12:00 AM injoi: @'Wolf: what are you using for those linear rails in your picture?
12:06 AM `Wolf: 2.5w diode laser
12:06 AM `Wolf: just to play around with
12:06 AM `Wolf: test bed before I build a 120w co2 unit
12:06 AM injoi: ah cool.
12:06 AM injoi: what type of rails are those?
12:06 AM `Wolf: cheap hiwin
12:06 AM injoi: cool
12:19 AM `Wolf: grr dammit, all these tool holders and not a single one is a axa-2s
12:27 AM Crom: I have a BXA on my Sheldon now. My AXA went onto a buddies Logan 820. I've shaved 5 1/2 insert holders to be able to get on center. I think I'm going to take 0.070" off the bottom of all the tool holders
12:28 AM Crom: Seems to be a common problem on Logans
12:29 AM MrHindsight: Crom: what window manager are you using?
12:29 AM `Wolf: I needed to knock a clearance cut on the side of a 5/8” bar stock chunk and was just going to toss it in a tool holder and use the lathe to cut it out
12:29 AM gloops: well ive to work out how im going to flip this router table over, and over again to finish the welding, as welding with stick, must be over half a tonne and no space
12:30 AM Crom: MrHindsight: I'd have to check. give me 4 minutes
12:31 AM `Wolf: have like 27 holders being a mix of axa-1 and axa-2, not a single 5/8 holder in the mix
12:31 AM MrHindsight: Crom: and are you using touchegg?
12:32 AM Crom: XFCE4 Wiindow Manager, touch manager? lemme check again
12:33 AM Crom: Matchbox-keyboard
12:34 AM MrHindsight: so just touch, not multi-touch or gestures
12:34 AM Crom: not yet, just loaded the first thing I found
12:35 AM MrHindsight: thanks, just wondering
12:35 AM MrHindsight: is the touch pretty responsive?
12:36 AM Crom: real responsive, standing up using it is a bit of fiddle, since contact point isn't where you expect
12:38 AM MrHindsight: let me know if you try Touchegg
12:38 AM Crom: I'll try it right now, bbiab
12:38 AM MrHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Jjf5Ak6Q0
12:39 AM `Wolf: should be a calibrate function somewhere for the touch screen
12:39 AM MrHindsight: no rush, just heading back to my regularly schedules program
12:51 AM Crom: it's going to take a big
12:51 AM Crom: bit
12:52 AM XXCoder: gloops: jack it up?
12:52 AM XXCoder: use thick flameproof clothes and good mask to protect face
12:53 AM XXCoder: or chain lift
12:53 AM MrHindsight: Crom: yeah, when you ever get around to it
12:54 AM gloops: XXCoder but stick welding upside down - never good really
12:54 AM Crom: it'll probably wait until I build the new boxen
12:54 AM gloops: well, mine isnt anyway lol
12:54 AM XXCoder: yeah guessed it was the case. all that splash right? (or sparkles lol)
12:55 AM gloops: the weld is difficult to hold, could like chain tack it maybe
12:56 AM XXCoder: so far all welding I see, guy tacks stuff first
12:56 AM gloops: it will tip over somehow anyway
12:56 AM Crom: gloops: engine stand?
12:57 AM Crom: makes it easy to flip things
12:57 AM XXCoder: or build a rotatary car holder like those guys in motoring obession guys did
12:58 AM XXCoder: those guys is insane and probably unstable too lol
12:58 AM Crom: my brother just picked up a factory mini pickup
12:58 AM gloops: would help yeah, things are getting a bit crammed, the welding will only take 30 minutes i dont really want to start moving a lot of stuff around, and setting things up, ill just tip it over as far as i can get it and blast it
01:00 AM gloops: i stupidly built the table in front of a bandsaw - which will not now pass it to get the bandsaw out lol, so that can come out as well
01:00 AM XXCoder: doctor who might have solution for you
01:01 AM gloops: vertical and upside down stick welding is never good, i havent got the right rods either
01:02 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMT9Ykmneiw it shows the rotatary car holder
01:03 AM Crom: I only have a wirefeed flux core
01:04 AM XXCoder: 4:30 or so they change holder mode to flat to rotatary type
01:04 AM XXCoder: if I recall right they designed that thing
01:05 AM gloops: thats a pretty good device XXCoder heh
01:05 AM XXCoder: yeah onsidering it come from minds of 2 INSANE guys
01:06 AM XXCoder: they are still working on that car after years
01:06 AM XXCoder: it was way past point where people would just scrap it
01:06 AM gloops: thats better than a regular car lift or a pit, you can work on the bottom and you arent working upside down
01:06 AM XXCoder: I predict when they are done, it'd be 10% orginial left lol
01:07 AM gloops: used to see quite a few custom cars totally rebuilt, i think the insurance costs have knocked that particular hobby on the head for most
01:08 AM gloops: saw a beetle with v8 engine, custom chassis wheels, everything, the guy was always pointing out the few remaining areas that were 'real beetle steel' lol
01:08 AM `Wolf: the jig http://badobsessionmotorsport.activeboard.com/t60956809/screen-caps-of-the-jig/ =)
01:09 AM XXCoder: lol
01:09 AM XXCoder: wolf nice
01:09 AM `Wolf: when I saw that I went looking for more info lol
01:09 AM XXCoder: wow sweettart cane is yummy
01:10 AM XXCoder: seems exp 6 is best if you want to see it
01:11 AM gloops: i like how when they lowered the jig onto the beam, the flange had about 8 bolts in it and dropped stright into the holes - mine dont do that lol
01:11 AM `Wolf: at some point I’ll sit down and try to model the thing in cad
01:11 AM gloops: its basically a big A axis Wolf
01:11 AM XXCoder: your holes is bit too tight for it to be stright drop
01:12 AM `Wolf: sorta
01:12 AM gloops: my bolts usually need tapping in
01:12 AM XXCoder: ohh all you need is some decent xyz and you can have huge 4 axis mill
01:13 AM gloops: a servo, like a roller shutter door hoist, you could rotate the car with a button
01:17 AM `Wolf: the real beauty of that thing is the fact that its made all from scrap car parts lol
01:29 AM IchGucksLive: hi from germany
01:29 AM XXCoder: hey
01:30 AM XXCoder: all of it? where did that giant screw come from?
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: China i s always a good bet
01:31 AM `Wolf: all thread
01:31 AM `Wolf: ok maybe not all of the thing
02:13 AM Sabotend_ is now known as Sabotender
02:21 AM Deejay: moin
02:23 AM XXCoder: "this might void the battery" lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At3THa1mrt0
02:35 AM MrHindsight: E wood have made the speaker grill from wood as well
02:35 AM MrHindsight: I even
02:36 AM XXCoder: would it affect sound?
02:38 AM MrHindsight: it coulda woodah sound better maybe
02:39 AM XXCoder: maybe dunno havent heard anything yet in my life heh
02:41 AM MrHindsight: that reminded me of a high end speaker gimmick where they claimed that they machined their enclosures to withing a couple thou
02:42 AM MrHindsight: this was 70's maybe early 80's
02:42 AM MrHindsight: wood shops are pretty crude
02:43 AM XXCoder: tol there is probably .01 in many cases at lowest
02:44 AM XXCoder: I remember that gimmicky speaker that uses small speaker but have long channel to deepen it
02:45 AM archivist: last thing you need in a speaker cabinet is accuracy, as that could cause a larger resonance
02:45 AM gloops: thats something i read a short snippet about archivist, interesting subject
02:45 AM MrHindsight: audio back then was mostly gimmicks
02:46 AM XXCoder: interesting. while I was discussing that sound trick thingy (forgot name) I was wondering if computer could use mike at near output so it could adjust for more accurate sound
02:46 AM MrHindsight: charge $300 more for a stylus that had 3db more separation
02:46 AM archivist: I got a bunch of audio books from a collector, even the one from Warfedale
02:47 AM archivist: XXCoder, they do that
02:47 AM gloops: not speaker cabinets, but how symmetry and regularity can increase resonance
02:47 AM XXCoder: for noise cancellation yeah
02:47 AM MrHindsight: distortions only the ear can hear
02:48 AM archivist: but due to time for sound to travel the response can still have nasty peaks
02:48 AM gloops: intersection of wave peaks?
02:49 AM MrHindsight: http://www.marklevinson.com/
02:50 AM XXCoder: heh would be funny if it was delberately seeking nasty peaks
02:50 AM MrHindsight: http://hifiheaven.net/shop/Oracle-Audio-Delphi-MK-VI-Turntable
02:50 AM XXCoder: just place mike somewhere and...
