01:04 AM IchGucksLive: Morning from Fog loaded SW Germany
01:14 AM MrHindsight: IchGucksLive: back, last time my ISP went down after you asked
01:17 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: MrHindsight: i recived a image showing the audience of yeaterdays University event
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: only some seets beeing empty
01:25 AM MrHindsight: were 100's there?
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: MrHindsight: http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/nov_17_vortrag_k.jpg
01:26 AM MrHindsight: IchGucksLive: is that you at the podium?
01:26 AM MrHindsight: full house
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: full house woudt be sidesteps
01:27 AM IchGucksLive: and packed rows
01:27 AM IchGucksLive: there are rouphly 1200 students in Metall and the room fits 820
01:28 AM MrHindsight: is it only a full house in Germany if people are sitting 2 to a seat? :)
01:28 AM IchGucksLive: its more then the 24 mashines can take
01:29 AM MrHindsight: how does it feel to be a rockstar after retiring?
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: not that bad to give somthing back to the world
01:31 AM MrHindsight: it nearly bring tears to my eyes to see so many actually engaged at that age
01:31 AM MrHindsight: they were forced to attend?
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: no
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: but they got a examina and know only in this beginning what they expect
01:32 AM MrHindsight: well done sir
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: so all studends want to know about
01:33 AM IchGucksLive: most will see the mashine only once for 5min running while others wont let ther fingers of
01:33 AM MrHindsight: what % will work with the machines on a regular basis?
01:34 AM IchGucksLive: in Uni versito or realk job
01:34 AM MrHindsight: during school
01:34 AM IchGucksLive: CNC 2D is part of all
01:34 AM MrHindsight: very interesting
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: Textile also
01:35 AM MrHindsight: chat more later, only 1:35 here
01:35 AM MrHindsight: zzzzzzzz
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: masking of cake decors
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2
01:42 AM Max is now known as Guest45757
02:03 AM Deejay: moin
02:10 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dainty-vintage-power-hacksaw-hack-saw-as-found/142577126672?
02:10 AM gloops: novel
02:22 AM archivist: might have started out as a set of castings kit
02:31 AM gloops: seem to be a few people making power hacksaws, would have though a bandsaw was a better option
02:32 AM archivist: bandsaw is a lot larger
02:33 AM archivist: modellers seem to like small and flimsy
02:36 AM gloops: thats a hand little saw for someone working with stuff that will fit
02:37 AM gloops: a hacksaw only cuts on one stroke though
02:38 AM archivist: hmm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263327496175
02:38 AM archivist: solid and well used
02:38 AM gloops: did you see that little one i posted?
02:38 AM archivist: yes
02:39 AM archivist: must make space for toys
02:39 AM gloops: someone is on to that bridgeport anyway, i doubt it will make a lot more
02:40 AM archivist: I think that is only part bridgeport
02:42 AM archivist: get that and a solid base like an adcock & shipley
02:46 AM archivist: got to watch ebay sellers uk.homeware-diy location germany chinese name
02:46 AM archivist: but he has got 99.8 feedback
02:47 AM gloops: well, looks like its been in production use, must be useable
02:50 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manual-Vertical-Milling-Machine/232559354135?
02:50 AM gloops: yet another, i suspect some of these machines are trapped in an endless cycle of going through ebay
02:51 AM archivist: that last one looks looked after in a homeworkshop
02:52 AM gloops: nice bedroom wallpaper
02:52 AM gloops: lol
02:53 AM gloops: funny how it goes though, sometimes there are dozens - another time you dont see any
02:56 AM archivist: I think that last is a named brand
02:58 AM gloops: some accessories as well, they must be worth a good part of the current bid
02:59 AM archivist: round column though so crap for accuracy
03:01 AM gloops: cant see that wandering far
03:02 AM archivist: I had a round column machine many years ago, got rid :)
03:03 AM archivist: the clamping around the column was an issue
03:04 AM archivist: setting height is a real pain
03:05 AM gloops: well i better get something done
03:06 AM archivist: one job for today put bin out, done, now what
04:02 AM gloops: just cut some steel while bin lorry was about, trying to keep grinding noise to a minimum heh
04:04 AM gloops: was ok where i was a lad on the corner was into stock cars, they were in the garage early and on the drive grinding and welding all day, kinda took the attention off me making noise
04:04 AM gloops: but hes moved
04:06 AM archivist: I try yo keep my noise 9-5 ish
04:19 AM IchGucksLive: hi all
04:19 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: now offical germany first
04:27 AM XXCoder: hey
04:37 AM XXCoder: good news if you have personal jet! there is tax breaks coming
04:58 AM gloops: germany first Ichs? is this some kind of political movement?
04:59 AM XXCoder: gloops: considering usa just had "make america great again" I'd be not surpised.
