12:48 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
12:52 AM IchGucksLive: into a summer ending week
12:52 AM IchGucksLive: asthey claim to be above 20deg from tomorrow
12:54 AM IchGucksLive: off to garden
02:03 AM Deejay: moin
04:27 AM miss0r|laptop: anyone seen fragalot today?(I'm wondering when he will be back from vacation=
04:28 AM XXCoder: yo
04:30 AM miss0r|laptop: hello
04:30 AM XXCoder: work is such a drag after vacaytion lol
04:31 AM miss0r|laptop: Not when you are selfemployed ;) Then you can't wait to get starteds
04:31 AM XXCoder: thats why I doont take vacations lol\
04:31 AM XXCoder: :)
04:31 AM miss0r|laptop: hehe
04:32 AM miss0r|laptop: ahh. it seems the good folks of this factory have gone to lunch now. I can take off my hearing protection. I am sitting litterally right next to an insane vacuum pump/fan
04:33 AM XXCoder: :)
04:33 AM miss0r|laptop: and it is ridiculously loud when it starts up
04:33 AM XXCoder: you own the factory?
04:33 AM miss0r|laptop: lol, no :] I'm just hired in to do some modifications to a few machines
04:33 AM XXCoder: ahhh ok :)
04:34 AM miss0r|laptop: I work for my self, and theres only me
04:34 AM XXCoder: "self employed" and "factory" confused me a bit lol
04:34 AM miss0r|laptop: Also, I wouldn't want to have any coworkers - My boss is a dick
04:34 AM XXCoder: lol
04:35 AM miss0r|laptop: I can pull 18 hour shifts, and he doesn't even say thanks ;)
04:35 AM XXCoder: dang
04:35 AM miss0r|laptop: Back to doing the documentation for this rebuild.... (I hate CE labeling)
04:35 AM XXCoder: later
04:36 AM miss0r|laptop: (sarcasm is hard to understand on IRC... hehe, I am my own boss, should that have slipped)
04:36 AM XXCoder: ya figured that lol
04:36 AM miss0r|laptop: ;)
04:55 AM jthornton: morning
04:55 AM XXCoder: hey jt
04:59 AM jthornton: what's up
04:59 AM XXCoder: not a lot. living room painted now yay. I guess they plan to do bedroom tomorrow.
05:03 AM jthornton: house starting to take shape?
05:04 AM XXCoder: finally doing final steps to making living room and bedroom livabkle
06:36 AM Loetmichel: Hmm.. Liuxcnc-related or machine related? I have an occasional but annoying on my CNC 6040 lately. THe y stepper stops and "beeps" (like it cant follow acceleration) EVERY time on the same point in the gcode, nothing strange to see at that point, usually just a switch from x linear to y linear move with 3mm of 45° move in between... What do you think: some kind of cablestepper driver related
06:36 AM Loetmichel: or a bug in linuxCNC where he wants to accelerate WAY to fast?
06:45 AM jthornton: maybe your max acceleration is set too high
06:51 AM Loetmichel: jthornton: i just had the same program running 6 times. (everya time offest one part width in x)... 5 times it ran like a charm, last time had cost me 4 mill bits on the exact same spot, until i slowed down to F300 from F1200 (F300 is the spart speed of the steppers)
06:51 AM Loetmichel: start
06:52 AM miss0r: odd
06:55 AM Loetmichel: maybe a rounding error that causes it to "forget" the acceleration ramp at certain positions?
06:55 AM Loetmichel: especially with G64P0.05 active?
06:56 AM miss0r: A rounding error that accumulates over all 6 parts, until it becomes too much
06:57 AM Loetmichel: miss0r: i meant : in combination with absolute x position
06:57 AM Loetmichel: the moemnt i set a different home even if its just a hair off( 0,1mm) it works flawlessly
06:57 AM Loetmichel: just tested that
06:58 AM miss0r: Hmm... Would you mind sharing the g code?
07:00 AM Loetmichel: moment
07:01 AM miss0r: I am searching the internet like crazy trying to locate an affordable good quality drawer system for my nuts'n bolts
07:02 AM methods_: get some lista cabinets
07:03 AM Loetmichel: miss0r: https://pastebin.com/XDLu2nbZ
07:04 AM miss0r: looking at something simular at the moment: https://www.ssg.eu/vaerkstedsinventar/vaerktoejs-skuffer/skuffesektion-700-10-819x1005x736mm-5-skuffer.html but its sale price is 1800eur
07:04 AM Loetmichel: not the only code that happens but the most recent one (just at the moment on the machine)
07:05 AM methods_: yeah they're not cheap
07:05 AM methods_: i try to pick them up at auctions
07:05 AM methods_: much cheaper that way
07:05 AM miss0r: Loetmichel: Where are you having the issue
07:06 AM Loetmichel: and it happens (WHEN it happens) exactly at line 9741 or 9748
07:06 AM Loetmichel: not aboce, not below...
07:06 AM Loetmichel: above
07:07 AM Loetmichel: s/9748/9758
07:07 AM Loetmichel: the small 3mm 45° corner
07:07 AM Loetmichel: not all depths, just those two
07:07 AM Loetmichel: whats extra strange because the ones above and below are identical
07:10 AM miss0r: Yeah
07:10 AM miss0r: The code looks good :S
07:11 AM miss0r: Does it break during the startup operation of the line or just somewhere along the movement?
07:12 AM Tom_L: how much backlash comp is built in the config?
07:12 AM Loetmichel: it just moves in x when it should do 45° xy
07:12 AM Tom_L: if it's at the start that could be it
07:12 AM Loetmichel: so it fails at the beginning of the line
07:12 AM Loetmichel: none
07:13 AM Loetmichel: the CNC6040 has ballscrews
07:13 AM pcw_home: If the TP had a large acceleration violation you would expect to get a following error (assuming your stepgen accel settings and following error limits are reasonable)
07:13 AM Loetmichel: no backlash needed
07:13 AM miss0r: well. The code specifies a straight line (0 degrees)
07:13 AM Loetmichel: pcw_home: following error with steppers and LPT drivers?
07:13 AM pcw_home: yep
07:14 AM miss0r: bleh. scratch that. it is a 45 degree movement in the code. Never mind me
07:14 AM Loetmichel: i just looked
07:15 AM Loetmichel: i told the right lines ;)
07:16 AM Loetmichel: pcw_home: i never knew you could set limits for acceleration following error in stepgen
07:16 AM Loetmichel: i thought that was exclusiely a thing of servo drives
07:16 AM Loetmichel: (in the driver)
07:19 AM miss0r: Loetmichel: question: Would it do the same thing if you excluded the last digit? i.e. running with 0.01mm acuracy instead of 0.001?
