12:07 AM fragalot: hi
12:36 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest36741
01:00 AM fragalot: miss0r: you're not allowed in here today. get back to work!
01:00 AM miss0r: wtf! :]
01:00 AM miss0r: I am having my 'me' time... Coffee and a cigarette. Leave me be!
01:09 AM fragalot: morning dave
01:11 AM gloops: dont shout dave in here lol
01:12 AM miss0r: its no secret, that it is your name :D
01:13 AM gloops: no its not a secret, its my alt/nick
01:47 AM Deejay: moin
01:52 AM P1ersson_ is now known as P1ersson
01:53 AM gloops: mdf is a horrible material to have things made from
01:53 AM gloops: its the wood equivalent of plastic
01:53 AM gloops: it is however very good for making things from
02:09 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCARA-Robot-Mechanical-Arm-Hand-Manipulator-4-Axis-Stepper-Motor-Assembled/163017317205?
02:10 AM gloops: £10 starting bid
04:12 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
04:17 AM XXCoder: hey all
04:21 AM SpeedEvil: hey
04:21 AM XXCoder: any arcive news so far?
05:14 AM jthornton: morning
05:14 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton
06:39 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCCEvbU_BXQ
06:45 AM XXCoder: looking
06:46 AM enleth: is there any possible benefit to hardening a whole QCTP toolholder, other than just increased wear resistance?
06:47 AM enleth: like, better stiffness or vibration dampening?
06:47 AM XXCoder: jthornton: that clock is pretty cool. not my style but yeah
07:22 AM * Loetmichel is doing shielding enclosures for laser printer PCBs again... *milling* *bending* *threading* *soldering* *filing* *done* -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17098&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
07:35 AM * SpeedEvil thinks of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAjR4_CbPpQ
08:09 AM JT-Shop: asshole just filed a claim on paypal because he didn't receive the package yet
08:22 AM skunkworks: I hate people
08:24 AM gregcnc_: doesn't paypal have the tracking?
08:24 AM jthornton: yes\
08:26 AM jthornton: he demanded I send him the flight number and date of the flight and the container number none of which exists
08:27 AM gregcnc_: and he paid for overnight right?
08:27 AM jthornton: he has bought a lot of product from me but he will not anymore
08:27 AM jthornton: usps first class
08:27 AM gregcnc_: LOL
08:29 AM gregcnc_: that's a pain if PP is holding the funds
08:29 AM jthornton: yea the funds are on hold now
09:12 AM jdh: international via usps?
09:13 AM JT-Shop: yea
09:15 AM jdh: if you want definite shipping, pay for it.
09:17 AM jdh: I sold a $6k rebreather to a guy in .eu. he wanted it shipped usps and declared/insured for $500. then whined for weeks while tracking showed it sitting in destination customs
09:44 AM FinboySlick: Brave new world: https://www.tuxboard.com/photos/2018/04/fail-jour-de-chance-3.jpg
09:56 AM MarkusBec: for international to germany i use ups or fedex
09:56 AM MarkusBec: other only for i dont care deliverys
09:57 AM MarkusBec: jdh: ok 6k rebreather with usps most likely he was german :)
09:58 AM MarkusBec: did he complain 2 days after shipping that it has not arrived yet ? :)
10:19 AM miss0r: .seen fragalot
10:19 AM theCockerel: miss0r: I last saw fragalot at 2018-04-22 - 19:24:47 in here, saying gloops: it is far more likely that prior to putting it all in the enclosure you had another ground path somewhere
10:20 AM miss0r: oh.. I keep forgetting it does not work on fragalot :D
10:20 AM gloops: that was last saturday i think
10:31 AM hazzy-dev: everybody ignores fragalot, including theCockerel
10:31 AM hazzy-dev: :D
10:35 AM gloops: well, going to nip to the card shop for some gold or silver wrapping paper
11:34 AM jthornton: oh well lunch minute is over with back to work
11:36 AM Tom_L: hah, my kid went to the state skills competetion for CNC programming/operator and brought home gold
11:36 AM Tom_L: presented a blue print and had to hand code the part
11:38 AM Tom_L: looks like i'll be planning a trip to Louisville for nationals...
11:44 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
11:49 AM gloops: great stuff Tom_L
11:59 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, ive been on the HGH20 Rails to lok at they are real strong need 2hands to pull them
11:59 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, how hard have yours goiing
11:59 AM IchGucksLive: oh you used sbr
12:14 PM gloops: 2 hands to pull the bearings lol?