05:00 AM gloops: we have Britain First
05:00 AM gloops: i think thats where trump got it from
05:00 AM XXCoder: make germany great again
05:00 AM XXCoder: 1940
05:00 AM gloops: dont start all that again lol
05:01 AM XXCoder: MAGA and MGGA
05:02 AM archivist: eu was starting that again, hence kicking them off out island
05:02 AM archivist: our
05:02 AM gloops: yes archivist, best thing uk has done for a long time imo
05:03 AM jthornton: morning
05:04 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: the Ranking of the Wolds countrys is out
05:04 AM gloops: whats germany first at?
05:04 AM IchGucksLive: UK lost its second place to trance
05:04 AM XXCoder: brexit still going on>?
05:05 AM gloops: yes im sure we've gone down in the estimation of the global banks who draw these lists up
05:05 AM IchGucksLive: Best Country in the world to Be/Live/Work
05:05 AM gloops: good
05:05 AM IchGucksLive: UK now 3rd
05:05 AM IchGucksLive: USA dropped to 6th
05:05 AM gloops: everybody - go to germany, not the uk
05:05 AM IchGucksLive: france is second
05:05 AM XXCoder: MAGA!! :P
05:05 AM IchGucksLive: XXCoder: ad a N
05:05 AM * archivist rofls at france getting into any tables at all
05:06 AM XXCoder: ?
05:06 AM XXCoder: archivist: france is pretty tough country
05:06 AM archivist: bunch of striking farmers
05:06 AM IchGucksLive: let me look if i can find the ranking issues
05:11 AM IchGucksLive: Whow there is a world DonaldT News ranking
05:12 AM gloops: wow just received an interesting parcel - some pulleys and belts an old woman was selling, but also 2 rollon linear slide things
05:12 AM * gloops suddenly sees new z axis design
05:12 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: in Augest the UK got the first European country since without coal to power day
05:12 AM XXCoder: gloops: ladies send you weird stuff?
05:12 AM gloops: id bring coal back
05:12 AM XXCoder: nah
05:13 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: are you building your own miner
05:13 AM gloops: XXCoder this old woman has been selling old cnc stuff for a while, husband deceased, steppers, belts pulleys odd bits and bobs
05:13 AM XXCoder: coal will run out. sun will run out also... in 5 billion years
05:13 AM XXCoder: interesting
05:13 AM gloops: i saw these linear slides on the photo - they looked pretty cheap and flimsy - they are rock solid heavy duty
05:14 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: you got the first g-code move already
05:14 AM gloops: Rollon csw43-150
05:15 AM gloops: http://www.linearmotion.co.nz/webfiles/LinearMotionNZ/files/Rollon_Compact_rail_Indexed.pdf
05:15 AM IchGucksLive: there are inside fast slider boxes
05:15 AM IchGucksLive: like packing mashines
05:15 AM IchGucksLive: can take 100m/sec
05:15 AM gloops: theyre solid, 4 big bearings inside a square rail with proper wipers
05:16 AM IchGucksLive: this is expensive stuff
05:16 AM gloops: i can imagine that, heavy well made
05:17 AM IchGucksLive: i woudt build nearly 2 mashines on price off one of them
05:17 AM IchGucksLive: BOSCH Rexroth
05:18 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off i got badly beaten today on YT as 45 Thumb downs
05:18 AM IchGucksLive: last 24hr
05:23 AM XXCoder: just read about NK solder who defected to south
05:23 AM XXCoder: he was shot 6 times when he was trying to escake nk
05:23 AM XXCoder: and he has massive amount of worm parastes :(
05:27 AM gloops: poor fella
05:27 AM XXCoder: yeah. NK in general isnt in good condition.
05:28 AM XXCoder: usa is heading there
05:28 AM XXCoder: they have included tax breaks into personal jet maintance taxes
05:28 AM XXCoder: and cutting off internet access aid programs for poor
05:29 AM XXCoder: internet is quite vital access nowdays
06:35 AM monkeyisl: <IchGucksLive> monkeyis2: this is my advice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I00ArvYvZgI <-- this was a joke?... lol
07:05 AM archivist: he sometimes does not realise what the user wants
07:46 AM gregcnc: anyone happen to know what code a lathe chuck falls under in the US Harmonized tariff?
