12:00 AM Wolf__: welcome to these if you want them
12:04 AM Wolf__: alum one the fan is dead, pulling 1.4A @14v
12:04 AM Wolf__: on the heating coil
12:04 AM RyanS: 10W.. is the air too hot if your hand is about 5cm away?
12:04 AM XXCoder: could use pid with it I guess?
12:04 AM Wolf__: idk, that little pos I burnt my hand on because I didn’t notice it on the camera gimbal
12:04 AM Wolf__: bigger coil gets nice and red at 2.2A/24v dc, with no fan running
12:06 AM RyanS: I think the elements I linked is PTC and doesn't need a thermostat
12:14 AM Wolf__: this 10w thing I dont feel heat out of w/ the fan, but the fan is 5v so I cant push it
12:17 AM Wolf__: 10w chip heater was hitting 110C but thats with no fan...
12:18 AM RyanS: https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/enclosure-heating-elements/3604100/
12:20 AM Wolf__: if you want these two things let me know and I’ll toss them in the post for you
12:32 AM RyanS: cool thanks, although i'm in Australia
12:32 AM Wolf__: just means its going to take a few to get there lol
12:35 AM RyanS: if it's not too pricey to send it, wouldn't want you to pay for it if they don't work for the application
12:35 AM Wolf__: i’ll look up the postage
12:36 AM RyanS: cool thanks for that
12:37 AM RyanS: 3059 Victoria is my postcode and state
12:43 AM Wolf__: seems to be $14
12:44 AM Wolf__: from almost no weight up to 8oz (0.22kg)
12:45 AM RyanS: are they lightweight?
12:45 AM Wolf__: 0.07kg
12:46 AM Wolf__: the box I have weighs more lol
12:46 AM RyanS: just let me know if you want me to fix you up for the postage, PayPal etc
12:47 AM Wolf__: get your plasma cnc done so I have someone to copy =P
12:48 AM Wolf__: crap, I forgot to text the sword shop guy today to ask about the machine torch =/
12:50 AM RyanS: im stuck with analysis paralysis need to just dive into cad and revise it
12:50 AM Wolf__: I need to check my machine out
12:50 AM Wolf__: right now its inop
12:50 AM Wolf__: but I’m thinking someone dropped something on the torch lead
12:54 AM RyanS: the torches on the 300A machines have copper braided shielding sleeve, I guess that sort of current has massive EMI
12:54 AM Wolf__: well, yeah
12:55 AM Wolf__: 300A is a big plasma IMO
01:01 AM RyanS: hell have mercy on their power bill
01:01 AM Wolf__: at 300A of plasma, thats all billable usage lol
01:02 AM Wolf__: not home gamer hobby shop
01:02 AM Wolf__: I’ve hacked up 1.75”(44mm) with my 60A
01:08 AM RyanS: yeah I think we did 12mm but lots of 2mm
01:17 AM Wolf__: I wonder if machine size was due to duty cycle
01:19 AM RyanS: i think oxy fuel is still more economical for over 50 mm
01:21 AM Wolf__: yup
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: Bullrun Pamplona first day
01:22 AM Wolf__: most of my work is 5mm and 12.7mm so plasma is quicker and easier imo
01:27 AM RyanS: how come closed loop is good in EMI? something to do with the control algorithm?
01:28 AM Wolf__: depends, talking closed loop all in one like clear path or closed loop like analog servo setup
01:29 AM RyanS: stepper hybrid
01:29 AM Wolf__: clearpath type setup is going to have a leg up with EMI due to control signal is dumped direct at the motor/controller combo
01:30 AM Wolf__: least imo
01:33 AM Wolf__: stepper hybrid I dont know about, thats a step/dir controller w/ added feedback to Lcnc? or something self closed loop smart?
01:40 AM Wolf__: when i hear closed loop stepper now I think http://a.co/4TDyEpe type thing
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, morning
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, did you see my new plasma CNC at 680 Euro Build
01:41 AM gloops: the hybrid is basically a stepper with encoder
01:41 AM Wolf__: I know what it is =)
01:41 AM gloops: well the encoder info can be used the same as an encoder
01:41 AM gloops: any encoder
01:42 AM Wolf__: but having a driver box with meters of wire I dont see how that helps combat EMI
01:42 AM RyanS: I think the closing the loop between stepper and driver means the current is regulated and also the torque can respond to the load
01:42 AM Wolf__: that part is true
01:42 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, this featuers is also on the Low cost DM556d
01:42 AM RyanS: IchGucksLive don't think so
01:43 AM Wolf__: because the controller has the feedback from the loop
01:43 AM RyanS: i haven't seen your design
01:43 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXJYjE2y1lo
01:45 AM gloops: why would there be any need for extra metres of wire? the driver is enroute to the motor just the same
01:45 AM gloops: there might be a small amount of wire more
01:45 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, i got up to 10meters at the large plasma
01:45 AM Wolf__: on a plasma table gantry
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, 72V is hard to pusth at this length Double it in wire
01:46 AM gloops: you still have to get power to the servos?
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, brazil is out
01:46 AM gloops: yes Belgium did well
01:46 AM Wolf__: driver > motor/encoder, vs controller > one of them all in one is a advantage
01:47 AM RyanS: IchGucksLive is that an ohmic sensor?
