01:44 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: off 2 garden
02:11 AM Strum: hi
02:12 AM Strum: I'm looking at buying a 3d printer, they are cheaper to buy than it would cost to build myself it seems, can someone direct me to a godd channel that deals with 3d printing?
02:14 AM CaptHindsight: Strum: FDM (aka cnc glue gun)?
02:15 AM Strum: FDM?
02:15 AM CaptHindsight: what type of 3d printer?
02:15 AM XXCoder: #reprap
02:16 AM Strum: small general purpose one, mostly want to make electronic enclosures and mounts , t-slot extrusion joiners
02:16 AM CaptHindsight: 3d printing is a wide category of tech
02:16 AM CaptHindsight: #reprap is awful
02:16 AM Strum: smal extruder type
02:16 AM Strum: $400 bidget
02:16 AM Strum: budget
02:16 AM XXCoder: around chineseium fdm then
02:17 AM CaptHindsight: http://www.3ders.org/index.html
02:17 AM CaptHindsight: http://www.3dprintingindustry.com/
02:17 AM Strum: this will be my first one to learn with
02:17 AM XXCoder: good on engineering?
02:17 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.additive3d.com/3d-printer-comparison/
02:18 AM XXCoder: if so, $400 one should be fine, you are likely to need to adjust it some
02:18 AM Strum: i'm learning but don't have tools for precision work
02:18 AM CaptHindsight: https://3dprint.com/
02:18 AM XXCoder: or grab a super cheap one and rebuild it to your specs if have equipment
02:19 AM CaptHindsight: #reprap is full of con men
02:19 AM Strum: whole maker scene is imho
02:19 AM Strum: but so is the rest of the world
02:20 AM CaptHindsight: so do some research
02:20 AM Strum: i have been but you don't know what you don't know
02:20 AM Strum: it's heplfulk to get advice from experienced people
02:21 AM CaptHindsight: find someone to buy your used 3d printer
02:21 AM Strum: not easy around here, very few other people even know what one is
02:25 AM Strum: i was planning on building one, but it seems it would be cheaper to buy one than make it myself
02:25 AM Strum: and i don't have tools to do accurate work for all the mounts and joining parts
02:26 AM CaptHindsight: http://www.3ders.org/articles/20180329-could-this-500-open-source-printer-be-the-reprap-of-3d-bioprinters.html
02:27 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.3ders.org/articles/20140212-new-all-metal-printrbot-simple-3d-printer-unveiled.html
02:27 AM CaptHindsight: so you can give it to medical research if it doesn't work out
02:30 AM Strum: :)
02:33 AM Deejay: moin
03:33 AM holzjunkie1 is now known as holzjunkie
05:53 AM jthornton: morning
05:56 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton enjoyed split banana ice cream yet? heh
05:56 AM jthornton: not in 45 years
05:58 AM XXCoder: lol. not sure how long its been for me, but im younger than 45 :P
05:58 AM XXCoder: was kidding due to netsplit
05:58 AM jthornton: netsplit?
05:59 AM XXCoder: yeah irc servers issue cause some people to get seperated from others on channel
05:59 AM XXCoder: 6 people was split this time from this channel
05:59 AM jthornton: how do you tell?
06:00 AM XXCoder: large leave spam lol
06:00 AM XXCoder: example: <-- gimps_ has quit (*.net *.split)
06:00 AM jthornton: ah I don't see join/quit messages
06:04 AM Tom_L: morning
06:06 AM jthornton: was looking at the shower pan this morning and one side was up by 1/8" and not touching the floor :(
06:07 AM Tom_L: how did that happen?
06:08 AM jthornton: I have no clue, I dry fitted the surround back yesterday and it showed a gap on the right side and the left side it high
06:08 AM XXCoder: strange.
06:09 AM Tom_L: are the floor joist stable?
06:09 AM jthornton: yea
06:09 AM Tom_L: it didn't flex during the install
06:10 AM jthornton: everything was lined up with the match marks on the wall
06:10 AM Tom_L: huh
06:30 AM jthornton: yea and the left side flexes now too when you push on it...