08:09 AM jdh: scrap metal sounds good
08:10 AM archivist: going to stand out when it goes through the xray
08:12 AM gregcnc: jdh yeah doesn't work that way
08:13 AM gregcnc: had to look it up fedex wouldn't clear it without a good enough description
08:33 AM gloops: dont know, in the uk machinery and industrial equipment get taxed - i just got a bill from fedex
08:33 AM gloops: only £20 - on a £200 order
08:34 AM archivist: below a certain value, no tax
08:37 AM gregcnc: seems like they will hit me for 3.7%
08:39 AM gloops: also, these sbr bearing blocks are pretty crappy, seems to be at least 1 dodgy tapping on every one
08:40 AM gregcnc: there is no scrap in China, it all sells
08:41 AM archivist: I have seen false info on the green label from china
08:42 AM gloops: you can mess about with them and sort them out, i dont know how people go on who are just really amateur diy with no tools and buy a kit to assemble
08:43 AM archivist: we had a kit builder in here a while ago, he failed
08:44 AM gloops: you need to know how to make it to put it right
08:47 AM archivist: telling him to shim something was hard work
08:51 AM _methods: that guy was so annoying
08:51 AM _methods: had to block that clown
08:52 AM _methods: come in here asking the same thing over and over for months
08:52 AM miss0r: Who are we talking about here? I can't remember running into that guy
08:52 AM _methods: polymoron
08:52 AM _methods: or something like that
08:52 AM miss0r: I guess the name says it all :)
08:53 AM miss0r: I still have two VFDs laying around(3 phase 400 volts, 7,5kw). I'm giving them away
08:54 AM gloops: what do you reckon to these - https://postimg.org/image/b1prlud9j/
08:54 AM miss0r: I'd feel horrible throwing them out, but I don't have room for keeping all the stuff i don't want to throw out :]
08:55 AM miss0r: I'm not even sure what i'm looking at. Some sort of linear bearings?
08:55 AM FinboySlick: miss0r: Good on you to keep your hoarder tendencies in check. I find it quite difficult personally.
08:55 AM FinboySlick: "Oh but I might need that in 15 years" is a bit of a constant nag in the back of my mind.
08:55 AM gloops: https://postimg.org/image/dycsll8nb/
08:55 AM miss0r: FinboySlick: Atleast i'm giving off the apearence that I am working on it :P
08:56 AM gloops: yeah rollon linear slide
08:56 AM miss0r: They don't look like they can handle too much force
08:56 AM gloops: dont think they are intended for cutting machine use but they seem really solid
08:56 AM gloops: deceiving, they are really heavy and sturdy
08:57 AM miss0r: alright :]
08:57 AM miss0r: Then use them for something like that then ?
08:57 AM gloops: might be a question mark over accuracy i dunno
08:57 AM miss0r: Don't be like me'n keep stuff you don't need ;)
08:58 AM miss0r: you can always test that
08:58 AM archivist: hoarding++
08:58 AM gloops: its a bit of effort to test really though lol
08:58 AM gloops: like, they need to be on the machine cutting
08:59 AM miss0r: Or you could mount a dial indicator on the carriage and run it along a straightedge?
08:59 AM gloops: suppose could clamp the rail and put some force on the slider see what gives
08:59 AM gloops: yeah could do
08:59 AM miss0r: yeah. Strain is one thing. I would just start by looking at linearity
08:59 AM archivist: bolt a lever on one see if there is any play
09:00 AM gloops: im sure they are straight enough for what i want, its if theres any give in the bearings really
09:00 AM gloops: ill nip one up gently in the vice later and give it some lateral force
09:00 AM miss0r: Sure. just keep in mind that inaccuracy is stackable.
09:01 AM gloops: just wondered - Ichs said they were brilliant wondered if anyone else had seen them
09:01 AM miss0r: I've never seen thoes before. but the design pretty much dictates some sort of cover for thoes rails. They could clog up fast
09:02 AM miss0r: frek! I'm out of coffee beans!
09:02 AM miss0r: I'll be back later
09:03 AM gloops: theyve got wipers, hmm probably not be in the direct blast of any cutting theyre above it, maybe sort some kind of cover or shield
09:05 AM gregcnc: miss0r ebay?
09:06 AM archivist: he went
09:07 AM gregcnc: duty or not, i'll be happy to have a jaw chuck for my lathe
09:09 AM archivist: er all chucks have jaws, /me tries to parse
09:09 AM gregcnc: but they aren't 95mm for 70mm spindles
09:20 AM gloops: you can get a chuck with dogs
09:21 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adept-Super-Adept-lathe-1-3-4-diameter-3-jaw-dog-chuck/182895956026?
09:21 AM gloops: hey thats not bad for 10 quid
09:21 AM gregcnc: those must be for roughing
09:22 AM gloops: independent 3 jaw
09:23 AM gloops: or..3 dog heh
09:23 AM archivist: adept was a low cost make from eons ago
09:24 AM gregcnc: or for rough stock, tough crowd
09:24 AM archivist: box chuck is better term for it
09:24 AM gloops: it is a relatively very low cost way to make a chuck
09:25 AM gregcnc: i'd like to see a cheaper chuck
09:26 AM archivist: https://www.cousinsuk.com/product/lathe-box-chuck
09:27 AM archivist: comes from a time when we make cheaper and nastier than china
09:27 AM gloops: i made a steady a bit like that
09:28 AM gloops: well, the old type lathe dog and pin is a very good way to turn between centres
09:28 AM gloops: this idea isnt the same thing though
09:30 AM archivist: http://www.lathes.co.uk/adept/img1.jpg
09:30 AM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-ANTIQUE-LATHE-SUPER-ADEPT-WATCHMAKERS-JEWELLERS-GOOD-PROJECT-NO-MOTOR/282523075537?
