01:23 AM IchGucksLive: morning from thundery germany
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: pink_vampire, still online
01:26 AM pink_vampire: yes
01:26 AM XXCoder: yo
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: you youd get a hevy house maid for lifting help
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder, wine production dropped in the USA of significand weather
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: we got a tornado warning today
01:29 AM fragalot: Mornin'
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: im off till later
01:39 AM Deejay: moin
01:56 AM gloops: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/7f/52/64/7f52641e1947821b01cd088b9f938634.jpg
01:57 AM gloops: i need to try this, got a bag full of led strips
01:57 AM pink_vampire: you did it?
01:57 AM gloops: forget what bits they use now
01:57 AM gloops: no its not mine
01:57 AM XXCoder: yeah one of stuff I plan to try
01:57 AM XXCoder: engraving mainloy
01:57 AM pink_vampire: how is your machine is doing?
01:57 AM gloops: its working, almost done now
01:58 AM gloops: its working as in - cutting, ready to use
01:58 AM gloops: need dust shoe and suction
01:59 AM pink_vampire: so it is running!
01:59 AM pink_vampire: dust shoe is very cheap
01:59 AM XXCoder: can even make one with same machine its for
01:59 AM XXCoder: use some alyric
02:00 AM gloops: yeah thats an option, ill check them out, need to get extractor and pipes rigged up first, i want a very light flexible pipe, nothing that will drag on the gantry
02:01 AM pink_vampire: what cad / cam are you using?
02:02 AM XXCoder: gloop I saw 3d print model for clearing dust out of vacuum hose
02:03 AM XXCoder: so your vacuum dont get filled with dust
02:04 AM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1447214'
02:08 AM gloops: various pink_vampire, from inkscape to aspire
02:08 AM XXCoder: when I get 3d printer I'm definitely printing couple of those!
02:08 AM XXCoder: chain em up
02:08 AM gloops: hmm doesnt load XXCoder, for me
02:08 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/YzCaXaZ.jpg
02:09 AM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1447214
02:09 AM XXCoder: oops added '
02:09 AM gloops: are you turning yet pink_vampire?
02:09 AM pink_vampire: look at the parts in the picture
02:10 AM gloops: does that allow bigger particles to drop out XXCoder?
02:10 AM gloops: so you cleaned them up in the chuck? or made new parts?
02:10 AM XXCoder: havent made one but video certainly shows it grabbing essentally most dust
02:10 AM XXCoder: good enough really
02:12 AM pink_vampire: i made the whole tailstock stopper from scratch, include the brass stoppers, and the handle (steel)
02:13 AM pink_vampire: https://i.imgur.com/YzCaXaZ.jpg?1
02:13 AM XXCoder: nice!
02:13 AM gloops: they look pro made
02:13 AM XXCoder: youre so much more skilled than me its ricious
02:14 AM pink_vampire: thanks :)
02:15 AM pink_vampire: now the lathe is basically done, and my next project will be to finish the belt drive for the g0704
02:16 AM XXCoder: gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvL5oLq-Ym8
02:17 AM pink_vampire: BTW the HF spindle is AMAZING it cut everything sooo fast
02:17 AM XXCoder: you replaced spindle on mill or is that lathe
02:17 AM pink_vampire: i have a dual spindle on my mill
02:17 AM XXCoder: ahh
02:19 AM gloops: better like that XXCoder where it all slots together, rather than trying to make bits of pipe fit and inevitably taping them together heh
02:19 AM XXCoder: theres few variants
02:19 AM XXCoder: for different hose sizes
02:20 AM pink_vampire: the original 1000 rpm going to be belt drive servo spindle (hopefully rigid tap in aluminum and stuff like that)
02:20 AM pink_vampire: and the AUX spindle is er11
02:20 AM XXCoder: nice
02:21 AM patrycja is now known as vuko
02:25 AM pink_vampire: with the AUX spindle i can cut metal in 1000mm/min
02:28 AM pink_vampire: do you want you ant to see a nice trick to cut the hex on the handle
02:29 AM pink_vampire: no indexing head, no collet block
02:29 AM XXCoder: made a video of that eh
02:31 AM pink_vampire: hex die + super glue + vise = https://i.imgur.com/RmXVil9.jpg
02:32 AM XXCoder: nice
02:32 AM XXCoder: so when done just heat it a little to break glue and screw out?
02:33 AM pink_vampire: i just used a wrench in the hex..
02:33 AM pink_vampire: it's a die after all...
02:34 AM XXCoder: nice
02:34 AM Kevin`: I like that
02:35 AM XXCoder: well its pretty brilliant idea
02:35 AM XXCoder: die is nicely consient on sides sizes so on
02:35 AM pink_vampire: i took very minimal cut to keep the machining load to minimum. (but in 60K rpm the metal is just gone in a blink)
02:38 AM pink_vampire: the original idea was to machine a hex with a thread in the center and use super glue, and then i realize that hex die is just the same thing
02:45 AM Kevin`: how were you planning to machine a hex with a thread in the center?
