01:01 AM IchGucksLive: hi
01:54 AM Deejay: moin
02:05 AM jesseg: Is the Enco 110-2073 a 12" lathe?
02:07 AM archivist: sounds like it, seen them mentioned a few times
02:10 AM jesseg: I was looking at one 5 hours away on craigs list for $4000, but that's gone which is probably good for me.
02:13 AM archivist: certain sizes seem very expensive over there
02:13 AM archivist: find a more industrial machine and it will probably be cheaper and more solid
02:14 AM jesseg: Now I'm considering what is probably a mid-60's Cincinnati Hydroshift, 15x42
02:15 AM jesseg: it's $2900, and only 2 hours away
02:18 AM archivist: apart from wear the old machines can be good
02:18 AM archivist: mine is circa 1924
02:18 AM archivist: one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/South-Bend-14-x-60-Engine-Lathe-ADI-205M-/202117074303
02:19 AM jesseg: the ways is worn some on this one -- you can feel the ridge on the inverted V way but it's not deep enough to actually hook your finger nail on.. I'm hoping it'll be a good enough "first real lathe" for me till my budget supports something better.
02:19 AM toastyde1th: what are the criteria here
02:20 AM jesseg: Hobby use, eventual conversion to CNC, a "first real lathe" for me to learn on
02:20 AM toastyde1th: hydrashift is a nice feature until it shits the bed
02:20 AM archivist: the southbends are quite good, the bed wear will hardly affect you
02:21 AM archivist: I would say learn manual to get the feel for machining
02:21 AM jesseg: toastyde1th, yeah, but if the hydroshift part goes bad I can just rip it out and put shift levers in. It's just a regular 3-spool gear head, they just have little hydro shift actuators to shift them.
02:24 AM toastyde1th: sure, i'm just saying that it's a pain in the ass to have to jury rig a solution without a running lathe
02:24 AM jesseg: archivist, yeah, I've been using an old toy mill/lathe combo as manual for about a decade, now starting to try and get outfitted with entry level real mill and lathe. My first machine is like this picture but mine's much older, but it's a shoptask https://vbay-production-v2.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/images/796/796-1-large.jpg
02:25 AM archivist: designed in chatter machine
02:25 AM toastyde1th: another class of machines to look at are 16x30 and 16x40 machines, you will occasionally see good makes go for fairly inexpensive
02:25 AM toastyde1th: and a 16" lathe is usually a totally diffrent pattern/massive spindle compared to a 12/14
02:25 AM jesseg: toastyde1th, yeah -- but I can probably keep the hydroshift working. It looks pretty straight forward, and I love hydraulics, and these appear to be pretty simple. But, we'll see. Could be a learning experience of an entirely different kind than I expected :D
02:25 AM toastyde1th: because most people are searching for 12/14, they go for less money
02:26 AM archivist: one of the linuxcnc lads did cnc one of those shoptask
02:26 AM jesseg: In my area, I just search for "lathe" and there's still no options without driving for 2 hours, and that's on a good day :D <--- in the boonies
02:27 AM jesseg: archivist, actually I've done X-Y cnc conversion on my shoptask.. But.. the machine just leaves a lot to be desired.. really :D
02:28 AM jesseg: I mean I don't regret one bit buying my shoptask for $500 all those years ago. Amazing learning experience. Untold hours of enjoyment. But.. there comes a time when you want a knee mill and regular lathe :D
02:28 AM toastyde1th: i mean i'd consider a 6 hour drive a decent investment for a lathe, but i guess that depends on how far out in the boonies you are. if everything's 12+ hrs away, then...
02:28 AM archivist: and then a lathe/mill for each size of work :)
02:29 AM jesseg: nah I'm 2 hours from the nearest big city
02:32 AM toastyde1th: turret lathes are also super, super nice if you don't plan on turning screws w/out a die and are oddly plentiful in some areas
02:32 AM toastyde1th: as long as the spindle nose is something you can live with
02:32 AM toastyde1th: and both Mazak and Okuma made flat bed CNC lathes that operate damn close to a manual machine, again oddly popular in certian regions but generally don't show up under "lathe"
04:49 AM jthornton: morning
04:50 AM XXCoder: yo
04:51 AM jthornton: gotta set up my fodder factory this morning
04:51 AM jthornton: !seen herbert__

04:51 AM XXCoder: fodder factory?
