12:01 AM Wolf__: what make is that lathe you converted again?
12:04 AM Contract_Pilot: Birmingham YCL-1236GH Z Axis Lead Screw About .870 round X 46-1/8″ long
12:04 AM Contract_Pilot: Same as the 1236 Grizzly
12:04 AM Contract_Pilot: G4003
12:06 AM Contract_Pilot: China seller gonna ship what was missing hahaha.
12:06 AM Contract_Pilot: Another Month hahaha...
12:08 AM dave_: the waiting is the killer
12:08 AM Wolf__: hmm lathe manual for the DSL-1237GH says 22mm/ 7/8” lead screw lol
12:09 AM Wolf__: split that diff and .870 sounds right
12:09 AM Contract_Pilot: .866 is 20mm
12:10 AM Contract_Pilot: I di dot mic it just cheap china caliper
12:10 AM Wolf__: yeah, .866 ~ .875
12:10 AM Contract_Pilot: amazon is amazing got what i orderd last night today prime free ship.
12:11 AM Contract_Pilot: now all PC's have wifi...
12:14 AM Wolf__: cool
12:14 AM Wolf__: I’ll have to get over to the lathe and re-measure the feed screw opening
12:14 AM Contract_Pilot: I also have a lever
12:14 AM Wolf__: but sounds like it will work, I can always rig some way to make it work if its short by a inch
12:14 AM Wolf__: lever?
12:15 AM Contract_Pilot: Yea, spindle power
12:16 AM Wolf__: original owner was weird, only thing missing is the lead screw and thread dial, everything else is still there
12:20 AM IchGucksLive: hi
12:23 AM Wolf__: great, thread dial gear isnt standard for a 8 tpi?
12:34 AM Contract_Pilot: http://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/603F2105-6CC9-4121-8AA2-CEE3FE5E5E25-1024x768.jpeg
12:34 AM Contract_Pilot: that and the screw and rods all i have left for the take offs
12:35 AM Wolf__: screw is the only part I need =/
12:36 AM Contract_Pilot: K '
12:44 AM Contract_Pilot: So tormach tech siad that the verson of linux mint 17.3 is Realtime
12:44 AM Contract_Pilot: and V2 will accept OS updates only the Realtime Version?
01:54 AM Deejay: moin
02:00 AM Contract_Pilot: Deejay
02:01 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
02:07 AM Deejay_: öy
02:07 AM Deejay_ is now known as Deejay
02:23 AM Contract_Pilot is now known as C_P-Away
02:24 AM C_P-Away is now known as Contract_Pilot
04:48 AM IchGucksLive: hi
04:49 AM XXCoder: hey
04:49 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: heinz is away or
04:49 AM XXCoder: no idea I come in 30 min ago or so
04:50 AM IchGucksLive: its 2hr ago
04:50 AM XXCoder: I know, I can see time log :)
04:50 AM XXCoder: that is why I said I don't know, I myself come in 30 minues ago from work
04:52 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: so you are the main poster also in freecad
04:53 AM XXCoder: sometimes.
04:53 AM IchGucksLive: my main problem is the trimedifference to CA
04:56 AM XXCoder: yeah we chat because I have 2nd shift which is afternoon to late night
04:56 AM XXCoder: hey JT-Shop
04:57 AM jthornton: morning
05:14 AM IchGucksLive: ;.9
05:14 AM jthornton: hmm Missouri banned the sale of JD 303 hydraulic fluid
05:15 AM XXCoder: why?
05:16 AM Contract_Pilot: XX
05:16 AM jthornton: because someone lobbied that there are no specs on it so it can't be tested
05:17 AM jthornton: I assume it's just a way to stop the sale of cheap hydraulic fluid and boost the sales of more expensive fluid
05:17 AM XXCoder: it may be. it should be known on safety and such
05:17 AM XXCoder: what if it is super cancerous to us and wildlife
05:18 AM jthornton: na just won't meet modern lubrication specs... but for 50 year old machines who cares
05:18 AM jthornton: now I will have to drive to Arkansas to get cheap hydraulic fluid for the ole hoe
05:23 AM Contract_Pilot: 5056
05:24 AM XXCoder: doh
05:24 AM Contract_Pilot: kid is learning to set up a web server
05:25 AM Contract_Pilot: i have a 100mb/20mb cable connbection...
05:25 AM Contract_Pilot: 20mb should be fast enough for my small pages
05:26 AM Elmoo40: jthornton, what is the price of hydraulic oil?
05:27 AM jthornton: I've not bought any in a while so dunno
05:27 AM Elmoo40: up here it is about $1.82/L if you buy it by the 5gal pail
05:29 AM jthornton: is that Canadian dollars?