02:45 AM pink_vampire: I'm not sure what are you asking
02:45 AM Kevin`: if the original problem was a lack of a tool to cut the hex shape
02:45 AM XXCoder: pretty strightforward actuallu
02:45 AM XXCoder: in least for first 2 sides
02:45 AM XXCoder: remaining 4 sides needs to be in angle and im not sure on those
02:46 AM XXCoder: ikea chair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5y47sgd5l4
02:49 AM pink_vampire: Kevin`: there is varies tricks to cut a hex on a round part, the easiest is to use a hex shape that hold the stock in the center. (like the die i've used) the other way is just to use some hex shaped object for registering in the vise, and then you touch off the tool from the surface of the stock,
03:04 AM gloops: well, having breathed life into this thing, its now my duty as a responsible master, to find some useful employment for it
03:05 AM gloops: machines were not made to stand idle
03:05 AM XXCoder: lol
03:05 AM pink_vampire: do you want the machine to run 24/7?
03:05 AM gloops: no that might annoy the neighbours pink_vampire - and me
03:06 AM gloops: something simple to start, popular memes from mdf i think
03:06 AM pink_vampire: try to cut metal with hf spindle.
03:07 AM gloops: no painting or sanding or any messing about, heaven forbid i end up finding work for myself
03:08 AM XXCoder: engraving takes 100 times as much time lol
03:09 AM syyl: i always said it
03:09 AM syyl: cnc machinists are like slavemasters.
03:09 AM gloops: well, im narrowing it down to nursery wall decor, LOVE themes, and maybe signs
03:09 AM pink_vampire: syyl: what so you mean?
03:10 AM gloops: pointless trendy consumer junk
03:12 AM gloops: i dont want any clients, no bespoke or custom made, no phonecalls, you can choose your letters, fonts, size etc from a list
03:12 AM syyl: haha
03:13 AM syyl: you will miss all the enjoyment of dealing with customers.
03:13 AM syyl: "i want something like this"
03:13 AM syyl: "just different"
03:15 AM gloops: nope, its off the peg only
03:16 AM gloops: if it aint on the list, i dont do it
03:16 AM syyl: :D
04:45 AM jthornton: morning
04:49 AM XXCoder: today was boring lol
04:50 AM XXCoder: cleared out room that will have walls ripped out, and made bunch of ethernet cables
04:51 AM jthornton: I need to clear out the garden shed it's full of junk
04:51 AM jthornton: firefox is acting wonky today
05:12 AM fragalot: 'sup
05:13 AM XXCoder: yo
05:13 AM jthornton: watching table saw porn on putube
05:14 AM jthornton: it cracks me up that 90% of putube videos are just plain crap
05:16 AM XXCoder: just 90%?
05:16 AM XXCoder: robot-made ones was taking over youtube but youtube killed a lot of those channels
05:16 AM jthornton: well to be honest 99.9%
05:17 AM XXCoder: but even without those, still lots crap
05:17 AM XXCoder: my channel included lol
05:17 AM jthornton: this link cracks me up http://www.sierrapine.com/
05:18 AM XXCoder: not sure whats cunny about it
05:18 AM XXCoder: oh wait
05:18 AM XXCoder: its supposed to be main site not php test page
05:18 AM jthornton: aye
05:19 AM XXCoder: someone goofed lol
05:19 AM jthornton: http://www.finehomebuilding.com/2006/07/01/build-a-tablesaw-crosscut-sled
05:19 AM XXCoder: you saw woodgears one>
05:20 AM XXCoder: he makes pretty decent sleds I think
05:20 AM XXCoder: he made few ctually
05:20 AM jthornton: this is the best one I've seen so far https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbG-n--LFgQ
05:20 AM jthornton: not seen woodgears
05:21 AM XXCoder: https://woodgears.ca/delta_saw/sled.html
05:21 AM XXCoder: this is one of earliest, and simplest
05:21 AM XXCoder: he have made bunch since
05:21 AM XXCoder: his smaller one https://woodgears.ca/delta_saw/small_sled.html
05:21 AM XXCoder: very effective, and it has protection and has autostop so you canbt go all way poast'
05:23 AM jthornton: better to just cut some hickory rails for the miter slot than using metal that you beat with a hammer to make it fit
05:25 AM XXCoder: other one https://woodgears.ca/sp/dewalt.html
05:25 AM XXCoder: I think he made 5 total?
05:25 AM XXCoder: one was pretty huge
05:28 AM jthornton: http://www.justsquareenough.com/Tutorials/TableSawCrosscutSled
05:35 AM XXCoder: looking
05:36 AM XXCoder: that one is nice.
05:37 AM XXCoder: I only have small tablesaw
05:37 AM XXCoder: intended to only make smaller stuff
05:37 AM fragalot: it amazes me how many tutorials there are on how to screw a board to another board
05:37 AM jthornton: lol
05:37 AM SpeedEvil: Many ways to screw up.
