12:46 AM IchGucksLive: Good morning
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: LATER
01:50 AM Deejay: moin
02:08 AM Loetmichel: maan, i am REALLY not awake in the morings. drove to the ATM at my home, inserte4d the card: draw a complete blank at the pin... pulled tha card, drove top the comany, did another atm there 15 minutes later: typed in the pin like i never forgot it...
02:09 AM Deejay: lol
02:10 AM Deejay: if you need to start to think about the pin, you are lost. if the automatism works, you are fine
02:11 AM Loetmichel: jey, that
02:52 AM Loetmichel: *MAAAN* That fault really had me puzzled for three quarters of an hour. Lid open: audio working perfectly. Lid closed: missing left channel... after a while i dismantled the injection molded plug... and pulled the white wire right out of the insulation... Chinese quality: broken wire strands included :-( -> http://www.cyrom.org/palbum/main.php?g2_itemId=16885&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
02:58 AM Contract_Pilot: How toi bypass craigslist auto flag on magazines. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/for/d/vintage-magazines-not-the/6366433493.html

04:36 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
04:49 AM Contract_Pilot: Cannot Sleep Again
04:58 AM IchGucksLive: Contract_Pilot: then do cnc stuff
05:14 AM XXCoder: can not count
05:33 AM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel: kanst du eine kleine eagle routen mit dienen fachwissen
06:04 AM Tom_itx: morning
06:04 AM XXCoder: hey
06:04 AM XXCoder: running any Can Not Count machine?
06:07 AM jthornton: morning
06:07 AM jthornton: 36F
06:07 AM Tom_itx: 35°F
06:07 AM XXCoder: 41f
06:07 AM XXCoder: friday will be last semi-sunny day
06:07 AM XXCoder: sat to sunday of next week nonstop rain'
06:07 AM XXCoder: great weeks for fulling up rain tank
06:09 AM XXCoder: too bad since here is rainforest biome. its supposed to rain sometimes all arund year
06:09 AM XXCoder: but its been quite a while since last "normal" summers here
06:10 AM XXCoder: I remember old days bicycling in warm rain outside but havent happened for over a decade
06:18 AM * jthornton needs to build a Fasenfräsmaschine
06:20 AM IchGucksLive: jthornton: you are writh here
06:20 AM IchGucksLive: what size
06:21 AM jthornton: like the one syyl built
06:21 AM IchGucksLive: what budget
06:21 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8pLEfKZy4w
06:22 AM jthornton: haven't worked out a budget yet
06:23 AM IchGucksLive: im off later needs to get some mills mounted together as parts arived within the last 5min
06:23 AM IchGucksLive: http://tv-profi-gmbh.de/masch_baumh_k.jpg
06:24 AM IchGucksLive: 24more to do
06:24 AM jthornton: wow a room full of routersw
06:25 AM IchGucksLive: i need to find a place to put all 24 in one room
06:25 AM IchGucksLive: the building basement is to tiny
06:26 AM IchGucksLive: and most are placed in school as 5-6 are mounted
06:26 AM IchGucksLive: if the first is in school the parts are flowinfg in quick
06:26 AM IchGucksLive: as they see the effect on students
06:27 AM IchGucksLive: the new school got a budget of 8000 euros for 24 routers running
06:28 AM IchGucksLive: as prices fall i can build on 240euros eatch "hommade" school drills all
06:28 AM IchGucksLive: including speed control
06:29 AM jthornton: hmm I'm not finding the $50 kress spindle lol
06:29 AM IchGucksLive: i use 18¼ proxxon
06:30 AM IchGucksLive: USD
06:30 AM IchGucksLive: later
11:18 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:30 AM likevinyl is now known as FinkPloyd
11:31 AM FinkPloyd is now known as WanoMar
11:33 AM IchGucksLive: gloops ß
11:59 AM gloops: anyone interested in machines should move to the south coast of england https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tauco-drill-press-and-vice/112630372272?