05:31 AM jthornton: hmm tractor supply still lists 303 for $23 for 5 gallons
05:33 AM jthornton: orschlens has removed 303 from their store so only universal heavy duty is sold for $35 a pail
06:10 AM jym: jthornton: Time to make a run for the border!
06:11 AM jym: jthornton: Smuggle some in across the (state) border, I've been doing it for years (MEK, Naphtha, etc)
06:12 AM jym: Everclear 151 is banned too, can only get the crap stuff
06:12 AM jym: 90
06:13 AM XXCoder: why was everclear banned
06:14 AM Tom_L: cause they drink wine in Ca not the hard stuff
06:15 AM jym: XXCoder: why knows, Bacardii 151 isn't banned
06:15 AM jym: who*
06:16 AM jym: It's the closest food grade alcohol I could food retail is the only reason I know.
06:16 AM jym: find*
06:16 AM jthornton: Tom_L: you got the cold wx yet?
06:17 AM jym: It's okey, cheap bottle of vodka seems to work fairly well for cleaning
06:18 AM jym: Glad I'm not drinking it though, tastes like shit
08:05 AM archivist: !later Heinz best to stay in channel so the german speakers can spot you and your question
08:05 AM the_wench: will tell Heinz when he/she joins next
08:08 AM Elmoo40: jthornton, no, converted to USD
08:11 AM JT-Shop: so your about $35 for 5 gallons of hydraulic oil?
08:11 AM Elmoo40: i suppose.
08:11 AM Elmoo40: $39.99CAD/pail, + $2.50 for gov't environmental fee, + 13% for TAX.
08:11 AM Elmoo40: comes to about $150 >_<
08:12 AM Elmoo40: ~$48CAD/pail
08:12 AM Elmoo40: so, ~38USD/pail
08:23 AM MarcelineVQ: poo, let the smoke outta my chinadriver and I don't know whether it was a dud that had it coming or I was being mean to it doing axis tests in stepconf
08:24 AM archivist: any bad connections and vibration
08:24 AM archivist: loose connections can kill drivers
08:25 AM MarcelineVQ: hmm quite possibly, it's all on a table at the moment, though the motors are on felt to keep them from vibrating too much. I'm still waiting for my ferrule kit to arrive
08:25 AM MarcelineVQ: It's a cheap driver so it could be anything really, which isn't great for narrowing down suspects
08:26 AM MarcelineVQ: and by cheap I mean the cheapest that comes with a sink, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/HY-DIV268N-5A-subdivision-type-two-phase-hybrid-stepping-motor-drive-using-DC-12-48V-power/32822244731.html
08:26 AM archivist: its the cable and connector vibration where you get an intermittent connection
08:27 AM archivist: that was so cheap some failures could be expected, keep spares in stock :)
08:28 AM archivist: picture of the inside for giggles?
08:28 AM MarcelineVQ: for sure. I'm ordering some spares at the moment :X it was rapid direction changes, could the emf be at issue there? I wonder how well connected the sink is
08:28 AM MarcelineVQ: I don't have a cam with me at the moment but I'll be doing an autopsy later, will try and get a pic or two
08:29 AM MarcelineVQ: there's only so many parts in those cases so it's probably the main driver chip if it's anything
08:30 AM MarcelineVQ: if one was gonna go it was that one though, it's not screwed together well compared to the other two :>
08:30 AM IchGucksLive: hi
08:30 AM MarcelineVQ: hello, what time is it in your part of germany?
08:32 AM IchGucksLive: 16,3
08:32 AM IchGucksLive: 15:32
08:32 AM MarcelineVQ: it's scary how much faster linuxcnc spins those motors compares to the code I was testing on my arduino, means none of my numbers I recorded mean anything at all
08:32 AM MarcelineVQ: IchGucksLive: do you code at all?
08:33 AM MarcelineVQ: if anyone does, have a glance at http://adventofcode.com/ it's pretty fun this year
08:42 AM Contract_Pilot: TB6600 = Fire
08:43 AM IchGucksLive: workes fine
08:43 AM MarcelineVQ: Contract_Pilot: what would you use instead for a little nema24?
08:44 AM archivist: a real leadshine driver is harder to kill
08:44 AM Contract_Pilot: Somthing with real mosfets
08:44 AM MarcelineVQ: Contract_Pilot: what specifically? :>
08:44 AM Contract_Pilot: M542
08:45 AM MarcelineVQ: thank you
08:46 AM MarcelineVQ: oh interesting this is min 400 step like the DM542, how does that line up with a 200r stepper? will the driver only run half-step minimally?
