12:16 AM CaptHindsight: https://imagebin.ca/v/3i1iVPLD79k1 ^^ actually longer
12:29 AM monkeyisl: CaptHindsight : lol
12:30 AM monkeyisl: https://imgur.com/a/ng9Lm what's this?
12:40 AM MarcelineVQ: hmm air or coolant nozzle probably
12:41 AM MarcelineVQ: coolant probably given the spray on the side of the machine
12:41 AM monkeyisl: yes i mean, the part# lol
12:43 AM gloops: well, considering a few factors - timing pulleys are crap, the ones ive got you can shift the belt half a mm
12:44 AM gloops: so i do not want to introduce belts to the drive
12:45 AM gloops: also in their wisdom the chinese sent 1350mm screws and 1350mm linear rails - this means about 9 inch of screw will be unused
12:46 AM gloops: i could fit more end bearings to the screws in the dead space - that should increase critical speed a lot
01:03 AM monkeyisl: gloops : thanks for tips.
01:04 AM monkeyisl: gloops : i have 0 belts but 4axis.
01:05 AM gloops: just thinking aloud lol
01:05 AM monkeyisl: 4th axis i mean.
01:05 AM gloops: monkeyisl gearbox on the rotary axis?
01:05 AM monkeyisl: englsh problem which you are pointing?
01:06 AM gloops: is the 4 axis a rotary axis?
01:06 AM gloops: like circular
01:06 AM monkeyisl: yesyes
01:06 AM gloops: how is it turned - straight from the motor?
01:07 AM monkeyisl: i don't know yet. i'll se..
01:09 AM gloops: some use belts, tbh i think the backlash would be reduced a lot if the belt were tensioned tight, but by hand pressure they slip back and forth
01:09 AM gloops: a lot
01:09 AM monkeyisl: ahh right pretty sure. i'll see..
01:09 AM monkeyisl: i'll take pic when i'm ready
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: morning from rainy germany
01:22 AM MrHindsight: what type and belt size?
01:23 AM IchGucksLive: best to go T5
01:39 AM chopper791: IchGucksLive: Morning, also everytime I see you get on you say from rainy germany. Does it ever get sunny for you?
01:39 AM IchGucksLive: thursday
01:39 AM chopper791: So just Thursday?
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: for this week yes
01:40 AM chopper791: haha.... I need more sun then that. Sorry to hear this
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: in summertimes we see no rain for maybe 6-8weeks
01:41 AM chopper791: Thats good stretch of no rain, but things dry up quickly then also
01:41 AM IchGucksLive: thats why Farming is a gamble
01:42 AM archivist: gloops sounds like the belt form on belt and pulley dont match
01:42 AM chopper791: I could imagine it would be.
01:42 AM IchGucksLive: this year we made 10.000tonns of corn
01:42 AM IchGucksLive: while sometimes we make only 6.000
01:43 AM chopper791: Well I am off to bed, have to be up in 3hrs to go to work. Have a good one!
01:43 AM IchGucksLive: Bye
01:46 AM gloops: archivist you may be right
01:47 AM gloops: the pulleys are good quality, they came second hand with the belts
01:47 AM archivist: or well worn
01:47 AM gloops: to buy the 0 backlash pulleys and belts would cost more than upgrading the ballscrews
01:48 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: Standard puleys got no backlash on 120deg tight
01:48 AM gloops: http://www.mycncuk.com/threads/6118-Best-timing-belt-and-pulleys-type-for-minimum-backlash
01:49 AM gloops: this guy says exactly the same as me 0,5mm
01:49 AM gloops: Ichs you must using standard pulleys a lot, are they seriously ok when tensioned?
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: i got all mashines running on timingbelt
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: and i got no backlash at all from them
01:50 AM gloops: i can pull on this really tight and slip the belt
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: you even musent do that
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: up to 200mm span
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: Axis to Axis
01:52 AM gloops: well, i can give them a go for nothing, will buy new belts
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: the belt structure i the gole
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: you night within Nylon
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: non rubber
01:54 AM Loetmichel: meh. that wasnt the britest idea to park the BMW convertible for 2 weeks with the notebook on the passenger floor plugged into the lighter socket... just tried to start it: not even a click... seeems the old BMWs have the battery wired directly to the lighter socket insteasd of ignition... $me gets the charger from the workshop and connects it...
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: Industryal ones
01:54 AM Loetmichel: -gh
01:54 AM Loetmichel: +gh
01:55 AM gloops: bump it
01:55 AM Loetmichel: bump?
01:56 AM gloops: bump start, are you on a hill?
01:56 AM Loetmichel: on the parking lot of the company
01:57 AM gloops: you need a push, ignition on, second gear clutch down, build up speed release clutch
01:57 AM Loetmichel: i dont need to start it, the convertible is set there for the winter... i just periodically try to start it to let it stay "healthy"
01:57 AM gloops: oh i see
02:00 AM monkeyisl: what do you guys use for coolant nozzle with control ?.. i want something like car injector. that i pwm amount..
02:02 AM archivist: I tend to use an oil can
02:03 AM monkeyisl: how could u adjust amount?
02:03 AM monkeyisl: u mean coolant right?
02:03 AM archivist: I am watching and listening then drip some on is needed
02:03 AM monkeyisl: https://www.cnccookbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/DatronCoolant.jpg
02:04 AM archivist: I am using it not to cool but lubricate the cut
02:04 AM archivist: but/not
02:04 AM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: there are electronic vents you van go by 12-24V
02:04 AM archivist: was right ignore the correction
02:05 AM monkeyisl: https://jp.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/223007713645/?searchFlow=results2products&KWSearch=%E3%82%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A9%E3%83%B3%E3%83%88%E3%83%8E%E3%82%BA%E3%83%AB
02:05 AM monkeyisl: i found some from japland.
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: with a small atmel you can modify them as you like
02:05 AM monkeyisl: https://imgur.com/a/ng9Lm anyone knows it?
02:06 AM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : i don't use avr.
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: im off need to do somthing in this Rain
02:06 AM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : ST only
02:08 AM archivist: you dont need any micro get linuxcnc to switch on/off
02:09 AM monkeyisl: arvhivist seems.
02:10 AM monkeyisl: archivist : could i do hw pwm?
02:10 AM monkeyisl: of cousre yes K
02:10 AM archivist: and another thing, with carbide cutters, flood cool/lubricate or none because of cracking of the carbide if it heats cools by intermittent cooling
02:12 AM monkeyisl: http://wikicars.org/images/en/thumb/8/8e/Fuelinjector.png/351px-Fuelinjector.png
02:12 AM monkeyisl: i wanna use something like this
02:16 AM archivist: you need very high pressure for those
02:16 AM monkeyisl: car pressure pump is like 45usd .