12:00 PM archivist: a long way to go for anteeeeek
12:00 PM gloops: solid drill there
12:01 PM archivist: including a zip curve to break it pre drilled for you
12:03 PM gloops: you could hit that table with a sledgehammer
12:03 PM archivist: look for old Pollard or Jones and Shipman
12:03 PM gloops: theres a nice walker turner near me, fairly basic though
12:04 PM gloops: theres a nice small precision drill near you
12:05 PM gloops: in fact that one ended - 16 speed with dovetail slide
12:06 PM archivist: I have a floor standing one and a high speed pollard and a bit of chinesium for rough
12:06 PM hazzy: gloops: That's a nice little drill press, shame somebody line drilled the table
12:07 PM gloops: pretty typical for one that age hazzy i suppose
12:07 PM hazzy: Yea, would not be hard to plug those holes i guess
12:08 PM archivist: 18k rpm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corona-Pollard-9-Fx-Drill/282726520850
12:08 PM gloops: for that money anyway not a massive issue - i guess that drill has had some hammer though
12:08 PM archivist: never see the 9fx line drilled
12:09 PM archivist: for luxury get an old Fobco
12:10 PM gloops: 18000 rpm - whats that good for?
12:10 PM gloops: a lot of these old tools reach an age and value where using them carelessly doesnt matter
12:11 PM archivist: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOBCO-STAR-BENCH-TOP-PEDESTAL-DRILL/332436542481
12:11 PM archivist: clock/watchmakers need high rpm
12:11 PM gloops: maybe used in some small wrought iron railing place, so long as it starts and drills they dont care
12:12 PM archivist: Fobco were made 10 miles from me in Swadlincote
12:13 PM gloops: meddings are another renowned drill
12:14 PM gloops: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEDDINGS-BENCH-DRILL-MODEL-L2-B-1PH/162714735753?
12:14 PM Contract_Pilot: Sup.
12:15 PM gloops: howdy
12:15 PM Contract_Pilot: Bored.
12:15 PM gloops: just window shopping
12:15 PM Contract_Pilot: e-bay been show.
12:15 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, my brain is hurting.
12:19 PM Contract_Pilot: Not sure if i wantto try these lenovo M70E PC's for the CNC
12:57 PM DaViruz: i've used a m70e for a linuxcnc machine
01:01 PM DaViruz: no sorry, lenovo s500
01:04 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, just wondering seems the G41 chipsets get decent latency
01:11 PM pcw_mesa: The equivalent HP PCs seem to work fine (DC7800.DC7900)
01:15 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, I am using a mesa card
01:15 PM Contract_Pilot: but just 60.00 or less price tagh
01:16 PM Contract_Pilot: Need to trade off thiss 7i76 for a 5I25 or a 6I25
01:17 PM Contract_Pilot: Anyone need a 7I76 or 7I77 they are still unused scrapped thir projects.
01:46 PM {HD}: Why can't I find 2% lanthanated 2mm tig tungstens on ebay!?
01:48 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
01:54 PM gloops: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Lanthanated-WL20-Sky-Blue-TIG-Welding-Tungsten-Electrodes-3-2mm-x-150mm-10PK/131188669913?
01:55 PM Tom_itx: imagine that
01:58 PM {HD}: Yep, no 2mm...
02:00 PM Tom_itx: you can't use 2.4mm?
02:00 PM gloops_: loads of 2mm
02:03 PM JT-Shop: Contract_Pilot: you might put them on the forum or mailing list
02:04 PM Contract_Pilot: I got them on the forum

02:07 PM gloops_: facebook group DIY CNC machines
02:08 PM Contract_Pilot: Would love to get ahold of a copy of path pilot 2.0
02:12 PM gloops_: under the counter copy?
02:16 PM {HD}: my tig collets have a 2 and my collet bodies have a 2.4 or 3.2 stamped into them.