08:47 AM archivist: half step is a bit smoother, linuxcnc wont have any trouble driving it
08:49 AM MarcelineVQ: yep I've no problem using half-step, it's what I'm using currently for testing, just wondering how the driver operates in that regard
08:50 AM archivist: https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/stepper-motors-and-drives-what-is-full-step-half-step-and-microstepping
08:56 AM IchGucksLive: M542 are outdated
09:33 AM MarcelineVQ: I can't even recognise the pieces that got fried ehe, there's some color on the driver chip so there's probably no sense replacing the two burned bits even if I could figure out what they were
09:40 AM MarcelineVQ: quite odd, the bits that got fried I can't actually find in other boards that implement tb6600
09:45 AM MarcelineVQ: hmm one on each of the dc supply inputs
09:54 AM MarcelineVQ: sk36 diodes
09:55 AM MarcelineVQ: wonder if they didn't like the rapid direction change
10:02 AM MarcelineVQ: no idea why there's diodes there since the tb6600 circuit doesn't seem to describe any, not that I'm any expert
10:11 AM jym: MarcelineVQ: You fried the whole thing, or just once axis?
10:11 AM MarcelineVQ: 6500 doesn't require it either, oh well
10:11 AM MarcelineVQ: just one controller, two diodes and some color on the driver chip
10:11 AM jym: MarcelineVQ: Do you have any loose wiring/connections between the driver and motor?
10:12 AM jym: like during testing with temporary connections?
10:13 AM MarcelineVQ: not what would have considered loose. I did a tug test on the wires when assembling but that doesn't mean they were tight, it's stranded wire and I'm an amateur.
10:13 AM MarcelineVQ: Think I'll wait until ferrules arrive and redo those before trying again though
10:14 AM jym: Sounds reasonable. But any loose/intermittant connections between ANY driver/motor WILL fry the driver.
10:15 AM seb_kuzm1nsky is now known as seb_kuzminsky
10:16 AM MarcelineVQ: it's likely that's the cause, assuming the driver started out sound. it's the motor wire I'm least sure of in that it's finer than wire I prefer to use generally
10:16 AM jym: what gauge?
10:16 AM MarcelineVQ: spec says 22awg
10:16 AM jym: ewww
10:17 AM MarcelineVQ: yep
10:18 AM MarcelineVQ: I'm glad these little lessons are on the cheaper components at least
10:38 AM * JT-Shop should get some work done today somehow
10:38 AM gregcnc_: just turn the clocks back to 6am
10:59 AM * jym hits the Earth brake to turn back time on gregcnc_'s suggestion
11:02 AM gregcnc_: thx jym i'm running behind today too
11:04 AM * jthornton notices the lunch minute is up so back to work
11:17 AM * Loetmichel just had a similar experience, MarcelineVQ ... just started the christmas lights again after having them hang on the balcony railing for almost a year. Turns out that about 30% of the leds have been rusting their legs off... its low voltage stuff, but cant the chinese at least use some hot glue filled heat shrink to prevent that from drawing water into the led lead connections?
11:21 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:24 AM Stelios: Hello i have installed LCNC on myt computer and i am facing some problems installing the pci to parallel card that i have. I have the drivers on a cd but i cant fix it to see it on my pc
11:25 AM IchGucksLive: you dont need drivers
11:26 AM Loetmichel: IchGucksLive: careful
11:26 AM Loetmichel: there are pci cards that need drivers and there are some that dont
11:26 AM Loetmichel: pci lpt port cards i mean
11:27 AM Loetmichel: Stelios: whats the make of the card?
11:27 AM IchGucksLive: Stelios: plse look on ls pci
11:27 AM IchGucksLive: lspci in terminal
11:28 AM IchGucksLive: Stelios: and look at dmesg | grep parp*

11:31 AM IchGucksLive: post the otput if there is one
11:31 AM Loetmichel: and, if possible: tell us whats written on the chip on the card.
11:32 AM IchGucksLive: somthing like this 18.398392] parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
11:35 AM Stelios: ok i go do the dmesg and i am back to tell you

11:40 AM Stelios_: yeap!
11:40 AM Stelios_: i have the linux drivers for it but i cant make it work!
11:40 AM IchGucksLive: Stelios_: sorry you need to remount the card and tell us what chip is on it
11:40 AM Stelios_: ok give me a sec
11:41 AM IchGucksLive: then we know if your driver is the needed
11:41 AM Stelios_: i ll be back!

