12:45 AM fragalot: hi
12:51 AM IchGucksLive: morning from Stormy germany
12:51 AM fragalot: morning from slightly moist belgium
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: fragalot, how has the storm been overnight
01:01 AM fragalot: hasn't affected me, but the south east of belgium got hammered
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: cologne area got around 40liters in one houre
01:01 AM fragalot: IchGucksLive: https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2018/04/29/onweer-houdt-lelijk-huis-in-de-omgeving-van-dinant/
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: fragalot, not German standard
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: roof is loose on missing poles
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden gloops will feel the full effect this afternoon as the storm moves west
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: Till later
01:01 AM fragalot: as long as it doesn't pass by me that's fine
01:01 AM fragalot: cya
01:41 AM Deejay: moin
01:41 AM XXCoder: yo
04:50 AM jthornton: morning
04:50 AM XXCoder: hey
04:55 AM jthornton: used the table saw yesterday for the first time and wow does it cut smooth
04:56 AM XXCoder: nice!
04:58 AM jthornton: I think the blade has a lot to do with the cut quality https://www.forrestblades.com/woodworker-ii-48-tooth/
05:13 AM XXCoder: likely
05:33 AM Tom_L: liking the new toy ehh?
05:34 AM jthornton: it's better than I imagined
05:35 AM Tom_L: 65°F already
05:36 AM jthornton: .weather
05:36 AM theCockerel: Yahoo! Weather - Poplar Bluff, MO, US: Clear, 6°C (42°F), Humidity: 89%, Light breeze 3.1m/s (↖)
05:54 AM XXCoder: 46f 8 mph wind
05:55 AM XXCoder: it may be last days of nice pre-summer weather
05:55 AM XXCoder: for 4 months it'll be hot hell :(
05:58 AM XXCoder: raspiberry POE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5VT7GYh2Qo
05:58 AM XXCoder: pretty coo
06:00 AM jthornton: yea I have a setup like that almost but no hand soldered junk
06:01 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K4RKZF8/
06:03 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IY4QFXE
06:03 AM XXCoder: oh that reverses the injecton?
06:04 AM XXCoder: basically, extract power so device dont get it into ethernet jack?
06:04 AM XXCoder: and connector to connect to
06:05 AM jthornton: yea the splitter pulls the 48v out and converts it to 12v
06:06 AM XXCoder: nice.
06:06 AM XXCoder: I do want to try POE stuff like external cam
06:07 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MUCSAI4
06:07 AM jthornton: that's the splitter cable to give me 12v for the ir light and 12v for the 12v to 5v
06:08 AM XXCoder: cool
06:08 AM jthornton: I like this camera https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BN1FEQE
06:08 AM XXCoder: wow pretty expensive also
06:09 AM jthornton: not really
06:09 AM XXCoder: it is to me lol
06:09 AM jthornton: I have a HikVision camera that is $200
06:09 AM XXCoder: $80 is bit above my casual buy
06:10 AM jthornton: $70
06:11 AM jthornton: I must have returned 4-5 cameras that were either junk or didn't work
06:11 AM XXCoder: it shows as $83 here
06:12 AM jthornton: really, it's $69.99 here
06:12 AM XXCoder: weird
06:13 AM jthornton: oh it went up
06:14 AM jthornton: and no free shipping now lol
06:14 AM XXCoder: too bad lol
06:16 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/Amcrest-Outdoor-Bullet-Security-Camera/dp/B079Y6GTTF
06:17 AM XXCoder: cool. dunno when would get one
06:17 AM XXCoder: too many irons in fire
06:17 AM XXCoder: way too many
06:17 AM jthornton: yea with all the remodeling your doing I can understand
06:18 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/driveway-cam-01.jpg
06:19 AM XXCoder: nice quality of video
06:19 AM XXCoder: bit oversharped but yeah
06:19 AM XXCoder: sharpness makes grass look spooky lol
06:19 AM XXCoder: uhh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K99iRtuwZHk
06:20 AM XXCoder: isnt wood direction totally wrong?