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: sensor ?
01:47 AM gloops: i dont think it would any difference that would effect the design, regarding emi
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: its the GND at Torch Start above part
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, there is
01:48 AM RyanS: to detect the plate
01:48 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, it is a Huge Diggerence if you use M542 or DM556
01:48 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, it can fire the torque at free air and then go down
01:48 AM gloops: i think Wolf is saying that using a driver/stepper is an emi liability compared to servo
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: SELF ignite
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, at 220V
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, the plasma is a s-cut 50
01:49 AM Wolf__: well, more wires = more antennas
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: Wolf__, you got it
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: if you fire up in wrong conditions the PC goes off
01:50 AM Wolf__: if you can run shielded twisted pair direct to the motor/driver combo = optimum imo
01:50 AM gloops: that would be a problem if driver wiring could not be done to prevent emi - but it can, and is
01:50 AM Wolf__: power raw to the thing as well, get filtered by the unit
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: there is double shiled chain cable
01:51 AM Wolf__: I like the idea from a simplicity standpoint
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: Wolf__, but you need to ground at all sides
01:52 AM Wolf__: I’m starting to see why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmXoQwUD6wE type units make sense from a control system layout
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: my last big plasma got 8double ground clamps
01:52 AM RyanS: IchGucksLive yeah but do you use a floating head to zero the torch against the plate?
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: the big ones got 2 Z setups
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: with a switch
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: so you G38 down till it triggers
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: Benefit is as the THC fails it also can move 10mm
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: You can act then as you hear it touching at cut speed
01:56 AM IchGucksLive: RyanS, querry
01:58 AM gloops: Wolf configuring servos isnt simple though
01:59 AM Wolf__: i’m talking clearpath sorta unit
01:59 AM Wolf__: not full blown analog servo
02:00 AM Wolf__: where you are messing with the halls timing + encoder
02:00 AM Wolf__: and pids
02:00 AM Wolf__: with no autotune
02:01 AM gloops: Lcvette has been trying for 3 months and hasnt made a chip yet lol
02:01 AM Deejay: moin
02:03 AM Wolf__: is it a common servo driver or some old low documented surplus stuff?
02:04 AM gloops: not sure what type, he is having major problems
02:06 AM Wolf__: all of my servo drivers are AMC B25A20 which are very common and are OEM for a few big names, picked due to fitting specs + we use to have 3-4 people in here running them
02:33 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden
03:12 AM gloops: ive got some brake pads to fit
03:14 AM gloops: hmm, an hours job ordinarly, but this is a french van
03:15 AM XXCoder: so just threaten it and it breaks apart?
03:15 AM gloops: if only...
03:15 AM XXCoder: reality is that french is tough people lol
03:16 AM gloops: being french it will be an infuriating design, numerous sockets or special torx fittings stuff like that, at least 2 totally inaccesible nuts
03:16 AM gloops: need to remove many unrelated components to access the one you want
03:16 AM XXCoder: lol
03:19 AM gloops: ford escort you needed 3 or 4 spanners to do just about anything, 10mm, 13mm, 17mm, 21mm
03:19 AM XXCoder: I still remember my quest van
03:20 AM XXCoder: need one part replaced? remove air manfold
03:20 AM XXCoder: which of course needs 3 other parts to be removed
03:20 AM XXCoder: thankfully chain stops there
03:22 AM gloops: nightmare
03:22 AM XXCoder: you come in and see guy with piles of scattered car parts
03:22 AM XXCoder: "oh just needed to replace this $5 part"
03:23 AM gloops: the engines and suspension and so on are assembled out of the car these days, and pushed up from underneath, if you cant get the car in the air its difficult to work on
03:23 AM gloops: yeah i had a look at doing the clutch on a citroen, the speeded up youtube vid was still about 30 minutes long lol
03:24 AM gloops: just remove - everything
03:31 AM XXCoder: insane
04:35 AM gloops: one side done, thankfully not a typical french motor to work on
04:39 AM XXCoder: :)
05:45 AM gloops: well thats my productive deed for the day
05:45 AM XXCoder: awesome :)
06:48 AM Tom_L: gloops you don't need the car in the air... just flip it over in a ditch and leave it there
07:16 AM JT-Mobile: morning
07:23 AM skunkworks: mobile! I finally linux-ized myself. I ssh into my home media pc that is running irrssi. I use juicessh on my phone
07:24 AM skunkworks: But I suppose that doesn't work very well with sat. Do you have a static? is that even possible?
07:24 AM JT-Mobile: nice whatever that is lol
07:24 AM JT-Mobile: I'm in Houston till tomorrow
07:24 AM skunkworks: irrssi is a terminal based irc
07:24 AM JT-Mobile: ah ok
07:25 AM skunkworks: say hi to john morris? I think he is houston
07:25 AM JT-Mobile: wow Houston is so huge! and the roads are nuts lol

01:32 PM gloops: russia 1 croatia 0
01:51 PM skunkworks: 4 inch riser kit.. some machining required
01:51 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20180707_121142.jpg
01:57 PM amxen: hello
01:57 PM gloops: evening
01:58 PM gloops: what is going to be risen skunkworks?
