01:05 AM IchGucksLive: morning
01:07 AM XXCoder: log?
01:07 AM XXCoder: ;log
01:07 AM XXCoder: $log
01:07 AM IchGucksLive: its still asleep XXCoder
01:07 AM XXCoder: guess so
01:07 AM IchGucksLive: as most of the US is as shopping has been crasy
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: there it is
01:08 AM XXCoder: yep
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: so one our logging gone or no traffic at all
01:09 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: has some cnc stuff also gone cheeper at BF
01:09 AM XXCoder: BF?
01:12 AM IchGucksLive: black friday
01:12 AM XXCoder: oh didnt bother to go for friday shopping
01:18 AM IchGucksLive: im off for garden
01:57 AM R2E4: Hiya all.
01:59 AM Deejay: moin
02:39 AM R2E4: Anyone know about the roller pinion nexen?
02:40 AM R2E4: https://www.nexengroup.com/nxn/products/prod-nav/lp/Roller+Pinion+System
02:41 AM archivist: er wot! /me boggled at the claims
02:42 AM R2E4: huh?
02:43 AM R2E4: I wanna make those...
02:43 AM gloops: like a pinwheel drive
02:43 AM archivist: but this old idea is patented
02:43 AM gloops: same as chain in all respects
02:44 AM R2E4: I dont want to sell it, I want to use it.
02:44 AM R2E4: supposedly no backlash
02:44 AM gloops: only not as good as chain
02:44 AM gloops: only got one or two pins engaging the rack there
02:44 AM archivist: I just dont believe 0 backlash
02:45 AM R2E4: there's three pins engaging
02:45 AM R2E4: 0 backlash is hard to believe I agree.
02:45 AM archivist: "RPS engages two teeth simultaneously"
02:45 AM archivist: not three
02:45 AM archivist: other is rattling fit
02:46 AM gloops: are the teeth rollers? or just teeth
02:46 AM R2E4: It is very expensive.
02:46 AM archivist: look like pressed in pins
02:47 AM R2E4: The rack has teeth, the roller , those have bearings
02:47 AM gloops: well even if you have a tight fit, thats gonna wear
02:47 AM R2E4: pressed in bearings
02:47 AM archivist: bearings have play
02:48 AM R2E4: I installed this on a friends 5X12 table with servos and it is amazing
02:48 AM archivist: I think you would also need to spring/force the two together
02:48 AM R2E4: but very expensive, he [paid around 6000 for just those rack and roller pinions
02:49 AM archivist: looks like ground all over to get the figures
02:49 AM gloops: 6000 dollars!
02:49 AM gloops: i dont mind a bot of backlash
02:50 AM gloops: ill pre-tension it by hand before pay that lol
02:51 AM R2E4: https://www.facebook.com/MichelTrahan/videos/10212993729420283/
02:51 AM archivist: I think high prices colours peoples judgement
02:52 AM gloops: cant view it R2
02:53 AM R2E4: ah, got to login facebook, let me see if I can get oit out of facebook.
03:06 AM R2E4: ITs alot smoother than rack and pinion
03:08 AM archivist: rack and pinion depends on quality of gears, can be as smooth as you are willing to pay for
03:08 AM gloops: well a pointed tooth needs clearance to fit, a roller doesnt, but the roller spindle needs clearance to turn
03:09 AM R2E4: https://videobin.org/+nlh/s0s.html
03:09 AM archivist: helical rack is very smooth
03:10 AM R2E4: Yeah I have a bad experience with cheap rack and pinion from cnc routerparts.
03:11 AM R2E4: pinion wears, the bearing pivot where the timing pully is wears loose......
03:11 AM R2E4: So I am searching for better solution.
03:12 AM R2E4: its not helical.
03:12 AM archivist: all methods have some wear, what is the important specification you need
03:13 AM R2E4: I have to change the timing pully assembly every three to 4 months....
03:13 AM R2E4: thats excessive
03:13 AM archivist: use larger ones
03:13 AM archivist: yours must be undersized
03:13 AM R2E4: its the way it is designed.
03:14 AM archivist: fix the design :)
03:14 AM R2E4: the timing pully undersized?