06:20 AM XXCoder: never made a ax handle so not too sure
06:20 AM XXCoder: isnt grain layers supposed to be side to side (so lines is showing on front and back)
06:20 AM XXCoder: so it takes abuse better
06:21 AM XXCoder: its bit small handle for such a big ax
06:21 AM XXCoder: is he trying to kill dog?
06:23 AM XXCoder: yeah as I had pictured in mind http://www.topsurvivalweapons.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/grain-of-axe.jpg
06:24 AM XXCoder: look at 6:15, direction is wrong. in least he didnt make it "rings" layers handle. that'd be just bad
06:26 AM jthornton: yep he just grabbed a 1x chunk of wood I think
06:26 AM jthornton: I wonder if it is even hickory
06:26 AM XXCoder: dunno. handle is way too small anyway
06:27 AM XXCoder: poor dog, he'll kill it someday
06:27 AM XXCoder: he was chopping towards dog jeez
06:27 AM jthornton: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/calling-any-one-from-missouri.73271/page-888#post-19907761
06:27 AM XXCoder: one reply "It is goosewing broad axe. It's used for hewing beams. The handle got to be that short."
06:27 AM XXCoder: interesting
06:28 AM XXCoder: lol
06:30 AM Guest50921 is now known as The_Ball
06:36 AM XXCoder: want to make one of those https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrNVsfkGW-0
06:36 AM XXCoder: maybe once I has royter
06:36 AM XXCoder: *working
07:45 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:29 AM JT-Shop: hmm, the PayPal dispute that jerk filed is under review...
08:30 AM gregcnc_: has it delivered yet?
08:41 AM roycroft: unfortunately, paypal almost always side with themselves
08:42 AM charlesh: I've actually had some decent luck with them as a buy and a seller
08:43 AM JT-Shop: gregcnc_: no it's still in transit
08:43 AM JT-Shop: I'll never sell to that ahole again lol
08:44 AM gregcnc_: nothing to worry about until it says delivered and he denies it
08:47 AM gregcnc_: https://goo.gl/tvZbXr
08:47 AM roycroft: what happened? someone ordered something and decided not to wait for it to be delivered?
08:49 AM gregcnc_: yes
08:49 AM JT-Shop: he has ordered 9 times from me
08:49 AM JT-Shop: roycroft: yea it's lost in the Ukraine postal system
08:50 AM roycroft: paypal will probably side with you in the end, assuming there is proof of delivery
08:50 AM JT-Shop: I've seen it take 2 months sometimes for a USPS first class to international locations
08:50 AM roycroft: but they will use it as an excuse to sit on your money for a month before releasing it to you
08:54 AM charlesh: Anything good in the package? I like geocaching....
08:59 AM gregcnc_: anyone using gnucash?
09:07 AM hazzy-dev: gregcnc_: We used GNUcash for a short time here at the office, I never got proficient with it but it seemed very capable
09:09 AM hazzy-dev: We went back to quicken (which I HATE), as I understand mainly because it has brighter colors on the interface :D
09:10 AM JT-Shop: gregcnc_: I did a long time ago
09:10 AM Spirit532_ is now known as Spirit532
09:11 AM gregcnc_: it's been ages since i used quickbooks and it seems they are all pretty expensive these days
09:14 AM JT-Shop: I didn't care much for gnucash interface
09:26 AM mtpocketscnc: Hi all. I made a touch probe from a limit switch. My question if anyone knows off top of head is that the distance between prob and switch should be measured from when the button on probe is depressed correct?
09:27 AM mtpocketscnc: having some goofy issues with tool finding correct depth
09:29 AM JT-Shop: trial and error till you find out the hysteresis for the switch. Not really a good idea to do that anyway
09:30 AM mtpocketscnc: limit switch as probe?