01:58 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20180707_135734.jpg
01:58 PM skunkworks: I have a small cnc that needs some tlc
01:59 PM amxen: iv come here after watching a youtube video about my break out board . can some one help
01:59 PM amxen: its one othe the blue 5 Axis Cnc Breakout Board of ebay
02:00 PM amxen: i dont have any output from the board
02:00 PM skunkworks: amxen: link?
02:00 PM amxen: i have input on the pp port of 3.7v dc on each pin but no out put to the drivers
02:01 PM pcw_home: are you suppling 5V to the breakout?
02:02 PM amxen: its one of these
02:02 PM amxen: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1pcs-5-Axis-CNC-Breakout-Board-For-Stepper-Driver-Controller-mach3/263751035712?hash=item3d68c96b40:g:Qy0AAOSwuyNbHhtN
02:03 PM gloops: those are a doddle amxen
02:03 PM amxen: im giving it 5v input on the green block
02:03 PM gloops: plug usb in
02:03 PM amxen: not using usb
02:03 PM amxen: will it only work if i use usb 5v
02:04 PM gloops: have you tried the usb supply?
02:04 PM amxen: no i dont have a usb to usb cable handy
02:04 PM pcw_home: I think I heard that there are missing power connections on one flavor of those cards (not sure if it was the green or blue one)
02:05 PM pcw_home: The inputs need 12/24V to work
02:05 PM pcw_home: 12 24V power
02:05 PM gloops: hmm, i think the 5v in pin might need a jumper
02:05 PM gloops: has a light come on the board?
02:06 PM amxen: its the green one i have . i have a red light on it when i power it up . from the long green block ( same side as the outputs 0
02:06 PM gloops: https://hallroad.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/3518-1.jpg
02:07 PM gloops: im not sure if putting the power in that 5v in, will only power the output side, you need to get power to the parport side as well, might be the position of the jumper
02:08 PM amxen: from what i understand you can power it with 5v usb or 5v on the other side in the green block. iv used the green block as i dont have usb cable
02:08 PM gloops: Ichsguckslive uses these boards every day for building machines but i think youve missed him for today
02:08 PM amxen: on the pc5v
02:09 PM amxen: aaarrg
02:11 PM amxen: maybe i should try another board or the USB side. any recommendations for a board
02:11 PM gloops: those boards are fine
02:13 PM gloops: i use one for my router, but i use usb for supply, as i say you may need to change the jumpers to power from the other side
02:14 PM gloops: also, it may not be power supply issue, are you sure the parport is working?
02:16 PM amxen: iv tested iv got power coming in . im getting 3.7v dc on ports 2345678
02:16 PM gloops: ok
02:17 PM gloops: so you need to make sure the signals are reaching the board, from the parallel port
02:17 PM gloops: using linuxcnc? or mach3?
02:17 PM amxen: i get 3.7 left the 0 right then 3.7v up and 0 down etc
02:18 PM amxen: mach3
02:18 PM gloops: right, you installed the mach3 drivers?
02:19 PM amxen: is there drivers for the board . i thought it just needed the input to be going to the board . but no iv not installed drivers for the board
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: LPT port driver
02:19 PM gloops: not for the board, mach3 has its own parallel port drivers
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: configs for the LPT break out board
02:20 PM gloops: this always happens with mach3 thats why i dont like it
02:20 PM amxen: the computer that im using was used on my other cnc machine that i have now sold
02:20 PM amxen: im using the same mach3
02:20 PM CaptHindsight: and it only runs on winders
02:22 PM amxen: so the computer and mach3 im using was being used to power another cnc . So it should all be the same
02:22 PM gloops: well, if you jog an axis, is the voltage fluctuating on the relevant step/dir pins on the board?
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: I though mach3 support was only here Sunday mornings along with beer church
02:25 PM amxen: if i jog i get 3.7v on the board input but nothing on the out up
02:25 PM amxen: out put
02:26 PM gloops: so the parport is working
02:26 PM skunkworks: kinda like watching paint dry
02:26 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20180707_142525.jpg
02:27 PM gloops: but the signal isnt crossing to the output side - board power issue, it needs 5v to bridge the isolation
02:27 PM gloops: get a usb to usb and it will work
02:27 PM gloops: all night walmart might have one
02:28 PM amxen: ok ill try the usb . its strange that everything iv looked at is saying it can be powered from the pc5v
02:28 PM gloops: have you seen any mention of the jumper amxen? in your research?
02:29 PM gloops: i know there is one, maybe 2, id get up and look but the garage is so far away lol
02:29 PM amxen: no i have seen a jumper but i think that is to unlock the 5th axis on pin 17
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: skunkworks: what is the small mill?
02:30 PM pcw_home: Those breakouts do not have isolated outputs ( just buffered outputs )
02:30 PM holzjunkie1: Hy @all
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: skunkworks: is that the saddle?
02:30 PM pcw_home: the buffer chips require 5V
02:30 PM gloops: ok no i cant see a jumper on this board
02:31 PM gloops: you have grounded the 5v-?