02:17 AM monkeyisl: and injector is like 10 bux
02:17 AM monkeyisl: and 12 pwm is ready so
02:17 AM archivist: but it is a mist not a proper flood for some cutting
02:18 AM monkeyisl: i'll just use methyl alcohol
02:20 AM archivist: fire hazard
02:21 AM archivist: what are you cutting
02:21 AM monkeyisl: alu
02:22 AM archivist: I use a light oil for that
02:22 AM archivist: need to stop the metal sticking to the cutter
02:24 AM monkeyisl: light oil for example?
02:25 AM Deejay: moin
02:26 AM gloops: soluable oil, you need a mate who works in a machine shop
02:26 AM monkeyisl: lol
02:26 AM gloops: its not expensive anyway if you have a tank
02:27 AM monkeyisl: i heard that will kill me slowly, and methyl alcohol is expesnive but not so harmful to human. no?
02:28 AM gloops: not used it, would think there is a fire risk
02:28 AM gloops: not used it as coolant anyway, its used in lamps
02:28 AM gloops: and mixing wood polish
02:29 AM monkeyisl: btw hm... looks 7i76 dons't look have fet drain in,source out pin , i just have gate pin drivers.
02:29 AM archivist: you can use neat oil
02:29 AM gloops: some types of cutting need lubrication, some only need cooling, not sure what lubrication properties meths has
02:30 AM gloops: i use car oil in a can
02:30 AM monkeyisl: gloops : like 10w20?
02:30 AM monkeyisl: enigne or mission?
02:30 AM gloops: if i was maching all day id get a proper system with a tank
02:30 AM gloops: engine oil
02:30 AM monkeyisl: haha nice
02:30 AM archivist: I use car oil too :)
02:30 AM gloops: ive used old sump oil but the machine is now black, and so was i
02:31 AM archivist: axle/gear for heavy stuff
02:31 AM gloops: you get smoke with oil - meths would be a bit dodgy at a guess
02:32 AM archivist: I did use an oiler drip feeding the cut sometimes
02:32 AM gloops: tend to keep a clean machine with soluable oil, it cleans
02:33 AM gloops: thick oil swarf sticks to it
02:33 AM gloops: and smears
02:35 AM gloops: another thought - meths is going to dissolve the oil on your bearings
02:36 AM monkeyisl: http://www.climatetechwiki.org/technology/ice_improvements injector is just in a same room with sparkplug.
02:36 AM archivist: all depends on the job
02:37 AM monkeyisl: so there is no way to fire it from the end.
02:37 AM monkeyisl: it's like same with touch.
02:37 AM monkeyisl: not enough air to make fire.
02:37 AM monkeyisl: torch? .. gas torch ..english problem.
02:38 AM gloops: you thinking of using a petrol or diesel injector?
02:38 AM monkeyisl: yes
02:38 AM gloops: you would need the high pressure pump
02:38 AM monkeyisl: ye so i have
02:38 AM monkeyisl: @ 45 usd
02:38 AM monkeyisl: any local junkplace.
02:39 AM monkeyisl: fuel pressure pump
02:39 AM gloops: hmm dunno, about quarter a gallon an hour
02:40 AM gloops: misting meths doesnt sound like a good idea though lol
02:41 AM archivist: death trap
02:42 AM monkeyisl: https://youtu.be/8rk0tKtiVic?t=281
02:42 AM gloops: https://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrIRlzM5hNakEkAy3x3Bwx.?p=injector+spray+pattern&fr=yhs-ddc-linuxmint&fr2=piv-web&hspart=ddc&hsimp=yhs-linuxmint&type=__alt__ddc_linuxmint_com#id=10&vid=608ec304c7a73d62e36a184c606bfd14&action=view
02:43 AM gloops: its a good ideal, maybe
02:43 AM monkeyisl: i'will try
02:43 AM gloops: how you gonna keep the injector open?
02:44 AM gloops: like control it
02:44 AM monkeyisl: pwm
02:44 AM monkeyisl: control duty
02:44 AM monkeyisl: i made need a fet pcb breakout.
02:44 AM monkeyisl: *may
02:44 AM monkeyisl: i don' tknow how much current it will suck.
02:44 AM gloops: 12v dc
02:44 AM monkeyisl: yet.
02:44 AM monkeyisl: yea
02:44 AM monkeyisl: but i will shink current so
02:44 AM monkeyisl: *it
02:45 AM monkeyisl: no gpio can handle that enough.
02:45 AM monkeyisl: i don't have 7i76 schematic so
02:45 AM archivist: you will need a driver
02:45 AM monkeyisl: the have push=pull.
02:45 AM monkeyisl: right
03:00 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mist-Coolant-Lubrication-Spray-System-MVM-for-CNC-machine-router/222519301434?
03:00 AM monkeyisl: cool
03:01 AM gloops: manual
03:01 AM monkeyisl: ahh k
03:02 AM archivist: just add some on off solenoids
03:02 AM monkeyisl: that works too.
03:03 AM monkeyisl: but i still want pressure. and precision control.
03:03 AM archivist: precision! just squirt it in the direction
03:04 AM gloops: you cant beat flooding
03:04 AM monkeyisl: right but, flooding is what i don't wanna do, i don't wanna waste ... heh
03:04 AM monkeyisl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n7PICO3vyo
03:04 AM monkeyisl: what is that?
03:05 AM monkeyisl: the probe
03:05 AM gloops: you dont waste any it flows back to the tank
03:05 AM monkeyisl: that's a lot of flow...
03:05 AM monkeyisl: wow
03:05 AM monkeyisl: is that mist????????
03:06 AM monkeyisl: it's just spreading out loo
03:06 AM gloops: probe - maybe mapping it
03:07 AM gloops: oh no i see now
03:07 AM gloops: yeah thats what you want - flooding
03:07 AM monkeyisl: mist?
03:07 AM gloops: when you get into high speed cutting the coolant is an important factor, you need x amount of coolant to cut at x speed
03:08 AM gloops: thats not mist
03:08 AM archivist: with flood you build a case and collect it all and re use
03:08 AM archivist: filter too
03:08 AM monkeyisl: looks so..
03:09 AM gloops: on the lathe or mill tray theres a plughole - coolant flows back to the tank and gets pumped back round
03:09 AM Tade: Hello there. I am one step be4 getting a parallel breakout board for my cnc and i would like to know if any parallel board will work with linuxcnc. And if you have to suggest one yourself that it has a good support from Linux community. At around 100$
03:10 AM archivist: this is flood with a multi compartment tank to filter http://www.archivist.info/cnc/works/P1010235.JPG
03:10 AM archivist: Tade, break out boards are a lot cheaper than that
03:11 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1pcs-5-Axis-CNC-Breakout-Board-For-Stepper-Driver-Controller-mach3/263310036070?
