01:32 AM gloops: pondering manual tool change
01:35 AM gloops: in linuxcnc this is just a pause from what i can see, you dont touch the next tool off before continuing
01:36 AM gloops: providing the tools are not very different in length
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: hi
01:48 AM XXCoder: hey
01:48 AM IchGucksLive: ;-) whats up in Washington lots of snow
01:49 AM XXCoder: tacoma specifically just small amount of snow
01:49 AM XXCoder: but considering washington state is 50th best state on driving, there is lots accients anyway
01:50 AM gloops: hi Ichs
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: morning lots of warnings around you
01:50 AM gloops: thining about manual tool change here, what the best/normal procedure with linuxcnc?
01:51 AM gloops: for snow? nah raining here atm
01:51 AM XXCoder: problem is LOTS people moving to washington state from calfornia. them calforniaians never drive in rain and snow basically. lol
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: did you see my video
01:51 AM gloops: the freecad one? didnt see i was going out as you posted it, ill have a look
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: xxcoder like here refugies from Africa never used to see snow
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: the tooolchange
01:52 AM gloops: oh ill watch now thanks
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M2yqr3lKfo
01:57 AM gloops: interesting thanks
01:57 AM gloops: so these touch off plates work a bit like a limit switch?
01:58 AM XXCoder: better to use as homing switch
01:58 AM XXCoder: and use soft limits. best it would actually touch those switches once per power on
01:59 AM XXCoder: ah yes conductive plate touch for finding z
01:59 AM XXCoder: nm lol
02:00 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: it is connectedas
02:00 AM IchGucksLive: SPACE
02:00 AM IchGucksLive: the trigger is G92
02:01 AM gloops: to an inpt pin - the tool grounds it when it touches?
02:01 AM IchGucksLive: yes
02:01 AM gloops: no that cant be right
02:01 AM gloops: oh right heh
02:01 AM IchGucksLive: motion.probe
02:01 AM gloops: im gonna have a lot of wores going to a few input switches here
02:02 AM IchGucksLive: net toolprobe motion.probe-input <= parport.0.pin-12-in-not
02:03 AM gloops: probably a job ill have to done when the machine is working, just wanted some idea of how it works for now
02:03 AM IchGucksLive: make a led in sidepanel to vew if it is touching
02:03 AM IchGucksLive: view
02:03 AM IchGucksLive: so you are shure it is on
02:04 AM gloops: yes good idea
02:04 AM IchGucksLive: if you got space on table
02:04 AM gloops: you could do the same thing with a bit of paper i suppose
02:04 AM IchGucksLive: go for a G30
02:04 AM gloops: what does g30 do?
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: move to a mashine coordinate point
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: its above the tooltouch plate
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: so in gcode lineup
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: move Z clear
02:05 AM gloops: right
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: stop tool
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: init G30
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: M0
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: NOW manuelk toolchange
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: hit P to continue
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: and call the touchoff routine
02:07 AM gloops: sounds straightforward enough
02:07 AM IchGucksLive: THIS eighter rights the toolofset to tooltable and loads the tool with H
02:07 AM IchGucksLive: or as i like on many parts milling
02:08 AM IchGucksLive: i got a Flex height touch pad that is moved to part Zero Z
02:08 AM IchGucksLive: so all tools are length Zero
02:08 AM IchGucksLive: and the G92 inits the Zero
02:09 AM IchGucksLive: WORKFLOW on that is
02:09 AM IchGucksLive: take a tool Zero the tool on part
02:09 AM IchGucksLive: move to G30 XY
02:09 AM gloops: i was looking at all the scripts Durval did for his routine, that way looks a bit complicated
02:09 AM IchGucksLive: almopst somwhere ther over the plate
02:10 AM IchGucksLive: move the tool to Z Zero
02:10 AM IchGucksLive: screw the touch plate up till led lights
02:10 AM IchGucksLive: i got a Fine tread as 0,5mm pr turn
02:11 AM IchGucksLive: as i only got 70mm workspace Z
02:11 AM IchGucksLive: it is ok in scew length
02:12 AM IchGucksLive: as there are RAW parts mostly i zero around 0,2mm deeper so it is always a mill
02:12 AM IchGucksLive: if the touchplate is Fixed by counter tread
02:12 AM IchGucksLive: or screw clamp
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: touch the tool on this
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: with the routine
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: o<znullen> call
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: or probez whatever it is
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: now you got a real point
02:14 AM IchGucksLive: so for understanding the Touchplate is Your Z Zero
02:14 AM IchGucksLive: easy to do
02:15 AM gloops: right, ill be having a go at it soon hopefully
02:15 AM IchGucksLive: im off
02:17 AM Deejay: moin
02:28 AM gloops: all you need basically for this tool change is something to allow you to jog while the tool changing halt has been called, then return to previous position
02:35 AM archivist: I do manual tool change on my lathe, no jogging, but I do setup the tool table fully
02:37 AM gloops: well that would probably be ok anyway archivist, if you bottom the tool out on the collet it cant be far out
02:38 AM MarcelineVQ: do your collets have bottoms?
