01:58 AM fragalot: Hi
02:02 AM gloops: so youre ready to start scraping then fragalot
02:03 AM fragalot: ready to start practising using the biax
02:04 AM gloops: whats the biax?
02:04 AM fragalot: biax scraper
02:04 AM gloops: oh right yeah
02:04 AM gloops: better than the other scraper you made?
02:05 AM fragalot: the one I made from an old file sucked, the one I had from hss is great for detail work, but not roughing, and the coromant one i've got works well, but doing large surfaces by hand is tedious
02:05 AM fragalot: so I bought a power scraper
02:06 AM fragalot: which takes some getting used to
02:06 AM fragalot: especially near edges
02:07 AM gloops: those look ok actually
02:07 AM fragalot: they'd better be ok for 3 grand, lol
02:07 AM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1-p-08bSSM
02:08 AM gloops: you are joking..ffs lol
02:08 AM fragalot: i'm not - I paid €361 for a 2nd hand one that looks like it's not seen a whole lot of use
02:08 AM gloops: is similar to a power carver for wood
02:08 AM fragalot: I have a power carver too, and it's VERY diferent in how it works
02:08 AM gloops: oh well that was a good buy i suppose
02:09 AM fragalot: the video you linked is a flaker, not a scraper
02:10 AM gloops: whats the difference though - the tip?
02:10 AM fragalot: the tip and the motion it makes
02:11 AM fragalot: the scraper makes a repricocating (sp?) motion only, and the flaker wigggles it side to side at the same time
02:11 AM fragalot: the flaker is designed to make controlled deep oil cuts in a half moon pattern
02:11 AM fragalot: and the scraper is designed to.. well.. scrape. :P
02:12 AM gloops: well youve got the right gear now
02:12 AM fragalot: yup
02:12 AM gloops: this mill better work haha
02:12 AM fragalot: still need to fix up the rf45 first & then focus on casting that base I think
02:16 AM gloops: the base is the pressure job id think, once thats done its more a question of when, than if you can do it
02:16 AM gloops: (complete the mill_
02:17 AM fragalot: yup, the 2 big casting jobs are the stressfull ones :-)
02:23 AM gloops: not much building activity here atm, i did have the gantry off the runners yesterday, dont know what it caused it to travel beyond limits but it did
02:23 AM fragalot: that's just a variation of crashing it
02:23 AM fragalot: and how I wrecked my first 'real' build
02:23 AM gloops: im going to put some physical stops on the ends - it crunched two of the bearing blocks
02:24 AM fragalot: (pro tip: don't make it so the motors are exponentially stronger than the frame)
02:24 AM gloops: yeah, with these motors theyll just miss when it hits a physical stop
02:24 AM gloops: it wont pull anything to bits
02:25 AM fragalot: mine torqued the leadscrew, warped the frame, and snapped a few bolts
02:25 AM fragalot: long live gear reductions, lol
02:26 AM fragalot: don't you have electrical endstop switches?
02:26 AM gloops: surprising how much force can be put on
02:26 AM gloops: yes its got switches, it was cutting and i was doing something else - turned round it was working with one bearing block over the end of the rail lol
02:27 AM fragalot: did they not trip??
02:27 AM gloops: nope - ignored them for some reason, when i set it right it homed back up to them no problem
02:27 AM fragalot: it should be impossible for them to be ignored
02:27 AM fragalot: so either they didn't switch, or you don't have them configured right
02:28 AM fragalot: might be good to force trigger one & see if the machine sees it
02:28 AM gloops: its happened twice first time i saw it coming and stopped - its only when ive used a certain setting on cam software
02:30 AM gloops: probably g54
02:30 AM gloops: issue
02:30 AM fragalot: even so, the limt switches should trigger regardless
02:30 AM fragalot: and, assuming you haven't lost steps, the soft limits in linuxcnc should not have let it get that far either
02:33 AM gloops: actually they are only home switches - normally it will just throw 'beyond machine limits' if you try running anything past it
02:33 AM Deejay: moin
02:33 AM fragalot: mornin' Deejay
02:34 AM gloops: which is why i think g54 was messed up somehow
02:34 AM fragalot: but g54 doesn't change your machine coords
02:34 AM fragalot: so soft limits should still keep it within bounds
02:34 AM fragalot: have you configured those?