03:14 AM archivist: if it wears that quickly yes
03:15 AM Wolf__: any drive system that is under sized will wear quick
03:15 AM R2E4: the pulley is not wearing.... the shaft and bolt it is attached to wears, and then can move the timing belt, it gets loose
03:16 AM archivist: enlarge the wearing stuff so that does not happen
03:16 AM archivist: bigger shafts and bearings
03:16 AM Wolf__: then the shaft/bolt/bearings are under sized
03:17 AM R2E4: I am going to change the design.... but thought about fabricating the roller pinion...
03:17 AM gloops: shaft and bolt - what is the timing pulley attached to?
03:17 AM Wolf__: ugh, I’m back looking at DRO systems for my manual machines… again lol
03:18 AM archivist: I keep finding the odd bit of renishaw :)
03:18 AM R2E4: http://www.cncrouterparts.com/standard-rack-and-pinion-drive-nema-23-p-50.html
03:18 AM Wolf__: I haven’t been looking, should be moving the mill/lathe and all the bits I’m buying in about 2 weeks
03:19 AM R2E4: I am removing my steppers and put mesa 7i77 with yaskawa ac servo and drives. I have them already.
03:19 AM R2E4: I just went through that Wolf
03:20 AM R2E4: I have a 12,000 lbs router and 8,000 lbs vmc
03:20 AM Wolf__: this is small stuff so shouldn’t be bad, 600lb lathe and 1100lb mill
03:20 AM R2E4: both on linuxcnc...btw
03:21 AM Wolf__: except that they are both in a basement with only a narrow stairwell access
03:21 AM archivist: separate to smaller parts mebe
03:21 AM R2E4: I have 3 1kw ac servo and 1 1.8kw ac servo yaskawa..... waiting for mesa to get 8i20's in.
03:22 AM R2E4: they single phase machines?
03:22 AM gloops: what are you cutting with this R2?
03:22 AM Wolf__: going to bring a track loader there to lift them lol
03:22 AM R2E4: wow, wouldnt want to do that me....
03:22 AM Wolf__: both 3 phase, but the lathe has a 110 stuck on it right now
03:22 AM R2E4: You guys know what a colchester student lathe is?
03:23 AM R2E4: can I put a single phas 220 motor on it?be strong enough you think?
03:23 AM Wolf__: what size/
03:23 AM R2E4: motor 2hp?
03:24 AM Wolf__: 13/40 lathe I’m picking up has a pretty small motor on it right now
03:24 AM R2E4: you have 3 phase in your basement?
03:24 AM Wolf__: one machine has a converter box on it
03:25 AM R2E4: rotary ?
03:27 AM Wolf__: no, phase-a-matic thinger, https://i.imgur.com/LxiIeKA.jpg small mill, and small lathe https://i.imgur.com/WjcmWDV.jpg
04:55 AM XXCoder: https://interestingengineering.com/this-engineering-software-giant-is-giving-away-its-products-for-free
04:55 AM XXCoder: nice! too bad im not student
05:01 AM archivist: XXCoder, plenty do that to get you hooked
05:02 AM XXCoder: yep lol though dont nbeed one now and dunno in future lol
06:10 AM XXCoder: lol https://www.banggood.com/Miniature-Precision-Milling-Machine-Bench-Multifunction-Drill-Vise-Fixture-Worktable-p-1027924.html?
06:11 AM XXCoder: can convrt drill to minimill I guess :P
06:17 AM rene-dev: R2E4: what kind of encoders do they have?