05:39 AM syyl: completely screwed
05:40 AM fragalot: Right.. I've decided I want a biax.
05:40 AM syyl: yeah!
05:40 AM syyl: its only 2,5k€ a pop
05:40 AM fragalot: or 1k for a used one if I want it now, and 400 if I get lucky on one :P
05:41 AM syyl: yes, thats a normal price range
05:41 AM fragalot: but hand scraping the amount of material that needs removing is just plain inhumane
05:41 AM syyl: be aware that the very old ones do not have a stroke-length adjuster
05:41 AM syyl: (and are bloody heavy)
05:42 AM fragalot: technically I should find someone with a mill big enough to fit the rf45 base, column & table and get it milled flat first.. wouldn't mind handscraping if it starts flat-ish
05:42 AM fragalot: syyl: I did not know that, I thought they all had the stroke length adjuster.
05:42 AM syyl: :)
05:44 AM jthornton: http://www.table-saw-guide.com/crosscut-sled.html
05:44 AM jthornton: as soon as I read about humidity being bad for wood runners I know he doesn't know jack about wood lol
05:45 AM syyl: all i know about wood is, that it welds quite bad
05:45 AM fragalot: very easy to chemically bond it though
05:45 AM SpeedEvil: It welds fine.
05:45 AM fragalot: and wood loctite is a lot cheaper than metal loctite
05:45 AM SpeedEvil: You just need to weld it green.
05:45 AM syyl: ultrasonicwelding doesnt count ;)
05:45 AM gloops: it will change dimension in proportion to humidity
05:45 AM SpeedEvil: Grafting
05:46 AM jthornton: only along the grain not across the grain
05:46 AM fragalot: SpeedEvil: could take a while to put together a door like that, lol
05:46 AM gloops: other way round jthornton
05:46 AM SpeedEvil: fragalot: filthy casuals wanting their doors in under 20 years.
05:46 AM gloops: doesnt move much along the grain
05:47 AM jthornton: maybe I worded it wrong
05:47 AM gloops: well, depending how you look at it and word it yes lol
05:48 AM syyl: fragalot
05:48 AM syyl: i have a scraping project in the shop sitting right now
05:48 AM syyl: :D
05:48 AM gloops: i made some pine panels about 20 ear ago, 700mm wide, some have shrunk an inch accross the grain
05:48 AM syyl: but i guess i will not break out the powerscraper for it...
05:48 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbG-n--LFgQ
05:48 AM fragalot: syyl: do you want another, :P
05:48 AM syyl: https://www.instagram.com/p/BiHGNf8F2ym/?taken-by=stefan_gtwr
05:48 AM jthornton: around 15 minutes mark
05:48 AM fragalot: syyl: ooh that looks like fun
05:49 AM syyl: even my handscraper is to big..
05:49 AM syyl: i might braze a piece of carbide to a screwdriver ;)
05:49 AM fragalot: :P
05:49 AM syyl: should go over fairly quick, the bed is in good shape
05:49 AM syyl: but the cross slide is heavily worn
05:49 AM fragalot: yeah, it really helps if you're starting from something semi-flat
05:50 AM syyl: yep :)
05:50 AM fragalot: and not have to take off .2mm like i'm having to do, lol
05:50 AM syyl: all parts are even small enough for my dinky surface grinder
05:50 AM gloops: you need to mechanise that fragalot
05:50 AM syyl: haha yes. 0,2mm is a lot :\
05:50 AM syyl: better find a friend with a large vmc ;)
05:50 AM fragalot: it would be
05:51 AM syyl: put up a add on the internet
05:51 AM fragalot: the casting also has some weld spots in it, and hard spots in the casting
05:51 AM syyl: "looking for friendship with machinist."
05:51 AM syyl: "vmc with 800mm travel prefered"
05:51 AM gloops: cant you rig something up to run along it
05:52 AM fragalot: not really
05:53 AM fragalot: unless I bolt the hiwin rails onto the mill & use one of the fisso stands to hold on to a pencil grinder
05:53 AM fragalot: :D
05:53 AM syyl: please do that :D
05:53 AM fragalot: it's very tempting to at least try, lol
05:53 AM gloops: making a machine to correct errors in the machine thats going to make ..the machine
05:54 AM fragalot: gloops: exactly.