02:34 AM gloops: yeah all the limits are set
02:35 AM fragalot: then either you've stumbled upon a bug, or you're losing steps somewhere along the way
02:36 AM gloops: ill double check those actually, i did have some last minute messing about with the config when id finished building, to get the XY 0s where i wanted, maybe overlooked something i did just to get it working
02:36 AM gloops: but normally - it throws the out of limits error
02:37 AM gloops: i think missed steps can be ruled out - 2 motors, it would jacknide if one loses steps
02:37 AM fragalot: ltrue
02:38 AM gloops: its only done it when multiple paths have been compiled into a single file
02:39 AM fragalot: weird
02:41 AM gloops: anyway have got plenty of spare bearing blocks so no delay
03:17 AM gloops: Melbourne car crash: Children among injured as Uber hits crowd in city's CBD https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/968720/Melbourne-car-crash-Uber-CBD-Williams-Street-La-Trobe-Street …
03:49 AM Deejay: re
03:50 AM rmu: gloops: most motor drivers have some kind of enable signal, just wire this up with some microswitches that get triggered 5mm before end of travel or so. never trust the software ;-)
03:51 AM gloops: yes i should do that rmu
05:54 AM TurBoss: Hello
05:54 AM TurBoss: I'm trying to draw using vismach
05:54 AM TurBoss: but I'm getting the following error
05:54 AM TurBoss: NameError: name 'Box' is not defined
05:54 AM TurBoss: is vismach a axis only thing?=
05:56 AM jthornton: morning
06:01 AM TurBoss: hello JT
06:10 AM Deejay: hey hey
06:35 AM TurBoss: this is the example I'm trying to run
06:35 AM TurBoss: http://dpaste.com/03A6X4Y
06:51 AM Tom_L: morning
06:54 AM jthornton: TurBoss: looks like the example in the documents has some errors
06:54 AM TurBoss: hmmm
06:55 AM jthornton: or rather some omissions lacking base saddle head and carousel
06:58 AM gloops: is there something, a combined monitor/keyboard, wireless, so i could still work from a tower but sit where i wanted?
06:59 AM jthornton: I've not seen a wireless monitor...
07:00 AM Tom_L: nor i
07:00 AM Tom_L: i've got a few but they're sitting on a shelf in storage with the cables missing
07:02 AM gloops: no i havent
07:25 AM jthornton: wouldn't it be nice to have a simple working example of vismach in the documents...
07:34 AM fragalot: hi
07:36 AM TurBoss: sure :D
08:08 AM jthornton: the documents don't even tell you how to load vismach :(
08:26 AM jthornton: can't get past NameError: name 'Box' is not defined when trying to run the py file while it works with python in a termainal...
08:27 AM XXCoder: bleh hate it when badly written guides if exist at first place
08:29 AM gloops: well, learn a little more - 2mm bit quite at home ripping mdf up
08:32 AM TurBoss: :((
08:38 AM gloops: some old bloke nearby has put a sawbench on ebay with shocking photo - no bidders last hour lol, think ill keep an eye on that
08:46 AM jthornton: you gotta love reading this in the documents I have no idea what this does, but it seems to be important for tool tip visualization.
08:46 AM jthornton: main(model, tooltip, work, size=10, hud=0, rotation_vectors=None, lat=0, lon=0)
08:50 AM miss0r: hello
08:50 AM XXCoder: yo
08:51 AM miss0r: My head might explode any second. or at least it feels that way
08:52 AM miss0r: Last night I held a nice bbq party. and it turned into a drinking binge at some point. So I managed to drink myself three steps down the evolutionary ladder...
08:53 AM miss0r: I have now spend 5 hours trying to make the backyard look a backyard again. A task that should only take 1.. But as it would seem, I have an extended need for sitting down breathing heavily today
08:54 AM miss0r: so... no caps please :P
08:54 AM XXCoder: lol
08:55 AM miss0r: I did manage to make some most excellent iberico ribs. almost 24 hours in the sous vide with alot of dry rub. Then I grilled them for 10 minuts with a good blask of sweet baby rays bbq sauce. Delicious! You could chew'em with your eyelids
08:56 AM miss0r: But you'd be surprised what a mess 10 large men with an unquenchable thirst for meat and beer can make...
08:58 AM gloops: well, i dont expect that much was actually drunk by danish men lol, but a good blowout does you good from time to time anyway
09:00 AM miss0r: Yeah, For me its always tough... I HATE having to take the train home at night from a nice party, whereas I enjoy only having to move my carcass inside the house afwards. BUT I do not at all enjoy going around the garden pic
09:00 AM phiplii: hum
09:01 AM miss0r: king up stuff the day after. Every time my head is lover than my shoulders on a horisintal line, I need to rest
09:01 AM phiplii: any bit twiddling tricks to reverse the order of three bits in a number?
09:01 AM phiplii: lol
09:01 AM miss0r: reverse three bits?
09:01 AM XXCoder: in what language?
09:01 AM phiplii: I've just worked out the easiest way - re-wire the hardware
09:01 AM phiplii: C
09:02 AM miss0r: like turning 00010011 into 00010100 ?
09:02 AM phiplii: I have a 0 to 7 value in an integer
09:02 AM XXCoder: I think >> << is c++ only but been a while
09:02 AM phiplii: basically I want to switch between lsb and msb
09:02 AM phiplii: yeah, I can shift, but I'd have to do lots of masking to re-order them
09:02 AM phiplii: and reconstruct the new value
09:02 AM gloops: mainly dehydration miss0r - drink loads of water and get some electrolytes down, lemon juice is a source
09:02 AM phiplii: I was trying to work out what maths tricks I could do
09:03 AM miss0r: so [1] [2] [3] should come out [3] [2] [1]
09:03 AM phiplii: yeah
09:03 AM XXCoder: wow almost 7 am!
09:03 AM XXCoder: night
09:03 AM phiplii: B00000110 would be B01100000
09:04 AM phiplii: night XXCoder
09:04 AM miss0r: phiplii: something like this? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4806167/reverse-the-position-of-integer-digits
09:04 AM miss0r: gloops: Yeah. I just to do alot of drinking in my young days. My day starts with what is essentially an english breakfast without the pudding
09:04 AM miss0r: lots of soda...