07:20 AM Loetmichel: no idea
07:21 AM miss0r: Mleh. Doing CE labeling of hardware is a pain
07:21 AM Loetmichel: i am usung a quite crude "postprocessor" thats is a freeware program called "BoCNC" that can convert coloured .hpgl files to 2,5d gcode
07:21 AM Loetmichel: i cant change what units it uses
07:22 AM miss0r: sounds like you need to write a post processor for that simple task
08:00 AM Beachbumpete1: and to think I used to enjoy searching for CNC machines online :)
08:08 AM Loetmichel: ???
08:10 AM Beachbumpete1: getting tired of looking for a good deal on a nice machine LOL
08:11 AM Beachbumpete1: dealing with machinery salesmen is worse than used car salesmen
08:16 AM syyl: used machines are a world of hurt.
08:16 AM syyl: "low hours. only used for prototyping"
08:17 AM syyl: "only used for machining plastics"
08:17 AM syyl: "machine comes out of an apprentice shop"
08:17 AM syyl: that generaly the sign to run away ;)
08:17 AM Beachbumpete1: IKR
08:17 AM Beachbumpete1: but hey it is what it is
08:18 AM Beachbumpete1: no money for brand new so we will just have to suffer
08:18 AM syyl: when I browse used machines, it always seems like there are noooo machines ever used two shift in a production enviroment ;)
08:19 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah little old lady drove it to the store and back only on weekends ;)
08:19 AM syyl: exactly :D
08:19 AM syyl: and then there is the rattlecan-rebuild.
08:19 AM syyl: "machine repainted!"
08:19 AM Beachbumpete1: We have been looking at used HAAS machines say 04 and newer
08:19 AM syyl: and you cann still the overspray on the skid its sitting on
08:20 AM Beachbumpete1: some of those actually look nice there are companies that specialize in refurbishing machines and sell with a short warrantee
08:20 AM syyl: it seems like the haases pay themself off fast enough and get replaced quite regular
08:21 AM Beachbumpete1: would love to find one in FLA so I don't have to travel to Oregon again ;)
08:21 AM Beachbumpete1: most machines do If used properly
08:21 AM Beachbumpete1: if not then you had better just find a new career LOL
08:21 AM syyl: yeah
08:22 AM Beachbumpete1: hell even my retrofit Cincinatti Arrow 500 has more than paid for itself in the few years I have owned it
08:22 AM syyl: but generaly something like a haas superminimill will pay off faster than say a kitamura ;)
08:22 AM Beachbumpete1: I actually like those minimills but we need a 4020 or similar
08:23 AM syyl: i would love a minimill :D
08:23 AM Beachbumpete1: DT1
08:23 AM syyl: they are even new not out of the realm of machines that I might get one day ;)
08:24 AM syyl: the DT is the milldrill-center?
08:24 AM syyl: like a fanuc robodrill?
08:24 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah similar and fast
08:24 AM syyl: oh they come with a 15k spindle
08:25 AM Beachbumpete1: I know a guy that makes airgun receivers in titanium and aluminum on a minimill
08:33 AM Beachbumpete1: There is actually a nice later model FADAL 4020 down in Miami for sale right now we are inquiring about. Nice that is nearby
08:34 AM syyl: kinda sad that fadal is gone
08:34 AM syyl: the few 4020 i saw where nice machines
08:34 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah I was aware of the FADAL situation
08:35 AM Beachbumpete1: they are MAG FADAL or something now
08:35 AM Beachbumpete1: an international comglomerate or something
08:35 AM Beachbumpete1: con
08:35 AM syyl: like hardingebridgeport?
08:37 AM Beachbumpete1: dunno
08:38 AM Beachbumpete1: MAG is like Fadal Cincinatti, and a few others rolled into one in addition to a ton of parts houses and service companies as I understand it
08:39 AM syyl: oh there are still new machines built :o
08:39 AM syyl: i didnt know that
08:42 AM Beachbumpete1: yeah apparently
08:43 AM Beachbumpete1: the old owners sold off their holdings with FADAL awhile ago
08:43 AM Beachbumpete1: the machines are not all that dissimilar to their designs tho it appears.
08:43 AM Beachbumpete1: newer controls fanuc etc
08:47 AM gloops: this rain is not drops, its endless water with bubbles
08:56 AM Beachbumpete1: heh
09:02 AM Beachbumpete1: that photogrammetry method using that software 3DF Zephyr is pretty impressive
09:03 AM fragalot: hey
09:03 AM Beachbumpete1: hey
09:05 AM gloops: well, ive got a couple of hours so sitting here trying to remember what i was doing last with my router
09:08 AM Beachbumpete1: I would bet that I can use this photogrammetry to model my JEM style guitar kit body I got
09:39 AM Beachbumpete1: doing my first photogrammetry scan of a wooden chair :)
09:41 AM gloops: so the cutter ive moved 5 times during the last few days has gone, now i actually need it
09:45 AM Loetmichel: gloops: normal
09:45 AM Loetmichel: the moment you have ordered a new one and it arrives you will find the other one
09:46 AM gloops: it will turn up the minute ive finished the job with a cutter half the size
09:47 AM Loetmichel: or that
10:29 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
10:30 AM IchGucksLive: toda first full garden day
10:30 AM IchGucksLive: it jumpt on temps into the 20th
10:31 AM gloops: torrential rain, no gardening here
10:31 AM gloops: i rotavated an area last week, its like a swamp now
10:32 AM IchGucksLive: more then 500 plants out
10:32 AM IchGucksLive: and about the same in reserve if it fals below -5deg
10:32 AM gloops: onion sets are up and shallots
10:33 AM IchGucksLive: the grandchildren and the city guests love to see a big garden
10:34 AM IchGucksLive: whats up gloops at your setings all clear
10:34 AM gloops: you cant beat a good vegetable garden
10:34 AM gloops: yeah its seems ok now im just going out to it in a minute
10:34 AM IchGucksLive: do so
10:34 AM IchGucksLive: amd dont forget the cheeting sandpaper
10:35 AM gloops: slowly getting there, surfacing spars on table, will put mdf board straight on
10:35 AM gloops: would be quicker with hand plane heh
10:39 AM IchGucksLive: take yiur time and mount dials to see ofsets
10:39 AM IchGucksLive: on huge path
10:39 AM IchGucksLive: meaning axis movements
10:40 AM gloops: yes will be able to start proper testing when i get a work surface on
10:41 AM gloops: anyway afk
10:42 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off till later coffee break cake is off oven yummm
11:00 AM Tom_L: Beachbumpete1_, fadal are light weight machines
11:00 AM JT-Shop: finally got the ballista off the shop floor and hung up http://gnipsel.com/images/ballista/ballista04.jpg
11:02 AM Tom_L: 40F, was 60 when i got up
11:02 AM Tom_L: wind howling like crazy
11:03 AM JT-Shop: yea 40° drop from now to tonight
11:04 AM Beachbumpete1_: yeah man they say the same thing about HAAS machines
11:05 AM Tom_L: what are you gonna cut with it?