09:31 AM archivist: somebody flashed the cash https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manual-Vertical-Milling-Machine/232559354135
09:31 AM archivist: 10 times over priced
09:32 AM gloops: the old one is still at 100
09:32 AM monkeyisl: what driver type should i choose for "RKD514L-A" stepdriver?
09:33 AM monkeyisl: or.. i have to get params from datasheet
09:33 AM gregcnc: best to check specs
09:36 AM archivist: see page two of pdf
09:36 AM archivist: one sets the current with a resistor
09:37 AM monkeyisl: datasheet?
09:37 AM archivist: they have two manuals/pdfs on site
09:37 AM archivist: the connection one
09:38 AM archivist: https://catalog.orientalmotor.com/item/all-categories/stepping-motor-drivers/rkd514l-a
09:39 AM monkeyisl: cool
09:39 AM archivist: will need to read the manual as well, not seen a rotation angle input before
10:10 AM archivist: I wonder how round these are, to make a home brew CMM reference ball https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372135109980
10:13 AM cradek: archivist: I want to attach a cylinder of probably 2.00 or 3.00 or 4.00 mm diameter to one jaw of a micrometer for measuring mainspring thicknesses. do you have an idea what cylinder I could get?
10:14 AM cradek: hm I guess I could just rezero it, if I don't find an integer number of mm
10:14 AM skunkworks_: cradek, did you get your taper figured out?
10:15 AM archivist: some mitutoyo have replaceable anvils
10:15 AM cradek: skunkworks_: better yet, I found the original center
10:15 AM skunkworks_: nice!
10:15 AM archivist: but I generally bend flat and use my calipers
10:15 AM cradek: http://timeguy.com/cradek-files/emc/IMG_20171114_210824.jpg
10:16 AM cradek: archivist: yeah some springs you can just squish flat, or modern ones even have a flat area
10:16 AM cradek: skunkworks_: it was stuck in this tailstock-taper-matching collet!
10:16 AM cradek: all along I thought they were one piece.
10:17 AM cradek: starrett has a 5mm ball you can buy for a few bucks, but no cylinders
10:17 AM skunkworks_: heh - been there...
10:17 AM IchGucksLive: hi monkeyisl stil online
10:18 AM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: why do you use this OLD oriental drivers
10:25 AM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : hi, i bought i from local market.. cheap.
10:25 AM monkeyisl: *it
10:26 AM IchGucksLive: it got a a bad timing so many parameters
10:26 AM monkeyisl: it was like 60 usd inc. the motor.
10:26 AM IchGucksLive: where in the world are you
10:26 AM IchGucksLive: Europ
10:27 AM monkeyisl: bad timing? ... 5 phase driver shouldn't have bad timing.. should it?
10:28 AM IchGucksLive: datasheet says 35000,35000,8000,8000
10:28 AM gregcnc: cradek https://www.ebay.com/itm/112638223657
10:28 AM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: i call that a bad timming
10:29 AM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: the ODD tb6600 at 8USD does twice that value
10:29 AM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive: oh what page you read it?
10:29 AM IchGucksLive: the datasheet of the manufacter of your driver
10:29 AM monkeyisl: yes imean what page?
10:30 AM monkeyisl: http://www.orientalmotor.com/products/pdfs/opmanuals/HM-40029-4E.pdf of this
10:30 AM IchGucksLive: there is a waveform on it
10:30 AM monkeyisl: ahh
10:30 AM archivist: cradek, uk version https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Moore-and-Wright-0-1-multi-anvil-uni-micrometer-number-970F/152760151062
10:31 AM IchGucksLive: 38+
10:31 AM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: 38+
10:31 AM archivist: cradek, or a thread mic like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40132801-0-25MM-Screw-Thread-Measuring-Special-Sharp-Blade-Anvil-Micrometer/272724105852
10:31 AM IchGucksLive: im off till later
10:33 AM gregcnc: what was Ich getting at?
10:33 AM cradek: those look awesome
10:33 AM cradek: but I already have a spare 0-10 metric micrometer I just want to add a part to
10:33 AM monkeyisl: ahh step on time means positive duty? and step space means negative duty? lol in NS? or what
10:37 AM archivist: with drivers there are minimum times else they can miss steps
10:37 AM monkeyisl: datasheet says 2.5us on , 2.5 us off
10:37 AM monkeyisl: 2.5us+ on , 2.5us+ off
10:37 AM pcw_home: No step on time means active time (whether is high or low depends in the drive)
10:37 AM archivist: just make times larger for safety
10:38 AM monkeyisl: ahh ok.