02:38 AM archivist: some collets have a backstop or you fit one
02:38 AM gloops: no they dont
02:38 AM MarcelineVQ: ah a backstop
02:38 AM gloops: how do you know where your tool is positioned in the holder?
02:39 AM archivist: it hits the backstop
02:39 AM archivist: or you measure or use a tool length measuring thing
02:42 AM gloops: a physical block would work, if you send z to z10 say, tool change, fit tool to touch block, continue
02:42 AM archivist: all the simple schemes for tool measuring never mention shaped tools!
02:42 AM gloops: or a backstop as you say
02:43 AM gloops: or just something to measure from the collet, or some fixed point on the spindle
02:43 AM archivist: with a v tool you need the width at the surface to be right not the tip length
02:43 AM gloops: (could be tightening collet more or less)
02:45 AM miss0r: JT-shop: Are you having connectivity issues?
02:45 AM gloops: v tools cause some confusion in CAD/CAM it usually works so the tool will cut to a depth that forms a V - that gets tricky when its working between 2 lines like a pocket
02:46 AM miss0r: gloops: Depending on what software you are using to generate the tool path
02:46 AM miss0r: its fairly straight forward in mastercam
02:47 AM gloops: yes miss0r, a lot assume though that a 6mm V bit will cut 6mm deep, not always the case
02:47 AM gloops: as an example
02:48 AM miss0r: yeah. I only use V bits for two things; PCB isolation milling & chamfering(with a chamfering tool, thou)
02:49 AM miss0r: I used it once to make a bunch of straight pockets. and I did cause some confusion here thou :]
02:50 AM gloops: ive got option to set flat bottom depth (most probably do) i first thought nah i dont want any flats - you then realise it just goes deeper and depper to make a V
02:53 AM miss0r: flat bottom.. :S All v-bits has some sort of flat
02:53 AM archivist: similar problem with gear cutters
02:56 AM gloops: yeah they have some flat, but between 2 spans, a 60 degree bit might have to go 20mm deep to make a V, you might only want maximum depth of 5mm, so you set flat depth of 5 mm, it then stops at 5mm and the remaining space is machined flat
02:57 AM miss0r: indeed
02:59 AM archivist: with clock gears we made the blank over size, cut teeth, measure od, adjust depth then recut
03:00 AM archivist: clock gears finish to a point
03:02 AM gloops: i suppose with manual you have the luxury of creeping down to the final size in stages, with cnc you hit run and then say 'what the hell is it doing!'
03:02 AM MarcelineVQ: always sim your cams :O
03:02 AM archivist: you re run with cnc after adjusting depth
03:06 AM gloops: well, hoping the diy shop is open for some bolts
03:07 AM gloops: if not got reducers to make for 4 pulleys
03:09 AM gloops: slowlee slowlee catchee monkee..
03:22 AM miss0r: you can always turn your own bolts. Chances are they will fit better anyway ;)
03:50 AM gloops: not when theyre about 10 pence each miss0r lol
03:51 AM miss0r: heretic !
03:51 AM gloops: snowing here now...greaaat
04:15 AM trentster: I wish it was snowing here. It 9PM and still 88℉ outside!