11:06 AM Tom_L: all we cut on ours was aluminum
11:06 AM Tom_L: he had 3-4 of em at one point
11:06 AM Beachbumpete1_: Probably just structural steel and aluminum/plastics
11:06 AM Tom_L: much steel, i'd look for something a bit heavier
11:06 AM miss0r: This damn european CE branding is kicking my ass :D
11:07 AM Beachbumpete1_: like I said man everyone says the same thing about the HAAS and we cut tool steels all day long with them in a production environment.
11:07 AM Beachbumpete1_: not disagreeing with you generally but it is what it is
11:08 AM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/p/1994-Fadal-VMC-15-CNC-Vertical-Machining-Center-7791097/820916233
11:08 AM Tom_L: there's a handfull of em
11:08 AM Tom_L: he had a littl 15 as well
11:08 AM Beachbumpete1_: we are looking at 2005 and up machines
11:08 AM Beachbumpete1_: I wanted a 15YT when I was looking for my shop
11:08 AM Beachbumpete1_: XT
11:11 AM Tom_L: i think my mill rapids faster than the 15 did
11:11 AM Beachbumpete1_: really?
11:11 AM Tom_L: it was only 200ipm
11:12 AM Beachbumpete1_: I thought they were in the 4-500 IPM
11:12 AM Tom_L: probably some of the bigger ones or newer
11:12 AM Tom_L: you could just about reach in and change parts during a tool change :D
11:13 AM Tom_L: that was his first cnc and he started in his garage with it
11:14 AM Beachbumpete1_: nice
11:14 AM Tom_L: had a bridgeport, bridgeport tracer and a boss 5 in the very beginning
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:55 AM holzjunkie: IchGucksLive: zach
11:55 AM holzjunkie: tach
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
12:08 PM CaptHindsight: back from the land of dialup speeds
12:09 PM Tom_L: at least you found the rope to climb out
12:09 PM CaptHindsight: I'm glad that ATT just put in fiber
12:09 PM miss0r: where you've been?
12:10 PM CaptHindsight: around here it's been Comcast or 6/0.5mb DSL
12:11 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: digging in the area knocked out our service
12:12 PM miss0r: well, that sucks. When it comes to digging i'm glad we're using a 4G router
12:13 PM CaptHindsight: we have that for backup as well, but it's not the best
12:13 PM CaptHindsight: and we have everything hard wired
12:15 PM CaptHindsight: plus some people nearby seem to think all the channels belong to them
12:15 PM miss0r: The 'landline' here is/was too long and old to sustain any real speed/stability. So I just gave the 4G a shot. Turns out my ISP has a transmitter on the cell tower ~300 meters from here. excellent reception :)
12:16 PM miss0r: lol
12:16 PM miss0r: Inside my house everything is hardwired as well. The wife uses wifi on her tablet, thought. But other than that everything is cabeled
12:16 PM CaptHindsight: our's is about the same distance
12:16 PM miss0r: but not stable/fast ?
12:16 PM IchGucksLive: miss do you think the WALL will keep the pigs away
12:17 PM miss0r: what wall? what pigs? :)
12:17 PM CaptHindsight: but if a few jerks run multiple routes with directional antennas there's not enough channels to go around
12:18 PM miss0r: True. Luckily for me, I live in the middle of nowhere, so i'm good
12:18 PM CaptHindsight: our ISP has a hotspot on our building
12:18 PM miss0r: With this 4G connection here I get(from speedtest.net) 17ms delay, 78Mbps down 89Mbps up
12:18 PM CaptHindsight: nice
12:18 PM CaptHindsight: low ping as well
12:19 PM miss0r: Plus I chose this ISP because they could give me a static IP
12:19 PM miss0r: So, I've got pretty much everything I could want, even on wireless
12:21 PM CaptHindsight: with the new fiber they just put in our service options just went up and price down
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: Comcast was already offering 150mb down for ~$100/mo
12:23 PM miss0r: o.0
12:23 PM miss0r: That is something that realy lacks around here. Good internet speed without paying a fortune
12:23 PM miss0r: I would LOVE to have a fiber connection (at low cost, of course)
12:23 PM CaptHindsight: do you pay far less or more?
12:24 PM miss0r: Little more. I pay ~$130
12:25 PM CaptHindsight: 1Gb is $300.mo
12:25 PM CaptHindsight: 250mb is $200/mo
12:25 PM miss0r: Its alot of money... but it is also alot of bandwidth
12:27 PM miss0r: Well, my days of downloading moveis online are looong gone. With this speed I can handle a website and do multible streaming services at once. So I guess I don't realy need anything else
12:27 PM CaptHindsight: looks like 1gb fiber for the home is $140/mo
12:28 PM CaptHindsight: $70/mo if Google is in your town
12:29 PM miss0r: almost a decade ago, I lived with my wife in a small apartment in central copenhagen. all the apartments had a rj-45 outlet, that you could 'rent' with a bandwidth limit for a price. the faster the speed you wanted, the more expensive...
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: $300 a month for 2Gbps
12:30 PM miss0r: Turns out the bandwidth limit was programmed into the cisco switch in the basement. When I did some poking around I also found that you could reach the console port on said switch, with a RJ-45 to DB9, if you attached the RJ-45(without its locking pin) to a broomhandle...
12:31 PM miss0r: We had excellent internet speed for next to nothing :D
12:31 PM miss0r: (the company that made the installation, thought it was not needed to password protect local access, since it was inside a wiremesh fense enclosure in the basement) :D
12:32 PM CaptHindsight: hence the broom handle
12:32 PM miss0r: yeah, it was out of reach.
12:35 PM miss0r: Also, that small apartment didn't have a shower. So the building had showers in the basement. 1 shower for three "staircases?". In there you use your laundry card(the one used to pay for using the washingmachines). But one day when I got home from work, I decided to take a look at what made that box tick.. It was very simple. I ended up glueing a 'reed contact'(one of those magnetically activated switches inside
12:35 PM miss0r: a glass rod) inside the box. And whenever I wanted a shower, I would just stick a magnet to the side of the box, on the inconspicous sticker I had placed in the right place :D
12:35 PM miss0r: Since then I've cooled down somewhat on all the 'hacking' stuff :]
12:36 PM miss0r: So, please don't judge me :] I couldn't help myself
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: I understand, no comment on any previous activities :)
12:39 PM miss0r: ;)
12:39 PM CaptHindsight: satellite TV, cable TV, vending machines etc
12:40 PM miss0r: sure.. When it comes to satellite tv noone is to blame! I didn't ASK to have them transmit THEIR signal into MY backyard...