11:45 AM IchGucksLive: Debian ,Mint ,Ubuntu
11:45 AM IchGucksLive: Did you install from the Livecd
11:45 AM Stelios_: i just donwloaded and installed the debiancnc from linuxcnc.org
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: ok
11:46 AM Stelios_: so? is i fixable? or i have to buy a new parallel?
11:47 AM IchGucksLive: good news the card works

01:20 PM IchGucksLive: Stelios my Youtiube on linuxcnc https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: it may help you sometime
01:26 PM miss0r: Apparently this damn VFD here does not allow for me to 'release' the motor for deceleration. I need to specify a deceleration time... I have an external brake not handled by the VFD.. This is annoying
01:34 PM SpeedEvil: Does the brake brake hard?
01:35 PM SpeedEvil: I mean - if it's a hard brake, then you could set '0' and let it current limit teh decelleration
01:37 PM miss0r: That is an unknown for me. I have to go install this one on a lathe tomorrow
01:37 PM miss0r: The electric diagram does not specify this. But I would think so
01:37 PM miss0r: and I could set it to decelerate 999hz/sec. But the problem is, the motor could act as a generator and overload the link caps in the VFD
01:39 PM SpeedEvil: is there provision for a dump resistor?
01:39 PM miss0r: No :) Well. Its a trade, so theres no provision at all for extras :)
01:40 PM miss0r: hmm. BUT assuming it is hard braking, there won't be any energy build-up worth mentioning
01:40 PM miss0r: I guess I will have to wait and find out
01:54 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, it was chilly this morning
02:02 PM JT-Shop: it was 48F this morning and now it's 40F
02:08 PM Tom_L: gonna warm back up by the weekend
02:09 PM Tom_L: i can't decide which way to go on my Z column
02:10 PM MarcelineVQ: up
02:10 PM Tom_L: since i couldn't get what i wanted i came up with this using a 4" square which i have
02:10 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Column_Design2.jpg
02:10 PM Tom_L: and some angle tacked to the side to get the width i need
02:11 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Column_Design2_top.jpg
02:13 PM Tom_L: either way, i'm not going with the stationary column sticking out like in this pic:
02:13 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_base_XAxis3.jpg
02:14 PM Tom_L: it will have a standoff that moves instead
02:15 PM Tom_L: cad lets you play for cheap
02:15 PM JT-Shop: new design look much better than the smaller tubing weldment
02:15 PM Tom_L: with the angles attached?
02:15 PM Tom_L: the offset is because the screw is taller than the rails
02:18 PM JT-Shop: yea
02:19 PM Tom_L: i'll have them today so i can start narrowing the design down then
02:19 PM Tom_L: do you think with a counterweight direct driving Z would be ok? right now i figured a 3:1 pulley which i have
02:20 PM Tom_L: 5mm screw
02:21 PM Tom_L: i'm sure we've been over this before...
02:21 PM JT-Shop: Z usually doesn't have to move as fast as XY
02:24 PM Tom_L: i'll likely stick with the pulley arangement
02:24 PM Tom_L: i'd feel better knowing it's got a little more torque
02:40 PM phipli: JT-Shop?
02:41 PM phipli: jthornton?
02:51 PM JT-Shop: out here mate
02:52 PM phipli: got that camera working
02:52 PM phipli: took long enough - google was trying too hard to sell me one and wasn't giving good search results
02:53 PM phipli: no IR filter (intentional) - I think you can turn on a colour correction thing
02:53 PM phipli: but as it currently is, everything looks a little purple
02:53 PM JT-Shop: cool
02:54 PM JT-Shop: I had to pull a hen out of the coop last night, she was picking on anyone that got on the roost
02:54 PM Tom_L: typical female
02:55 PM phipli: starting to establish a pecking order
02:55 PM phipli: how many perches do you have?
02:57 PM JT-Shop: 2 but it's crowded, she had a privacy curtain now...
02:58 PM phipli: The highest perch is a prestigious thing usually
02:59 PM phipli: ours are odd... the top chicken lets the bottom chicken sit next to her
02:59 PM phipli: but our top chicken is weird
02:59 PM phipli: only in charge because she has no fear when it comes to food and fights even when it is stupid to
02:59 PM MarcelineVQ: in many group animals tops don't usually harass bottoms, tops harasses 2nd top
02:59 PM MarcelineVQ: and on down
03:00 PM MarcelineVQ: idk if that's the case for chickens, just an interesting thing
03:00 PM JT-Shop: both roosts are the same height, but I have a plan to increase the area and roosts
03:01 PM phipli: make one higher - it will keep the top chicken happier
03:03 PM JT-Shop: Henry has his spot and no one else is allowed to roost there, wonder what he will do when I change it lol
03:41 PM JT-Shop: dang gonna need the carhart insulated bibs to sit with the chickens at beer thirty
03:43 PM Tom_L: still chilly here too
03:51 PM hazzy: Anybody know of tuning software for the leadshine easyservos that will run on linux?