06:40 AM XXCoder: archivist: https://www.banggood.com/Raitool-220V-Mini-Beads-Lathe-Machine-Household-Lathe-DIY-Wood-Beads-Woodworking-Machine-Tools-p-1199225.html lol
06:40 AM XXCoder: lathe/mill combo
06:47 AM archivist: XXCoder, that last one is worth a tenth of its price
06:48 AM XXCoder: it does look crappy heh
06:48 AM archivist: you do it properly for a job, stop looking at this crap :)
06:49 AM XXCoder: i wasnt looking for that thing just saw it in list and lol'd
06:50 AM XXCoder: 123 blocks is so cheap at banggood
06:50 AM XXCoder: precision is supposed around .0001" but likely .001"
06:50 AM XXCoder: no 246 block tho dang
07:06 AM gloops: 3 bits of 100x40 left to cut
07:07 AM gloops: looking at this, the steel gets thicker and thicker as the machine gets higher, doesnt seem right
07:08 AM * archivist parses that sentence in terms of a milling machine for giggles
07:09 AM gloops: i went for an eye level spindle
07:20 AM JT-Mobile: mornimg
07:21 AM archivist: back already!
07:21 AM XXCoder: brief nap eh
07:22 AM JT-Mobile: lol
07:22 AM archivist: all the lonely chickens back home
07:23 AM JT-Mobile: yep I'm sure I've been replaced by Rickey by now lol
07:25 AM XXCoder: would be funny if there was time limit to being away before you are replaced by someone else in your role
07:33 AM JT-Mobile: it might vary between the chickens, I'd imagine the ones that don't interact as much would forget quicker
07:34 AM XXCoder: lol not quite what I meant but cool
07:44 AM JT-Mobile: dang windoze blue screen of death
07:45 AM XXCoder: fancy
08:05 AM MacGalempsy: morning
08:06 AM XXCoder: yo
08:08 AM IchGucksLive: hi
08:10 AM XXCoder: hey
08:10 AM MacGalempsy: hows it going today?
08:11 AM XXCoder: bored
08:11 AM MacGalempsy: me too. been working :/
08:11 AM XXCoder: i had holiday on thursday, so long weekend of 4 days now
08:13 AM MacGalempsy: awesome. we had some vendors bring food out for 3 days in a row
08:13 AM MacGalempsy: this last day made me laugh because the main guy brow beat a company into bringing out food and it was awsome.
08:14 AM MacGalempsy: the problem was that he though he called our company, which is Impac and he called Impact
08:14 AM MacGalempsy: Impact doesnt even have any work on this rig xD
08:14 AM XXCoder: lol
08:16 AM MacGalempsy: they must have been thinking this is their chance to pickup some work, so the spread was fat
08:19 AM XXCoder: lol fancy
08:20 AM IchGucksLive: till later
08:31 AM MacGalempsy: XXCoder, how is your router working out?
08:31 AM JT-Mobile: yo
08:31 AM XXCoder: its in closet for next forseenable future
08:31 AM MacGalempsy: any sweet final pics?
08:31 AM MacGalempsy: hey JT
08:31 AM XXCoder: we planned to build shop but it wont happen till maybe 2019
08:32 AM MacGalempsy: cool. got a good lead on an office job, so we may be building a shop at one of the houses in OKC
08:32 AM XXCoder: it sucks
08:32 AM XXCoder: basement concerete is leaking water
08:33 AM XXCoder: very bad when raining
08:33 AM MacGalempsy: ;(
08:33 AM MacGalempsy: PAC NW is like that all the time?
08:33 AM XXCoder: yep thats why its very bad
08:33 AM XXCoder: trying to fix that as soon as possible
08:34 AM MacGalempsy: what are the potential fixes?
08:34 AM XXCoder: dunno we gonna dig up see whats happening
08:34 AM MacGalempsy: JT-Mobile: Are you going to ride this weekend? It has been awesome weather
08:34 AM MacGalempsy: sounds mucky
08:34 AM JT-Mobile: we are on a van trip to Branson with the core biker gang
08:35 AM MacGalempsy: Nice. Going to catch a show?
08:35 AM XXCoder: MacGalempsy: its concerete basement which means gonna break it and dig under it
08:36 AM MacGalempsy: so are you thinking broken pipe or natural seepage?
08:36 AM XXCoder: it gets worse in rains but also leaks when dry
08:36 AM XXCoder: so both im pretty sure
08:37 AM JT-Mobile: lol we went to one but it was lame so left at half time
08:39 AM JT-Mobile: XXCoder, leaking in a crack?