04:16 AM XXCoder: black ice warning here heh and maybe little snow
04:26 AM trentster: I just got a whole batch of aluminium plate back from the waterjet cutter, I had no idea that the waterjet is so inaccurate, the kerf is not even 90 degrees. I am having to fix up all the parts on the CNC machine which kinda defeats the whole purpose of getting them 3rd party cut. Sigh!
04:35 AM enleth: trentster: much depends on the machine and the operator, if you have any small parts in that batch, maybe keep one to show it to other waterjet places in the area and ask if they can do any better
04:35 AM trentster: enleth: yeah, thanks, that's a good idea.
04:40 AM jthornton: morning
04:41 AM jthornton: 14F
04:46 AM XXCoder: fancy
04:48 AM miss0r: lol we have 35f outside. This is nothing like the winter I know
04:49 AM archivist: trentster, it costs more to have straighter sides
04:49 AM miss0r: lol
04:56 AM trentster: archivist: costs more as in they have to use a more expensive / capable water jet machine?
05:01 AM jthornton: http://info.icee.co.uk/blog/what-accuracy-can-be-achieved-with-waterjet-cutting
05:02 AM trentster: jthornton: thanks, very interesting indeed.
05:03 AM jthornton: aye looks like 5 quality levels
05:03 AM archivist: trentster, higher pressure etc
05:04 AM jthornton: looks like cutting speed is the most important as well as machine condition
05:04 AM trentster: I had some mild steel laser cut from the same guy who cut the Alu plates. the laser cut stuff was almost perfect.
05:04 AM trentster: I guess he must have an old waterjet cutter.
05:05 AM jthornton: or he was running at the fastest possible speed
05:06 AM XXCoder: did you specify tolences?
05:08 AM trentster: yeah I asked he said I should oversize the holes by .1mm
05:08 AM trentster: https://ibb.co/bN3JUw
05:08 AM trentster: Thats the laser cut stuff after ive sprayed it.
05:10 AM trentster: And the Alu, looks pretty awful.
05:10 AM trentster: https://ibb.co/novkbb
05:10 AM trentster: https://ibb.co/jVZ09w
05:11 AM enleth: trentster: seeing that reminds me I have to order some seriously thick and big steel plate soon, as a base plate and load spreader for the robot
05:12 AM jthornton: is that one big extrusion or many square ones for the bed?
05:12 AM enleth: 1500x1500x25mm or something to the tune
05:13 AM trentster: jthornton: many square ones. I picked up a huge batch of 80x80 Bosch Rexroth Extrusion. The machine was designed around it.
05:13 AM trentster: enleth: Nice. What kind of robot you building?
05:14 AM enleth: trentster: not really building, just overhauling it. KUKA KR200/1A
05:14 AM jthornton: did you have to square the 8020 up before assembly?
05:15 AM enleth: old stuff, got it below scrap value as it was broken and somewhat beat up, works rather fine now but still sits on a rickety pallet
05:15 AM trentster: I havent assembled yet, been prepping the ALU parts and creating countersinks for the screws etc, and lapping them flat. I hopefully will start assembly tomorrow.
05:16 AM trentster: I am worried about getting the extrusions all aligned and flat, I was planning on using 2 spare 25 series hiwin rails to clamp back and front to get them all on the same flat(ish) plane before I do the bolt up.
05:20 AM trentster: enleth: I'd love to have a robot to play with! (that's what she said), but I've got enough right now to keep me busy, CNC machines and 3D printers etc.
05:21 AM XXCoder: theres few printable robot arms
05:23 AM trentster: XXCoder: I Don't consider it a real robot arm unless I can put a Katana sword in it's robot hands and watch it slice something ;-)
05:23 AM XXCoder: lol
05:23 AM XXCoder: well
05:23 AM XXCoder: theres lots big arms for sale now, due to car factory swapping em now
05:23 AM enleth: yeah, a lot of first-gen KRs
05:24 AM enleth: but they're still pretty expensive if you're getting a known good and tested unit
05:24 AM enleth: $5-7k is a bargain
05:24 AM trentster: XXCoder: Don't tempt me, I already get kicked to the couch by the wife when I impulse buy things I really shouldn't. ;-)
05:24 AM XXCoder: lol
05:24 AM XXCoder: yeah 5-7k bit above my impluse buy!
