lol get co2 cutter, and cut printer out of acrylic sheet
09:48 AM Beachbumpete1: I see some people using their 3d printers to build laser cutter machines
09:48 AM Beachbumpete1: or rather retrofitting them with lasers
09:49 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: most likely not CO2
09:49 AM Beachbumpete1: no idea
09:49 AM Wolf__: diode, which wont cut anything well
09:49 AM enleth: CO2 needs a tube compartment and moving mirrors
09:50 AM Beachbumpete1: why would having a cheap chinese laser cutter save me a lot of pain?
09:50 AM enleth: because they're FAST
09:50 AM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/oYn7JHD.jpg
09:50 AM enleth: and surprisingly reliable
09:50 AM enleth: and repeatable
09:50 AM gregcnc: what are you lasering pete?
09:50 AM Beachbumpete1: woah a laser cutter built on a wood frame?
09:51 AM Wolf__: its only 2.5w
09:51 AM Wolf__: it will cut paper
09:51 AM Beachbumpete1: greg nothing man someone just recommended I get one LOL
09:51 AM gregcnc: lol
09:51 AM gregcnc: they are cool if you need it
09:51 AM Wolf__: I want to do a 100w co2 but $$ and space
09:51 AM Beachbumpete1: I like the idea of having one but kinda leery of it due to the fire dangers
09:52 AM Wolf__: but I do have all the bits except the frame and tube/psu
09:52 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: the cheap ones usually have to have their electrical compartment gutted and rewired properly and it takes some time and effort to get the mirrors right the first time you do it, but afterwards it just works
09:52 AM Beachbumpete1: got a full blown VMC in the garage now along with a CNC lathe retrofit project on a 14x50 CNC lathe
09:53 AM gregcnc: are you doing any work at home?
09:53 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: fire hazard? what fire hazard? it's so fast you don't need to leave it unsupervised
09:53 AM Beachbumpete1: got project guitars going, project air rifles, project gun stocks etc.. don't really need any more projects
09:53 AM Beachbumpete1: gregcnc sorta ;)
09:53 AM Wolf__: lol
09:53 AM Wolf__: I know about too many projects
09:54 AM Beachbumpete1: what do you guys honestly think of that TronxY X5SA 400 MM machine?
09:54 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: keep a rag in a bucket of water by the machine, worst case you hit the e-stop, open the door and bitchslap the smoldering material with the rag a couple times, then re-align and carry on
09:54 AM Wolf__: doesn’t look bad
09:54 AM Beachbumpete1: enleth :)
09:54 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: I've only had to do this once in over two years
09:54 AM Beachbumpete1: Wolf__ IKR it looks decent to me man
09:55 AM Wolf__: co2 laser, just be sure to clean the wood swarf out of it often
09:55 AM Beachbumpete1: got a link to one of those CNC lasers?
09:55 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: google K40 CO2 laser
09:55 AM Wolf__: k40 is the entry level thing
09:56 AM enleth: there's an open source driver, K40 Whisperer
09:56 AM Wolf__: I wanted overkill @ 100W RMS tube
09:56 AM Beachbumpete1: is that what your wood frame one is?
09:56 AM Wolf__: but I want a machine that can cut 3/4” plywood
09:57 AM Beachbumpete1: WOAH
09:57 AM Wolf__: no that wood frame + 3d printed thing is 2.5W diode laser
09:58 AM Beachbumpete1: ah ok
09:58 AM Wolf__: co2 build is shelfed till I have more shop space
09:58 AM Beachbumpete1: can you engrave with that?
09:58 AM Wolf__: can shallow burn wood with it
09:58 AM Wolf__: which I have been using it to mark up wood projects lol
09:59 AM enleth: Beachbumpete1: K40 will cut up to 4mm of ply in one pass, same with acrylic, and engraves aluminum just fine
09:59 AM Beachbumpete1: is that a target or something on it?