04:54 AM jthornton: https://www.peakprosperity.com/blog/growing-sprouted-fodder/72618
04:56 AM XXCoder: interesting
05:07 AM jthornton: got some wire shelving to put in the basement bathtub but it's too big gotta return it and get something smaller
05:08 AM jthornton: https://www.menards.com/main/storage-organization/garage-outdoor-organizers/freestanding-storage/honey-can-do-shf250c1436-14-x-36-wire-shelving-unit-shelf/p-1444433448446-c-12652.htm?tid=-3746627108748014607&ipos=7
05:08 AM jthornton: hmm that size will fit

05:18 AM XXCoder: oops
05:18 AM jthornton: yikes
05:18 AM XXCoder: was supposed to go to notepad
05:19 AM XXCoder: okay so cuecat still works lol
05:20 AM XXCoder: been a while since last tieme I needd it
05:21 AM jthornton: what is cuecat?
05:22 AM XXCoder: its some stupid dot.com product
05:22 AM XXCoder: it was barcode scanner that person would scan at home on products and find prices so on on online
05:22 AM XXCoder: but it was super hackable and it was very stupid idea so company went under
05:23 AM XXCoder: but... its still usable as barcode scanner. sure it encodes as you saw above
05:23 AM XXCoder: but its been broken years ago, and very minor hardware mod makes it output barcode #
05:25 AM Deejay: re
05:26 AM XXCoder: hey
05:30 AM * Deejay has FTTH now
05:59 AM jthornton: crap forgot to empty the bird bath and it's 31F with a high of 37F today
05:59 AM Tom_itx: 20°F
06:00 AM jthornton: we get that tonight
06:02 AM Tom_itx: gotta redo my cad a bit. china told me the wrong linear skates and the hole pattern is different
06:03 AM jthornton: sounds about right
06:03 AM XXCoder: sold?
06:03 AM Tom_itx: er rather Ling Fung Pugh - aka Lori :D
06:05 AM Tom_itx: did a global replace but it still screws up all the contraints and hole locations
06:06 AM XXCoder: freecad?
06:12 AM jthornton: wife said Henry is getting up too early and crowing at 3am is too much
06:17 AM jthornton: sometimes when I make a major change I just give up and start fresh
06:17 AM XXCoder: freecad dont really like you changing stuff
06:31 AM jthornton: oh my I almost forgot it's Pearl Harbor Day
06:32 AM jthornton: and two weeks from Winter solstice
06:35 AM Contract_Pilot: Sup all \
06:38 AM jthornton: setting up my fodder factory
06:39 AM Contract_Pilot: trying to find out why no bluetooth on this winblows machine
06:40 AM Contract_Pilot: swapper mini pci expresses with another laptop so i know its not hardware hahaha
06:40 AM Contract_Pilot: both the same card... \
06:41 AM Contract_Pilot: shows in DM that its workign but cannot find any BT devices ughhh

10:55 AM anonnumberanon: Are the round motors in printers that are called "stepper motor" on ebay actually acting the same as the black and metal stepper motors?
10:57 AM Heinz_: IchGucksLive ich danke dir fĂĽr deine Hilfe
10:59 AM archivist: anonnumberanon, much lower torque and often a different step angle
11:00 AM archivist: anonnumberanon, and another thing is better motors are bipolar, many of the printer motors were unipolar
11:01 AM anonnumberanon: ah okay. i just picked up 2 hp laserjet printers that must be 3-4 years old, one larger for a small office (small, not the really tall ones)
11:01 AM anonnumberanon: was wondering if i was gonna get lucky
11:02 AM archivist: count the wires on any steppers you find
11:03 AM archivist: 5=unipolar
11:03 AM anonnumberanon: ok
11:03 AM archivist: 6 bipolar or unipolar, 4 bipolar only
11:04 AM archivist: 8 bipolar series or parallel
11:27 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
11:59 AM varesa is now known as varesa|
12:02 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:03 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: the 6 wirer are most powerfull
12:13 PM anonnumberanon: I think chasing down printers for steppers is not gonna work out. I' m trying to source ones of the level of what can be found in the 3020/3040 cnc engraver
12:14 PM anonnumberanon: Which apparently are medium strength
12:14 PM andypugh: Buying what you need rather than using what you can find is likely to work out better.
