12:16 AM ves: I almost don't want to register Xilinx until I can devote a month to it
12:19 AM ves: my HB04 pendant is working pretty good, the wired one.. the wireless is still DOA
12:20 AM CaptHindsight: don't waste your month
12:43 AM fragalot: hi
12:46 AM fragalot: is it me, or is freenode really unreliable lately?
12:47 AM renz: i mean
12:47 AM renz: its not you, and its been unreliable for 15 years?
12:48 AM CaptHindsight: netsplit season?
12:48 AM renz: my reference is efnet so freenode is sewn up pretty tight
12:48 AM fragalot: I had to try 7 different freenode servers before I could reconnect just now
12:48 AM renz: this net like being locked in a trunk by comparison
12:49 AM renz: arent you supposed to connect to the main thing and itll bump you to a free server?
12:49 AM fragalot: yes
12:49 AM fragalot: I did that, and it needed 7 tries
12:49 AM renz: thats broken? that sucks
12:50 AM renz: is users up or something?
12:50 AM fragalot: all I got was a connection reset by peer message
12:51 AM renz: http://irc.netsplit.de/networks/statistics.php?net=freenode
12:52 AM renz: looks like users topped out four years ago
12:52 AM fragalot: it's all about discord now :P
12:52 AM renz: yeah i was gonna say
12:53 AM renz: when did slack and discord happen
12:53 AM fragalot: if I had ot guess
12:53 AM fragalot: 4 years ago
12:53 AM fragalot: :P
12:53 AM renz: whenever anyone is like DISCORD IS IRC 2020 im like, dude its AOL chats
12:53 AM fragalot: discord, initial release 2015
12:53 AM renz: pretty slack lead it by a year or three
12:54 AM renz: makes sense
12:54 AM renz: mobile apps have prob dropped open source downloads across the board
12:54 AM renz: prob part of it
12:55 AM renz: *pretty sure
12:58 AM IchGucksLive: morning
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: since chatzilla outdated itrs a mes on irc
01:03 AM fragalot: I've been using irssi for near to 18 years
01:03 AM fragalot: is anyone here a secret expert on bees?
01:03 AM gloops: what do you want to know about bees?
01:04 AM fragalot: well, the rafters of my shed are attached via pocket holes, (an 8mm wide, 12mm deep hole)
01:04 AM fragalot: and I believe eacha nd every single one is now a tiny bee nest
01:04 AM fragalot: whilst I don't mind, I am wondering if this is going to cause long term damage or not
01:05 AM gloops: bees probably wont cause any damage to the timbers
01:06 AM gloops: wasps might
01:06 AM fragalot: That's alright then :-)
01:06 AM fragalot: they're being nice and are capping off the holes for me :P
01:06 AM pink_vampire|3: hi
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: im off Bye till later
01:06 AM miss0r: morning' fragalot
01:06 AM gloops: guessing they are bumble bees
01:06 AM fragalot: heya
01:07 AM fragalot: gloops: small bumblebees, yes
01:07 AM pink_vampire|3: i just lost 3mm ball bearing
01:07 AM miss0r: I would loke to announce that alot of your cast iron is already sticking to my mill in odd places ;)
01:07 AM fragalot: miss0r: I demand pictures!
01:07 AM pink_vampire|3 is now known as pink_vampire
01:08 AM miss0r: so bossy :D
01:08 AM pink_vampire: any idea how to convert 3.175mm to 3mm
01:08 AM fragalot: pink_vampire: you subtract .175mm
01:08 AM pink_vampire: how
01:08 AM fragalot: basic maths?
01:09 AM miss0r: fragalot: https://imgur.com/a/sDZBX
01:09 AM fragalot: pink_vampire: if this is for the bearing.. you don't, just buy a bag of 3mm
01:09 AM fragalot: miss0r: never going to say goodbye? That's just rude.
01:10 AM miss0r: lol... i'm uploading a real one as we speak ;)
01:10 AM pink_vampire: or where to get 3mm ball in the us in a store
01:10 AM pink_vampire: it's just a stopper
01:11 AM pink_vampire: not very critical
01:11 AM miss0r: fragalot: Not that theres a lot to see you, I only did a few passes to surface it: https://imgur.com/a/dUZPZ
01:11 AM fragalot: pink_vampire: mcmaster?
01:11 AM fragalot: what a mess
01:11 AM fragalot: xD
01:11 AM miss0r: yep
01:11 AM pink_vampire: is that cast iron?
01:11 AM miss0r: yeah
01:12 AM pink_vampire: omg
01:12 AM miss0r: fragalot: I somehpw managed to forget how messy it was, in the instance I told you I would love to make that for you :D
01:13 AM miss0r: pink_vampire: yeah, its pretty messy
01:14 AM miss0r: table 'somewhat' covered, check - vacuum running, check - ventilation running, check - miss0r earing dust mask, check. And I still get those black buggers!
01:15 AM fragalot: miss0r: ^_^
01:15 AM miss0r: its realy bad, if I pick my nose while driving, and flick it out of the window into oncomming traffic, I might put a dent in a car
01:16 AM miss0r: better get the mill fired up. I would like to do most of the machining in one go here
01:18 AM fragalot: speaking of flicking boogers
01:18 AM fragalot: i'm off to work
01:18 AM fragalot: ttyl!
01:19 AM miss0r: ttyl
01:22 AM gloops: finally some decent weather coming, router trials continue over the weekend
01:23 AM roycroft: it's cool and rainy here
01:23 AM roycroft: i was considering building an ark today
01:24 AM gloops: its been constantly raining here for days and days, groundhog day
01:25 AM gloops: thats a good days work roycroft?