08:39 AM XXCoder: yeah
08:39 AM JT-Mobile: I think there is some expanding stuff that you can inject in the crack to seal it off
08:39 AM MacGalempsy: After my third time there in one summer, I just go to the go karts and 50's diner for funnel cakes
08:39 AM XXCoder: yeah but with cause being unknown we have to find out. nice tip though
08:39 AM MacGalempsy: XXCoder: I was thinking about some kind of sprayable grout and sealer
08:40 AM MacGalempsy: like, just coat the hell out of it, then sell the house before it starts again
08:40 AM XXCoder: sell? we just bought it
08:40 AM MacGalempsy: oh crap. was the leak disclosed by the seller?
08:41 AM XXCoder: it looks new unfortunately
08:41 AM MacGalempsy: >(
08:41 AM XXCoder: upstairs tub definitely badly installed though we plan to get seller to fix that
08:42 AM XXCoder: well laters
08:42 AM MacGalempsy: bye
08:43 AM JT-Mobile: bye
08:43 AM MacGalempsy: what has been new in the linuxcnc world in the last 8months?
08:44 AM MacGalempsy: being stuck on location has made it difficult to keep up on the channel
09:00 AM dioz: nothing
10:15 AM * Tom_L didn't know JT-Mobile was in a hardcore biker gang :)
10:16 AM archivist: granny and grandad gang :)
10:57 AM gloops: rubber roller repair - no mold required
10:57 AM gloops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCLfcGupZu8
11:27 AM MarcelineVQ: gloops: haha, that comment underneath. I'd be like "sure no problem, do you want us to give you our machines too?"
11:50 AM gloops: yeah was kinda hoping theyd replied lol
11:55 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:57 AM IchGucksLive: TetzlaffTobias: online ?
12:02 PM * gloops suspects a touch of flash
12:05 PM MarcelineVQ: flash?
12:05 PM gloops: welding flash
12:06 PM MarcelineVQ: what's the context though hehe, you think you've been flashed?
12:07 PM gloops: yeah, had given up for today through boredom, came in, then decided to go back and tack last 2 pieces up, not concentrating, definately got me in one eye i think
12:07 PM gloops: ill know for sure in the middle of the night heh
12:07 PM MarcelineVQ: if you're not used oti flash you- yeah haha
12:08 PM gloops: was about 18 last time i got it, pretty scary
12:39 PM IchGucksLive: 168maiils today on cnc 140+ on M3 no answer DEL
12:40 PM gloops: lol
12:40 PM IchGucksLive: YT does not accept a aurto Replay
12:41 PM gloops: any attractive females among them Ichs?
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: i woudt unswerr on M3 get rid use LCNC
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: did pink show up resenly
12:42 PM gloops: hmm cant remember seeing pink no
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: ad your YT channel only one VID
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: DB1205 M3
12:42 PM MarcelineVQ: IchGucksLive: autoreplay? are you wanting to loop a video?
12:42 PM IchGucksLive: and yiou are bussy
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: MarcelineVQ: on the mails
12:43 PM gloops: Ichs yeah, hard to think now that wiring up a BOB was such a mystery
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: it woudt be good to get all VID in a playlist but only 5 allowed
12:44 PM gloops: but its something most diy cncers go through i suppose
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: even pros :P do wirer STEP Dir wrong f there is a spell change
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: some people fear on red wire
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: and if it comes 2 more then 2wire some are all ourt
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel:
12:46 PM Loetmichel: hmm?
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: today i solderd my precision millng
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: a nightmare on tiny routs
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: i will stay on 1mm isolation and prefer bridges
12:47 PM IchGucksLive: 0,2mm iso is to tiny it will overjump by solder
12:47 PM IchGucksLive: 0,6 min i guess
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: or i do need a more expensive solder station
12:49 PM Loetmichel: i actually do 0.1mm iso routes
12:49 PM Loetmichel: its just a thing of experience with soldering
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: you are a real pro
12:49 PM Loetmichel: you can do it id you are used to it
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: im a thickfinger old metall man
12:50 PM IchGucksLive: i had to sharpen my solder iron first
12:50 PM IchGucksLive: as the first solder piin jumped 3 routes
12:50 PM Loetmichel: i am old as well... recently i had to upgrade from a "lesebrille" to a 10 times magnifying "lupenbrille" to do 0,5mm pitch smd connectors :-(
12:51 PM IchGucksLive: yes there is a time you need a lupe
12:54 PM Loetmichel: the magic on doing really small precision soldering is A) LOTS of light and B) SEE what you are doing, magnify it to a scale you can SEE how you are jittering around... its amazing how steady your hand can be if you have a good feedback via sight.