05:54 AM syyl: if you dont plan to get into the rebuilding buisness
05:54 AM syyl: i would definetly farm it out
05:54 AM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NGEQFJdmo4
05:55 AM fragalot: and the machine that is being built by the machine is going to machine parts to allow the machine to have a power-feed.. >.>
05:55 AM syyl: a friend had a lathe bed reground on all surfaces
05:55 AM fragalot: syyl: not professionally, but I do occasionally rebuild machines for acquintances
05:55 AM syyl: 1200mm bedlength, i think it was about 1500eur
05:55 AM fragalot: yeah that's more than the machine is worth :P
05:55 AM syyl: while it is a lot of money
05:56 AM fragalot: it's perfectly reasonable for that work, imho
05:56 AM syyl: i dont see myself rigg something working/precise up for the same money
05:56 AM gloops: a well made grinder like that would sell when youve done with it i bet
05:56 AM syyl: yeah
05:56 AM syyl: but it beeing "only" a rf45 mill
05:56 AM syyl: i think milling the ways on a decent machine will be perfectly fine
05:57 AM fragalot: a local company here actually imports rf45's directly from the factory & refurbishes them
05:57 AM syyl: interesting
05:57 AM fragalot: hand scraped ways, lapped spindle.. the works
05:57 AM fragalot: but they are 6k ex VAT
05:57 AM syyl: i think they make very decent machines
05:57 AM syyl: size and construction wise
05:57 AM fragalot: I got unlucky
05:57 AM syyl: but workmanshipwise a lot of them are a bit shitty
05:58 AM fragalot: the casting is terrible, and the previous owner didn't oil it, ever.
05:58 AM syyl: wow :(
05:59 AM syyl: i should go back in the shop
05:59 AM syyl: some cylindrical grinding is working
05:59 AM syyl: *waiting
06:13 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lNHJ5OpfdU
06:14 AM jthornton: that's a big crosscut sled
06:21 AM XXCoder: looking
06:30 AM XXCoder: cant watch video in middle of very heavy render gpu test lol
06:54 AM * Tecan >>> Auto-op est suspendu...
07:15 AM fragalot_ is now known as fragalot
07:16 AM fragalot: damn me stealing my nickname >.>
07:21 AM XXCoder: lol
07:37 AM gloops: i wonder why wood isnt recycled much
07:37 AM gloops: they collect bottles and plastic, clothes, paper, all kinds of stuff, but not wood
07:40 AM fragalot: gloops: it's sorted at our local tip
07:40 AM fragalot: well, all tips in .be
07:45 AM gloops: they do have seperate skips for wood at the dumpsite yeah
07:45 AM fragalot: paul sellers also has a video of him going through a few places picking out nice reclaimed lumber for a project
07:48 AM gloops: there is some recycling, probably more in industry, but the individual isnt really asked to sort wood out, no wood bin collection or anything
07:55 AM gloops: well, i might have an hour on converting this blower into a sucker
07:56 AM Tom_L: what's up?
07:57 AM gloops: ive got some kind of inflatable castle blower, which also sucks pretty strongly
07:57 AM hendrik_cnc: hello is someone using the probe_screen?
07:57 AM gloops: with a few adapations it will make dust extraction
07:57 AM hendrik_cnc: i get the same error as mentioned here: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/29187-work-with-probe?start=190#105394
07:58 AM Tom_L: gloops gonna make a vortex dust collector?
08:10 AM gloops: Tom_L yeah probably, im just pondering whether its worth messing about with this thing or just buy the extractor/motor
08:14 AM gloops: hendrik_cnc Ichs has got a youtube vid on the probe
08:43 AM jthornton: went for a ride on the trail, got a flat then didn't have the plastic thing to get the tire off and on so I pinched the new tube putting it back on. Had to walk out with the back wheel and the rack about a mile
08:44 AM * jthornton will walk back after breakfast to fetch the bike
08:49 AM ktchk: anyone drive laser cutter with pwm laser power with linuxcnc?
08:52 AM hendrik_cnc: got it to work, forgot to set the subroutine path
09:09 AM gloops: think its same principle as spindle/pwm ktchk
09:21 AM phipli: anyone know what the maximum current is for a european mains socket?
09:21 AM phipli: french / german style or both
09:25 AM hendrik_cnc: 16a
09:26 AM hendrik_cnc: @230v
09:26 AM enleth: for a full size CEE 7/5 or 7/5 16A
09:26 AM phipli: interesting
09:27 AM enleth: the flat "europlug" is 6A
09:27 AM phipli: that explains why cheap welders which have had UK plugs shoved on them have the fuse shorted
09:27 AM phipli: we're 13A
09:27 AM * phipli shudders
09:28 AM phipli: there is a second type of plug you can have here for 15A, but they're rare
09:28 AM phipli: only ever seen them in my grandparents shed... and they have 3-phase anyway
09:28 AM enleth: I've seen 7kVA single phase welders with a CEE plug
09:29 AM sync: You can pull 20A+ for some time through a schuko
09:29 AM phipli: technically our double sockets are rated to 20A over the two outlets
09:29 AM phipli: so you could be cheeky, but you don't get fuses that high
09:30 AM phipli: (usually)
09:32 AM phipli: enleth, thats pushing 25A isn't it?
