02:02 AM pink_vampire|2: hi
02:05 AM pink_vampire|2 is now known as pink_vampire
02:05 AM XXCoder: yo
02:05 AM pink_vampire: hi XXCoder
02:05 AM XXCoder: hows lathe sof ar
02:05 AM pink_vampire: FULL of junk
02:05 AM pink_vampire: i just cleaned part of the vise
02:05 AM pink_vampire: and I'm trying to find a way to remove the oil fitting and clean it
02:05 AM pink_vampire: XXCoder: ^
02:05 AM XXCoder: I guess it'll be bit before it gets to running condition you want. from convos here I understand that ways and some other stuff is important stuff
02:05 AM XXCoder: rest is fixable
02:10 AM gloops: i never realised inkscape had gcode plugin, if that does cutting parameters and tools etc inkscape is pretty much a complete package for v carving stuff
02:10 AM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thA4aCRDfpU
02:12 AM pink_vampire: gloops: does it support tangent knife?
02:12 AM gloops: no idea pink_vampire, ive not actually installed the g code plugin and looked at it
02:13 AM pink_vampire: mmm i see
02:13 AM Wolf__: lathe vise 0.o
02:14 AM pink_vampire: it's a combo lathe
02:14 AM Wolf__: ick
02:14 AM pink_vampire: but I don't have the mill head
02:14 AM holzjunkie: hello everybody
02:15 AM pink_vampire: so it is a lathe with long bed and narrow body
02:15 AM XXCoder: gloops: tht yours?
02:15 AM gloops: no not mine lol
02:15 AM XXCoder: I o want to convert my shit 3d printer to plotter for fun
02:15 AM holzjunkie: so the first sleepless nicht afe
02:15 AM pink_vampire: add a pen...
02:16 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: well, first remove some stuff
02:16 AM holzjunkie: tsfter mesacard arriving
02:16 AM XXCoder: like extruder, hotend
02:16 AM pink_vampire: no no
02:16 AM gloops: someone has done tangential knife in inkscape by swapping axis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ugFWwqRu8k
02:16 AM pink_vampire: just add small pen
02:16 AM gloops: dont know if that would work..
02:16 AM XXCoder: I dont plan to use it as 3d printer again
02:16 AM XXCoder: so its just useless extras now
02:17 AM gloops: holzjunkie youll get that running in no time
02:17 AM XXCoder: thats cool gloops
02:17 AM XXCoder: 3d [rinter has 5 axises lol
02:17 AM holzjunkie: gloops: lol i don´t think so
02:18 AM XXCoder: x, y, z, z, extruder 1, extruder 2 (2 z is needed together so wont seperate)
02:18 AM holzjunkie: there are a lot more questions then answers and them my english phobie
02:20 AM pink_vampire: holzjunkie: what do you mean?
02:21 AM gloops: holzjunkie ive learned a few things when building my machine - first relax, it IS going to work, its a just a question of when, if you dont get it working in 5 minutes its no problem, might not be a day it might be 2 days or 10 days, but you will soon have mesa up and running
02:21 AM holzjunkie: i´ve to make a retrofit of an maho because the original controlling is going out of business :-(
02:21 AM Deejay: moin
02:21 AM holzjunkie: moin
02:22 AM gloops: a lot of the stress with this comes from fear - fear that you cant get it working and it will never work and you have failed < that isnt going to happen, it will work
02:23 AM holzjunkie: the problem is i ordert a Company to do it for me but now they won´t do.
02:23 AM holzjunkie: I´ve no time to wait because i´ve to come back in business and that´s stresst me out
02:23 AM gloops: stressing will only make it longer
02:25 AM holzjunkie: thx for your friendly words to make me hopefull
02:25 AM holzjunkie: i hope realy it will work but i think i need a lot of help for understanding an programming
02:25 AM gloops: well youre on the internet, the whole world is helping you
02:26 AM holzjunkie: i hope so ;-)
02:27 AM holzjunkie: sorry if i ask the same questions but, is some German here which had worked with mesacards for an retrofit before?