02:31 PM pcw_home: YOu can check if the buffer chips have power by measuring pin 20 of the chip to ground
02:33 PM amxen: yes through the small 5v power supply
02:33 PM pcw_home: it may be that the terminal block only powers the step drive connections, not the buffers
02:33 PM skunkworks: CaptHindsight: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/GreenMachine.JPG
02:34 PM amxen: i think the only thing to do is try usb side
02:34 PM skunkworks: CaptHindsight: no - some cast iron we had that I am going to use to make a 4 inch riser
02:34 PM skunkworks: from an old grinder
02:34 PM gloops: pcw_home yes you need 5v to both sides
02:35 PM pcw_home: Yeah, so that suggests the buffers are powered by the USB side
02:35 PM gloops: ordinarily the usb circuit does both, i think putting power to the 5v pin only serves the output array
02:36 PM pcw_home: weird...
02:36 PM gloops: on the older boards there are 2 5v in pins, one each side, you can use only 1 if you fit a jumper
02:38 PM gloops: what machine is it anyway amxen?
02:38 PM amxen: its a grizly g0704 mill
02:39 PM gloops: excellent
02:40 PM amxen: converted the screws and mounts . just need to power it now
02:41 PM holzjunkie1: is it possible to use an usb mach3 mpg on linuxcnc with all features???
02:43 PM gloops: amxen on my board when its powered up, i get a green light - where the 12-24v marking is near the outputs
02:43 PM amxen: all i get is a red light
02:44 PM Rab: holzjunkie1, is this helpful? http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Using_A_XHC-HB04_Wireless_MPG_Pendant
02:44 PM gloops: i think youll be ok with usb supply
02:45 PM holzjunkie1: great thx
02:45 PM Rab: Man, sure hope nobody's using a wireless pendant for e-stop.
02:46 PM Rab: (Or wired USB pendant for that matter)
02:47 PM SpeedEvil: Wireless pendant for e-stop would be fine, if it was of the deadmans handle sort.
02:47 PM fragalot: Hey
02:47 PM gloops: i just make my way to the switch on the wall with one arm over my face
02:50 PM gloops: evening fragalot, England looking relentless today
02:56 PM fragalot: y'know what is relentless?
02:56 PM fragalot: this heatwave
03:00 PM amxen: ;;ok just been down and tested the power supply to the bob . now im now electrician but it should not be -5.3 v should it
03:02 PM amxen: im sure it should be +5.3v dc not -5.3v dc
03:08 PM gloops: one of the electricians here might explain
03:12 PM jesseg: amxen, I don't know what's been going on since I just popped in for a peek... but often when you read -5.3v instead of the expected +5.3, it's because you have the red and black leads on the volt meter swapped either at the meter or in your hands...
03:13 PM gloops: you might have the BOB wiring crossed + to -
03:14 PM amxen: no i check the ac Voltage and my cables are correct im a heating engines so do a lot of voltage testing. the leads never get taken out of my multmeter .
03:14 PM gloops: you use a phone charge for 5v supple
03:14 PM amxen: they are correct black on the ground and red on the live and im getting -5.3v dc
03:15 PM gloops: is this a power supply you know?
03:17 PM amxen: i bought it for this job off ebay
03:17 PM amxen: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-3-3V-5V-12V-24V-36V-48V-Universal-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply-LED-3D-PSU/151886747221?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=451076083317&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
03:18 PM jesseg: well I suppose from china they may have labeled + and - wrong on a power supply LOL.. but probably not..
03:18 PM amxen: iv disconnected from the bob and im reading -5.3v dc
03:18 PM jesseg: amxen, so double check your volt meter right off the output of the supply.. And if that reads backwards, check your volt meter on a 9v battery.
03:18 PM amxen: on the supply
03:18 PM gloops: jesseg thats what im thinking yeah
03:18 PM jesseg: ok check a 9v or 1.5v battery make sure volt meter is all correct
03:18 PM jesseg: btw what is a bob in this case?
03:19 PM gloops: if the supply is wire wrong, youll be feeding the wrong pins on the bob
03:20 PM gloops: i used an old phone charger on a breakout board, was fine, aboyt 5.5v i dunno 1 amp or something
03:21 PM amxen: ok lols like your correct leads the wrong way. i think im trying to hard haha
03:23 PM gloops: strange things happen to the mind during the lonely days in the garage lol
03:23 PM amxen: yer telling me haha
03:24 PM amxen: has to be something on the bob . ill try the usb if thats not a fix ill try a new bob
03:24 PM gloops: 99% the usb will cure this problem
03:25 PM amxen: i dont get the green light you said you get
03:25 PM gloops: red light typically indicates an issue
03:25 PM gloops: green for go
03:27 PM amxen: yer i think so
03:30 PM gloops: russia equalise after 24 minutes of extra time
03:32 PM amxen: whos from the uk
03:32 PM gloops: i am
03:32 PM amxen: was a good game today
03:32 PM amxen: we play one of these dont we
03:33 PM gloops: yeah not bad, england dominated for most of the game
03:33 PM gloops: we play the winner of this yeah
03:33 PM SpeedEvil: I am also, and have almost utterly ignored the world cup.
03:34 PM gloops: you dont sound british enough SpeedEvil
03:37 PM gloops: penalty shootout will decide
03:51 PM gloops: stunned faces in the russian crowd!