04:12 PM hazzy: This might serve as a start for making an alternative to Leadshine ProTuner: https://github.com/kentavv/leadshine_decode
04:13 PM * hazzy goes down to boot windoze so he can run ProTuner
04:33 PM Tom_L: ok i've got cad cam but i need to engrave some cursive text in a hunk of wood. what suggestions for software are there?
04:33 PM miss0r: DAMN! i've been trying to get this VFD to work for the past 4 hours, with no luck!
04:34 PM miss0r: wtf! I do this for a living, and I just can't make this damn thing work!
04:34 PM Deejay: gn8
04:34 PM DaViruz: miss0r: a danfoss? stay away from the danish stuff ;)
04:35 PM miss0r: its a speed commander.... danish :)
04:37 PM miss0r: Its this one: http://dev.speed-tech.dk/files/speedcommander/pdfvejledninger/speedcommanderbrugervejledningv520uk.pdf (The SC-3 7500 V5 model)
04:43 PM miss0r: fak! This is seriously annoying. I'm supposed to go install this unit on a lathe tomorrow. Just for the hell of it, I decided to get to know it a bit to seem more pro when i go to set it up. Apparently I just can't make it work :-/
04:44 PM Tom_L: good you found out now
04:46 PM miss0r: that depends :) Can I fix it? if not; I will get no sleep & I will have to look a fool tomorrow. Where as if I didn't find out now, I would just look a fool tomorrow
04:47 PM dave_: just got back from Cardiff , 500 mile round trip from Rotherham, with some running about
04:50 PM andypugh: miss0r: I assume you have tried a factory reset?
04:51 PM miss0r: yeah
04:51 PM andypugh: How many times? :-)
04:52 PM miss0r: Plenty by now :]
04:52 PM miss0r: I've been at it a few hours.
04:52 PM miss0r: And I know the unit is working : I have three simular units, that are all doing the same stuff. And if I choose a different program, I can get some functionality out of them
04:53 PM miss0r: but the different programs are not what I want :) I want a regular VFD (program 0), and it just says 'off' no matter what... I haven't tried screaming at it yet, but I am dangerously close to try that solution
04:54 PM DaViruz: miss0r: get a proper Swedish ABB ;)
04:54 PM miss0r: DaViruz: That is actualy my preferred drive, no doubt. But These landed in my lab
04:55 PM DaViruz: it's hard to poke fun when you agree :(
04:55 PM andypugh: miss0r: Front panel on/off not working, nor hard-wired?
04:55 PM dave_: chinese vfd?
04:55 PM miss0r: andypugh: front panel does not have any on/off function. and the hard-wired solution does not yeild anything
04:56 PM miss0r: dave_: most certainly not :) Danish made
04:56 PM DaViruz: even worse!
04:56 PM dave_: lol
04:56 PM DaViruz: at least the chinese kids are sober when they assemble them!
04:56 PM dave_ is now known as gloopsr
04:56 PM * miss0r slaps DaViruz with a hardcover edition of the complete windowsME bug list
04:56 PM Tom_L: surprised you could lift it
04:57 PM miss0r: Tom_L: I had help ;)
04:57 PM gloopsr: not familiar with many danish products, only bread and bacon
05:03 PM miss0r: I seriously have no clue what the hell is going on here !
05:03 PM gloopsr: parameter settings maybe?
05:06 PM miss0r: Could be. but there are like 15 or so
05:06 PM miss0r: And i've been pouring over this manual for HOURS now
05:06 PM * miss0r is going slightly mad - quote
05:07 PM gloopsr: oh yeah, with mine had it set for 0-5v pwm, i was using 0-10v - not a peep until i found it, well, relay was clicking that was it
05:08 PM Tom_L: post the manual for new eyes to gander over
05:08 PM Tom_L: or is it not a pdf
05:09 PM miss0r: http://dev.speed-tech.dk/files/speedcommander/pdfvejledninger/speedcommanderbrugervejledningv520uk.pdf
05:09 PM miss0r: (This is the manual for program 0, which is it set to)
05:10 PM miss0r: I just had the idea that perhaps the motor I was testing with was too small for it to registere (only 90watts) so I placed it in front of the lathe(18kw) and this is giving the same result
05:10 PM miss0r: I can use the panel to jog the motor - that is working like it should. I just can't get it to do anything else
05:11 PM Tom_L: what interface?