02:24 PM Contract_Pilot: I already have a purchased copy ov 1.X
02:26 PM Contract_Pilot: HD My Tig Diversion 180 http://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Welders.jpg
02:28 PM Contract_Pilot: Already on the FB group also
02:28 PM {HD}: Contract_Pilot: Nice looking setup! I don't have a cart for my tig yet. I have HF cart for my mig already...
02:28 PM {HD}: Contract_Pilot: What filler metal should I get for my tig? I am just welding mild steel sheet and plate.
02:28 PM {HD}: and tube I guess.
02:28 PM {HD}: for my o/a setup I just used rg-45 and had good results.
02:29 PM Contract_Pilot: Depends on the steel i belive ER70
02:29 PM {HD}: Contract_Pilot: Yea, I have narrowed it down to er70 now I am looking at s-6 vs s-3 and all the other types.
02:35 PM Contract_Pilot: http://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/PSU-48V.jpg
02:39 PM {HD}: ? whats in the upper left corner? That looks like a magazine
02:41 PM gloops_: nah, 1980s cordless phone
02:45 PM hazzy: gloops_: lol
02:53 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, AK Mags
02:55 PM gloops_: thats actually given me inspiration for my gantry uprights
03:00 PM Contract_Pilot: how to bypass craigslist image filters

03:00 PM Contract_Pilot: Use actual Magazines.... hahaha
03:01 PM Contract_Pilot: Catches people attention.
03:01 PM hazzy: hahahahahaha
03:02 PM Contract_Pilot: I quit drinking i quit smoking = bored.
03:03 PM hazzy: Don't expect to see that king of add in Portland, gives me hope :D
03:05 PM gloops_: well you know what they say, if you dont drink and you dont smoke, you dont live longer, it just seems like it
03:24 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, I am always posting arms related items
03:25 PM Deejay: arms and legs
03:26 PM jelly-home is now known as jelly
03:26 PM Contract_Pilot: hahah
03:27 PM Contract_Pilot: https://post.craigslist.org/manage/6374282567
03:59 PM Deejay: gn8
04:00 PM XXCoder: Contract_Pilot: its gonbe
04:01 PM XXCoder: also its MANAGE link which means it was yours lolk
04:02 PM Contract_Pilot: ohhh
04:02 PM Contract_Pilot: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/for/d/amdparts-kit-with-80-flat/6374282567.html
04:03 PM XXCoder: ak parts?
04:03 PM XXCoder: as in ak-15?
04:04 PM XXCoder: I probably misremembered that model name
04:26 PM JT-Shop: you may be thinking of an AR-15
04:26 PM JT-Shop: AK-47 is the ruskie one
04:27 PM XXCoder: ahh ok
04:28 PM XXCoder: wow. just wow
04:28 PM XXCoder: just read weird text convro between woman and man who was interested on dating her
04:28 PM XXCoder: man asked if lady had sex with black guy before
04:28 PM XXCoder: she said she did long while ago, turns out man wont date any lady who had sex with black guy
04:28 PM JT-Shop: lol I ask for a quote on a drum magnet and get one for a drawer magnet for $10k and he quoted 2 lol
04:29 PM XXCoder: she called him racist
04:29 PM XXCoder: he said hes not racist, he owns color tv...
04:29 PM XXCoder: wtf..
04:30 PM JT-Shop: lol
04:31 PM MarcelineVQ: yeah, relationships are complicated aren't they
04:32 PM XXCoder: expecially if you own a color tv
04:33 PM Contract_Pilot: AK-47
04:34 PM Contract_Pilot: Well not going ot be able to order a mesa card today.
04:34 PM JT-Shop: why not?
04:34 PM XXCoder: yeah, I wouldnt be able to afford one after buying an ak-47 lol
04:36 PM Contract_Pilot: Need to get funds in to pay pal
04:36 PM Contract_Pilot: only cc i have is the pp debit card...