09:35 AM mtpocketscnc: my thought was to wreck cheap stuff while learning (2 probe crashes thus far) guess i thought i would wreck 2 dollar limit switch instead of buying probe just yet
09:40 AM JT-Shop: best to learn how to set the tool offset with a dowel first
09:42 AM JT-Shop: my lathe but the same principle for a mill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmRUJk0ptN4
09:42 AM Beachbumpete1: hey guys anyone got a good pdf to dxf creator preferrably free
09:43 AM JT-Shop: hey Pete, I've never heard of one
09:44 AM Beachbumpete1: theres a plugin for draftsight but its like $70
09:44 AM Beachbumpete1: annoying
09:44 AM Beachbumpete1: should just import
09:44 AM gregcnc_: $70 that's an hour of company time
09:44 AM Beachbumpete1: yah so
09:44 AM gregcnc_: man hour, maybe 30 minutes
09:45 AM JT-Shop: SolidWorks won't open a pdf
10:11 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah I downloaded inkscape and it actually does open one but for some reason the circlular parts come out angular etc.
10:11 AM Beachbumpete1: also the text is either omitted or funny looking.
10:35 AM Beachbumpete1: JEEZ MAN just spoke to the boss about the pdf import and told him it is $70 and he was like just buy it... then I go to purchase it and it is a yearly for $70 perpetual for $199....bastards...
11:31 AM JT-Shop: Pete tell them you want a 10 day trial to make sure it will work
11:32 AM Beachbumpete1: There is a free 30 day trial
11:50 AM fragalot: Hi
11:50 AM fragalot: miss0r: did more work on the RF45 and learned 2 important things
11:51 AM fragalot: a) when using a cutoff wheel to "scrape" ways, it clogs up really quickly, and after the 2nd pass all you're doing is polishing.. until you notice after about 10 passes that your blue spots aren't moving
11:52 AM fragalot: b) put a straightedge on and use a light rather than only blueing.. Because then you'd have seen that the reason that blue spot hasn't moved is because the ways are bowed by a solid 1mm.
11:52 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
11:52 AM gregcnc_: oops
11:52 AM fragalot: so... I need to find a friend with a vmc that doesn't mind helping me disassemble the rf45 xD
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: fragalot, there are drawings for AL parts to fit in the Ballscrews for that mashine
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: and run on 8Nm Steppers
11:54 AM fragalot: IchGucksLive: doesn't matter if the ways are horrendously bowed
11:54 AM fragalot: and I have no interest in converting that machine to cnc, it is too much work
11:55 AM fragalot: the spindle is too sloppy for cnc
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: ok then sell it away and go for a SIEG X3
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: Paulimot across the boarder to belgium has those mashines in a showroom
11:56 AM gregcnc_: I wonder how that even happens? 1mm of bow?
11:56 AM fragalot: gregcnc_: 2 options: it was never straight
11:56 AM gregcnc_: right
11:56 AM IchGucksLive: gregcnc_, Steal can bend on fast cooling
11:56 AM fragalot: or (and this is also true), the previous owner never oiled it
11:57 AM gregcnc_: but they aren't making man hole covers
11:57 AM gloops: 1mm? lol, i welded a gantry closer than that
11:57 AM gloops: its got to be wear
11:57 AM fragalot: i don't think it's had enough use for it to be wear
11:57 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, did the total rain happen as Sky anounced this morning
11:57 AM fragalot: I mean, it's been used, but mostly as a drill press
11:58 AM gloops: not where i am Ichs, it was further south
11:58 AM gregcnc_: 1mm of wear even dry i think would be a lot of mileage
11:58 AM fragalot: plus it was still showing the "flaking" before I started
11:58 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, we got satorm the whole day
11:58 AM fragalot: therefore, it must have never been straight..
11:58 AM fragalot: or warped because it was never aged properly
11:58 AM gloops: fragalot, are you confident in your measuring here?
11:58 AM fragalot: gloops: yes
11:59 AM IchGucksLive: fragalot, is it a real RF45
11:59 AM fragalot: IchGucksLive: no, it's a clone by HBM from 2008
11:59 AM gloops: im sick of rain now
12:00 PM gloops: maybe the machine has had some hammer? but then would it crack before moving 1 mm
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: ok im off as here the 30th April is witch day and we got a big Fire to support Spring going
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: lots of guests
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: i need to show up
12:01 PM fragalot: have fun IchGucksLive
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: GN8 from Germany
12:01 PM gloops: gn8
12:01 PM fragalot: so.. anyone interested in an RF45?