09:59 AM Beachbumpete1: nice
09:59 AM Wolf__: c5 collet rack insert for my kennedy box
09:59 AM Beachbumpete1: ah
09:59 AM Beachbumpete1: gonna cut em with a forstner bit?
10:00 AM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/2s4u8Qe.jpg thats the idea
10:01 AM Beachbumpete1: trigger finger is gettin' itchy on that TronXY 400mm :)
10:01 AM Wolf__: lol
10:01 AM Wolf__: I’m about to toss a bid out on a surface grinder
10:02 AM Beachbumpete1: says 0-100 degrees C on the heatbed...is that enough?
10:02 AM Wolf__: plenty
10:03 AM Beachbumpete1: cool....birthday money is burnin' a hole
10:06 AM Wolf__: anyone here do any surface grinding?
10:08 AM Beachbumpete1: I have done a bit in the past
10:09 AM Beachbumpete1: we don't have one here at the shop now tho
10:09 AM Wolf__: looking at a reid 618, wondering if its a bad idea or not lol
10:10 AM Beachbumpete1: older ones tend to get a sag in the middle sometimes
10:12 AM gloops: ages ago i used to use a surface grinder occasionally
10:12 AM gloops: lovely machines to use
10:13 AM Wolf__: thinking it might be a nice asset to have in the shop
10:16 AM gloops: i dont think youll regret having one
10:16 AM enleth: I'm looking for a small benchtop one
10:16 AM enleth: but they're almost nonexistent around here
10:17 AM Wolf__: I dont think i have seen a bench top surface grinder
10:17 AM gloops: i made a small bodged affair to site over my lathe, even that is very useful to have for the bits and bobs i make
10:17 AM gloops: sit
10:18 AM Wolf__: I have a nice tool post grinder for my lathe already
10:18 AM Wolf__: just need to make the tool post stud for it
10:18 AM gloops: that made different types of grinder, straight surface grinder, some have tool cutting ability etc
10:18 AM gloops: they..lol, typing a bit out today
10:18 AM Wolf__: yeah, I’m looking at a deckel tool grinder also
10:19 AM enleth: Wolf__: there are benchtop models, actually there's plenty of them on ebay.com
10:19 AM enleth: but they're all in the US
10:20 AM enleth: and sometimes one or two in the UK
10:20 AM enleth: I don't think any were ever manufactured in the Central Europe
10:21 AM gloops: can pick them up cheap here, i havent got room or enough use for one though https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eagle-surface-grinder/113145929212?
10:21 AM enleth: I can get a 1.5t grinder for scrap price easily, but I don't have space for a machine this big
10:22 AM gloops: probably not difficult to make one with a bench top mill, or even drill, do really need the magnetic bed though
10:22 AM Wolf__: this Reid is only 1600lbs/725kg
10:23 AM enleth: gloops: the Physics Anonymous guys are trying to build one, welded frame and linear rails
10:23 AM gloops: enleth doable id guess, needs to be rigid enough for the wheel not to chatter on the surface thats all
10:24 AM gloops: which happens surprisingly easily
10:25 AM rmu: physics anonymous?