02:28 AM gloops: try IchsGuckslive, he might have used mesa
02:29 AM holzjunkie: I know but he´s very busy an only thakes short time here
02:29 AM holzjunkie: an > and
02:30 AM gloops: get your head round it - youtube tutorials, forums, that kind of think, its really easy once you understand what youre trying to
02:31 AM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce4arwugpA4
02:32 AM gloops: just put your question into youtube
02:32 AM gloops: i cant program my freeview box haha
02:38 AM holzjunkie: gloops: sorry but were are you from
02:38 AM holzjunkie: it is quit equal sorry for asking
02:40 AM holzjunkie: sorry i ´ve to go
02:45 AM gloops: no no its not my video i havent used mesa
02:47 AM gloops: if youve been waiting for this card holzjunkie you should have been studying how to install it, remember the old adage 'train hard, fight easy'
02:51 AM gloops: fragalot you speak german and know mesa?
02:51 AM gloops: holzjunkie
05:01 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
05:01 AM XXCoder: yo
05:02 AM IchGucksLive: thunder and rain on the radar screen
05:18 AM IchGucksLive: till later
05:23 AM jthornton: morning
05:23 AM XXCoder: hey jt
05:24 AM XXCoder: holzjunkie wanted to learn about mesa
05:24 AM XXCoder: you might want to talk with him, jthornton .
05:24 AM holzjunkie: hy jt
05:25 AM holzjunkie: learn is to much i thing "simply" know how to get it work
05:25 AM jthornton: hey
05:25 AM jthornton: it?
05:26 AM XXCoder: think his native language is german? not too sure
05:26 AM holzjunkie: sorry yes im german and i have a very bad english sorry
05:27 AM jthornton: your english is better than my german
05:27 AM holzjunkie: ok but i thing you won´t have german in school
05:27 AM jthornton: I tried to order a pepperoni pizza in frankfort and got a pepper pizza
05:28 AM XXCoder: I only know one written language and one signed language. lol
05:28 AM jthornton: actually there is a huge german population where I live mostly farmers
05:31 AM jthornton: so what's up
05:35 AM holzjunkie: https://webmail.freenet.de/Cloud/?shareToken=d581a9be1295b9c0ff11e70fffa2876fef7f8eb52fce5f74aa78f2594e62a3b4
05:36 AM holzjunkie: it a test can anyone open it ?? it is the manual of the 7i75
05:36 AM holzjunkie: jthornton: ok so i´ll try my best
05:37 AM jthornton: yea it opens
05:37 AM jthornton: the paste errors and such use paste.ubuntu.com
05:39 AM holzjunkie: wonderfull so i can show anyone who would help me files pictures and videos
05:40 AM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest71016
05:44 AM holzjunkie: jthornton: thx for the tip
05:50 AM jthornton: looks like no rain today then back to raining every day
05:52 AM Tom_L: 32°F
05:52 AM Tom_L: and dry
05:52 AM jthornton: time for the door to open
05:53 AM Tom_L: yeah, just about.. the puppies want out
05:53 AM jthornton: lights on and door opens
05:53 AM jthornton: I still don't know what happened the other day with the lock
05:54 AM holzjunkie: we have 1°C
05:55 AM jthornton: we are 8°C
06:52 AM jthornton: sunrise time to let the chickens out
07:23 AM jdh: manual chicken release?
07:24 AM methods_: lol
07:27 AM holzjunkie: hello again how will i setup an 7i80 in linuxcnc pncconf wizard
07:27 AM jdh: carefully.
07:28 AM holzjunkie: ?
08:44 AM IchGucksLive: hi
08:44 AM IchGucksLive: rain and thunder in germany
08:49 AM IchGucksLive: hi stustev
08:55 AM enleth: is there anything in particular I should take note of when taking apart a boring head for cleaning?