03:11 AM archivist: tade look on ebay for http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/mirror/cnc/bob/$_57.JPG
03:11 AM Tade: Yea i have the stepper motors drivers i have the stepper motor and i only need the breakout board
03:12 AM archivist: I look for a local shipper of the board so I get it quicker
03:13 AM Tade: So you dont have any suggestions? Coz i allready bought one and i just throw my money away and i dont want to do it again
03:13 AM archivist: I have a few of those, one is in my 5 axis mill and another in a hobbing machine
03:14 AM Tade: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EU-4-Axis-200Khz-NVUM-USB-MACH3-Motion-Control-Card-CNC-Interface-Breakout-Board/112642297155?epid=1279427732&hash=item1a3a010d43:g:n0AAAOSwGUBaC-ks
03:14 AM Tade: i bought this one
03:14 AM Tade: but it only has problems
03:14 AM Tade: and it doesnt work with linux cnc
03:14 AM archivist: that wont work with linuxcnc
03:14 AM Tade: Yea it doesnt work with nothing!
03:16 AM archivist: not even mach?
03:16 AM archivist: that should know about it
03:16 AM Tade: yeap . the board is only problems..
03:16 AM Tade: loosing stepps
03:16 AM Tade: resets without a reason
03:16 AM Tade: and a lot more.
03:16 AM archivist: electrical noise
03:18 AM monkeyisl: i can say no usb isolation from a quick view , , pc usb without isolation with inducutive motors??? what do you expect? heh
03:19 AM Tade: anyway dont worry about this coz my main problem is that it doesnt work with LCNC
03:20 AM Tade: https://cnc4pc.com/motion-control/breakout-boards.html
03:20 AM archivist: that card we pointed at does
03:20 AM Tade: have you tryed any of these?
03:21 AM archivist: no, but have met others where there is opto on the output of the card and in the driver, they miss steps
03:21 AM monkeyisl: tade : i bought 7i76
03:21 AM monkeyisl: with pcie anyio
03:22 AM Tade: ow i see. so what should i get for my hobby cnc ? the cheap ebay one or a better one?
03:22 AM archivist: tade what country?
03:22 AM archivist: cheap ebay is actually better :)
03:22 AM Tade: Greece bro
03:23 AM archivist: you should be able to find an EU supplier with them in stock
03:24 AM Tade: ok i see
03:24 AM monkeyisl: £3.99 hahah so cheap
03:24 AM Tade: so i will try a cheap one first
03:24 AM monkeyisl: i' mjust saying,
03:25 AM monkeyisl: surprised cuz it's too cheap.
03:25 AM monkeyisl: china(TM)
03:25 AM gloops: bob is only screw terminals for the parport, + on these 0-10v and relay
03:26 AM gloops: you probably can get one for $100 - wont do anything more
03:26 AM archivist: bob also has open collector for the driver opto inputs
03:26 AM Tade: one last question plz
03:27 AM archivist: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Axis-CNC-Breakout-Board-Interface-Adapter-For-Stepper-Motor-Driver-USB-Cable/162191550889
03:27 AM Tade: in these breakout boards i will be able to connect my vfd and spindle too?
03:27 AM archivist: when searching look for nearest
03:27 AM gloops: make sure it has 0-10v and relay Tade, the cheapo one has them
03:27 AM archivist: that board has a pwm drive for the vfd
03:28 AM archivist: marked on the drawing http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/mirror/cnc/bob/$_57.JPG
03:28 AM gloops: relay for on/off pwm for spindle speed
03:29 AM archivist: I ran out of outputs for direction on my 5 axis :(
03:29 AM gloops: monkey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw2B2Pl1B30
03:29 AM archivist: just run two cards then
03:31 AM Tade: ok . tnx for all the help guys
03:31 AM Tade: i will try to find the best one for me from what you told me
03:31 AM gloops: go to 12mins in
03:31 AM gloops: near the end
03:32 AM monkeyisl: k watching
03:32 AM monkeyisl: nice shower
03:33 AM monkeyisl: but i don't wanna actually use the .... i hread it smellshorrible.. .. mist is fine though.
03:34 AM archivist: mist will atomise and smell more
03:34 AM monkeyisl: but it's gone after a few hours
03:36 AM monkeyisl: https://youtu.be/yL4Z232P-ew?t=268 this machine is crazy....lo
03:55 AM monkeyisl: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Renishaw-TP7M-CMM-Prob-Head-With-probe-/202020181289 what!
04:07 AM archivist: with care and patience you can get cheaper renishaw
04:13 AM sync: monkeyisl: what what?
04:18 AM monkeyisl: sync : that looks something cool ... looks will resolve all origin problem that i'm thinking.
04:18 AM monkeyisl: excpet the price.
04:18 AM sync: the price is cheap
04:19 AM monkeyisl: ahh. ok
04:19 AM monkeyisl: that's how it works?
04:21 AM sync: they are about 5-10x more if you buy them from renishaw
04:21 AM sync: but it is a cmm probe, you would not want to use it in a mill
04:22 AM archivist: in a mill something like a ts27 http://www.renishaw.com/en/ts27r-contact-tool-setting-probe--6090
04:26 AM monkeyisl: oh...
04:26 AM sync: I like the omp40 for part probing
04:27 AM sync: I have a blum tool laser and a heidenhain touchprobe
04:27 AM sync: I think I prefer the laser
05:03 AM jthornton: morning
05:03 AM XXCoder: hey jt
05:22 AM jthornton: what's up this morning
05:22 AM XXCoder: got certified mail for some reason. didnt expect anything
05:23 AM XXCoder: gonna go po and get it bah
05:23 AM jthornton: gotta stay up late to fetch it?
05:25 AM XXCoder: lol no go out earlier
05:29 AM jthornton: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/feeder-build.1208719/
06:18 AM Loetmichel: *meh* milling PMMA today... i'm already looking like a snowman :-(
06:18 AM XXCoder: yay pmmaman!
06:31 AM jelly-home is now known as jelly
07:00 AM monkeyisl: it there any edge finding solution for ER20 ?
07:00 AM XXCoder: edge funder
07:00 AM XXCoder: *finder
07:01 AM XXCoder: theres few others but that one is common
07:01 AM SpeedEvil: Surely there are edge finders in 0-20mm or whatever diameter
07:01 AM monkeyisl: for er20..
07:01 AM SpeedEvil: rather than tapers
07:01 AM XXCoder: er20 or 48 it dont matter, you use correct size collet
07:01 AM SpeedEvil: (though ER20 doesn't go up to that, does it)
07:01 AM SpeedEvil: I always have to look them up
07:01 AM monkeyisl: xxcoder what's keyword?
07:01 AM XXCoder: lets see edge finder is .2" correct?
07:02 AM SpeedEvil: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Starrett-827MA-Finders-Diameter-Contact/dp/B000VDZG46
07:02 AM SpeedEvil: Not even very expensive
07:02 AM archivist: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Led-Beep-Precision-Probe-Electronic-Edge-Finder-Lathe-CNC-Milling-Tools/282503767344
07:02 AM XXCoder: "ER20 series collets have a capacity of .015-.512 inches."
07:02 AM XXCoder: so its fine
07:02 AM SpeedEvil: Oh - nvm, I'm an idiot, you probably mean non-manual edge finder.