05:24 AM enleth: I got mine for $1800
05:25 AM enleth: it *was* an impulse buy
05:25 AM trentster: Nice, thats a very decent price!
05:25 AM XXCoder: dang that chea
05:26 AM archivist: stay old free and single so you dont get shouted at :)
05:26 AM enleth: of course, it was broken, so I made a bet on being able to fix it better than the previous owner (who wanted to get rid of it after he dumped a lot of money into fixing it and got nowhere)
05:26 AM enleth: $300 more in parts and it works now
05:26 AM XXCoder: archivist: im free and single but not much of a improvement
05:26 AM trentster: enleth: I'd bet the servo motors alone in that arm way exceed the purchase price.
05:26 AM XXCoder: whats you do with your arm?
05:27 AM enleth: trentster: they do
05:27 AM enleth: the control alone does
05:27 AM enleth: heck, the ProfiBus cards in it almost do
05:27 AM XXCoder: the better deal is, the more "alone" there is. servos alone, control alone, profibus alone...
05:28 AM enleth: and there's still 1200kg of extremely high grade aluminum in it
05:28 AM enleth: which is 70-80% of the purchase price in scrap value
05:28 AM trentster: wow, sounds like a real beast!
05:28 AM trentster: you got a pic?
05:29 AM enleth: so I decided that worst case, if it's unfixable, I can sell it for scrap and parts and probably still profit
05:29 AM miss0r: we need pics! :)
05:29 AM trentster: Yeah, at that price, it's a no-brainer.
05:30 AM XXCoder: profit of 3x in least LOL
05:31 AM enleth: huh, actually I only have pics from when it was shipped here - https://hackerspace.pl/~spin/Kuka_transport/IMG_0953.JPG (and others in that directory)
05:31 AM enleth: I need to snap some new ones
05:31 AM XXCoder: so, whats you do with arm
05:31 AM XXCoder: hmm
05:31 AM XXCoder: I wonder if its possible to make arm into farmbot variant
05:31 AM XXCoder: limited range but yeah
05:32 AM miss0r: Is that arm rigid enough to be equipped with a spindle?
05:32 AM enleth: learn how to use it, then most likely plasma cutting, light milling and hot wire foam cutting
05:32 AM miss0r: nice
05:33 AM enleth: miss0r: yes, it's obviously not as rigid as a proper milling machine but it's beefy enough to mill soft materials
05:33 AM enleth: wood, hard foams, polymers
05:33 AM miss0r: enleth: Think of the angles of access :D *drules*
05:33 AM enleth: that's the point
05:33 AM enleth: it can handle absolutely huge stock
05:33 AM enleth: needs an external rotary table, though
05:33 AM miss0r: if you can park the stock on the floor, you can mill it
05:34 AM XXCoder: yeah 4th axis and done
05:34 AM enleth: XXCoder: 7th actually
05:34 AM XXCoder: lol ok
05:34 AM enleth: and I don't have the external axis control module, so I'm going to have to do multiple setups in series, with the table stationary during milling
05:35 AM enleth: not a huge problem with a decent CAM, it just won't be able to turn the rotary in sync with the arm
05:35 AM XXCoder: theres machines where 4th axis have to be rotated and locked seperately
05:35 AM XXCoder: because it cannot rotate while cutting
05:35 AM enleth: from the point of view of the robot, it'd just do completely separate milling ops that just happen to be performed on different sides of the same stock
05:36 AM enleth: yeah, same thing here
05:36 AM trentster: Me wants one!
05:36 AM enleth: the external axis module exists for this model, but I've never seen it available for sale
05:36 AM enleth: not sure why
05:37 AM enleth: it's not just expensive, it's simply unobtainable
05:37 AM miss0r: enleth: have it sent to denmark. I'll pay you $500 right now
05:37 AM miss0r: :]
05:37 AM XXCoder: miss0r: for boxing material?