02:51 AM MrHindsight: I should make a contact free turntable
02:51 AM XXCoder: using camera?
02:51 AM MrHindsight: laser track the tracks
02:51 AM MrHindsight: yeah
02:51 AM XXCoder: I recall one that finally recovered the recordings on wax, because it was literally unplayable
02:51 AM XXCoder: so they finally played sounds
02:52 AM XXCoder: one of earliest recordings (delibrately done anyway)
02:52 AM MrHindsight: or wait, digital vinyl records!!
02:52 AM XXCoder: earliest period was thousands years ago. they used stylus to make nice style of grooves on pots
02:53 AM XXCoder: http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/mythbusters-database/ancient-voices-recorded-into-pottery/
02:53 AM XXCoder: or maybe not
02:53 AM archivist: I have the right bit of audio gear to measure mechanical equipment :)
02:54 AM archivist: I need a vibrator motor though
02:54 AM MrHindsight: MartinLogan CLS
02:54 AM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzd4AVXBP9k could someone listen and say whats going on lol
02:56 AM MrHindsight: https://www.focal.com/en/home-audio/high-fidelity-speakers/utopia-iii/floorstanding-speakers/grande-utopia-em
02:56 AM MrHindsight: ^^ $180k per pair
02:57 AM MrHindsight: XXCoder: makes sounds
02:57 AM XXCoder: sounds like anything?
02:58 AM MrHindsight: ghosts
02:58 AM MrHindsight: you could get sounds off of lots of spinning pottery
03:00 AM XXCoder: yeah if grooves is being made, just curious what was happening around pottery when it was being made.
03:01 AM MrHindsight: drum skin with needle touching pottery
03:01 AM gloops: i wonder if you could make a wooden record with a v bit
03:01 AM MrHindsight: play violin
03:01 AM XXCoder: gloops: I'd guess yes
03:01 AM gloops: and a record player with wooden cogs
03:01 AM archivist: audiophools mainly brag about how much they spent
03:02 AM gloops: could be a saleable novelty
03:02 AM XXCoder: it would take a long while and need duper good resolution
03:02 AM archivist: analogue has infinite resolution
03:03 AM XXCoder: not really
03:03 AM XXCoder: and cnc engraver definitely not
03:03 AM archivist: it also has distortion and bandwidth
03:03 AM MrHindsight: now it's the $400 apple sound bar with 2" speakers
03:03 AM gloops: https://www.wired.com/2013/05/laser-cut-record/ laser cut wooden records, already been done
03:04 AM XXCoder: MrHindsight: materials $1, electrics $20, apple logo $379
03:04 AM Wolfmetalfab is now known as Wolf__
03:06 AM archivist: most expense is the box polish you make it pretty to part you from the money
03:06 AM XXCoder: gloops: fancy
03:06 AM XXCoder: ya know
03:07 AM XXCoder: glass records
03:07 AM XXCoder: engraving with tiny diamond V em
03:08 AM gloops: maybe a project for later heh, much later
03:10 AM XXCoder: I do want to try glass engraving for hell of it.
03:10 AM XXCoder: need to use tons cooling
03:14 AM archivist: when is the empire going to fight back at apple prices
03:15 AM gloops: XXCoder watched a few vids on glass engraving with a router, most make some kind of bath for the glass to sit in, submerged basically
03:15 AM XXCoder: yep saw that also
03:16 AM archivist: leaves a rough surface, will sound terrible
03:16 AM XXCoder: oh I dont plan to engrave for sound
03:16 AM XXCoder: no point for myself lol
03:17 AM gloops: i thought that archivist, you cant really see the finish of the cutting on the glass in the videos, does seem a bit rough from what can be seen
03:17 AM gloops: etching is smooth
03:17 AM gloops: would need several polishing cuts to get good finish
03:23 AM archivist: where I worked we made amplifiers for RR noise dept, they had some sound field telescops to detect where in the engine noises were coming from
03:24 AM gloops: ive got a sophisticated instrument for that - a length of 2 inch pipe lol
03:25 AM archivist: 50 off microphones around the engine on a pylon
03:25 AM gloops: it is surprising though, you say wheres that coming from, lower left hand side, when you isolate it, its rear upper right side
03:26 AM archivist: the other setup had as many mics in an arrays and they flew over it
03:28 AM gloops: if you put your ear against one end of the pipe and move it around, you mainly get the local sound, not the general noise in the engine bay, effective
03:35 AM miss0r: archivist: you around?
03:36 AM archivist: funniest was the Denon network cable for audio $600 ish there were many jokes knocking about, they eventually went quiet stopped selling it by the look of it
03:36 AM XXCoder: hey
03:36 AM miss0r: hey
03:36 AM XXCoder: arch I remember that
03:37 AM XXCoder: laughed my ass off. I wouldnt pay $1 for audo cables, let alone $600
03:37 AM archivist: https://www.cnet.com/news/denons-500-ethernet-cable/
03:37 AM XXCoder: there was another one earlier
03:37 AM XXCoder: not network cable but audo cables
03:38 AM miss0r: archivist: So I finished the design for the edm spindle yesterday: https://imgur.com/a/3dRII
03:38 AM archivist: the speaker cables are still around
03:38 AM XXCoder: looks nice
03:38 AM miss0r: I made my own ER11 collect with a 7mm shank, because the chinesium I had had too much runout
03:39 AM miss0r: and I simplified it: no more nylon bushing on the axle, now the output shaft ist just locked with two 0-rings inside the input shaft - Much better :]
03:39 AM miss0r: s/ist/is
03:39 AM archivist: why are you spinning it when the brass is round anyway
03:40 AM miss0r: Due to material difference, I had uneven wear on the end of the electrode... picture follows
03:41 AM miss0r: Picture added to the imgur link
03:42 AM miss0r: I read about it, something to do with different electrical properties throughout a piece of metal
03:43 AM miss0r: When I have it spinning, I will keep a constant electrode surface - much easier to control
03:44 AM miss0r: Fun fact: The geared motor spinning the shaft, is from a black box on the F-16 fighter jet :)
03:44 AM miss0r: The former owner of my house left alot of fun stuff like that behind :]
03:45 AM archivist: nice
03:46 AM miss0r: meh... Time to do family stuff
03:47 AM XXCoder: interesting
03:47 AM XXCoder: later
04:20 AM XXCoder: ohh https://boingboing.net/2018/01/04/cloggy-nozzles.html
04:44 AM jthornton: morning
04:45 AM XXCoder: yo
05:01 AM gloops: welder cooler break
05:02 AM XXCoder: yay
05:03 AM jthornton: Mailed USPS Priority Mail, usually in tree days or less.
05:04 AM XXCoder: so what is less than tree days? plywood days? ;)
05:04 AM jthornton: http://www.metalscraping.com/w3-Order.html
05:04 AM jthornton: maybe stump days
05:04 AM gloops: i think ive made a giant bell, if you tap it it rings for minutes lol
05:07 AM XXCoder: apparently they made digitial copy of Encyclopædia Britannica
05:07 AM XXCoder: 1911 edition that is.
05:07 AM XXCoder: one of books I read said its the best edition for figuring how to do stuff like build milling so on
05:10 AM phipli: heh. thought I'd messed up the reset circuit on my board... but then realised I'd just overwritten the serial bootloader
05:10 AM jthornton: your having too much fun now
05:11 AM phipli: its ok
05:11 AM phipli: it is my last day of my holiday
05:11 AM phipli: I'll be back to the grind tomorrow
05:11 AM XXCoder: over 8000 pages. one book lol
05:12 AM phipli: are you going to print it?
05:12 AM XXCoder: heck no lol
05:12 AM XXCoder: 29 volumes
05:13 AM phipli: wikipedia with worse search
05:13 AM XXCoder: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encyclop%C3%A6dia_Britannica_Eleventh_Edition#External_links downloadable if wanjt to lol
05:13 AM XXCoder: phipli: not really, indexing was a real art back then, and quite good
05:13 AM phipli: how big is it?