08:56 AM enleth: I don't expect anything like that, but better safe than sorry
08:59 AM methods_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp0TW8vkCLg
08:59 AM methods_: iridium-5 launch
09:10 AM IchGucksLive: hi etv how is the weather in serbia
09:10 AM IchGucksLive: im in germany
09:17 AM IchGucksLive: till later
09:21 AM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
09:46 AM phipli: Hum
09:46 AM phipli: tyre on my car started going down after the cold weather
09:46 AM phipli: replaced the valve core, but it went down again
09:47 AM phipli: replaced the replacement because I could hear the leak at the valve... but it turns out it is the stem
09:47 AM phipli: I have spares... but none of the tools
09:48 AM phipli: probably should take it to a garage as it isn't really worth buying / making a bead breaker
09:58 AM Tom_L: make a tool
09:58 AM Tom_L: threaded to fit the stem with a leverage
09:59 AM Tom_L: in a pinch, i've run over the rubber part of the tire to break the bead with another vehicle
09:59 AM Tom_L: in the last case it was a spare that had never been used and the bead wasn't sealing now
10:00 AM Tom_L: carefully of course...
10:00 AM Tom_L: won't really hurt anything because it's rubber against rubber
11:24 AM pink_vampire: hi
11:25 AM pink_vampire: how do i remove a push type grease fitting?
11:31 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
11:40 AM Akex__ is now known as Akex_
12:04 PM Tecan: http://netpipe.ca/?p=804 some news to read if interested
01:05 PM gloops: got it going yet holzjunkie ?
01:41 PM Tecan: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/USB-C-Hub-Mini-Dock-with-2-USB-3-0-4K-HDMI-Port-USB-C-PD-Charging-Input-10Gbps/302685649093 >> 6 dollar hdmi interface
01:41 PM Tecan: wonder if it uses display port
01:43 PM enleth: what does one buy nowadays to get a not-completely-shit CNC wood router in the US?
01:44 PM SpeedEvil: Do you mean something that can engrave signs, or cut out buildings from giant redwoods?
01:44 PM * SpeedEvil thinks of the Larch.
01:45 PM gloops: make one enleth
01:47 PM Loetmichel: enleth: chinese CNC6040 have no american storage AFTER CUSTOMSß
01:47 PM Loetmichel: ?
01:51 PM enleth: no idea, asking for a friend who maybe fancies throwing some money at a CNC router
01:52 PM gloops: laguna seems fairly popular
01:53 PM gloops: https://lagunatools.com/cnc-machines/#swift
01:53 PM gloops: industrial - expensive
01:58 PM gloops: a good router at 4ft sizes is not so easy to throw together and costs a bit for parts, these prices are not really expensive
01:58 PM gloops: 4ft +
02:00 PM Loetmichel: that would ne 1200mm`travel on x and y?
02:00 PM Loetmichel: thats HUGE
02:00 PM gloops: thats only half a sheet
02:01 PM Loetmichel: i made one a bit bigger, but that wasnt cheap at all, even though i used marine plywood for the base...
02:01 PM gloops: suppose it depends what you want it for
02:01 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=4935&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
02:02 PM gloops: that would be $12000 from Laguna
02:02 PM Loetmichel: 1500*1050*160mm travel... and it was about 4kEur i material
02:02 PM gloops: or, for a machine that does the same
02:04 PM Loetmichel: ... not counting the few 100 hours of work
02:04 PM gloops: yeah thats the thing, if someone is being paid to make it - very big cost hike
02:05 PM gloops: ive probably spent £1000+, but i have bought mainly cheap/bargain reclaimed stuff etc
02:06 PM Loetmichel: the "wood" alone are ~600lbs...