06:45 AM jthornton: kinda nice outside this morning... I guess I'll split some firewood
07:23 AM Beachbumpete1: Good morning LinuxCNC :)
07:24 AM methods_: wud up pete
07:24 AM methods_: how's the router workin
07:24 AM Beachbumpete1: Hey methods
07:24 AM Beachbumpete1: we just received it last week
07:24 AM methods_: ah nice
07:24 AM methods_: what'd you go with?
07:24 AM Beachbumpete1: there is a LOT of work to be done to it before we can be using it
07:26 AM Beachbumpete1: We have a 5x12 CR Onsrud 24000 RPM spindle with 12 tool carousel changer mounted on gantry and a 9x9 drill block, it has 3 zone vacuum table and three 20hp rotary vane vacuum pumps
07:26 AM Beachbumpete1: we are still working on powering things in the new shop
07:26 AM methods_: wow nice
07:26 AM Beachbumpete1: we also plan to set the big vacuum pumps outside in a side building
07:26 AM Beachbumpete1: which will need to be plumbed for the vacuum and the power
07:27 AM Beachbumpete1: we are going to try the Mozaik software at least initially as we get going with the machine
07:27 AM sync: Good idea, plumbing vac needs big diameters tho
07:27 AM Beachbumpete1: been doing our first jobs with it this week as far as design
07:27 AM methods_: is that the onsrud software or something?
07:28 AM Beachbumpete1: no it is a cabinet design/cnc software that does some rather nice 3d renderings
07:28 AM Beachbumpete1: sync yeah it is like 3 or 4 inch pipe from the rack to the machine
07:28 AM methods_: ah ok
07:28 AM Beachbumpete1: we will be putting it underground
07:29 AM Beachbumpete1: the software is so far pretty good
07:29 AM methods_: so it will make the gcode for your panels too?
07:29 AM Beachbumpete1: it is subscription based
07:29 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah it makes G code for cabinet parts and can do other stuff as well
07:29 AM methods_: ah interesting
07:29 AM Beachbumpete1: we will be using Fusion360 and autocad for the more complex/non cabinet related parts
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: seems like Fusion360 is catching on in the cabinet world for things like that. A lot of folks use alphacam too
07:30 AM methods_: yeah
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: it is not good for cabinet nested parts really altho it can apparently do that
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: but for odd curves and 3d shapes it is great I think.
07:31 AM methods_: yeah i don't think i'd try to use that for nested stuff
07:31 AM methods_: but for standard machining type things i would
07:32 AM methods_: i think mastercam has a decent cabinet nesting software setup
07:32 AM Beachbumpete1: REALLY?
07:32 AM Beachbumpete1: I was not aware of that
07:32 AM methods_: yeah
07:32 AM methods_: one sec let me see if i can find it
07:32 AM Beachbumpete1: you have it?
07:33 AM methods_: https://www.mastercam.com/en-us/Solutions/Router-Solutions/Nesting
07:33 AM methods_: no i don't actually use it
07:33 AM methods_: https://www.mastercam.com/Portals/0/files/solutions/brochures/router-product.pdf
07:34 AM Beachbumpete1: honestly even if it did it is hard to compete with a cabinet design program that helps you create the cabinet in 3d and then outputs nested cabinet parts code
07:35 AM methods_: yeah
07:35 AM methods_: and spits out labels for all the pieces
07:35 AM jthornton: WW Wood Products is in the next town over and had a HUGE building
07:35 AM Beachbumpete1: https://i.imgur.com/v9cRw3W.png https://i.imgur.com/6xisZXj.jpg
07:36 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah Mozaik uses the print labels too
07:36 AM methods_: yeah that's what i was saying
07:36 AM methods_: i don't think mastercam will spit all that out
07:36 AM methods_: but i'm not sure
07:36 AM Beachbumpete1: ah gotcha
07:37 AM methods_: its nice for the morons with the staple guns if it's labeled lol
07:37 AM Beachbumpete1: hehe
07:37 AM Beachbumpete1: to be honest we dont have too many of those
07:38 AM Beachbumpete1: we are a high end custom shop and many of the guys here are VERY experienced and skilled woodworkers
07:38 AM methods_: ah well that's a good place to be then
07:38 AM Beachbumpete1: the ones that are not are the younger guys trying to learn
07:39 AM methods_: i miss woodworking sometimes but i definitely don't miss all the potentials for losing body parts
07:40 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah It can be dangerous but we have a lot of power feeds on the more dangerous machines so unless you are a complete idiot its pretty safe
07:48 AM Beachbumpete1: what are you guys up to in your shop methods?