07:03 AM monkeyisl: automatic right
07:03 AM XXCoder: that cheap
07:03 AM XXCoder: I wonder what its repeatability is
07:03 AM monkeyisl: Shank Diameter: about 20mm so i donn't think it will fit
07:03 AM monkeyisl: on er20
07:05 AM XXCoder: well theres other way to do it
07:05 AM XXCoder: use solid rod and paper
07:05 AM XXCoder: close in till cant move paper
07:06 AM XXCoder: then rise above then move in radius of rod
07:06 AM archivist: you can also use contact type probes
07:07 AM monkeyisl: i could just new eletric +,- to do it though.. i mean automatic solution. eys that i mean archivisit
07:07 AM monkeyisl: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/29187-work-with-probe
07:07 AM monkeyisl: very first pic, the sqaure
07:08 AM monkeyisl: 1, 2, 3, .. i can find 0, 1, 3
07:08 AM monkeyisl: but how could i find 2?
07:08 AM monkeyisl: drag it?
07:08 AM monkeyisl: lol
07:11 AM SpeedEvil: I just went back to the above amazon page.
07:11 AM SpeedEvil: And I noticed it's offering me a saving if I subscribe to getting edge finders delivered monthly.
07:11 AM SpeedEvil: :)
07:11 AM XXCoder: ohhhh
07:11 AM XXCoder: perfect for people who keep breaking em
07:14 AM * archivist has to go drivin miss daisy
07:15 AM monkeyisl: no chance for me?
07:16 AM Jymmm: archivist: ...crazy
07:16 AM XXCoder: dunno well theres other ways anyway
07:16 AM XXCoder: even automated ways
07:20 AM monkeyisl: so i'll do
07:20 AM monkeyisl: amke 2 holes width 1 edge.
07:20 AM monkeyisl: by using contact type proble.
07:21 AM monkeyisl: problem solved.
07:21 AM monkeyisl: or 2 edge with 1 hole.
07:22 AM monkeyisl: my next question is how do i find hole center by using contact probe? of cousre no gcode for that?
07:27 AM monkeyisl: i hate python.. https://github.com/verser-git/probe_screen/blob/master/python/probe_screen.py
07:31 AM * JT-Shop loves python
07:31 AM monkeyisl: no it's unreadable to me
07:34 AM chopper791: Morning
07:50 AM chopper791: Internet is running at a blazing speed of 120kbps... been uploading a video since 11:30pm last night and it is only 53% done. Seriously love the country, but I exchange internet speeds.
07:52 AM monkeyisl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMlmjsdTOy4 <___ tRUE?
07:53 AM monkeyisl: chopper791 : you're in best korea?lol
07:53 AM chopper791: haha... no no
07:58 AM archivist: monkeyisl, http://timeguy.com/cradek/01262579508
08:00 AM chopper791: Oh well. Time to go to work and see what kind of parts I get to machine today. Going to retry uploading video again later.
08:00 AM monkeyisl: archivist : nice
08:02 AM archivist: always more than one way of doing something
08:03 AM monkeyisl: got i i'll reference.
08:09 AM monkeyisl: you guys using camera with lcnc? i don't think i need it actually but looks interesting
08:11 AM archivist: I have tried but for me I needed a better camera so stopped at that point
08:12 AM archivist: I saved a picture from that time http://www.archivist.info/cnc/target.php
08:12 AM archivist: 9 years ago :)
08:12 AM monkeyisl: ... lo
08:14 AM cradek: archivist: did you always cut your own pinions or did you have a source for blanks? I'm doing a repair that needs two cut, and I have one appropriate blank (out of a grab-bag assortment I had from somewhere)
08:14 AM cradek: archivist: it's a largeish 6 leaf and I have lots of the right diameter in 7, or too small in 6, bleh
08:15 AM archivist: we were cutting our own
08:17 AM archivist: we had sets of cutters for each module
08:17 AM cradek: that would be nice
08:18 AM archivist: other method, shift the wheel to use unworn section of pinion
08:18 AM archivist: a bit naughty though
08:18 AM cradek: pivot's gone, someone badly repivoted it and that unsurprisingly failed
08:19 AM cradek: I tried to redo the repivot and failed, but that's crap work anyway
08:20 AM archivist: we did play a bit fast and loose with "correct" module you can get away with a close size or even file what you have to size
08:21 AM archivist: turn a 7 down to 6.8 and file to form, polish
08:21 AM cradek: I think I have the right blank, feels right in the depthing tool, but I only have one of them
08:21 AM cradek: I've practiced twice with a 7 leaf of about the same diameter (correct is 6)
08:22 AM archivist: even file and harden cutters to make a special
08:23 AM archivist: used the old gear to make a cutter
08:25 AM cradek: brb
09:02 AM Sabotend_ is now known as Sabotender
10:05 AM Deejay: re
10:30 AM MrHindsight: http://www.pocketnc.com/pocket-nc-v2/pocket-nc-v2 $4900
10:31 AM archivist: hasn't that died yet!
10:31 AM gloops: just cut 4 legs for table, then realised if id made then 4 inch bigger quite a few things could have been stored under the machine, doh
10:32 AM archivist: add casters
10:33 AM gloops: gonna bolt it down anyway but ill use the cuts for bracing, cant waste that much space
10:34 AM archivist: MrHindsight, I wonder how accurate the specs are
11:03 AM Loetmichel: *Grmpf*. The crux of having two cars: having to buy fuel for both.. did 64.50 liters diesel for 74 eur this morning in the Omega... and just now took the BMW home to charge the battery, had to fill'er up, too... 62 liters premium gasoline for 82 eur... :-(
11:04 AM gregcnc: your BMW is electric and gas?
11:07 AM Loetmichel: electric?
11:07 AM Loetmichel: no. just gasoline
11:07 AM gregcnc: you charge it and put gas in it
11:07 AM Loetmichel: charge the starter battery
11:07 AM Loetmichel: driving it to charge
11:08 AM Loetmichel: had forgotten that i had the notebook PSU plugged into the lighter socket. The starter battery didnt felt well after 2 weeks standing around with that plugged in :-(
11:15 AM * SpeedEvil ponders how many times a tesla can charge a notebook.
11:16 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: depends on which battery option you had choosen ;)
11:16 AM djdelorie: and which notebook option you had chosen
11:17 AM Loetmichel: yes. My dell Precision M6500 has a 240W PSU.. and not for show ;)
11:23 AM djdelorie: but if it helps with scale, my laptop has an 87 WH battery, and my motorcycle has an 8700 WH battery, so "100 times" for me at least :-)
11:26 AM Jymmm: djdelorie: So, you're typing on your laptop while riding a mc ?
11:26 AM djdelorie: no, just doing math
11:29 AM SpeedEvil: your electric motorcycle?
11:30 AM djdelorie: yup
11:30 AM SpeedEvil: Because if it's not, it doesn't.