01:25 AM gloops: or 2 lol
01:25 AM roycroft: it depends on how many critters i decide to take along for the ride
01:25 AM gloops: oh sorry an ark..lol
01:25 AM gloops: i thought you meant an ark as in a chest
01:28 AM gloops: well, so far, the mechanics of router are good, machine is totally indifferent to cutting forces, no sign of backlash anywhere in the cutting, scale is fine
01:28 AM roycroft: the water table is just about up to the surface
01:29 AM roycroft: so if the rain keeps up like this i figure it's float or drown time
01:29 AM gloops: i need to check the computer, getting occasional rtai error, i cant remember now if i just threw the box together with 1 memory stick just to check it fired up
01:42 AM gloops: and during the course of building this one, ive collected nearly all the bits to make a cnc wood lathe, just one set of linear rails short, a little project for the summer methinks
01:42 AM SpeedEvil: :)
01:54 AM gloops: also pondering 2 4.5Nm motors i got for the X, these are mounted at the rear, opposite the drive end, which i thought was odd, but that would probably work very well for direct coupling to a screw, supported both ends instead of one
02:12 AM CaptHindsight: roycroft: https://s.w-x.co/wu/goes-wv-1500Z-4.7.18.jpg
02:12 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/what-gave-west-its-soggiest-winter-type-atmosphere-record
02:13 AM CaptHindsight: the Pineapple Express
02:15 AM miss0r: cast iron dust!.. cast iron dust everywhere !
02:16 AM CaptHindsight: minimum daily requirement of iron by breathing
02:17 AM miss0r: Nah.. that would be somewhat hazzardous, so I filtrate as much air as possible through a cigarette ;)
02:17 AM pink_vampire: lol
02:18 AM miss0r: I'm waiting for the cast iron to cool down before continueing machining...
02:19 AM pink_vampire: https://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/tls/d/bridgeport-vertical-milling/6543572408.html
02:20 AM miss0r: nice!
02:21 AM miss0r: the only downside is that the bridgeport lacks power on in the spindle
02:21 AM miss0r: lacks power in the spindle
02:21 AM pink_vampire: https://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/tls/d/kent-owens-mill-1-14/6553925740.html
02:22 AM miss0r: Are you looking for a new mill, pink_vampire?
02:22 AM pink_vampire: no.. but..
02:23 AM miss0r: In that case I have an old TOS standing around :) 15x60"
02:23 AM miss0r: it has alot more cast iron in it than those bridge ports. also it has a more powerfull spindle :D
02:23 AM miss0r: I wonder if I will get around to selling it
02:24 AM pink_vampire: i need to finish rebuild the lathe, and finish the servo spindle for the g0704 (with the lathe)
02:25 AM miss0r: projects where a mill would be nice ;)
02:25 AM miss0r: back to the mill...
02:25 AM pink_vampire: also.. i need to find a name for the lathe
02:36 AM miss0r: Alright. Now waiting for the slab to cool off, to recieve the finishing pass
02:37 AM miss0r: I don't like much anything about machining cast iron...
02:37 AM miss0r: I hope fragalot will be habby about this one, once it is done
02:37 AM pink_vampire: just add mist or oil
02:37 AM pink_vampire: it's a part for him?
02:38 AM miss0r: I 'could' but that would make cleaning up afterwards close to impossible
02:38 AM pink_vampire: use alcohol
02:38 AM miss0r: yeah, its the mill table for his new epoxy granite mill
02:38 AM miss0r: even with alcohol it managed to stick to stuff after it evaporates
02:38 AM miss0r: I think my best bet is running it dry
02:39 AM miss0r: i need to put in 80 holes after I've done squaring it up. Then sometime next week, I will bring it to a client of mine who will surface grind it on his HUGE surface grinder
02:40 AM miss0r: ( I have serious paying customers to take care of first ) i just had a little spare time yesterday, so I started on this project. Then I came to remember how much of a mess it makes, so I think I'll just complete it in one go, so I don't have to clean the cnc a million times
02:45 AM miss0r: pink_vampire: This cast iron plate is measuring ~300x450x32mm - should I decide to cool it with alcohol, I would use HUGE amounts & the fumes would be bad :D
02:47 AM pink_vampire: yeah
02:57 AM gloops: lost keys ffs, not just keys, important keys
03:02 AM syyl: always use dustextraction for machining/grinding cast :D
03:02 AM syyl: otherwise the shop looks like a coal mine
03:02 AM gloops: local garage machinist stopped doing brake discs for that reason
03:04 AM syyl: i do a lot of machining in continious cast ci
03:04 AM syyl: and if you dont suck it up
03:04 AM syyl: man :D
03:04 AM syyl: that grey layer that you dont see right away
03:04 AM syyl: on every horizontal surface
03:12 AM miss0r: syyl: Yeah, I have a vacuum nozzle right next to the facemill, it takes most. But I'm sure I will regret even starting on this project in the shop :)
03:13 AM syyl: :D
03:13 AM miss0r: Theres no nice way of putting this; it is just messy AF
03:14 AM miss0r: now I'm waiting for it to tool off again. I'm looking forward to using smaller endmills and drilling. Using a 70mm facemill has a tendency of throwing the dust a bit further
03:16 AM syyl: the worst is surfacegrinding it i found :D
03:16 AM syyl: or any grinding for that matter
03:20 AM miss0r: luckily for me, my surface grinder is too small for this workpiece, so I'll bring it to a client :D
03:21 AM miss0r: shhh... he is back
03:22 AM SpeedEvil: back again.