07:48 AM methods_: not much just the usual
07:48 AM methods_: i'm workin on some crazy cyclone right now
07:49 AM methods_: for a fiber collection system
07:49 AM Beachbumpete1: you guys make them?
07:49 AM Beachbumpete1: we are looking into purchasing two dust collection systems right now
07:51 AM methods_: we make custom ones
07:51 AM methods_: we don't make a line of them
07:51 AM methods_: it's way cheaper to buy an off the shelf system
07:51 AM Beachbumpete1: ah ok
07:52 AM methods_: we make them to specs for customers who can't just buy something off the shelf usually because of existing infrastructure or specific airflow needs
07:59 AM Beachbumpete1: nice
07:59 AM Beachbumpete1: how much would you say your average system is for heavy chip collection?
08:52 AM unterhausen: does a fiber collection system require wetting the dust so it doesn't catch on fire?
08:53 AM unterhausen: we had a fire in the grinder dust collection system, but I think that was because of oil
08:55 AM Loetmichel: unterhausen: depending on what kind of dust it is you even have to take explosion countermeasures... remember the big wheat dust explosions in the 70ties/80ties?
08:58 AM unterhausen: yes, that's what I was thinking about. But almost any dust can be explosive
08:58 AM Loetmichel: only the ones that are combustible
08:59 AM Loetmichel: so any metal or organic matter... stone not so much
08:59 AM Loetmichel: and i can tell you from experience that metal dust/swarf fires are NO fun at all
09:00 AM Loetmichel: took me quite a while to get that titanium fire on the lathe extinguished ;)
09:00 AM Beachbumpete1: Oh hell yes you gotta be careful with wood dust it can explode like a freaking bomb under the right conditions
09:00 AM Loetmichel: and loooards of sand
09:01 AM Loetmichel: Beachbumpete1: it makes a nice flamethrower, too if you load an 1" pipe with some wood dust from grinding and then use an air gun to expel it outwards thru a propane torch...
09:01 AM Beachbumpete1: WOAH
09:01 AM Loetmichel: BTDT
09:01 AM rmu: you have to make sure that sparks are extinguished by sufficient velocity and volume of air stream
09:03 AM miss0r: hmm.. Any of you ever worked with electric clutches? Can I safely assume that even a reasonably sized 24v one will work at 3amps or less?
09:41 AM hazzy-lab: Strum: I recently got an FLSUN i3 printer, it is a very solid kit for the price (<$200US) and after some mods/tweaking is very capable
09:42 AM hazzy-lab: it prints mosts parts in PLA and ABS better and faster than our few year old Dimension sst1200es!
09:42 AM Strum: ok will have a look
09:42 AM Strum: thanks
09:42 AM Strum: good timing, just got in, had been afk 4 hours
09:42 AM hazzy-lab: https://www.3dprintersonlinestore.com/flsun-3d-metal-frame-prusa-i3-diy-kit
09:43 AM hazzy-lab: Haha, glad I caught you :)
09:53 AM Beachbumpete1: I have seen several of those inexpensive 3d printers on banggood and was leery of trying one.
09:54 AM Beachbumpete1: they looked almost exactly like that one
09:54 AM Beachbumpete1: now that we have the Fusion SLA here I would not mind having one at home to tinker/learn with.