12:21 PM anonnumberanon: Yeah probably. Trying to also cut down on spending and increase my macgyver skills thoug, plus i am making a big check to the government in January..
12:21 PM * hazzy HATES windows. It can't even display the time and date accurately, because the `windows time` disservice keeps crashing
12:21 PM CaptHindsight: $20 steppers is what they use https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/nema-23/
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: where in the world are you
12:22 PM anonnumberanon: Usa
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: ok
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: im in germany
12:22 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy: we still use it for CAD and gaming, heavily modified, lots of services killed or removed
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: liik here http://stores.ebay.com/Rattmmotor?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
12:23 PM hazzy: Yes, I only use it for CAD, and I have it way stripped down
12:24 PM * hazzy has never done any gaming :)
12:24 PM CaptHindsight: anonnumberanon: until you get into >17" wide inkjets you won't find motors close to nema17
12:25 PM anonnumberanon: Looking for nema size 23 i believe
12:27 PM CaptHindsight: anonnumberanon: unless you have access to scrap 48" wide format printers you won't anything nema23 size
12:28 PM CaptHindsight: +find
12:29 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.allprintheads.com/pages/search-results-page?q=motor
12:31 PM CaptHindsight: try mAmazon or the DIY CNC vendors
12:35 PM CaptHindsight: used stepper motors 23 on ebay comes up with prices close to new motors
12:38 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy: have you tried winders CAD as a client on Linux with virtualbox lately?
12:38 PM anonnumberanon: Workcenter pro 245
12:38 PM anonnumberanon: What about that one?
12:38 PM anonnumberanon: Thats what we use at the office they may have broken ones.
12:39 PM JT-Shop: starting to get a little cool out in the shop may need to build a fire today
12:39 PM CaptHindsight: 23F here
12:40 PM hazzy: CaptHindsight: No I have not, last I tried CAD on a VM graphics had horrible lag
12:41 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy: I heard it got better with AMD since the graphics have pass-through
12:41 PM hazzy: JT-Shop: It is even cooling down here in GA, got the heat on in the shop and thinking a fire would be cozy tonight
12:41 PM CaptHindsight: but I haven't had time to try
12:41 PM hazzy: I will have to try again, that would be real handy if it works
12:42 PM CaptHindsight: anonnumberanon: printer co's throw 100 monkeys at squeezing every penny out of the BOM
12:43 PM CaptHindsight: take a peek at the motors, i doubt you'll find anything powerful enough until you are inside much larger printers
12:44 PM JT-Shop: hazzy: I've been running the tiny wood stove in the garage which shares a common wall with the shop and has one door between them. It's 34F at the moment
12:46 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Xerox-WorkCentre-Pro-35-225-Saehan-Electronics-Motor-2-0V-2-0A-4S56Q-02042S/222653807928
12:46 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Xerox-WorkCentre-pro-225-Motor-4S56Q-02042S/162631752103
12:47 PM CaptHindsight: nema 23 but on the light side
12:52 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: how cold does it have to get before the chickens don't go out?
12:53 PM JT-Shop: they won't go out if it is snowing, the cold does not bother them at all
12:53 PM EntropyWizard: I've scrapped about 20 random inkjet printers and found only one stepper that was even close to useful for a small CNC
12:53 PM JT-Shop: in fact if you close up the coop and don't have enough ventilation and fresh air they will get frost bite on the comb from the moisture build up
12:54 PM EntropyWizard: I did get a couple that would probably work for a small 3d printer
12:55 PM anonnumberanon: my cnc project is small, like the chinese 3020
12:56 PM Simonious: Anybody use a 3D gerber viewer for looking at multilayer boards?