12:40 PM CaptHindsight: exactly
12:40 PM CaptHindsight: back in the early 80's it was all analog
12:40 PM CaptHindsight: same for cable
12:40 PM miss0r: yeah. That made stuff easier
12:41 PM CaptHindsight: same for cell phones
12:41 PM miss0r: Those I've never actualy messed around with
12:42 PM CaptHindsight: then thay made laws with penalties just shy of what one gets for murder
12:42 PM miss0r: Damn government :]
12:43 PM CaptHindsight: I heard it's even like 10+ years for using the IR sensors at the stop lights without authorization
12:43 PM miss0r: But, as it is with alot of things, they have to catch you first :)
12:43 PM miss0r: That system is a bit harder to access in Denmark
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: some places you could just flash your high beams to get a green light
12:44 PM miss0r: It controlled from a central, and the veicles that needs a green light(ambulance police ect, you know) and they are tracked by GPS
12:44 PM CaptHindsight: makes sense
12:45 PM miss0r: so you'd have to be alot more into stuff than I am to get access :) also, one could reasonably assume it is pretty secture
12:46 PM CaptHindsight: do you have camera at nearly every traffic light now?
12:46 PM miss0r: Not even close
12:46 PM miss0r: Very few traffic lights have cameras
12:48 PM CaptHindsight: we had the title for the city with the most cameras
12:48 PM CaptHindsight: in the US
12:49 PM miss0r: I like the idea of being able to fart without getting a notice from the nsa
12:50 PM miss0r: But I guess it makes it alot harder for people to do stuff they aren't supposed to
12:50 PM CaptHindsight: we still had the most shootings
12:51 PM CaptHindsight: but those were in areas where the people matter even less
12:51 PM miss0r: people that matter less?
12:53 PM CaptHindsight: they care a bit more if you are in a white neighborhood
12:53 PM CaptHindsight: esp upper middle to upper
12:54 PM miss0r: Yeah, so i've heard
12:54 PM CaptHindsight: the real high crime areas have had cameras on near every corner for years
12:54 PM miss0r: but as it is with the media, you just don't know what to trust exactly. Especially here on the other side of the pond, we don't get alot of that
12:55 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Chiraq
12:55 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, for entertainment?
12:55 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: apparently
12:56 PM Beachbumpete1_: Tom_L have you ever run MAZAK machines?
12:56 PM miss0r: That sucks. How do you feel living there?
12:56 PM Tom_L: no but i've seen a few
12:56 PM Tom_L: afik they're 'ok'
12:56 PM Tom_L: probably heavier than fadal or haas
12:57 PM Beachbumpete1_: a local reseller has a nice looking NEXUS 510 complete with probing and fourth axis
12:57 PM Beachbumpete1_: oh I understand they are a good bit better than both of those machines but they are quite expensive
12:57 PM syyl: a external company that does a lot of machining for us has a bunch of mazaks
12:57 PM Beachbumpete1_: this one is no different
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: miss0r: I'm 50 miles out, so it's more scared country folks here
12:57 PM Tom_L: in the mori seki class probably
12:57 PM Beachbumpete1_: but with the accessories it might be worth it
12:57 PM syyl: they are about dmg-quality
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: scared of anything not white
12:58 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: hehe, that sounds a bit like my neighborhood
12:58 PM CaptHindsight: I've repaired a few Mazaks
12:58 PM CaptHindsight: well made
12:58 PM CaptHindsight: ]mostly wiring or sensor problems over time
12:59 PM Beachbumpete1_: this ones an 04
01:00 PM Tom_L: do they have manuals?
01:00 PM CaptHindsight: I was tempted more than once to pick up larger lathes with controller problems
01:00 PM Beachbumpete1_: well the reseller apparently is the local MAZAK dealer so I would think they could acquire them if they were not included
01:01 PM Beachbumpete1_: even used this machine costs more than a new HAAS VF2 tho
01:01 PM hazzy-dev: Beachbumpete1_: Mazaks are very nice machines, and the newer controls rock!
01:01 PM hazzy-dev: We have an older VT-41 moving column and it is built like an tank, and very easy to work on. Need to convert to LCNC though
01:01 PM Beachbumpete1_: ya know its funny
01:01 PM CaptHindsight: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/hvo/d/mazak-vqc-20-50/6548964362.html $2k
01:02 PM Beachbumpete1_: I have run HAAS, FADAL, even a little kitamura
01:02 PM Beachbumpete1_: and I absolutely LOVE my little LInuxCNC Cincinatti Arrow control
01:02 PM Beachbumpete1_: damn that looks rough
01:03 PM Beachbumpete1_: https://i.imgur.com/lLhL9uX.jpg
01:04 PM Tom_L: how much?
01:04 PM hazzy-dev: Mazak machines are in a completely different league than hass in terms of build quality, but you pay for it!
01:04 PM Beachbumpete1_: they are asking near $70 but he said they would come in closer to 60k
01:05 PM Tom_L: that's probably fair if it holds tolerances
01:05 PM CaptHindsight: $k or best https://www.ebay.com/itm/MAZAK-AJV-25-405-CNC-VERTICAL-MACHINING-CENTER-VMC-M32-Mazatrol/282897116749
01:05 PM CaptHindsight: 3k

01:07 PM CaptHindsight: possible scammer?
01:10 PM Beachbumpete1_: dont know if he wants to go that high but maybe.....
01:11 PM Beachbumpete1_: sure looks good tho
01:17 PM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
01:24 PM CaptHindsight: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/ele/d/laser-engraving-machine/6548197719.html
01:25 PM CaptHindsight: no Z adjust in these right?
01:26 PM gloops: dont think so
01:26 PM gloops: not needed though?
01:26 PM jdh: manual z
01:27 PM jdh: cheap ones are usb windows only w/dongle
01:27 PM CaptHindsight: looks like $400 new on Amamzon
01:28 PM CaptHindsight: Max. item size to be engraved: 10.3" x 8" x 2.9" (260mm x 200mm x 70mm)
01:30 PM gloops: whats it going to engrave? cheese?
01:32 PM jdh: paper & bamboo
01:36 PM FinboySlick: Was watching a video about Brother 5 axis machines and the guys mentioned that they disable full 5 axis for 'national security reasons'.
01:37 PM gregcnc: depending on where they land or?
01:38 PM FinboySlick: Seems to be the default policy. Unlocked only under specific circumstances.
01:39 PM Beachbumpete1_: dont need a z with laser no?
01:39 PM FinboySlick: I know that the DMG machines have a GPS in them and you have to call them if you move the machine.
01:39 PM Beachbumpete1_: to what end and purpose?
01:40 PM gregcnc_: There was that whole mess where Mitutoyo got caught exporting CMM to places they weren't supposed to
01:52 PM gloops: right, ive done what i should have done weeks ago, ordered a new motor for Z
01:53 PM gloops: i blame all my problems on that 8 wire motor, in fact im going to throw the damn thing in the fire!
