12:27 AM IchGucksLive: good morning from germany
12:31 AM IchGucksLive: summer fealing outside
12:31 AM fragalot: yup
12:31 AM IchGucksLive: sunn is riing quickly as temps are
12:34 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden
12:34 AM pink_vampire: how is a hydraulic jack oil ? as non-detergent sae 10 oil for my lathe
01:19 AM Deejay: moin
02:19 AM gloops: almost ready to start modelling with blender, meshes open up a new world of possibilities
02:20 AM gloops: i.e virtually anything
03:34 AM MarcelineVQ: gloops: consider zbrush as well if you find you like modeling
03:36 AM MarcelineVQ: if you use fusion I believe it can import/export stl and zbrush can import or export stl, as can blender, so you can work in either direction to a point
03:37 AM MarcelineVQ: I haven't used blender in a long long time so I'm not sure if these days it subsumes zbrush for clay-like modeling, have a look and see
03:49 AM gloops: i have seen some vids of zbrush and it looks good, tbh i dont think ive go time to learn any more apps yet lol
03:50 AM gloops: you can do clay like with blender, ive been trying to master mesh first
04:16 AM XXCoder: boo
04:37 AM XXCoder: hey guys is indictor arm fixable?
04:37 AM XXCoder: mine has ends a little bit loose
04:46 AM jthornton: morning
04:47 AM XXCoder: hey jt
04:47 AM XXCoder: you ever had to fix indictor arm?
04:47 AM jthornton: indicator arm? what kind?
04:48 AM XXCoder: cheapass one. its kind with magnetic base
04:48 AM XXCoder: with knob that locks everything in position
04:49 AM jthornton: I have several different kinds with a magnetic base
04:49 AM jthornton: a single knob locks all the arms
05:03 AM jthornton: I have this one http://www.noga.com/Products/mini/Mini%20Holders/NF1033/360%C2%B0_NF_holder_3%7Cfs%7C8%22_permanent_-_NF1033
05:04 AM XXCoder: looking if its cheap enough ill grab one. but same time noga tend not to be.
05:04 AM jthornton: is yours like that?
05:04 AM XXCoder: its very different lol base is anyway
05:05 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L5T2ZA8/
05:06 AM XXCoder: yunknown brand to me but smaller version of that yeagh
05:06 AM XXCoder: its pretty small, 5 inches tall when stright up no indictor?
05:11 AM jthornton: I had to make some brackets for the electric fence http://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/fence/
05:11 AM jthornton: seems no one makes any to fit the corner post lol
05:12 AM XXCoder: you milled your own? I guess also bent
05:12 AM jthornton: yea then tig welded the parts together and powder coated them
05:13 AM XXCoder: I always wanted to try powdercoat
05:14 AM jthornton: every time I use my press brake I'm so glad I made a back gauge for it so I can get repeatable bends
05:14 AM XXCoder: nice!
05:15 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/press-brake/
05:16 AM jthornton: I bought a press brake but it was a piece of shit http://gnipsel.com/images/press-brake/old-press-brake.jpg
05:16 AM jthornton: so I bought the punch and die and made my own
05:24 AM jthornton: I had to get my buddy to machine the holes in the top bar for the bearings, none of my mills could do it in one setup
05:24 AM XXCoder: awesome :)
05:25 AM jthornton: I had to build a blast cabinet so my powder coat would come out good http://gnipsel.com/images/blast-cabinet/
05:27 AM XXCoder: man I cant wait for having my own area in shop
05:27 AM XXCoder: so I can start making wood stuff
05:29 AM jthornton: I need to get a better table saw, mine is old and sucks
05:40 AM jthornton: time for the chickens to wake up
05:40 AM jthornton: XXCoder: interesting thing about chickens things like thunderstorms and snow will make some of them stop laying eggs for a few days
05:41 AM XXCoder: I wonder why
05:41 AM XXCoder: too scared to lay?
05:41 AM jthornton: yup
05:42 AM XXCoder: snow one is bit odd
05:42 AM jthornton: once my buddy had a weasel get in his coop and kill a couple and the rest stopped laying for a week or two
05:42 AM XXCoder: "ahh everythings white!"
05:42 AM jthornton: it's like wtf is that
05:44 AM XXCoder: yeah
05:46 AM jthornton: if they have not had any lettuce in a while when I toss some out they walk around it for a while then they tear bit off and eat it all
05:47 AM jthornton: if I give them lettuce two days in a row the second day they jump on it when I toss it out to them
05:47 AM XXCoder: amazing dinsours eh heh
05:47 AM jthornton: yea
08:29 AM JT-Shop: well I just ruined the last bit of 1/2 x 2 7075 I had in stock
08:55 AM Loetmichel: *ha!* Its magic! One day sun on the hood and all the bubbles disappeared... only the foldover below the BMW logo didnt vanish. Good enough until i get a new rust-free hood though... -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=12721&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
08:57 AM Loetmichel: uups wrong link. http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=17064&g2_imageViewsIndex=1

09:43 AM miss0r: Don't you just hate having the EXACT amount of stock needed for an operation, only to have a hard time doing it all in one setup ?
09:43 AM miss0r: :)
09:46 AM Tecan: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/123041928624
09:46 AM Tecan: anyone know of a stainless steel mechanical keyboard ?

09:48 AM IchGucksLive: Brigi_, ;-)
09:48 AM Tecan: replacement keytops would be suffice too
09:48 AM gregcnc: ocean going machine?
09:49 AM Brigi_: IchGucksLive, What's up?
09:49 AM Tecan: more like my stuff got wrecked from fentanyl
09:49 AM Tecan: ideot friends brought it over on their shoes
09:49 AM IchGucksLive: Tecan, if you use silikon its way cheeper
09:49 AM Tecan: it stays in plastic even after washing
09:50 AM Tecan: pretty nasty stuff
09:50 AM IchGucksLive: Brigi_, bright sunshine in Germany
09:50 AM gregcnc: theirs a guy making anodized aluminum keys, but not full sets
09:50 AM Tecan: aluminum leaves residue
09:50 AM Brigi_: IchGucksLive, Very good! Same here in Colorado, though it's pretty windy.