09:05 AM miss0r: and some lying down watching something of the tv
09:05 AM phiplii: I think just setting the bits individually would be faster miss0r because I'm working in binary anyway - was hoping there was an elegant "*-1" style solution...
09:05 AM phiplii: perhaps over hopeful
09:05 AM phiplii: re-ordering the wires on the board is probably the best solution
09:05 AM miss0r: ahh, indeed. I just thought I read something about integer somewhere
09:05 AM * phiplii I thought of it just as I was asking)
09:06 AM * phiplii goes looking for dupont wires that aren't all linked together in a block
09:06 AM miss0r: can't you just use the ^= operator?
09:07 AM phiplii: exor?
09:07 AM phiplii: don't think so
09:08 AM phiplii: I'm not inverting bits
09:09 AM miss0r: Meh. Don't mind me today. I should probally not even be operating a computer in my state
09:28 AM gloops: ive got some big chalk like tablets they give horses for dehydration, from the vet, about half of one before bed in a glass of water is great for hangovers
09:29 AM miss0r: :o
09:31 AM phiplii: changing the wire order worked :)
09:32 AM gloops: Effydral
09:33 AM phiplii: miss0r, PORTA = (PORTA&B00011111)|(stp<<5);
09:34 AM phiplii: with wire 0 and 2 switched does it
09:34 AM phiplii: (stp contains the current display digit)
09:35 AM JT-Shop: phiplii: morning
09:35 AM phiplii: hey JT-Shop
09:36 AM JT-Shop: hows the sick one?
09:36 AM phiplii: drank water on her own this morning
09:36 AM phiplii: still not eating much at all though
09:37 AM JT-Shop: I hope she pulls through
09:38 AM phiplii: I've put sugar in her water to try and keep her energy up
09:38 AM phiplii: since she's not eating
09:39 AM JT-Shop: I never would have though of adding sugar to water
09:40 AM phiplii: I don't want to stress her forcing food down her throat and it is too long since she was eating properly
09:44 AM gloops: has a vet seen her phiplii?
09:45 AM phiplii: Yeah
09:45 AM phiplii: they told us she'd be dead by the end of the day and wasn't worth medicating
09:46 AM phiplii: that was on Tuesday
09:47 AM gloops: well, there are some vets that do more harm than good in my experience, but some know their stuff
09:48 AM phiplii: I think these ones are better than the last
09:48 AM phiplii: she's... very tough
09:48 AM phiplii: and we've spent a lot of time hand feeding / watering her
09:48 AM Rab: What sort of animal is this?
09:48 AM phiplii: Giraffe
09:48 AM gloops: ruled out worms/internal parasites?
09:49 AM phiplii: (the above might be a lie)
09:49 AM phiplii: Rab : Chicken
09:49 AM Rab: ahh
09:49 AM phiplii: gloops, bacterial infection
09:49 AM gloops: no antibiotics, steroid injection or anything?
09:50 AM phiplii: They didn't give her any, but we have a full course in the fridge from when the last vet sold us some for another chicken which died before we'd given her the second pill
09:50 AM gregcnc: isn't a new hatchling less then a can of soda?
09:51 AM Rab: I had an ailing cat who wouldn't eat for a week, we thought he got into some poison. I fed him kitten formula from the grocery store with an eyedropper and he pulled through. The formula is basically condensed milk, sugar, and some vitamins. If the chicken can intake water, might be a way to get some calories in.
09:51 AM phiplii: gregcnc, isn't a painting only worth the paint and canvas?
09:51 AM gloops: gregcnc - sentimental value
09:51 AM gregcnc: my cousin worked at a hatchery, oops too many produced today down the chute into the blender
09:51 AM gloops: this isnt a battery hen, its someones pet, part of the family
09:52 AM Rab: I don't know if that formula is a good match for fowls' gut flora, though.
09:52 AM gregcnc: ah
09:52 AM gloops: gregcnc yes industrial chicken facilities operate like a death camp
09:54 AM gloops: traditionally nettle seeds are used for chickens gut cleaning, nettles arent seedin here though atm
09:55 AM gloops: ive tried various 'organic' wormers and things off the shelf, mainly useless
09:55 AM phiplii: she's not eating anything at the moment
09:55 AM phiplii: only getting her to drink with a syringe
09:56 AM phiplii: if you put the water on the edge of her beak it seeps in and she swallows it
09:56 AM phiplii: she's hungry - spends ages staring at anything you hold out
09:56 AM phiplii: but won't take more than a single bite of anything
09:56 AM gloops: any chickweed around?
09:56 AM phiplii: whats that?
09:57 AM Rab: Maybe there's pain associated with eating, like a tongue or throat problem.
09:57 AM gloops: small bushy kind of weed, they usually go mad for it, its high in vitamins
09:57 AM phiplii: Rab, yes, I think so
09:57 AM phiplii: gloops, she's off dandelions which is their crack
09:58 AM gloops: https://livesimplenatural.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/p1015881.jpg
10:02 AM gloops: well, the only other miracle cure i can thing of is Terramyacin, tbh i dont even know if its still sold
10:03 AM gloops: https://www.drugs.com/vet/terramycin-soluble-powder.html
10:04 AM gloops: have saved a few lives with this, its great stuff
10:04 AM gloops: including fish!