05:13 AM XXCoder: volume 29 is all index
05:13 AM XXCoder: well if they are all as big, then 8000 pages * 29 volumes
05:14 AM XXCoder: bunch of content is outdated im sure
05:14 AM phipli: was thinking in terms of disk space
05:14 AM XXCoder: one volume was 6.8 mb
05:15 AM XXCoder: poctures was bit diffult to do in 1911
05:16 AM phipli: page 705 has pictures
05:16 AM phipli: they tended to put the pictures in clumps in that era of book
05:17 AM phipli: sorry, the page after 704 - which isn't 705 :)
05:17 AM XXCoder: lol
05:17 AM * jthornton needs to move the nest box camera down a bit
05:18 AM * phipli needs to clean out the coop
05:18 AM phipli: and stop getting distracted with electronics
05:19 AM phipli: should probably also kick the missus out of bed as we're heading off in an hour...
05:19 AM * phipli casts around for body armour...
05:19 AM jthornton: I clean the roost box every morning as well as the yard
05:19 AM phipli: tend to do the coop once a week
05:20 AM phipli: the run... is more difficult
05:20 AM phipli: (I have to move the whole thing to a new patch of grass because I can't get inside)
05:20 AM jthornton: I put poop boards under the roosts and use a 12" drywall knife to scoop up the poop
05:20 AM jthornton: takes a minute or two to clean
05:21 AM jthornton: I forget what your coop looks like, got a photo handy
05:24 AM phipli: http://elephantandchicken.co.uk/misc/20170924/index.html
05:26 AM jthornton: ouch I understand now that is hard to clean
05:26 AM jthornton: the hand truck gives it some scale
05:48 AM jthornton: yea warmer temperatures ahead
05:52 AM miss0r: We are looking at -5c the next few days
05:52 AM miss0r: Everything here is frozen over. This is what happens 'round here when the first real frost hits. All the air humidity falls and covers everything(The first time each year is somewhat bad) :)
05:54 AM jthornton: we got down to 1°F the other night
05:55 AM miss0r: damn, thats a cold one
05:55 AM jthornton: or -17°C
05:55 AM miss0r: google beat you to iy
05:55 AM miss0r: it*
05:55 AM gloops: saw some pics from the USA, an icebreaker boat on a river, ice must have been 18 inch thick
05:56 AM miss0r: I'm having an annoying issue with my air to air unit here. It ices over outside :-/
05:56 AM jthornton: but the chicken vertical nipple water bucket did not freeze
05:56 AM miss0r: 50/50 antifreeze & water ? :P
05:56 AM MarcelineVQ: chickenheat
05:58 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/waterer/vert-nipple02.jpg
05:58 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/waterer/vert-nipple03.jpg
05:58 AM jthornton: http://gnipsel.com/images/chickens/waterer/vert-nipple04.jpg
05:58 AM miss0r: smart
05:58 AM jthornton: took a few tries to get it right
06:08 AM archivist: miss0r, I am thinking of a wood fire outside under the aircon :)
06:10 AM jthornton: I've started a fire under a tractor a few times to crank the engine in freezing weather
06:13 AM archivist: wood fire with a heat exchanger in the chimney feeding the aircon being better idea
06:14 AM miss0r: archivist: yeah hehe. I spoke to the company I bought the unit from(still under warranty), they tell me it is probably caused by poor pressure in the heat exchange circuit. So They recommended me getting someone to come take a look at topping it off
06:15 AM archivist: mine defrosts a few times a day, I would have though that was plain normal with a cold inlet
06:15 AM MarcelineVQ: under warranty, tells you to get someone else to have a look, sounds about right these days
06:16 AM miss0r: archivist: The problem is, mine does not properly defrost. It builds up until it blocks the fan, and the units shuts down
06:17 AM miss0r: MarcelineVQ: Its more complicated than that. I bought it through the electrician company I work at. So if I were a normal client of the electrician company, I would call them, and have them determin if it was a factory fault or installation fault.
06:17 AM miss0r: And since I installed it myself, the task lies with me
06:20 AM archivist: mine defrosts ok, 4.2 outside at the moment, probably ok for the rest of the day
06:21 AM MarcelineVQ: interestin
06:21 AM archivist: has one of the sensors got knocked during installation
06:22 AM archivist: its blowing 21 inside :)
06:22 AM miss0r: Nope. everything looks good. And it 'should' be good. I just need to bring on home our vacuum & measurement kit from the firm. Then I can verify that the installation went as descriped. and THEN I can call them and have them send me a new one
06:23 AM gloops: step 786 on the router nearly done..
06:24 AM miss0r: woah... Everyone knows step 786 is a major milestone in any build :
06:25 AM miss0r: enoygh bull shit from me today. I have to get going - I have a birthday to attend to. See you around
06:26 AM gloops: lost interest in the making of it now, just want to get it running, pissed of not because it isnt finished, but because i missed the target time, should be running now and running into other jobs again, 1 more week at max
06:27 AM archivist: I wonder how long it takes to notice step 420 was skipped :)
06:28 AM gloops: there are still the odd holes to drill here and there, bits and bobs like that, but i cant think of anything major ive missed
06:29 AM gloops: if there is any problem with the pulleys i wont spend long on them at this point, go straight to direct coupling the motors - although again that means more metalwork
06:29 AM gloops: might get it reassembled tommorrow ready for motors
06:41 AM archivist: phipli, I found the low cost answer for my local egg producer http://www.rubberstampking.co.uk/EGG-MARKING-RUBBER-STAMP-AND-INK-PAD-14MM-Diameter-Custom-Made-Red-Brown-or-Black-Ink_p_660.html
06:43 AM MarcelineVQ: what did they need egg markings for?
06:43 AM archivist: traceability
06:44 AM archivist: to know what producer/farm so they can shut down in case of food poisoning
07:11 AM uwe__ is now known as uwe_
07:44 AM Tom_L: oh wow 43F already
07:45 AM jthornton: nice, we won't see that till tomorrow
07:45 AM Tom_L: but
07:45 AM Tom_L: that's also the high for today
07:50 AM jym: And for our next trick... We'll turn Tom_L into a pineapple flavored popsicle!!!! (minus the pineapple flavor) s/Mother Nature/
07:53 AM `Wolf: DRO installs are fun… =X almost… https://i.imgur.com/RQJrIWW.jpg
07:54 AM jthornton: yea trying to get something flat and parallel on a round cast surface can be fun
07:55 AM archivist: that bit of angle reminds me of my hobbing machine mod
07:56 AM `Wolf: it was quite fun figuring that axis out lol https://i.imgur.com/0CawFmP.jpg
07:58 AM `Wolf: of course I couldn’t mount to the other side because the X power feed only has 1/2” between it and the knee casting
07:58 AM MarcelineVQ: beefy limit switch housing
08:00 AM `Wolf: this is what I would call a heavy light weight machine lol
08:02 AM `Wolf: I am annoyed that the manual for the mill shows a spindle brake but this one of course doesn’t have one, and no reverse on the head either
08:05 AM jym: Wolf__: Reverse? Oh That's easy... just turn it upside down <silly noob>
08:05 AM MarcelineVQ: :D
08:05 AM `Wolf: =D yeah
08:06 AM archivist: move to AU
08:06 AM jym: Then you can have a nice xmas BBQ'ing
08:07 AM `Wolf: would be warmer… 3°F this am here
08:14 AM `Wolf: I do know the next upgrade this thing is getting in a one shot oiler
08:14 AM Tom_L: ok i asked this yesterday but i'll try again. is there a way to turn off the messages on the lower right of the axis screen? the "I" messages...
08:14 AM gloops: a 1kg hammer produces massive torque, possibly 20 tonnes on impact
08:14 AM Tom_L: not the error ones
08:15 AM `Wolf: in/is
08:20 AM `Wolf: anyone here ever seen/used a glacern vice?
08:21 AM archivist: seen the odd mention, that is all
08:21 AM jthornton: I have one
08:21 AM `Wolf: I haven’t seen anything bad yet
08:25 AM `Wolf: I think first I need to make up my mind what size vice to get for this mill
08:26 AM `Wolf: which one do you have jt?
08:27 AM jthornton: https://www.glacern.com/gsv_690
08:28 AM jthornton: wished I had two of these https://www.glacern.com/gpv_615
08:28 AM `Wolf: heh yeah, $$$
08:28 AM jthornton: yea
08:29 AM `Wolf: less spendy vs the kurt version tho
08:29 AM `Wolf: I was thinking the GSV-550 or GPV-412

09:23 AM IchGucksLive: snow in spain so many trapped in cars
09:26 AM jym: IchGucksLive: What, it doesn't normally snow in spain?