09:50 AM miss0r: that keyboard you linked to is actualy looking pretty sweet
09:50 AM Tecan: that grey stuff that smells like zing

09:52 AM Tecan: looks great too, but i decided on the smaller ones because of workflow, ide prefer a seperate mouse
09:53 AM Tecan: apple should make usb metal keyboards like their laptops used to have
09:53 AM pink_vampire: it's wayy to big
09:53 AM pink_vampire: and also to hard to work for long time
09:54 AM IchGucksLive: Tecan, PAPOON7200 at 35USD

09:55 AM pink_vampire: ip 68 is better
09:56 AM IchGucksLive: pink_vampire, you need to make it ip68 yourself by framing it watertight
09:56 AM Tecan: looks like its missing a few keys :)
09:57 AM IchGucksLive: Tecan, Sasse ERG2 Keyboard / Edelstahl Tastatur USB Anschluss

10:03 AM Brigi_: https://www.ebay.com/itm/67-keys-Stainless-steel-computer-keyboard-with-touchpad-for-industrial-kiosk/123041928634
10:03 AM IchGucksLive: selroc, you need to fit in a mashine setup and the kinetict for point
10:04 AM IchGucksLive: selroc, the problem is it might only work for one
10:04 AM IchGucksLive: as ACXYZ
10:04 AM IchGucksLive: or BA

10:09 AM IchGucksLive: my english gets lost on this
10:09 AM IchGucksLive: plumb
10:10 AM IchGucksLive: perpendicular
10:10 AM Tecan: http://www.laptopkey.com/blog/?p=12 i guess they used to use silver+aluminum on macbook keys
10:10 AM IchGucksLive: selroc, still on
10:10 AM Tecan: oops
10:12 AM IchGucksLive: Brigi_, thats the way it goes you try to help and nothing in response
10:13 AM Tecan: nm those are plastic too
10:14 AM Brigi_: IchGucksLive, Judging by his first question, english might not be selroc's first language either. Maybe he's just working through it.

10:20 AM miss0r: miss0r: "fragalot: Have you seen the videos yet?" fragalot: "miss0r: No, I'm still at work" miss0r: "fragalot: blah blah blah..."
10:26 AM fragalot: ^
10:26 AM fragalot: was about to close up & head home :)
10:29 AM Tecan: found one of these https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Bastron-B45-USB-Medical-Keyborad-IP67-Waterproof-Glass-TouchPad-Wire-Health-U7C0/332595922329
10:30 AM Tecan: would it be the same without a button though
11:06 AM Tecan: aparently some of the touchscreen keyboards have alot of lag
11:11 AM fragalot: Hi.
11:13 AM miss0r: hello
11:13 AM fragalot: I like how this video begins
11:13 AM fragalot: 6 tons of awesome.
11:14 AM miss0r: yeah.
11:14 AM miss0r: What he is building is awesome
11:14 AM fragalot: what he's using to build it is also far beyond the average DIYer xD
11:14 AM miss0r: yeah
11:23 AM MrHindsight: Elon Musk https://jalopnik.com/tesla-switching-to-24-7-shifts-to-push-for-6-000-model-1825335216
11:24 AM MrHindsight: wants 10x better precision than any other car
11:24 AM roycroft: hey folks, this is not cnc-related, but cad-related - i hope folks don't mind (not that we've never gone off-topic here)
11:24 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
11:26 AM roycroft: i have autocad 2008, and that's well beyond end of support, of course
11:26 AM roycroft: recently i've had an issue that in all these years has never occured before, but now it's happening constantly
11:26 AM fragalot: roycroft: What seems to be the problem?
11:26 AM roycroft: when i move objects, especially dimensions, by dragging them, i get artifacts that do not go away
11:26 AM roycroft: yellow-orange 'x's where i move the object
11:26 AM roycroft: they don't show up on output
11:26 AM cradek: if that's a new problem, it might be your video hardware
11:26 AM roycroft: but it's annoying because it makes it difficult to work in model space
11:26 AM roycroft: it's on two different machines, cradek
11:26 AM cradek: or if it's on windows, a video driver thing
11:26 AM roycroft: and i've never seen the x's before
11:27 AM fragalot: roycroft: did you recently update the video drivers?
11:27 AM roycroft: no
11:27 AM roycroft: well
11:27 AM roycroft: not directly
11:27 AM roycroft: i run in virtual machines
11:27 AM roycroft: so it's possible that vmware fusion updated drivers
11:27 AM roycroft: i don't think this happened the last time i updated vmware fusion, but i'm not certain
11:27 AM roycroft: to me it seems more like a setting that is getting propogated
11:28 AM roycroft: i use templates for my drawings
11:28 AM roycroft: so what i do typically is this
11:28 AM roycroft: when dimensioning a drawing, i'll do a dimlin
11:28 AM roycroft: then a continued dimension, where i go off the initial dimension origin
11:28 AM cradek: I've only used R12 but it seems like there was a display setting called blips? or something? that affected whether it drew a thing where you clicked
11:29 AM roycroft: so i do click click click click on all the points i dim
11:29 AM roycroft: and they all pile up on each other
11:29 AM roycroft: when i'm done i drag each dimension away from the object so that they are no longer on top of each other
11:29 AM roycroft: and whenever i do that i get the big orangeish 'x' where i drag the dimension
11:29 AM roycroft: hmm
11:30 AM roycroft: i'll look for that
11:30 AM roycroft: i'm thinking i did something inadvertently in my settings that i saved to my template
11:30 AM Rab: roycroft, if you minimize and restore the window, does that remove the artifacts?