12:14 PM gloops: no, mine are free running, you can push gantry and it runs along on its own
12:15 PM gloops: sbr is not as accurate as you know, ok for wood though
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: i will get the 4Nm on it soon and see if it runs ok
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: 2of 3 scholols have vuild so i gueess that workes
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: no return
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: i personly neer used them
12:22 PM gloops: other thing with sbr - you can adjust the bearing
12:24 PM IchGucksLive: i saw it today you arte lost if they clamp
12:24 PM fragalot: hey
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: im off for today
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: hello annoying bot
12:44 PM theCockerel: CaptHindsight: 2018-04-27 - 03:36:40 <hazzy-dev> tell CaptHindsight his research skills are bar none
12:45 PM fragalot: lo
12:45 PM fragalot: l
12:48 PM gloops: sht, i bought all the silver foil wrapping paper the card shop had, just because the woman had the perfect body, and it doesnt work!
12:49 PM CaptHindsight: maybe you're doing it wrong, what is the goal?
12:49 PM MarcelineVQ: to impress the ladies with shiney-buying skill
12:49 PM gloops: experimenting with finishing mdf before cutting it, so sticking paper on etc, paper is great, plastic foil is not
12:50 PM gloops: contact adhesive is too rough and brings the silver off
12:50 PM gloops: pva doesnt stick it
12:51 PM gloops: gold leaf size doesnt, it needs some non aggressive thin glue that sticks plastic
12:52 PM CaptHindsight: problem contains too much drama, try again
12:52 PM gloops: i want to stick thin silver vinyl sheet to wood
12:52 PM MarcelineVQ: wallpaper glue maybe
12:53 PM gloops: actually thats it - i need sticky vinyl, not plain wrapping paper
12:53 PM MarcelineVQ: wonder what they use to stick vinyl to veneer
12:53 PM gloops: wallpaper glue might do it
12:54 PM MarcelineVQ: probably boring old rendered collagen white glue
12:54 PM gloops: paper wrapping paper works fine, you have to run sandpaper round the edges but it trims off perfect
12:54 PM gloops: school glue?
12:55 PM MarcelineVQ: yeah, though I guess that'a pva which you tried
12:55 PM gloops: hmm yeah, school use latex glue as well
12:56 PM MarcelineVQ: wonder if you can get animal glue still, what's that stuff called again hmm
12:56 PM gloops: the wrapping paper foil stuff would be perfect, its highly reflective and cheap and comes in big sheets
12:56 PM MarcelineVQ: hide glue
12:56 PM gloops: you could gold or silver leaf it but thats messing about
12:57 PM gloops: on 2ft high letter
12:58 PM gloops: solution is probably a paper backed silver foil paper
01:02 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A4-self-Adhesive-Gold-Silver-Scrapbooking-DIY-Craft-Paper-Sticker-10-Sheets/142384868851?

01:08 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mirror-Chrome-Vinyl-Car-Wrap-Air-Bubble-Free-Various-Size-Colours/390926700509?
01:48 PM miss0r: evening
02:43 PM hazzy-dev: This is great! I don't have to personally annoy people here any more, I can just get theCockerel to do it
03:11 PM fragalot: scraping's going well
03:11 PM fragalot: takes quite a while to take out .15mm of warp, lol
03:12 PM XXCoder: fun
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: good for you
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: ^5
03:16 PM miss0r|office2: are you about done, fragalot?
03:16 PM fragalot: Hell no.
03:16 PM miss0r|office2: :D
03:16 PM fragalot: but one side's nearly flat..
03:16 PM fragalot: ish
03:17 PM miss0r|office2: nice... I would need some picture documentation to verify ;)
03:17 PM CaptHindsight: are you using the proper shade of blue dye?
