12:47 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
01:10 AM IchGucksLive: morning from rainy germanya
01:12 AM flyback: cool
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: flyback, cool is relative
01:23 AM fragalot_: miss0r|office: https://imgur.com/gallery/HqGKJYN
01:26 AM flyback: cool is not fucking uCUNTU 18.4 that keeps bombing hexchat
01:26 AM flyback: downgrading tomarrow night
01:27 AM flyback: Hey Jymmm ltns
02:22 AM Deejay: moin
02:31 AM gloops: hmm, bit windy and cooler today, i was gonna weld my lathe up
02:31 AM gloops: typical been perfect on the days i didnt have time
02:33 AM gloops: strategy, grind out crack both sides to 4mm or so
02:34 AM gloops: steel box with barbecue charcoal, propane torch on top, heat slide up to beginning of redness
02:34 AM gloops: weld
02:34 AM gloops: keep fire going, cover, allow to cook and let temperature fall off as charcoal burns out
05:53 AM jthornton: welding cast iron
05:53 AM jthornton: ?
05:54 AM SpeedEvil: jthornton: yes
05:55 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jqML4oo1RI I recently watched.
05:56 AM jthornton: An error occurred during a connection to www.youtube.com. SSL received a malformed Server Hello handshake message. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_MALFORMED_SERVER_HELLO
05:56 AM SpeedEvil: In short - nickel electrode (probably), grind out, weld tiny bit, peen, repeat. Or heat whole work very hot then weld it in a big lump
05:57 AM jthornton: that's what I do weld a tiny bit and peen the weld wait till cool weld a bit more
05:58 AM jthornton: gotta love someone that just experimented with welding cast iron and now is a putube expert lol
05:58 AM XXCoder: lol
05:58 AM SpeedEvil: I'm not saying he's an expert.
05:58 AM SpeedEvil: He's mostly entertaining and does stuff.
05:59 AM jthornton: he spent too much time on the intro for me lol
06:01 AM * SpeedEvil idly wonders if you can do cast iron thermite.
06:02 AM SpeedEvil: (that is, thermite that results in cast iron)
06:02 AM XXCoder: jthornton: part 2, just face video
06:02 AM XXCoder: and some random wandering camera
06:02 AM XXCoder: color balance is way off
06:02 AM XXCoder: *part 1
06:07 AM jthornton: XXCoder: why is your room so hot? no AC?
06:08 AM XXCoder: no isulation
06:08 AM XXCoder: right now its ok but its because outside is cool and it wasnt hot during day
06:08 AM jthornton: ah
06:11 AM XXCoder: well there is isulation
06:11 AM XXCoder: its just less than half inch and made from what appears to be paper
06:13 AM jthornton: I seem to remember some paper insulation from a long time ago
06:13 AM XXCoder: in least its not abestos
06:13 AM XXCoder: only thing ponentally dangerous in this house is lead paint, if any
06:16 AM jthornton: yea just don't eat any of it
06:17 AM XXCoder: https://i.imgur.com/dfZlCaW.jpg
06:22 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest46600
06:27 AM Tom_L: paper then rockwool then fiberglass
06:31 AM XXCoder: too bad abesto is very bad for health
06:31 AM XXCoder: its such a great isulator.
06:32 AM XXCoder: but then we got even better coming. one so good torch can be on one side, and other ice and ice isnt melting
06:32 AM XXCoder: (besides from warm air that side)
06:56 AM RyanS: http://www.plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=25645
06:57 AM miss0r: Trip to germany delayed a day, because the truck ordered to haul the cnc lathe, was too narrow to have it :] bleh. I drove ~100km before getting the phonecall to turn back.. *sigh*
07:02 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
07:11 AM Beachbumpete1: Good Morning LinuxCNC
07:21 AM jthornton: morning Pete
07:25 AM Beachbumpete1: how are ya JT
07:27 AM jthornton: doing good and you ?
07:31 AM jthornton: going to rip out the jacuzzi tub tomorrow and start the bathroom remodel
07:39 AM RyanS: this seemed initially to be a good idea, but I don't like the idea of radial loads applied to torch http://plasmaspider.com/shop/easyscriber.html
07:47 AM Beachbumpete1: doing pretty good. we just unloaded the new VF4 yesterday. expecting the 6 head moulder on Friday morning.
08:52 AM JT-Shop: nice
09:30 AM enleth: do you have any experience with reusable oil absorbent pads?
09:30 AM enleth: are they worth the additional cost compared to the ones marketed as single-use?