04:36 PM JT-Shop: that makes sense
04:36 PM Contract_Pilot: I dont like using banks
04:37 PM Contract_Pilot: Unless i really have to.
04:37 PM XXCoder: lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beosXMoP0OY watch till end of video
04:38 PM Contract_Pilot: http://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/IMG_5295-e1506751316417-768x1024.jpg
04:38 PM hazzy: Contract_Pilot: Nice!
04:38 PM JT-Shop: now to pay my propane bill I have to go online to print it out... the driver can't print them anymore
04:39 PM Contract_Pilot: I have to get propane also.
04:40 PM gloops_: sounds..rural
04:40 PM Contract_Pilot: for my BBQ
04:40 PM gloops_: oh lol
04:40 PM Contract_Pilot: Used to have to get iot to heat the home when i lived in ND but they just filled the large tank in the back yard
04:41 PM XXCoder: per room electric heat here heh
04:41 PM gloops_: yeah still some places here where the pipes dont reach
04:42 PM gloops_: stupid decision this country made to ban coal
04:42 PM XXCoder: ban coal?
04:42 PM gloops_: smokeless zone - you cant burn coal here
04:43 PM XXCoder: its good decision, it really affects air quality
04:43 PM XXCoder: besides coal is on its way out, even if regulations is all removed
04:43 PM gloops_: you cant beat a good coal fire
04:43 PM XXCoder: i never used coal fire besides cooking
04:44 PM jym: gloops_: good tire fire?
04:44 PM XXCoder: mesgium fire ;)
04:44 PM gloops_: makes your eyes sting
04:44 PM jym: XXCoder: you donating the magnesium?
04:44 PM XXCoder: sorry dont have vw engine anymore lol
04:45 PM jym: I like the cement factory that's fully powered by burning tires.
04:45 PM jym: XXCoder: awwwww =(
04:46 PM gloops_: well, not that we are leaving the EU we might burn coal again, i hope so anyway
04:46 PM syyl: jthornton - best thing i ever made ;)
04:46 PM gloops_: not = now
04:46 PM XXCoder: yay, brown air!
04:46 PM XXCoder: air that you can slice and dice
04:46 PM syyl: it converts electrical power in terrible noise
04:47 PM syyl: and nice chamfers
04:47 PM gloops_: its how we like it XXCoder
04:47 PM XXCoder: not me
04:48 PM gloops_: every house over 30 years old here has chimneys, and none of them smoke
04:48 PM gloops_: it just isnt us
04:48 PM Contract_Pilot: I need to clean up and head out.... need food!
04:49 PM jym: Cement factory burns tires.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsqtMRcKxmg
04:49 PM Contract_Pilot: Also need to get the Tormach chip pan sealed up. http://www.stevenrhine.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/857F678A-68F7-4296-BC01-2D1BEEFCED3E-1024x768.jpeg
04:50 PM hazzy: Contract_Pilot: My Uncle is having fun today, I gather you might be interested: https://youtu.be/ujosqyQUJss
04:50 PM Contract_Pilot: So much stuff to dooo...
04:51 PM Contract_Pilot: Cool.
04:54 PM gloops_: burning tyres without smoke - clever stuff
04:54 PM gloops_: i think that is the future for coal - underground gasification
05:03 PM Tom_itx: crematoriums should be converted to power plants too
05:07 PM andypugh: That’s one of the best £22 I have ever spent: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301966004104
05:07 PM andypugh: Hot air rework station, works a treat!
05:08 PM Tom_itx: yep if you need one they're hard to beat
05:09 PM andypugh: At £22 I don’t think you even need ot need one very badly.
05:11 PM Tom_itx: i've heard of guys putting foil around stuff they don't want removed
05:11 PM Tom_itx: unless you have a small enough tip for it
05:14 PM pcw_mesa: foil and sticky paper labels can be used as insulation to protect easily melted parts also
05:19 PM gene83: hello all
05:21 PM gene83: anybody here
05:21 PM gene83: anybody here?