12:01 PM fragalot: perfect for making bowls
12:01 PM gregcnc_: if i had a boat
12:02 PM gloops: maybe it could be heated up and tapped back
12:02 PM Beachbumpete1: wow my RF45 was pretty good actually aside from the copious amounts of bondo they put on the body unnecessarily before paint
12:03 PM fragalot: Beachbumpete1: haha yeah
12:03 PM Beachbumpete1: I stripped mine all down and repainted it
12:03 PM Beachbumpete1: around the same time I converted it to CNC
12:04 PM fragalot: I'm wondering if I should just put it back together for now, and just finish the parts for the cnc build, compensating my alignment as I go
12:05 PM gloops: thats what i would have done fragalot, just dial every direction in every time
12:06 PM fragalot: gloops: difficult when it BOWS. :P
12:06 PM gloops: check again every 3mm of travel
12:06 PM fragalot: yeah, no
12:07 PM gloops: whats the job for the new cnc - boring?
12:08 PM fragalot: has to be able to do most things..
12:08 PM fragalot: one important part is interpolating circles well
12:09 PM gloops: so you arent going to be compensating then
12:09 PM fragalot: could do for hole patterns, but getting parts square will have to be done elsewhere
12:10 PM gloops: false economy
12:10 PM gloops: get the mill fixed with that money, and do the work on the cnc yourself
12:11 PM fragalot: doing it myself elsewhere won't cost me anything
12:11 PM gloops: oh i see
12:11 PM fragalot: and getting the rf45 milled square would end up costing more than a new rf45
12:12 PM fragalot: so the RF45 is going to go once i've put it back together, sold as a glorified drill press
12:12 PM fragalot: if I get 900 for it without the DRO I'm happy.
12:14 PM fragalot: tbh, i'm getting pretty fed up with crooked machines
12:14 PM fragalot: even my table saw's table is as uneven as can be
12:14 PM fragalot: because bosch thought it'd look nice if they casted their logo into it, and then used a handheld beltsander to smooth it all out
12:16 PM gloops: yes, they dont make them like they used to
12:16 PM Beachbumpete1: fragalot dont you have someone local that could just cut the parts for you instead of dicking around with that bad RF45?
12:16 PM fragalot: not for a reasonable price
12:17 PM fragalot: but I know of some machines I could use, but they're clapped out and take those threaded endmills tha tI don't have
12:17 PM gloops: just about anything with a straight axis long enough, could be utilised to set up a grinder to get that bow out
12:17 PM Beachbumpete1: another thing is you could just make simple/ugly parts to get it running then use the machine to cut nice ones later
12:17 PM fragalot: and i'd have to bring my own collets as his are all jammed up with broken off endmills that havent been taken out in 25 yrs :P
12:18 PM fragalot: gloops: if it was .2mm I might have done that hiwin rail thing I talked about, but 1mm is far too much to just grind..
12:18 PM fragalot: or I could just plow through it with an angle grinder to get it close I guess
12:18 PM fragalot: but who is to say the Z is straight?
12:18 PM fragalot: where does it end? :P
12:19 PM fragalot: i'm just kinda sad that i've wasted around 25hrs of my time scraping in the rest of it
12:19 PM Beachbumpete1: you shim the z into square on these machines at least I did. kind of a bitch but once you get it right just bolt that bitch down ;)
12:20 PM fragalot: Beachbumpete1: assuming the dovetail on that is straight
12:20 PM fragalot: i've already shimmed mine, which I remember to be hell to do :P
12:20 PM Beachbumpete1: well yeah mine was not perfect but it was not terrible either
12:20 PM fragalot: but I never checked if it's straight
12:22 PM Beachbumpete1: the only real issue I actually had with the machine itself was the Z axis gib cracked due to my misadjusting it and I had to find another one like it and that was not as simple as it would seem
12:22 PM fragalot: lol
12:23 PM fragalot: maybe I'll try the angle grinder approach anyway
12:25 PM gloops: nah youll end up getting beyond recovery
12:25 PM markus_: Hi, kennt sich jemand mit Gmoccapy und dem Thema H_button aus und mag mir auf die sprünge helfen?