03:22 AM fragalot: am not
03:22 AM fragalot: !log
03:22 AM fragalot: :P
03:23 AM Loetmichel: *hihi* NOW i know whats beeping for week in the server room... just opened the UPS monitor soft on the server: "nominal battery voltage: 24V"... "current battery voltage: 11V" ... i think i should buy two new 12V 7Ah AGM blocks :-)
03:23 AM fragalot: >.> log server is down
03:23 AM miss0r: fragalot: I'm thinking of packing all the dust&chips from from this machining operation into a confetti tube, and mail it to you with the table. And some clever contraption to make it fire when you take it inside your shop :D
03:23 AM fragalot: or blocked
03:23 AM miss0r: mwuhahahaha
03:23 AM miss0r: blocked
03:23 AM fragalot: no way i'm paying for shipping then :P
03:24 AM miss0r: oh you will, trust me, you will :]
03:25 AM miss0r: I won't ship it with the table, I will send it to some local goons(you must have a few of thoes in Belgium) to breakin and spread it around during the night :D
03:25 AM miss0r: blah... This cast iron takes forever to tool down between operations
03:25 AM miss0r: cool*
03:26 AM fragalot: that's where a vortex cooler is kinda neat
03:26 AM fragalot: helps spread the mess too
03:26 AM miss0r: not just there.. a vortex cooler is always kinda neat :D
03:26 AM miss0r: Yeah, I'm struggeling here.
03:27 AM miss0r: I think I only need two additional passes to clean it up
03:27 AM miss0r: also, I've decided to send you a piece of cast iron un machined, so you can make that vertical mounting post yourself. All this dust is giving me cold feet ;)
03:28 AM miss0r: I am saving it, though. I've been told it does wonders for the roses. just springle it on the ground around them...
03:28 AM fragalot: True, it does
03:29 AM miss0r: So when the wife asks, I did it for the roses :D
03:29 AM miss0r: _all of it_
03:29 AM fragalot: xD
03:44 AM hazzy-dev1 is now known as hazzy-dev
03:56 AM Deejay: moin
03:59 AM miss0r: And just when I thought I was on top of the dust problem, my vacuum gave up the ghost !
04:00 AM fragalot: ._.
04:00 AM fragalot: brushes worn out?
04:02 AM miss0r: I'm not sure what is going on. If I unplug it for a sec, and then plug it back in, it fires back up, and keep on running for 30 seconds(ish) then shuts back off... I think I should give it a good cleaning too.
04:02 AM miss0r: normally the filter alert will tell me if it is clugged. I'll have a look
04:03 AM miss0r: Unless it cools off to become totally out'a shape, its plenty flat enough for a few passes on a surface grinder now.
04:04 AM * miss0r starts to work on the contour
04:07 AM miss0r: fragalot: So, how parallel do you want it? within a few milimeters?
04:09 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNnguYV2JA0 related
04:09 AM SpeedEvil: ULTRA PRECISION REPEAT O METER
04:11 AM miss0r: Also, theres some minor pittings in onde side (graphite pits) and the other side if alot prettier, except for two 'larger' graphite pits, measuring around one mm in diameter each. What side do you want as the surface?
04:13 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINEERS-GRANITE-SURFACE-TABLE-ENGINEERS-GRANITE-SURFACE-PLATE-4ft-X-3ft-WBJ/332587265895 - I am amused that ebay also lists the price per kilogram (1 pound a kilo)
04:17 AM fragalot: miss0r: on the bottom the only important areas are the ones around the bolt holes
04:18 AM fragalot: miss0r: the top however. .I'd need to see pictures of what you mean.
04:18 AM miss0r: Neither of the sides are prone to faliure due to the graphite pits, its just a cosmetic thing
04:19 AM fragalot: In that case I trust your best judgement :)
04:20 AM miss0r: ha !
04:22 AM miss0r: my 'best' judgement is not even that good :D The first picture if of side 'A'. the two latter pictures are of side 'B'. https://imgur.com/a/ZpLBE
04:22 AM miss0r: fragalot. ^
04:38 AM pink_vampire: i found the lost ball bearing
04:48 AM holzjunkie: hy at all
04:49 AM holzjunkie: is the 7i77 cmpatibel with 11µAss signals from the glassscales?
04:50 AM jthornton: no
04:50 AM holzjunkie: gnampf is it possible to cenvert this signal?
04:51 AM holzjunkie: and if what is the best lowcost way
04:57 AM jthornton: best and low cost usually don't go in the same sentence lol... no clue except the 7i77 is designed to take ABZ from and encoder
05:03 AM fragalot: miss0r: side B on top?
05:10 AM holzjunkie: yes you are right A rectangular b rectangular and z for reference right?
05:49 AM pjm: morning chaps. a quick question, having updated linuxcnc to the current version, i'm now seeing a HM2 cookie error on start up, I'm using 7i43 + parport. The machine runs as before but now I get this error, any simple pointer?
05:52 AM jthornton: the exact error might help, I've never heard of a cookie error
05:58 AM pjm: yeah me neither, its occuring on both my cnc's which use the 7i43, they both run fine tho
05:59 AM jthornton: I don't see the 7i43 in the linuxcnc supported boards section at mesa but I see it uses hostmot2
06:05 AM jthornton: and the lights come on and the chickens start their day
06:12 AM pjm: yep bog standard hm2
06:13 AM jthornton: did you check dmesg for more error messages?