11:30 AM SpeedEvil: ah
11:30 AM djdelorie: "work in progress" http://www.delorie.com/photos/motorcycle/img_3519.html
11:31 AM SpeedEvil: I think it needs more duct tape
11:31 AM gloops: lol
11:31 AM gloops: no no, i can see whats hes doing, thats only to visualise it
11:31 AM djdelorie: I was in a rush to test out all the components before the warantees expired
11:32 AM SpeedEvil: :)
11:32 AM SpeedEvil: I assume you haven't had it up to speed on the highway :)
11:32 AM djdelorie: no, but I've ridden it in the driveway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFKNQ-a9QQU
11:32 AM SpeedEvil: Packing it all is going to be fun
11:33 AM SpeedEvil: Lots of fibreglass?
11:33 AM djdelorie: yeah, that's the challenging part
11:33 AM djdelorie: actually, lots of 3d-printed brackets, so far
11:33 AM djdelorie: I have a couple options for the battery cage
11:33 AM djdelorie: and I'll have to custom-make fiberglass fairings at some point
11:34 AM gloops: plug making is tedious
11:35 AM djdelorie: er, also, the specific photo I posted is just me piling up all the parts so I could weigh them
11:35 AM djdelorie: 392 lbs in that photo
11:37 AM Loetmichel: niiiiiceee... whish that would be possible here in germany without spending a fortune on EMV tests and other state-inuced checks
11:37 AM gloops: got to make one of these https://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=AwrIRhXwYRRa7l0AdZR3Bwx.;_ylu=X3oDMTBybDA1bGNhBGNvbG8DaXIyBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=Cnc+Wood+Lathe&fr=yhs-ddc-linuxmint&hspart=ddc&hsimp=yhs-linuxmint#id=26&vid=485cbe33d2acd7db10baa9673a45942d&action=view
11:37 AM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel: It is at least possible to reasonably get it done in the UK, which should then be homologatable I'd ahve thought
11:38 AM JT-Shop: djdelorie: what kind of battery is it?
11:38 AM SpeedEvil: the checks are very, very reasonable. Perhaps even too lax.
11:38 AM djdelorie: LiFe
11:38 AM SpeedEvil: (last checked ~3 years ago though)
11:39 AM djdelorie: http://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/cam72fi.html
11:39 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: problem is that i wanted to do that to my Omega... asked the german "TUEV"... result: you have to have a EMV test for EVERY part you build in there AND for the whole car.
11:39 AM gloops: insurance not cheap for a Q reg though
11:39 AM gloops: if you can get it
11:39 AM Loetmichel: there are only 2 EMV chamers in germany that can do checks on cars... you can imagine what i would cost?
11:39 AM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel: My understanding was it was also legal to register the car in theUK
11:39 AM JT-Shop: cool
11:39 AM SpeedEvil: (for the next few months anyway)
11:39 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: only if you live there and only for a year IIRC
11:40 AM SpeedEvil: Don't recall that, but have not been looking
11:41 AM Loetmichel: as far as i know you have to have an adress wherevery you want to register a car in all of europe
11:41 AM Loetmichel: y
11:42 AM SpeedEvil: From memory, it's not registration though, it's testing to comply with the fact that it is a registerable vehicle at this step.
11:42 AM SpeedEvil: And once you have that, you can register anywhere. But I may be wholly wrong.
11:42 AM archivist: have to build the frame out of wood too for the full redneck experience
11:43 AM SpeedEvil: Amusingly, in the UK, it is quite legal to ride on the roads (that is, it is not a road traffic offence) something only a madman would try to drive on the roads.
11:43 AM Loetmichel: archivist: i doubt a redneck has enough carpenter knowledge to make a wooden car/motorcycle frame work.
11:43 AM SpeedEvil: Because it's not a motor vehicle by the definitions of the relevant act.
11:44 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: if its electric driven?`
11:44 AM SpeedEvil: Loetmichel: anything.
11:44 AM gloops: not sure that it totally accurate SpeedEvil
11:44 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: you mean: "anything not driven by an ICE"?
11:44 AM SpeedEvil: This doesn't apply if it would even be vaguely sensible to drive it in traffic
11:46 AM * SpeedEvil ponders if he can find the case.
11:46 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:46 AM gloops: Other kinds of electric bike
11:46 AM gloops: Any electric bike that doesn’t meet the EAPC rules is classed as a motorcycle or moped and needs to be registered and taxed. You’ll need a driving licence to ride one and you must wear a crash helmet.
11:46 AM Loetmichel: SpeedEvil: german law is a bit smarter there... it says "any *powered* vehicle with a Vmax higer than 6km/h has to have TUEV and a registration"
11:47 AM gloops: he bike must also be type approved if either:
11:47 AM gloops: it doesn’t meet the EAPC rules
11:47 AM gloops: it can be propelled without pedalling (a ‘twist and go’ EAPC)
11:47 AM gloops: This should have been done by the manufacturer or importer before you bought it. If it’s been type approved, it will have a plate showing its type approval number.
11:47 AM Loetmichel: with exeptions for the 50cc 45kmh bikes and cars where the "TUEV" part is done only once by the manufacturer.
11:47 AM gloops: 1. Overview
11:47 AM gloops: The manufacturer or importer will usually take care of vehicle approval. You must apply for vehicle approval if you’ve:
11:47 AM gloops: built a vehicle
11:47 AM gloops: rebuilt a vehicle
11:47 AM gloops: radically altered a vehicle
11:47 AM gloops: reconstructed a classic vehicle
11:47 AM gloops: imported a vehicle
11:47 AM gloops: youll need to get it passed, and get a Q reg plate
11:50 AM SpeedEvil: https://court-appeal.vlex.co.uk/vid/-52549145
11:50 AM SpeedEvil: The test, as to whether a vehicle is intended, or adapted for use on the road is an objective one; - would a reasonable person looking at the vehicle say that one of its uses would be use on the roads, and, in deciding that question, the reasonable person had to consider whether some general use on the roads might be contemplated, and not merely isolated use, or use by a man losing his senses;
11:52 AM SpeedEvil: gloops: yes, the type-approval mechanism in the UK is so lax to make that the easier route perhaps.
11:53 AM SpeedEvil: Or at least it was ~4y ago, I've not looked into it since then
11:53 AM gloops: well using an existing chassis that had been approved is better - you know all the lights and indicators are the right height and in the right places and so on, assuming the batteries are a similar weight to the engine the brakes and weight distribution are ok
11:55 AM gloops: you dont see many 'custom' cars now, whether thats just because it went out of fashion i dont know
11:55 AM Loetmichel: gloops: funny thing on that: there were some cars in germany that you wouldnt get appoved as a private person
11:56 AM gloops: can believe it Loet
11:56 AM gloops: people used to chop the roofs down so they were 4 inch high windows stuff like that, i think most of that has been done away with
11:56 AM Loetmichel: the manufacturers stroke some "deals" with the tuev regarding lights and indicator positons that would prevent the same car from being reapproved after major overhauls
11:57 AM Loetmichel: nearly fell into that trap a while ago
11:57 AM gloops: ive heard of them getting pulled with the lights - common one, easy enough fix though
11:58 AM gloops: unless you hand layed a fibreglass body with the light sockets heh
11:58 AM Loetmichel: problem is that the SERIES light positions were "unapprovable"
11:58 AM gloops: i seem to remember that with some imports
11:59 AM Loetmichel: even with unchanged light positions you couldnt get it reapproved.