11:30 AM cradek: http://evstudio.com/blipmode-autocad-command-to-remove-the-pick-point-crosses/
11:30 AM cradek: these are blips - doubt that's what you are describing
11:30 AM roycroft: no, nothing removes them
11:31 AM roycroft: let me see if i can do a screen capture of a vm
11:32 AM roycroft: http://www.roycroft.us/Acad.png
11:32 AM roycroft: there
11:33 AM cradek: heh I bet those ARE blips
11:33 AM roycroft: and it's not blipmode
11:33 AM roycroft: i've tried blipmode off
11:33 AM roycroft: to no effect
11:33 AM cradek: they sure look like they're on purpose
11:33 AM roycroft: yes
11:33 AM roycroft: but i don't know what they are
11:33 AM roycroft: more importantly, i don't know how to make them go away!
11:33 AM roycroft: that's all i want
11:34 AM cradek: if you hit r for redraw do they stay or go?
11:34 AM roycroft: i've even done ^-a erase to select all and erase
11:34 AM roycroft: redraw doesn't do it
11:34 AM roycroft: ^-a erase wipes everything i want to keep and leaves what i don't want
11:34 AM roycroft: it's a really weird problem
11:34 AM Rab: Zoom in/out?
11:34 AM roycroft: that just makes them bigger or smaller
11:34 AM cradek: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?146803-Blips-Grrr!!!!
11:35 AM cradek: oh yours is older than this
11:35 AM cradek: hmm
11:35 AM MrHindsight: https://autodesk.i.lithium.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/199490iF222555BA8ED901F?v=1.0
11:35 AM * cradek shrugs
11:35 AM roycroft: it's not blipmode
11:35 AM roycroft: like i said, i already tried blipmode off
11:35 AM MrHindsight: pic of blipmode ^^
11:35 AM roycroft: and this is 2008 - blipmode is still supported in 2008
11:36 AM cradek: ok now I accept they're not blips :-)
11:36 AM roycroft: my stuff is different than that, mrhindsight (when did you get demoted btw>)
11:37 AM roycroft: but the appearance of blips may have changed from release to release
11:37 AM MrHindsight: googled autocad + blipmode, then the tab for images
11:38 AM roycroft: unfortunately there are like 187,429 autocad variables to sort through to try to find what that is and how to toggle it
11:38 AM MrHindsight: found one for X's with 2008
11:39 AM cradek: I assume you looked through all of dimstyle
11:39 AM cradek: I really think if they don't disappear when you redraw, they're not blips (no matter what blips looked like then)
11:40 AM roycroft: yes, cradek
11:40 AM roycroft: it doesn't only happen when dimensioning
11:40 AM roycroft: but dimensioning is the main thing i do when i grab and drag
11:41 AM Beachbumpete1: Hrm never heard of blipmode ;)
11:41 AM MrHindsight: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-forum/2008lt-x-s-appear-on-screen/td-p/2014445/page/2
11:41 AM roycroft: when moving objects i generally use the move command, select the objects, base point, and insertion point
11:41 AM Beachbumpete1: what program autocad or a clone?
11:42 AM roycroft: autocad 2008
11:42 AM roycroft: the real deal
11:42 AM roycroft: which is why it's so old - i can't afford to upgrade :)
11:42 AM roycroft: and it does what i need to do
11:42 AM Beachbumpete1: Ooh I use draftsight but most things are similar
11:42 AM roycroft: obviously it does more than i need - it gives me free, annoying orange x's
11:42 AM roycroft: i ran this for 10 years without the x's
11:43 AM roycroft: now they're everywhere!
11:43 AM roycroft: they're like tribbles!
11:43 AM Beachbumpete1: aah the troubles with tribbles
11:43 AM roycroft: you can't have just one tribble
11:43 AM roycroft: if you get only one, there is a 100% chance it's a pregnant female
11:44 AM Beachbumpete1: my partner says they are construction points/marks
11:44 AM Beachbumpete1: says its a setting
11:44 AM MrHindsight: similar issue and it was something about polar coordinates and Unchecking autosnap
11:44 AM roycroft: hmm, i do have polar snap enabled
11:45 AM roycroft: let me experiment with that
11:45 AM roycroft: of course it's not happening right now
11:45 AM MrHindsight: link above ^^
11:46 AM roycroft: it only happens most of the time, nto all the time
11:46 AM cradek: ugh
11:47 AM roycroft: ok, i tried that
11:47 AM MrHindsight: https://forums.autodesk.com/autodesk/attachments/autodesk/43/73843/1/X'S%20IN%20ACAD.JPG
11:47 AM roycroft: tools->settings->draft->autosnap settings
11:47 AM roycroft: uncheck marker
11:48 AM roycroft: now to see if that worked
11:48 AM roycroft: which may take a while, since the behavior was not manifesting itself a couple minutes ago
11:49 AM roycroft: the x's that were already there did not disappear though
11:49 AM roycroft: but i can live with that, as long as no new ones show up
11:50 AM gloops: fragalot make one of these when you get good with the epoxy https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b3/9b/4c/b39b4c5126410f03d5b79908eadd36ea.jpg
11:50 AM MrHindsight: gloops: no news on Archivist?
11:50 AM Beachbumpete1: I like those epoxy wood projects some glow in the dark like that
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:51 AM gloops: no his ex bass said he was ringing at quarter to six, nobody has yet, although not checked messages, 5 minutes
11:51 AM gloops: ex boss
11:51 AM roycroft: autosnap markers are definitely what i'm dealing with
11:51 AM mtpocketscnc1: hi all. great table top gloops.
11:52 AM gloops: does bring the grain of the wood out Beachbumpete1
11:52 AM roycroft: and i cannot reproduce the behavior when dragging over a snap point
11:52 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, how is the performence getting
11:52 AM roycroft: now to reenable and see if the behavior returns
11:52 AM gloops: i didnt make it mtpocketscnc1 heh
11:52 AM Beachbumpete1: Looks sweet
11:52 AM gloops: Ichs probably not get on the machine while the weekend again now
11:52 AM roycroft: ok
11:52 AM roycroft: this is weird
11:53 AM roycroft: when i reenable, the marker shows up when i cross a snap point
11:53 AM roycroft: but when i drop the dimension label on the snap point the marker disappears
11:53 AM roycroft: i.e. it is not persistent
11:53 AM roycroft: however, all the old ones are still there, and i still cannot get rid of them
11:53 AM mtpocketscnc1: I made my machine big enough to do those. They are high on my priority list
11:53 AM roycroft: but at least i know what they are now, and how to toggle them
11:53 AM roycroft: thanks for that!