12:26 PM gloops: if the whole thing is bent, warming it up and pulling it straight isnt as dumb as it sounds
12:27 PM fragalot: don't have an oxy torch large enough
12:30 PM gloops: propane, roofing torch maybe, would also need to be done on a flat base, i dunno maybe of the centre was up against a stop, couple of car jacks one either end, 1mm is not a lot to move it
12:31 PM gloops: but probably unknown quantity what will happen during cooling
12:31 PM fragalot: or given time
12:31 PM fragalot: cast iron likes to settle
12:31 PM fragalot: and now it's had 10yrs to settle in
12:45 PM gloops: well, i should have bought 1 of the top slides on ebay a month or 2 ago, none been advertised since
12:46 PM gloops: ill have to try welding the crack, need lathe for further projects
12:47 PM fragalot: nothing to lose
12:50 PM fragalot: gloops: https://i.imgur.com/mcSSK1g.mp4
12:52 PM gloops: yeah you can do that concertina thing by sticking wood trips onto flexible backing
12:55 PM fragalot: gloops: i'm thinking my mill was originally made with a camelback straight-edge
12:56 PM fragalot: except they held it backwards
12:58 PM gloops: heh heh, well, it also has to be considered that you have scraped this bed fragalot
12:59 PM gloops: and it now seems worse than when you started
12:59 PM fragalot: that's weird because it's hollow and i have only scraped the outside of it
01:27 PM gloops: about 2 bins full of old flat pulleys and stuff going out for scrap
01:27 PM gloops: flat belt pulleys
01:28 PM gloops: need space, will never use them, slightly guilty owing to their age and history maybe, but nothing can be done
01:51 PM Eroc: Hi. I'd like to create an auxilliary display for LinuxCNC. Is there any way to get realtime(ish), programmatic access to the x, y, z coordinates and velocity that are displayed in the GUI?
01:51 PM cpresser: Eroc: look at halui
01:51 PM cpresser: and pyvcp
01:52 PM Eroc: cpresser: Thanks. Those look like exactly what I was looking for.
02:08 PM Eroc: This might be a dumb question, but what does NML stand for?
02:09 PM fragalot: Neutral Message Language
02:10 PM fragalot: http://nairobi-embedded.org/060_linuxcnc_nml_config.html
02:10 PM fragalot: no idea how up to date that page is
02:11 PM Eroc: Thanks for that. My Google skills were failing me on this one.
02:18 PM laggger164 is now known as laggger164_
02:24 PM gloops: '10 x single flute spiral CNC router metal '
02:24 PM gloops: wonder if thats router - metal
02:24 PM gloops: or router metal
02:27 PM fragalot: gloops: link?
02:27 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-175-X-22mm-Single-Flute-Spiral-Carbide-CNC-Router-Bits-Milling-Cutter/222898847412?
02:28 PM gloops: i think its router metal lol
02:28 PM fragalot: what is "router metal"?
02:28 PM gloops: i dont know, but i cant see those cutting metal really
02:28 PM fragalot: they won't
02:29 PM fragalot: I doubt they'd do foam well either as the flutes aren't polished
02:29 PM gloops: how come the bottom isnt flat?
02:29 PM fragalot: it doesn't need to be
02:29 PM XXCoder: looks like HHS
02:29 PM gloops: so we're relying on travel to complete the cut
02:29 PM XXCoder: er HSS
02:29 PM fragalot: gloops: yes
02:30 PM XXCoder: ingle flute can be pretty darn smooth cut
02:30 PM XXCoder: it also wears pretty fast from limited experence I had.
02:30 PM fragalot: twice as fast as a 2-flute
02:30 PM fragalot: :P
02:30 PM gloops: yeah, its only for mdf
02:31 PM gloops: trend single flute start around £35 each
02:33 PM fragalot: good endmills though
02:33 PM gloops: i know people use these cheapo carbide bits, i dunno, is this something else im going to be saying 'spend a bit more on some real ones' in a weeks time
02:34 PM XXCoder: well el cheapo ones is good for learning
02:34 PM XXCoder: break
02:34 PM gloops: thats true yes XXCoder
02:34 PM XXCoder: break $10 tool whatever, break $35 tool ow
02:35 PM gloops: works out about £1.50 each, if they last a few hours its not bad
02:36 PM gloops: and in the event of a snap, no worries
02:36 PM XXCoder: yeah well besides scrapping wood
02:36 PM gloops: yeah
02:36 PM XXCoder: dang nes switch is hacked forever
02:36 PM XXCoder: they found a unpatchable exploit to root it
02:37 PM fragalot: how is that a bad thing
02:37 PM XXCoder: didnt say it was bad
02:37 PM fragalot: well it is :P
02:39 PM XXCoder: now youre saying it is bad?