05:11 PM Tom_L: serial?
05:11 PM gloopsr: have you checkd to see if the pwn signal is actually being sent?
05:11 PM Tom_L: i've not worked with vfd yet but i'm sure someone here has
05:11 PM gloopsr: pwm
05:12 PM miss0r: At the moment I'm trying to just run it as forward reverse
05:12 PM gloopsr: off a relay?
05:12 PM miss0r: with switches, as program 0 is intented. I've replaced the 10k potmeter, with a connection from +10v to input ~ max power
05:13 PM gloopsr: ahh
05:13 PM miss0r: gloopsr: hardwired, wires directly from one terminal to the next
05:14 PM miss0r: It was set to another program when I got it, and that registered weather I had an input on terminal 8, so the electronics is working it seems. something else is amiss
05:14 PM gloopsr: seperate on/off?
05:14 PM Tom_L: you got it used?
05:14 PM gloopsr: 5v
05:15 PM DaViruz: miss0r: you have voltage on terminal 7?
05:15 PM DaViruz: and 8 i suppose
05:15 PM miss0r: gloopsr: Seperate on/off? its a 10 volt system
05:15 PM gloopsr: hard to remember as i do mine by instict now, but i have to trigger on, - then rev it up with 0-10v
05:15 PM miss0r: Tom_L: yes
05:16 PM miss0r: DaViruz: Yes
05:16 PM Tom_L: the inputs go to it through protective diodes?
05:16 PM miss0r: Look at 2.13 in the manual. I have it mounted like it recommends there
05:17 PM Tom_L: is the polarity of those right?
05:17 PM Tom_L: by diodes i mean leds
05:17 PM Tom_L: isolation
05:17 PM miss0r: Tom_L: I'm not sure I follow you
05:18 PM Tom_L: the inputs are isolated with optos right?
05:18 PM Tom_L: is the input signal the right polarity for them
05:19 PM gloopsr: spindle on/off is a 5v relay, speed is 0-10v, obviously not talking about the same vfd here, the relay does not start the spindle moving, both the relay has to be triggered and only then increasing the 0-10v does the spindle turn
05:19 PM miss0r: Tom_L: I can only assume . thoes must be inside the VFD
05:19 PM Tom_L: G
05:19 PM Tom_L: a
05:19 PM Tom_L: l
05:19 PM Tom_L: v
05:19 PM Tom_L: a
05:20 PM miss0r: ...
05:20 PM Tom_itx: irc didn't like that :)
05:23 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
05:23 PM miss0r: Nope :)
05:23 PM miss0r: Look at the 2.11 control inputs
05:23 PM miss0r: That 'should' work while I run program 0
05:23 PM miss0r: But it has decided that I should get no sleep tonight
05:23 PM DaViruz: have you tried hitting it?
05:23 PM miss0r: I will have to step it up to that soon.
05:25 PM Tom_L: A: you got this used. B: it didn't come set in program 0
05:25 PM Tom_L: makes me wonder
05:26 PM gloopsr: sleep on it
05:26 PM Tom_L: yeah i would
05:26 PM miss0r: yeah well, when I wake up in the morning I have to install it on someone elses lathe
05:26 PM Tom_L: so they might be down a day or two
05:26 PM miss0r: unless all I have is a somewhat heavy paper weight
05:26 PM Tom_L: them's the breaks
05:27 PM DaViruz: if you set parameter F to display the output frequency, does it display anything other than 0, and does it correspond to the speed input?
05:27 PM miss0r: DaViruz: The display says off
05:28 PM gloopsr: you are testing that these voltages are actually going where they should?
05:28 PM DaViruz: though if it doesnt magnetise i suppose it's not really a speed setting problem
05:28 PM miss0r: gloopsr: On the terminals, they are going where they should, I've measured
05:28 PM gloopsr: not just assuming because the wires are in place they are
05:28 PM miss0r: DaViruz: When I use the TIP option, which is like a manual jog, I can get it to output what I want on the display, while doing it in manual
05:29 PM miss0r: But I cannot for the life of me get it to do anything with the terminals
05:29 PM gloopsr: the trip on this is a relay with quite a few settings, no click when you fire it up?
05:30 PM gloopsr: like, it isnt tripping OFF staright away
05:30 PM Tom_L: damn, i just got a nice heavy package
05:30 PM miss0r: gloopsr: Nothing. The 'E' parameter is also 0, which indicates 'no error'
05:31 PM DaViruz: kind of seems like it's busted
05:32 PM gloopsr: its just one of those stupid things, drives you insane till you find it
05:32 PM gloopsr: Tom_L from china?