12:55 PM Loetmichel: ... and of course dring a bit of "zielwasser" if its a bad day like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_p_eIInq9M&t=211s
12:55 PM IchGucksLive: im off gn8
12:56 PM Loetmichel: ( which sadly isnt an option at work )
12:56 PM MarcelineVQ: Do you use a hot air gun for smd?
12:56 PM Loetmichel: MAAAAN i hate that when someone goes off in the middle of a conversation
12:56 PM Loetmichel: MarcelineVQ: nope, see the vid
12:57 PM MarcelineVQ: dang. I've seen hot air vids that make smd bearable, I can't imagine how awful this must be by hand. Eventually I'll have to do this myself and I'm dreading hehe
12:58 PM Wolf__: I had a guy who made ham radio stuff suggest to do SMD soldering with a hotplate
12:58 PM Loetmichel: its actually easy... even with that 2mm wide cisel tip on the iron
12:58 PM Loetmichel: chisel
12:58 PM Loetmichel: ... once you have enough alcohol in the blood to stop the tremor... AND a bunch of experience in soldering ;)
12:59 PM MarcelineVQ: hoho
12:59 PM gloops: cheers
12:59 PM Loetmichel: see the vid, those were 0805 resistors. and i had QUITE a bad "getting the shakes" day.
01:00 PM Wolf__: doing stuff like that with reflow is so much easier
01:00 PM Loetmichel: it is indeed
01:00 PM Loetmichel: but we have no reflow oven at the company.
01:00 PM Wolf__: electric hotplate/griddle
01:00 PM Loetmichel: so i do my prototypes the "conventional" way
01:01 PM Loetmichel: and get the series manufactured completely
01:01 PM MarcelineVQ: how hot does reflow need to be with typical solder?
01:01 PM Loetmichel: MarcelineVQ: to do it right you have to drive a particular temperature/time curve
01:01 PM Loetmichel: not only a single temperature
01:02 PM MarcelineVQ: hmm I see
01:02 PM Wolf__: that solder tip looks huge lol
01:02 PM Loetmichel: there are cheap conversion sets out there with a thermistor and a microcontroller/SCR to convert a pizza oven to a reflow oven
01:02 PM Loetmichel: Wolf__: 2mm wide chisel tip
01:03 PM Loetmichel: i am usually to lazy to change it to something more fitting to smd ;)
01:03 PM Wolf__: I use a weller WMR (IIRC) with a 1.5mm
01:04 PM Wolf__: yup I was wrong lol, its a 1.3x0.4mm chisel
01:06 PM Wolf__: when you need to test something but too lazy to make a board https://i.imgur.com/MtZNzBT.jpg lol
01:09 PM Tom_L: epoxy it and you're done
01:09 PM MarcelineVQ: looks about as legit as the insides of my battery charger
01:10 PM MarcelineVQ: patent it and you're golden
01:26 PM gloops: very good diy machine - https://www.instagram.com/p/BU0XZuhgL4R/?taken-by=moonpies
01:35 PM Loetmichel: Wolf__: i once made a whole z80 minicomputer as a ball of chips and wires...
01:35 PM gloops: i dont think i would want a 5 axis thing like that as the main router though
01:36 PM Loetmichel: z80b, z80 pio, z80 sio, rom, ram, some amount of discrete components and some 74xx glue logic... worked well
01:37 PM Loetmichel: and not a single pice of board. Looked like a ball of magnet wire with some chips and connectors sticking out...
01:37 PM Loetmichel: ( it was a bet with my apprentice master back in the 90ties ;)
01:39 PM SpeedEvil: It's very convenient to debug systems like that.