09:52 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
10:07 AM enleth: phipli: something like that. Usually I slap a 32A 3ph plug with just neutral and one phase connected on such devices
10:09 AM enleth: (and PE, of course)
10:11 AM phipli: Hum
10:11 AM phipli: decent workbenches are expensive
10:12 AM phipli: there is one at my parents house with my name on it
10:12 AM phipli: but my dad decided to use it in the kitchen years ago so I suspect pinching it wouldn't be appreciated
10:13 AM phipli: lol. buying some racking for the shed
10:13 AM phipli: one of the sellers offers express shipping... if you select it, it doesn't increase the price
10:14 AM phipli: yes, I will have your free express shipping thank you.
10:14 AM * phipli suspects that the express shipping is very much the same shipping
10:17 AM stelios: gloops:
10:17 AM stelios: here?
10:27 AM gloops: hello
10:28 AM enleth: sync: sadly, many "schuko" plugs have internal connections so flimsy and shitty that it's not safe to assume blindly
10:28 AM enleth: phipli: I find it best to build own workbenches
10:29 AM enleth: phipli: unless you need drawers and so on, then it's a PITA
10:32 AM stelios: gloops: any suggestion for mdf feeds n speeds?i tryed 10k rpm with 1800mm/m in 3mm depth with 6mm 2f down cut bit. And it was screaming! the final cut came very good but the noise wasnt
10:34 AM gloops: so long as it isnt smoking heh
10:34 AM gloops: maybe increase rpm, it should cut through mdf like butter
10:36 AM gloops: also try conventional
10:40 AM gloops: anyway afk
10:45 AM Tom_L: what's an easy way to invert the color on a jpg?
10:45 AM Tom_L: or B&W image
10:45 AM syyl: irfanview?
10:49 AM rmu: convert -negate
10:54 AM Tom_L: thanks
10:59 AM phipli: Tom_L, gimp
10:59 AM phipli: or ImageMagic
11:00 AM phipli: ah, sorry, that is what convert is part of
11:00 AM phipli: what rmu said :)
11:00 AM * phipli is late to the party
11:02 AM Tom_L: yup, already a done deal :)
11:02 AM phipli: ImageMagick is awesome
11:02 AM phipli: I made a photobooth using it and some general python + one other program for a friends wedding
11:02 AM phipli: worked really well
11:03 AM phipli: tiled 4 pictures and added a banner
11:03 AM phipli: and printed it out
11:04 AM phipli: Was nervous as hell of it failing so I had a bluetooth adaptor connected to the serial port to monitor it from over the room
11:06 AM phipli: whoops, pulled the power on theCockerel by accident...
11:08 AM phipli: there we go...
11:08 AM phipli: now, few more seconds...
11:09 AM JT-Shop: afternoon phipli
11:10 AM phipli: hey JT-Shop
11:10 AM phipli: how goes?
11:13 AM IchGucksLive: hi all from a summer day in germany
11:14 AM IchGucksLive: phipli, gimp is best on setup i do all levelets with it
11:14 AM IchGucksLive: phipli, the catalog of the homepage are made with imagemagick
11:14 AM JT-Shop: one of the pullets has not laid an egg in the last 5 days...
11:14 AM phipli: we haven't had 4 eggs for ages
11:15 AM phipli: I suspect the bird that is being a bully
11:15 AM IchGucksLive: JT-Shop, need a replacement
11:15 AM sync: enleth: I'm not saying that you should, just that it works
11:16 AM JT-Shop: went for an early morning ride on the mountain bike, had a flat then pinched the replacement tube ended up walking out with the wheel
11:17 AM phipli: on dear
11:17 AM phipli: no puncture repair kit?
11:17 AM phipli: how was your charity walk by the way?
11:17 AM JT-Shop: yea, just fed up at that point and only had a mile to walk
11:18 AM sync: Haha
11:18 AM JT-Shop: Richard and I did well the ladies didn't make it up the first hill and rode in a golf cart the whole way lol
11:18 AM sync: I had that happen a few times
11:19 AM sync: Always sucks when you have multiple snakebites
11:19 AM sync: And run out of patches
11:19 AM phipli: JT-Shop, how far was it?
11:19 AM JT-Shop: the charity walk was 3 miles of up and down hill
11:21 AM JT-Shop: Richard is 70
11:22 AM JT-Shop: he is the guy that got a new liver last year his was eat up with cancer
11:24 AM JT-Shop: something makes my windoze pc just slow to a crawl
11:25 AM rmu: windows probably
11:26 AM JT-Shop: too bad good cad programs only run on windoze
11:26 AM sync: Maybe I should not run 1.3 bar in my tires :) but all of the grips
11:27 AM sync: NX runs on linux
11:27 AM sync: But one does not want to use the motif gui
11:27 AM JT-Shop: what is NX?