01:53 PM jdh: good idea
01:53 PM gregcnc_: braised motor for dinner?
01:55 PM CaptHindsight: FinboySlick: so what you are saying is that anyone with 5-axis machine building skills is a potential threat to national security?
01:56 PM FinboySlick: CaptHindsight: Well, that appears to be the case. It just sort of surprised me that the manufacturers would have to cripple such capable machines by default.
01:57 PM gregcnc_: full background check required, also when buying material to machine
01:59 PM gregcnc_: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/cnc-machining/brother-5-axis-simualtaneous-possible-328549/
02:00 PM syyl: and then there was a country driven by hate and fear.
02:02 PM gloops: 5 axis is diyable
02:02 PM Beachbumpete1_: which country is that?
02:03 PM gloops: diy 5 axis code? different story
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: syyl: you left out ignorance
02:03 PM syyl: sorry, my fault
02:03 PM syyl: :(
02:04 PM syyl: hand-code 5axis simultanious!
02:04 PM gregcnc_: but it makes for good tv shows
02:04 PM syyl: i stoped watching tv
02:04 PM gloops: syyl straightforward enough for simple regular shapes
02:04 PM gregcnc_: http://www.cnc-toolkit.com/
02:05 PM syyl: i could wrap my brain around 3+2 by handcoding
02:05 PM gloops: thats a plugin for 3dsmax though gregcnc?
02:05 PM syyl: but simultanious, i think i would run away screaming ;)
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.bis.doc.gov/index.php/forms-documents/technology-evaluation/138-five-axis-simultaneous-control-machine-tools/file
02:07 PM CaptHindsight: ^^ all in the report
02:07 PM gloops: £1680 per annum
02:08 PM gloops: still, thats about the same as my van insurance
02:09 PM gloops: 5 axis hand coding - forget one off jobs, you need order of 100 units minimum
02:10 PM gregcnc_: just bill enough if they want one, it's done all the time
02:12 PM gregcnc_: hmm I must be on some list I can't download the file
02:12 PM gloops: well, i suppose you would end up with a portfolio of scripts that can be used in a modular fashion
02:13 PM gloops: once youve got a 16 blade impeller - a 32 blade one is easy etc
02:14 PM gregcnc_: but you'd never have the same geometry in 16 and 32 blades
02:14 PM gloops: youd have the principles though
02:15 PM gregcnc_: maybe
02:15 PM gloops: its getting your head round it the first time
02:16 PM gregcnc_: well that would be fun when you put it the the machine and it erred
02:16 PM gloops: a couple k a year is nothing if you have the work
02:16 PM gregcnc_: because the machien control doesn't support the code
02:17 PM gloops: gregcnc there would be hundreds of hours testing and snapping tools
02:17 PM CaptHindsight: syyl: https://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/29225
02:17 PM CaptHindsight: Automatic 5-axis NC toolpath generation ^^
02:18 PM gloops: you can run sim in the software
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: whole series of videos on 6-axis robot programming https://www.youtube.com/user/usernamseunavailable/videos
02:22 PM gloops: you are considering building a 5 axis cnc CaptHindsight?
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: ^^ designed and built his own bot and all the programming tools
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: gloops: I already do
02:23 PM gloops: you make 5 axis machines?
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: https://imagebin.ca/v/2TZ69LKPSZ6P one I built for Apple
02:24 PM CaptHindsight: at the 1/2 way point ^^
02:24 PM gloops: oh excellent
02:25 PM gloops: well, how do you generate the code?
02:25 PM gregcnc_: machines don
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: NX or Mastercam
02:25 PM gregcnc_: t
02:25 PM gregcnc_: include cam software normally
02:25 PM gregcnc_: dang
02:26 PM XXCoder: I wonder what that machine will be used for
02:26 PM gloops: no but clients are going to ask, and maybe expect some demo code
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: most of mine don't do any cutting with tools
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: that was with a laser and inkjet, few um repeatability for the surface of small parts
02:28 PM XXCoder: looks like very heavy protection
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: ~ 12" xyz
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: btw Apple is desperately hiring firmware devs
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: UEFI mostly
02:30 PM XXCoder: Wonder why
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: it's a train wreck and there aren't many devs
02:34 PM CaptHindsight: so if you know anybody....
02:34 PM XXCoder: im .... techinically a dev lol
02:34 PM XXCoder: but nah
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: pays >$100k/yr
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: have to move to Austin or CA
02:56 PM gloops: id take it but my cats have established territory here, moving would be a big upset
03:03 PM gloops: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/03/robots-could-take-over-more-than-65m-jobs-warns-oecd-report?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_b-gdnnews#link_time=1522781877
03:04 PM gloops: “More generally, jobs in Anglo-Saxon, Nordic countries and the Netherlands are less automatable than jobs in Eastern European countries, South European countries, Germany, Chile and Japan.”
03:04 PM gloops: Britain was identified by the OECD as one of the countries that would be least affected by automation
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: could easily take over our Congress
03:06 PM gloops: see, my hunch is that Brexit was manufactured by the British establishment (who of course pretended to be pro EU throughout) they know europe is heading for trouble and the UK could save its own skin
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: before the great culling begins
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: or a few revolutions
03:07 PM gloops: why is europe taking in limitless immigrants when they must know the jobs arent going to exist in 10 years
03:07 PM XXCoder: culling of what
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: why keep people around if they are of no benefit?
03:08 PM XXCoder: companies need to sell
03:08 PM XXCoder: otherwise no company
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: can't sell things to people that can't afford it
03:09 PM gloops: im not talking from a point of national pride or anything, the UK is unspeakably cunning, the colonies used to call the UK 'the old fox'
03:09 PM XXCoder: I suspect UBI will become more popular as more robots take over jobs.
03:09 PM XXCoder: tax robots essentally
03:09 PM gloops: now theyre stoking up a war with russia - europe will get the brunt of that
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: if they can't buy things of what use are they?
03:10 PM XXCoder: im bit concerned that britain seem to have some uprising of hatred.
03:10 PM XXCoder: just like what usa is having
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: the last cries of old men
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: have to keep that hatred going
03:11 PM gloops: yes there isnt much point in a seller having more consumers - if he has to give them the money to consume with
03:12 PM gloops: hatred unites
03:12 PM XXCoder: hatred disunities
03:13 PM CaptHindsight: divide and conquer
03:13 PM gloops: create a common enemy
03:14 PM gloops: make an enigmatic logo
03:15 PM XXCoder: hate and destroying is always easier
03:15 PM XXCoder: easier to think also
03:15 PM XXCoder: its harder to think critically so hatred filled people don't.