09:26 AM IchGucksLive: not there
09:28 AM jym: IchGucksLive: Ah. When I lived in the high desert, ppl would drive thru flooded out roads, not realizing how deep or how fast the water was rushing. They would be trapped on the roof of their car. Started carrying rope and a harness to at least allow them to get out of the water safely.
09:29 AM IchGucksLive: the most deth in Death Valey is Food related as it is the dryest place in the US :P
09:29 AM jym: Not food, water =)
09:31 AM jym: RULES OF THREE: You can survive: 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without heat, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food, and 3 months without sex ;)
09:34 AM jdh: does that last one specify "with someone else"?
09:35 AM jym: jdh: sadly... no =(
09:37 AM jym: WATER: One gallon per person per day is the rule. Excluding cleaning or other purposes.
09:39 AM jym: Murphy's law says shit will always happen on a 4 day weekend, so prep for 96 hours isn't a bad thing.
09:41 AM IchGucksLive: the A380 calculates on 3Liters per person
09:42 AM jym: Eh, one gallon == 3.8 liters
09:43 AM Rab: IchGucksLive, is that drinking water, or toilet water?
09:43 AM IchGucksLive: Joking or
09:44 AM IchGucksLive: do you think they take rainwater
09:44 AM jym: Rab: It could be the tank toilet water, not necessarily the bowl.
09:45 AM Rab: IchGucksLive, are you talking about the Airbus A380, or something else?
09:45 AM IchGucksLive: yes
09:46 AM Rab: I guess lavatory water would be more accurate than toilet water.
09:46 AM gloops: its all h2o
09:48 AM jym: gloops: If it was JUST h2o, then no probelm, it's the critters IN the h2o you gotta be concerned with =)
09:48 AM Tom_L: mmm food too
09:49 AM gloops: water purification tabs - alex jones website
09:49 AM gloops: i see you arent ready for the coming apocalypse jym
09:50 AM IchGucksLive: as there are 2 showers onboard for 1st class i think its for the BASment Concrete class
09:50 AM jym: gloops: Great, awesome, you have water tablet good for one liter of water, you have 20 tablets, then what?
09:51 AM Tom_L: by then you've figured out how to boil water
09:51 AM IchGucksLive: uploading Video
09:51 AM gloops: yes you use the time to make a fire
09:51 AM jym: Tom_L: But there is four people and only one brought tablets (murphys law)
09:51 AM gloops: but not in an exposed place and no smoke - otherwise the marauding gangs of cannibals will see your location
09:51 AM Tom_L: so they're just SOL
09:52 AM jym: Eh, my water filter is good for 100,000 gallons, I'm good to go =)
09:54 AM jym: Have LOTS of streams, rivers, and lakes here, but the deer, bears, and lions piss/shit in it, so there's Cryptosporidium and Giardia in he water. Always carry the filter with me
09:56 AM gloops: theres a natural spring in our village, i bet hardly anyone would realise its importance if the shtf
09:56 AM IchGucksLive: https://youtu.be/pHnmHfKZnsc CAN Someone check if it sounds not to german
09:56 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: today about 1k persons visited the Locel warerfall
09:57 AM IchGucksLive: its only a rear event only after a long hard Rain period seen 5meters only
09:57 AM gloops: thats clear to me Ichs
09:57 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
09:57 AM gloops: ill be watching those soon
09:58 AM IchGucksLive: im off Coffee break grandchilds are on the CNC
09:58 AM Rab: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/29/dining/raw-water-unfiltered.html
10:13 AM gloops: think ive got a tin of practical joke paint, it never dried
10:13 AM gloops: dries
10:14 AM archivist: too cold and damp?
10:14 AM Tom_L: sure it doesn't require a chemical catalyst?
10:15 AM gloops: that probably doesnt help, the other paints ive used have dried though
10:15 AM gloops: no its very cheap for wrought iron gates
10:15 AM archivist: anti climb paint
10:16 AM gloops: lol, hey...
10:18 AM archivist: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-climb_paint
10:19 AM gloops: yes that sounds like this
10:19 AM gloops: thick oily smooth gloss finish
10:19 AM archivist: now read the tin instructions!
10:20 AM gloops: always check the label..
10:22 AM gloops: nah dont think it is that, just a pic of a gate, its dried a bit but still sticky, 2 days
10:23 AM archivist: some paints were very slow drying when cold
10:24 AM gloops: it does seem oil based, smells oily
10:24 AM archivist: thing that amused me, is adding "driers" to paint
10:24 AM MarcelineVQ: most paints I've seen get exponentially slower to dry as the temp drops, where even curing at 12 degrees instead of 18 is a day of waiting
10:25 AM MarcelineVQ: *extra day
10:25 AM archivist: driers=thinners =thin coat= faster drying
10:26 AM archivist: https://www.brewers.co.uk/product/BN46053Q05
10:28 AM dioz: sup archivist
10:28 AM dioz: someone teach me to fusion 360
10:28 AM MarcelineVQ: doesn't faster dry translate to worse finish and more sanding anyway? I've heard that at least
10:28 AM `Wolf: f360, thats easy, youtube
10:29 AM MarcelineVQ: dioz: there's a lot of really good tutortials online that are easy to find, have a youtube search for learn fusion or die trying
10:29 AM archivist: for paint, follow the instructions!
10:29 AM dioz: k
10:29 AM dioz: MarcelineVQ, `Wolf: should one pay for cad learning(s) ?
10:29 AM gloops: ive got an old fan heater somewhere i might put that on it for a couple of hours
10:30 AM MarcelineVQ: Not unless you're paying for cad software, or to put it another way, you should only pay for lessons if it's costing you to not know what you're doing
10:30 AM `Wolf: someone talk me in/out of ordering a $600 vice… https://www.glacern.com/gpv_412 or should I just buy the somewhat normal 5” https://www.glacern.com/gsv_550 ....
10:30 AM MarcelineVQ: That's not a general thing you cank apply anywhere but cad is pretty easy to pick up
10:31 AM `Wolf: only way I would pay for training is if I know getting a job doing it depended on it (and job is a sure thing)
10:33 AM archivist: get the job let them pay for the training
10:33 AM `Wolf: or that ^
10:46 AM gloops: depending how much spare time you have, and apply, freecad takes a month to get proficient with
10:46 AM gloops: you can take that to fusion 360 and other cad apps
10:51 AM `Wolf: surprising, no one wants to help spend my $$$? lol
10:52 AM dioz: `Wolf: buy an old vise and restore it
10:52 AM MrHindsight: please don't drop it on your foot
10:52 AM dioz: IMO
10:52 AM dioz: i'm not a fan of the new vises
10:52 AM dioz: they aren't built like they used to be
10:52 AM MrHindsight: whatever you decide to buy
10:52 AM `Wolf: lol thx MrHindsight
10:53 AM `Wolf: I think mostly I’m worried that I’ll get the 4” then be wishing I got bigger
10:53 AM `Wolf: or the other way around, get a 6” and realize its too damn big for this mill
10:53 AM dioz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn2ld4uecFY <-- vise restore
10:54 AM MarcelineVQ: but is it too damn big for your next mill..
10:54 AM `Wolf: * mill vice not a bench vice
10:54 AM dioz: oooh
10:55 AM `Wolf: for bench vices I totally agree with that route lol
10:56 AM dioz: i just was trying to save your wallet
10:56 AM dioz: cause finding an old vise is way easier than an expsensive one
10:56 AM dioz: but you're talking about a mill vise
10:56 AM dioz: i'm USELESS
10:56 AM * dioz cries
10:58 AM `Wolf: this mill has a 7”/180mm table and 7.25”/184mm Y travel…
11:00 AM archivist: you need one of each size
11:00 AM dioz: you need duplicates too
11:00 AM dioz: 2 x of each
11:00 AM `Wolf: just fill the table up with https://www.glacern.com/gdv_620fe right?
11:04 AM dioz: i see no problem with that
11:04 AM `Wolf: I’m leaning more towards the expense ass 4” just because it looks like it would be a better fit for this size mill, plus you can do odd setups with it like putting it on its side
11:27 AM Tom_itx: are shars vises as good as kurt?
11:28 AM `Wolf: china import vs us made… doubtful
11:29 AM `Wolf: but the price difference is huge between them also
11:29 AM dioz: did you hear about what the chinese have been doing with the honey?
11:29 AM `Wolf: nope
11:29 AM dioz: chinese honey imports usually have additives to increase volume
11:30 AM dioz: yankee government has been trying to clamp down on it for the past few years
11:30 AM dioz: but it's a cat and mouse game
11:30 AM Tom_itx: mix it with motor oil?