03:17 PM XXCoder: miss0r|office2: you can have something LOOK flat. no. I want certification of flatness ;)
03:18 PM fragalot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/MckG2Sp5nyokus8b2 <= after 4 passes
03:18 PM fragalot: ttps://photos.app.goo.gl/uxA428HkNDkXuiPh9 <= after like 40 passes
03:19 PM fragalot: still in the "roughing" stage, which takes absolutely forever because I have no clue what i'm doing :D
03:19 PM miss0r|office2: yup. getting there :D
03:19 PM miss0r|office2: Still have a ways to go :D
03:19 PM miss0r|office2: ...40 passes damn. either you have no clue, or you are trying to straighten a banana
03:19 PM miss0r|office2: ;)
03:19 PM fragalot: it is a banana
03:20 PM fragalot: well, not really
03:20 PM miss0r|office2: :]
03:20 PM fragalot: bananas only curve in one direction
03:21 PM miss0r|office2: fragalot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8NqeD73ZZ4 (23 seconds)
03:21 PM XXCoder: precise banana
03:22 PM miss0r|office2: Alright, i'm off to bed. Don't stay up too long now, ya hear? :] good luck with it
03:23 PM XXCoder: cooool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9JT9idPg94
03:44 PM gloops: https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/989954837801570307 haha
03:45 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/_tkr4UI1fL4?t=13m36s Hand Scraping Bridgeport Mill Knee Ways
03:45 PM XXCoder: gloops: poor guards when on freeway
03:46 PM XXCoder: but then if you got guards that can keep up you got super guards
03:46 PM gloops: at least they arent carrying the car these days anyway
03:48 PM fragalot: gloops: it's becaue that is a north korean car
03:48 PM fragalot: they might need those people to give it a push
03:48 PM XXCoder: fragalot: limo? no its not NK
03:49 PM gloops: never thought of that fragalot lol
03:49 PM XXCoder: its prbably one of 100 non-NK cars there
03:49 PM XXCoder: 90 being owned by that guy
03:50 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: why is he scraping the top part of that dovetail? Isn't that part non-functional?
03:50 PM fragalot: never mind - he said for appearance in the comments :P
03:50 PM XXCoder: yay! we can have brown air that almost could be cut with knife back soon! EPA just killed air quality regulation
03:51 PM gloops: may be wear?
03:51 PM gregcnc_: pfft chinese survive without air
03:51 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: doesn't matter , everything must be flat!
03:51 PM gloops: we will eventually evolve external lungs like a salamander
03:52 PM fragalot: XXCoder: air is a fluid, all trump's administration is doing, is making it closer to a liquid.
03:52 PM gregcnc_: meanwhile people in our county are afraid of what a solar farm will do to the property values
03:52 PM XXCoder: exactly. just add some water and we got wonderful soup
03:53 PM Deejay: gn8
03:53 PM gloops: https://futurism.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/axolotl-600x600.jpg
03:54 PM gloops: in alchemy, salamanders are actually fire creatures, only salamanders and dragons can live in fire
03:56 PM XXCoder: Doctor Blight approves, fragalot!
04:01 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc_: it sucks all the sunlight from the air so the neighborhood goes dark
04:02 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: that's why they install those huge fans
04:02 PM fragalot: to blow some hot air back to the dark areas
04:03 PM XXCoder: fragalot: watch out for doctor blight, she might complain about those fans
04:05 PM CaptHindsight: if i could come up with a solar panel that doesn't need those big fans I could make millions
04:05 PM XXCoder: darkpanels would make you ALL the money.
04:05 PM gloops: we dont need to make anything - everything we need was provided
04:06 PM gloops: but of course we werent satisfied with that
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: convert dark to electricity?
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: that's genius!
04:08 PM XXCoder: if you could extract energy from vacuum (yes there is energy there) it would be techinically darkpanels
04:09 PM fragalot: technically, that's what the very first engines did
04:09 PM gloops: or..master the technique of transcendental illumination
04:09 PM gloops: astral lighting
04:09 PM CaptHindsight: I use dark to cool the shop
04:09 PM gregcnc_: one of the concerns mentioned was radiation?
04:12 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: your starting point for making "darkpanels" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_energy
04:12 PM skunkworks: actually - if you could make solar cells make power from infrared...
04:12 PM XXCoder: that'd be heatpanels
04:13 PM XXCoder: I think thats what they use for RNGs
04:13 PM XXCoder: voyager 1 and 2 uses em
04:13 PM XXCoder: still functional after 40 years
04:14 PM XXCoder: though very low in power now, they turn heat off to perform rest of stuff, sensor data, transmission of data, then back to heat before evrything breaks due to cold
04:14 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: that's background energy
04:16 PM XXCoder: what is "background energy"?
04:16 PM fragalot: XXCoder: start here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyG9_UFJVoI
04:20 PM XXCoder: well time to reboot and install newer linux. yay. wish me luck
04:24 PM gloops: well, i need some decent tooling now, decent endmills any ive got ballnose/radius cutters
04:25 PM gloops: i need downcut sirals, upcut spirals, and they also do a up and down spiral i think ill get some of those too
04:25 PM gloops: just to make sure ive got everything covered
04:41 PM Stelios: hello there i am facing a problem with my cnc when i change the speed in linuxcnc.
04:41 PM Stelios: https://youtu.be/JQUt2XS1qsU
04:41 PM Stelios: here you can see what is the problem
04:42 PM Stelios: if any1 has some time plz tell me what the problem might be
04:43 PM fragalot: you're asking too much from that machine to run it at those speeds
04:43 PM fragalot: reduce the maximum speed to around 2500mm/min in your stepconf settings
04:44 PM Stelios: the motors of this cnc are new an they are nema 23 425oz
04:44 PM CaptHindsight: Stelios: did the machine ever work correctly at those speeds?