09:55 AM rmu: i recently got a cetus3d, little bit more expensive, but has proper linear rails
09:56 AM Beachbumpete1: sweet...link?
09:56 AM Strum: isn't linear rail overkill for 3d printer?
09:56 AM Strum: not much load on the moving parts
09:56 AM rmu: https://www.cetus3d.com/
09:57 AM Strum: i've seen them
09:57 AM skunkworks: I bought a monoprice mini for playing. Happy with it.
09:57 AM Strum: nice design, clean
09:57 AM skunkworks: rmu: doesn't centus us its own proprietary software?
09:57 AM Beachbumpete1: is that thing as small as it appears?
09:57 AM rmu: i don't like that it doesn't understand usual G-Code and the software is windows only
09:58 AM Strum: no thanks
09:58 AM Strum: has to be open source if possible and respond to standard g-code
09:58 AM Strum: no propritry lock in thanks
09:59 AM Beachbumpete1: I was under the impression 3D printers did not even use normal G code
09:59 AM rmu: there is a translation software available on github but i didn't try it
09:59 AM skunkworks: I know that people sure like the design of the cetus
09:59 AM rmu: will probably replace the control hardware either way
10:04 AM Strum: if i'm going to buy somethin i don't want to have to fuck about with firmware and replacing parts
10:04 AM Strum: defeats the whole point of buying one instead of my origianl plan to build one
10:04 AM Strum: the cetus design would costr fa for parts, it's not worth $400
10:05 AM Strum: t-slot extrusions and short small rails are that about $15 an axis
10:11 AM hazzy-lab: On the very cheap printers the wheels tend to be better than the linear bearings. The cheap bearings are noisy and tend to have a lot of slop
10:13 AM Strum: yeah that's what i figured
10:13 AM Strum: and 2 rods is probably as stable or more so than one small rail
10:14 AM Strum: and rails are made to carry loads and aren't really needed in a printer
10:15 AM Strum: i'd want 2 rails and 4 blocks, 1 block on one rail just doesn't look stable enough to me
10:16 AM hazzy-lab: I think rods (either SS or CF) with poly bushings is probably the best way to go for most small printers
10:19 AM rmu: Strum: tinkering with firmware and control is the whole point of the thing, if i needed something for production i would get a formlabs or similar machine at 10×+ the cost
10:19 AM hazzy-lab: I agree rmu! Here is a torture test I did on my el cheapo FLSUN: https://youtu.be/8NggUsu9pak
10:21 AM Strum: wow that's fast
10:36 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
10:36 AM IchGucksLive: its hot in germany
10:37 AM IchGucksLive: .weather zweibrücken
10:37 AM theCockerel: Yahoo! Weather - Zweibrucken, RP, DE: Mostly Cloudy, 26°C (78°F), Humidity: 54%, Moderate breeze 6.3m/s (↙)
10:43 AM Strum: 26 hot, lol
10:43 AM jesseg: sounds just perfect to me
10:44 AM Strum: yeah 26 is about ideal for me too
10:44 AM Strum: 40 is not unusual here in summer
10:54 AM jesseg: hazzy-dev, what's the black and blue brick shaped module on the right side of the fan, mounted on the clean plastic?
10:55 AM hendrik_cnc: hello guys
10:56 AM hendrik_cnc: i installed the probe_screen a while ago and ordered a tool messuarement probe... but how do i set the height of my probe?
10:56 AM hendrik_cnc: better said, how would you messuare the exact height?
10:58 AM hazzy-dev: jesseg: That is the inductive proxy sensor used for auto bed leveling
10:59 AM hendrik_cnc: yes i have this: https://www.sorotec.de/shop/images/product_images/info_images/6865_0.jpeg
11:04 AM hazzy-dev: hendrik_cnc: I guess I would manually probe the table, and then place the sensor and see at what point it triggers, repeat a few times and take the average and that should get pretty close
11:04 AM hazzy-dev: I think you can set up the tool probe so it is all relative, then you don't need to know the height ...