03:53 PM amxen: not got far to go home thow
03:59 PM gloops: they did better than they usually do, time to let the Misters play now
04:21 PM amxen: ok last effort disconnected everything from the bob. i found a usb usb cable . so i just had the bob connected to the computer and 5v with the usb but still nothing on the out put. tested input on the back of the board and im getting 3.7 v dc input but no out put even with nothing else connected
04:21 PM amxen: has to be a bad bob
04:27 PM amxen: did you get my last post
04:28 PM gloops: yeah looks like a bad bob
04:28 PM amxen: iv taken the bob out . found a usb cable and connected the bob using the usb with nothing else connected
04:28 PM amxen: still no green light just red
04:29 PM amxen: if i check the pins on the back of the bob input i get 3.7v but nothing on the out put
04:29 PM gloops: maybe blown something on it
04:30 PM amxen: should i order the same again or try something else
04:31 PM gloops: well, those bobs work fine - when they arent blown
04:31 PM gloops: i use one, a few people in here do, theyre prtty standard issue for stepper machines
04:32 PM gloops: you got the relay and pwm for spindle control etc
04:34 PM Deejay: gn8
04:35 PM amxen: not at the moment i was going to operate it manually till i get it converter
04:36 PM gloops: only thing is, getting one quick
04:37 PM gloops: a lot of the alleged UK suppliers are actually far east
04:37 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Axis-MACH3-CNC-Breakout-Board-Interface-for-Stepper-Motor-Driver-Free-UK-DEL/163120665020?
04:44 PM hazzy-dev: LOL, I got on my windows machine for the first time in a while, and it is stuck making that "ptuck" sound that plays when you change dirs
04:45 PM hazzy-dev: I should print out a pic of a machine gun and tape it to the screen :D
04:47 PM pink_vampire: hiii
04:47 PM gloops: hello
04:47 PM pink_vampire: gloops: long time..
04:48 PM gloops: hi yes, been wondering what happened to you oink
04:48 PM gloops: err
04:48 PM gloops: pink
04:51 PM amxen: ok gn
05:23 PM nallar is now known as Ross
06:04 PM hazzy-lab: Does Block Del default to enabled? Seems like it does, but I had not noticed this before
07:01 PM andypugh: hazzy-lab: I have never even used it, or checked.
07:06 PM hazzy-lab: andypugh: It is very useful, for example it you have two parts that are very similar, except one does not have a hole pattern, you just put a "/" before the lines for the holes and use block del to choose whether to skip those or not
07:10 PM Tom_L: hazzy-dev is that described in the g or mcode doc anywhere?
07:11 PM Tom_L: i've heard of it but never used it with linuxcnc
07:12 PM Tom_L: found it..
07:12 PM andypugh: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/gcode/overview.html#_block_delete
07:12 PM Tom_L: yeah, looking at that page
07:13 PM Tom_L: it _would_ be helpful if it said it's default state
07:17 PM andypugh: I thought there was an M-coe for it, but it actually seems to be GUI-related
07:18 PM andypugh: Or so the docs say
07:18 PM andypugh: So, if it it on by default in Hazzy then you might want to take it up with the developer :-)
07:22 PM Tom_L: generally it's a toggle switch on the control
07:22 PM Tom_L: but i don't know the default state
07:30 PM pfred1: I had an out of body autoerotic tool pr0n experience today
07:46 PM skunkworks: I just tried not to make a mistake today...
07:47 PM Tom_L: how'd that work out?
07:47 PM hazzy-lab: andypugh: Yes, it is on by default in Hazzy, and it's developer can't figure out why :D
07:47 PM Tom_L: what about axis?
07:47 PM Tom_L: did you try it there?
07:48 PM hazzy-lab: Nah, been being too lazzy
07:49 PM hazzy-lab: Aha! It is on by default in axis too!
07:49 PM Tom_L: meaning it ignores code after /
07:50 PM hazzy-lab: Right
07:50 PM hazzy-lab: But opt stop also seems to be on by default in hazzy, but not in axis, odd
07:50 PM Tom_L: that i have used
07:52 PM skunkworks: it is 'squared..'
07:52 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/greenmachine/DSC_8122.JPG
07:52 PM Tom_L: do you _ever_ play with small junk?
07:52 PM hazzy-lab: Nice sam!
07:53 PM hazzy-lab: What type of band saw is that? Does it have a rolling table?
07:56 PM hazzy-lab: Interesting, axis seems to restore the previous opt stop state on startup
07:57 PM Tom_L: huh
07:57 PM Tom_L: is it stored in the .var file?
07:58 PM hazzy-lab: In .axis_preferences
07:59 PM hazzy-lab: block del is also stored
07:59 PM Tom_L: huh
07:59 PM hazzy-lab: So I guess both block del and opt stop default enabled, but most of the time axis overrides that with
08:00 PM hazzy-lab: Seems kinda funky to have those enabled by default
08:22 PM `Wolf: ooo shiny https://i.imgur.com/ZxR7NbY.jpg
08:24 PM hazzy-lab: oh ho! Very nice `Wolf
08:25 PM hazzy-lab: That is mighty cute!
08:25 PM `Wolf: labored long hours of clicking order here, thats a saunders machine works pallet
08:26 PM hazzy-lab: Yes, unmistakable as a SMW!
08:26 PM hazzy-lab: What size?