04:45 PM Stelios: tthe old motors i had on this cnc was nema 23 170oz. and they run up to 2000mm with no problem
04:45 PM Stelios: so the new motors that they are 425oz cant go faster than 2500mm?
04:46 PM fragalot: usually getting motors to run at a higher rpm requires better drivers and/or a higher voltage
04:46 PM pcw_mesa: more torque doesn't necessarily mean more speed
04:46 PM CaptHindsight: Stelios: are you using software stepping or an FPGA?
04:47 PM Stelios: yeap i got new drivers too and the power supply i use is 36V
04:48 PM Stelios: CaptHindsight: i am not sure i know the anser to this sorry
04:50 PM Stelios: i use the wantai 425 oz nema 23 motors with its wantai drivers. on the drivers i have 400 stepping and 4,2 peek current
04:52 PM fragalot: what leadscrew?
04:52 PM Stelios: 4mm
04:53 PM fragalot: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wantai-Nema23-3PCS-Stepper-Motor-57BYGH115-003B-425oz-in-3A-Dual-Shaft-CNC-Cut-/181559113244?clk_rvr_id=1512848462198&rmvSB=true
04:54 PM fragalot: are those the motors you have?
04:55 PM Stelios: https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/DE-ship-wantai-CNC-Kit-4Axis-Nema23-Motor-425oz-in-dual-shaft-Driver-4-2A-Power/152481493148?hash=item23809af09c:g:7YIAAOSw-KFXedJL
04:55 PM Stelios: these are the motors and the drivers i have
04:57 PM fragalot: ok, at 36V those should reliably go to around 340rpm, and with a leadscrew of 4mm, that comes to 1360 mm/min
04:57 PM fragalot: any higher and you lose torque
04:57 PM fragalot: according to this calculator: http://www.daycounter.com/Calculators/Stepper-Motor-Calculator.phtml
04:58 PM Stelios: i see
04:58 PM Stelios: so the problem i have is that i have low voltage for the speed i need?
04:59 PM fragalot: increasing the voltage to 50V, the maximum your drives can take gives you 1880mm/min
04:59 PM fragalot: if you can live with the reduced torque you can exceed that.
04:59 PM fragalot: another alternative would be a coarser leadscrew
04:59 PM fragalot: which also trades torque for speed
05:00 PM Stelios: without loosing torque can go to 1880 right?
05:00 PM fragalot: yes
05:00 PM Stelios: at 50v
05:00 PM Stelios: ok i se now i get it
05:00 PM Stelios: tnx a lot for your time and your help
05:00 PM Stelios: you guys rock
05:01 PM fragalot: glad to help :)
05:01 PM fragalot: i'm off -- ttyl.
05:09 PM phipli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3cMPJjuj2w
05:10 PM gregcnc_: best pocket knife per comments http://a.co/8NRTKnB
05:10 PM XXCoder: lol love the front/back engine joke start
05:14 PM phipli: XXCoder, I didn't spot that until you said :)
05:14 PM phipli: wondered why they ran it in and out again
05:14 PM XXCoder: phipli: love it when they have dispoline to keep desks clean
05:15 PM XXCoder: I spotted it because its quite old joke
05:15 PM phipli: grew up with VWs... so I forget it is weird
05:15 PM phipli: heh
05:16 PM phipli: work mate proudly told me how the V8 he rebuilt made ~26 mpg after he built it
05:16 PM phipli: so I politely asked "oil or fuel"
05:16 PM phipli: and then ran away
05:16 PM XXCoder: lol
05:17 PM XXCoder: theres vw somewhere where "back or front for engine" answer is "both"
05:17 PM XXCoder: guy crammed a v8 in beetle
05:17 PM XXCoder: but kept stock engine also
05:17 PM phipli: well, you have to have something to heat the interior
05:17 PM XXCoder: lol
05:18 PM CaptHindsight: I like the crank polisher with handbars
05:18 PM XXCoder: my bro has a shell of 1967 beetle
05:18 PM CaptHindsight: handlbars
05:18 PM XXCoder: apparently its getting really rare
05:18 PM XXCoder: value is going up
05:19 PM phipli: really?