11:05 AM hendrik_cnc: for the first messuarement need its height
11:05 AM hendrik_cnc: i
11:06 AM hazzy-dev: Ah, I guess you would
11:06 AM * hazzy-dev knows nothing about tool probes
11:07 AM hendrik_cnc: but i think your way is correct
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: hendrik_cnc, you need the diference betwen the tools
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: inside the tooltable
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: where tool 1 is your zero tool
11:23 AM IchGucksLive: as you dont worke with a probe
11:23 AM hendrik_cnc: i have a probe
11:23 AM IchGucksLive: or the probe is your zero on Part
11:24 AM IchGucksLive: so the tools are mesured against the probe
11:24 AM IchGucksLive: in length
11:24 AM hendrik_cnc: i tried to probe it in the probe screen but it seams that it does not set the z zero
11:24 AM IchGucksLive: what verion are you on as probescreen changed
11:25 AM IchGucksLive: hendrik_cnc, if it is only the length might be beter to get a short NGC that die the job
11:25 AM hendrik_cnc: should be the latest
11:25 AM IchGucksLive: with a entry field for the tool and then sets the tooltable
11:25 AM hendrik_cnc: ngc?
11:31 AM miss0r: Good evening
11:39 AM jesseg: hazzy-dev, sweeeeet! (re inductive proximity sensor)
12:33 PM _abc_: what are the plans for the next live linuxcnc release? What will it be based on? devuan ascii perhaps?
12:37 PM IchGucksLive: hi all
12:39 PM _abc_: hi
12:39 PM _abc_: The only clean option I see for now is dual boot setup for the machine, with some recent version of devuan as one option, and the linuxcnc wheezy with rtai kernel the other.
12:40 PM _abc_: oops
12:45 PM CaptHindsight: _abc_: many are just using preempt_rt vs RTAI and most don't care about systemd
12:45 PM miss0r: I just turned a brass plug 0.95mmlength 2.4mmOD...
12:46 PM miss0r: I had to do it twice, as the first one was lost in the chip tray
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: _abc_: Wheezy has just passed its LTS end date
01:03 PM IchGucksLive: guten abend Michael-gsc
01:04 PM Michael-gsc: hallo Lothar
01:04 PM fragalot: hi
01:04 PM Michael-gsc: ich hbe dir gerade auf deine Mail geantwortet.
01:04 PM Michael-gsc: ich habe dir gerade auf deine Mail geantwortet.
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: ok
01:07 PM Michael-gsc: Ich weis nicht was Messur ist und was bei der Fräse gegen die Uhr bedeutet.
01:07 PM IchGucksLive: privat sollte aufgegangen sein
01:08 PM Michael-gsc: ok
01:13 PM _abc_: Schickt euch je eine WhatSapp um zu erinnern dass man SMS geschicket hat, wegen der Email die man geschickt hat.
01:13 PM _abc_: -e
01:13 PM fragalot: _abc_: via IRC.
01:14 PM _abc_: yep. And double with smoke-signs in case there's a reboot in progress at the far end
01:14 PM * _abc_ is really allergic to something in this room, nose shutting down
01:17 PM Beachbumpete1: damn I got some issues with .pdf export in draftsight. The text shows up as little squares for each charachter and now I gotta figure out how to fix it. Any ideas?
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: _abc_, der schreibt immer das er in den chat kommt
01:18 PM _abc_: lol
01:19 PM gloops: cant save as svg Beachbumpete1?
01:19 PM _abc_: I am not amused by communications failures like this, I have this in the extended family all the time.
01:19 PM fragalot: _abc_: you mean the phone calls asking if you read that email yet that they sent last week that you replied to the same day?
01:21 PM Beachbumpete1: gloops our files are sent out to architects and draftsmen that work on these massive home projects and they typically deal in .pdf files for drawings for email simplicity
01:21 PM _abc_: fragalot: no, it's much worse than that, alas. And all are educated people.