11:59 AM gloops: here, they were allowed but wouldnt pass the test normally
12:04 PM MarcelineVQ: have to do lights yourself is the worst, putting the acutally required lights on my little trailer is something like 15 lamps. plus a halfdozen reflectors. same trailer style and twice as big from a manufacturer has half as many, and no reflectors
12:29 PM IchGucksLive: guten Abend Karl_

12:49 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: are there cheep vaccum tables
12:49 PM gloops: Ichs dont think so
12:50 PM gloops: vacuum pump not cheap
12:50 PM IchGucksLive: only homemade ones
12:50 PM gloops: not sure, how much vacuum do you need?
12:51 PM archivist: pumps can be found on fleabay cheap
12:51 PM IchGucksLive: archivist: i see only for car
12:52 PM archivist: I picked one up off a printing machine a couple of months ago
12:52 PM Loetmichel: gloops: no need to. a good synthesizer can do it as well and is a lot more compact
12:52 PM gloops: you can find pumps, but that is a big ask to hold a sheet of wood while being cut, you need significant flow
12:53 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BUSCH-RA021M3-hr-USED-VACUUM-PUMP-240V-IDEAL-FOR-TABLE-TOP-VACUUM-PACKERS/221984183984?
12:53 PM roycroft: i built a vacuum press for woodworking using a bernoulli vacuum pump, an air compressor, and a vacuum tank
12:53 PM roycroft: it was pretty cheap
12:53 PM Loetmichel: gloops: so far i have faired well with a cheap shopvac
12:53 PM Loetmichel: its a question of surface area though
12:54 PM gloops: Loet a vacuum cleaner?
12:54 PM Loetmichel: the smaller the part the harder it is to hold
12:54 PM Loetmichel: yes
12:54 PM gloops: yeah for a smaller section
12:54 PM archivist: ich http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Becker-Vacuum-Blow-Pump-57CFM-Type-SV5-190-5/263151340922
12:54 PM Loetmichel: nope, for up to 1000*600mm vacuum table
12:54 PM gloops: shockingly cheap archivist
12:54 PM archivist: :)
12:55 PM gloops: the top you can make
12:55 PM archivist: long way to fetch and a bit bigger for the application I had in mind
12:55 PM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJmBF8HzWoc
12:56 PM roycroft: https://www.ebay.com/itm/182881544008
12:56 PM MarcelineVQ: Loetmichel: wiggly table hehe
12:56 PM roycroft: if your hold down table doesn't leak a lot a little pump like that can work really well
12:57 PM IchGucksLive: roycroft: on that price i can get a real one
12:57 PM gloops: interesting
12:57 PM gloops: not a biog think to convert a compressor
12:57 PM Loetmichel: MarcelineVQ: the table the router stands on, yes
12:57 PM MarcelineVQ: yeah
12:58 PM roycroft: a used propane tank works well for a "vacuum storage chamber"
12:58 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.ebay.de/itm/2-5CFM-220V-50Hz-1-4HP-5Pa-Vakuumpumpe-1440r-min-Vacuum-Pump-Low-Noise/253270474238
12:58 PM gloops: excellent Loet, i need a vac table
12:59 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: small volume doesent work well with milling thru though
12:59 PM IchGucksLive: and the big one https://www.ebay.de/itm/8CFM-250W-VakuumpumpeVakuum-Unterdruckpumpe-Pumpe-Vacuum-Pump-Drehschieber-EU/112640999191
12:59 PM roycroft: get a bigger propane tank :)
12:59 PM Loetmichel: for sheet routing work a shopvac is better, wven when only making -0.3 bar
12:59 PM Loetmichel: even
12:59 PM roycroft: but yeah, if you're drilling through the work it's going to be a problem
01:00 PM IchGucksLive: roycroft: therfor are pices of plastic that hold down or leak rubber
01:01 PM IchGucksLive: the SHOP http://www.vakuumtisch.de/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI15r9la3Q1wIVRbobCh2q4wjFEAAYASAAEgJQQ_D_BwE
01:01 PM Loetmichel: roycroft: i do 3mm aluminium on my vacuum table... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWTTP0RomA0
01:01 PM Loetmichel: needs a LOT of volume though
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: cheep https://www.vakuumtisch.de/index.php?page=categorie&cat=141
01:02 PM Loetmichel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqXauMOhWos <- or this one... QUITE a few holes there ;)
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel: you work to mutch
01:05 PM Loetmichel: why do you think?
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel: is the table homemade
01:05 PM Loetmichel: indeed it is
01:06 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14682&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:06 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14685&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:06 PM Loetmichel: http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=14688&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
01:07 PM IchGucksLive: cool
01:07 PM Loetmichel: just a 600*400*20mm slab of PVC milled hollow, placed a 600*400*8mm slab PVC on top, an then drilled a few holes... (about 40k to be exact) ;)
01:08 PM miss0r: hehe nice
01:08 PM miss0r: Have you considered using a chamfer tool on the drilled holes to give the vacuum a bit more pull?
01:08 PM Loetmichel: each hole is 3.15mm 6mm dep and 0.8mm the rest 2 mm
01:08 PM Loetmichel: so i have quite a bit of room to face the plate off
01:08 PM gloops: do you make a living from cnc Loetmichel?
01:09 PM Loetmichel: nope, its just the small machine i bought for the company to make prototypes
01:09 PM gloops: ahh ok
01:10 PM Loetmichel: miss0r: no chamfer, i use 3.15mm holes for that
01:10 PM Loetmichel: and 0.8mm holes thru so i dont lose as much air when one hole gets milled open
01:10 PM IchGucksLive: Grid 10x10
01:11 PM miss0r: ahhh. I understand now :)
01:11 PM Loetmichel: a champfer i have to make anew every time i face off the plate
01:11 PM miss0r: Indeed
01:11 PM Loetmichel: grid 5*10
01:12 PM Loetmichel: every second row offset 5mm
01:14 PM Loetmichel: miss0r: good thing on that: the holes are fitting for mill bit shafts
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:14 PM Loetmichel: so i can use broken mill bits as "stops" for the workpice
01:14 PM miss0r: clever thinking ;)
01:15 PM Loetmichel: comes in handy when i have to make small series
01:17 PM Loetmichel: the plate on the first video for example was such a case
01:17 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ite-c110-dual-voltage-vacuum-pump/142585652909?
01:17 PM Loetmichel: customer decided he wanted an LPT port on the 20 PCs he ordered. after we already had the back plates made.