02:06 PM gloops: can easy double that for servos and square rails and so on
02:06 PM Loetmichel: plus all the hardware like spindle, ballscrews and stuff
02:08 PM gloops: last check i made ages it was approaching £100 for bits and pieces, bolts, screws, switches, this and that
02:08 PM CaptHindsight: ask in #reprap, some there will pay you to have them build it, free is not good enough
02:09 PM gloops: is reprap like cheap hacks of expensive things?
02:09 PM gloops: i was interested in their wheelchair motor/servo thing
02:11 PM gloops: ahh printing
02:13 PM gloops: im interested in chocolate printing
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: if they built a house in #reprap it would be held together by twine and tape and claim it was stable as long as you keep tightening the twine and the tape sticky
02:15 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: i just have seen a video where omeone printed an arbor press... of PLA... why do they even attempt such stunts?
02:17 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: I used to think it was a social experiment or just for fun dares
02:17 PM gloops: i think its in the spirit of open source and so on
02:18 PM gloops: rage against the establishment - i.e against spending anything
02:18 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: and then tested it: it couldnt even crush a beer can without losing teeth from the arbor. he came to the conclusion that the 800gr PLA are about as much as a used arbor press of the same size on ebay... NOT counting the 40 hopurs print time...
02:19 PM DaViruz: :D
02:19 PM CaptHindsight: not a complete loss if they learned something, maybe ask someone that knows next time
02:20 PM CaptHindsight: sounds like most kids
02:21 PM CaptHindsight: ever see videos of the design competitions at MIT?
02:22 PM CaptHindsight: the professors said that after their students first few days of attempts and failures that they all became very "teachable"
02:24 PM Loetmichel: that was a young adult though, maybe 30yo
02:24 PM Loetmichel: not a kid
02:25 PM CaptHindsight: kids are older these days :)
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOQNXBg2eHs 3D Print Arbor Press. Worth the time?
02:27 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: yes, thtat
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: someone in ##chemistry was asking about how to make fissionable materials for a diy reactor
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: then the next day gave up and asked about how to build a renewable power source more efficient and lower cost than wind or solar
02:35 PM SpeedEvil: And he was one of the more sane people.
02:36 PM CaptHindsight: most of us know how but are just too lazy I guess :)
02:38 PM DaViruz: i've found those sciencey channels on freenode to be quite dull
02:39 PM CaptHindsight: pretty quiet most days
02:39 PM kanzure: hi was i pinged
02:39 PM CaptHindsight: the occasional interesting discussion
02:40 PM DaViruz: and when not it's usually homework questions
02:40 PM CaptHindsight: a few homework questions
02:40 PM kanzure: no nevermind. just freenode spam.
02:40 PM DaViruz: i gave up on ##physics when a large number of people seemed to agree that tattoo removal lasers were 1400 megawatt and not 1400 milliwatt
02:40 PM CaptHindsight: I love spam
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: arm removing laser
02:41 PM DaViruz: it would undoubtedly be very effective
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: maybe spread over the entire body and for a femtosecond
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: run the numbers
02:42 PM Loetmichel: femto is way to short
02:42 PM CaptHindsight: whole body bleaching
02:42 PM Loetmichel: "ablative cleaning"
02:43 PM Loetmichel: dentist "laser drills" work that way
02:43 PM gloops: in the old days a good surgeon was the quickest surgeon
02:43 PM Loetmichel: very short pulses with a few 10 or 100 joules
02:43 PM Loetmichel: in close succession
02:44 PM CaptHindsight: 1.4GW to 1.4W so 9 orders of magnitude, so nanosecond
02:44 PM gloops: hack saw through femur makes your eyes water
02:45 PM CaptHindsight: gloops: have a personal anecdote to go with the claim? :)
02:45 PM gloops: no not really, i did break my collar bone once
02:46 PM Loetmichel: gloops: wood bandaw thru tip of thumb does the eyewatering trick, too
02:46 PM Loetmichel: BTDT
02:46 PM Loetmichel: bandsaw
02:46 PM DaViruz: oh it was actually 1000MJ that was stated
02:46 PM DaViruz: that's a bunch of energy
02:46 PM gloops: oh, i did take shave off index finger bone with chop saw,
02:50 PM gloops: if you read the old accounts, there was basically 2 options for anaesthetic, if you had any money - a bottle of spirits, if not, you had to hope there was a big bloke nearby who was willing to KO you
02:51 PM Loetmichel: DaViruz: depends on the area of effect
02:52 PM Loetmichel: if its a house wall it might hold :-)
02:52 PM DaViruz: a few mm^2 of skin might pose a problem, unless it's administrered over a year or so.. :)
02:55 PM Loetmichel: DaViruz: indeed
04:31 PM Deejay: gn8
04:57 PM fdarling: does LinuxCNC support "drip feeding" it G-code rather than loading a file or interacting with it over MDI? In other words, can I stream G-code to it from a 3rd party sender?