01:21 PM fragalot: _abc_: are we somehow closely related?
01:21 PM _abc_: fragalot: tpyically asking 4 specific questions and getting one answered vaguely.
01:21 PM _abc_: fragalot: It is possible. I am a white human monkey from Eastern Europe
01:21 PM Beachbumpete1: abc LOL we get that CONSTANTLY
01:22 PM fragalot: _abc_: close enough. :P
01:28 PM IchGucksLive: im off
01:46 PM gloops: Beachbumpete1 if youre working for all these high end clients how come you dont know how to use the software?
02:15 PM methods_: Beachbumpete1: you're probably missing that font
02:15 PM methods_: you'll need to make sure you have that font available for the pdf export
02:16 PM methods_: or try changing the font in your cad/cam program to a more common font that is available to your pdf export
02:16 PM methods_: a lot of those architectural packages like to use whacky fonts
02:19 PM unterhausen: anyone using edge-lit led tape for a spindle light? Seems like it would work well
02:28 PM Rab: Beachbumpete1, try playing with the PDF export options. It may be that a setting was inadvertently changed, possibly related to embedded fonts.
02:43 PM methods_: ^^
03:42 PM Beachbumpete1: Thanks guys honestly the font was one I downloaded and it is native on my system now so not sure how that works with the adobe
03:43 PM Beachbumpete1: There are few .pdf export options in the draftsight setup that I can see.
03:43 PM Beachbumpete1: I tried a few with no succes
03:44 PM Beachbumpete1: wound up changing the font to ariel and it works fine now. I was using an Architectural cool looking font for our drawings and for some reason it worked previously and for this client it did not.
03:44 PM Beachbumpete1: At least we have had no complaints about .pdf files we sent to other clients
03:45 PM Beachbumpete1: we have also been sending our plans to a local printer as we do not yet have our large format plotter here
03:45 PM Beachbumpete1: they did not exhibit any of these issues.
03:45 PM Beachbumpete1: gloops are you just trying to be an azzhole or is this a serious question... SMH
03:46 PM Beachbumpete1: Work day is over now thanks for the ideas guys I really appreciate it.
03:46 PM Beachbumpete1: Cya tomorrow.
03:46 PM Rab: Could be software lameness on their end. Unfortunate that it ends up being your problem.
03:46 PM Beachbumpete1: Rab EXACTLY
03:47 PM Beachbumpete1: We toyed with the idea of trying to walk them thru changing their settings but it comes down to just changing our output for them is easier and less hassle
03:50 PM gloops: no i was trying to be an asshole lol
03:50 PM gloops: it just crossed my mind that the makers of fitted kitchens for the stars should know how to save a file
03:50 PM gloops: WASNT
03:52 PM gloops: i notice david ickes tweets are being deleted https://twitter.com/davidicke/status/1003725118898622465
03:53 PM gloops: these are dark and treacherous times
03:53 PM XXCoder: gonna love missing word that completely chnge meaning,
03:54 PM gloops: Beachbumpete1 is ok haha
03:54 PM XXCoder: who is that guy
03:55 PM gloops: think hes been here a while, he or his firm bought a big milling machine a while ago, and recently a top spec router
04:06 PM mase: Hi
04:06 PM gloops: evening mase
04:17 PM devlap: hey gloops, new control board came in, spindle spooled up just fine
04:22 PM gloops: nice one devlap
04:29 PM Deejay: gn8
04:34 PM gloops: so have you been cutting with it then devlap?
04:35 PM devlap: I turned it on, it sounded scary fast so I e-stopped and backed away.
04:35 PM devlap: I'll run it in probably two or so hours from now.
04:36 PM devlap: I need to make up a test pattern first in easyeda
04:37 PM devlap: I'm probably trying to push the limits of my setup to the farthest they will go from no setup at all.
04:37 PM devlap: Wanna kind of see where I'm at and how close I can get out of the box.