03:16 PM gloops: why would they think, all they want to do is buy buy buy
03:16 PM XXCoder: who is that "they"
03:16 PM XXCoder: we are all humans
03:17 PM gloops: im not sure membership of a species = equal intelligence
03:17 PM XXCoder: Often, when I ask who "they" are its apparently mental model of people they had developed in brain and blame all problems on
03:17 PM gloops: or that intelligence will arrive at the same conclusion
03:18 PM XXCoder: well yeah. varied humanity after all
03:18 PM XXCoder: we are not clones
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: they = XXCoder :)
03:19 PM XXCoder: and smartness dont directly translate to sanity. dumbness do not directly translate to insanity
03:19 PM gloops: they = 'hatred filled people'
03:19 PM XXCoder: I have met dumbver people smarter than me. I have met smarter people that is seriously dumbass
03:20 PM gloops: they are susceptible in the same way to political memes as they are marketing ones
03:20 PM XXCoder: we all can be
03:20 PM XXCoder: only skill in critical thinking skills prevents that.
03:21 PM gloops: critical thinking might not help you win friends and influence people though
03:21 PM XXCoder: meh I prefer to live in reality based world than have power
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: gloops: It can help you work out wehre to bury the bodies.
03:22 PM gloops: thinkers dont achieve anything, its the doers that rule
03:22 PM XXCoder: ah but we are chatting on internet, specifically on irc protocol correct?
03:22 PM gloops: ok?
03:22 PM XXCoder: using computers, with operating sstem on em
03:23 PM XXCoder: aka heavy fruits of labor of thinkers
03:23 PM gloops: yes it came in handy
03:23 PM XXCoder: essentally everything science found
03:23 PM XXCoder: and understood
03:23 PM gloops: and what is used for? or for whos benefit is it used?
03:24 PM XXCoder: supposely all humanity, for good. but of course we humans arent perfect
03:24 PM XXCoder: e=mc^2 to nuclear bombs
03:24 PM gloops: we are bombarded with ads - 400 an hour
03:24 PM XXCoder: rather than slow research towards true e=mc^2 matter to energy conversion power source.
03:24 PM XXCoder: ie essentally infinite power
03:26 PM gloops: there should be a linux web
03:26 PM XXCoder: huh
03:26 PM gloops: corporation free
03:26 PM XXCoder: large percent of servers IS linux
03:26 PM gloops: the content isnt
03:27 PM XXCoder: oh you mean err forgot that license linux is under name
03:27 PM XXCoder: ah! gpl
03:29 PM gloops: could these technologies continue to develop in a cottage industry, arts and crafts kind of way?
03:29 PM gloops: i.e without corps
03:29 PM XXCoder: sure
03:29 PM XXCoder: just that some science needs to be extremely large scale
03:29 PM gloops: or have corporations provided us with all this wonderful tech progress, in which case the conusmer dumbness is justified
03:29 PM XXCoder: like that gravoty sensor thing. its huge
03:30 PM XXCoder: its problem with schooling
03:30 PM XXCoder: not enpugh critical thinking skills.
03:30 PM XXCoder: and how to evaluate news
03:30 PM XXCoder: or more generally, how to evaluate any data
03:34 PM gloops: i guess its just a catch22
03:34 PM XXCoder: nah it is pretty strightforward
03:34 PM XXCoder: just educate kids better
03:34 PM XXCoder: all will roll in from that
03:34 PM gloops: no corporate state - no universities, no academics no doctors no scientists no engines no progress
03:35 PM XXCoder: usa theres now MASSIVE teacher protests
03:35 PM XXCoder: because they havent had pay increase for last 10 years
03:35 PM gloops: same here
03:35 PM gloops: theyve had a pay DECREASE
03:35 PM XXCoder: geez
03:36 PM gloops: 10 years under inflation pay rise = pay cut
03:36 PM XXCoder: saw picture of teacher holding sign: "My 2nd job paid for my sign!"
03:36 PM XXCoder: ah yes indeed
03:37 PM jdh: net pay loss with insurance/pension increases
03:37 PM cradek: minimum wage earners have it even worse
03:37 PM gloops: 10 years swingeing austerity here, and yet we have a new navy? something very funny going on
03:37 PM XXCoder: cradek: sure but then teachers is super super vital to country.
03:38 PM XXCoder: and also minium wagers had more pay increases than teachers
03:38 PM gloops: you dont need teachers when you can take qualified immigrants
03:38 PM gloops: its costs a fortune to raise an educated worker to working age
03:38 PM cradek: minimum wage is way behind inflation too. I don't know who's worse off. Lots of people I guess.
03:38 PM XXCoder: yeah.
03:39 PM XXCoder: theres line where people get increases way past inflation and other side below inflation
03:39 PM XXCoder: the past inflation side is tiny, less than few percent. yet gains is huge
03:44 PM gloops: consumer power, like the ability to choose what to spend on, is being diminished
03:44 PM gloops: you are basically being forced to use your money on housing, energy, food, supplied by fewer and fewer conglomerates and banks
03:44 PM XXCoder: essentally.
03:44 PM XXCoder: usa have anti-monopoly laws
03:45 PM XXCoder: but what results is few companies thats really one.
03:45 PM XXCoder: sanclair
03:46 PM gloops: yeah they soon get round that
03:48 PM gloops: youtube is getting shot up https://www.reuters.com/article/us-california-youtube-shooting/police-in-california-respond-to-possible-shooter-at-youtube-offices-idUSKCN1HA2LA
03:49 PM XXCoder: wonder why
03:49 PM XXCoder: ah yes yt recently banned gun videos
03:49 PM XXCoder: gun videos moved to pornhub apparently last time I read about it
03:50 PM XXCoder: have anyone ever changed mind about guns after being shot at?
03:51 PM cradek: oh yes - but not in favor of them
03:52 PM XXCoder: indeed
03:52 PM XXCoder: well I bet it sure firmed yt views on guns very well
03:52 PM gloops: was having problems with youtube yesterday, wonder if it was a cyber attack after all
03:53 PM XXCoder: maybe, local one, as it was fine for me when you was talking about it
03:53 PM XXCoder: I always called insane gun collectors (not ones that have couple for defense) ammosexuals. so i laughed so hard when I found out gun videos moved to pornhub.
03:53 PM XXCoder: ammosexuals made literal!
03:55 PM gloops: rumours the shooter is female, or was
03:57 PM gloops: ahh no sam hyde https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DZ4utIgXUAEeR27.jpg
03:57 PM XXCoder: wow not only hat but shirt also
03:59 PM XXCoder: lol decal on truck: "I shoot shit and eat it!"
04:03 PM gloops: 13m13 minutes ago
04:03 PM gloops: <gloops> Active shooter on rampage at YouTube HQ in California 'is white, adult female wearing a dark top and head scarf' https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/reports-active-shooter-youtube-hq-12298932 …
04:05 PM Deejay: gn8
04:06 PM SpeedEvil: did you just assume her gender?