11:53 AM MrHindsight: your welcome, not mine
11:54 AM mtpocketscnc1: gotta find someone round here to get the slabs from
11:54 AM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
11:54 AM roycroft: sometimes alternative google fu is all that is needed :)
11:54 AM gloops: well, you can skim the wood slab flat, make log slices fit together stuff like that, on the cnc, im not sure how youre gonna flatten and polish the epoxy with a router though
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: Bruno__, bin wieder da
11:55 AM roycroft: i spent some time trying to track it down before i asked here, but did not know the magic incantation to get the search results i needed
11:55 AM gloops: how well does epoxy machine?
11:56 AM fragalot: if it's cured well, not too bad
11:56 AM gloops: with a tungsten tipped cutter? thats ok then, can polish it with hand sander
11:57 AM gloops: once you have it flattened, i suppose it will level itself to some extend but theres gonna be lifting and so on round the mold sides
11:58 AM gloops: maybe want to put a bevel round the edge
11:58 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: I found that link by looking for images with autocad and X
11:59 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: "I found that when I am changing the location of a dimension by dragging, it leaves the X where the leader line was."
12:01 PM mtpocketscnc1: finally! I started compiling freecad yesterday at noon and it just got done. Man that one took forever
12:01 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: looks like a similar problem has driven users crazy in the past
12:02 PM roycroft: yes, capthindsight
12:02 PM roycroft: i think the problem is gone now
12:02 PM CaptHindsight: another day of rain and snow here
12:02 PM roycroft: i don't get why the old markers don't go away when i uncheck the marker box
12:02 PM gloops: i dont think i ever compiled freecad i just installed from synaptic
12:02 PM roycroft: but i can live with it, as i said
12:03 PM roycroft: worst case, i can copy and paste entire drawings to new ones
12:03 PM roycroft: the markers do not travel with the rest of the drawing
12:04 PM roycroft: i need to load one of my templates now and see if the setting is saved in the template or not
12:05 PM Beachbumpete1: yeah I just Dl'd freecad and installed... Have not used it in some time now tho.
12:05 PM roycroft: it is NOT saved in the template
12:05 PM roycroft: so somehow i managed to toggle it on on both of my computers
12:05 PM roycroft: very weird
12:06 PM roycroft: aah
12:06 PM roycroft: but here's the really good news
12:06 PM mtpocketscnc1: I run arch on this comp and for some reason it wasn't in the repos yesterday
12:06 PM roycroft: having toggled the option off, if i save a drawing and close it, then reopen, the makers do not come back
12:06 PM roycroft: outstanding!
12:07 PM roycroft: the other interesting thing about them is that, although i could find no way to remove them from an open drawing, as they were not selectable, if i did a zoom all the zoom function knew about them
12:07 PM roycroft: i had so many in the drawing i was working on that i just moved everything over away from the markers so i could see what i was doing
12:08 PM roycroft: and zoom all gave me a huge window with all the old markers
12:08 PM roycroft: but the problem is gone now :)
12:10 PM roycroft: i cannot begin to express how annoying that was
12:13 PM Beachbumpete1: its always nice when you find out the solution to an ANNOYING problem
12:14 PM Beachbumpete1: like how do I tell pandora that I do not speak spanish and why the hell are they playing spanish commercials on my stations GGGGrrrrrrrrrrr
12:14 PM gloops: well, no call from archivists old place, im afraid we must prepare for the worst
12:15 PM Beachbumpete1: damn that sucks. I only chatted with him a few times but he seemed a wealth of knowledge
12:15 PM gloops: ebay items did not belong to archivist
12:19 PM Tecan: "Aluminum interferes with the digestion of calcium, phosphorus, and fluoride, and can even result in osteoporosis. It damages the liver, and impairs the kidneys. It is linked to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons. It leads to colic, sleep disturbance, anemia, and speech problems."
12:21 PM Tecan: when the foil is warm it leeches into food
12:21 PM Tecan: https://traditionalcookingschool.com/food-preparation/kitchen-tools/rethinking-aluminum-foil/
12:22 PM gloops: cast iron for the best pans
12:22 PM Tecan: the ole baked potato
12:22 PM gregcnc: You'd think those welding and polishing aluminum would have serious problems
12:26 PM Beachbumpete1: I'm Screwed
12:26 PM gregcnc: not surprising she gets paid for the ad she wrote through affiliate program
12:26 PM mtpocketscnc: not so happy anymore lol. freecad won't launch and after some googling looks like some patch needs to be applied. Looks like I have to recompile to do so :( Was hoping to get some work done today
12:26 PM Beachbumpete1: can't you just download the latest stable?
12:28 PM mtpocketscnc: Tried that yesterday on an ubuntu system. same failure. That's why I compiled on arch. Wonder if that problem is why I can't find in arch repositories
12:29 PM mtpocketscnc: used to be there last time I checked
12:31 PM mtpocketscnc: tried both ppa yesterday and the standalone with same prob. I'm going to setup a debian install on gnome-boxes and see if I can just get from repo
12:36 PM Roguish_ is now known as Roguish
12:42 PM mtpocketscnc: yeah just gave freecad appimage a shot on this archlinux system while I'm waiting for debian to download. Same deal.
12:49 PM Beachbumpete1: https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Download
12:49 PM Beachbumpete1: Thats where I got my copy I believe
12:50 PM Tom_L: Beachbumpete1 you playin with freecad now?