11:30 AM dioz: mix it with corn syrup or things of that sort
11:30 AM MarcelineVQ: corn syrup mostly :> not that us outfits don't do that too
11:30 AM dioz: it isn't "pure" honey
11:33 AM dioz: i need a band cut off saw
11:33 AM dioz: cut off band saw?
11:33 AM dioz: idk wtf they're called
11:33 AM `Wolf: I attempt to stay away from made in china stuff, but not much choice on some things
11:33 AM `Wolf: horizontal band saw?
11:33 AM gloops: metal cutting bandsaw?
11:34 AM dioz: they seem to do a better cut than an abrasive disk cut off saw
11:34 AM dioz: IMO
11:34 AM dioz: the big "chop saws" or whatever they're called
11:34 AM `Wolf: very much so
11:34 AM Crom: Porter Cable has the Portaband
11:35 AM `Wolf: ^ portaband ftw for home shop gamers
11:35 AM Crom: Or are you talking the metal cutting circular saw using carbide blades
11:35 AM MarcelineVQ: dioz: big chop saw? cold/dry cut saws?
11:35 AM dioz: idk. they just use the big round abrasive disks
11:35 AM dioz: we use 'em to cut strut and rod and black iron
11:35 AM gloops: cut off saw
11:35 AM MarcelineVQ: abrasive cut off saws
11:36 AM `Wolf: shitty saw
11:36 AM MarcelineVQ: bandsaw is preferrable at home if you have the space, abrasive saws make a hell of a mess
11:36 AM dioz: thing is a lot of jobs are starting to go to "no spark" options
11:36 AM dioz: they don't want anything that causes sparks
11:36 AM dioz: so i've had to start cutting strut and rod with a portable band saw
11:36 AM MarcelineVQ: worry more about what's in the air when you're using an abrasive saw in a shop than the sparks it's causing
11:36 AM dioz: but bigger things i still use a zip disk or chop saw
11:37 AM gloops: i had a sore throat for 2 weeks cutting steel in the garage
11:37 AM dioz: i bang tin professionaly
11:37 AM dioz: black iron, galv iron, etc.
11:37 AM dioz: satin coat
11:37 AM gloops: band de tin?
11:38 AM dioz: our safety guys have even started complaining about ear protection
11:38 AM dioz: i've been making noise for years with no problems
11:38 AM dioz: new government initiative
11:38 AM dioz: i get hastled bad about it now
11:38 AM gloops: for your own good
11:38 AM Tom_itx: osha would agree with them too
11:38 AM gloops: you dont notice it now, you will when youre 50 and you get a ringing in your eyes that cant be stopped
11:38 AM dioz: it was my future plan for being able to get away with not listening to the old lady
11:38 AM dioz: FOILED
11:39 AM gloops: i mean your ears
11:39 AM `Wolf: just keep using ear plugs
11:39 AM dioz: when she talks?
11:39 AM dioz: i guess so....
11:39 AM gloops: tinitus
11:39 AM Tom_itx: be glad you still got your hearing
11:39 AM Tom_itx: and take care of it
11:41 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
11:41 AM IchGucksLive: ho
11:41 AM dioz: yah. i've been meaning to invest in some good ear muffs
11:41 AM Tom_L: IchGucksLive it's raining here too
11:41 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
11:41 AM MarcelineVQ: ear muffs are good for general work, nothing beats plugs for the real loud shit though
11:41 AM Tom_L: drizzle
11:41 AM Tom_L: it doesn't want to commit
11:41 AM `Wolf: ear plugs are good, sure fire ear defenders and walker electronic ear plugs are my go to for my really loud hobby
11:42 AM MarcelineVQ: is that latter one noise canceling plugs?
11:42 AM `Wolf: yeah
11:43 AM MarcelineVQ: neato didn't know they had that, shouldnt be surprised of course as earbuds have had that for awhile now
11:43 AM `Wolf: 31 db reduction but has individual mics on each ear piece so you still have directional hearing
11:55 AM gloops: https://thecaveuk.co.uk/collections/industrial/products/metal-cog-clock
11:55 AM dioz: `Wolf: walker electronic ear plugs?
11:55 AM dioz: are they noise cancelling or something?
11:56 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: lots of work
11:56 AM MarcelineVQ: quick work for a cnc plasma table
11:57 AM IchGucksLive: agree
11:57 AM gloops: yeah i thought that would be really quick, not real gears
11:57 AM `Wolf: http://www.gsmoutdoors.com/shopping/walkers/earbud-headsets.aspx dioz
11:58 AM dioz: they play music too?
11:58 AM dioz: how long does the battery last?
11:58 AM archivist: the real thing is a skeleton clock
11:59 AM `Wolf: not very long w/ the bluetooth
12:00 PM gloops: https://thecaveuk.co.uk/collections/industrial/products/handmade-parts-robot
12:00 PM dioz: i've always wondered to what extent... noise cancelling headphones could double as "ear protection"
12:00 PM dioz: i work in noisey environments
12:00 PM IchGucksLive: Wolf_ BT can reatch 100m
12:01 PM `Wolf: battery life + its low energy BT
12:20 PM thochguertel: can LinuxCNC roate (tend) the spindle?
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: the Tool spindle
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: or a Latehe Spindle
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: Ah ein deutscher
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: Servus th
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: thochguertel: es ginge auhc in deutsch
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: du meinst bestimmt orientiert für Werkzeugwechsel
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: M19
12:23 PM thochguertel: hmm
12:31 PM gloops: router spindle?
12:31 PM phipli: archivist, interesting
12:32 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: 6axis he means
12:32 PM phipli: currently all we do is (for ourselves and friends) is write the date they were laid on them
12:32 PM gloops: oh i see
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_home:
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: ive heard somthing on Europ direct service
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: can i get more info on that
12:58 PM gloops: might be a use for the old bike chains ive got - it makes pretty damascus steel https://i.pinimg.com/736x/50/f3/cb/50f3cba47486e1eaef561f2fad5354fa.jpg
01:23 PM thochguertel: Danke an IchGucksLive.
01:38 PM fragalot: Hi
01:39 PM miss0r: hello fragalot. I just did a sucessfull test of the EDM electrode spindle! :D
01:39 PM miss0r: i'm uploading a video as we speak
01:40 PM fragalot: Sweet
01:40 PM gregcnc_: oh cool, did you break a tap jus tto test it? ;P
01:44 PM miss0r: no :] but I did find that my seals were not very effective... I had to think fast to save the bearings :D
01:44 PM gregcnc_: orings?
01:45 PM miss0r: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BrbwNgFe8D2m1Dmtb2OdeaanEL2sRaFV/view?usp=sharing
01:45 PM Connor: `Wolf: Tom_ There was a video going around talking about how the Glacern CNC Vise was a Shars Vice, repainted. after watching the video, I kind think it was true.. or at least true as of the time the video was made..
01:45 PM miss0r: no. Shaft seals.
01:45 PM Connor: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=66tbgzJeCQQ
01:46 PM miss0r: I hope you can see the video - I have to run. The misses needs my presence
01:46 PM miss0r: See you around
01:46 PM gregcnc_: works
01:59 PM skunkworks_: looks famillar
02:01 PM skunkworks_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4Jj9AYZM0w
02:29 PM gloops: the threading vid after looks ok, what does 'index only' refer to skunkworks?
02:38 PM MarcelineVQ: sure takes the monotony out of it
02:38 PM MarcelineVQ: especially if you put a mister on it so you don't need to apply juice
02:44 PM JT-Shop: skunkworks_: are you around?
02:45 PM skunkworks_: yes
02:46 PM JT-Shop: do you have the order of the functions for the plasma handy?
02:51 PM skunkworks_: hold on
02:54 PM skunkworks_: JT-Shop, https://pastebin.com/BAeZcp5g
02:59 PM JT-Shop: skunkworks_: thanks!
02:59 PM skunkworks_: I don't know if that is 100% correct - but is working pretty good.
02:59 PM JT-Shop: cool, how did you ever figure that out?
02:59 PM skunkworks_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOg5C_TusdM
03:00 PM skunkworks_: luck? persistence?
03:01 PM skunkworks_: I still have not gotten something working in eoffset branch yet,.
03:01 PM JT-Shop: which THCAD card are you using?
03:01 PM skunkworks_: -10
03:02 PM JT-Shop: do you have the scale.0 and scale.1 numbers?