08:26 PM `Wolf: 8”x6”
08:26 PM hazzy-lab: That's what I though
08:26 PM hazzy-lab: That will be very handy
08:27 PM `Wolf: when it showed up and I looked at it I instantly felt better about just ordering it vs trying to diy one on the manual machine lol
08:30 PM `Wolf: now to figure out why my vise is 0.009” out
08:34 PM skunkworks: hazzy-lab: yes - jet with a air assist table. works ok
08:37 PM `Wolf: 0.0025” of play 3” from the center of the x axis, I think my gib needs adjusted lol
08:48 PM `Wolf: wow, I knew I forgot something after I got this machine here, never fully checked the x gib… already moved it over 1/2” and its still not tight yet. Not sure how the hell this thing was cutting w/ any tolerances
08:53 PM CaptHindsight: https://imgur.com/gallery/Yew4AZ5
08:57 PM `Wolf: nice
08:59 PM `Wolf: I noticed before that one of the gib screws was a pan head with a washer, now I see why it was off, stock screw missing you can’t set the gib where it needs to be, smaller standard head of a m6 SHCS jams behind the gib and locks the table up
09:11 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/AhbREFt.jpg
09:11 PM `Wolf: I don’t think thats correct
09:24 PM `Wolf: wiggle wiggle,… 0.0003 +/- swing (0.0006” tir) on my X at the middle of travel, I think this thing must have spent its whole life in the same 7” section of the table travel
09:26 PM JT-Mobile: most production machines will wear out one spot
09:28 PM `Wolf: this was a home shop doing prototypes, but I guess the vise lived in one spot most of the time
09:28 PM `Wolf: not sure how it wore down with almost 3 thou of play in it
09:29 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/UHDJ7tP.jpg
09:29 PM `Wolf: and thats wasn’t at the end of the table
09:30 PM JT-Mobile: what kind of mill is it?
09:30 PM `Wolf: Jet 840
09:32 PM JT-Mobile: I'm guessing the ways are not hardened? dunno
09:34 PM `Wolf: not sure, gib might have odd wear on it from being loose
09:38 PM `Wolf: maybe reason to learn how to hand scrape lol
09:40 PM JT-Mobile: first figure out what is worn the gib or the ways, if the gib is a soft metal I'd suspect it first
09:40 PM `Wolf: it was stupid loose also, moved it in about 1/2”
09:41 PM JT-Mobile: well that could be true too, check the play at the ends to see if they are overly tight now
09:43 PM `Wolf: whats the amount of TIR at the ends of a 30” table supposed to be around?
09:44 PM JT-Mobile: I guess it depends on the machine, your measuring the spindle TIR?
09:45 PM * JT-Mobile has a long day touring NASA and is time to sleep...
09:45 PM `Wolf: just the table right now
09:46 PM `Wolf: was tramming in the vise and noticed that I was jumping 2thou when I bumped the x handwheel
09:46 PM JT-Mobile: ah
09:47 PM `Wolf: by jump,I mean the table moved 2thou and didn’t move back lol
09:47 PM JT-Mobile: yea something loose/worn... goodnight
09:47 PM `Wolf: night
10:12 PM justanotheruser is now known as swampmonster
10:14 PM hazzy-lab: `Wolf: Is there an extra zero in the "wiggle wiggle" values? I would pretty happy with .0003" on an old machine
10:15 PM XXCoder: jetpower!
10:15 PM `Wolf: did you look where I had the indicator?
10:16 PM `Wolf: its around 0.0003” if I tug on the X hand wheels lightly
10:17 PM hazzy-lab: That does not seem bad, (with the indicator mounted to the head) If the indicator were mounted to the knee then I would be concerned
10:18 PM `Wolf: knee was locked
10:18 PM `Wolf: and the Y
10:18 PM `Wolf: with the X locked the tir on the Y unlocked is 0
10:19 PM `Wolf: knee gib you can watch the whole thing tilt when you undo the lock lol
10:19 PM hazzy-lab: A locked knee can still contribute to a lot of play (at least it does on my clapped out BP :D)
10:20 PM XXCoder: have there been any good replacements to bp company?
10:20 PM hazzy-lab: XXCoder: Replacement parts?
10:21 PM hazzy-lab: BPs are still made, they are now owned by Hardinge
10:21 PM XXCoder: nah company that makes in least to similiar level of quality and such machines
10:21 PM `Wolf: knee is tight, like I said, same test point with the X gib locked, Y gib unlocked 0 movement on the 0.0001” dial
10:22 PM hazzy-lab: The new Hardinge BPs are VERY nice machine, IMO better than the old BPs ever were
10:23 PM hazzy-lab: `Wolf: Ok, that does narrow it down to the X!
10:24 PM `Wolf: 1986 machine, I guess I can’t expect the world out of it lol
10:25 PM hazzy-lab: It looks like it has been well maintained, certainly worth putting the time into scraping the X if you need that kinda accuracy
10:25 PM `Wolf: blah I broke my 1/2” edge finder… wasn’t paying attention and crashed it in to the vise
10:26 PM `Wolf: prior owner made mostly acrylic and aluminum parts
10:27 PM `Wolf: mostly really small stuff, electron microscope parts and whatnot
10:27 PM XXCoder: ow
10:27 PM hazzy-lab: Generally you can put the edge finders back together, sometimes a new spring is needed though, I find springs from a bic pen work well :)
10:27 PM XXCoder: mines standard starret one
10:28 PM `Wolf: snapped the stem
10:28 PM hazzy-lab: All three of my edge finders have bic springs,
10:29 PM RyanS: those electronic edge finders suck very fragile
10:29 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/zHEXUCN.jpg
10:29 PM `Wolf: skills..