05:37 AM enleth: miss0r: funny, my Bridgeport came from Denmark
05:37 AM miss0r: XXCoder: sure :D
05:37 AM miss0r: enleth: Aren't we feeling international today :]
05:38 AM enleth: the only words in Danish I know are the operator panel labels on it
05:38 AM _methods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Vk9tBaex0U
05:38 AM miss0r: enleth: Which is actualy double funny. there havent ever been alot of bridgeports in Denmark. You must've been lucky to find one
05:38 AM _methods: lasersnake
05:39 AM miss0r: _methods: I've seen this heist movie. The laywer gets shot in the end
05:40 AM _methods: shot by the laser snake?
05:40 AM miss0r: absolutly
05:40 AM _methods: nice
05:40 AM _methods: i need a lasersnake
05:40 AM miss0r: Pretty impressive thou
05:45 AM XXCoder: we need a plans for lasersnake lol
05:49 AM miss0r: I still have one speed commander sc3-7500 V5 VFD left. I will give it away for free, you will pay postage. Located in Denmark
05:49 AM miss0r: it weighs 6.2kg
05:51 AM Tom_L: 14°F
05:53 AM enleth: miss0r: would you check the postage rates to Poland?
05:53 AM miss0r: sure... hang on
05:54 AM miss0r: apparently 63.8 eur
05:54 AM miss0r: heh, I thought it would be more
05:55 AM miss0r: but that is the category called 'up to 10kg'. I wonder if it is cheaper once they put it on the scale at the post office
05:56 AM enleth: probablt=y not
05:56 AM XXCoder: flat rate for range I guess
05:56 AM miss0r: I suppose so
05:56 AM miss0r: You interrested?
05:56 AM enleth: miss0r: I'm very much interested
05:56 AM miss0r: I can even throw in a RS-485 module if you like
05:57 AM miss0r: I don't know if the RS-485 module works thou, I dont have the means to test it
05:57 AM enleth: that would be even more kind of you
05:57 AM miss0r: heck, you can have two.
05:58 AM miss0r: its for enabling rs-485 coms on it. But keep in mind, if you have this module installed you will not be able to run it with digital inputs, it will only answer to the RS-485 (I had some issues with that, untill I figured that part out)
05:58 AM enleth: typical
05:59 AM enleth: all bus-capable VFDs I had worked like this
05:59 AM enleth: miss0r: bank transfer or PayPal?
05:59 AM miss0r: I've never before used these speed commanders. They are ridiculous simple, once you get the idea
06:00 AM miss0r: Paypal is fine with me
06:01 AM miss0r: http://picpaste.com/IMG_20171227_130007-xBNBm0E4.jpg
06:02 AM miss0r: this is the official website: http://dev.speed-tech.dk/347/sc3-7500-v5
06:02 AM enleth: yeah, already found the manual
06:03 AM enleth: what's your PP address?
06:03 AM miss0r: hold'yer horses :)
06:03 AM miss0r: I'll go to the post office soon. Once I get back from posting it, I will send you the bill :] (I will need to buy a box for it)
06:04 AM miss0r: I have a bag of thoes marshmellows here. but I don't have a box that fits
06:04 AM enleth: ok
06:05 AM miss0r: i'm glad this found a new home. I was getting sick of looking at it - I have a serious space issue here, and I hate to see good equipment go to waste
06:06 AM miss0r: also; should you miss this part in the manual; if you are not going to use it with the RS-485, and use it with digital inputs instead, you'll need to install two jumpers instead of the rs-485 module
06:06 AM enleth: and I've been looking for a VFD to make a "VFD box" that can be swapped between power tools as needed
06:06 AM miss0r: Its marked quite clearly on the circuit board where they go
06:06 AM enleth: like belt sanders, table saws, etc.
06:07 AM miss0r: This is ideal for that! you don't have to program it to the motor size
06:07 AM miss0r: infact, you can't. Like i said; this VFD is stupid simple
06:07 AM miss0r: brb
06:08 AM enleth: sounds good, I alredy assimed I'd have to use RS485 to swap motor settings
06:08 AM enleth: *assumed
06:11 AM miss0r: I take that back: i did have a cardboard box it can fit in.. (somewhat oversized thou, but that just leaves more room for 'marshmellows')
06:11 AM miss0r: I'll pack it up. Do you want some tracking on there? (I don't know if they charge more for that)
07:07 AM Deejay: jthornton, there?