10:04 AM phiplii: :)
10:04 AM phiplii: next house I'm so getting a Dexter Cow
10:05 AM gloops: i think..if you dilute it with the water, it might just solve any bacterial problems in the crop
10:05 AM phiplii: Crop is ok
10:05 AM phiplii: her back end just hurts when she moves
10:05 AM phiplii: so pecking hurts
10:05 AM gloops: section on chickens and turkeys there, turkeys are far more susceptible to this kind of thing than chickens, they put it in their water as the norm
10:06 AM phiplii: (random picture off the internet) http://www.cascademeadowsfarm.com/sitebuilder/images/Jason_India-610x470.jpg
10:07 AM phiplii: pocket cow
10:07 AM phiplii: if I used it to tow a cart to work, I wonder if they'd let me graze it on the lawn outside the office...
10:17 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-White-Wooden-Heart-Shelf/192541415824?
10:17 AM gloops: wonder how theyre getting the heart shape
10:18 AM gloops: ive not seen any mini or midi cows
10:29 AM phiplii: steam press?
10:47 AM gloops: possibly, that might be too slow a process for something that cheap though
10:48 AM gloops: maybe hot glue laminate or simply pressed into that shape and glued/stapled
10:48 AM gloops: mdf
10:50 AM gloops: i noticed the bowed mdf kitchens doors are expensive, compared to flat ones anyway, i assumed the mdf material was moulded into that shape from the start - not machined
11:17 AM Loetmichel: https://youtu.be/NJfZnqWUgfA y- there is all my settings in the comments
11:20 AM Daxxin: helo
11:20 AM Loetmichel: https://youtu.be/CqXauMOhWos <- there is another with cuitting data... but that was with a fresh razor sharp twoflute and AlMg3... wouldnt risk that much DOC with a slightly dull bit or in a less forgiving alloy
11:20 AM Loetmichel: uups. wrong channel
11:21 AM Daxxin: pron channel link you sent ? :)
11:22 AM Loetmichel: nope. was asked question on how to mill aluminium (feedrates and stuff) over in #reprap... assumed that would be in the CNC channel
11:22 AM Loetmichel: hence the error ;)
11:22 AM Daxxin: can make that as honeycomb shape?
11:22 AM Loetmichel: its fan openings
11:23 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=16414&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <. thats the complete enclosure
11:23 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=16182&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
11:25 AM Loetmichel: was a custom 19" rack enclosure for an encryption server i made for the company.
11:25 AM Loetmichel: the sprit top and bottom are because the router was to small ;)
11:25 AM Loetmichel: split
11:26 AM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=16411&g2_imageViewsIndex=1 <- that 4mm back wall took FOREVER to mill ;)
11:33 AM gloops: only 1200mm/min looks quicker
11:33 AM * JT-Shop just found the missing tape measure that's been gone for a month or more
11:35 AM jdh: don't you have 17 of them?
11:48 AM JT-Shop: only 5
12:02 PM * JT-Shop needs to finish up the last 3 logs into rounds today
12:13 PM IchGucksLive: hi

12:52 PM phipli: I live in the city now. Not helped baling for...
12:52 PM Deejay: is that one of johns chickens?!
12:52 PM phipli: 14 years?
12:53 PM phipli: Deejay, back when they were chicks :)
12:53 PM IchGucksLive: phipli, manpower is always a issue so the ladys like to drive the big mashines 2
12:53 PM Deejay: hmm, did he eat all of them? ;)
12:54 PM phipli: Just the ones that tried to steal his beer
12:54 PM Deejay: oh, i see ;)
12:54 PM phipli: IchGucksLive, a family friend said all the young men from the town used to help, now they go to the gym instead
12:55 PM phipli: I learnt to drive in a pickup collecting small bales :)
12:57 PM IchGucksLive: phipli, here there are piled outside so underage people like to join 450HP tractors
12:58 PM Deejay: fendt, claas or john deere?
12:59 PM pfred1: I have a John Deere weed wacker
01:00 PM Deejay: nice
01:01 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
01:01 PM Deejay: n8 ich
01:01 PM hazzy-lab: nite
01:04 PM pfred1: well really i have two but I busted the shaft on one of them already
01:05 PM pfred1: brush heads can be a bit hard on trimmers
01:05 PM pfred1: I have a Sthil FS40 I think it is as my main string trimmer it has bicycle handlebars on it
01:09 PM fragalot: hey
01:16 PM miss0r: hello
01:17 PM fragalot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/JHvZoeXdnrWhvNl73
01:17 PM fragalot: feedback welcome. :-)
01:18 PM fragalot: miss0r: how was the party? :D
01:18 PM miss0r: please... no caps...
01:18 PM miss0r: looks good, the scraping
01:18 PM fragalot: miss0r: HOW WAS THE PARTY?