12:56 PM EntropyWizard: I bought 3 of these when they were only $8 and they are working fine: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G20043
12:56 PM anonnumberanon: CaptHindsight, you are saying that those motors for the workcenter pro 225 are a little weak for my application? yet they are of size 23?
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: anonnumberanon: yes, I'd suggest at this pint that you go ahead a build something. Then you'll see for yourself.
12:57 PM CaptHindsight: pint/point
12:58 PM anonnumberanon: looks pretty good
12:58 PM anonnumberanon: https://www.amazon.com/Stepper-Motor-178-5oz-1-26Nm-Stepping/dp/B00PNEPF5I/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1512673085&sr=8-4&keywords=stepper+motor+for+cnc

01:05 PM Tom_itx: 29°F... we got ourselves a darn heat wave here today
01:06 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.machinedesign.com/motorsdrives/how-pick-motors-linear-motion
01:07 PM Tom_itx: bigger is better
01:08 PM anonnumberanon: I don't feel like engineering the heck out of this though this is for me, a humble hobby machine.
01:08 PM anonnumberanon: I will emulate a working design so as to save time on thinking it out.
01:08 PM anonnumberanon: I'm following this guy's path right now.
01:09 PM anonnumberanon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lunou93re9g&t=166s
01:10 PM anonnumberanon: he bought the 3020 and fit it with reinforcing z braces and put a makita router in place of the original one
01:10 PM anonnumberanon: and bearings and chrome plated rods
01:10 PM anonnumberanon: + liquid cooling and air towards the spindel
01:10 PM anonnumberanon: spindle
01:11 PM anonnumberanon: I found his build thread online too. Let me find it. But you guys probably know all about it.
01:11 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: i build lots of mashines like http://tv-profi-gmbh.de/masch_baumh_k.jpg
01:11 PM IchGucksLive: for education only
01:13 PM anonnumberanon: here we go, this guy: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/chinese-machines/282106-cnc-cad-autocad-posts.html
01:13 PM anonnumberanon: got accuracy down to 10 micrometers with it
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: thats no problem
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: using C7 Ballscrews
01:14 PM anonnumberanon: so i want to do like him except i would build my own frame (like him meaning same steppers, same rails, same router/motor, same cutting techniques)
01:14 PM CaptHindsight: https://imagebin.ca/v/2apzmk7rpwvC 3045 with camera for alignment
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: speed vs torque vs accuracy
01:15 PM anonnumberanon: IchGucksLive, just say your pic haha wow
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: use a rat set Sqare rails
01:15 PM anonnumberanon: it's like they're multiplying
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: in the education room yes
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: at home no space
01:15 PM andypugh: IchGucksLive: I think you have misunderstood the concept of the robot slave army.
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: as wife dont like to see cnc in kitchen or diningroom ...
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: maybe andypugh
01:16 PM andypugh: Pah! women eh? I bet she doesn’t want a lathe in the living room either?
01:17 PM andypugh: (Though both the women I know seem quite relaxed about the lathe in my living room, both describing it as “pretty”)
01:17 PM CaptHindsight: https://imagebin.ca/v/2aq3eWhTxbGY the china mills tend to have poor ballscrew fixity
01:20 PM CaptHindsight: https://ibin.co/w800/3e2XG9SUECTF.jpg oversized pockets for "better alignment" of ballscrew bearings :)
01:21 PM anonnumberanon: IchGucksLive, what's the story with all these machines?
01:21 PM Tom_itx: i'm glad i remembered about my local screw supplier.. i'd nearly forgotten he was there
01:21 PM anonnumberanon: CaptHindsight, that's nasty
01:22 PM Tom_itx: box of 100 M5 $4 and change
01:22 PM Tom_itx: and no waiting on china
01:22 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_itx: check the grainger site, I often find boxes of overstock for $1
01:23 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_itx: have a link to your guy?
01:23 PM Tom_itx: granger's too damn high
01:24 PM Tom_itx: http://www.wichitafasteners.com/
01:25 PM Tom_itx: not that informative
01:25 PM anonnumberanon: IchGucksLive, these machines all lack an attaching table to bold down parts, and lubricating fluid trays
01:25 PM anonnumberanon: :)
01:25 PM IchGucksLive: not made for that
01:26 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_itx: https://www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-M5-0-80-x-12mm-6DA25 88 cents for pkg 25
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: anonnumberanon: plasma is made for that
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
01:26 PM anonnumberanon: made for what?