06:16 AM jdh: I have a 7i43 but haven't updated anything in years
06:17 AM jthornton: posting the exact error message and wait for pcw_home to wake up and see it will be your best bet
06:18 AM pjm: ok thanks will do
06:19 AM pjm: yep the dmesg o/p is at https://pastebin.com/EQqGqd2h
06:19 AM pjm: the machine works fine despite errors
06:57 AM Tom_L: jthornton, it's an older board
06:58 AM Tom_L: i used it before i switched to the 7i90
06:59 AM Tom_L: it has to do with the config line not being in the ini i believe
06:59 AM Tom_L: instead of just the parameter list
06:59 AM jthornton: Tom_L: you getting this wind too?
07:00 AM Tom_L: all night
07:00 AM Tom_L: want some?
07:00 AM jthornton: wind blew real hard all day and night, a huge twin trunk white oak that never moves was swaying
07:01 AM Tom_L: supposed to turn cold again too
07:02 AM Tom_L: 71°F right now
07:02 AM jthornton: they say 40°F for lows here tomorrow night and sunday night
07:02 AM Tom_L: 31 here
07:03 AM Tom_L: k, i'm gone with the wind :)
07:03 AM jthornton: lol
07:08 AM jthornton: all right time to start my day... see you guys in the shop
07:10 AM Beachbumpete1: MORNING
07:15 AM Beachbumpete1: what do you guys usually use to go from PDF to DXF or DWG?
07:29 AM gregcnc_: cad and mouse
07:29 AM Beachbumpete1: tried that
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: also tried inkscape
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: it worked but the drawing is messed up
07:30 AM Beachbumpete1: import pdf and convert
07:37 AM gregcnc_: seems like the ACAD2017 has it built in
07:40 AM Beachbumpete1: dont have
07:40 AM Beachbumpete1: draftsight
07:40 AM Beachbumpete1: there is a plugin but it costs
07:42 AM pjm: Tom_L, ok interesting re the config line, will check that out - although the machine works perfectly, the error is just annoying
07:44 AM gregcnc_: customer drawings?
08:00 AM Beachbumpete1: internal
08:00 AM Beachbumpete1: the guy I work with uses viacad and I use draftsight and for some reason his files and text in particular to not play well with mine.
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: However I send the files from draftsight to folks all over the world and never had a problem
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: not sure what the problem could be
08:01 AM gregcnc_: and you've tried all the formats available?
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: viacad seems to be capable
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: well dxf and dwg
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: and pdf is all that seems to come thru properly
08:01 AM Beachbumpete1: but when I convert it in inkscape it screws that up too
08:02 AM gregcnc_: why isn't the company using one software?
08:05 AM Beachbumpete1: well honestly we are just really getting started in the whole CAD CAM thing since we are just not purchasing all this CNC equipment
08:05 AM Beachbumpete1: but they have been generating the drawings using this other guys viacad for a year or two now.
08:05 AM Beachbumpete1: We are PROBABLY going to switch to something more updated and cabinet related soon but we are still evaluating options there
08:06 AM Beachbumpete1: for the time being we are both doing CAD drawings and I will be generating the CAD drawings for the CNC stuff so I prefer to use what I am accustomed to
08:06 AM gregcnc_: going from a CAD file to PDF then back to CAD is not the way to go
08:06 AM Beachbumpete1: honestly they are both basically autocad clones this should not be an issue
08:06 AM Beachbumpete1: agreed
08:07 AM Beachbumpete1: I much prefer a dxf or dwg import but there are issues
08:07 AM gregcnc_: try the other formats and check export/import settings
08:16 AM JT-Shop: I had no clue you could import a pdf and convert it to a dxf
08:27 AM Beachbumpete1: APPARENTLY ;)
08:41 AM fragalot: \o/
08:44 AM miss0r: !
08:44 AM fragalot: pigsty, I mean, shed, has been cleared out so I can walk around again
08:44 AM fragalot: and my alu parts should arrive any minute
08:45 AM miss0r: nice
08:45 AM miss0r: have you brought you computer home with you?
08:45 AM fragalot: I would have if I were smarter
08:46 AM miss0r: alright. Your new table will measure: 272x376
08:46 AM miss0r: I'll just make a hole pattern I think make sense, and run i by you in a bit before I start the drilling
08:47 AM fragalot: that works
10:04 AM fragalot: miss0r: my mill is here!.. Some assembly required, but i've got all the tools laid out. https://imgur.com/a/Ypg25
10:08 AM Deejay: chisel for aluminum ;)
10:09 AM skunkworks: fragalot: what style are you making?
10:09 AM fragalot: skunkworks: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzOi3hLIA_dSNFRadUFRSHZyUWdoTFZlX1FTRkRpWlZuYWdj
10:14 AM skunkworks: fragalot: compsite?
10:14 AM fragalot: yes
10:21 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
10:22 AM IchGucksLive: Beachbumpete1, still on
10:23 AM * fragalot => afk :P
10:24 AM IchGucksLive: fragalot, today i milled light steel with my TZrapezional chees mill
10:24 AM IchGucksLive: im deep impressed
10:24 AM IchGucksLive: ok it is gone 0,1 by 0,1
10:24 AM IchGucksLive: but it did it
10:25 AM IchGucksLive: with a 30Euro bosh 5000 spindle and 16x4 TR
10:26 AM IchGucksLive: oh anothere thunderstorm is hedding here so im closing till later
10:45 AM holzjunkie: IchGucksLive: hy hattest du nicht gesagt du hast schon maho maschinen ungerüstet?
10:52 AM holzjunkie: have anyone of you experience with maho maschines or Phillips PE2580/30 scales ?
11:00 AM miss0r: fragalot: I love t´he tools :D
11:02 AM Joe_Hildreth: Hello All.
11:03 AM Joe_Hildreth: I have been playing around. I have compiled preempt_rt for Ubuntu 16.04, compiled LCNC and have been stress testing the computer.