05:21 PM XXCoder: nope sorry
05:21 PM gene83: How about mach users?
05:22 PM andypugh: Hi Gene
05:22 PM gene83: Hi Andy
05:23 PM gene83: got one of those $4.00 ebay bobs intended for a mach system.
05:23 PM gloops_: having problems gene83?
05:24 PM gene83: If I gound the connector next to the inputs, and feed the inputs with a small R to turn the moc's on, what value of resistor is close enough for the girls we go with?
05:24 PM gene83: s/b ground
05:26 PM gene83: What I apparently need to do is turn the moc on, forever and short it out with my switch to turn it off I think.
05:27 PM andypugh: If they are optos I usually try to feed them 10mA
05:28 PM gene83: with the drop across the opto at around 1.2 volts, then 3.8 volts would need a 390 to get 9 mills, right?
05:29 PM andypugh: You tell me, I am not any sort of electronics expert
05:30 PM gloops_: Ichs may know, or archivist, but theyll be in bed now
05:31 PM gene83: that would be 0.00974358974358974359 amps according to kcalc. I'll go see what I can round up thats in that general ball park.
05:32 PM gene83: thanks.
05:32 PM gene83: back later
05:32 PM hazzy: Yes, gene, 390 ohms looks right if you want 9mA
05:34 PM andypugh: 47 would probably work too.
05:34 PM andypugh: 470, I mean
05:44 PM Tom_itx: http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz
05:44 PM Tom_itx: how easy could it be
05:54 PM hazzy: As easy as moving the decimal place, easier than typing :P R = 3.8 V / .010 A = 380 ohm
06:04 PM gene83: 47 ohms? That would be close to 100 milliamps, and would probably clear the led in the moc in 50 millisecs or so.
06:06 PM hazzy: Andy meant 470 ohms
06:07 PM gene83: Anyway, it looks as if that big bag of 1/4 watt r's I got from the shack years ago, must have walked off at the same time about a 3 lb coffee can of 6800 u-fs at 75 volts left, about early this spring when I left the garage door open while out grocery shiopping.
06:08 PM gene83: The r's were about two bucks worth, but those caps were about a tenner each when purchased a decade back.
06:09 PM gene83: Time to hit fleabay and stock up again.
06:10 PM gene83: Thanks Andy, later.
06:31 PM pfred1: I'm on the RTAI mailing list and it just blew up over there Open Sores all over the place!
06:31 PM pfred1: it don't look good for the future of the project, that's for sure
06:39 PM andypugh: Oh dear.
06:39 PM andypugh: But I don’t think we need them any more, preempt-rt is giving good results here (better on this PC than I ever saw on different PCs with RTAI in fact)
06:40 PM pfred1: that's good because the way it sounds RTAI has big problems
06:40 PM pfred1: they don't evne have their code on a public server right now
06:40 PM pfred1: because of the whole deal they got going on
06:41 PM pfred1: apparently they're not attributing and crediting some authors
06:41 PM pfred1: which is causing a GPL spat
06:41 PM pfred1: I only just found out about it reading the mailing list
06:42 PM pfred1: but it is really heating up now
06:42 PM pfred1: let me open up the last one here
06:43 PM pfred1: Rtai Digest, Vol 119, Issue 2
06:43 PM pfred1: read that one
06:44 PM pfred1: this one guy Alec Ari is tripping out
07:12 PM CaptHindsight: nah just run of the mill arrogance
07:12 PM andypugh: I think Alec is one of us, and was at the Wichita LinuxCNC fest
07:12 PM pfred1: he could be
07:12 PM andypugh: (But I might be wrong, names are not my forte)
07:13 PM CaptHindsight: no he stayed home
07:13 PM pfred1: the name sounds familiar to me I've heard it before
07:13 PM MarcelineVQ: he's certainly involved https://github.com/NTULINUX/RTAI
07:13 PM MarcelineVQ: those'd be his repos afaict
07:13 PM pfred1: he says it is not him causing the problem but he's having the same problem
07:13 PM CaptHindsight: yeah he wrote most of the RTAI updates the past several years
07:14 PM pfred1: in any event RTAI has been on its way out for a long time now
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: Paoplo just took it all and never game him credit for any of the cleanups or all the new code is all..