01:18 PM miss0r: >.<
01:18 PM miss0r: my head hurts
01:18 PM fragalot: lol
01:19 PM miss0r: I have drinked myself 3 steps down the evolutionary ladder last night
01:19 PM fragalot: nice
01:19 PM miss0r: huuman -> Ape -> partially shaven, somewhat trained chimpanzee..
01:20 PM miss0r: But at the moment, I have ~20 minuts to complete two brackets for tomorrow morning, then it is movie night with the misses
01:20 PM miss0r: if you have time available tomorrow evening, we can have another go at the VLT?
01:20 PM fragalot: if you promise not to start at 10pm
01:21 PM miss0r: I promise you ;)
01:21 PM miss0r: Somewhere around 8 or something
01:21 PM fragalot: k
01:21 PM fragalot: i think it's best if we start with something simple like just making it switch that relay
01:22 PM fragalot: figure out the logic of that SLC thing
01:22 PM fragalot: as for the zero point, that's probably just a matter of calibrating the analog input using it's min & max settings
01:23 PM miss0r: By tomorrow evening I will have evolved back to the point of a number typing ape. I will welcome the help ;)
01:23 PM miss0r: What are you scraping one there?
01:23 PM fragalot: my cast iron surface plate
01:24 PM fragalot: mainly as practise, and i think i'm starting to get the hang of that biax now
01:24 PM fragalot: but I made a big no-no that's halted progress for now
01:25 PM fragalot: I have one of those "stuart micrometer" tins, which i accidentally left open and placed right under the tool & cutter grinder right before I ground some carbide
01:25 PM fragalot: so that's full of carbide grit now and isn't going to go anywhere near any important surface >.>
01:26 PM miss0r: :o
01:26 PM miss0r: rookie mistake ;)
01:26 PM fragalot: Yarp :D
01:27 PM fragalot: I wonder if I have some latigo leather lying around still.. that biax could do with a new strap as the one on it right now is like holding 20 grit cardboard sandpaper
01:31 PM hazzy-lab: fragalot: When you get done there, could you scrape the saddle on my BP?
01:32 PM fragalot: hazzy-lab: where are you?
01:33 PM hazzy-lab: Atlanta, Ga, but I'm (partially) kidding
01:33 PM fragalot: then no. :P
01:34 PM hazzy-lab: Somebody should start a business renting out Biaxes, pay by week or month
01:34 PM hazzy-lab: I'd rent one
01:35 PM fragalot: ask on the practical machinist forums, see if you get lucky there
01:37 PM hazzy-lab: Thats a good idea, I know there are some folks with biaxes around here, just need to find them
01:38 PM hazzy-lab: Mr. King did a class here, but it was during my finals week or something so I could not make it. a fellow student said heck with school and did go, I should have done the same
01:39 PM fragalot: no you shouldn't have
01:54 PM hazzy-lab: They would have forgiven me, I was the top student in the ME and NE depts, and was chosen as top engr tech student in the state, so I could get away with a lot. Not that I would have abused that ... :D
01:57 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy-lab: Dept of No Effect?
01:59 PM hazzy-lab: Yep, that one!
01:59 PM hazzy-lab: No, Nuclear Engr :)
01:59 PM Tom_itx: seems to open doors
02:00 PM hazzy-lab: If you have a big enough a-bomb, yes
02:02 PM fragalot: aboms are so 1940
02:04 PM hazzy-lab: Most everything nuclear is 40s, the most resent text book we used was written in 71, yikes!
02:05 PM fragalot: anyway, why nuke when you can just fake a single event on social media & cripple the country without having foreign repercussions
02:09 PM roycroft: or get narcissistic despot with the mind of a toddler elected president ...
02:09 PM * fragalot is having a hard time finding 'canode' die spotting ink outside of the US
02:12 PM Deejay_ is now known as Deejay
02:12 PM hazzy-lab: fragalot: Could you use Dykem instead?
02:12 PM hazzy-lab: maybe more available
02:13 PM fragalot: I'm using something similar now, but that stuff gets EVERYWHERE and refuses to wash out
02:13 PM fragalot: using 'stuart micrometer blue' which is basically the same as dykem hi-spot
02:15 PM hazzy-lab: I think dykem is easier to use than canode (dykem is thiner so easier to spread thinly)
02:15 PM hazzy-lab: Try WD40 for clean up, works great!
02:16 PM hazzy-lab: It will even get it out of clothing
02:16 PM fragalot: i'd still want to get the canode for the hilight color
02:16 PM fragalot: at the moment i'm literally using red spray paint, wiping it off asap... works, but far from good
02:37 PM roycroft: for removing dykem, hazzy-lab?
02:38 PM fragalot: roycroft: Hi-spot blue, not layout dye
02:38 PM roycroft: oh, ok
02:39 PM roycroft: i was going to say that wd40 is pretty expensive for removing dykem
02:39 PM roycroft: and i'm not sure how well it would even work
02:41 PM miss0r: fragalot: I just used the last 10cm on my teflon band roll... Still need another 5. I need this working tomorrow morning. A pattern is starting to show here
02:41 PM fragalot: you've only just noticed that pattern?
02:42 PM miss0r: nope... I guess it is just getting clearer ;)
02:42 PM fragalot: why is it so difficult to find blimmin' water based spotting dye
02:42 PM miss0r: I could've sworn I had another roll somewhere
02:42 PM miss0r: why water based?