05:32 PM miss0r: DaViruz: I have another drive just like it, and its the same thing. but when I put it into ANY OTHER program, it reacts to the on/off input
05:32 PM DaViruz: :O
05:32 PM DaViruz: that's bothersome
05:34 PM gloopsr: i need to make some orders for some small sundry bits, motor brackets and stuff, to get here for xmas
05:34 PM gloopsr: dont want to be short of some stupid bit when i get the time to complete
05:35 PM miss0r: DaViruz: indeed
05:38 PM DaViruz: tried connecting with their software?
05:40 PM miss0r: I have not
05:40 PM DaViruz: oh, you need their hocus pocus usb device
05:41 PM miss0r: unless its just a usb to serial converter?
05:41 PM DaViruz: it definitely is, i noticed it uses ftdi drivers
05:41 PM DaViruz: possibly RS485 though
05:41 PM miss0r: rs-232 it says
05:42 PM DaViruz: http://dev.speed-tech.dk/files/usbconverter/usbconverterv101uk.pdf
05:42 PM DaViruz: their converter seems to do both
05:42 PM DaViruz: probably one for the door controllers and one for the vfd's
05:42 PM DaViruz: oh, it even says which products uses which
05:43 PM miss0r: fak... I left the usb to serial converter at work
05:44 PM miss0r: it... just...doesnt.. END!
05:45 PM gloopsr: sure it ends lol
05:45 PM gloopsr: you know the problem miss0r, youre setting too many impossible deadlines here
05:45 PM miss0r: Good thing I have this old PC with native serial
05:46 PM DaViruz: it could be worse, you could have a customer watching over your shoulder
05:46 PM gloopsr: this vfd issue isnt the problem, the problem is time
05:46 PM gloopsr: time pressure is a killer
05:48 PM miss0r: no doubt. But when I started looking it over, I had plenty ;)
05:49 PM DaViruz: i should get some sleep, for some reason they expect me at work in the morning
05:50 PM miss0r: Yeah. Thanks for the help ;)
05:51 PM DaViruz: i wish i had been of some help :/
05:51 PM gloopsr: yeah me too, started at 6 this morning, on the road from 7 to 10.30ish, back at it at 7, roll on xmas
05:51 PM miss0r: you tried
05:54 PM gloopsr: and i cannot say i reccomend the fish and chips in Cardiff, £8 - mediochre
07:12 PM * hazzy is back, after tuning the drives and being reminded how much he hates windows
07:34 PM skunkworks: linuxcnc is what turned me on to linux...
07:34 PM Tom_L: same here, that and my server
07:36 PM Tom_L: yay! http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Rail_Goodies.jpg
07:41 PM skunkworks: we have multiple servers at work running Linux now because of it
07:42 PM Tom_L: 19:42:03 up 344 days, 8:17, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.05
08:26 PM hazzy: Yes, same here. I doubt I would have ever started using linux if it weren't for LCNC
09:56 PM McBride36 is now known as Guest47184
10:14 PM hazzy: Quite here tonight, I guess everyone is bundled up by the fire with some hot cocoa or coffee and a book, or somethin' like that :)
10:15 PM Tom_L: no just drooling over my parts
10:15 PM Tom_L: figuring out the fastener situation
10:16 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Rail_Goodies.jpg
10:16 PM hazzy: Ah, looks good, i'd be doing some drooling too!
10:17 PM SpeedEvil is now known as Guest57190
10:17 PM hazzy: That is a big chunk of aly? Is that for the table?
10:17 PM Tom_L: yes
10:17 PM Tom_L: ~9 x 30
10:18 PM Tom_L: just under 1"
10:18 PM Tom_L: the plates to mount it and Z are 1/2"
10:18 PM hazzy: Very nice, that is a good size. Same as my RF45
10:18 PM Tom_L: to the linear blocks
10:20 PM Tom_L: so i can verify all the hole patterns in cad now too and start preparing the plates
10:28 PM CaptHindsight: hazzy: Mach3?
10:36 PM CaptHindsight: who makes the stepping motors mit the good bearings in nema23?
10:36 PM BitEvil is now known as SpeedEvil
10:37 PM hazzy: CaptHindsight: Yes, I used to be a big fan of Mach3
10:37 PM hazzy: and of windows ...
10:37 PM SpeedEvil: CaptHindsight: spongebob squarepants?
10:37 PM CaptHindsight: courtesy of mach3 https://ibin.co/3i1iVPLD79k1.jpg
10:38 PM hazzy: Ouch
10:39 PM hazzy: Which bug caused that? :D
10:39 PM CaptHindsight: it missed der steps
10:39 PM hazzy: Ah, that would do it
10:39 PM CaptHindsight: and hitzen das tabel
10:39 PM CaptHindsight: twice!