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: so he stopped working on RTAI
07:14 PM pfred1: rocky roads tend to get bumpier over time
07:16 PM CaptHindsight: Paoplo/Paolo
07:16 PM MarcelineVQ: :>
07:16 PM pfred1: official RTAI was on cvs
07:16 PM pfred1: there are gitted forks of it
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: Alec is down the hall from me.
07:21 PM Roguish: hey all. any suggestions for a graphics card for Lcnc, either PCIEx1 or PCIEx16 ? easy to setup....in linux.
07:21 PM andypugh: I have only ever used on-board video, and it’s always been fine.
07:22 PM pfred1: yeah on board should be OK
07:22 PM Roguish: i'ld like to try a 2nd monitor.
07:22 PM Roguish: otherwise I agree with onboard.
07:24 PM pfred1: I had trouble with an ATI card once
07:25 PM pfred1: and i think an AMD?
07:25 PM pfred1: like the live CD wouldn't evne run
07:25 PM CaptHindsight: pfred1: we have been keeping RTAI alive for our projects...
07:25 PM CaptHindsight: Alec just got tired of dealing with Paolo
07:27 PM CaptHindsight: true, RTAI would have died 3-4 years ago if we didn't keep it going
07:40 PM CaptHindsight: pfred1: was it an Ubuntu Live CD?
07:44 PM CaptHindsight: Apple Wireless Magic Trackpad https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XLYAWC/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
07:45 PM CaptHindsight: are there any wired trackpads that are well made like this one^^?
07:56 PM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
08:08 PM evilroot: Anybody need a really powerful spindle controller?
08:08 PM evilroot: AKA 5.5kW
08:08 PM pfred1: too buku
08:12 PM andypugh: CaptHindsight: I think that Wacom are the big name in that sort of thing: https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-digital-graphics-drawing-painting/dp/B010LHRFYU/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1510366300&sr=1-4&keywords=wacom&dpID=41uelY1nzzL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
08:12 PM evilroot: buku?
08:15 PM pfred1: FMJ quote
08:16 PM pfred1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AkB5qi1r4Q
08:17 PM evilroot: Oh haha
08:17 PM pfred1: soul brother too buku!
08:19 PM evilroot: its a 3-phase AC driver
08:19 PM evilroot: Unfortunately my office doesn't have 3-phase :-/
08:20 PM evilroot: Works with LinuxCNC (ModBus)
10:29 PM R2E4: botta-boom!
10:30 PM R2E4: anyone up for a small little discussion on servo tuning?
10:48 PM Vitran: I am! but I need help
10:48 PM Vitran: well, it seems more like I need help finding a servo that actually works
10:49 PM Vitran: Made a new discovery today! Turns out my DC servo drive I was hoping to get is kicking the bucket!
10:50 PM Vitran: I had removed a PLC that had produced a tachometer signal for the DC servo boards
10:50 PM Vitran: now it seems like it used a combination of encoders and a hall sensor to produce the tachometer signal
10:51 PM Vitran: I got a quote from a local motor supplier for a servo and drive, but I then found the same servo and drive on AliExpress for way less
10:51 PM Vitran: So I am thinking new servo drives are the way to go
10:52 PM R2E4: DC servos?
10:53 PM R2E4: max voltage?