03:02 PM JT-Shop: me too
03:03 PM skunkworks_: it is a hypertherm - 0-7v - peter thought it might help to remove 1/2 of the input resistors to make the -10 a -5
03:03 PM skunkworks_: so I shorted out the one side. it seemed to help the noise
03:03 PM skunkworks_: yes - hold on
03:03 PM skunkworks_: I don't think it is exact yet -
03:04 PM skunkworks_: #mesa down to 5v full scale for better resolution
03:04 PM skunkworks_: setp scale.0.gain .0377492037
03:04 PM skunkworks_: setp scale.0.offset -34.5641146632
03:05 PM skunkworks_: JT-Shop, the thc-10 is also set to the highest divider
03:05 PM JT-Shop: my hypertherm is full voltage and I have resistors IIRC to bring it down to 0-10 I'll have to check my notes
03:06 PM skunkworks_: yes - you might have to scale it for your system - I would just try it as you have it.
03:06 PM JT-Shop: ok thanks for the help
03:06 PM * JT-Shop goes back to making a roll out nest box Mk2
03:06 PM skunkworks_: JT-Shop, http://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/testing/plasma/plasmalatest.png
03:07 PM skunkworks_: that is the basic hal layout I am currently using
03:07 PM skunkworks_: I don't remember if you had that
03:07 PM JT-Shop: thanks
03:07 PM JT-Shop: no, not seen that yet
03:07 PM skunkworks_: (and some hal stuff for corner locking)
03:08 PM skunkworks_: http://electronicsam.com/images/KandT/testing/plasma/corrugated.png
03:08 PM skunkworks_: you can see the corner locking in the middle of the halscope
03:08 PM skunkworks_: (that is one of the corrugated runs)
03:08 PM JT-Shop: are you using requested velocity and actual for corner lock?
03:09 PM skunkworks_: yes
03:09 PM skunkworks_: currently
03:09 PM skunkworks_: from motion
03:09 PM skunkworks_: (pretty basic so far)
03:09 PM skunkworks_: I am using your touchoff sub
03:09 PM JT-Shop: cool
03:10 PM skunkworks_: I think there is issues with fo or somthing but I have not tested it yet - just from forum posts
03:10 PM JT-Shop: did you post this on the forum?
03:11 PM skunkworks_: a little bit in a few forums
03:11 PM skunkworks_: It would be cool if people could test it a little bit.
03:11 PM skunkworks_: but I don't really trust the config yet
03:12 PM JT-Shop: I have a floating torch holder so I can't break it lol
03:13 PM skunkworks_: I have not broke the torch yet - I need to make it break away - have not did that yet
03:13 PM skunkworks_: it is pretty responisve - it will dig the torch into the table very quickly ;)
03:14 PM JT-Shop: mine will just float up till the low Z limit is tripped
03:14 PM skunkworks_: so there needs to be like max/min torch voltage so it doesn't do that.
03:14 PM skunkworks_: well - if I had the touchoff switch hooked to estop - mine would too
03:14 PM skunkworks_: ;)
03:14 PM skunkworks_: like I say - this is just a basic proof of concept. But looks promicing
03:14 PM skunkworks_: promising..
03:15 PM JT-Shop: the probe switch is separate from the limits
03:15 PM skunkworks_: sure - but it could do both
03:15 PM JT-Shop: http://gnipsel.com/shop/plasma/z-axis-02.xhtml
03:16 PM JT-Shop: upper switch is my home/limit lower is for probe only
03:18 PM skunkworks_: http://electronicsam.com/images/matsuura/20180107_151652.jpg
03:18 PM skunkworks_: limit switch is only at the top currently (not in the picture)
03:19 PM skunkworks_: got to go
03:19 PM skunkworks_: bbl
03:44 PM gloops: Rivers in Chicago FREEZE as temperatures drop to -50C
03:45 PM gloops: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/rivers-chicago-freeze-temperatures-drop-11814377
03:47 PM Cromaglious__: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EzRouter-Scorpion-5-X-10-220-Volt-Single-Phase-Router/292399421069?hash=item44145d168d:g:NdUAAOSwdjdaCKX0
03:47 PM Cromaglious__: Someone needs to get on that..
03:47 PM MrHindsight: gloops: way up to -1C today
03:47 PM MrHindsight: >0C later today
03:48 PM gloops: -50c over a prolonged spell would have been pretty serious
03:48 PM gloops: Cromaglius wish it was near me
03:49 PM roycroft: awesome
03:49 PM roycroft: i thought i screwed up my router table top
03:50 PM MrHindsight: we spent most of the past 1-2 weeks -20C to - 10C, not too bad
03:50 PM roycroft: after sandwiching the pieces together i discovered there was not quite enough clearance in the opening to trim the plastic laminate with a standard laminate trimmer bit
03:50 PM MrHindsight: -50C was the wind chill
03:50 PM roycroft: i thought i was going to have to try to align the template and use a template bit
03:50 PM roycroft: aligning the template perfectly would have been very difficult
03:50 PM roycroft: but after applying the laminate, i found that the trimmer bit had about 0.005" clearance!
03:50 PM MrHindsight: gloops: feels like you pressed you face into a belt sander if you walked into the wind
03:51 PM gloops: MrHindsight can almost imagine, ive never been in -50 though
03:51 PM roycroft: the bearing holder bolt rubbed against the metal support in a couple places, but i'd rather touch up some spray paint than try to align a template
03:52 PM * roycroft likes when major problems turn out not to be so
03:53 PM Deejay: gn8
03:54 PM MrHindsight: gloops: only took me 2 days or so to adjust, heading out now before it's dark again
03:56 PM gloops: well, simple things like though - going out after dark when the temperatures plummet - life and death matter in siberia
03:56 PM gloops: there are no homeless people, if you lose your keys, you die
04:07 PM dioz: hah
04:07 PM dioz: almost spilled that the wife was pregnant to my parents
04:07 PM dioz: WOOPS
04:10 PM gloops: is that not good news dioz?
04:12 PM SpeedEvil: Depends if it's the right wife.
04:13 PM dioz: no it's great
04:13 PM dioz: she just doesn't wanna tell anyone for the time being
04:13 PM dioz: well... she's told a few people
04:14 PM dioz: she says the baby could still self abort
04:14 PM dioz: so she wants to wait for a certain amount of time
04:14 PM dioz: what do you guys think of nissan titans?
04:14 PM dioz: or toyota tundras?
04:15 PM dioz: i think i wanna buy a new-to-me truck
04:15 PM dioz: was looking at fords but the year within the price range i want is the 5.4
04:15 PM dioz: and i've heard the 5.4 has a lot of issues
04:16 PM dioz: tops i'd spend is $15k
04:20 PM dioz: `Wolf:
04:22 PM dioz: do you use these razor headphones?
04:29 PM gloops: well, my plans to dominate woodworking in the northern hemisphere moved one step closer today
04:29 PM gloops: T-6 days and counting
04:45 PM gloops: ‘Freeze skin in a couple of minutes’ Wind chill to make US FREEZE in -100F temperatures http://bit.ly/2F3uvyV
04:47 PM MarcelineVQ: you don't need wind to freeze at -100 :>
04:47 PM MarcelineVQ: ah it's one of those adjusted temps is it, those are so weird
04:48 PM gloops: still pretty chilly
05:33 PM Cromaglious__: Hmm on ebay I'm not seeing any 6090 mechanical only printers
05:42 PM XXCoder: MarcelineVQ: not adjust, its basically "how we would feel it to be". -10f temeprate with -50f wind chill would give us frostbite like weather was actually -50f, that is, in minutes
05:43 PM XXCoder: wind chill can be killer even in temeprates we can normally stand just fine
05:46 PM SpeedEvil: wind chill on bare skin.
05:47 PM SpeedEvil: And to be fair, if you're in -50F with bare skin, you pretty much deserve to die.
05:48 PM XXCoder: no shit heh
05:50 PM archivist: people who believe wind chill is a real temperature also deserve the same fate
05:50 PM XXCoder: who said that?
05:51 PM archivist: met them in the flesh also see news reports
06:07 PM XXCoder: new robrenz video
06:23 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPhzp-OG67s
06:32 PM XXCoder: 3 points of support for surface. interesting
06:36 PM * Jymmm found the root cause of the OSX "1984" bug if anyone gives a crap =)
06:36 PM XXCoder: do anyone else here know what "1984" bug is?