12:52 PM mtpocketscnc: yeah that's were I went. Are you on the new stable? 0.17. So far doesn't work for me on arch or ubuntu. Maybe I'm missing something.
12:54 PM Tom_L: mtpocketscnc, did you sudo apt-get install freecad?
12:54 PM Tom_L: or the apple image
12:54 PM Tom_L: err Appimage
12:55 PM mtpocketscnc: did ppa and appimage figured repos wouldn't have new version yet. Waiting for debian to install on gnome-boxes now to just try standard repo version
01:10 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:11 PM Beachbumpete1: Tom_L awhile back I did.. now onto fusion
01:12 PM Beachbumpete1: fusion honestly changes things in the whole CAD CAM arena I think
01:13 PM gloops: my problem with fusion, on principle - they can pull the rug any time, take time to learn it - boom its gone, or its $500 a year etc
01:18 PM Beachbumpete1: AGREED
01:19 PM Beachbumpete1: that is my fear as well
01:19 PM Beachbumpete1: and apparenlty Autodesk is sort of famous for that
01:19 PM Beachbumpete1: its actually $300 a year right now for a first level pro license
01:20 PM Beachbumpete1: we bought a few seats here so we can use it for the HAAS and CNC router setups
01:20 PM Beachbumpete1: we will see how that goes
01:20 PM Beachbumpete1: trying to get post processor help right now
01:45 PM fragalot_ is now known as fragalot
01:52 PM gregcnc: Alibre did that
01:57 PM gloops: well at least if you can download the program you still have it to use, even if they change it or start charging etc
01:58 PM gregcnc: those days are gone
01:58 PM gloops: boycott them
01:59 PM gregcnc: if you don't need them sure
02:01 PM gloops: freecad is getting close
02:01 PM gloops: fight the corps
02:01 PM XXCoder: freecad needs cam
02:02 PM XXCoder: its starting to have one but its slow progress
02:02 PM gloops: get the blender cam devs on it
02:02 PM gregcnc: I assume you have a DIY car?
02:03 PM gloops: whats a car got to do with it gregcnc?
02:04 PM gregcnc: cars are made by big cars corps and the way you go on about things i just assumed
02:04 PM gloops: i will look at using blender more precisely, at a later date, it can be used for engineering drawings some are making the effort to do tutorials
02:05 PM gloops: oh right, we have to accept that some things are currently beyond the small scale manufacturer
02:06 PM gloops: cars could be made on a co-op basis
02:06 PM gregcnc: lolz
02:07 PM gregcnc: with parts from alibaba
02:07 PM gloops: thats where your cnc parts came from
02:08 PM gregcnc: not mine
02:08 PM gloops: there are many components individuals or small groups could make
02:08 PM gregcnc: how is that different now?
02:09 PM gloops: well with the advent of electric cars, it gets easier
02:09 PM gregcnc: imagine when DIY car forked to grannyCar, teenybopperCar, etc
02:09 PM gloops: can you build a mobility scooter - probably yes
02:10 PM gregcnc: and everyone solves all the problem they didn't know existed in every rev
02:10 PM gloops: if you can build a mobility scooter, can you build a car? - not beyond reasonable consideration
02:11 PM gregcnc: it's possible yet a handful of people worldwide do, and most that could work for the big corps
02:11 PM gloops: chassis - easy , been done
02:12 PM gloops: 4 motors and a controller - yes
02:12 PM gloops: bearings, shafts, suspension - not that difficult
02:12 PM Beachbumpete1: I think that at some point this will be a reality honestly. Once the batteries/supercapacitors reach a level of maturity and size/price/longevity everything will change
02:12 PM gloops: bodywork - easy
02:13 PM gregcnc: crash testing, endurance testing, reliability testing, pretty soon it's like your a big corp isnt' testla going through this now?
02:13 PM gloops: there wont be any crashes
02:14 PM gloops: because you wont be steering
02:14 PM gregcnc: you wish you were will be when you software crashes
02:15 PM gloops: that may be a problem when there is a mix of human and machine drivers
02:15 PM gregcnc: our open source software has a submit to avoid (random road hazard) we'll get it in the next rev though
02:15 PM gloops: but when all cars are machine driven, no problems, theyll all be on gps - you stop, the one behind you stops
02:17 PM gloops: imagine if you were in constant communication will all the drivers in the vicinity, it would be so much safer
02:17 PM gloops: cars will communicate with one another like that
02:17 PM gregcnc: but on open source?
02:18 PM gloops: i dont see what not if the software passes the test
02:18 PM gloops: why not
02:24 PM gloops: there are all kinds plugging mapping devices into cars atm, chipping them changing codes etc, nobody ever checks that
02:34 PM Tecan: i was surprised there are no learning all metal universal remote control's
02:36 PM Tecan: might be an opportunity for someone that can press shells and buttons out
02:37 PM rmu: i would not want to drive a car with some home-cooked suspension system, at least not faster than with my mountainbike
02:40 PM rmu: suspension, braking, steering are neither obvious nor trivial
02:41 PM gloops: its only a couple of gass shockers
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: we used to do it all the time, also rusty cars you could look through
02:42 PM rmu: hehe, yes you can take a design somebody else did
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: did you get hail, was pea sized?
02:43 PM rmu: as i understand you were talking about designing and manufacturing all those components yourself
02:43 PM gregcnc: yes
02:44 PM gregcnc: crappy weather but it looks normal after tonight
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: why would self driving car co's take on the liability?
02:45 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: hope so
02:45 PM gloops: rmu no not everything, as much as is possible
02:46 PM gloops: making a rolling chassis with some off the shelf components isnt hard
02:46 PM gloops: you arent going to make bearings and such
02:47 PM CaptHindsight: I bet someone in the commune will want to make the bearings
02:48 PM gloops: you could, if you bought the balls
02:48 PM gregcnc: so at what point do you say, this part isn't worth making, let's leave it up to the big corps?