10:38 AM monkeyisl: but what's unit?
10:38 AM monkeyisl: 35000 and no unit
10:38 AM archivist: no unit would be a reportable bug
10:38 AM archivist: ns though
10:39 AM pcw_home: as a rule of thumb I would double the minimum times unless it interferes with the required maximum step rate on your hardware
10:39 AM monkeyisl: got it..
10:39 AM pcw_home: in LinuxCNC most small time units are in nanoseconds
10:40 AM pcw_home: so 35000 ns = 35 us
10:40 AM monkeyisl: er?.. datasheet is saying 2.5us+ why he said 35us and and gone?
10:40 AM monkeyisl: trolling? L
10:41 AM gregcnc: just Ichs always in a hurry
10:41 AM monkeyisl: k
10:43 AM pcw_home: Also there's really no performance penalty in setting the direction setup and hold times quite long
10:43 AM pcw_home: (since these only come into play when near 0 velocity and the step rate is very low)
10:44 AM Loetmichel: *MAAAAN* Why me all the time? just got a call from my wife... "can you come home early today? the (natural gas) warm water boiler is off... and the neighbor already tried an hour, he cant restart it... so i went home a bit early from work, straight to the cellar. pressed the safety walve of the boiler, pressed the piezo: no starter flame... AND NO SPARK? followed the hot wire from the piezo
10:44 AM Loetmichel: to the pilot nozzle: AHEM, that dosent work so good with the electrode on the floor instead of the silicone holder right next to the pilot nozzle... So i put the wire back where it belongs, hold the safety agein, pushed the piezo: *FUB* there is the pilot flame... 21..22..23..24..25.. let go of the safety, main valve on "operate" ... FFFFFFUMMMMPPP there it goes... Great job, vaillant... next
10:44 AM Loetmichel: time use a better means of fixing that electrode so it can fall out just by gravity :-(
10:44 AM gregcnc: accel reduces speed at reversal anyway
11:00 AM monkeyisl: weird.
11:01 AM monkeyisl: i've changed step-on, space, dir-hold,setup.. time like 10000 to 1000 to test. i don't see any difference on my scope...
11:06 AM archivist: go bigger to see not smaller
11:11 AM monkeyisl: oh
11:12 AM monkeyisl: i input 10,000 for all values but it's set back to 5000 ... when i press test/tune axis..
11:12 AM monkeyisl: btw motor is rotating though..
11:13 AM JT-Shop: you have to save it first
11:13 AM JT-Shop: IIRC
11:13 AM monkeyisl: https://imgur.com/a/7HmFH
11:13 AM monkeyisl: always 2.5us..
11:14 AM monkeyisl: let me try
11:20 AM monkeyisl: looks i have to save..
11:21 AM monkeyisl: who coded this wizard?
11:21 AM monkeyisl: right opensource i shoudn't complain.
11:21 AM gloops: stepconfig?
11:22 AM monkeyisl: pncconf
11:22 AM gloops: oh, not used that
11:23 AM gloops: stepconfig is v good i think i dont know how it could be made any easier
11:23 AM monkeyisl: stepconfig is one of step of pncconf?
11:24 AM gloops: what are you doing with pncconf?
11:24 AM monkeyisl: it shows "Motor X"
11:25 AM monkeyisl: so i think i'm playing with stepper
11:25 AM gloops: cant open it on this pc to look, well not on this drive
11:26 AM gloops: not really got the context of your machine or what youre trying to do monkey
11:29 AM gregcnc: may help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QhrtteG1M4
11:31 AM monkeyisl: cooll thanks bookmarked
11:38 AM monkeyisl: JT-Shop : https://imgur.com/a/eN8Z4 why those guys are so HOT? i shouldn't say 40c is hot though.. just saying.
11:43 AM JT-Shop: I have limited bandwidth I assume your speaking of a stepper?
11:45 AM hazzy: Mesa card? Those are hot
11:45 AM monkeyisl: JT-Shop : that's 7i76
11:46 AM monkeyisl: i could just add fan.. not a problem :)
11:47 AM hazzy: Yea, but they are not even wired up? Just sitting there, right? seems odd ...
11:47 AM monkeyisl: nothing.
11:47 AM monkeyisl: i have turned off step driver.
11:47 AM monkeyisl: so it's nohting on it.
11:47 AM hazzy: good afternoon chopper79
11:47 AM monkeyisl: but resistors and some logic ic is getting hot..
11:48 AM JT-Shop: monkeyisl: that doesn't sound right, I just touched my 7i77 and it is ambient temperature
11:48 AM hazzy: Hm, my 7i76 stays stone cold.