07:07 AM Deejay: does modanoconsulting say something to you? if not, never mind
07:38 AM * JT-Shopp gets the home fires burning
08:02 AM Tom_L: 13°F going the wrong direction
08:10 AM JT-Shopp: going to get cold here tonight single digit
08:12 AM Tom_L: got the Y axis mounted last night
08:13 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Y_Axis_Mockup.jpg
08:20 AM archivist: are you going to get the rail surface slimmed before mounting
08:20 AM archivist: skimmed
08:25 AM Tom_L: probably so
08:27 AM gloops: im not sure about this skimming business, its obviously got to be good if everything is dead flat, but i these rails can ride on quite a bit of surface imperfections
08:27 AM gloops: i think these rails
08:28 AM archivist: you want a flat movement rather than bend the rails to the surface
08:28 AM gloops: and stay flat themselves
08:28 AM gloops: yeah if there are bends and twists that needs getting off, but you dont need a mirror finish
08:29 AM gloops: or i guess you dont
08:29 AM archivist: I saw some bent rails at a show, and the sales droid said that was normal the base pulls them straight
08:30 AM gloops: mine were double bent, you can pull it out easy enough
08:33 AM gloops: probably more important for Toms to be right than mine, if i can get .25mm across the entire surface ill be ok with that
08:41 AM JT-Shopp: dang both laser printers fell off the wlan
08:58 AM phipli: JT-Shopp, just had an idea
08:59 AM phipli: if the RTC on your chicken door thing returns a bad date (the RTC battery went flat)
08:59 AM phipli: you could get it to automatically open the door
08:59 AM phipli: heh - did your internet just reset itself JT-Shop ?
09:00 AM JT-Shopp: I don't have the RTC connected to the RPi, no I booted the router trying to get my printers back on line
09:01 AM phipli: ah right - I forgot you'd switched to the RPi
09:03 AM JT-Shopp: still need a network connection to set the clock
09:03 AM phipli: considered connecting an RTC to the pi?
09:04 AM JT-Shopp: yea, but not had the time to do it. Just finished moving all the electronic stuff to and outside cabinet so I could get 20% more roosting space
09:05 AM JT-Shopp: it's just a roost box now lol
09:09 AM JT-Shopp: it's 12F here at the moment
09:09 AM phipli: that's cold (I'll have to convert to work out how cold)
09:10 AM phipli: got to about -10 in this area (didn't measure here specifically)
09:10 AM phipli: a few weeks back
09:10 AM phipli: but is mild now
09:10 AM JT-Shopp: -11c
09:10 AM phipli: urgh
09:11 AM phipli: I have a pond heater for the birds water now
09:11 AM phipli: but need to finish making a waterer like yours
09:11 AM phipli: (made the bucket plus nipples, need to make the stand)
09:13 AM JT-Shopp: I have both vertical and horizontal nipples and both froze up last night, I have a heated dog bowl out now
09:16 AM JT-Shopp: I have two hens laying now :)
09:17 AM phipli: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015OFYQNM/
09:17 AM phipli: I got the 150w one of those
09:17 AM phipli: Laying at -11 is good going :)
09:17 AM phipli: three of ours are laying atm
09:18 AM phipli: one of the older ones has given up for the winter
09:18 AM phipli: I saw you said you found a load of eggs where there shouldn't have been any :)
09:18 AM JT-Shopp: the days are getting longer finally
09:18 AM phipli: (came back to the channel hours later)
09:19 AM JT-Shopp: lol yea the were going behind a cardboard divider and laying them next to the RPi
09:22 AM JT-Shopp is now known as JT-Shop
09:23 AM phipli: nice that they're showing an interest in computing at such a young age :)
09:26 AM JT-Shop: lol
09:27 AM JT-Shop: one just went into the nest box :)
09:36 AM phipli: https://pastebin.com/rPG505b4
09:37 AM phipli: basically, each relay selects positive or gnd for one of the leads on the actuator
09:37 AM phipli: you can't short it because it always has to go through the actuator's motor
09:38 AM phipli: A+Not(B) and Not(A)+B give you the two directions
09:38 AM phipli: and there are built in limit switches
09:51 AM JT-Shop: I need to find a small usb camera for the nest box
09:53 AM JT-Shop: got a copy of that code thanks
09:55 AM phipli: made a couple of tweaks : https://pastebin.com/iYs5CvBf
10:13 AM JT-Shopp: I can see it's going to be one of those days, shutting everything down and starting over...