11:04 AM Joe_Hildreth: The first test was running the latency test with (3) glxgears (3) glmark2 and several runs of hackbench
11:07 AM Joe_Hildreth: The jitter on the base thread was 41873. After running these for an hour or so, I though I would run the histogram. with (4) glxgears It has been running for nearly a half hour.
11:09 AM Joe_Hildreth: I am not sure how to interpret this. The X scale shows the jitter, correct? and I am seeing the following for min (-24.8) and max (43.7). What does the min mean in this context?
11:10 AM Joe_Hildreth: If the base thread is 25uS, that is the polling frequency, but how to you get negative jitter? Or am I not understanding the graph?
11:12 AM gregcnc_: the period can be shorter than expected
11:14 AM Joe_Hildreth: So does the min (us) mean the difference in polling period? In my case what does the value of -24.8 mean? Does that mean a poll happened .2 from another poll?
11:15 AM Joe_Hildreth: or a minimum poll was 24.8 uS?
11:31 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:32 AM Joe_Hildreth: Hello
11:33 AM IchGucksLive: hi Joe_Hildreth
11:33 AM IchGucksLive: im in germany
11:34 AM Joe_Hildreth: I am in Tennessee, USA
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, below 50k latency is ok for steppers
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, the mainframe config will add 100k
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: it gives yoiu about 22.000 steps per second
11:35 AM IchGucksLive: so it shoudt do the job
11:36 AM Joe_Hildreth: Thank you. I have the histogram running, but do not quite understand what I am looking at for the min (us) value.
11:36 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, on a real servo system it is comen not to use softwarestepping insted a FPGA card
11:36 AM Loetmichel: Joe_Hildreth: it means that if you have a base thread of 25us you had one poll 0,2 us after the other and one that was 43,7us "late" (as in -the 35us base)
11:37 AM Loetmichel: 25
11:37 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, my YT channel on CNC CAD https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
11:37 AM Loetmichel: -25us
11:37 AM Loetmichel: grrr
11:37 AM Loetmichel: +25us
11:37 AM Loetmichel: i meant
11:37 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, do you own a mashine
11:38 AM Joe_Hildreth: I have a CNC router that I have built. A KRMx01, http://myheap.com/cnc-stuff/krmx01-cnc-router/krmx01-build-log.html
11:38 AM IchGucksLive: gloops, ?
11:39 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, cool setup
11:39 AM IchGucksLive: as prices fall dramaticly
11:39 AM Joe_Hildreth: I will check out your channel. I have started a series on CNC for the home hobbyist and have been experimenting.
11:39 AM IchGucksLive: now we use more Square Rail for stability
11:39 AM Joe_Hildreth: My channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/myheap
11:40 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, i build for GOV education service
11:40 AM Joe_Hildreth: Cool. I am just a tinkerer.
11:41 AM IchGucksLive: small but they do it http://tv-profi-gmbh.de/masch_baumh_k.jpg
11:41 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, i checke 2hr ago on one if they can do steel
11:42 AM Joe_Hildreth: You have a production line going on there. All Aluminum construction?
11:43 AM IchGucksLive: no it is mixed depending on school budget
11:43 AM IchGucksLive: wood http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/holzcnc.jpg
11:43 AM Joe_Hildreth: Nice setup, linear bearing slides and screws. What are the pitch?
11:44 AM IchGucksLive: i use mainly Trapezional 16x4
11:44 AM IchGucksLive: the complete set is 20USD
11:44 AM IchGucksLive: hi ktc
11:44 AM Joe_Hildreth: Seems course. Do you use high microstep?
11:45 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, no microstepping at all
So I understand, the screw is 16mm Diameter and 4mm pitch?
11:45 AM IchGucksLive: yes
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: but in this days for a real mashine it is Ballscrew 5mm
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: Joe_Hildreth, that means pulley 20/25
11:48 AM Joe_Hildreth: Got to run, will be back after while. Thanks for the help IchGucksLive. :-)
11:48 AM IchGucksLive: NP
11:48 AM ktc: IchGucksLive: hi
11:49 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:49 AM IchGucksLive: ktc, im in germany
11:49 AM ktc: IchGucksLive: Iam in hk
11:49 AM IchGucksLive: ktc, if you need help just ask
11:49 AM ktc: I saw your Hi message
11:50 AM Beachbumpete1: HONG KONG?
11:50 AM ktc: yes
11:50 AM IchGucksLive: ktc, you shoudt send us a good fast shipment parts
11:50 AM Beachbumpete1: COOL
11:50 AM IchGucksLive: not 45days
11:50 AM IchGucksLive: within 10days
11:50 AM holzjunkie: IchGucksLive: ja ich weiß bei den phillips weiß nur keiner was für ein signal die rausgeben
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: holzjunkie, haste ne nummer
11:51 AM gregcnc_: pay for express shipping?
11:51 AM ktc: IchGucksLive: not in german
11:51 AM holzjunkie: PE2580/30 meßkopf
11:51 AM Beachbumpete1: hehe
11:51 AM sync: holzjunkie: there are adapters for those now
11:51 AM sync: a bit expensive tho
11:51 AM sync: but the readheads are just cameras
11:52 AM sync: there is a 20 line ccd in there
11:52 AM Loetmichel: hmmm
11:52 AM * Beachbumpete1 needs to figure out how to do an IRC translator setup
11:52 AM Loetmichel: what would you guys suggest these days for a linuxCNC pc inside a small machine?
11:52 AM holzjunkie: Beachbumpete1: if you got it let me know
11:53 AM Loetmichel: last time i pulled a stunt like that i crammed a P4 industrial pc inside...
11:53 AM holzjunkie: sync: ok have you an like for more details?