06:36 PM Jymmm: Only Andy might care I think
06:37 PM * Jymmm doesn't keep track of who uses OSX or not
06:37 PM Jymmm: ...on here
06:37 PM Jymmm: Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music
06:37 PM XXCoder: lol well at same time caring or not caring requires knowledge of specific topic
06:38 PM Jymmm: XXCoder: Gawd, you are such a biotch <rolls eyes> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7532389
06:39 PM XXCoder: "Incomplete downloads in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion show a "Date Modified" of Jan. 24, 1984, a reference to the day when Apple's very first Macintosh was unveiled by Steve Jobs."
06:41 PM Jymmm: XXCoder: It seems that if files/folder on the local FS are cmhod anything but 777, then copy/moved to an ext FS/drive it mucks with their attributes making them unavailable
06:42 PM XXCoder: interesting
06:42 PM Jymmm: XXCoder: ...and changes the dates on ALL those files to Jan 1984
06:43 PM XXCoder: geez! i wonder if can't read date so defualt to jan 24 1984
06:43 PM Jymmm: XXCoder: So I've had to delete 13Gb of files, chmod, then copy them back over
06:44 PM Jymmm: But, FreeBSD (on the NAS) doens't like wildcards too much, so making it difficult to delete specifics files, and not sub directory files too =)
06:45 PM XXCoder: heh gonna love files like funfile* and * . ..
06:46 PM Jymmm: XXCoder: luckily enough I have a web interface too, so made it "safer"
06:46 PM XXCoder: I still remember the first time I acciently made file named *
06:47 PM Jymmm: OUCH
06:47 PM XXCoder: took me a bit to find a way to delete it and not all files
06:48 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.facebook.com/SpaceX/videos/10160360242935131/ Space X launch in approx 15 minutes love night launches here in South Florida :)
06:49 PM XXCoder: in least I never did rm -rf . /
06:49 PM XXCoder: almost did it twice but thankfully I always reread when I do rm -rf
06:51 PM SpeedEvil: BeachBumPete: awesome if they launch into the light
06:51 PM SpeedEvil: BeachBumPete: not so much for florida though
06:51 PM Cromaglious__: sudo rm -rf / is fun
06:52 PM XXCoder: Cromaglious__: its expecially fun with . /
06:52 PM XXCoder: olviously intending to just delete all of working directory.
06:52 PM XXCoder: *files in
06:52 PM Cromaglious__: delete current tree then start from root?
06:52 PM BeachBumPete: SpeedEvil how ya figure? Night launches are really cool I think
06:52 PM XXCoder: yep
06:52 PM Cromaglious__: finally dropped to 69F
06:53 PM XXCoder: its easier since ./ is more common, so all you need to is acciently press space acciently between . and /.
06:53 PM SpeedEvil: BeachBumPete: If the vehicle goes into the light with the launch in darkness, you get stuff like this:
06:53 PM SpeedEvil: https://cdn.theatlantic.com/assets/media/img/mt/2017/12/RTX3XLAU/lead_960.jpg?1514312131
06:53 PM Cromaglious__: and freak every one out
06:54 PM BeachBumPete: Oh yeah my son witnessed that last week or so out in Cali. Still we are really looking forward to the Falcon Heavy Launch later on this month. MIGHT even visit the cape for that historic launch...
06:54 PM SpeedEvil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU5KpfOT-_Y - video of launch a couple of weeks ago
06:54 PM SpeedEvil: :)
06:55 PM BeachBumPete: I will have to watch that later I don't want to loose the live feed right now we gotta be able to run outside when its off
06:56 PM BeachBumPete: its still sort of cold here so don't feel like just sitting in the lawn chairs until it goes off
06:56 PM SpeedEvil: :)
06:56 PM SpeedEvil: Good luck
06:56 PM BeachBumPete: this one is going to land back at the cape not on the floating barge of course I still love you LOL
06:57 PM XXCoder: lol
06:57 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PWu3BRxn60 if no facebook
06:58 PM XXCoder: I like my yt setup better than fb
06:58 PM Cromaglious__: grrr not finding mechanical kits for 6090's on ebay, aliexpress it's all complete machines
06:58 PM XXCoder: Cromaglious__: banggood?
06:59 PM XXCoder: that site is like aliexpress but more cnc stuff and electrics
07:00 PM BeachBumPete: go for launch
07:01 PM XXCoder: 6//5//4..
07:02 PM thochguertel_ is now known as thochguertel
07:07 PM XXCoder: just wish it was live captioned also
07:07 PM XXCoder: but its so rare
07:09 PM XXCoder: nice!!!
07:10 PM Cromaglious__: Nice, I'll be getting three of these https://www.banggood.com/Nema-23-Stepper-Motor-Aluminum-Mount-Clamp-Bracket-For-CNC-Engraving-Machine-p-1107769.html?rmmds=buy
07:13 PM BeachBumPete: successful landing AGAIN
07:14 PM XXCoder: yeah banggood is pretty decent for cnc parts
07:14 PM XXCoder: Cromaglious__: lol thats what I bouyght!
07:14 PM XXCoder: its on my machine now
07:15 PM XXCoder: crom you might want to buy replacement bolts, ones that come with mine was sucky
07:16 PM Cromaglious__: I already have replacement bolts 12.9's not the crap 10.9's
07:16 PM XXCoder: cool
07:20 PM XXCoder: anyway its bit round on outsides. I guess they just milled stuff inside and holes, top and bottom
07:20 PM XXCoder: super cheap
07:21 PM XXCoder: but then its chunky alum mount for 10 bucks. (I got em for 6 bucks coupel years ago)
07:30 PM XXCoder: lol "Realacc Strange Third Hand Three Arms Aluminum Alloy CNC Soldering Station for RC Drone"
07:53 PM Cromaglious__: I don't have chunky AL, I have 1/2" x 4" AL bar
07:54 PM Cromaglious__: I'll be making NEMA24 mounts out of that
07:55 PM Jymmm: Ain't nuttin but a gangsta party….
09:05 PM XXCoder: bleh my wifi dongle is dying
09:05 PM XXCoder: time to buy another $2 one lol
09:06 PM Jymmm: Might be cheaper to buy a brand new laptop
09:06 PM XXCoder: laptop?
09:07 PM XXCoder: my laptop wireless works fine.
09:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/X_Axis_limit1.jpg
09:07 PM Tom_L: started mounting limit switches
09:08 PM XXCoder: man
09:08 PM XXCoder: I suck on engineering lol
09:08 PM Tom_L: need longer screws then i'll put that spacer in
09:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/X_Axis_limit_stops.jpg
09:13 PM XXCoder: LOL for bicycle banggood suggest horse mask
09:13 PM XXCoder: yeah thats so safe..
09:14 PM XXCoder: motorcycle I meant
09:14 PM Jymmm: Tom_L: nice job
09:14 PM XXCoder: indeed.
09:15 PM Tom_L: thanks

09:29 PM XXCoder: ready to go for bank robbery heh
09:30 PM XXCoder: or ready to go furry bicycling event
09:38 PM SpeedEvil: I was idly wondering the other day about ways to tightly couple cameras to the occulus rift and diddn't find any
09:39 PM XXCoder: lots weird styuff on banggood with search term "funny"
09:40 PM XXCoder: like award of penis.
09:40 PM XXCoder: or decal of deer fucking male hunter
09:55 PM XXCoder: lol https://www.banggood.com/Simulation-Slide-Ruler-Vernier-Caliper-Model-Keyring-Key-Chain-p-954400.html
09:56 PM XXCoder: I wonder what precision it can go to :P
09:56 PM XXCoder: .01" maybe
09:57 PM XXCoder: robrenz might grind it to be much more accurate ;)
09:57 PM * `Wolf wants a surface grinder
09:58 PM XXCoder: work dont have one either lol
09:58 PM `Wolf: funny part is I just want one to make a set of flat stones right now lol
09:59 PM XXCoder: cant you use 3 stone method?
09:59 PM `Wolf: the honing stones for precision flat
10:00 PM XXCoder: he used lathe to make em
10:00 PM XXCoder: used pennies and copper tube (bar, drilled hole)
10:02 PM XXCoder: then after he made 3 of em, he used em on each otgher
10:02 PM XXCoder: was interesting set of videos
10:02 PM `Wolf: you’re thinking of lapping plates
10:02 PM xunil: you talking about oxtoolco's videos?