10:21 AM phipli: since installing ubuntu my printer prints way too dark
10:21 AM phipli: basically unusable without spending ages re-calibrating it
10:48 AM Simonious: in linuxCNC - CAM - 2DContour - how to I select the radial offset from the contour being followed? (also checking the google, this shouldn't be hard.. I'm just missing it)
10:49 AM Simonious: ooo, maybe 'stock to leave'
10:49 AM gregcnc_: fusion?
10:49 AM Simonious: oops, yes
10:49 AM Simonious: sorry
10:50 AM Simonious: %s/linuxCNC/Fusion360/
10:50 AM gregcnc_: stock to leave might be what you want
10:50 AM cpresser: or define a bigger tool tan the one you are actually using
10:52 AM Simonious: yup, radial stock was it
10:52 AM Simonious: :)
11:22 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:25 AM Motioncontrol: Hi
11:33 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
11:33 AM IchGucksLive: hi kucharski
11:34 AM kucharski: IchGucksLive: hi
11:37 AM IchGucksLive: if you need help ask for
11:55 AM gloops: Huge explosion at St Petersburg shopping centre leaves Christmas shoppers injured http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/huge-explosion-st-petersburg-shopping-11759063 …
11:58 AM kucharski: IchGucksLive: thank you
12:59 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: https://youtu.be/iY_EXOpvcjQ
12:59 PM ziper: how bad is it to leave a piece of plastigage in a bearing
01:01 PM IchGucksLive: depends on rotation and speed
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: even chips in a robot bearing at only 1rot is no factor
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:13 PM Spida: rene-dev: are you at 34c3?
01:24 PM phipli: JT-Shop, for the Raspberry Pi RTC, these have worked well for me in the past : https://www.banggood.com/DS3231-Clock-Module-3_3V-5V-High-Accuracy-For-Raspberry-Pi-p-938038.html
01:25 PM phipli: they plug straight into the header
01:25 PM phipli: the battery is rechargeable, so it keeps it topped up while the power is on
01:35 PM JT-Shop: cool
01:36 PM JT-Shop: what does it plug into?
01:38 PM JT-Shop: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M27459S
01:38 PM JT-Shop: I have one of those screw terminal blocks on the RPi
01:42 PM jym: JT-Shop: how do you like it? secure?
01:42 PM jym: or an ends to a means?
01:43 PM JT-Shop: works for me
01:43 PM jym: cool
01:44 PM Phipliv: Into the header so the terminal is in the way :)
01:45 PM JT-Shop: all those extra holes are pins too IIRC
01:45 PM Contract_Pilot-A: Sup...
01:45 PM JT-Shop: frozen chicken nipples
01:48 PM Contract_Pilot-A: Cannot wait to get my hand me down laptop from the kid.
01:48 PM Contract_Pilot-A: they conveyer belt of PC's runs here every couple years.
02:30 PM phipli: :)
02:30 PM phipli: how many people are you along the belt?
02:57 PM nallar is now known as Ross
03:16 PM JT-Shop: phipli: just finished wrapping the run with a tarp and some plastic... hoping the nipples don't freeze tonight
03:21 PM Phipliv: Do you have any kind of water heater?
03:22 PM Phipliv: Or could you bring it in for the night?
03:22 PM JT-Shop: yea a floating heater, the water was 50F this morning but the nipples were all frozen shut.
03:22 PM Phipliv: Ah right
03:22 PM JT-Shop: I'd hate to go out at 4am and carry the water out when the door opens lol
03:22 PM Phipliv: I was worried about that with mine
03:22 PM JT-Shop: I put a heated dog bowl in just to be sure they have water in the morning
03:22 PM Phipliv: so the answer is "yes, it still freezes"
03:23 PM Phipliv: Doesn't get much below zero here too often
03:23 PM JT-Shop: I think a bucket in a bucket with insulation between the two buckets so only the tip is exposed would be ok
03:24 PM JT-Shop: if that makes any sense
03:24 PM Phipliv: yeah
03:24 PM Phipliv: or small heaters in contact with the metal on the nipples
03:25 PM JT-Shop: it actually froze up into the nipple
03:42 PM Deejay: gn8
04:01 PM dioz: Phipliv: you lucky
04:01 PM dioz: it's -35 celcius here for a week
04:01 PM dioz: over a week
04:02 PM Phipliv: Where abouts?