11:53 AM holzjunkie: IchGucksLive:
11:53 AM IchGucksLive: holzjunkie, die werden für 1k gehandelt
11:54 AM sync: no, you can google them tho
11:54 AM sync: I'd have to do the same
11:54 AM Loetmichel: ... i think something like a beaglebone or similar should be sufficient these days, isnt it=
11:54 AM Loetmichel: ?
11:54 AM sync: IchGucksLive: I got mine for like 25€
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: hi maker
11:54 AM sync: including a scale
11:54 AM Beachbumpete1: who the hell came up with that name LOL
11:56 AM Loetmichel: boys, get a room
11:56 AM IchGucksLive: die standard kosten komplett 350euro und machen 20um
11:56 AM Loetmichel: here is english the main language ;)
11:57 AM holzjunkie: sorry
11:57 AM holzjunkie: if i think fast it´s only in german and ichguckslive is so fast here and away......
11:59 AM ktc: any laser cutter user with linuxcnc?
11:59 AM IchGucksLive: ktc, some did modifie the CN
11:59 AM ktc: CN?
12:00 PM ktc: k40?
12:00 PM IchGucksLive: CN = China
12:01 PM ktc: some github project put spindle pwm to control a chinese k40 laser cutter
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: ktc, they take offen only there own APP language
12:01 PM ktc: does it work?
12:01 PM IchGucksLive: YES
12:02 PM IchGucksLive: the BOB does output also 0-10V
12:02 PM ktc: but they are using ubuntu 10.04 and linuxcnc 2.5
12:02 PM IchGucksLive: so you can do direct as the laser driver takes that in
12:02 PM IchGucksLive: ktc, 2.3.5 got is from there
12:03 PM IchGucksLive: ktc, you can use almost wvery new software
12:03 PM IchGucksLive: even reprap can do pwm
12:03 PM DocHopper_: Hey all, I'm working on a simple arduino project, and I need an optical switch. Not the slotted variety, but a separate LED ir emitter and receiver. What would everyone here use, and where would you get it?
12:04 PM IchGucksLive: CNY70
12:04 PM ktc: rs component
12:04 PM IchGucksLive: DocHopper_, what is the main to be mesurerd
12:05 PM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel, gabellichtschranke in eng
12:06 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: I'm sorry, the "main"?
12:06 PM IchGucksLive: the detection
12:06 PM IchGucksLive: a Hole
12:06 PM IchGucksLive: a Pin
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: what is the thickness of the rotator /actor
12:07 PM DocHopper_: it's monitoring material passing through a slot.
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: material meaning
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: steel plastic AL paper
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: carbon
12:08 PM IchGucksLive: DocHopper_, there are simple robot sensors
12:08 PM IchGucksLive: you can easy get for low cost
12:08 PM IchGucksLive: cny70 is most linefolower
12:09 PM IchGucksLive: the ultrasonic are distence
12:10 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: That's a neat solution. I was thinking of an opposing pair more than a single sided solution.
12:11 PM IchGucksLive: WHY
12:11 PM IchGucksLive: BH1750
12:11 PM IchGucksLive: lightsensor
12:11 PM IchGucksLive: there you can put a led on the other side
12:13 PM Loetmichel: IchGucksLive:no idea
12:14 PM IchGucksLive: DocHopper_, for Ultraviolet the ML8511
12:14 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: This is akin to what I'm looking for. https://www.adafruit.com/product/2168
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: DocHopper_, more industrial ones ?
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Sensor-Schalter-DC10V-24V-3A-AC-250V-E3JK-R4M1-Lichtschranke-Reflexlichtschranke/382414759527
12:17 PM ktc: https://hken.rs-online.com/web/c/automation-control-gear/sensors-transducers/sensor-mounting-fixing-accessories/?searchTerm=Break%20Beam%20Sensor
12:18 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: The CNY70 is awesome, but a bit large for my application.
12:19 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: Hah! I'm measuring something that is 4mm, so those might not work!
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: oh they run up to 100meter
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: you can adjust the cny
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: the studens do 0,5mm distance
12:21 PM DocHopper_: Wow, 1/2 a MM distance, that's tiny!
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: DocHopper_, what about a simple 3mm phototransistor
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: oh im called off
12:22 PM DocHopper_: IchGucksLive: That could be okay, but it might run in the dark?
12:22 PM DocHopper_: Might as well, just look at IR.
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: GN8 from germany
12:26 PM gloops: the death star is *probably* fully operational
12:32 PM DocHopper_: Man #arduino is pouty.....
12:33 PM DocHopper_: Well, IchGucksLive was a great help and I think I'll go with a reflective sensor in the style he suggested. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/246
12:45 PM fragalot: heyµ
12:45 PM gloops: evening
12:45 PM gloops: whats the sensor for DocHopper?
12:46 PM DocHopper_: gloops: Thanks for asking, they just started whining that I didn't give enough info in #arduino and stopped talking.
12:46 PM DocHopper_: gloops: It's for makking sure a material feeder is full.
12:46 PM DocHopper_: I've landed on this unit. https://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/BOT/QRD1114.pdf
12:47 PM DocHopper_: But I'm trying to guess what the minimum detection distance is.
12:47 PM gloops: im pretty impressed with the cheapo chino roller levers i got, they drop the gantry the right side of a pencil line every time lol
12:47 PM gloops: ahh
12:47 PM DocHopper_: To everyone in #linuxcnc, this is easily the best channel on IRC. I mean it, you guys are always fun and helpfun to chat with.
12:47 PM DocHopper_: helpful*
12:48 PM gloops: helpful to find some documentation on a component as well
12:48 PM JT-Shop: and helpfun too
12:48 PM DocHopper_: JT-Shop: You're the helpfunnest.