01:26 PM anonnumberanon: these are 3d printers?
01:26 PM Tom_itx: CaptHindsight, that's just under what i paid
01:30 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
01:30 PM CaptHindsight: anonnumberanon: they put a tiny high speed spindle in them
01:30 PM Tom_L: i gotta redo my cad a bit
01:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Column_Mill_Design.jpg
01:31 PM Tom_L: that's one design
01:31 PM anonnumberanon: ah yes TY :)
01:32 PM Tom_L: there's a few more pics in there
01:32 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/
01:32 PM Tom_L: work in progress
01:33 PM Tom_L: back to the coal mine...
01:33 PM anonnumberanon: isee
01:35 PM anonnumberanon: Tom_L, hopefully im not bring you back from whatever you must do now but what made you decide on the 2 axis moving table?
01:35 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: does he make any button head socket with a flange?
01:35 PM CaptHindsight: for t-slot?
01:36 PM CaptHindsight: example http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/building-materials/struts-and-framing/8020/3330-flanged-button-head-socket-cap-screw-1116l
01:38 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/storage/struts-and-framing/8020/3278-slidein-economy-tnut
01:38 PM CaptHindsight: another overpriced fastener ^^
02:37 PM Contract_Pilot: orderd my copy of path pilot 2.0 today
02:38 PM Contract_Pilot: wish somone would let me show them proof of payment and let me download the rdr image
02:39 PM hazzy: Hurray! You'll have to report on it. I am curious to know what OS they are using
02:41 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy: Linux :)
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: Contract_Pilot: what features are in it that you find appealing?
02:44 PM Contract_Pilot: the gui
02:44 PM Contract_Pilot: simple and well though out/
02:46 PM hazzy: Is the UI significantly different in v2.0? I thought the main change was an updated OS ...
02:47 PM hazzy: v1.x used Ubuntu 10.06, IIRC, which made it a pain getting things like dropbox to work
02:48 PM hazzy: I have up in the end and when back to Gmoccapy so I could use dropbox
02:48 PM CaptHindsight: i don't want to rely on a service like dropbox
02:50 PM hazzy: Neither do I, but it is more convenient than a USB thumb drive :)
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: how is dropbox used?
02:51 PM CaptHindsight: share g-code? add features to Pathpilot?
02:52 PM hazzy: It is like a network share
02:52 PM hazzy: Just for g-code
02:52 PM CaptHindsight: oh jesus
02:53 PM hazzy: Tormach had it integrated into pathpilot for a while, but then it started causing PP to hang bad things resulted, so they had to disable it
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: so if I'm doing some mobile machining at the beach and forgot the g-code I can get it from dropbox
02:56 PM * SpeedEvil ponders.
02:56 PM SpeedEvil: Waterjet machining at the beach with free abrasive and fluid
02:56 PM hazzy: Sure :D
02:56 PM SpeedEvil: you could be onto something there
02:57 PM CaptHindsight: comes with a 6000 ft extension cord
02:57 PM Contract_Pilot: https://www.tormach.com/uploads/1123/SB0046_PathPilot_Release_Notes_v2-0-0-pdf.html
02:57 PM CaptHindsight: cloud based machining
02:58 PM CaptHindsight: place order, go to beach, part are ready when you come back from beach
02:58 PM hazzy: LOL, the added a `ADMIN DROPBOX` MDI command in v2.0
03:00 PM CaptHindsight: are there any drones involved with PP2.0?
03:02 PM hazzy: Getting g-code files form a windows CAD/CAM machine onto the LinuxCNC controller is a pain, for me dropbox is by far the most reliable and convenient, and I guess others think that too
03:02 PM Contract_Pilot: well monday the 18th they cut my bacon and stuff my guts back in so may not get to play much
03:02 PM JT-Shop: are they both on the same LAN
03:02 PM CaptHindsight: do you run a local dropbox server?