02:39 PM fragalot: never said it wasn't
02:39 PM fragalot: depends on what you mean by exploit rooting it
02:39 PM fragalot: does it require local access, or can it be done remotely
02:47 PM miss0r: fragalot: Are you about done with your scraping?
02:48 PM fragalot: fed up is a better word :P
02:48 PM fragalot: so I demolished a wall instead
02:48 PM miss0r: That was bound to happen... :D
02:48 PM gregcnc_: only 1000 microns to go?
02:48 PM fragalot: yeah
02:48 PM fragalot: :P
02:49 PM miss0r: I hope the wall demolition was intentional/planned :D
02:49 PM fragalot: it was
02:49 PM fragalot: there was this little wall in the cellar that used to be for holding coal
02:49 PM fragalot: which was getting on my nerve :P
02:49 PM miss0r: Good :) then you are not 'that' fed up with scraping
02:49 PM gregcnc_: you mean you didn't use the mill to demo the wall?
02:49 PM FinboySlick: If scraping takes down a wall, you clearly aren't doing a finishing pass.
02:50 PM miss0r: I once helped a friend of mine demolish a wall... We found and used everything you could think off, just to try it... Have you ever hooked an old boatsanker into a drywall, and drag it out, tied to a car? :D
02:52 PM fragalot: no because I can see how the anchor would launch into the back window
02:53 PM miss0r: realy long rope :D
02:53 PM XXCoder: all cars need boat anchor
02:54 PM fragalot: it always surpises me how much stone comes out of a little wall
02:54 PM fragalot: it was only like 2x2m²
02:55 PM fragalot: yet now i've got bags & bags of the stuff stacked up in the hallway and several more in the livingroom because the tips are shut :P
02:55 PM miss0r: :D
02:56 PM XXCoder: nonecludian stones!
02:56 PM enleth: some time ago someone posted a YT series on manufacturing of precision mechanisms, with an older guy talking, I think the title had a "1 of 15" (or some similar number) in it, and either that video or another in the series had the guy stand right next to a bridgeport
02:56 PM enleth: I didn't bookmark it
02:56 PM enleth: and I can't find it now
02:57 PM enleth: anyone remember that series?
02:57 PM gregcnc_: https://www.youtube.com/user/dgelbart/videos
02:58 PM enleth: gregcnc_: that's the one, thanks
02:59 PM XXCoder: last video 3 years ago
02:59 PM enleth: noticed that, looked at the discussion section, he did answer somewhat recently that he's busy in his new job and won't be able to post new videos for the time being
03:08 PM FinboySlick: enleth: Isn't that the guy who has an airbearing lathe?
03:08 PM enleth: not sure, I only started watching it now
03:08 PM gregcnc_: yes
03:09 PM Tom_L: be sure to bookmark it this time
03:32 PM Deejay: gn8
03:34 PM gloops: SWPlinux?
03:34 PM gloops: whats S W P stand for?
03:36 PM JT-Shop: his name
03:36 PM gloops: oh ok thanks
03:37 PM XXCoder: oh wow interesting idea
03:37 PM XXCoder: vertical chess
03:37 PM XXCoder: its shelf that has colored squares and peices stand on shelves
03:38 PM gloops: yeah seen those XXCoder, i saved a pic ages ago its a great idea
03:38 PM XXCoder: too bad dont have lathe, or would try make one
03:38 PM XXCoder: if makje shelf front magnetic, could mark latest move
03:44 PM gloops: http://www.fubiz.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wall_hanging_chess_board_05.jpg
03:45 PM gloops: so..use blocks with v carved chess piece shapes, that means i dont have to do anything
03:45 PM gloops: every home should have one of these!