10:11 AM mtpocketscnc: hello, how goes it?
10:12 AM mtpocketscnc: z0f12
10:12 AM mtpocketscnc: whoops lol
11:28 AM fragalot: Hi.
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: hi all
12:26 PM fragalot: hey
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: there he is
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: gloops, the man with the x-ray eys
12:27 PM fragalot: IchGucksLive: so.. did gloops fly?
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: gloops, you have been wright on DIP 8
12:30 PM gloops: eyes like a hawk me
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: all clear today 5 mashines to move from mount
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: i got some trouble with 2.7.13
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: on wheezy all my configs wont work
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: all got a tiny speed
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: if i make a new stepconf it works but this is all lots of work and the homing is the Wrong direction
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: id one way need to change all Cables Phase
12:33 PM fragalot: can't you just change the home direction and call it done?
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: or as i did i home in negative direction while moving positiv
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: fragalot, ;-)
12:33 PM IchGucksLive: fragalot, but it makes no sence
12:34 PM IchGucksLive: the homeswiches are at 175mm while home is 170 and i need to SEARCH Latch -3
12:35 PM IchGucksLive: fragalot, one student today did a TEST on 12V 24V 36V and 48V
12:36 PM IchGucksLive: to the DQ542m at 3.5A
12:36 PM IchGucksLive: 25KG YZ at Y Stepconf Test
12:36 PM fragalot: :-)
12:37 PM IchGucksLive: 12V 30VEL at 85ACC stall by 100+-
12:37 PM IchGucksLive: 24V 36Vel 120ACC
12:38 PM IchGucksLive: 36V 40vel 200Acc
12:38 PM fragalot: It's almost as if there is a predictable curve :-)
12:38 PM IchGucksLive: 48V 45vel 250 ACC
12:39 PM IchGucksLive: all china
12:40 PM IchGucksLive: the steppers are limitated to 120Turns per sec
12:41 PM phipli: evening
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:42 PM fragalot: well all you're doing is charging an inductive coil each time you step
12:42 PM fragalot: so the higher the voltage, the faster you get to the nominal current
12:42 PM fragalot: which means it gets to the nominal magnetic field faster
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: i need a mh860 on that place for 72V
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: and a DM556 to test the digital divv
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: 4 studends god mad at seeing mashine movement
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: i dident tell them the chennel :O
12:43 PM fragalot: o.O
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: oh today 1800 hits on YT
12:47 PM fragalot: black mirror is happening in china and it's terrifying.
12:48 PM fragalot: https://imgur.com/gallery/gQ6Ccvv
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: VICE had a story on it a few weeks ago
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: they interviewed the developers, was like watching Silicon Valley
12:49 PM fragalot: yeah this is the third time i've seen it pass by, but it's the first time i've actually bothered looking at it with more than a glance at the headline
12:50 PM MarcelineVQ: what should terrify you is that other governments will think it's a good idea
12:50 PM fragalot: I'm happy the EU seems to be the last bastion of defending digital rights for private persons
12:51 PM gloops: black mirror 's that?
12:51 PM fragalot: gloops: good series commenting on how we deal with social media
12:51 PM CaptHindsight: MarcelineVQ: sure, they know whats best for you
12:51 PM FinboySlick: fragalot: I'm betting good money they'll be among the first to implement it.
12:51 PM gloops: oh i see, in that context 'black' implies anarchists
12:53 PM FinboySlick: gloops: It's broader than just social media. They explore the social effects of technology that is potentially in our near future.
12:53 PM gloops: i doubt the chinese will resist, it isnt the culture to resist really, apart from the odd blip historically
12:53 PM CaptHindsight: have to keep the idiots you've created well trained
12:54 PM fragalot: FinboySlick: given that the EU's finally pushed through the GDPR, I don't think they'll be the first.
12:54 PM fragalot: i'm also not saying that they won't.
12:54 PM gloops: the chinese traditonally assimilate invaders
12:55 PM FinboySlick: fragalot: They like to look tough on corporations... But wait until they try to sell it as a social justice tool.
12:56 PM gloops: FinboySlick dont worry about it, we are all about to take a Great Leap Forward
12:56 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
12:56 PM CaptHindsight: VICE Season 6 Ep #2 is worth a watch
12:56 PM gloops: does it really matter that whitehall can tell me what time i went for a crap? no not really
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: second half of the episode
12:57 PM fragalot: gloops: it does if that crap made you inelligible to get a new job because you took too long
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: "A Face in the Crowd"
12:58 PM FinboySlick: That reminds me of a great AvE bit: "Boss makes a buck, I make a dime. That's why I poop, on company time."