03:03 PM hazzy: JT-Shop: Yes, but the interned connection is bad, so network shares don't work. Dropbox will just carry on where it left off
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: there must be some better way to get your g-code cached onto guberment servers
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: or available on the intertubes
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: what if your isp is down?
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: can't you just seed it as a torrent somewhere?
03:08 PM hazzy: We have a business line, which means our ISP has an up time of maybe 20% :( So yes that causes problems
03:08 PM hazzy: torrent is a good idea!
03:09 PM JT-Shop: hazzy: I don't seem to have any problem sharing files on linux and windoze. Ubuntu 10.04 was a bit of a pain but LinuxMint seems to play nice
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: do you use Samba on Linux or setup a shared folder on winders?
03:10 PM hazzy: JT-Shop: I can get Samba to work, but it is not reliable at all, I think because of the poor connection
03:10 PM hazzy: I end up with locked half copied files
03:11 PM JT-Shop: yuck
03:11 PM JT-Shop: I use samba and share the linux folder or I just copy from the NAS at the machine
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: connecting two or more machines over a poor network is a problem
03:12 PM CaptHindsight: ftp can also complete file transfers if the connection is unstable
03:14 PM hazzy: Yeah, I should try using FileZilla
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: we had similar issues in the time of dial up and modems
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: no clouds involved
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: but sometimes rain would bring down the connection
03:17 PM anonnumberanon: ah i see, plasma cutting cnc tables
03:19 PM dave__ is now known as gloops
03:21 PM hazzy: It seems like certain things have gotten worse over the years. We have a high uptime business class internet service and phone line, and frequently I can't git pull without having it fail due to a microscopic glitch in service.
03:21 PM anonnumberanon: Seems like a git failure.
03:23 PM gloops: Occams razor
03:23 PM hazzy: gloops: :D
03:23 PM CaptHindsight: we monitor traffic 24/7 and it's really horrible how often we are poked, prodded and probed
03:25 PM Jymmm: CaptHindsight: Oh you know you like it ;)
03:25 PM CaptHindsight: rimshot
03:26 PM gloops: cant see why this has had no bids https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/elliot-victoria-drill-press-milling-machine/152811812359?
03:26 PM gloops: if only 'barnsleyjohn' kept his machines in barnsley id have had that
03:29 PM hazzy: gloops: On our machine design final there was an extra credit problem worth 20pt, that question was `What is/was Occams razor`. Maybe 2 people got it, and they were not the ones who needed the extra credit
03:31 PM CaptHindsight: the term was made famous by the movie Contact: Occam's Razor
03:31 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAp3jT8n6Qs
03:33 PM CaptHindsight: gloops: BP mills seem to be sold for lower there than here
03:34 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bridgeport-Milling-Machine/322911857117
03:35 PM CaptHindsight: this would sell in the same day here
03:36 PM SpeedEvil: Transport is often more of an issue.
03:36 PM Jymmm: tow truck?
03:36 PM gloops: a bridgeport went for ÂŁ250 the other week, archivist was watching it, too far from me to travel really though
03:37 PM SpeedEvil: Jymmm: I've tried that, the castors on the bottom explode if you tow them more than a half mile
03:37 PM gloops: may van is from the same era as the machine lol
03:37 PM Jymmm: SpeedEvil: Ah
03:37 PM gloops: my
03:37 PM Jymmm: SpeedEvil: 4x4's?
03:37 PM Jymmm: SpeedEvil: as in lumber
03:38 PM SpeedEvil: I wasn't being serious.
03:38 PM gloops: be ok with a decent trailer on a car
03:39 PM SpeedEvil: UK homes are also on average smaller, and everythings tighter, meaning it can be more awkward
03:39 PM SpeedEvil: A generalisation of course.
03:41 PM gloops: compact and bijou SpeedEvil, compact and bijou

03:58 PM gloops: thats how to do it
03:58 PM XXCoder: so you got a head in truck
04:02 PM gloops: someone on facebook cnc group posting custom hal files for linuxcnc
04:04 PM Contract_Pilot: ok under the house i go to run cat 6 \
04:11 PM Deejay: gn8
04:55 PM anonnumberanon: Starting to have a good parts list. Now to find 3 ballscrews that wont kill my wallet.