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: this point :)
02:48 PM gloops: in a stroke the great might of the auto corps is reduced to that of mere steel ball makers
02:48 PM gregcnc: the balls, the bearing assembly, the car
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: can we fantasy invent some other tech, self driving cars are boring
02:49 PM gregcnc: shit I'm going to start mining ore now, so that my kids can build their own car
02:49 PM CaptHindsight: home woven flying carpets maybe
02:49 PM gloops: we dont need to drift into the realms of fantasy to envisage a viable new way of doing things
02:49 PM gregcnc: https://goo.gl/ye89o8
02:50 PM gloops: but there are several factors looming which ARE going to change things for good
02:50 PM gloops: robots for one thing
02:50 PM CaptHindsight: obviously with his Chinese Military grant
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: how do I get funded to make vehicles out of wood?
02:51 PM gregcnc: just market it as EcoCar
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: those missiles look almost real
02:51 PM gregcnc: carbon neutralCar
02:51 PM gloops: yes green tech
02:52 PM gregcnc: even tesla
02:52 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: grow your own wood if you want label it as really neutralcar
02:52 PM gloops: pallet car, returns to enrich the soil after use
02:52 PM gregcnc: pfft buy wood credits
02:52 PM gregcnc: have china build it
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: wood car credits and just stay home
02:53 PM gloops: you might snigger, spitfires were made from wood
02:53 PM gloops: 500 mph loop the loop
02:53 PM CaptHindsight: I have to shut this skit down for being too silly
02:53 PM gregcnc: soon there will be webs cams world wide you won't have to leave
02:53 PM XXCoder: balsa wood car
02:53 PM gloops: thats another factor gregcnc, you wont need to move
02:54 PM gregcnc: http://www.sunnev.com/
02:54 PM gloops: in fact you wont need to open your eyes to be there
02:54 PM gregcnc: perfect we cal all die now
02:55 PM gloops: the underlying perspective in all these debates is - normality
02:55 PM XXCoder: prices http://www.sunnev.com/subassemblies.htm
02:55 PM gloops: forget normality, what was normal isnt going to be normal any more
02:55 PM gregcnc: there is no normal
02:55 PM gregcnc: there never was
02:56 PM gloops: well you think a wood car isnt normal
02:56 PM gloops: it can be, soon anything can be normal
02:57 PM XXCoder: everyone forgot about old woody
02:57 PM CaptHindsight: gregcnc: I wonder why that car didn't take over?
02:58 PM fragalot: go back to trabants.
02:58 PM gloops: yes XXCoder, there was the ford woody
02:58 PM rmu: you don't want to have a crash in a wood car with >10m/s
02:58 PM fragalot: make the body out of recycled T-shirts & resin
02:58 PM gregcnc: but then you can't recycle it
02:58 PM mtpocketscnc: thinking outside the box is good in my opinion. "normal" is a fabrication of the current society if that makes sense.
02:58 PM XXCoder: gloops: I actually saw one at some event. amazing. its hard to find nowdays
02:58 PM gloops: most buses had wooden frame, some still do - coach building
02:59 PM gregcnc: at least when you crash wodenCar you can sell it as toothpicks
02:59 PM XXCoder: therers plenty fakes but the real thing is pretty rare
02:59 PM mtpocketscnc: what I think is normal and what my kids think are normal are two completely different things
02:59 PM gloops: cars had wood brake blocks
02:59 PM mtpocketscnc: kids normal will be the norm in the future
02:59 PM fragalot: gregcnc: you can recycle trabants.. pigs eat 'm
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: mtpocketscnc: so clothing will cover the floors of the world? :)
03:00 PM fragalot: and i'm fairly sure i read somewhere that they've found an enzyme that dissolves them in a matter of wdays
03:00 PM fragalot: :P
03:00 PM XXCoder: scientists acciently found germs that eat plastic
03:00 PM mtpocketscnc: yep lol
03:00 PM XXCoder: then acciently made em better on eating plastic
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner
03:01 PM XXCoder: or maybe soylent CaptHindsight I certainly drink soylent for breakfast and lunch every work day
03:01 PM gloops: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/apr/16/scientists-accidentally-create-mutant-enzyme-that-eats-plastic-bottles
03:01 PM mtpocketscnc: you got that problem too huh
03:01 PM gloops: hopefully this new enzyme doesnt become to plastic structures what woodworm did to houses
03:02 PM XXCoder: great for processing plastic that cant be recycled
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: weaponize it
03:03 PM gloops: Shell will probably develop a bacteria that eats the enzyme
03:04 PM gregcnc: why bother when they could disappear the guy who invented it, like so many others
03:04 PM mtpocketscnc: wouldn't doubt that. they'll do all they can to keep sucking the money out of everyone
03:05 PM mtpocketscnc: when cars drive themselves they'll be able to do that easier. (maker of blah dies in car crash from software glitch)
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: old t-shirts and resin, hhmmm.... just t-shirts or any article of old clothing?
03:06 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: i'm fairly certain they used any old guff that they found available when they made mine
03:06 PM gloops: theyre looking at making this stuff 10000 times faster
03:06 PM gregcnc: tshirts might be more effective than thongs
03:07 PM gloops: this would be the equivalent of molecular acid, as seen on Alien II
03:09 PM rmu: molecular acid????
03:09 PM XXCoder: fancy https://interestingengineering.com/these-standing-up-airplane-seats-are-designed-to-make-flying-cheaper
03:09 PM gloops: yes, one drop will eat right through 13 titanium decks
03:09 PM gregcnc: that's 10 year old "news" isn't it
03:10 PM fragalot: XXCoder: ryanair asked to use something similar but was denied
03:10 PM XXCoder: I got a idea
03:10 PM XXCoder: tiny beds
03:10 PM fragalot: not bedzs
03:10 PM XXCoder: like that japanese tiny homes
03:10 PM fragalot: pods
03:10 PM fragalot: that bloody Z!
03:10 PM fragalot: edzs
03:10 PM fragalot: >.<
03:10 PM rmu: gloops: so "regular" acid is "non-molecular"?