12:58 PM gloops: im not getting a job
01:00 PM FinboySlick: Ironically, it made my boss laugh quite a bit once I used it to excuse myself from a chat to go to the bathroom.
01:02 PM jesseg: Wow... gopros run Linux? OK that is interesting.
01:02 PM gloops: its all a bit orwellian
01:03 PM gloops: Orwell was inspired to write animal farm after seeing a small boy controlling a huge draft horse with a stick, if only the horse had the awareness it could trample its tormentor in an instant
01:03 PM gloops: and so it is with the people and the state
01:05 PM CaptHindsight: most people I talk to don't like the idea but they would work on the tech for $
01:05 PM MarcelineVQ: sounds exactly as true as newton being inspired when an apple fell on his head
01:07 PM CaptHindsight: poop is a proven motivator
01:09 PM gloops: well i think Orwell himself stated that MarcelineVQ
01:09 PM CaptHindsight: on the other hand China is the only place where they are publicly testing gene therapies based on DNA editing enzymes ...
01:10 PM CaptHindsight: on live people (not dead yet)...
01:10 PM gloops: i bet they dont have talking lamposts like we do
01:10 PM CaptHindsight: on the other hand you might have to have a good social score for them to allow any of these cures to be administered to you
01:11 PM gregcnc: talking lamposts?
01:11 PM CaptHindsight: * cures when discovered
01:11 PM gloops: yeah like interactive cctv gregcnc
01:12 PM gregcnc: why do you talk to lamp posts?
01:12 PM CaptHindsight: fake faces might be a good business to get into before they make them illegal
01:12 PM gloops: 'oi, you just dropped a wrapper, get back and pick it up or youll be arrested'
01:13 PM gregcnc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBnDWSvaQ1I
01:13 PM gregcnc: this has happened here.
01:14 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, it was pushed as an update when I had turned off all updates to my phone
01:14 PM CaptHindsight: nice
01:15 PM CaptHindsight: in China they put your face up on a big screen when you cross against the light
01:16 PM gregcnc: on the other hand i can't help but laugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VEA91qEiQ0
01:18 PM gregcnc: https://bigrep.com/posts/world-first-3d-printed-airless-bicycle-tire/
01:19 PM gregcnc: did they do something unique enough to evade the other airless tires patents or have they expired now?
01:20 PM MarcelineVQ: hey neat an advertisment disguised as new
01:20 PM MarcelineVQ: *news
01:20 PM gregcnc: yeah
01:20 PM gregcnc: they are selling the machines vs tires
01:21 PM gregcnc: has anyone put a motor on a automotive scroll compressor for shop air?
01:22 PM gregcnc: AC compressor that is
01:26 PM fragalot: not that i'm aware of.
01:28 PM gloops: wonder if a turbo would work
01:28 PM fragalot: never mind, atlas copco amongst others does it :P
01:45 PM CaptHindsight: anyone have a source for conveyor belting with index/reference/position marks, tabs, holes etc already in the belts?
01:45 PM devlap: Hmm so I got the P5B but I think my latency is still bad.
01:46 PM CaptHindsight: when they have teeth like a timing belt it's easy
01:46 PM cpresser: CaptHindsight: i would assume that encoders on the drive-shaft are used for most applications
01:46 PM rmu: CaptHindsight: if it doesn't need to be very accurate, put barcodes on the belt containing position and read them with a commercial barcode scanner
01:47 PM CaptHindsight: idler wheel with an rotary encoder if it doesn't slip works
01:47 PM fragalot: they always slip, that's why you work with relative measurements
01:48 PM CaptHindsight: chains don't slip
01:48 PM CaptHindsight: just exploring whats new out there
01:49 PM fragalot: you were talking about belts earlier :P
01:49 PM gregcnc: A turbo would work, but the RPM are high and even the smallest have fairly large flow volume. I have a small KP31 compressor wheel around
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: the belt moves slow and stops at the next position for a robot to pick the part
01:50 PM CaptHindsight: just using a sensor to located the edge of the part so the robot can pick it is probably easiest
01:51 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: or combined sensor & encoder, which is what we always do
01:51 PM gregcnc: preliminary research says auto ac compressor is just about right in volume and power to replace a 2HP compressor
01:51 PM gloops: turbines are pretty silent, well you got that nice turbo whirr, thats the only problem youd be revving it up and down all the time to hear the comforting sounds
01:51 PM gregcnc: no machine vision?