04:02 PM dioz: gmt -6 north america
04:02 PM dioz: north north
04:03 PM dioz: soviet saskatchewan canada
04:03 PM dioz: comrade
04:05 PM gloops: dont lick any metal railings!
04:17 PM JT-Shop: when we lived in alaska sometimes it got so cold you had to piss in a can and throw it outside and it would freeze on the way down
04:27 PM phipli: I've never seen less than -13
04:33 PM Dawaywalker19845: Guten Abend zusammen!
04:35 PM Dawaywalker19845: kennt sich jemand mit der 5i20 aus?habe da ein paar Fragen
04:36 PM Tom_L: yes but likely in english
04:36 PM Dawaywalker19845: ok.. i´ll try :P
04:36 PM phipli: There are some germans around usually as well
04:36 PM phipli: although the main one isn't online :(
04:37 PM Dawaywalker19845: a short descrition of my problem.
04:38 PM Dawaywalker19845: i made a sample config with 3 encoders to get the signals from a linear scale into linux cnc
04:40 PM Dawaywalker19845: i wired x-axis phase-a and phase-b exactly like the pinout says to me
04:40 PM Dawaywalker19845: but these encoder inputs dont change
04:40 PM Tom_L: are they open collector? they might need pullups or something
04:41 PM Dawaywalker19845: they always stay at high level.
04:41 PM Dawaywalker19845: the linear scale works. tested it with the parport.
04:42 PM Dawaywalker19845: i tryed the jumper on the 5i20 for pullup. but it doesnt work
04:43 PM Tom_L: pcw_home or someone should be able to help
04:44 PM Dawaywalker19845: ok. it is the first time that i use irc ;-P. i think it is a user right?
04:44 PM Tom_L: yes
04:44 PM Tom_L: you may have to wait a bit for an answer
04:46 PM Tom_L: IchGucksLive could help you in german but he's not here right now
04:47 PM gloops: how about enleth or Loetmichel
04:47 PM Dawaywalker19845: ok. thank you. perhabs an idea why all the inputs are at high level? (every encoder in , phase a and b for x y z -axis)
04:49 PM Dawaywalker19845: Loetmichel?
04:51 PM gloops: they might not be at their computers - maybe on autojoin, probably a few who can help - when they are here
04:52 PM gloops: archivist
04:53 PM Dawaywalker19845: can they read what i have written before?
04:53 PM Tom_L: yes
04:53 PM Tom_L: it is logged too
04:54 PM Dawaywalker19845: nice... sayed before ... the first time that i use irc :p
05:38 PM phipli: Dawaywalker19845, I don't know the hardware you're using, but can they be switched between inputs and outputs?
05:38 PM phipli: have you accidentally got them set to the wrong one?
05:39 PM phipli: what size pullup resistor did you use?
05:44 PM Dawaywalker19845: i use a mesa 5i20 without breakout board.
05:45 PM Dawaywalker19845: and i want to wire the scale direkt to the input pins.
05:46 PM Dawaywalker19845: sorry, the glass scale
06:19 PM dioz: i wanna get into electronics. is making a 3 axis cnc a good start?
06:19 PM dioz: HAH
06:19 PM cpresser: get an arduino and make a LED blink
06:20 PM cpresser: start slowly
06:22 PM malcom2073: dioz: I hear welding galvanized steel is a good place to start
06:24 PM dioz: malcom2073: /q pug
06:24 PM dioz: woops
06:26 PM dioz: malcom2073: i heard that weldin galv is so terrible you die almost instantly from it
06:27 PM ziper: wat
06:28 PM dioz: truth
07:10 PM `Wolf: welding galv is fun, metal fever ftw…
07:11 PM jdh: reel that one in.