01:18 PM gloops: what do you do roycroft just drill the gas bottle and tap it for a fitting?
01:18 PM Loetmichel: so i made a program for a single DB25 cutout, threw the first plate on the vacuum table, milled it, vacuum off, switch the plate, vacuum on, and hit start again.
01:20 PM gloops: or weld a plate on and drill that
01:22 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vacuum-pump-Fisherbrand/322885314365? trouble - collection only
01:22 PM archivist: collection can be the best bit
01:23 PM gloops: yeah but im in a built up area, theyd all be bidding on it round here
01:23 PM gloops: theyre cheap in devon or north wales
01:24 PM archivist: depends who is looking mine came from a built up area
01:24 PM gloops: i usually find with tools they go high round here if its collection, you see the same thing miles away 0 bids
01:25 PM gloops: might find a badly worded description
01:25 PM archivist: differing types of vacuum pumps is a problem, oil, vane, centrifugal, piston
01:25 PM gloops: 'grandads old lathe'
01:26 PM gloops: the turbine ones are the most expensive
01:26 PM gloops: but quiet
01:26 PM Crom_: there bt kb working
01:26 PM archivist: I want to produce the pressure/vacuum of a steam engine to develop a measurement/display/indicator diagram
01:27 PM gloops: as roycroft said - store the vacuum, you can get a near total vacuum with a small pump
01:27 PM gloops: over time
01:28 PM archivist: gloops, motor off a vacuum cleaner, needs bypass for cooling though
01:30 PM archivist: some have the cooling bypass built in, liquid vacs
01:30 PM Crom_: archivist: some vacuum cleaner have a serperatefan for cooling, the old hoover and eurekaupright vaccums have zseperate cooling fan
01:31 PM archivist: my mate runs a vacuum cleaner repair shop :)
01:31 PM gloops: http://www.instructables.com/id/convert-a-tire-inflator-type-air-compressor-into-a/
01:31 PM gloops: same for the cheaper compressors they sell in car shops with the plastic valve
01:31 PM Crom_: find yhe right hoover and it has a sheet metal cover in the body you can pull out. i
01:31 PM Crom_: i
01:32 PM Crom_: I used to put one those on top of a 55gallon barrel to make a shop vac
01:34 PM Crom_: gloops: get an air horn kit, JBWeld a hose barb onto tje inlet
01:34 PM MrHindsight: that project sucks
01:34 PM gloops: yeah thats probably the same thing
01:35 PM Crom_: ive gotten 26" of mercury with that vac
01:35 PM gloops: that is for people who degassing a pint of silicone MrHindsight
01:35 PM MrHindsight: sucks the gas right out
01:35 PM Crom_: trips the breaker on my 12amp charger, pulls about 25ish amps
01:36 PM gloops: but same principle for bigger compressors, just get a fitting on the intake port
01:42 PM gloops: bubbles in your silicone molds - heres why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXP6ntNhSUo
01:43 PM Crom_: been thinking of a project, a automagic cripplecard displayer. turn on ignition, placard rotates into stowage position, rotates down on power off
01:45 PM phipli: JT-Shop, jthornton, the new camera arrived today
01:45 PM phipli: so far not been able to get linux to recognise the stream from it
01:46 PM phipli: fswebcam complains that it is "Unable to find a compatible palette format"
01:46 PM Crom_: ugh, not a CVI camera?
01:46 PM phipli: UVC I think
01:55 PM Crom_: hmmm don't know on those, i threw out any camera that took drivers
02:14 PM phipli: it is recognising it...
02:15 PM phipli: lists motion-JPEG as a V4L2 format and everything.... then fails
02:16 PM JT-Shop: hey
02:18 PM phipli: evening
02:19 PM Crom_: bbl
02:42 PM miss0r: Trying to straighten a slightly skewed 25mm hole 115mm deep in mild steel. Now that is one slow boting op
02:43 PM miss0r: boting=boring
02:43 PM miss0r: Turns out my drill press table was not properly locked... Who would have thought :O
02:49 PM andypugh: miss0r: With a boring head? End-mill?
02:50 PM miss0r: Now I have the locked in the mill instead using a boting head
02:50 PM miss0r: damnit! boring head!
02:50 PM phipli: JT-Shop, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_8XifFcpaI
02:51 PM gloops: i can sell you a reliable walker turner drill miss0r lol
02:51 PM miss0r: :]
02:51 PM miss0r: hehe. You could sell me a check list that has an entry about checking if the table is locked
02:52 PM miss0r: That drillpress is pretty solid. But apparently not idiot proof
02:54 PM gloops: easy done though
03:00 PM miss0r: yep
03:01 PM JT-Shop: phipli: sent myself a note to look at it in the morning
03:02 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-compressor-240v-Single-Phase-Ideal-For-Small-Home-Workshop-Etc-NO-RESERVE/272944376057? good vacuum project
03:03 PM gloops: they dont like parting with cash in leeds lol
03:04 PM miss0r: lol
03:05 PM miss0r: I probally wouldn't use that in my shop if it was handed to me for free
03:05 PM chopper79: pcw_mesa: When you were mentioning a diode across the relay coils. Is there a specific value or will let say a IN5406 work fine?
03:05 PM gloops: could be a bit of surface rust in the tank
03:07 PM miss0r: based on what it looks like on the outside, i would say so :D
03:07 PM gloops: motor is worth 20 surely, a plug is £1
03:08 PM miss0r: Hole straightened.
03:08 PM * miss0r is off to bed. see you around
03:08 PM gloops: gday
03:13 PM Frank_10: hi guysss
03:15 PM gloops: evening
03:18 PM SpeedEvil: Maybe.
03:19 PM SpeedEvil: gloops: collection in person always kills your price.
03:19 PM SpeedEvil: almost, anyway
03:19 PM SpeedEvil: Fortunately, USB endoscopes can mean inspecting the tank closely is much easier
03:20 PM SpeedEvil: rinse the tank in phosphoric acid/...
03:20 PM gloops: only 1 in 10 will blow up
03:20 PM gloops: probably far fewer really, 1 in 10000
03:20 PM SpeedEvil: You can also swap the tank out.
03:21 PM gloops: yeah, i was only thinking of the head and motor, anyway if it was used for a vacuum tank it would implode no problem
03:21 PM SpeedEvil: True.
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: Also there simple mitigations. Build it a little sandbag fort
03:22 PM SpeedEvil: help kill the noise too
03:22 PM gloops: yes a small bunker would ensure safety
03:23 PM Frank_10: guys; 5+
03:23 PM Frank_10: the strangest thing happened today
03:23 PM Frank_10: all is good now thou; here it goes
03:24 PM gloops: what happened Frank?
03:25 PM Frank_10: i have a cnc wood router; i was cutting as usual while at the same time cleaning the dust around the machine and the cuts with compressed air; i hitted the air gun to a metal part on the machine and there was a little spark! all of a sudden all servos stop with the spindle but the z axis stepper does not
03:25 PM Frank_10: while having 10 different errors showing up on linuxcnc
03:25 PM Frank_10: i had to restart linuxcnc to get it working
03:26 PM synfinatic: static electricity from the air flowing through the air gun?