10:29 PM hazzy-lab: Hey, that is plenty left!
10:29 PM XXCoder: as pictured, it looks HUGGE
10:30 PM XXCoder: like one inch diameter or larger
10:30 PM `Wolf: yeah no sense of scale lol
10:31 PM hazzy-lab: its hard to get the spring to catch with that little left, but you can loop some string though the spring and pull it out so you can get it started,
10:32 PM `Wolf: have to ge the stub out firstv
10:32 PM RyanS: any difference in use the starret style and this https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/M6925 I it's easier to see the offset
10:36 PM `Wolf: i could go overkill mode and break out the renishaw
10:37 PM XXCoder: interesting'
10:39 PM RyanS: a haimer would be good, but overkill
10:40 PM `Wolf: only have a renishaw MP1s here
10:40 PM `Wolf: no haimer
10:42 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/iXlVnfa.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vL5jtDf.jpg oh and a beat to death MP3 probe
10:42 PM RyanS: they want the equivalent of $670 USD here
10:43 PM `Wolf: eBay score, the MP1s + Mi5 <$200usd
10:44 PM `Wolf: even better the mp1 had the 3/4” mount on it
10:45 PM `Wolf: it has to be a shop spare, thing didn’t even have the pivot ball in it, was just foam ring between the probe and mount
10:45 PM RyanS: i bought a spot drill from the UK, still cheaper than Australia... including postage lol
10:45 PM `Wolf: lol thats bad
10:46 PM XXCoder: RyanS: I have friend in australia that used to order lego from me all time
10:46 PM XXCoder: even with crushing shipping prices its still way cheaper.
10:46 PM `Wolf: i have 5000 drill bits, not a single damn spot drill
10:46 PM RyanS: granted it was NOS
10:47 PM `Wolf: I have my tormach cart with $460 with of stuff in it, trying to make up my mind how much I hate my credit card lol
10:48 PM XXCoder: you have it so much, shred it. ;)
10:49 PM `Wolf: probably would be a wise move before I max it out w/ tooling lol
10:49 PM XXCoder: dammit
10:49 PM XXCoder: *hate
10:49 PM RyanS: I have some Chinese reduced shank drills, perfectly fine. not paying $ 60 for an Australian made one
10:50 PM `Wolf: I bought a bit of tooling, came with a free mill and lathe https://i.imgur.com/n0oIuey.jpg
10:51 PM `Wolf: better pic https://i.imgur.com/SUmjuJ2.jpg small envelops are all drill bits
10:53 PM `Wolf: + 2 metal drill indexes, grey drawers under my computer, #1-60 and 1/16-1/2” https://i.imgur.com/B8SInwY.jpg
10:55 PM RyanS: have mercy showing an Australian all these bargain finds, lol
10:56 PM `Wolf: just need to find someone that has 30+ yrs of shop that is retiring lol
10:56 PM norias: hi
10:57 PM `Wolf: I think I took at least 5 loads of stuff out in my car
10:57 PM RyanS: or dead and hope their relatives don't know what it's worth
10:58 PM `Wolf: nah, guys that made money with it are the best
10:58 PM `Wolf: they know all the shit is paid for 10x over already lol
11:00 PM RyanS: is this a good price? http://store.gaging.com/12x18x3-a0-precision-granite-a-grade-inspection-surface-plate if any place is good for shipping it would be LA
11:01 PM `Wolf: thats pretty cheap
11:01 PM norias: depends on what you want to do with it
11:01 PM `Wolf: enough to wonder if its really A grade lol
11:02 PM norias: sure
11:02 PM norias: it just won't be for as long
11:02 PM `Wolf: I need to get my plates all checked out
11:03 PM `Wolf: need to get my pink on a stand before it breaks the toolbox its sitting on
11:06 PM RyanS: well I want to check parts flatness, calibrate depth mics on gauge blocks. use a height gauge. problem with importing is. whos going to check it
11:06 PM norias: get it checked
11:07 PM norias: although, for that price
11:07 PM norias: kinda not worth it
11:07 PM norias: i think getting 12x18's reground cost me $60 last time i did it
11:08 PM `Wolf: mine is a 24x18x6 starret pink
11:10 PM `Wolf: and 2 12x18, plan to use one those for wet lapping
11:10 PM RyanS: is B still good enough for checking parts to scrape? or for height gauges?
11:11 PM XXCoder: can always send it to certification
11:11 PM XXCoder: you would know for sure.