03:11 PM gloops: well all acid is molecules yes
03:11 PM XXCoder: fragalot: Z huh
03:12 PM fragalot: XXCoder: if I type e d s in rapid succession on this keyboard, it always puts a Z in front of the s
03:12 PM fragalot: if I hold down E and D, then push S, I get ZS
03:12 PM fragalot: I think it's a multiplexing issue
03:12 PM XXCoder: lol
03:12 PM XXCoder: hold on lemme find what im talking about
03:12 PM rmu: i like my acids with Cr(II) in it
03:13 PM fragalot: I thinkt he main issue that I type so quickly that the previous 2 key haven't fully released yet by the time i've hit the third
03:13 PM fragalot: or poorly, depending on how you look at it
03:13 PM XXCoder: https://gizmodo.com/5438791/read-about-capsule-living-and-feel-better-about-your-dinky-apartment
03:14 PM fragalot: yeah. pods :)
03:14 PM XXCoder: https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--EviLdD0k--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_6360/18mncfvn956qljpg.jpg
03:15 PM XXCoder: just lessen gap between (dont need soundproofing on plane)
03:15 PM XXCoder: and you got nice and confortable but compact
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: are there any Mesa FPGA cards with a DB25 and a 50 pin header? (not 26 pin header)
03:17 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: ^^^
03:17 PM XXCoder: fragalot: 5th element https://i0.wp.com/scifiinterfaces.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/thefifthelement-sleepregulator-006.png
03:21 PM XXCoder: only one slight problem with this idea
03:22 PM XXCoder: bedbugs
03:23 PM fragalot: weight?
03:23 PM fragalot: lol
03:24 PM gloops: phipli - do you live near archivist? hes not been on irc for months, we're trying to find out if anyone knows why
03:26 PM gloops: also, my sultan bantam hatched 2 eggs, got a black chick with an afro lol
03:27 PM gloops: the crest didnt work on the white chick, dunno why, or maybe it will come later
03:29 PM Deejay: gn8
03:32 PM XXCoder: gloops: I do hope that we find someone who could visit
03:33 PM gloops: i wouldnt try visiting anyone, i rang his old works which is more than im comfortable doing, if he is ok and just left without saying, im sure he has his reasons
03:35 PM XXCoder: yeah. though it can happen to anyone
03:36 PM XXCoder: I remember one of biggest sellers in bricklink suddenly stopped processing orders and store was evenually closed on nonresponding
03:36 PM XXCoder: we found out why a year later, owner was xcrossing street when he got hit
03:38 PM gloops: well, we might find out some day
03:38 PM XXCoder: maybe. theres few mystery ones also
03:39 PM XXCoder: one store was closed in 2012 close message was "just moving, back in 2 weeks"
03:39 PM XXCoder: it was 6 years laterwhen I saw that
03:39 PM XXCoder: *4
03:39 PM gloops: wow, just goes to show
03:39 PM XXCoder: they may be fine, just done with selling but dunno
03:41 PM gloops: his ex boss said he would see someone who sees archivist regularly today, then get back to me, but he didnt call today, maybe he just didnt see the other person
03:42 PM Rab: Maybe he was eaten by the same grue.
03:42 PM roycroft: maybe he got tired of all the politcal banter here and is off enjoying his life
03:43 PM gloops: who knows
03:43 PM XXCoder: it's mafia, they kill everyone that tries to contact archivist in our name lol
03:44 PM gloops: roycroft he is gone from all other channels as well, unless hes here under different nick
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: roycroft: he hasn't been in the other channels he would frequent that avoid political discussion and debate
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.derby.gov.uk/business/advertising-opportunities/outdoor-advertising/
03:46 PM cradek: gloops: thanks for calling
03:48 PM gloops: cradek seemed easier for me to do being not so far away, im not really into checking out someones personal details and enquiring about them though
03:50 PM cradek: I sympathize
03:51 PM cradek: I've been in your spot about an old friend who stopped talking to anyone. I was able to learn he was alive and "ok" but that's all I ever got. It's hard.
03:53 PM gloops: well, i havent been here that long, truth be known he probably didnt like me much, but he helped me a lot, also an interesting person in general, could comment on wide range of subjects
03:53 PM XXCoder: indeed
04:01 PM roycroft: don't think i'm uncaring - i just think it's more likely that archivist is busy or on irc hiatus than that something happened to him
04:02 PM roycroft: i'd be more concerned if he hung out at a particular pub every day and suddenly stopped going
04:02 PM roycroft: but this is irc
04:02 PM XXCoder: yeah
04:06 PM gloops: yes most likely, most regulars on here addicts though, and he seemed to have been long term, thousands of photos and documents, people who find better things to do usually drift away over time, they dont just quit one day, but anyway until someone hears something, pointless speculating
04:06 PM gloops: are addicts
04:07 PM CaptHindsight: was a Delorean with a driver named Marty seen in his area?
04:09 PM gloops: only a Maple one
04:09 PM Rab: gloops, I'm glad you recognize that IRC is Serious Business.
04:10 PM gloops: Rab i am adjunct professor of psychology, i fully understand the seriousness of irc
04:12 PM CaptHindsight: why did I confuse Anything IO with being just the 50 pin header cards?
04:13 PM CaptHindsight: the Mesa Anything IO is 50 pin header, 26 pin header or DB25, correct?
04:13 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_mesa: ^^
04:17 PM CaptHindsight: HD-DB ADAPTER is an adapter that allows the use of 25 pin daughter HD-DB cards with 50 pin FPGA cards.
04:28 PM DocHopper: Hey Linux cnc. I'm working on a part feeder that looks like this. https://imgur.com/a/vnrdl
04:29 PM DocHopper: It's feeding parts about the size of a smarties size candy (Or a hearing aid battery).
04:29 PM DocHopper: The current design will get jammed, and in testing it does. How would you all go about preventing the jam from happening?