01:51 PM fragalot: sensor detects start & end of part, encoder gives us relative movement
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: nah, overkill
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: we design the parts and they are all the same
01:51 PM fragalot: machine vision has all sorts of problems if it's not needed it's best to avoid
01:51 PM gregcnc: supermarkte checkout?
01:51 PM CaptHindsight: about that size
01:52 PM gregcnc: lazer beamz
01:52 PM CaptHindsight: the servo driving the belt has an encoder
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: but if the belt slips you lose the actual position
01:53 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: hence the relative measurement
01:53 PM fragalot: how far does it need to move?
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: yeah so useless
01:53 PM CaptHindsight: total travel is ~2m, with 300mm for each travel
01:53 PM fragalot: and what is the object size/material
01:54 PM CaptHindsight: belt probably won't slip since I'll probably use a polymer modular belt with cogs
01:55 PM CaptHindsight: I could also just use a longer gantry robot vs a conveyor belt
01:56 PM fragalot: you could also use a distance sensor mounted at the end?
01:57 PM CaptHindsight: it really comes down to having an idiot proof design
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: what can the person that puts the parts on the belt do wrong?
01:58 PM fragalot: Everything.
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, so you have to make it as simple to load the belt as possible
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: slide it into a slot until the light goes ON or similar
01:59 PM CaptHindsight: the person will have a degree in Science at minimum
01:59 PM fragalot: but as far as measuring travel goes, moving 300mm as a relative measurement read from an idler is probably robust enough
02:00 PM CaptHindsight: with a cogged belt there won't be any slip
02:00 PM CaptHindsight: unless the belts are outside the budget
02:00 PM fragalot: if that's an option
02:01 PM fragalot: I only ever deal with retrofits in my industry
02:01 PM fragalot: cogged belts are not a luxury we have :-)
02:01 PM CaptHindsight: 12m of belt
02:01 PM CaptHindsight: this is FDA with washdown every day
02:02 PM CaptHindsight: so nothing is inexpensive
02:02 PM CaptHindsight: stainless everything
02:02 PM CaptHindsight: no horizontal surfaces
02:02 PM fragalot: Yup.
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: no tubes, just channel or angles
02:03 PM gregcnc: parts are more cakelike than slug of metal?
02:03 PM fragalot: don't forget the special blue zip-ties, IF allowed at all.
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: parts are in a basket
02:03 PM fragalot: tubes are OK as long as they are fully sealed with no tight corners
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: we also make the basket
02:04 PM CaptHindsight: not loaded by immigrant seasonal labor
02:04 PM fragalot: lol
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: I still would like some sort of fixture on the belt that they load parts onto
02:07 PM gregcnc: gates centerclean?
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: if the fixture is not loaded correctly the machine can't start
02:08 PM MarcelineVQ: thang010146 has had a ton of fixture videos recently if you're looking for inspiration
02:08 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: is it not possible to have a controlled bump to align the parts in the correct orientation?
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGLn5newDeA
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: something similar
02:09 PM gregcnc: 144p lol
02:09 PM gregcnc: i'm sure you know what your'doing with that. not somethign i deal with
02:09 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: or cleats and a stop with sensor
02:10 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, regular old fashioned belts like a sander are easy
02:10 PM fragalot: cleats work, but they'll hate cleaning them :P
02:11 PM rmu: this barcode thing was not a joke, that really works
02:11 PM rmu: just print coordinates as barcode
02:11 PM fragalot: until they get dirty or wear, yes.
02:11 PM rmu: on labels
02:11 PM rmu: stick labels on belt
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: rmu: sure, I can also get belts with holes punched near the edge every few mm
02:12 PM gloops: free app to do this kind of slicing ? https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/516163253/large-wooden-wall-art-modern-art?ref=related-3
02:13 PM fragalot: gloops: blender, cut your parts along a plane that you move, tadaah. :-)
02:14 PM gloops: will that give me the cross sections?
02:15 PM gloops: seems a bit complicated, an autodesk app does it but i cant get it to install
02:15 PM fragalot: it will indeed
02:17 PM fragalot: gloops: you could also try slic3r and use the "slice to SVG" function
02:17 PM gloops: so long as i can save a vector or any image of each section
02:18 PM gloops: ill have a look at that in slicr
02:18 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZOGDL_zYvY Sanitary Conveyors
02:19 PM gloops: https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=8699194120463301363
02:19 PM gloops: i need fusion 360 installed for that
02:22 PM fragalot: gloops: http://manual.slic3r.org/advanced/svg-output
02:23 PM ferdna: anyone bought from ProCutCNC? reviews? comments?