03:47 PM gloops: it also needs a 'your move' marker, so the other person knows youve moved
03:48 PM gloops: assuming this game is taking place when both players arent present together
03:48 PM XXCoder: ohh not bad not bad
03:48 PM XXCoder: also past piece moved
03:49 PM XXCoder: *last
03:49 PM gloops: yes
03:49 PM XXCoder: last peice can also serve as "your turn"
03:49 PM XXCoder: add some smarts to it and it can record movements
03:49 PM gloops: yeah that would simplify it
03:49 PM XXCoder: all it needs is say rfid
03:49 PM XXCoder: each slot would have unique rfid
03:50 PM XXCoder: I mean peice, fewer that way lol
03:50 PM gloops: yours will probably be better than mine lol
03:51 PM XXCoder: add some servos and it can be remotely played by one player or both lol
03:51 PM XXCoder: using electromagnets and metal plate on parts
03:52 PM gloops: it does look better with traditional pieces though
03:52 PM XXCoder: yeah
03:54 PM gloops: can buy molds for chess pieces im guessing, maybe do some bronze resin ones and white marbley ones
03:54 PM Tom_L: gold & silver
03:55 PM gloops: or gold and silver yeah
03:55 PM * roycroft misread that at first as "buy molds for cheese pieces", and it still kind of made sense
03:55 PM XXCoder: eat the "killed" chess peices
03:55 PM XXCoder: the "killer"gets to eat it
03:55 PM Tom_L: winner wins a belly ache
03:57 PM Tom_L: how does one fine the win10 product serial number on an installed version?
03:58 PM Tom_L: needed for recovery, it's not on the box
03:58 PM Tom_L: and also NOT my pc
03:58 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't run 10 personally
03:58 PM gloops: doubt its going to be visible anywhere?
03:58 PM XXCoder: theres extract programs for windows 7 and earlier
03:59 PM XXCoder: dunno on later versions.
03:59 PM XXCoder: laters
03:59 PM Tom_L: i figured it might be on some 'info' screen deep inside
03:59 PM gloops: registry if anywhere
04:00 PM Tom_L: recall the contest my kid won?
04:01 PM Tom_L: spirit aerosystems sent him a letter a day later wanting him to tour their plant for a best fit for him
04:02 PM gloops: someone says it might be on the battery if windows was pre-installed
04:02 PM gloops: lots of doors will be opening now Tom_L for him
04:04 PM Roguish: Tom_L: try this: https://cpu-z.en.softonic.com/
04:04 PM Roguish: and this: https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
04:04 PM Tom_L: if he would happen to win (slim chance) the national at Louisville, he would be invited to Shanghai for the international competetion
04:05 PM Tom_L: Roguish i forgot all about cpu-z.. i've got it
04:05 PM Tom_L: thanks
04:05 PM Tom_L: not sure it shows product keys though
04:05 PM Roguish: hate to admit that i use 'em occasionally.
04:07 PM Tom_L: yeah, cpu-z is more about hardware..
04:09 PM Tom_L: the hdd lasted 2 mo and is going south i believe
04:09 PM Tom_L: new in Feb
04:09 PM Roguish: a little bit of searching and you shouuld be able to find something freeware....
04:09 PM Tom_L: yeah, well the mfg is sending it to me but that could take 2 days
04:10 PM Tom_L: i wonder if the bios stores it nowdays
04:11 PM Tom_L: i can at least get to that
04:11 PM Roguish: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/produkey.html
04:11 PM Tom_L: once it's done taking over the pc that is
04:32 PM Eroc: I'm using halrmt to extract some live data. I noticed that when I do a "Get Signal Xpos", I get back the value "4.839336", but the LinuxCNC GUI shows an X position of "3.8269". There's a 1.012436 discrepancy that I'm not sure where it is coming from. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there some offset I should be applying?
04:34 PM Tom_L: lathe or mill?
04:35 PM Eroc: Mill.
04:35 PM Tom_L: well even so, if it were a tool offset it would likely be in Z
04:35 PM Eroc: I'm just running a simulation.