04:58 PM cradek: nope
04:58 PM cradek: those systems only made sense for controls with limited memory or paper tape readers
04:59 PM cradek: now you can put the machine on a network and put your files in a network share, or similar
04:59 PM fdarling: cradek: yes I understand, I use LinuxCNC on 3 different CNCs at work, and I love loading up the file and having the preview
05:00 PM fdarling: cradek: but in this case I'd like to convert a 3D printer from Arduino/Marlin or Smoothieboard/Smoothiware over to MachineKit or a PC with LinuxCNC. In this case it would be nice if we could still use Repetier-Host to "drip feed" LinuxCNC
05:01 PM fdarling: this way we could change the feedrate override in realtime on LinuxCNC, but we could pause the print and resume printing at a layer and stuff with Reptier which has a better UI for this
05:01 PM fdarling: updating the feedrate through Repetier has always been laggy because it's actually inserting a Fxxx into the G-code stream, and you have to wait for it to get processed
05:01 PM fdarling: same thing with pausing the print
05:02 PM fdarling: I could see this being a useful feature for LinuxCNC because in industrial applications there is legacy equipment that's communicated with over RS-232 and it would be awesome if LinuxCNC could be a drop in replacement by having a G-code receiver/translator that would ultimately stream G-code to some part of LinuxCNC
05:03 PM fdarling: it would be like the MDI except do buffering and try to smooth motions accordingly where appropriate
05:04 PM lunadabay_ is now known as lunadabay
05:29 PM gloops: this weather is getting boring
05:29 PM gloops: slashing it down
06:43 PM gloops: old kraftwerk video came up, thats the strangest group ever, you do get the feeling though that those big strapping german lads felt slightly, well, dickish, in that role
06:46 PM JT-Shop: autoban is one of my favorite songs to listen to
06:49 PM XXCoder: mine is The Life of Silence
06:49 PM XXCoder: been listening to that for last 42 years
06:49 PM gloops: i only recognise the model
06:57 PM gloops: i am surprised though americans even heard of kraftwerk
07:09 PM jdh: I am the operator of my pocket calculator
07:15 PM gloops: arent americans listening to country music or something? haha you wont even play football im surprised european music is big over there
07:16 PM jdh: 35 years ago
07:21 PM gloops: i blame the movie industry actually, most films we see americans live in big houses with white picket fences, drive massive cars, have servants and so on, or live like hillbillies, i suppose the reality is most americans are doing the same crap we do
07:27 PM jdh: what's wrong with massive cars and servants?
07:27 PM jdh: I'm not a picket fence fan.
07:28 PM gloops: too flash
07:29 PM gregcnc: don't all Europeans live in castles?
07:29 PM gloops: in england we do
07:30 PM gloops: that is the law - an englishmans home is his castle
07:31 PM gloops: another thing that contributed to this american stereotype was the arrival of american troops here during ww2
07:32 PM gloops: the yanks had slick uniforms, loads of equipment, vehicles, loads of cash, they ate like kings - the brits had been on rations for years
07:35 PM gloops: uncle sam
07:47 PM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru-QAIyvHt0