04:08 PM gloops: what do you mean that sam hyde bloke is supposedly female?
04:08 PM gloops: hes got a beard
04:09 PM XXCoder: laterr
04:09 PM pink_vampire: any idea how o remove black oil / gunk spots from old paint without removing the paint?
04:10 PM cradek: soap?
04:10 PM gloops: no, it will have entered the paint to some depth
04:11 PM gloops: cut the paint back with cutting paste - or bathroom scouring cream cleaner
04:11 PM pink_vampire: cradek: not working
04:11 PM gloops: fine grade wire wool with some solvent maybe
04:12 PM pink_vampire: alcohol also didn't work
04:12 PM gloops: you have to take *some* paint off
04:13 PM pink_vampire: I'm trying goo gone right now
04:13 PM gloops: has the goo gone?
04:15 PM pink_vampire: not much
04:15 PM gloops: try metal polish
04:16 PM gloops: americans probably dont have brasso
04:16 PM pink_vampire: i 'm trying goo gone with magic foam
04:16 PM cradek: we have brasso here
04:17 PM gloops: you do, i feel a lot closer to america now
04:18 PM pink_vampire: the magic foam work some how...
04:19 PM gloops: magic heh
04:20 PM pink_vampire: it is open cell foam that is a bit abrasive
04:24 PM gloops: female suspect shot dead
04:35 PM DocHopper: gloops: Home Depot has Brasso in the US.
04:35 PM DocHopper: Oops just saw that pink_vampire said.
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: the rian here today is like a fine mist that feels like it going up and sideways
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: and we are just over freezing
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: rian/rain
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Brasso-8-oz-Metal-Polish-76523/202820651
05:11 PM gloops: brasso was good stuff, recently it seems to have been watered down
05:19 PM CaptHindsight: female shooter dead
05:20 PM gloops: yes, i suppose we could say she is a victim of the modern world
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: "I guess clear backpacks have not yet been implementet at youtube. That would have prevented this."
05:26 PM CaptHindsight: can't find a youtube of the story
05:27 PM gloops: try pornhub
05:27 PM CaptHindsight: too many to sort thru :)
05:28 PM gloops: not entering 'female shooter' in pornhub
05:33 PM Tom_itx: https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/03/us/youtube-hq-shooting/index.html
06:08 PM charlesh: So, any SSerial gurus here? My io pins aren’t showing up in dmesg, but the pendant card green light is flashing green and the pins show as being sserial
06:12 PM pcw_mesa: What OS? Do they show up in hal?
06:13 PM charlesh: 3.4.9-rtai-686-pae
06:13 PM charlesh: They don’t show in hal
06:15 PM pcw_mesa: What sserial card?
06:15 PM charlesh: 3 pins showing autoconfigured in dmesg as smart serial interfaces
06:15 PM charlesh: 7i44
06:16 PM pcw_mesa: The 7I44 is a RS-422 interface and will not show up, what card has the blinking light?
06:16 PM charlesh: 7i73 has the green light
06:17 PM charlesh: I was expecting to see the io pins.. or at least I thought I was.
06:17 PM pcw_mesa: so you are saying
06:17 PM pcw_mesa: halcmd show pin *7i73* shows nothing?
06:18 PM Tom_L: charlesh you built your own bitfile right?
06:18 PM charlesh: So I lied, it shows there
06:19 PM charlesh: Yes, built my own.
06:19 PM charlesh: But they don’t show in the halmeter?
06:21 PM charlesh: Well, damn, they are there too.. just need to look harder I guess.
06:21 PM Tom_L: glad to help... :)
06:21 PM pcw_mesa: funny long names
06:21 PM charlesh: Maybe I’ve got no business doing this!
06:22 PM Tom_L: you'll be a pro before you know it
06:23 PM charlesh: Well, at least my bit file works!
06:23 PM pcw_mesa: I can stare in the refrigerator for minutes looking for something my wife can see in 2 seconds
06:23 PM charlesh: I didnt scroll up far enough in the dmesg to see it either, was expecting it to be at the end.
06:23 PM Tom_L: i usually clear dmesg first
06:23 PM Tom_L: then start linuxcnc and check it again
06:24 PM charlesh: I did
06:24 PM charlesh: I just didn’t view the whole thing
06:25 PM charlesh: Like a bonehead. The pins don’t nose there, but at least it shows what’s attached and the software/hardware modes
08:28 PM BeachBumPete: damn I just broke an 1/8 inch endmill on a program that was supposed to be proven :(
08:30 PM Tom_L: what LOC do yours come with?
08:30 PM BeachBumPete: I think that one was .875 or something like that
08:30 PM Tom_L: really?
08:30 PM BeachBumPete: could be wrong
08:30 PM Tom_L: that's quite a bit for .125
08:30 PM BeachBumPete: I know I bought them for a specific purpose
08:31 PM Tom_L: iirc, mine are .5
08:31 PM BeachBumPete: they might have been .75
08:31 PM Tom_L: i get those locally
08:32 PM BeachBumPete: I think that one was a maritool 3 flute
08:32 PM MrHindsight: much sadness, $50 tool?
08:33 PM BeachBumPete: more like 25
08:35 PM pink_vampire: BeachBumPete: what is the feedrate, depth of cut, and the radial cut?
08:35 PM pink_vampire: also what is the rpm?
08:35 PM pink_vampire: did you use G61 or not?
08:35 PM BeachBumPete: man I don't remember LOL Im just gonna sit here and stew about how it broke and then if I get done stewing after awhile I MIGHT go back out there and try to figure out why LOL
08:36 PM BeachBumPete: I wrote that program months ago
08:36 PM BeachBumPete: already made a few parts from it without issue
08:36 PM pink_vampire: it is the same endmill?
08:36 PM MrHindsight: just reminded me of my favorite 1/4' end mill I broke by cranking the mpg too fast
08:36 PM BeachBumPete: I was not watching the machine when it broke but I heard it from the Family room couch
08:37 PM BeachBumPete: watching Harry Potter I heard a funny noise then smooth silence
08:37 PM BeachBumPete: went out there and was like SHIT
08:38 PM BeachBumPete: Probably gonna just clean up the mill and go ta bed and worry about it in the morning.
08:40 PM renz: 21:27:00 < BeachBumPete> damn I just broke an 1/8 inch endmill on a program that was supposed to be proven :(
08:40 PM MrHindsight: I forget that Maritool is a 45 min drive for me
08:40 PM renz: what does that mean
08:40 PM renz: proven for what?
08:40 PM BeachBumPete: proven code
08:40 PM renz: code for what
08:40 PM BeachBumPete: successfully ran more than once
08:40 PM MrHindsight: g-code
08:40 PM renz: code for whaton what
08:41 PM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: huh?