11:28 AM sync: A CAD software
11:28 AM phipli: expensive cad software
11:29 AM phipli: SolidEdge's big brother
11:29 AM JT-Shop: I've already spent my money on SolidWorks and OneCNC
11:30 AM phipli: Catia does too, but once again, expensive
11:30 AM Roguish: http://caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12:welcome-to-caelinux&catid=1:news&Itemid=29
11:30 AM Roguish: http://caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=39
11:31 AM IchGucksLive: sync, the NX open
11:31 AM Roguish: https://sourceforge.net/projects/caelinux/files/CAELinux2017/testing/
11:31 AM Roguish: NX = $$$$$$$$$$$
11:33 AM JT-Shop: Roguish: why don't you install it?
11:34 AM IchGucksLive: we work on the same items on freecad
11:34 AM JT-Shop: you just need to insert the CAELinux LiveDVD in your computer to turn it into a free and open engineering development workstation with CAD, CAM, CAE / FEA / CFD, electronic design and 3D printing features: no license and even no installation is required
11:34 AM IchGucksLive: and it is released every 2 days
11:34 AM Roguish: i've just recently downloaded the newer trial version, will install some time this next week.
11:34 AM JT-Shop: seems running from a dvd drive would be slow
11:35 AM JT-Shop: oh so you can install it
11:35 AM Roguish: i create VM machines to try stuff out on.
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: it has some cool CUT patern
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/data_services/resources/nx/12/nx_api/custom/en_US/open_c++_ref/a02466.html#a44a15e05782760516645bc6bbd10ff15
11:36 AM Roguish: a little slower than native, but better than liveCDs. also don't junk up my computer.
11:36 AM IchGucksLive: DID someone install the new 18.04
11:36 AM IchGucksLive: AND will Linuxcnc realtime run on it
11:37 AM Roguish: hey JT-Shop. got any 6i24's
11:37 AM IchGucksLive: im off till later
11:38 AM JT-Shop: yea, need one?
12:01 PM enleth: sync: and I'm just saying that sometimes it doesn't - a schuko plug built to code and wired with a nice thick calbe will, IMO, happily take continuous 20A, the prongs are beefy as fuck. Problem is, that thing you're holding that looks like a schuko might be a piece of crap with thin flimsy terminals inside
12:02 PM enleth: sync: I've used schuko for continuous 20A myself and the thing wasn't even warm, but that was a replaceable plug I wired myself and verified that the terminals on the prongs are nice and solid
12:05 PM enleth: same with the socket - some sockets use thin shitty contact plates with the wire spot welded on
12:06 PM sync: Yeah
12:06 PM sync: Also the spring pressure is some times too low
12:06 PM enleth: that 20A went through a socket wired right next to a 3ph one, off of a nice thick wire, and had thick solid brass contacts with proper screw terminals
12:06 PM enleth: so I knew it's safe
12:07 PM enleth: actually, I am pretty sure the current limits are usually derived from the socket, not the plug
12:09 PM enleth: plugs use solid metal prongs with an extremely high current and thermal capacity relatvie to their normative limits
12:09 PM enleth: but sockets use sheet metal contacts
12:10 PM enleth: same with 3ph sockets that use hollow tubes with sheet metal springs to accept the prongs
12:17 PM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rKyOF-nf_w
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: ;-)
12:17 PM * flyback BITES IchGucksLive
12:18 PM flyback: THOUGHT you guys might get a kick out of somrthing from the early times of machine tools
12:18 PM IchGucksLive: flyback, we might be mutch older then this
12:20 PM fragalot: friend of mine passed away a few months ago that was really into hit&miss engines & steam engines
12:20 PM fragalot: he even had one of the very first harley's ever made
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: oh around here are the steam days
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: in almost west part of germany
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: the CNC YT channel is now doen to 200 hits per day while 3500 has been max this year
12:24 PM IchGucksLive: lots of work noone likes me SMILE CRY Shame
12:24 PM sync: Roguish: yes, but it works
12:25 PM IchGucksLive: sync, not everyone needs a big CAD/CAM
12:25 PM IchGucksLive: lots of small easy parts can be done with Nativecam on the mashine side
12:26 PM flyback: i LOVED the history channel modern marvels - machine tools
12:26 PM flyback: one of the best episodes of all time
12:26 PM flyback: and they were talking about the early hand operated machine tools were game changers
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: its history HIWIN is now on hybrid
12:26 PM flyback: "wait more than one part exactely the same??!???!??! holy $(&*@($&$@*(&$(@"
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: flyback, where in the world are you
12:28 PM flyback: USA
12:28 PM flyback: you?
12:28 PM IchGucksLive: im in germany
12:28 PM flyback: neat
12:29 PM IchGucksLive: CNC flyback YT channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
12:29 PM sync: IchGucksLive: sure, but everytime I use freecad or something similar I want to kill myself
12:29 PM IchGucksLive: AGREE im 2
12:29 PM IchGucksLive: and im A programmer
12:30 PM flyback: thx
12:30 PM Tom_L: hey flapjack
12:30 PM IchGucksLive: Troichodal is now under discussion if a cnc needs it
12:31 PM flyback: hey Tom_L Tom_itx also right?