01:39 PM SpeedEvil: As they always work first time, or you just build a new one
01:42 PM SpeedEvil: One of the projects on my stack is a LASER solderer and micropositioner to do BGA level point-point
03:10 PM MarcelineVQ: it pays to clean up every once in awhile, found a box of chamfer bits. though, dunno what kind of steel they are
03:27 PM sync: Grind them in a spot that does not matter
03:58 PM Deejay: gn8
03:58 PM JT-Mobile: night
04:55 PM gloops: think i managed to stave off the flash with a dose of medicinal alcohol and a nap
05:04 PM JT-Mobile: lol
05:06 PM hazzy: gloops: I hear that is the best treatment :D
05:07 PM XXCoder: poor flash https://i.ytimg.com/vi/jEXlZVD0Mug/hqdefault.jpg
05:07 PM gloops: yeah, i cant be doing with flash just now, i wouldnt be able to do anything tommorrow
05:08 PM hazzy: Joking aside, I know two or three fellows that swear by cutting slices of cold raw potato and letting it rest on the eye
05:08 PM gloops: potato is supposed to be good yes
05:08 PM XXCoder: what is "the flash" anyway
05:08 PM XXCoder: besides the flash, the superhero
05:09 PM hazzy: XXCoder: arc flash
05:09 PM gloops: the welding arc burns a layer of skin off your eyeballs
05:09 PM XXCoder: ouch
05:10 PM gloops: i had it a couple of times in my teens, was scary, woke basically unable to open eyes
05:12 PM gloops: nurse put some drops in at the hospital, takes the pain off instantly, once you know nothing is permanent it isnt so scary, more of an inconvenience, you have to wear sunglasses for a couple of days
05:13 PM JT-Mobile: I got burned once helping a welder install the brackets in the uptake of the destroyer, all aluminum got burned from the reflection
05:14 PM gloops: its so easy to do, i mean you always get the odd little flash from welding, but you know when youve really got one
05:16 PM gloops: ive heard grinding dust in the eyes is far worse
05:16 PM XXCoder: at work I use googles with glasses
05:16 PM XXCoder: because fuck that getting blind thing
05:17 PM gloops: they have to scrape the metal out with a little loupe
05:18 PM gloops: XXCoder on a safety course i went on they put a screen up with a photo of this sexy looking woman - the instructor said, now imagine never seeing anything like that again
05:19 PM JT-Mobile: lol
05:19 PM JT-Mobile: I'd get slapped if I looked lol
05:19 PM JT-Mobile: not really
05:20 PM gloops: lol, it does make you think though
05:22 PM XXCoder: lol gloops
05:58 PM hazzy: I got a steel filing embedded in my eye a while back. It was not very painful, but looked bad. It slowly rusted away, there is a slight gray stain were it was but that is dissipating
05:59 PM hazzy: Now I am much more careful about wearing glasses, even when doing things like sweeping
06:00 PM MarcelineVQ: omy
06:00 PM XXCoder: eyetatto!
06:00 PM XXCoder: indeed
06:01 PM XXCoder: I have tattoo of one dot on one of my hands
06:01 PM XXCoder: its barely visiable, been fading for over 30 years
06:13 PM Tom_L: how would you recomend holding a ballscrew to turn the end down in the lathe?
06:14 PM Tom_L: brass shimstock wrapped around it? or something else...
06:15 PM hazzy: Tom_L: I would make a little collect out of aluminum or the like. Just a tube with a split it in and a bore of the proper dia
06:16 PM Tom_L: yeah i thought about that too
06:17 PM Tom_L: i'll have a piece to practice on since i'm cutting it off
06:20 PM hazzy: The problem is that the peaks of the ball screw threads are not always accurate (especially for rolled screws)
06:20 PM hazzy: so best practice is to use a collect with a matching thread so it would reference the base of the thread
06:20 PM MarcelineVQ: hazzy: like, turn down a piece, tap it then slot it into a collet?
06:20 PM hazzy: But that is not worth while if you just have a few screws and don't need great accuracy
06:21 PM hazzy: MarcelineVQ: Yes
06:21 PM Tom_L: that would be an expensive tap
06:21 PM hazzy: Since you have a lathe you would just single point it
06:22 PM MarcelineVQ: Tom_L: multistart screw?