12:48 PM Loetmichel: DocHopper_: yes, i am pretty impressed, too
12:48 PM Loetmichel: the other ~20 channels i am in have a lot more trolls
12:49 PM DocHopper_: Loetmichel: Let's keep things awesome in this channel.
12:49 PM DocHopper_: Loetmichel: Ya, you can whois me to see all the other terrible channels I'm in.
12:49 PM Loetmichel: hihi
12:50 PM Loetmichel: i know. i am in these, too ;)
12:50 PM DocHopper_: Heh
12:53 PM Connor: Looking at getting a deburring set.. I'm looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/NOGA-SP7700-Complete-Deburring-Plastic/dp/B01N8UK7ZF or this one https://www.amazon.com/NOGA-NG9400-Gold-Box-Set/dp/B002K07D44
12:53 PM Connor: Thoughts?
12:54 PM DocHopper_: Connor: They seem overkill IMO. I would just use a standard deburring tool and files.
12:55 PM Connor: I have a cheap one.. and it sucks.
12:55 PM DocHopper_: Connor: I guess I'm just used to it now.
12:56 PM Beachbumpete1: https://www.amazon.com/SHAVIV-90094-Deburring-Handle-Pieces/dp/B003JY7MDW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1523642119&sr=8-5&keywords=shaviv+deburring+tool
01:02 PM Beachbumpete1: I've got two or three of these and they work pretty nice
01:02 PM Beachbumpete1: one has a long shaft and the other a short shaft and you can get different sized inserts for it
01:03 PM CaptHindsight: the plastic ones don't last
01:04 PM Rab: I have that same Shaviv dual handle tool (takes large and small bits), but I find it very frustrating because the locking collar doesn't do a good job of retaining the bits. Maybe the single-bit handles work better, or maybe I got a dud.
01:07 PM Connor: Wish I could handle them and look at them before buying.. I could get a idea if I like them or not. Ordering online sucks sometimes..
01:07 PM gloops: hmm wondering why i put 3 sticks of ram in the pc
01:18 PM Tom_L: so you wouldn't lose them
01:23 PM Beachbumpete1: never had any issues with my single blade model
01:24 PM Beachbumpete1: models
01:25 PM Beachbumpete1: I used to have a shars copy that sucked azz so I got these
01:26 PM gloops: i think this ram is supposed to be paired, can be worse with 3 sticks than 2
02:15 PM Deejay: gn8
03:08 PM fragalot: well, that's the first 4 components of the mill done.. :D
03:09 PM fragalot: loving how well the alu appears to machine
03:10 PM gloops: what parts is the ally for?
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: fragalot: which machine is this?
03:11 PM fragalot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzOi3hLIA_dSNFRadUFRSHZyUWdoTFZlX1FTRkRpWlZuYWdj
03:11 PM fragalot: all parts except EG & the table
03:11 PM fragalot: table will be a nice thick slab of cast iron
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: make it all from aluminium and use that stone speckle spray that looks like stone
03:12 PM fragalot: hammerite :P
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: what was that drawn with?
03:13 PM gloops: eta to cutting for this?
03:13 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: Inventor 2017
03:14 PM fragalot: gloops: aaaages away
03:17 PM gloops: just knocked a few more test paths up https://postimg.cc/image/6o0xadnmz/
03:20 PM gloops: if you do get stuck with this fragalot, dont forget, im here
03:31 PM fragalot: I think i've got a fairly good handle on things :-)
03:31 PM fragalot: the only thing i'm worried about is the EG part
03:31 PM fragalot: but I don't think it's something that can't be solved by throwing more epoxy at it
03:32 PM gloops: personally, i think youre being too fussy with the resin
03:32 PM gloops: dont vibrate, just vac and pour
03:33 PM fragalot: Have you ever done any large EG casting?
03:33 PM gloops: have you?
03:33 PM gloops: i have experience with other resins
03:34 PM fragalot: were those other resins heavy mixes? (eg, low % of resin compared to filler)
03:36 PM gloops: what im saying here, if your ballast is suspended in the glue, you aint gonna achieve much by vibrating it
03:38 PM fragalot: like I said
03:38 PM fragalot: throw more epoxy at it
03:39 PM fragalot: at the moment the mixes i've experimented with were too lean
03:39 PM gloops: increase the epoxy to ballast?
03:39 PM fragalot: vacuuming did nothing but make it worse, as the air expanded, pushed the particles apart, but it doesn't "collapse" again on it's own after as there was not enough epoxy
03:40 PM fragalot: vibrating helped a bit more, but by that point it was already too late
03:40 PM gloops: are you vacuuming the mix with ballast in it?
03:40 PM fragalot: in this instance I vacuumed the epoxy itself, just for shits'n'giggles, and the final mix
03:41 PM fragalot: vacuumig the epoxy itself doesn't do anything useful as I introduce air again mixing in the ballast anyway
03:41 PM fragalot: but I figured i'd do it just because I could
03:41 PM fragalot: :D
03:42 PM gloops: so you have varying grades of ballast, basically sand up to pebbles?
03:42 PM fragalot: yup
03:43 PM fragalot: found the right ratio of it all dry
03:43 PM fragalot: found the right amount of epoxy using water
03:43 PM gloops: so the pebbles stack and the smaller particles fill the voids between the pebbles
03:43 PM fragalot: but need more epoxy than I did water tbh
03:43 PM CaptHindsight: wet water?