10:25 AM enleth: I'm sure Tom Lipton could build a sufrace grinder out of stuff found in his trash can, but I'm not so sure about my skills in this area
10:25 AM Wolf__: lol
10:26 AM enleth: rmu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMmCgQFCXj8&list=PL1oDzvolGffK7IYgM4GWbYc8LAQUJxuWo
10:28 AM rmu: aaaah i remember i think i watched the lathe restauration project
10:30 AM gloops: and old lathe bed is probably a good start, with saddle, youve got the xy travel there on a solid base
10:30 AM gloops: move the wheel up and down to it
10:30 AM enleth: gloops: ah, that sounds like a reasonable idea
10:30 AM gloops: probably gear the z screw right down for fine adjustment
10:32 AM gloops: surface grinder (can be) very accurate machines, ive heard the lathe bed idea dismissed on the grounds that lathes arent accurate enough
10:32 AM gloops: suppose it depends what you want
10:32 AM gregcnc: a used lathe probably won't be
10:34 AM gloops: 3 foot lathe bed gets you a what, 12-14 inch cut as a grinder
10:36 AM enleth: on that basis, a DYI welded frame won't be accurate enough either
10:36 AM gloops: some scraping to do
10:36 AM gloops: or surface grinding heh
10:36 AM gregcnc: as always depends on the results you expect
10:38 AM enleth: gloops: I really only need a grinder for very small stuff
10:42 AM gloops: http://www.lathes.co.uk/herbertminiaturegrinder/
10:42 AM gloops: like hens teeth
10:43 AM gloops: but there are a lot more benchtop horizontal mills, easy to adapt
11:42 AM enleth: actually, just do an ebay search for "benchtop surface grinfer"
11:42 AM enleth: *d
11:45 AM enleth: there's a big selection of cute little benchtop machines perfectly suited to grinding very small parts
11:45 AM enleth: almost all of those in the US
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: makerman, bist du da
11:47 AM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel_, uns hats hart getroffen golfballgrosse hagelkörner haben die gewächshäuser zerstört
11:48 AM Wolf__: ok stack of bids on stuff, now hopefully I dont win all of them when the time auction shuts down lol
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: hi gloops
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, did the summer end
11:52 AM gloops: still warm here but cooler weather forecast
11:52 AM gloops: still no rain
11:52 AM IchGucksLive: friday is 95 F
11:53 AM gloops: fff hope not
11:53 AM IchGucksLive: Wolf__, better to order after
11:53 AM Wolf__: ?
11:53 AM Wolf__: its a business liquidation auction
11:53 AM IchGucksLive: after you koow a value of it
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: Ah then its best to be at side
11:55 AM Wolf__: the only two things I bid on that may have issue is a deckel tool grinder and a Reid surface grinder
11:55 AM gloops: if you havent got a nervous twitch lol
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, is brighton Steel insolvent
11:55 AM Wolf__: the surface grinder might mean learning to scrape
11:56 AM gloops: not sure about that Ichs
11:56 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, 112 mashines to be sold tomorrow
11:56 AM gloops: hmm dont know the company, doesnt sound good
11:57 AM IchGucksLive: 1000W Laser Cutter at 55000
11:57 AM gloops: a lot of these fabrication shops are upgrading to fibre lasers now, got to - or die
11:58 AM IchGucksLive: 4 Qubic meter Powdercoader 1200
11:59 AM gloops: sounds like theyve gone bust then

11:59 AM Wolf__: nice basement shop machine? https://www.bidspotter.com/en-us/auction-catalogues/comly-auctioneers/catalogue-id-bscco10103/lot-4ca6b266-cbc2-4afc-9c2f-a91801564907
12:00 PM IchGucksLive: 20 digital calibers 4 with acc and interface 35euros
12:00 PM * Tom_L blows the lunch whistle
12:02 PM gloops: if a shop with that equipment cant get work what chance does anyone have Ichs?
12:02 PM Tom_L: maybe they had too much
12:02 PM Tom_L: over extended themselves
12:02 PM Wolf__: bigger the shop, easier it is to go bust
12:03 PM Tom_L: definitely need savvy management
12:03 PM gloops: can handle bigger orders though, client wont use a small shop for a big job
12:04 PM gloops: never know anyway without seeing the books, owner might have just decided to sell up and move to barbados
12:04 PM Tom_L: not such a bad plan
12:04 PM Tom_L: for him anyway
12:05 PM Tom_L: gloops, i'm learning the limits on my mill
12:05 PM Wolf__: the last auction I picked up stuff from still had jobs sitting in the machines =/
12:05 PM IchGucksLive: maho mh 600E 2500
12:05 PM IchGucksLive: the lathe are all on orders and bits
12:06 PM gloops: Tom_L did you get it cutting steel at all?