10:53 PM Vitran: that is waht I had
10:53 PM Vitran: They were 179VDC
10:53 PM Vitran: 2.4 Nm
10:53 PM Vitran: 3k rpm
10:53 PM Vitran: But I found these bad boys: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-New-ASD-B2-1021-B-ECMA-C21010RS-Delta-AC-Servo-Kits-220v-1kw-3-18NM/32383615926.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.16.5Xk3SF&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10065_10151_10130_10068_10344_10345_10547_10342_10343_10340_10341_10548_10541_10139_10307_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10539_10537_10536_10059_10534_10533_100031_5740020_10103_10102_5670015_10142_10107
10:53 PM R2E4: use Viper200, if you have Step/dir
10:54 PM Vitran: It is a DC brushed servo
10:54 PM Vitran: not step/dir
10:55 PM R2E4: 555 an axis
10:55 PM Vitran: I have been caught off guard a few times now calling a DC brushed servo motor a DC servo and people thinking it is a stepper motor
10:55 PM Vitran: I am rebuilding a hardinge superslant
10:55 PM R2E4: Yeah, I like AC servos.
10:55 PM Vitran: http://www.hhrobertsmachinery.com/used-cnc-lathes/Hardinge-SB3GN-super-slant-lathe.jpg
10:56 PM R2E4: what did you pick that up for?
10:56 PM Vitran: $3k
10:56 PM Vitran: with a 30kva 600v to 240v transformer
10:56 PM R2E4: cool.... I need to get a slant bed lathe.
10:57 PM R2E4: spindle good?
10:57 PM Vitran: Spindle is fine
10:57 PM Vitran: The PLC went dead
10:57 PM Vitran: I fought the PLC for about half a year online and off
10:57 PM R2E4: great candidate.....
10:57 PM Vitran: Could not get it out of E-Stop
10:58 PM Vitran: It was at my old company. They had to make room and I had space to take it
10:58 PM Vitran: It was working when it left
10:58 PM R2E4: you using mesa cards?
10:58 PM Vitran: 7i77 and 7i64
10:59 PM Vitran: the machine uses sinking instead of sourcing, so the 7i64 does the sinking
10:59 PM Vitran: It also has all the wires on DB25
10:59 PM Vitran: so I got a bunch of breakout boards and wired up ~300 wires
10:59 PM R2E4: 7i64 24in/24out?
11:00 PM Vitran: I got the hydraulics, tool changer, breaks, coolant working
11:00 PM Vitran: just not the servos
11:00 PM R2E4: whats wrong with the drives?
11:00 PM Vitran: The Hardinge superslant has gone through a few variations of wiring
11:01 PM Vitran: the first variation used tachometers on the DC servo motors
11:01 PM Vitran: these tachometers fed directly into the servo drive
11:01 PM Vitran: I had the wiring diagrams for that version
11:01 PM Vitran: The version I have, which is a slightly different wiring diagram, has the PLC produce a tachometer signal for the servo drives
11:02 PM Vitran: However, it used a combination of an encoder and a hall sensor to produce the desirable voltage signal to the servo drive
11:02 PM R2E4: ah, that sucks
11:02 PM Vitran: I would like to use two of the 7i77 analog output signals to produce the tachometer signal to control the servo drive, but it seems more and more a deeper hole to jump down
11:03 PM Vitran: as the encoder is not mounted to the motor directly
11:03 PM R2E4: how is it mounted then?
11:04 PM Vitran: It is mounted directly to the ball screw
11:04 PM Vitran: So if I want to tune the motor, I have to spin the ball screw
11:04 PM R2E4: so change the encoder on the motor and get a new drive for them.
11:04 PM Vitran: If I am spending $ for getting a DC motor, why not just get an AC motor with a built in encoder and all
11:05 PM R2E4: yeah, chineese ones arent expensive.