04:57 PM chopper791: Darn MPG is making multiple axis move and not just the selected one. Then I get a following error.... Never seen something like that before.
04:57 PM anonnumberanon: 20cm by 20cm on x and y
04:57 PM nallar is now known as Ross
05:40 PM anonnumberanon: Any issues with this? Just dont thin i need it this long for z and x
05:40 PM anonnumberanon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073VHJQWM/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1512689804&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=ballscrew&dpPl=1&dpID=41H%2BJ9OzRrL&ref=plSrch
05:47 PM chopper791: hmm... all signals are showing up in halshow and halmeter from my mpg. Ilowpass and enc0 all have activity and ame with all the mux4. No movement from motors or change in dro. Anybody have any ideas?
05:50 PM jdh: noise?
05:55 PM chopper791: Maybe if I was only having the issue I first stated which was one I had last night when I move the X axis the Z would also move. I said heck with it and went to bed. I turned the controls on tonight to do some more work on the config and I wanted to fix the mpg issue first. Now there is no movement at all but all signals show up fine in halmeter and halshow.
05:56 PM chopper791: gmoccapy for interface so I am not sure if I am missing something that gmoccapy needs to use a mpg pendent or not. Axis will job via touchscreen or keyboard with no issues.
05:58 PM chopper791: I for some reason think I had an issue a year or so ago with multiple axis moving when I used the mpg and found I was in the wrong mode or something like that but I am in mode 2 on my 7i92/7i76 setup which should be working fine and it appears to be when you monitor the signals.
05:58 PM chopper791: Now I just have no movment at all even though signals are all present.
06:08 PM chopper791: weird..... The mpg does work but only and only if I first jog the machine with the jog keys on the screen or on keyboard first. Then the mpg will begin to work. What could be the issue there? This is only with the gmoccapy interface as axis will allow full mpg use right formt he beginning.
06:10 PM CaptHindsight: at what points are you monitoring the signals with halmeter and scope?
06:10 PM CaptHindsight: if Halmeter and scope show proper signals than the problems sounds like it is after that
06:11 PM CaptHindsight: chopper791: ^^
06:13 PM chopper791: From the mpg inputs all the way to the count of each axis and the all work fine. This includes enc0 and ilowpass as well.
06:13 PM chopper791: The last post I made stats the mpg does work if I use the axis diplay. When I use gmoccapy the mpg will not work unless I first jog the machine by the screen job buttons or keyboard jog keys.
06:14 PM chopper791: CaptHindsight: ^^
06:15 PM CaptHindsight: dunno
06:15 PM CaptHindsight: corrupted LCNC files?
06:15 PM chopper791: First time using the gmoccapy interface so maybe that is how it is done. Just odd is all but yes the mpg does indeed work
06:16 PM chopper791: maybe something wrong with the lcnc files. Running master.
06:17 PM chopper791: Let me fire up my matsuura and load gmoccpay and see if the mpg works fine there. It is using master from about 1 year ago.
06:17 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight, i'm not sure but i could ask him
06:17 PM chopper791: brb
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: 40 cents a fastener is a bit high, they might be patented
06:18 PM Tom_L: on the flanged button head socket cap screw question
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: same for the t-slot nuts
06:18 PM Tom_L: let's find out...
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: outrageous prices for simple fasteners
06:18 PM Tom_L: global and bel-metric have them
06:18 PM Tom_L: so does granger
06:19 PM Tom_L: https://www.grainger.com/product/38CZ58?cm_mmc=PPC:+Google+PLA&s_kwcid=AL!2966!3!194732895492!!!g!314384206492!&ef_id=WYkTJwAAAGow10-c:20171208001904:s&kwid=productads-adid^194732895492-device^c-plaid^314384206492-sku^38CZ58-adType^PLA
06:19 PM Tom_L: may not be exactly the same
06:19 PM CaptHindsight: 1/4-20 and 5/16-18 are my most common used
06:19 PM Tom_L: well, the size definitely isn't
06:20 PM CaptHindsight: also the dia of the flange might be different
06:20 PM Tom_L: it's a small little hole in the wall but it's full of stuff
06:21 PM Tom_L: the lobby is about a 4 x 6' area :)
06:22 PM CaptHindsight: sounds like many around here
06:22 PM CaptHindsight: bunch of screw machines in back
06:22 PM CaptHindsight: they all say they can make them
06:22 PM Tom_L: i'm sure he doesn't make them
06:22 PM CaptHindsight: just need to order 10K
06:23 PM Tom_L: i gotta get this model updated so i can drill my mounting plates
06:25 PM chopper791: ok... Fired up the matsuura and loaded gmoccapy for the interface and yes I do not have the ability to use the mpg unitl I first jog the machine with the jog keys on screen or keyboard. Then the mpg works fine until next startup in which I have to repeat process to get mpg to work fine.