02:43 PM fragalot: because I enjoy being able to show up at work not looking like a smurf
02:43 PM fragalot: plus the wifey dislikes the blue stained clothing :P
02:43 PM miss0r: pfft.. You want to be a home gamer or a pro scraper?
02:43 PM miss0r: because then you need a grease based one
02:43 PM miss0r: either way :P
02:44 PM fragalot: haha
02:44 PM fragalot: I'd like to get both
02:44 PM fragalot: water based for the hilight dye, and rough scraping markings
02:44 PM fragalot: grease for final scraping
02:45 PM miss0r: sure
02:45 PM miss0r: Well, I may be out of teflon band, but I still have unipak grease & cotton whool
02:46 PM fragalot: same thing
02:46 PM hazzy-lab: fragalot: they'll just think you're an artist at work xD
02:46 PM fragalot: :P
02:46 PM fragalot: I remember first opening that tin of stuart's blue
02:47 PM fragalot: and it launching across the room
02:47 PM miss0r: you mean 'autist', surely ?
02:47 PM hazzy-lab: hehe
02:52 PM fragalot: y'know what
02:52 PM fragalot: if i'm going to order this from the USA anyway...
02:52 PM fragalot: how well does canode keep? :P
02:54 PM JT-Shop: I think I'll go saw up the remaining logs into rounds while the humidity is 35%
02:58 PM fragalot: miss0r: https://i.redditmedia.com/zPuEqBki4eyaaOWppW_r4IWe6ld_qzMrh9ao_li2ZdM.jpg?s=c33103382522430e3fd1bc7431f8fb60
02:58 PM fragalot: miss0r: apparently it was making a funny noise
02:58 PM miss0r: lol! Holy
02:58 PM fragalot: haven't seen planetary destruction like that since alderaan
02:58 PM miss0r: I thought I'd seen some fubar'ed planetary gears. But that one takes the cake
02:59 PM miss0r: Hey everybody! We have a comedian over here !
02:59 PM miss0r: :]
02:59 PM fragalot: :3
02:59 PM fragalot: I have my talents
02:59 PM fragalot: one of those talents is repeating what others have said
03:00 PM miss0r: indeed :] I have to run. See you around
03:20 PM fragalot: I love websites that send you an email with your login details and plaintext password after signing up
03:20 PM fragalot: makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside
03:26 PM pfred1: those are the websites that I use the password password on
03:26 PM fragalot: mine are randomly generated for each website so outside of that one it's useless
03:26 PM fragalot: but still
03:31 PM JT-Shop: firewood sawing is done for the year
03:34 PM hazzy-lab: Just printed this oinking pig for my nieces/nephews: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2881420
03:34 PM hazzy-lab: It actually oinks LOL
03:57 PM gloops: looks like old Trump is poorly, old war wound acting up
03:58 PM fragalot: 'war wound'?
03:58 PM roycroft: he claimed to have bone spurs, not brain spurs
03:58 PM fragalot: yeah but those got him to stay OUT of the army
03:59 PM gloops: flu-like symptoms, upset stomach, headaches, dizziness, confusion, and what Jackson called a “wartime foot injury that appears to be acting up.”
03:59 PM roycroft: oh, are you talking about when he poked himself while putting on that purple heart he scammed out of an actual vet?
03:59 PM gloops: sounds like hes been on the piss
04:00 PM roycroft: he's a tea totaller
04:00 PM roycroft: has been all his life
04:00 PM roycroft: no insult to tea intended
04:00 PM gloops: i dont blame him
04:01 PM roycroft: he had a family member who succumbed to drink or other drugs (i forget the exact details) and decided it's best to completely avoid that stuff
04:02 PM gloops: i suppose like most things, its ok in moderation
04:03 PM roycroft: yes
04:03 PM gloops: the german house painter was also teetotal
04:03 PM roycroft: it's also ok if you have an addicitive personality, realise that, and know that there's no such thing as moderation for you
04:04 PM roycroft: i have a lot of problems with our president, but that's not one of them
04:04 PM roycroft: it's also never an excuse for any of his behavior though :)
04:05 PM syyl: time for a small laugh :D
04:05 PM syyl: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jun/03/off-duty-fbi-agent-accidentally-fires-gun-while-at-denver-bar?CMP=fb_gu
04:05 PM syyl: is that considered stupid?
04:05 PM roycroft: no
04:06 PM roycroft: it's considered criminal, imo
04:06 PM syyl: i guess so, as he hit somebody..
04:06 PM syyl: but its so bizzare
04:06 PM roycroft: because the whole story (and i don't know if the guardian reported it) is that after the gun discharged, the agent picked it up and immediately left
04:06 PM syyl: you couldnt come up with such a story
04:07 PM roycroft: the dropping the gun and shooting the person in the leg may have been accidental
04:07 PM roycroft: but the leaving the scene is criminal
04:07 PM syyl: jes
04:07 PM syyl: -j+y
04:08 PM roycroft: does anyone here buy stuff from eastwood.com?