11:48 AM monkeyisl: i think i didn't set it all properly yet. so i'm gengerating some uselss signals.
11:49 AM JT-Shop: pcw_home: would know if they should be hot or not
11:50 AM monkeyisl: now it's getting cooled.
11:51 AM monkeyisl: not high is 38.8
11:52 AM monkeyisl: jt-shop ambient tempature doesn't sound right. btw it's obviously 30c+ cuz its ON.
11:53 AM JT-Shop: yea mine is not running a servo just powered up
11:55 AM hazzy: monkeyisl: all the chips on my 7i76 stay near ambient even when running the machine for several hours. There is a fan in the box, but is does not move much air, but maybe enough to make a difference
11:56 AM monkeyisl: hazzy : have you measured it? or you're guessing
11:57 AM hazzy: Used a fluke IR camera, so it might have been a fluke :)
11:57 AM monkeyisl: btw 30~40 is nothing.
11:58 AM monkeyisl: hazzy : oh, are you sing pcie5v?
11:58 AM hazzy: monkeyisl: No
11:59 AM hazzy: I have an external 5V supply
11:59 AM monkeyisl: i'm using pcie5v lol probablay .. we found difference.
11:59 AM hazzy: ah, that might be it
12:01 PM Chopper79: hazzy: Thanks and same to you
12:03 PM JT-Shop: Chopper79: what are you doing to blow up the 7i76E's
12:05 PM Chopper79: JT-Shop: nothing that I know of. I ut my 7i77+7i92m into the machine all the same connections as far as field ower and 5v ower and no issue. Connected all the I/O and still no problem. Also ut in a 7i76+5i25 and no issue either.
12:05 PM Chopper79: roblem is my key
12:06 PM Chopper79: haha
12:06 PM Chopper79: problem fixed now my P works
12:08 PM Chopper79: So I am not sure at the moment. Just gonna throw more money at it I guess and also order the boards for the next 2 builds. I am going to send the 2 burnt ones back to Mesa to have them repair/replace after they inspect them.
12:09 PM JT-Shop: yea just get a RMA from pcw_home before sending back
12:10 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:10 PM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : where did you get those number? i'm puzzled
12:11 PM monkeyisl: datasheet says 2.5us+ for high / low
12:11 PM IchGucksLive: on side 38 it says spacing for Dir is 2times 10us
12:12 PM Chopper79: JT-Shop: I will and also thanks for shiiping so quick
12:12 PM IchGucksLive: with a min offsaet of 2.5us per edge
12:12 PM Chopper79: shiping
12:12 PM Chopper79: p
12:12 PM monkeyisl: 35000 is 35us right?
12:12 PM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: also the step is on 2us + 2times min 2.5us
12:12 PM IchGucksLive: yes
12:12 PM JT-Shop: turn that keyboard upside down and blow it out lol
12:13 PM IchGucksLive: so for save movement it is to go 35000,35000,8000,8000
12:13 PM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : we are talking about 1 pulse mode?
12:13 PM IchGucksLive: yes
12:13 PM IchGucksLive: if you are woring then go down till it gots stalled
12:14 PM IchGucksLive: on workpice not clean air
12:15 PM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: im talking on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdvROAlCMMQ
12:15 PM IchGucksLive: if it workses this it is ok
12:15 PM IchGucksLive: on maybe 12000.12000.3000.3000
12:16 PM Chopper79: Just did... Lets see if it helps
12:16 PM jelly-home is now known as hurtigbuffer
12:17 PM hurtigbuffer is now known as jelly
12:24 PM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : https://forum.linuxcnc.org/16-stepconf-wizard/31893-how-to-find-the-driver-timing
12:24 PM IchGucksLive: up to you
12:29 PM monkeyisl: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/9d99a308bc59d1efb72c19535eace818cb4e51c9/src/hal/components/stepgen.c
12:29 PM monkeyisl: there is come clue
12:30 PM IchGucksLive: monkeyisl: did you see movement at all
12:30 PM monkeyisl: i'm not ready to see it yet.
12:30 PM monkeyisl: i just moved 1 stepper. so i have to waste more time to set up all stystem. probbly not goning to happen within a week.
12:31 PM monkeyisl: i've just seen if my PC works.
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: are you in america
12:31 PM monkeyisl: nope, asia
12:31 PM IchGucksLive: how big is yur mashine
12:32 PM pcw_mesa: warm is normal for the parts shown (26LS32 and termination resistors)
12:32 PM monkeyisl: pcw_mesa : ok.
12:33 PM pcw_mesa: nominal 26LS32 power is 250 mW
12:37 PM pcw_mesa: so nominal ~23C above ambient at ~90 c/w
12:38 PM monkeyisl: IchGucksLive : 370 500
12:39 PM monkeyisl: pcw_mesa : how much pcie5v current could i expect? have you measured?