10:02 PM XXCoder: xunil: might be yes
10:02 PM xunil: yeah
10:03 PM xunil: those were pretty recent, and Wolf is right, they were lapping plates
10:03 PM XXCoder: isnt those used to make flat stones? or am I wrong
10:03 PM xunil: that's all i have to say on the topic, though, because i am a noob, even among noobs :)
10:04 PM `Wolf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVLXsq7pi9Y this
10:05 PM XXCoder: yeah liked that video
10:05 PM XXCoder: im way too nervious to do stuff hes showing tho!
10:06 PM `Wolf: ive been drilling holes in my mill for 3 days so my nervousness level is lowering lol
10:06 PM xunil: haha, that'll do it
10:07 PM XXCoder: I mean, he ground on caliper and precision blocks, so on!
10:07 PM xunil: yeah fair enough
10:07 PM xunil: i'd be nervous too
10:07 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/0CawFmP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/RQJrIWW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PhftEBY.jpg
10:08 PM `Wolf: yeah, but he probably worked up to that level just like bar-z stan did
10:08 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:09 PM XXCoder: his pay probbaly is 3 times mine heh
10:09 PM `Wolf: 2 axis scales down, 4 more to install lol
10:11 PM XXCoder: his recent video he bought 2 harbour express tool carts, cut em and modified it into rock surface holder
10:12 PM `Wolf: ooo, that is relevant to my interests
10:13 PM xunil: cool.
10:13 PM `Wolf: hmm wtf lol I just saw the pic of it
10:13 PM `Wolf: 3’x4’ surface plate lol
10:14 PM XXCoder: yeah he got it free because its out of spec too much
10:14 PM XXCoder: I guess either he uses it as table only or he fixes the spec
10:15 PM `Wolf: yeah, that makes me worry, my 18”x24”x6” plate is a starret pink
10:15 PM XXCoder: he said black ones is stronger. yeah no idea too lol
10:16 PM `Wolf: well, he said its horrendous to lap vs black
10:16 PM `Wolf: pink has a really high quartz content, I would think it would be harder then the black stones
10:17 PM XXCoder: maybe hje meant more generally harder?
10:17 PM XXCoder: while pink has harder spots so harder to make level
10:17 PM `Wolf: thats what I would guess from that
10:17 PM `Wolf: too much labor to hand lap it back in
10:18 PM XXCoder: work its all black ones
10:18 PM XXCoder: even smaller and damaged one from utah (shop there treated stuff badly, no wonder it went under)
10:19 PM `Wolf: I have 2 black/grey and 1 pink
10:19 PM XXCoder: once shop is built im considering getting a small one.
10:19 PM XXCoder: $100 is pretty cheap
10:20 PM `Wolf: all of mine came from a working shop that went under (foreclosure auction) so I’m hoping mine are somewhat in spec
10:21 PM XXCoder: cool
10:21 PM `Wolf: once I get the big one on a stand I’ll do a simple check with a surface gauge and DTI
10:22 PM `Wolf: and level test
10:22 PM XXCoder: my favorite basic check is gliding 123 block on its side across surface
10:22 PM XXCoder: it dont check for pits but it catches bumps
10:22 PM `Wolf: yeah, I need to check for hollows and whatnot
10:22 PM XXCoder: it used to be important with that damaged block but now its reground to spec its just to check for dirt
10:24 PM XXCoder: theres couple morons at work that eat at rock
10:24 PM XXCoder: most woekers is great but yeah
10:25 PM `Wolf: the shop mine came out of had lots of large digital height gauges (read as big heavy things sliding all over the plates)
10:25 PM XXCoder: yeah same at work
10:25 PM XXCoder: its now certified though to 2019
10:26 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/oapW32x.jpg over kill home shop item lol
10:26 PM `Wolf: 24” height
10:26 PM XXCoder: lol fancy
10:27 PM `Wolf: I put a $100 bid on it
10:27 PM `Wolf: and won
10:27 PM `Wolf: lol
10:27 PM XXCoder: wonder why
10:28 PM `Wolf: old and crusty, wasn’t the newer LCD types they had 20 of
10:28 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/Z0OCw3e.jpg lol
10:28 PM XXCoder: making kitchen counter into rock eh ;)
10:28 PM XXCoder: kidding
10:29 PM XXCoder: so when can I have that dinner, whatever that is ;)
10:29 PM `Wolf: thats actually a 18”x12” surface plate under it lol
10:29 PM XXCoder: yah
10:29 PM `Wolf: was on the kitchen table lol
10:29 PM XXCoder: would be funny if someone bought retired rocks and made em into super accurate kitchen counters
10:30 PM `Wolf: lol I’m so lazy watching him make the jack feet for the stone, I just ordered feet from mcmaster
10:30 PM XXCoder: thats him really
10:30 PM XXCoder: when someone on youtube complained about weak arm holding camera
10:31 PM XXCoder: he made one thats 100 times overkill of regular one.
10:31 PM `Wolf: … he just had to show off that rolling saw, there is one for sale 60mins from here on one of the the machinist yard sale groups
10:31 PM XXCoder: lol if theres machinist anything its 5000 miles away from me :P
10:32 PM XXCoder: way too weak protection jeez https://www.banggood.com/5x80mm-Tritium-Tube-Self-luminous-15-Years-Keychain-Green-p-952840.html
10:33 PM `Wolf: holy shit thats a lot of work lol (the cart...
10:34 PM XXCoder: yup
10:35 PM XXCoder: it has to hold up rock as well as some mods to lower it so he can use it without ladder
10:36 PM `Wolf: I was going to use the feet from mcmaster I was talking about is for the plate to sit on
10:38 PM XXCoder: on what? steel frame you make?
10:38 PM `Wolf: yeah I was going to make a somewhat simple stand
10:38 PM XXCoder: think tool cart isnt quite strong enough, unless its pretty small and yours arent
10:39 PM `Wolf: hasnt crushed the kennedy cart yet
10:39 PM `Wolf: lol
10:39 PM `Wolf: https://i.imgur.com/PSApHXY.jpg
10:39 PM XXCoder: ya remember that pic
10:43 PM `Wolf: I was just going to make a loose copy of the starret stand
10:44 PM XXCoder: why not tool carts
10:44 PM `Wolf: wrong size
10:44 PM XXCoder: I mean, both sides has drawers and stufdf
10:44 PM `Wolf: 18”x24” would be a small car
10:44 PM `Wolf: t
10:46 PM `Wolf: more like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v09ZnEYDWn4&t=6s
10:47 PM XXCoder: yeah most ones at work have that type
10:47 PM XXCoder: basic steel frame
10:47 PM XXCoder: some on wheels
10:49 PM XXCoder: geeeez
10:49 PM XXCoder: linear rails have gotten so cheao
10:49 PM XXCoder: https://www.banggood.com/Machifit-500mm-Length-MGN9-Linear-Rail-Guide-with-MGN9H-Linear-Rail-Block-CNC-Tool-p-1237469.html?
10:50 PM `Wolf: wow damn
10:50 PM XXCoder: yeah
10:50 PM XXCoder: helps that its 500mm, below 600mm where prices go up very fast
10:54 PM `Wolf: I paid $109 for 3x 550mm mgn12H
10:55 PM XXCoder: nice
10:55 PM `Wolf: last year lol
10:56 PM XXCoder: bought can't cut gloves lets see if it will be good lol
10:56 PM XXCoder: new wifi donglen (reason I finally made the order) and few lol stuff
10:57 PM `Wolf: lol
10:57 PM XXCoder: like car spinny thing
10:57 PM XXCoder: https://www.banggood.com/ECUBEE-EDC-Car-Shape-Hand-Spinner-Fidget-Spinner-Finger-Reduce-Stress-Gadget-3-Colors-p-1172035.html
10:58 PM `Wolf: I might make my surface plate stand so I can put a ikea kitchen cabinet drawer set under it lol
10:59 PM XXCoder: fancy
10:59 PM XXCoder: use a lack or 2 ;)
10:59 PM XXCoder: lack lacks strength though. so lacking, them lacks.
10:59 PM `Wolf: quick and easy, heavy steel frame, some tabs and ply wood, add drawers
11:01 PM MrHindsight: that profile linear rail is probably one step above stamped drawer slides
11:01 PM `Wolf: probably fine for 3d printer build
11:02 PM MrHindsight: yeah
11:02 PM `Wolf: step above V slot alum
11:02 PM XXCoder: or wood milling machine
11:02 PM MrHindsight: I was looking around for linear rail 5-10 years ago of this quality
11:02 PM XXCoder: not exactly precise, those. plastic alspo
11:02 PM `Wolf: 9mm rail, too small