04:08 PM jthornton: I have in the past
04:08 PM roycroft: their stuff looks like it's just a tiny bit better quality than hf
04:09 PM roycroft: is that your impression?
04:09 PM fragalot: \O:
04:09 PM fragalot: \o/
04:09 PM roycroft: i need some buffing wheels
04:09 PM roycroft: and oddly, the ones that come on hf buffers are ok
04:09 PM * fragalot is optimistic so has ordered a one-shot oiler for his rf45 whilst it's in pieces anyway
04:09 PM roycroft: but the replacement ones are utter shite
04:09 PM jthornton: I think I got some powder coat from them a while back
04:10 PM roycroft: i guess the question really is: who are a pro-quality vendor of such things?
04:10 PM fragalot: syyl: the gun didn't go off because of his dance, the gun went off because he picked it up like a twat with his finger on the trigger
04:10 PM syyl: yes, can be seen in the video
04:10 PM fragalot: there's no excuse for that imho
04:10 PM roycroft: don't guns have trigger locks to prevent that kind of stuff?
04:11 PM syyl: thats safe and sane handling obviously
04:11 PM fragalot: roycroft: those only work if you don't switch them off
04:11 PM roycroft: if he was off duty and being a dancing fool, would it not be prudent to engage the trigger lock first?
04:11 PM fragalot: Yup
04:12 PM roycroft: so the discharge itself was likely not accidental
04:12 PM fragalot: syyl: would you mind giving me some feedback on something?
04:12 PM roycroft: it was negligent
04:12 PM syyl: wow
04:12 PM syyl: i give only negative feedback!
04:12 PM roycroft: perhaps criminaly so
04:12 PM syyl: ;)
04:12 PM syyl: go ahead
04:12 PM fragalot: syyl: Perfect. as long a it's constructive
04:12 PM fragalot: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOVGr7Uf6gsl2_GGxZ5caOfsNGspGq-z-SgGPU6NB6G2POdpOM2Wiqr_bbTeam3lw?key=c0lLYXVySThwWGZRUVNBRjIwZ0l3dXdTSGxqbC1R
04:13 PM syyl: yay!
04:13 PM * roycroft watchs an owl drop a red envelope in front of fragalot
04:13 PM fragalot: at which one of those pictures would you say it's OK to stop roughing & go to more targeted strategies, or am I still not there
04:13 PM syyl: cool
04:13 PM rmu: positive feedback leads to runaway and instability! ;-)
04:13 PM syyl: the 2nd one
04:13 PM syyl: doesnt seem like you have a large hole anywhere
04:13 PM syyl: at 1-5ppi you can go finer
04:13 PM pfred1: the Internet is on fire about Microsoft buying github
04:14 PM roycroft: my feedback would be: 1. don't use google for anything, and 2. use shorter urls :)
04:14 PM fragalot: oh right way sooner than I thought
04:14 PM syyl: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOVGr7Uf6gsl2_GGxZ5caOfsNGspGq-z-SgGPU6NB6G2POdpOM2Wiqr_bbTeam3lw/photo/AF1QipMiVgob0HGqE1MAUE__KjSK4Ayp70_yBmv34-m3?key=c0lLYXVySThwWGZRUVNBRjIwZ0l3dXdTSGxqbC1R
04:14 PM syyl: here you definetly can go finer
04:14 PM syyl: what are yu using as a master? a granit plate?
04:14 PM fragalot: class 00 granite
04:14 PM syyl: :)
04:15 PM fragalot: but I ruined my blueing compound by being an idiot :-)
04:15 PM syyl: do you have the screw on the biax clamped down very hard?
04:15 PM syyl: that holds the blade
04:15 PM fragalot: not hard enough to damage the screw, but tight
04:15 PM syyl: dont :)
04:15 PM syyl: just enough so the blade does not fall out on its own
04:15 PM fragalot: as in don't bottom it out at all?
04:15 PM syyl: there is a rubber block in there
04:16 PM syyl: and the blade will be able to flex/spring a bit
04:16 PM fragalot: interesting
04:16 PM syyl: prevents chatter
04:16 PM fragalot: ty
04:16 PM syyl: and try to get the longer blades
04:16 PM syyl: those short ones are a bear to handle
04:16 PM syyl: they tend to chatter
04:16 PM XXCoder: steel surface plate?
04:16 PM fragalot: yeah i've been looking.. I want to get 2 more
04:16 PM fragalot: longer & with different radiusses
04:17 PM syyl: if you can braze, make them yourself :D
04:17 PM fragalot: current one started life as a 60mm, but it seems that the previous owner liked 100mm more, so i've kept that
04:17 PM syyl: 100 is good for heavy roughing
04:17 PM syyl: at this point i would defintely go for 60
04:17 PM XXCoder: I hate image viewers that control image size. I have decent builtin zoom functions already
04:17 PM fragalot: yeah I can braze one, hence me asking if it had to be spring steel earlier ;-)
04:18 PM syyl: ha! i remember :D
04:18 PM fragalot: I'm also going to be remaking the leather strap
04:18 PM fragalot: the current one is hard as cardboard and feels like dragging your knuckles against 40grit paper
04:18 PM fragalot: even with gloves on
04:19 PM syyl: hrhr
04:20 PM pfred1: I just had to throw out an old leather holder
04:21 PM fragalot: syyl: anyway, the idiot part: don't put the tin of stuart's blue open under your deckel grinder, even if that looks like a good spot to put it for a few minutes.