04:40 PM gloops: yeah, i always set my spindle running slow while im messing about with stuff before cutting with it
04:41 PM gloops: for a couple of minutes, to warm up a bit
04:42 PM devlap: yea im trying to cut .2mm pads spaced 0.5mm center to center, so .2 with .3 gap
04:43 PM devlap: 12mil gap with 8 mil left inbetwee
04:43 PM devlap: should be doable.
04:43 PM devlap: Not had much luck
04:43 PM gloops: sounds a bit finicky
04:43 PM gloops: what are those for?
04:43 PM devlap: LQFP IC on a PCB
04:44 PM gloops: oh right
04:44 PM devlap: I got other my traditonal stuff to mill, but this is definitely the smallest I've ever tried to go.
04:45 PM devlap: My spindle is pretty solid, and I got a good amount of weight to the machine so I think vibration isn't an issue. My issue has always been dialing in the tool and z height just right.
04:47 PM gloops: ive noticed a lot are using a triple edge finder on facebook
04:47 PM devlap: Don't have facebook, but haven't seen that technique use.
04:49 PM devlap: My issue is, my tool is pretty uhh, snappable? idk, I wouldn't want to use it to probe, but if I swap out the tool the height is off after probing.
04:49 PM devlap: and with the detail im trying to achieve, the smallest amount of z error is either air cut or deep in the work
04:51 PM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhmfnea0vVA
04:52 PM gloops: ive not used tools that fragile i dont think
04:52 PM devlap: 10* 0.1mm tool
04:53 PM jesseg: OK and then we, uhh, attach the banana plug, and then well
04:53 PM jesseg: :P
04:53 PM devlap: Although I saw I think it was a 45* tool and it was much more robust they guy seemed to have solid results.
04:54 PM jesseg: haha using an xbox360 wireless gamepad :P I used one of those for driving a little ROV around
04:54 PM devlap: What I think I want to do is aircut , and then manually set the Z 0.05mm lower.
04:54 PM devlap: until I start carving.
04:55 PM gloops: jesseg yeah i think these are the people who are making these edge finders - bunch of cowboys lol
04:55 PM jesseg: lol yeah
04:56 PM gloops: devlap hmm, how about cutting a slice of paper or something - you know the thickness of
04:56 PM Rab: devlap, is the tool a conical cutter, or an end mill?
04:56 PM gloops: can touch to it safely, then add the thickness of the paper
04:56 PM devlap: its a v bit
04:56 PM devlap: like for engraving
04:56 PM Rab: ahh
04:57 PM devlap: I've heard of like 0.01mm endmills hahaha
04:57 PM devlap: I can't imagine.
04:58 PM gloops: i cant imagine finding one of those again, once its been out of the box
04:59 PM andypugh: devlap: Maybe you need a tool-length probe?
04:59 PM Rab: I've used an LPKF PCB mill with conical cutters. 0.5mm pitch pads would be a challenge. The LPKF has an advantage in that the spindle rides on a steel shoe against the workpiece, so Z height can be very precisely defined and stays consistent.
04:59 PM devlap: Rab, I auto level, I have no problem with heigh consistency.
05:00 PM devlap: The first time I ran this machine, on USB no less, I had height problems with a gradient across the surface
05:00 PM devlap: when really flat - really isnt.
05:01 PM devlap: Maybe i'll try to get a 0.3mm endmill
05:02 PM andypugh: I saw a 3D printer today that is deliberately not at all flat. And it’s a brilliant idea: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/814534542/blackbelt-3d-printer
05:03 PM devlap: Oh the infinite volume printers? I saw one in person was kind of cool.
05:05 PM devlap: 34 dollars for an endmill im going to snap in 5 minutes.... nah
05:05 PM Rab: I advise good quality name-brand tooling. I've tried chinese eBay cutters and the quality was crap vs the LPKF tooling. I've heard these pyramid cutters are very good for PCB engraving: http://www.2linc.com/engraving_tools_pyramid.htm
05:07 PM devlap: thise doesnt look bad .125 shank, 2" 30* 0.005" tip.