05:19 PM phipli: bugs are interesting
05:19 PM phipli: there are so many spares available
05:19 PM phipli: considering their age
05:19 PM XXCoder: I want to grab any vw beetle and make it electric
05:19 PM phipli: few of them on youtube
05:19 PM phipli: interesting things
05:19 PM XXCoder: yeah but 1967 specific year is super popular
05:20 PM phipli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqVzMysSgpM
05:20 PM phipli: things like that, but many others
05:20 PM CaptHindsight: old hippie cars
05:20 PM XXCoder: designed by nazis yeah
05:20 PM XXCoder: hitler himself went in vw fctory and prised "people's car"
05:21 PM XXCoder: vw have a weird history.
05:21 PM phipli: must mean they're evil
05:21 PM XXCoder: nah things isnt good or evil by itself
05:21 PM CaptHindsight: just awful :)
05:22 PM XXCoder: just found it VERY odd that hippies used cars with branding that hitler supported
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: it was the 60's
05:22 PM XXCoder: yeah 20 years later
05:22 PM XXCoder: still found it odd anyway lol
05:27 PM CaptHindsight: came up next on autoplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVtrnxx3rTE
05:28 PM CaptHindsight: I forgot how easy these were to rebuild
05:28 PM CaptHindsight: same for GM
05:28 PM XXCoder: is that same channel as previous?
05:28 PM CaptHindsight: Hagerty
05:28 PM XXCoder: being dirty is also ford's superpower
05:29 PM XXCoder: wtf ios that disk thing that moves on block
05:29 PM XXCoder: lapper?
05:29 PM CaptHindsight: all the rebuild videos and shows I've seen in the past all use all those chrome aftermarket parts
05:30 PM CaptHindsight: I guess all the originals are too difficult to come by
05:30 PM XXCoder: isnt chrome retain heat better than stock?
05:31 PM XXCoder: nice, they are very careful with not mixing cylinder parts
05:34 PM XXCoder: phip['s link of electric vw is awesome
05:35 PM XXCoder: though I dont want syuper powerful one. just more miles
05:37 PM XXCoder: 250 bucks a month paid to guy from utility in summers nice
05:39 PM XXCoder: "my attitude has changed 365 degrees." so, only slight change eh?
05:43 PM gloops: i get 5m/min from 425 oz motors
05:44 PM gloops: oh hes gone
05:45 PM gloops: you know the history of the beetle?
05:46 PM gloops: everyone was supposed to get a car, the workers all paid a small amount from their wages to build the factory
05:46 PM gloops: in the end nobody got a car, the factory was used for war production
05:47 PM XXCoder: didnt know thjat part. interesting
05:48 PM gloops: yes, Hitler was a great admirer of Henry Ford, he saw how his production techniques enabled all americans to own a car - the model T, the beetle was to be the german model T
05:48 PM XXCoder: yeah I know that part, but didnt know workers paid into factory. wow!
05:49 PM gloops: oh yeah, it was like a national co-operative
05:49 PM gloops: the only thing they got to drive was tanks
05:49 PM XXCoder: I guess it made a lot of Things
05:52 PM gloops: the germans made some good stuff in those days
05:57 PM gloops: the thing with germany, its had a kind of naopleon complex, in europe
05:57 PM gloops: it was always good enough, but it never got anywhere
05:58 PM gloops: so it had to prove itself, it had to try harder than the rest, like a little man sometimes does
09:19 PM Tom_L: anyone awake?
09:26 PM roycroft: given the population of the planet and average percentage of the day that people sleep, i should imagine that approximately five thousand million people are awake at any given time :)
09:30 PM roycroft: on #linuxcnc, though, it appears that only yourself and one smartass are awake at the moment
09:37 PM MarcelineVQ: two smartasses at least
09:56 PM ziper: roll call?
09:57 PM MarcelineVQ: why is it called roll call and not role call anyway
09:59 PM ziper: short for scroll
09:59 PM MarcelineVQ: plausible enough, or it's a rolling (ongoing) call
10:11 PM Tom_L: ok smartasses, i've got a gcode question...
10:12 PM Tom_L: visual: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/test_block.jpg
10:12 PM Tom_L: actual is more complicated
10:13 PM Tom_L: ok, i cut the profile using G17 and i want to cut the 3/8" slots with a ballnose sweeping the Y axis
10:13 PM Tom_L: so would i position the cutter with G17 to the first slot start location then switch to G19 and swing the arc and back to G17 to position to the next slot and repeat?
10:16 PM Tom_L: G17 G0 x-1, y-1, z1
10:17 PM Tom_L: then G19 G3 xx yy ii jj
10:17 PM Tom_L: then G17 G0 x-4 z1
10:17 PM Tom_L: and repeat?
10:18 PM Tom_L: * G17 X-4, y-1, z1