04:29 PM gloops: excellent
04:30 PM gloops: ahh, good question DocHopper
04:30 PM gloops: this reminds me of one of those penny pushing things at the seaside
04:31 PM DocHopper: It would, but it is vertical. I would like it to be gravity fed.
04:33 PM gloops: yes, im just pondering the factors involved
04:33 PM gloops: obviously the weight of the parts
04:33 PM DocHopper: I wont taint the brainstorm with any of my ideas, just yet.
04:33 PM gloops: the shape of the parts?
04:34 PM DocHopper: gloops: They're not dense/heavy, they are shaped and size like a smarties candy, meaning, a 9x3.5mm puck.
04:35 PM gloops: i think the outlet size is important
04:35 PM gloops: the angle of the slopes
04:35 PM pcw_mesa: CaptHindsight: yeah there are 50 pin and 25(6) pins Anything I/O cards 25 pin ones are parallel port compatible pinout wise
04:35 PM gloops: i would make some kind of adjustable prototype with mdf or something, and experiment
04:35 PM DocHopper: gloops: Yes, but in testing, I see a jam regardless of the slope angle.
04:36 PM DocHopper: gloops: I've got my printed one right here.
04:37 PM gloops: how about offsetting the slopes, so one is longer
04:38 PM DocHopper: gloops: I've not tested it yet, but asymmetric might work well, that's the first suggestion in #engineering.
04:38 PM gloops: i mean you have 2 rows of parts meeting at the outlet at the same angle, same force, i dunno maybe thats causing them to bind
04:38 PM gloops: one part has no advantage over the other
04:38 PM DocHopper: gloops: That's exactly the bind, but it can go up higher and be caused by 3 or 4 across.
04:39 PM gloops: throw in some diversions, short sections at an angle higher up
04:39 PM DocHopper: gloops: The jam is always low.
04:41 PM gloops: you notice with these coin machines, you never get a vertical wall of coins, theyre always channeled down random routes to the bottom - so they never meet the outlet at the same time or speed
04:41 PM DocHopper: gloops: Have a picture to illustrate your example?
04:42 PM gloops: no, unless theres something on google
04:42 PM DocHopper: gloops: I was hoping you could grab a lonk for me, as I don't know what to search..
04:43 PM DocHopper: link* heh
04:45 PM gloops: could google Penny Falls
04:45 PM gloops: lol
04:46 PM DocHopper: gloops: That's the inverse of what I need though, right?
04:47 PM gloops: i had this problem with something years and years ago, i cant remember what we did now, i think youll get it by experimenting with the angles and chopping the mass of parts into smaller runs on the way down
04:47 PM gloops: or find someone who knows
04:52 PM phipli: gloops
04:52 PM phipli: I'm probably closest
04:52 PM gloops: yes?
04:52 PM phipli: he isn't far away
04:52 PM phipli: I've only seen him at the steam engine though
04:52 PM phipli: have you tried emailing him?
04:53 PM gloops: not got his email address
04:53 PM phipli: whois?
04:53 PM gloops: i dont know how to do it lol
04:54 PM gloops: it would be better if someone else did it, he might get the wrong idea if it was me
04:58 PM phipli: was he a dave?
04:58 PM gloops: yeah, David Caroline
04:59 PM gloops: thats already been posted
05:02 PM phipli: right
05:02 PM phipli: got his email address and phonenumber
05:02 PM phipli: (and this is why the EU want to get rid of whois)
05:02 PM phipli: I'll try contacting him tomorrow
05:02 PM phipli: worryingly his website is offline
05:03 PM phipli: when was he last online? I've been quiet on here lately
05:03 PM gloops: ok thanks, i tried phoning but number wasnt recognised, phoned the lock shop but they dint get back to me, i dont want to look like im stalking him lol
05:03 PM gloops: clock
05:04 PM gloops: been 2 months i think
05:04 PM phipli: previous place I had had a great feature called "seen"
05:04 PM phipli: that gave the date and time someone last spoke
05:04 PM phipli: *I hung out
05:05 PM gloops: yeah dont think theres a bot here with that feature
05:05 PM CaptHindsight: Forest of Needwood
05:06 PM gloops: i had logging set up on Mirc but in using Hexchat now, havent got logging on
05:07 PM phipli: I've not set anything up yet
05:07 PM phipli: keep meaning to
05:07 PM phipli: got a SBC running linux in the shed running a VPN and keeping an eye on the pigeon
05:07 PM phipli: but not installed anything IRC on it
05:07 PM gloops: the pigeon?
05:08 PM JT-Shop: hey phipli
05:09 PM JT-Shop: yea the only bot that did that was archivist's bot
05:10 PM phipli: gloops, rescue pigeon lives in our shed - can't fly and sometimes gets itself stuck upside down
05:10 PM phipli: JT-Shop, evening JT-Shop
05:10 PM CaptHindsight: speaking of whatever happened to...
05:11 PM CaptHindsight: laser fire, Atlanta area, pilot, moved to Silicon Valley?
05:12 PM JT-Shop: I've figured out that things like thunder storms and snow will cause some chickens to stop laying eggs for a few days
05:13 PM CaptHindsight: stress
05:13 PM gloops: shock
05:13 PM phipli: Spite
05:26 PM miss0r: lol @ phipli
05:35 PM phipli: alright folks
05:35 PM phipli: I'm off for the night
05:35 PM phipli: will speak tomorrow
05:38 PM gloops: hottest april 19 EVER tommorrow
05:38 PM gloops: night phipli
05:53 PM miss0r: seen archivist
05:53 PM miss0r: how does that work with the log again ?
05:54 PM CaptHindsight: wasn't it archivists log and bot?
05:54 PM miss0r: probally. I just had a thought: I havne't seen him a while...?
05:55 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: many have noticed and asked, some locals are trying to contact him without intruding
05:56 PM miss0r: Alright. Hope hes alright
05:59 PM gloops: stupid postman took my drivers back to the depot, told them where to hide parcels, i reckon it must have been a newb
06:00 PM gloops: try to build a cnc machine takes murphys law to new extremes