05:10 PM Rab: An accessory that really helped with the LPKF is an illuminated magnifier with graticule. I think our scale is in two-thousandths of an inch (US here). It really helps to get a precise measurement of the isolation width, and tweak V-bit depth accordingly.
05:14 PM devlap: thanks I'll take a look at that!
05:14 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L: I figured out what caused the problem
05:21 PM Tom_L: which was?
05:25 PM JT-Shop: the 3/4 plywood swelled up from the moisture and pushed the base up
05:26 PM JT-Shop: I added some on the high end to take up space. Base came right up as did the mortar so I'll use some durarock tomorrow to build up under the base
05:29 PM Tom_L: not a complete do over is it?
05:31 PM gloops: seal the plywood with PVA first?
05:34 PM devlap: test pattern is 1/8th of an inch hehe
05:36 PM JT-Shop: I pulled up the base pretty easy and used a flat bar to lift up the mortar then busted it up and tossed it on the other pile of mortar lol
05:46 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop i always wanted to be a plumber when i grew up :)
06:20 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L: I don't want to grow up
06:21 PM Tom_L: me either
06:23 PM JT-Shop: anyway setting a shower pan is not plumber work, he only has to tighten up the drain connection then pull his pants up
06:23 PM Tom_L: naw, a good plumber leaves his butt crack showin
06:44 PM devlap: got my work piece situated.
06:45 PM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: he also has to plug it into the drain pipe in the wall/floor
06:45 PM Loetmichel: NOT funny if that end gets forgotten ;)
06:47 PM JT-Shop: when I built my house I forgot to glue a joint on the water supply... what a mess
06:51 PM JT-Shop: glad I found that before any sheetrock arrived
06:52 PM Loetmichel: JT-Shop: when i still worked as an electrician on construction sites a plumber forgot to solder a single copper elbow for the central heating... situated like all the other distribution pipes underneath the floating screed
06:52 PM Loetmichel: and then was to vain to pressure test before filling the system with water...
06:52 PM Loetmichel: WHAT a mess.
06:53 PM devlap: heh we would fire any sub showing crack on the spot.
06:53 PM Loetmichel: all the styrofoam had to be ripped out with the screed. all internal (8cm thick massive gypsum) walls had to be removed...
06:53 PM Loetmichel: in a NEW house
06:54 PM Loetmichel: and then of course reinstalled
06:54 PM JT-Shop: yea a pressure test on commercial is a must before covering up
06:54 PM Loetmichel: you could see the water rise in the gypsum walls...
06:55 PM Loetmichel: luckinly the outer walls of the house were made of aerated concrete ("ytong")... which is waterproof ;)
06:55 PM Loetmichel: and the ceilings/floors were 28cm thick steel reinforced concrete, so no harm done there either
06:56 PM Loetmichel: but all the interior walls and all the screed on the bottom floor had to come out and redone
07:01 PM Loetmichel: That was the same plumber that nearly killed a tile.layer in the adjacent room btw... wrong charge (for concrete) in his nail gun when nailing the bolts in for mounting some copper tube into an 8cm gypsum wall
07:02 PM Loetmichel: ... thats why we electricans used a setter tool for those nails that we pounded with a small sledgehammer instead of a nail gun... ;)
07:02 PM Loetmichel: also good for the bizeps ;)
07:24 PM devlap: ugh. Autoleveller is freezing on importing my gcode.
08:12 PM Vitran: It may not be much, but I got this spinning half an hour ago. First servo I got running https://i.imgur.com/qPhAnlt.gifv
08:12 PM theCockerel: Vitran: 2018-06-01 - 02:58:48 <CaptHindsight> tell Vitran How do you know how the drive is configured?
08:12 PM Vitran: Ah, well, yes
08:13 PM Vitran: I connected a USB to it and ran the program from Delta to set the parameters
08:14 PM Vitran: Next is connecting the servo drive to the encoders on the machine and doing some testing before installing
08:14 PM Vitran: Kind of exciting to be honest