10:40 PM Tom_L: once would have been enough for me
10:40 PM CaptHindsight: a dis is mit DC servos
10:41 PM CaptHindsight: step dir servo drives
10:41 PM CaptHindsight: this machine was retrofitted by an "automation engineer"
10:42 PM CaptHindsight: has $3K of AB PLC and touch display
10:44 PM CaptHindsight: windows did have a real time kernel years ago
10:44 PM Tom_L: what do those vises cost?
10:44 PM CaptHindsight: was in the mid 90's
10:45 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: the Shars?
10:45 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:45 PM CaptHindsight: I'll check mit das vebsites
10:45 PM Tom_L: i was running flashcut cnc back then
10:45 PM Tom_L: i may have gone a bit too far with this design
10:46 PM Tom_L: i bet it weighs upwards of 300 lbs by the time it's done
10:46 PM Tom_L: maybe not quite that much but close
10:47 PM CaptHindsight: $320 http://www.shars.com/products/toolholding-workholding/vise/6-690v-cnc-milling-machine-vise-0-0004-1
10:47 PM Tom_L: do they make a smaller one?
10:47 PM Tom_L: like around 4"
10:48 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.shars.com/products/toolholding-workholding/vise
10:48 PM CaptHindsight: looks like $250 for a 4"
10:49 PM Tom_L: probably cheaper than kurt
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: I have no problems with mine
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: I'd buy used Kurts if they had them local
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: I pick up at Shars
10:49 PM Tom_L: my bud has a huge one
10:49 PM Tom_L: like 10 or 12"
10:49 PM CaptHindsight: don't know what shipping might be
10:50 PM CaptHindsight: I use two side by side
10:50 PM Tom_L: and the more common 6 & 8"
10:50 PM CaptHindsight: I'll probably get a bigger one
10:50 PM Tom_L: he got it used but i'm not sure what for
10:50 PM CaptHindsight: sometime 2 just don't hold the parts well enough
10:51 PM CaptHindsight: chatter on materials in the gap
10:51 PM Tom_L: yeah we were running some long stringers that way. had the side door open sticking way out the end
10:52 PM Tom_L: like 4 vises lined up
10:52 PM Tom_L: iirc that machine had at least 50" in x
10:53 PM Tom_L: that 4" vise would do quite well for me i think
11:02 PM hazzy: Since my name is Kurt, I always wanted a Kurt vise, but I could not afford one. Several years ago my brother found an old ENCO vise in the dumpster at GTech, and knowing my desire he made it a "Kurt" and gave it to me for my bday: https://i.imgur.com/IHltnrv.jpg
11:02 PM hazzy: hehe
11:04 PM hazzy: Funny thing is that all the BME students at tech now have to make a "Kurt" plaque as their first part on the haas during training
11:08 PM CaptHindsight: Budapest University of Technology and Economics?
11:10 PM CaptHindsight: https://imagebin.ca/v/2RuHAsYVLA7N two Shars on the table
11:17 PM CaptHindsight: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/tls/d/kurt-6-ang-lock-precision/6411954398.html I haven't looked for one in months
11:33 PM IchGucksLive: hi
11:45 PM hazzy: CaptHindsight: Georgia Institute of Technology, and BME => Biomedical Engineering
11:46 PM IchGucksLive: hazzy: utha nees more drill man
11:46 PM IchGucksLive: also miners are welcome ;-)
11:47 PM CaptHindsight: Utah?
11:47 PM IchGucksLive: as DT gave some acers to his mining company
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: IchGucksLive: did you get buried in snow yet?
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: this year
11:48 PM IchGucksLive: now its melting as fast as it can at 10deg C plus
11:49 PM hazzy: That is interesting IchGucksLive, and I am glad to hear it. We need to do some more drilling, we have plenty of resources, but we are too scared to get at them because of environmental concerns
11:50 PM hazzy: Ok, time for bed here
11:50 PM hazzy: gn8
11:50 PM CaptHindsight: it's not the drilling it's the carelessness of the industry
11:50 PM IchGucksLive: agrees as Yelowstone will somwhen destroy the US it is lost anyway
11:54 PM CaptHindsight: IchGucksLive: heading off to class?
11:54 PM IchGucksLive: yes
11:54 PM CaptHindsight: are you there every day except weekends?
11:55 PM IchGucksLive: no
11:55 PM IchGucksLive: its examina time and for Q is a "pro" in room