12:31 PM flyback: damn I can't remenmber anymore
12:31 PM Tom_L: one and the same
12:31 PM flyback: ltns :)
12:31 PM flyback: I had my teeth the last time we spoke :P
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: im off as night Fals Tornado and Storm Warning ON i need to take some Plant safty percussion
12:32 PM Tom_L: take cover IchGucksLive
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: GN8
12:32 PM flyback: lost a battle with gum disease
12:32 PM flyback: :/
12:32 PM flyback: no drugs required
12:33 PM Tom_L: haven't heard from pepsi in years
12:33 PM Tom_L: or at least many months
12:33 PM flyback: I think I did once
12:34 PM flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnYNEfv5IaY
12:34 PM flyback: wow
12:34 PM flyback: scary shit
12:34 PM flyback: plasma cutters
12:35 PM fragalot: nothing wrong with a plasma torch :)
12:35 PM flyback: oh im not saying they are bad
12:35 PM flyback: just scary the power
12:35 PM fragalot: interesting design he's got there
12:36 PM fragalot: flyback: yes, they do deserve respect, but so does any tool in the shop, really
12:36 PM flyback: exactely
12:36 PM fragalot: the nice thing about plasma is that it doesn't really hurt if you touch it because it vaporizes the nerves :P
12:36 PM flyback: yikes
12:36 PM flyback: he's using a slack cable though, I don't expect that to last long
12:39 PM fragalot: standard plasma torch cable
12:40 PM fragalot: whilst not intended for repeated continuous motion, it is designed to be used freehand, so it should last a while
12:44 PM MarcelineVQ: sure is twisting it hehe
12:58 PM miss0r: so anyone up to any cool projects?
12:59 PM flyback: yeah but it's not with cnc sorry
12:59 PM flyback: I been finding the stuff of my nightmares from 30-40 yrs ago
12:59 PM miss0r: I know the topic in here says linuxCNC, but most machining will do ;)
01:00 PM flyback: well they were machiens
01:00 PM flyback: pumping station
01:00 PM flyback: s
01:00 PM flyback: when you are like 4 austistic and you run into something bigger than you screeching etc it tends to skullfuck
01:01 PM gloops: monster pump fixation?
01:01 PM miss0r: o.0
01:02 PM flyback: no I wondered thru the woods with some kids and I ran into this
01:02 PM flyback: and it scared me so bad I am even scared to look at pictures
01:02 PM gloops: thats alright flyback, could have happened to anyone you know
01:03 PM flyback: the guy with me that was from a organization that helps us austistic people socialize more
01:03 PM flyback: he farted and Iwas so on edge I screamed and jumped 20 feet
01:03 PM gloops: i can see why that would put the wind up you yes
01:03 PM flyback: I gotta post all the pics of the places I been, sadly it's all long gone but I did find some clues
01:03 PM flyback: and a map proving all the places I thougth there was one
01:03 PM flyback: get this
01:03 PM flyback: just on instinct
01:04 PM flyback: didn't really remmeber details
01:04 PM flyback: I nailed every road pretty much
01:04 PM miss0r: so you are working on some portfolio of the places ou've been ?
01:05 PM flyback: yeah
01:05 PM miss0r: sounds extensive
01:06 PM gloops: well, you could get the old map, vectorise it, then v carve it or laser it, thats a popular thing now
01:06 PM flyback: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7777558,-80.3839996,3a,15y,217.76h,100.56t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sSy5j0iV10_73Dc0YIFXgdQ!2e0!5s20110601T000000!7i13312!8i6656
01:09 PM gloops: i decided to do nothing today really, just a bit of drawing and thinking
01:10 PM gloops: too busy atm, i will launch in a week or two
01:11 PM flyback: I do have a few pics of detainment ponds hang on
01:12 PM flyback: I got banned from imgurl
01:12 PM flyback: well not me, my email provider
01:13 PM gloops: sourcing supplies for finishing, firming up on designs etc
01:13 PM flyback: https://imgur.com/a/zZXsq
01:14 PM gloops: everything about this project has run like a well planned military campaign
01:15 PM JT-Shop: hmm the plasma pc boots as far as the ubuntu with 5 red dots stage then stops
01:17 PM flyback: I get lost in hallways
01:17 PM flyback: this whole project has helped me learn to use google maps, see how 2 roads side by side actually are the same destination
01:17 PM flyback: I even drive some unknown roads without total panic
01:17 PM flyback: JT-Shop, you think it's the hd?
01:18 PM flyback: I used ot be very anti software raid due to all the horror stories with early ones but now I run it on almost every pc I own
01:18 PM flyback: even the windows dynamnic disk raid 1 isn't bad
01:20 PM flyback: that's gotta be tough
01:20 PM gloops: XXCoder helped me boot debian when it was stuck
01:20 PM flyback: all the emi, and charge build up on all the equipment around a plasma pc
01:20 PM flyback: well I always boot a rescue disk and check the smart before I try to fix a pc that stopped booting
01:21 PM flyback: first task at my job as well
01:21 PM JT-Shop: I pressed esc during boot up and it booted up...