06:26 PM chopper791: So it appears to be something in gmoccapy that forces the jog of machine first or I am missing something in my config that gmoccapy requires for this not to be an issue. Like I said earlier.... Axis interface works fine.
06:28 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: I found some for 19 cents at MSC
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: 1/2 the price from 8020
06:29 PM CaptHindsight: chopper791: ask on the forums about gmoccapy
06:30 PM hazzy: chopper791: You are encountering a problem that has been in hot discussion lately on the list
06:30 PM Tom_L: that means they're not proprietary
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: but the lengths are slightly different
06:31 PM CaptHindsight: the 8020 have lengths like 11/16 vs 3/4' or 5/8"
06:32 PM Tom_L: does it matter that much?
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: also not sure if that is length under head or overall
06:32 PM Tom_L: generally it's under the head
06:32 PM Tom_L: thread length
06:32 PM CaptHindsight: yes, but with these they get goofy
06:33 PM hazzy: chopper791: I am pretty certain that if you look at the linuxcnc task_mode in LinuxCNC Stats you will see that LCNC is not in manual mode, and that is why it does not jog. Once you keyboard jog the mode is set to manual and so MPG jogging works
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: don't ask me why
06:33 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: when you are trying to control everything that your customer buys thats when things like this happen
06:34 PM Tom_L: yup
06:34 PM CaptHindsight: and you make more profit from fasteners and accessories than from the extrusions
06:35 PM CaptHindsight: 300-400% mark up on every screw sold
06:35 PM Tom_L: just like Ace hardware
06:36 PM Tom_L: just like inkjet printers
06:37 PM chopper791: hazzy: I did not know that has been a hot topic. Makes perfect sense on the manual/auto mode.
06:38 PM hazzy: chopper791: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/issues/361
06:38 PM CaptHindsight: inkjet is more 3000-4000%
06:38 PM chopper791: CaptHindsight: I would but on here so I just forget to go ask the forum
06:40 PM chopper791: hazzy: Thanks I will give it a good look over.
06:40 PM hazzy: Unfortunately I think Axis will soon be reverted so that it behaves the same as Gmoccapy, because they way it currently always sets the mode back to manual interfieres with external UIs that control LCNC via MDI, like probe_screen
06:41 PM chopper791: got ya...
06:42 PM chopper791: Just an odd issue that has been driving me mad since all my signals were working but mpg was not producing movment. Come to find out I have been chasing something that was not really an issue for a bit now.
06:44 PM chopper791: Well now on to making the auto tool touchoff work in gmoccapy. Hope that is easy going...
06:44 PM chopper791: with my setup that is
06:44 PM hazzy: You also might be interested in this thread releated to the issue: https://sourceforge.net/p/emc/mailman/emc-developers/thread/CANV1gke%3DifJErJQSa9D%2BLvo%3Dh8S1iPer%3Dkb-gZj_M-yqnKfnyw%40mail.gmail.com/#msg36147516
07:04 PM chopper791: will do...thanks again hazzy:
08:48 PM Contract_Pilot: who knew that a failing DVD drive in a laptop would make the wifi nic/bluetooth not work
08:49 PM Contract_Pilot: k all laptop nics updated to AC
08:50 PM Contract_Pilot: from B/G
08:51 PM Contract_Pilot: wow!!
10:38 PM Contract_Pilot: So now that Path Pilot 2.0 is public who is gonna leek it at least the RDR file