04:36 PM Eroc: Good point. I was wondering if maybe it was some sort of homing offset, but I don't see a value that lines up in either the signals or params.
04:37 PM Tom_L: it _could_ be the work offset from absolute zero but probably not
04:38 PM Tom_L: ie G54
04:40 PM Eroc: G54 is all zeros, alas.
04:40 PM Eroc: I checked relative versus actual position too, but that doesn't look like it either.
07:35 PM adamj12b: Does anybody know if there could be a way to have multiple soft limits per axis that could be enabled/disabled?
07:36 PM Tom_L: possibly use an OR comp?
07:36 PM Tom_L: thru an "AND" that has a toggle switch on it
07:36 PM Tom_L: or such
07:37 PM pink_vampire: hi
07:38 PM Tom_L: some mixture of logic would do it
07:38 PM Tom_L: depends how you want to enable/disable them
07:39 PM adamj12b: Like you said. Some kind of toggle switch. Or onscreen check box to emable the further travel.
07:39 PM Tom_L: i don't know which you want disabled or enabled
07:39 PM Tom_L: but it can be done that way
07:40 PM adamj12b: My axis axis is dovetail, and to get the speced 30" of yravel, it exposes roughly 4 inchs of the dovetail on the saddle. This drives me nuts but it was designed that way.
07:40 PM adamj12b: So inwas thinking disable the extra travel and enable for onlybthe jobs that require it.
07:41 PM Tom_L: does the dovetail overhang cause inaccuracy?
07:41 PM Tom_L: may not be a good idea if it does
07:42 PM Tom_L: you can mount parts diagonal and mill them too...
07:42 PM Tom_L: just rotate your cad model
07:43 PM Tom_L: that saved zeeshan once as i recall
07:44 PM adamj12b: Not that ive noticed, but im going to check Now. ..
07:49 PM gregcnc_: if the job doesn't require the travel, it wouldn't normally be used?
07:49 PM gregcnc_: so why worry
07:49 PM Tom_L: that's my understanding
07:49 PM Tom_L: just on long jobs
07:55 PM pink_vampire: is there a tool holder for er taper?
07:55 PM gregcnc_: a few
07:55 PM pink_vampire: for er 11
07:55 PM adamj12b: To complicate things, it must expose the ways to home the machine.
07:55 PM gregcnc_: generally larger than that
07:56 PM gregcnc_: which machine? does it actually cause trouble?
07:56 PM pink_vampire: https://www.genswiss.com/er_taper_integrated_tiloc_tooling_cte.htm
07:57 PM gregcnc_: yes those are what i was thinking of
07:58 PM gregcnc_: also https://www.genswiss.com/qcollets.htm
07:58 PM pink_vampire: they look way above the home gamer needs
07:58 PM gregcnc_: I should have quoted those along with some other tools I inquired today
08:00 PM pink_vampire: what is the largest er collet for er11?
08:00 PM gregcnc_: I actually have a need I didn't quite think through, and this would be an option
08:00 PM gregcnc_: 7.0
08:07 PM Rab: I guess 1/4" is the largest fractional inch size.
08:07 PM mtpocketscnc3: https://pastebin.com/KHtieWv4
08:10 PM mtpocketscnc3: was wondering if someone can tell me what's wrong. I can touch off and run once but if i try to touch off again i get cutter comp entry move error
08:14 PM MarcelineVQ: Rab: you can get 5/16 er11's
08:15 PM Rab: Ooo, I stand corrected.
08:15 PM gregcnc_: maritool sells some ER in larger than standard sizes
08:16 PM Rab: That's almost 8mm.
08:16 PM gregcnc_: Rego Fix says 7mm
08:23 PM gregcnc_: mtpocketscnc3 Sounds to me like you have to cancel radius compensation G40. It should also be in your header.
08:27 PM pink_vampire: i need a probe that can work on the hf spindle
08:38 PM mtpocketscnc: yep was the problem. thankyou much.
09:44 PM cradek: mtpocketscnc: when in doubt just MDI a M2
09:44 PM cradek: but yeah you're ending up stopped while still in cutter comp mode, and that restricts what you can do