03:43 PM fragalot: CaptHindsight: hard water, actually
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: water is wetter than epoxy
03:44 PM fragalot: Yup
03:44 PM fragalot: I came up with 7% water, tried 7% epoxy,d idn't work for shit
03:44 PM fragalot: going to try 10% and up in a few more batches tomorrow
03:44 PM CaptHindsight: 10-13% likely
03:45 PM fragalot: yeah
03:45 PM fragalot: the epoxy itself is very nice to work with though
03:45 PM CaptHindsight: 15% for thicker epoxy
03:45 PM fragalot: doesn't smell, 200cP so nice & runny
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: I have some I can trigger at ~60C
03:46 PM CaptHindsight: then it goes up like a mushroom cloud
03:46 PM fragalot: xD
03:47 PM fragalot: this one is supposed to be baked at 80°C, but according to the manufacturer that's only if I want it to be high temp resistant
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: just thinking if it was combined with a rubber
03:47 PM gloops: with concrete, all vibrating does is compact the particles, which makes them sink, the air is pressed out
03:48 PM gloops: or better techniques, the concrete is put in the mold fairly dry mix, and pressed - same effect but no sinking
04:00 PM printuser: is there an easy way to make the Z axis raise up whenever a tool change is performed? Would it then perhaps lower again (with compensation) after the tool were changed? How does this work normally?
04:00 PM printuser: (for manual tool changes with quick-change tool holders)
04:29 PM JT-Shop: printuser: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/config/ini-config.html#_emcio_section
04:43 PM printuser: thanks, I got it working!
05:01 PM JT-Shop: yw
05:30 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, does that TOOL_CHANGE_POSITION work with machine coordinates or the active work offset?
05:45 PM pcw_mesa: Tom_L: fixed the hm-2 source
05:46 PM pcw_mesa: (updated inmux.vhd)
05:47 PM pcw_mesa: so does not need the hotsmot2 line commented out anymore
06:15 PM Tom_L: for which card?
06:16 PM andypugh: Does anyone have any use for a slightly unsual D1-4 spindle nose adaptor?
06:16 PM andypugh: The unusual part is that it has the three bores for the cams exactly half a probe diameter too close to the reference face.
06:18 PM Tom_L: pcw_home, does that address the issue pjm was having?
06:18 PM Tom_L: or something else...
06:19 PM XXCoder: booyah
06:20 PM andypugh: Here is a nice photo of the last of the cam bores being put in the wrong place. Other than that it’s a nice piece ot work. https://photos.app.goo.gl/UYitDOY9d62AlW8l2
06:21 PM Tom_L: oh nevermind... that was the loadmpg line i commented out
06:21 PM XXCoder: hey andypugh I remember you was working on something but cant remember what it was
06:21 PM Tom_L: pcw_home it's in the 7i80.zip now?
06:21 PM Tom_L: and will that work on all cards?
06:22 PM pcw_mesa: yes it should be
06:22 PM Tom_L: i'll just copy the one file to the other directories
06:22 PM pcw_mesa: all source zip files are the same
06:22 PM Tom_L: ok
06:23 PM pcw_mesa: yeah only one file updated (i must have missed copying it somehow)
06:24 PM pcw_mesa: I dont know what issue pjm was having
06:32 PM Tom_L: inmux.vhd or inmuxm.vhd ? inmuxm.vhd has the 2018 datestamp
06:35 PM pcw_mesa: inmuxm
06:36 PM pcw_mesa: inmux is a obsolete file ( a hitchiker )
06:37 PM Tom_L: ok
06:37 PM pcw_mesa: inm and inmuxm and dpainter are all quite new
06:38 PM Tom_L: should i copy dpainter across directories as well?
06:38 PM BeachBumPete: damn its nice to be Friday afternoon relaxin' what are you guys doing this weekend? Anything interesting?
06:38 PM Tom_L: (i keep a vhd set for each card)
06:39 PM pcw_mesa: no, it matches the distributed hostmot2.vhd
06:39 PM pcw_mesa: only inmuxm was out of sync
06:58 PM cbjamo1 is now known as cbjamo
07:31 PM Tom_L: pcw_mesa, downloaded the 7i80.zip and still get that error
07:34 PM pcw_mesa: what exact error?
07:35 PM Tom_shop: Line 3094: Formal port/generic <loadmpg> is not declared in <inmuxm>
07:42 PM pcw_mesa: hmm its in my zip file
07:42 PM Tom_L: i'm trying it on the windows box... just pulled both 7i80 & 7i92 zips
07:44 PM Tom_L: same error with the 7i80 zip
07:44 PM Tom_L: fresh copy
07:44 PM pcw_mesa: MD5 (7i80.zip) = b29947669a1e9cb2a8aea959f4b7e44f ?
07:45 PM Tom_L: where do i grab md5?
07:46 PM pcw_mesa: Oops my fault, forgot a step for copying this stuff
07:49 PM pcw_mesa: about 5 mins should be uploaded
07:49 PM Tom_L: lemme know and i'll grab and test it
07:54 PM Tom_L: are you phasing out the 7i43?
07:56 PM pcw_mesa: should all be there now
07:56 PM pcw_mesa: Yeah unless you want USB the 7I90 is better in every way than the 7I43
07:56 PM Tom_L: that's what i figured
07:58 PM pcw_mesa: we probably have about 30 left which I will keep as customer spares rather then scrap
07:58 PM Tom_L: you have an empty folder in the 7i80 zip
07:58 PM Tom_L: 'new folder'
07:59 PM pcw_mesa: oops well not harmful, let me fix for next time
07:59 PM Tom_L: yeah no biggie..
08:00 PM Tom_L: one in the source directories too
08:00 PM Tom_L: 't'
08:00 PM pcw_mesa: also some random bitfiles