03:26 PM Frank_10: okey; and how the heck did that corrupted linuxcnc
03:27 PM Frank_10: more inportantly the mesa card
03:27 PM Frank_10: mind blown
03:27 PM synfinatic: not opto-isolated :)
03:27 PM synfinatic: i really don't know. just my random guessing really
03:28 PM Frank_10: cnc stuff is rocket science sometimes
03:28 PM Frank_10: lol
03:29 PM Frank_10: jesus
03:29 PM gloops: did you touch the spindle Frank? or the cutter?
03:29 PM Frank_10: y axis
03:30 PM Frank_10: i dont think we will find a reasonable explanation
03:31 PM gloops: yes, it was the hand of God
03:31 PM gloops: have heard a few cases where water cooled spindle has an internal leak causing problems like that
03:33 PM Frank_10: air cooled here
03:33 PM Frank_10: dont even try..
03:33 PM Frank_10: heheh
03:33 PM gloops: not that then lol
03:34 PM Frank_10: hell i would be really pissed if it had been worst
03:36 PM gloops: yeah not good when the unexpected happens
03:46 PM MrHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mwmas6hFRQ Raptor router tool change with linuxcnc
03:46 PM MrHindsight: not bad at all for DIY
03:49 PM XXCoder: MrHindsight: not bad
03:49 PM XXCoder: though I wonder about tapers staying clean
03:50 PM Crom_: I bought a 1.5kw air cooled spindle for just reason
03:50 PM Crom_: just that reason
03:54 PM Crom_: saving upmoney for the $619 cncfusion kit so I can cnc my hf x2, and build parts for the 3040, and start working on the 1m x 1m router table
03:55 PM MrHindsight: XXCoder: a non issue with no table to mount materials to cut :)
03:55 PM XXCoder: lol
03:55 PM andypugh: I love how a simple stick pivoting in the middle makes it (relatively) easy to build this spherical dome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSu7EFmjuQM
03:55 PM XXCoder: though I saw other one that have servo cover tools when cutting
03:57 PM MrHindsight: XXCoder: like a window shade
03:58 PM XXCoder: nah loke box top
03:58 PM MrHindsight: andypugh: and a miracle mortar mixer
03:58 PM andypugh: Yes, instant-grab adhesive is apparently nothing new.
04:00 PM andypugh: That cellar probably cost more to build than my entire house.
04:00 PM MrHindsight: buried when done, was wonder why no windows
04:00 PM MrHindsight: wonder/wondering
04:01 PM XXCoder: interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNLvAu_tEEI
04:01 PM MrHindsight: looks like he built it by himself in a day
04:01 PM MrHindsight: maybe two
04:02 PM andypugh: It’s a Gemüsekeller, which I think means it is for storing Vegetables.
04:03 PM sync: yes
04:03 PM MrHindsight: whats the frost line over much of England?
04:04 PM MrHindsight: how about germany?
04:04 PM andypugh: I think that was Austria
04:04 PM andypugh: So it would depend if you are on a glacier :-)
04:04 PM Deejay: no frost here in germany. should be +15°C next days
04:05 PM sync: andypugh: unlikely
04:05 PM sync: probably sub 25k€
04:05 PM andypugh: That Kress spindle toolchanger is cute, but pretty much has to contain a full set of spindle bearings, so I am not sure the Kress brings much to the party.
04:05 PM Deejay: gn8
04:06 PM andypugh: sync: Yes, and my house contains about as many bricks.
04:06 PM MrHindsight: sync: were you shopping for a SLS printer? or just talking to a salesperson
04:06 PM Loetmichel: andypugh: pretty much only the noisy drive motor
04:07 PM sync: MrHindsight: talking with a salesperson in the university
04:07 PM sync: we have one though
04:07 PM andypugh: I haven’t actually got round to wiring up my Chinese spindle yet.
04:07 PM andypugh: Which seems a bit daft when I paid extra for fast delivery, 2 weeks ago.
04:07 PM sync: :D
04:08 PM MrHindsight: andypugh: you don't know how many times I've paid for express delivery only for the parts to not be touched for weeks after they arrive
04:09 PM MrHindsight: but at least you know where they are
04:10 PM MrHindsight: on the other hand I've had express overnight parts take 2 days due to delays by weather or screw ups
04:13 PM MrHindsight: sync: for plastics? Does it use an argon flood?
04:14 PM MrHindsight is now known as CaptHindsight
04:15 PM sync: yes, for plastics
04:15 PM sync: not sure if it has intert gas, I don't think so
04:16 PM sync: ~inert even
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: sync: what is the print volume ?
04:17 PM sync: I think 200x250x300
04:17 PM sync: I have not used it at all, just walked around it
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: average size
04:48 PM CaptHindsight: https://phys.org/news/2017-11-metal-coatings.html
04:49 PM CaptHindsight: particles of metal being sprayed at a surface really do melt the surface—and that, unexpectedly, prevents them from sticking
04:52 PM TetzlaffTobias: Hallo
04:53 PM makerman: For useing servos I need mesa cards ?
05:13 PM rene-dev: makerman: depends
05:23 PM Loetmichel: makerman: there are (were?) some brushed servo controllers that act like steppers. they get a step/dir signal and do the rest
05:24 PM Loetmichel: UHU comes to mind (selfbuild german based controller)
05:26 PM Loetmichel: or this one: http://www.geckodrive.com/geckodrive-brush-dc-drives.html
05:27 PM Loetmichel: CaptHindsight: depends. if they only melt the surface they WILL stick
05:27 PM Loetmichel: if they evaporate the surface they will be repelled
05:27 PM Loetmichel: ( glass vs. polycarbonate shields for welding )
05:28 PM Loetmichel: some sort of leidenfrost effect i would assume.
05:30 PM makerman: Loetmichel, nice danke dafür
05:31 PM makerman: need sleep till next time
07:13 PM CaptHindsight: Loetmichel: "The researchers found that the particles bounce away in much less time than it takes for the surface to resolidify, so they leave the surface that is still molten."
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: "the best bonding happens when the impacting particles and impacted surfaces remain in a solid state but "splash" outward in a way that looks like liquid"

08:01 PM chopper791: Cooling system for 3kw spindle works awesome.
08:04 PM chopper791: Spindle has ran for 6hrs and is sitting at 65F / 19C
08:06 PM chopper791: First time doing a full cooling system on one. Normally I have always just used a bucket and a pump on all my personal machines that use a water cooled spindle.
09:09 PM roycroft: my spindle coolant pump arrives tomorrow
09:09 PM roycroft: i'll probably run the spindle for a prolonged period after i get it
09:09 PM roycroft: the new vfd arrives tomorrow as well
10:18 PM chopper791: Nice... Always fun getting new stuff to work with