12:40 PM monkeyisl: so there ie ptc. k
12:40 PM monkeyisl: nayway i don't know 26LS32 hit 40c+ on my setup.( i set nothing. )
12:42 PM monkeyisl: coordnate is U2
12:42 PM pcw_mesa: It has nothing to do with your settings, the 26LS32 draws about 50 mA idle
12:42 PM monkeyisl: lol i see
12:43 PM pcw_mesa: 26LS31 also draws significant idle current
12:56 PM rene-dev: pcw_mesa: Do you have a 7i92_7i74 firmware? I need the 7i74 on P2
12:58 PM pcw_mesa: I probably have the pinout file if not a bitfile
12:58 PM rene-dev: bitfile would be better :)
12:58 PM pcw_mesa: anything on P1? (not sure if 2x 7I74 will fit)
12:59 PM rene-dev: no... if 2x 7i74 fits would be better, but no need
01:00 PM pcw_mesa: let me poke around and see what Ive got...
01:00 PM rene-dev: thanks
01:02 PM rene-dev: someone (not me) hooked up the 5v back to front, now P1 stopped working, but P2 is ok
01:02 PM rene-dev: looks like one of the buffers died
01:03 PM rene-dev: cr5 was smoking
01:07 PM pcw_mesa: Oww!
01:07 PM rene-dev: is cr5 just reverse polarity protection?
01:08 PM pcw_mesa: yes
01:08 PM pcw_mesa: helps with wimpy supplies only though
01:09 PM rene-dev: fpga works, and I can flash it. anything I hook up to P2 also works fine. it seems to have only toasted P1
01:09 PM pcw_mesa: probably the bus switch part
01:10 PM pcw_mesa: thats also what goes if you put say 12V on the 5V pin
01:12 PM pcw_mesa: looks like 2x 7i74 will fit but it will take a while since its tight (note that P1 = sserial port 1 )
01:12 PM pcw_mesa: ( P2 being sserial port 0 )
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_mesa: i can get 3 encoders A-B I from heidenhain this are SIN not rectengular is there any way to read them with a 7i76
01:15 PM rene-dev: ok
01:15 PM pcw_mesa: You need an interpolator ( Heidenhain EXE box or IC-Haus demo board )
01:15 PM rene-dev: thanks :)
01:15 PM rene-dev: IchGucksLive: or stmbl ;D
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: 70 euros and homemade
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: i think i go with a homemade atmel48
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: give it a try
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: with a mcp602
01:21 PM rene-dev: pcw_mesa: while you at it, could you do the same for a 5i25?
01:23 PM rene-dev: IchGucksLive: you cant make a proper interpolator with an atmel48
01:27 PM pcw_mesa: Oops doesn't fit, close enough it tried to route but failed
01:28 PM rene-dev: ok, nevermind, 8 sserial channels are plenty.
01:30 PM Chopper79: Need to find a good used D1-11 cam lock 15" chuck for my Alpha retro I am doing here shortly. Anybody have any good recommendations on companies that have treated you good for parts like this?
01:31 PM JT-Shop: I've gotten a few Bison chucks made in Poland
01:31 PM JT-Shop: I got them from MSC
01:32 PM Chopper79: Have to check msc out and see what they have.
01:32 PM Chopper79: Thanks
01:34 PM Chopper79: Could go up to a 21" chuck but that may be overkill for me. Excited about the 3.5" spindle bore and the 80" between centers though.
01:34 PM JT-Shop: I have a 4 jaw D1-8 10" on my Samson
01:35 PM pcw_mesa: rene-dev: the 5I25 7I74X2 config is in 5i25.zip
01:36 PM rene-dev: ah, ok
01:37 PM Chopper79: If I went with the 21" I would need to put a chuck inside of a chuck to make small parts. Not sure how comfortable I am with that. Seen it done many times though.
01:38 PM rene-dev: can you still build the 7i92_7i74?
01:38 PM JT-Shop: I have a 5C collet chuck for small parts that I chuck up and center in the 4 jaw
01:38 PM Chopper79: Link?
01:38 PM rene-dev: ah, is it the same fpga, but the ethernet takes more space than the pci?
01:39 PM rene-dev: BTW, it was only a wimpy 16A supply :D
01:43 PM gloops: anyone in uk need a cheap nema34 with driver - 12nM
01:46 PM pcw_mesa: rene-dev: working on it, had to lower my expectations...
01:47 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:48 PM pcw_mesa: you coule probably do 2x 7I74 with just 4 or 6 channels on the second 7I74, but I dont want to play around with that ATM
01:49 PM rene-dev: no need, 8 channels are ok
01:49 PM Contract_Pilot: Sitting here thinking Grids on the windows seem like bars = jail
01:51 PM pcw_mesa: http://freeby.mesanet.com/7i92_7i74x1dr.bit
01:52 PM pcw_mesa: I usually use a USB power thief for the 7I92, hard to break anything with 500 ma
01:54 PM Chopper79: Gotta run... have a good one everybody.