11:11 PM XXCoder: B certainly
11:11 PM norias: RyanS: B is pretty good
11:11 PM XXCoder: well not for say .0001 +- tol something lol
11:11 PM norias: unless you are a calibration lab
11:11 PM `Wolf: cert and lap, suggested they come to you
11:11 PM `Wolf: least for the 18x16 when I called around
11:12 PM norias: that makes sense
11:13 PM `Wolf: I need a bigger plate for my height gauge lol
11:13 PM norias: don't we all
11:14 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/oapW32x.jpg
11:14 PM `Wolf: tossed the starting bid at it… ended up winning it
11:15 PM norias: cool
11:15 PM `Wolf: didn’t look big in the pics https://i.imgur.com/F1gHI66.jpg
11:15 PM RyanS: wierd height gage
11:16 PM `Wolf: its huge, 24” range
11:16 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/Z0OCw3e.jpg 6” mitsu next to it
11:18 PM norias: i've been kinda wondering
11:19 PM norias: why no one makes benchtop cnc's
11:19 PM norias: in a horizontal format
11:19 PM `Wolf: I know of one
11:19 PM norias: yeah?
11:19 PM `Wolf: limited function tho
11:19 PM norias: got a link?
11:19 PM `Wolf: ghost gunner
11:19 PM norias: what's limited about it
11:19 PM norias: oh, that
11:19 PM norias: eh
11:19 PM `Wolf: its horizontal mill, sorta
11:20 PM norias: yeah, sorta
11:20 PM `Wolf: hmm, mini horizontal machining center might be neat build
11:20 PM norias: i guess that kinda counts
11:21 PM norias: see, that's what i was thinking
11:21 PM `Wolf: avoid all the issues of flexy column
11:21 PM norias: right
11:21 PM norias: when i started doing the math on building a decent one
11:21 PM norias: it'd have to be more of a tormach competitor
11:22 PM norias: spindles ain't cheap!
11:22 PM `Wolf: use a X1/hitorque head
11:22 PM `Wolf: err
11:22 PM `Wolf: x2
11:22 PM norias: i'll have to look in to that
11:22 PM norias: i know almost nothing about hobby machining
11:22 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/jBjaRyg.jpg
11:23 PM norias: i really just started thinking about this
11:23 PM norias: because i have ideas on how to automate / do some lights out stuff
11:23 PM `Wolf: r8 spindle w/ no gear train
11:23 PM norias: and i realized i could test my ideas on a small benchtop machine
11:23 PM `Wolf: little machine shop sells the parts
11:23 PM norias: before i go and get something "real"
11:23 PM norias: hmm
11:23 PM `Wolf: my x2 build is a mix of parts lol
11:24 PM norias: i have to decide if ATC is important to my experiment
11:24 PM `Wolf: in theory thats a sub system
11:25 PM `Wolf: but you could put it on the r8 using the tormach tool holder
11:25 PM `Wolf: s
11:25 PM RyanS: $1000 shipping https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-x-18-x-3-Granite-Surface-Plate-Black/351811284846?hash=item51e9962f6e:g:lrEAAOSwc49Y7zkI
11:26 PM norias: yeah
11:26 PM `Wolf: ouch look at the chunks out of it
11:26 PM norias: i saw tormach has a BT30 spindle they sell
11:27 PM `Wolf: showing $98 shipping for me
11:27 PM RyanS: international shipping
11:27 PM norias: unfortunately, i don't think tormach's bt30 spindle is capable of doing atc
11:28 PM `Wolf: https://www.ebay.com/itm/351977658500 ask for a shipping quote on this
11:30 PM `Wolf: eh, why do a bt30 and have no atc
11:30 PM norias: right
11:32 PM `Wolf: makes more sense then R8 seeing there seems to be no spec what so ever for drawbar tension for it lol
11:32 PM norias: true
11:32 PM XXCoder: insane hack. https://youtu.be/hB6eY73sLV0
11:32 PM norias: but they are still using a threaded drawbar
11:32 PM norias: so...
11:32 PM norias: like you said, why?
11:32 PM XXCoder: he turns super mario 3 into flapper game.
11:32 PM `Wolf: they use spring washer and air cylinder for atc
11:32 PM norias: rigt
11:32 PM XXCoder: no flashing, literally exploits in game and inputting bytes one byte a time
11:32 PM norias: which is my point
11:33 PM XXCoder: 332 byte ow
11:33 PM norias: the one in the tormach doesn't do atc
11:33 PM norias: from what i can see
11:33 PM `Wolf: weird, I meant for the R8
11:33 PM `Wolf: I have been looking for what the tension should be
11:33 PM norias: with the r-8...
11:33 PM norias: i think they use some adapter
11:33 PM norias: for their proprietary system
11:34 PM `Wolf: yeah, its a 3/4” R8 collet with a flat face
11:34 PM norias: the tormach people make no sense to me
11:34 PM norias: their machines make me want to start a competitive company
11:34 PM `Wolf: I use the TTS with my manual mill lol
11:35 PM norias: really?
11:35 PM norias: lol
11:35 PM `Wolf: yeah, makes tool changes quick
11:35 PM norias: people make atc like systems for r-8
11:36 PM norias: replaces the threaded drawbar
11:36 PM `Wolf: except that I’m using a cordless 12v impact gun on the drawbar right now
11:36 PM norias: i know there are 2 or 3 commercial systems
11:36 PM RyanS: im guessing this will go for a fortune? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitutoyo-Digimatic-12-Height-Gage/223041122924?hash=item33ee49726c:g:J6IAAOSwbShbOW5y