06:22 PM Tom_L: not that i know of
06:22 PM gregcnc: Emergency collet, soft jaws, pot cuck
06:22 PM gregcnc: chuck
06:23 PM hazzy: You could also use some music wire placed in the races of the screw and achieve the same effect
06:23 PM Tom_L: not sure i have gears to cut a 5mm pitch
06:23 PM Tom_L: that's an idea
06:23 PM Tom_L: or brass
06:24 PM hazzy: sure, the force will be distributed, so it does not have to be hard wire
06:25 PM Tom_L: my bud has a large lathe so i plan to take it out there to do it
06:26 PM gregcnc: If not annealed make sure you have inserts to cut through the case hard
06:26 PM Tom_L: yeah he has all kinds of inserts
06:30 PM Tom_L: morning andypugh
06:30 PM andypugh: Morning
06:30 PM gregcnc: I used to use a hard grade in sandvik for low speed but CBN is awesome
06:36 PM Tom_L: andypugh, did you notice this? https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/pull/354
06:37 PM andypugh: Yes, I did.
06:37 PM Tom_L: it could be added to G33 too i think no?
06:37 PM andypugh: I was talking to Rene about it last night over on the STMBL IRC
06:38 PM Tom_L: oh
06:38 PM andypugh: It wouldn’t have any effect on G33. G33 doesn’t have a spindle-synched retract.
06:38 PM Tom_L: ok
06:40 PM Tom_L: looks like a good time saver
06:42 PM andypugh: Rene as discussing how many holes he would need to drill to get back the time he spent wokring out how to make the changes.
06:42 PM MarcelineVQ: hehe, well some estrimates about the time other people use making holes could make a good balm
06:43 PM XXCoder: “I don’t believe in science,” Hughes previously told the Associated Press. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.”
06:43 PM XXCoder: LOL
06:43 PM XXCoder: what a moron
06:43 PM XXCoder: formulas were discovered by science.
06:43 PM andypugh: Which Hughes was that?
06:44 PM XXCoder: guy currently building a steam rocket to prove earth is flat
06:44 PM Tom_L: it's not?
06:45 PM XXCoder: we know that
06:45 PM XXCoder: im sure he knows also
06:45 PM andypugh: To an extent what he says is true. He is describing Engineering, the application of mathematics to achive desired results.
06:45 PM andypugh: Science is when you don’t know what the result should be.
06:45 PM XXCoder: he suddenly went flat earth when he couldnt find funding for his rocket
06:45 PM MarcelineVQ: XXCoder: is it something like this? "basically what I think is that if I can get this thing to go fast enough, if the earth was really round it would lift off, you know like a fast car going over a small hill? well like that, it's not going to lift off, my steam engine, so the earth will be flat, you just wait"
06:46 PM XXCoder: https://gizmodo.com/flat-earth-researcher-told-he-cant-blast-himself-into-t-1820735736?
06:46 PM MarcelineVQ: oh you said steam rocket, that actually sounds really interesting
06:46 PM MarcelineVQ: very steampunk
06:47 PM XXCoder: "While crowdfunding only raised him $310 of his $150,000 goal then, the Flat Earth connection later helped him raise $8,000 of the eventual $20,000 it cost to build the rocket."
06:49 PM andypugh: Anyone else reminded (in many ways) of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skycycle_X-2
06:49 PM XXCoder: lol now that is cool
06:49 PM XXCoder: none of that antiscience shit
07:23 PM hazzy: my version of Rene's G33.1, with the I parameter set to 3: https://youtu.be/HfcNDs22Wg8
07:23 PM hazzy: :D
07:24 PM XXCoder: antifocus is the devil
07:24 PM XXCoder: *autofocus
07:29 PM hazzy: XXCoder: antifocus is the more accurate name!
07:29 PM XXCoder: lol
09:44 PM JT-Mobile: goodnight
09:44 PM dioz: no
10:09 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUcUy7SqdS0 interesting video