08:41 PM renz: speeds and feeds are dependent on the machine, the work, and the tool
08:41 PM pink_vampire: if it's use the same one, maybe it was develop some dull cutting edge
08:41 PM CaptHindsight: sure
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: its possible
08:41 PM renz: unless those are identical, the code is not proven
08:41 PM Tom_L: uh oh he's cap'n now
08:41 PM CaptHindsight: ah
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: it was the same machine, the same work, and the same tool LOL
08:42 PM renz: like, literally the same tool?
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: yeah
08:42 PM renz: because then it would be more worn
08:42 PM renz: so not same conditions
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: are you serious man?
08:42 PM renz: yes obviously
08:42 PM renz: they wear out you know
08:43 PM BeachBumPete: I have TONS of programs that are proven and run many times without issues and of course I know they wear out.
08:43 PM Tom_L: maybe chips got in the way
08:43 PM renz: ^
08:43 PM renz: maybe there was a weird resonance
08:43 PM BeachBumPete: maybe a mouse farted in china
08:43 PM Tom_L: that's a fairly long tool for .125
08:44 PM Tom_L: THAT'S IT!!
08:44 PM renz: well if a program is 'rpoven' and you tun it on a tool over and over, eventually the tool will break
08:44 PM BeachBumPete: yeah it is a corner radius one and it has lasted a LONG time
08:44 PM renz: nothing wrong with the code
08:44 PM renz: wait so it was very worn?
08:44 PM BeachBumPete: I understand that but I don't think this one was all that worn
08:44 PM renz: then your code or machine must suck
08:45 PM BeachBumPete: that must be it then they just suck
08:45 PM Tom_L: i check mine under an electron microscope before each run
08:45 PM BeachBumPete: You solved it man
08:45 PM renz: happens
08:45 PM BeachBumPete: thank you
08:45 PM renz: np
08:45 PM BeachBumPete: Tom_L LOL
08:45 PM renz: i use a little loupe for my 1/16" EMs
08:46 PM renz: 1/8" ones i can eyeball and kind of catch reflection to check the edges
08:47 PM BeachBumPete: working on a new design here lately that I hope to sell a bunch of tho
08:47 PM BeachBumPete: still needs a bunch of work
08:47 PM renz: anyway thats a pretty typical LOC so its not that
08:47 PM Tom_L: a guitar? :)
08:47 PM renz: i need a bridge
08:47 PM BeachBumPete: hehe no that is just for me man
08:47 PM BeachBumPete: I got one in london I will sell ya cheap
08:47 PM renz: either need to fab one up or just pay for some crap
08:48 PM renz: for a bass?
08:48 PM renz: its for a mexican jazz bass
08:48 PM BeachBumPete: Fender Jazz
08:48 PM renz: i sold the babicz bridge i had on it and cant find the cheapo fender plate
08:48 PM BeachBumPete: I was making a joke man london bridge
08:49 PM renz: neat joke, i still need to buy a bridge
08:49 PM renz: well, or make a bridge
08:49 PM BeachBumPete: the only bridges I have that are not on my guitars are Chinese Floyd Rose copies for my Ibanez Jem Kit
08:49 PM renz: real floyd rose is chinese
08:49 PM BeachBumPete: is it
08:49 PM renz: but they own the factory
08:50 PM renz: so not typical, more ideal
08:50 PM BeachBumPete: I would like to actually find an ibanez edge trem instead
08:50 PM BeachBumPete: but for now this one will work
08:51 PM renz: also floyd rose makes a ton of their licensed product, as the contract manufacturer
08:51 PM renz: which is just weird
08:51 PM BeachBumPete: real ones are quite nice and not cheap
08:52 PM renz: yeah but cheap licensed floyd rose is also floyd rose
08:52 PM BeachBumPete: that is what I have I believe
08:52 PM renz: well who knows, when the copies are also sometimes real
08:53 PM BeachBumPete: I understand the real ones are made from better steel and hold their settings better
08:53 PM renz: some of the licensed copies are supposedly super good, from a fabrication standpoint
08:53 PM renz: typical yes
08:53 PM renz: *typically
08:54 PM renz: anyway this came up for a guitar design at a place i was working at, and the convo was confusing, because this
08:55 PM renz: like, licensed 1st party, licensed 3rd party, licensed 3rd party made at the 1st party factory, completely independent 3rd party
08:55 PM renz: like half convo was spent trying to figure out which path a person was talking about
08:57 PM renz: oh, also licensing as the 3rd party and having 1st party or 3rd party fab
09:03 PM Tom_L: BeachBumPete i know quality of material makes a huge difference in an instrument
09:07 PM pink_vampire: if the tool was worn, the chip load got higher, and because it become more and more difficult to cut, the tool deflection also go up, and eventually the tool break
09:09 PM skunkworks: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20180403_153307.jpg
09:09 PM skunkworks: worked
09:10 PM Tom_L: what's that for?
09:10 PM BeachBumPete: yes we know this
09:10 PM Tom_L: i saw it the other day
09:10 PM BeachBumPete: drawbar?
09:10 PM Tom_L: what do we know?
09:10 PM BeachBumPete: everything above ;)
09:10 PM Tom_L: death march of a dying tool?
09:11 PM skunkworks: pin press for taking trackes apart
09:11 PM Tom_L: ahh i see now
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: you buildin a tank?
09:11 PM Tom_L: background
09:11 PM skunkworks: :)
09:12 PM skunkworks: IH crawler lader
09:12 PM skunkworks: loader
09:13 PM BeachBumPete: I guess I can't complain I have made a bunch of parts with the endmills I have setup now. The skinny ones go first ;)
09:14 PM BeachBumPete: I recently joined a guitar for sale group on facebook
09:14 PM BeachBumPete: amazing what some folks will pay or a beat up old guitar ;)
09:15 PM Tom_L: some depends on who beat it up
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: true
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: or who they SAY beat it up
09:17 PM Tom_L: more likely
09:19 PM BeachBumPete: I tried that photogrammetry test at work today... really cool but it did NOT go well LOL
09:22 PM Tom_L: what's it for? client presentations?
09:22 PM BeachBumPete: no it was just an experiment
09:22 PM codepython777: has anyone looked into wazer here? used one?
09:22 PM BeachBumPete: we are purchasing a Leica Lidar 3d scanner and I was playing with the softwares that utilize the point clouds
09:23 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure how they do it out at the vo-tech but they got some pretty fancy scanners out there
09:23 PM BeachBumPete: but yeah we plan to use the scan data for both customer presentations as well as to measure and develop CAD models and drawings for our cabinet and trim installations
09:23 PM Tom_L: they do it for hire as well
09:24 PM Tom_L: they've got table models as well as room scanners
09:24 PM BeachBumPete: the one we are getting is a cheaper one than some I think it was like $23k