02:23 PM gloops: fragalot but wont calculate the interlocking cross sections
02:24 PM fragalot: Nope.
02:24 PM fragalot: didn't know you wanted those too
02:34 PM miss0r: fragalot: So the trip to germany has been moved to next week... *sigh*
02:34 PM fragalot: next week... monday?
02:34 PM miss0r: Apparently it was too much for the machine transportation company, to check if the machine could actually fit on a regular size trailer, before setting everything in motion :)
02:35 PM fragalot: haha
02:35 PM miss0r: Thursday. Monday is a holyday
02:35 PM fragalot: i've had that with a machine we've built >.> 2cm too tall after we put it in the transport crate
02:35 PM miss0r: lol
02:40 PM gloops: Ichs might know a way to make those slice things, he knows everything
02:42 PM Deejay: re
03:00 PM gloops: although slice to SVG might be ok...but learn ANOTHER app lol
03:01 PM fragalot: yeah I only knew it had that feature but hadn't used it myself :-)
03:01 PM fragalot: really good tool for 3D printing though
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: might not have mattered to them, I have stated that I needed a trailer 48+ inches wide to load a pallet...
03:02 PM gloops: but slicr is going to make hundreds of slices
03:02 PM fragalot: that depends on your layer thickness settings gloops
03:02 PM fragalot: which is limited by the nozzle diameter that is configured
03:02 PM fragalot: as described on the page I linked. :)
03:02 PM gloops: so you could set it to 60mm? heh
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: when I got there the gate/door to the trailer was 48" inched wide with 2 hooks for chains welded on reducing it to 44" wide and then the wheel housings were <40" apart :)
03:03 PM fragalot: gloops: yes
03:03 PM gloops: hmm, i suppose i better get it and have a look
03:03 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: hehe. Story of my life. Luckily I was not involved in the transportation part. I just took it down, and am waiting to set it back up again
03:03 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: top-load it :P
03:03 PM CaptHindsight: so you can't solve for idiots
03:04 PM gloops: there arent any interlocking sections in those wall panels, and even if you wanted them, the back edge is always flat, only needs a few straight strips running along with slots
03:05 PM MarcelineVQ: gloops: what are you modeling the item in? if it's a cad program you should easily be able to slice it there by patterning a cut
03:07 PM miss0r: I'm thinking of taking a day off tomorrow, to clean my shop thoroughly
03:07 PM gloops: would probably make the model in blender
03:08 PM gloops: you can slice it up in blender, but...there are probably quicker and easier methods
03:09 PM gloops: alternative is to get a virtual machine installed and use autodesk app
03:16 PM gloops: http://garyhodgson.github.io/slic3rsvgviewer/ you get a run through of the slices with slice to svg, suppose if you took a slice every 50mm, save vector, extrude it 12mm, you got your model
03:18 PM fragalot: yup
03:19 PM gregcnc: don't you start with a model?
03:19 PM gloops: yes you make the solid model first
03:20 PM fragalot: tbf if your goal is solids again it would probably be easier to just do the patterned cut that MarcelineVQ suggested
03:20 PM fragalot: the SVG is great if you're after outlines
03:20 PM gloops: i was thinking of of a pair of boobs, but supposing i slice it up and the nipples are missing
03:21 PM fragalot: you get a preview in slic3r of the layers
03:21 PM gloops: not familair with patterning a cut, ill look at that as well
03:21 PM gregcnc: OK, that's why it's so complicated
03:22 PM miss0r: I'll call it a night. see you guys around
04:28 PM Deejay: gn8
07:37 PM ziper: is an "auto screw machine" worthless for anything less than mass production
08:14 PM Tom_L: probably
08:15 PM Tom_L: what kind?
08:15 PM Tom_L: New Brittan, Davenport, Brown & Sharp.. other?
08:35 PM ziper: brown and sharp
08:36 PM ziper: auction coming up, i'm sure i'll get outbid on everything good
08:39 PM jdh: do you want to make screw like things?
08:46 PM ziper: perhaps
08:48 PM jdh: you should buy it
10:25 PM Tom_L: brown & sharp were the 'midsize' screw machines
10:25 PM Tom_L: i think i still have a manual for one here somewhere
10:30 PM ziper: it is cheap enough I will
11:41 PM nallar is now known as Ross