12:06 PM Tom_L: turn the volume down
12:06 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUDHCXu4Pwo&t=20s
12:06 PM IchGucksLive: hermle uwf 900 3k
12:06 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIWKo-1HP3c
12:07 PM Tom_L: gloops i haven't tried steel since i did the strap clamps
12:07 PM Tom_L: but it did those ok
12:07 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't make a habit of it
12:07 PM Tom_L: the .250 cutter .250 deep was almost too much for it
12:08 PM gloops: pretty good to make a machine that cuts like that though
12:08 PM IchGucksLive: guten abend h_maximilian
12:08 PM Tom_L: i'm happy, just learning it's limits
12:09 PM Tom_L: that's a test article, i need to adjust the program slightly and finish it
12:09 PM Tom_L: but i think it'll be a good part
12:10 PM Wolf__: looks good
12:10 PM Tom_L: mostly just taking lighter cuts
12:11 PM Wolf__: beats my x1 lol
12:11 PM Tom_L: if the spindle was beefier it would handle more with no problem
12:12 PM Tom_L: i haven't stalled the steppers at all yet
12:12 PM Tom_L: done some stupid stuff trying too :D
12:12 PM gloops: thats ok then
12:12 PM Tom_L: the bench vise was in the way of X once and it just started pushing the mill across the table
12:13 PM gloops: probably go a bit faster with bigger spindle as well?
12:13 PM Tom_L: i'm sure
12:14 PM Tom_L: i'm plenty happy for now though
12:14 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
12:22 PM gloops: not moved mine for a couple of weeks for one reason or another, ill be back on it next week
12:43 PM Beachbumpete1: Tom_L you're a wild man ;) looking good in that aluminum
12:44 PM Beachbumpete1: you can spin that much faster no?
01:10 PM Tom_L: not the spindle
01:10 PM Tom_L: that's the spindle off the old sherline still
02:45 PM MrHindsight is now known as captHindsight
02:45 PM captHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
04:13 PM Deejay: gn8
06:33 PM Tecan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKueWzfmN_s ide like one of these vumps. 3d printed if i knew how it worked more.
06:36 PM Tecan: https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=venturi+pump&dwh=575b4d2ba5805e2
07:00 PM Tom_L: just a venturi effect
07:00 PM Tom_L: simple principle
07:10 PM pcw_mesa: yeah no secrets just the visible nozzle/venturi
09:55 PM Tecan: they are only 40 dollars at canadian tire, might go have a look
10:12 PM Tom_L: 40???
10:12 PM Tom_L: seems like alot for a simple venturi pump
10:13 PM Tom_L: that reminds me... years back i had one to drain the waterbed when they were popular
10:13 PM Tom_L: something like 5-6 bux
10:14 PM Tom_L: in fact this looks very similar: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-Magic-Waterbed-Drain-Venturi-Pump-Faucet-Adaptor-/253749872200
10:19 PM CaptHindsight: damned skeeters and yellow jackets are really at it this summer
10:19 PM Tom_L: haven't seen many of either around here this year
10:19 PM Tom_L: don't yellow jackets burrow in the ground?
10:20 PM Tom_L: i see plenty of holes for them in the back yard
10:20 PM CaptHindsight: cool front came through earlier tonight, I opened the shop door for an hour and we got attacked
10:20 PM Tom_L: they're mean little bastards
10:20 PM CaptHindsight: gotone buzzing me now
10:21 PM CaptHindsight: picked up a tennis racket type zapped, took 30 seconds before it proved worth $15
10:21 PM CaptHindsight: zapped/zapper
10:21 PM Tom_L: heh
10:22 PM CaptHindsight: and also one with a UV lamp
10:22 PM CaptHindsight: they love my monitors
10:28 PM CaptHindsight: had two big nests in the upper corners of the rollup doors
10:28 PM CaptHindsight: built them in days
10:28 PM CaptHindsight: not the hunter becomes the hunted
10:28 PM CaptHindsight: not/now