01:55 PM rene-dev: thanks :)
01:58 PM rene-dev: pcw_mesa: hmm, readhmid reports all channels on P1
02:14 PM pcw_mesa: oops got so involved in getting it to fit, I forgot what you wanted
02:17 PM pcw_mesa: http://freeby.mesanet.com/7i92_7i74x1d.bit
02:34 PM rene-dev: pcw_mesa: thanks, working :)
02:57 PM Connor: So, getting a DRO for my mill. 4 Axis.. It has X Y Z as expected.. and K (assuming for Knee) but, it also has another to the right called W any thoughts as to why it would have 5 buttons and only 4 read outs ?
03:16 PM gloops: i dont know anything about it, but maybe because you can only run one or the other axis at one time?
03:19 PM sync: Connor: quill
04:00 PM Deejay: gn8
04:46 PM Connor: sync: I would think K for the Knee and Z for the quill
04:53 PM djdelorie: and W for the whatchamacallits
04:54 PM sync: Connor: what if your quill is not in the Z plane?
04:54 PM sync: think HBM
04:57 PM Connor: sync: This is the one I'm getting. http://www.tpactools.com/4-AXIS-DRO-DIGTAL-READOUT-BRIDGEPORT-MILL-PACKAGE-ALL-4-GLASS-SCALES_p_55.html
04:58 PM Connor: and the W is on the far side.. I'm going to set it up so that K is for the Knee and Z is the quill.. At least.. I think that's how I should set it up..
05:00 PM Roguish: connor: hey, TPACTOOLS is ok, i've purchased from them.
05:01 PM gregcnc: Turns out they are at the same address as CDCO
05:02 PM Connor: Roguish: They're on eBay (which is how I found them) charge an extra $25.00 for the same unit on ebay.. I ALWAYS search for a normal online store before buying from ebay.. for that very reason.
05:03 PM JT-Shop: hey Roguish
05:04 PM Roguish: I've dealt direct. really helped. took an exchange for a mis-order
05:04 PM Connor: gregcnc: Where did you find there address? I'll I see is ships from Chicago
05:04 PM gregcnc: no address on the site, no manuals just proves how hungry people are for stuff
05:04 PM gregcnc: google
05:05 PM Connor: He sent me a pdf of the manual in email. :)
05:05 PM JT-Shop: Roguish: one of my customers just called and said I will be paying a lot of taxes next year :)
05:05 PM MarcelineVQ: JT-Shop: omy
05:05 PM Roguish: hey, i dont
05:06 PM Roguish: i don't mind paying taxes. means i made some money. just not always happy with the poor value for my tax dollars....
05:07 PM JT-Shop: yep I'm the same way if I have to pay I made money and put some away
05:08 PM MarcelineVQ: Connor: according to http://www.thedrostore.com/details-promo-4iset.htm the other LCD strip is just for info. possibly there's an option to add another scale, given that the W looks the same as the other axis, dunno
05:08 PM Roguish: JT-Shop: hey, chef, what's on the menu for Thanksgiving dinner?
05:08 PM MarcelineVQ: e.g. "4 LED 8 Segment display for X,Y,Z,U Axis" "1 LED display for information/help display"
05:09 PM JT-Shop: dunno we are going with the old fart biker gang to Branson on Thanksgiving day and spending the weekend there
05:09 PM JT-Shop: I drive the party van lol
05:10 PM Roguish: think safety when driving on a holiday.
05:11 PM JT-Shop: of course
05:24 PM JT-Shop: chickens are all on the roost and wife just got home so time to retire for the night
06:46 PM chopper79: off topic but I got some ducks hatching.....Eventful night of machining and ducks hatching.
07:15 PM skunkworks_: Connor, long time no see
07:42 PM R2E4: evening, morning, afternoon, think I got it covered....
08:02 PM hazzy: evening R2E4 :)
10:45 PM Connor: Hey skunkworks_ Yea.. I troll allot.. not said very much in a long while.
10:45 PM Connor: err.. lurk.. not troll.
10:49 PM tiwake: such troll
10:50 PM tiwake: lurking so much you forget the difference between troll and lurk
11:34 PM hazzy: hazzy's VKB is looking better: https://i.imgur.com/EDZTeqY.png
11:41 PM hazzy: gn8
11:52 PM chopper79: sweet
11:54 PM chopper79: Fun time tuning servos tonight. Nice when you have 12" of travel on your Z axis and the rapids are 450ipm. Think I might turn it down to 300ipm as its pretty scary at 450ipm in a 12" span.
11:55 PM chopper79: 60sec/sec on acceleration.
11:57 PM MarcelineVQ: you'll shoot your eye out