01:21 PM flyback: cause if you have shit on there you need to save, the last thing you want to do on a dying hd is keep trying to run off it
01:21 PM flyback: ddrescue is a awesome tool btw
01:22 PM flyback: im pulled windows installs off 3/4 dead hd's over a few days
01:22 PM gloops: ive had varying boot cycles tbh with ubuntu/mint, this one asks to select drive - even though there is only 1
01:25 PM gloops: what i might do in the week is test these bigger motors see if they actually work
01:50 PM Tecan: got all my stuff for modbus cnc finally
01:50 PM Tecan: im trying to figure out how to wire this up http://netpipe.ca/?page_id=507
02:01 PM Tom_L: the A & B connections are differential pairs
02:01 PM Tom_L: 4(blue) is -, 3(green/white) is + etc
02:02 PM Tom_L: looks pretty straightforward
02:02 PM Tecan: i found those diagrams elseware, was wondering if its what i needed
02:03 PM Tecan: should i use both wires or just the one
02:03 PM Tom_L: both what wires?
02:03 PM Tom_L: you need both for differential pairs
02:03 PM Tom_L: + & -
02:03 PM Tecan: 3/4 for a and 5/6 for b
02:04 PM Tecan: it was probably for higher voltage
02:04 PM Tom_L: 3 is +, 4 is - on that differential pair
02:22 PM Tecan: my modbus adapter only has a and b though
02:22 PM Tecan: not 2
02:32 PM Loetmichel: btw: drove my Opel Omega diesel to the Mother in law yesterday morning at 0600... was a bit in a hurry so i floored it. Did the 400km in 3:50h and had about 19.6mpg... on the way back in the late evening i had time so i locked in the cruise control at ~85mph... resulting in a 4:15h journey and 29.5mpg. Conclusion: flooring it is expensive AND doesent gain much time... ;)
02:37 PM JT-Shop: nice I just read "vent plug use with aluminum gearboxes is optional" after putting in the vent plug cost me $600
02:47 PM phipli: damn
02:48 PM phipli: JT-Shop, look on the bright side, at least it didn't say "do not install vent plug in aluminium gearboxes as it will cause catastrophic damage"
02:49 PM Loetmichel: hihi
02:49 PM Tecan: http://www.netpipe.ca/zen/Electronics/CNC/usb-modbus-adapter.jpg
02:51 PM JT-Shop: I had to replace the motor and the gearbox as the motor burned up from oil getting in and the gearbox was the wrong guess for ratio
02:52 PM Tom_L: Tecan, maybe they want you to wire it like this: http://www.hosteng.com/HW-Products/MB-Gateway/rs4853wire.jpg
02:52 PM Tom_L: no clue really
02:53 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop is this on the rock tumbler?
02:58 PM JT-Shop: aye
02:58 PM JT-Shop: something just set off the driveway alarm... walk down and see a 2' tall owl on a branch
03:01 PM phipli: lol
03:02 PM phipli: sounds like you're having a hoot
03:02 PM phipli: whats the alarm? home made? optical or pressure?
03:03 PM phipli: we have a special system - the gate clanks loudly when someone opens it
03:25 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ISVJL6/
03:25 PM JT-Shop: adding on to the run roof to keep rain off of the nest box and feeder
03:26 PM Tom_L: had to disable the spindle reverse on the mill... it's been popping fuses lately
03:27 PM Tom_L: when it stops from fwd it stops rather abruptly because the relay switches i believe causing too much back emf
03:27 PM Tom_L: i'm not using reverse anyway, just when i was testing rigid tapping
03:28 PM JT-Shop: no vfd?
03:29 PM Tom_L: no, i'm still using the sherline spindle
03:29 PM Tom_L: which has a control designed for fwd use only :)
03:29 PM Tom_L: they make one that has reverse built in but i'm not gonna go that route if i ever update it
03:29 PM Tom_L: rather just get a larger spindle motor
03:32 PM Tom_L: finally figured out workplanes on my cad cam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eGatPvK1wY&feature=youtu.be
03:33 PM Tom_L: never really switch between them much yet
03:33 PM Tom_L: workplane vs toolplane i should say
03:35 PM Tom_L: allowed me to verify my post too
03:36 PM Deejay: gn8
07:17 PM hazzy-dev: Tom_L: What CAM is that?
07:40 PM Tom_L: smartcam
08:35 PM pink_vampire: ?
08:36 PM pink_vampire: any life?
08:38 PM XXCoder: im dead but can chat anyway lol
08:38 PM XXCoder: feeling really awful after mowing back yard, and am still sick with flu
08:39 PM pink_vampire: awww, feel sorry for you.
08:39 PM XXCoder: it sucks but ill live lol
08:41 PM pink_vampire: i need to get some copper shims
09:31 PM jdh: get some copper shims.