04:21 PM syyl: urgs
04:21 PM syyl: now you have blue lapping compound
04:22 PM fragalot: yup :P
04:22 PM fragalot: one that refuses to clean off properly too
04:22 PM syyl: :D
04:24 PM fragalot: syyl: how are you liking that 6jaw chuck? does it stay relatively centered at the different opening sizes, or is it all over the place?
04:25 PM syyl: its pretty darn close over the whole range
04:25 PM fragalot: sweet
04:25 PM syyl: maybe within 5/100mm
04:25 PM fragalot: close enough.
04:34 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.imgur.com/7pdcq0N.jpg
04:34 PM syyl: that is so beautyfull
04:34 PM syyl: have you ever seen old wiring with rigid wire?
04:34 PM fragalot: seen & done.
04:35 PM syyl: :)
04:39 PM pfred1: it'd be nicer with troughs
04:42 PM fragalot: certainly easier for future electricians, but not 'nicer' perse
04:42 PM pfred1: I just like how troughs look
04:43 PM pfred1: I was never a bit fan of ty wraps
04:43 PM pfred1: big fan even
04:43 PM Rab: Yeah, -10 points for zip ties instead of cable lacing.
04:43 PM fragalot: i've seen the inside of them enough to know that they often have ty wraps on the inside of them to keep all of the wires from just spilling out the first chance they get :P
04:43 PM fragalot: granted, they're typically a loose loop
04:44 PM fragalot: also - this is a permanent installation
04:44 PM fragalot: nothing wrong with zip ties
04:44 PM pfred1: yeah i just uses a loose ty wrap in my PC to keep the video card cable off my CPU heat sink
04:45 PM fragalot: Rab: does anyone still do that? :P
04:45 PM pfred1: it probably would have been OK stuck in the fins but I just didn't like the idea
04:46 PM pfred1: cable management
04:46 PM pfred1: fragalot I did a variety of it
04:48 PM pfred1: fragalot this is a real tight lacing http://i.imgur.com/KKL8nGG.jpg
04:48 PM fragalot: at what point would you switch over to a cable sock?
04:49 PM pfred1: fragalot at the point where i had a cable sock
04:49 PM pfred1: I had a pile of string I pulled off kitty litter bags
04:49 PM pfred1: so I used that
04:49 PM fragalot: lacing that tight just looks like such a waste of time for everyone involved :P
04:49 PM pfred1: it didn'
04:49 PM pfred1: it didn't take that long
04:50 PM pfred1: I found the work very theraputic too
04:50 PM pfred1: 4 counductor wires just are not common
04:51 PM pfred1: so I stripped a bunch of IEC power cables and made my own out of that
04:51 PM fragalot: they are, problem is one of them is typically always green/yellow :P
04:51 PM pfred1: I wouldn't care what colors they were
04:51 PM fragalot: in that case it's very easy to find
04:51 PM pfred1: one wire i used was a green yellow
04:52 PM pfred1: I have no 4 conductor wire lying around here
04:52 PM fragalot: that's an entirely different scenario :-)
04:52 PM pfred1: a lot of 3 but no 4
04:57 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-03/microsoft-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-acquire-coding-site-github
04:57 PM CaptHindsight: prepare for the exodus
04:59 PM fragalot: kinda expected.. microsoft's been pushing their VSTS platform that uses git for a while now
05:00 PM CaptHindsight: official now
05:00 PM CaptHindsight: thata all
05:03 PM pfred1: the end is nigh!
05:04 PM Deejay: gn8
05:11 PM roycroft: you have to look far, far behind you to see the end
05:12 PM roycroft: the end arrived when the internet went commercial
05:16 PM XXCoder: https://boingboing.net/2018/05/31/this-four-layer-vase-took-a-ma.html insane

05:39 PM Tecan: too bad about the mounting upside down part
05:41 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWKUFK7MWvg wow
05:46 PM DaViruz: that seems a bit too amazing
05:47 PM XXCoder: possibly. dunno
05:47 PM DaViruz: otoh all the code is available on their site
06:29 PM rmu: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-03/microsoft-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-acquire-coding-site-github?
06:44 PM hazzy-lab: Shoot, github is basically the only code hosing site left that has not been f'd up
06:45 PM hazzy-lab: GitLab is ok, but ...
07:12 PM XXCoder: what a joke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxM55DNS9CE

08:32 PM Tecan: have you tried liquifix ? looks very good
08:32 PM Tom_itx: no
08:32 PM Tom_itx: just googled
08:34 PM Tecan: i would imagine threadrod not liking machine grease. it would gunk up eventually and be hard to turn
08:35 PM Tom_itx: i use vactra 2 on my mill
08:37 PM CaptHindsight: what does it taste like?
08:37 PM Tom_itx: yummy
08:38 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
08:51 PM jdh: tastes like vactra 1 but with a hint of citrus and earthtones
09:33 PM hazzy-lab: jdh you would be a great wine taster
10:25 PM CaptHindsight: whine taster?