11:05 PM Vitran: These are Delta
11:05 PM Vitran: I have been suggested Delta a few times and have used them in the past
11:05 PM R2E4: Heres a hint thou select a productgh. Make sure to get a readable manual before you
11:05 PM Vitran: I have not had an issue with them yet
11:06 PM Vitran: I have the manual from Delta. Also their tech support is really good
11:07 PM R2E4: I did a retrofit with chineese drives and ac servos with poorly translated manuals. IT was a biotch
11:08 PM R2E4: Cause the drives were not tuned to the servo's, they had internal pid, aned when I opend it up to linuxcnc to close the loop.....WOW
11:08 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
11:08 PM R2E4: HAd to fuddle with a boatload of parameter to get it to work properly before connecting to linuxcnc
11:09 PM R2E4: HEy Tom
11:09 PM R2E4: but I heard Delta stuff is soled.
11:09 PM R2E4: solid
11:09 PM Tom_L: what's up?
11:09 PM Vitran: As I mentioned, I have a 7i77. The spindle drive uses a +-10VDC, and so does the delta drive
11:09 PM R2E4: hey you have CACR yaskawa drives on you machoo?
11:10 PM R2E4: Vitran: yeah mesa stuff just works....
11:11 PM R2E4: When it doesnt, it is usally me the problem.
11:11 PM Vitran: I made a problem
11:11 PM Vitran: with my mesa card
11:11 PM Vitran: but it was my problem
11:11 PM Vitran: When I first wired the PLC, I made everything sourcing
11:11 PM Vitran: and got the 7i64 as an extra input card
11:11 PM Vitran: Then I found it was sinking and did a whole overhaul of every wire
11:12 PM R2E4: ouch.....
11:12 PM Vitran: Rewired the whole board and went, 'hey, there is no 5v on the whole plc. Why don't I get rid of my 12/5VDC power supply as it has only 1A at 12V
11:12 PM R2E4: I didnt know it but you can get the cards sincing or sourcing..... I think I read that.
11:13 PM R2E4: you need your 5v supply
11:13 PM Vitran: 'nothing on the whole machine seems to use 5V except for the encoder. But the mesa card makes the 5v'
11:13 PM Vitran: And I put 24V into the input for the 7i77 and 7i64
11:13 PM R2E4: Your using the oc 5v supply?
11:14 PM Vitran: I fried both boards and the one encoder that was connected
11:14 PM R2E4: oh shit....
11:14 PM Vitran: I talked to PCW, shipped it back. He inspected the boards, gave me a good 7i77 with a burned out led
11:15 PM Vitran: then I found out that the 7i64 was not outputting, the board he had inspected and shipped back
11:15 PM Vitran: So I ordered a new 7i64 and got it back together
11:15 PM Vitran: Did a bunch of powering up, getting the breaks and locks and enables running
11:15 PM Vitran: Then on Tuesday I tried to move the servos
11:15 PM Vitran: and they flew really fast
11:16 PM Vitran: Turns out servo drives need feedback
11:16 PM Vitran: and since Tuesday, I have been trying to figure out how to generate a tachometer signal. But I think I cant as it needs the hall sensor signal as well as the encoder and it would need to be tuned in the machine
11:18 PM Vitran: That is my brief story of the last few weeknights
11:18 PM R2E4: The drives are expecting a tach signal?
11:18 PM Vitran: yeah
11:18 PM Vitran: 7V/1000rpm
11:19 PM R2E4: Where were they getting it before?
11:19 PM Vitran: The old PLC was producing it
11:19 PM Vitran: somehow
11:19 PM Vitran: from the encoder and hall sensor
11:19 PM Contract_Pilot: Sup...
11:19 PM Vitran: I could try to get that to work but it would be a risky path I think
11:20 PM Vitran: Hey Pilot.
11:20 PM R2E4: Ah right.... You still have the hall sensor and encoder, so should be able to get it done in linuxcnc....
11:20 PM R2E4: yeah....
11:20 PM Vitran: I am told it is possible, but slow
11:20 PM R2E4: So whats your spindle running on. AC servo also?
11:21 PM Vitran: Spindle is 4kW DC servo
11:21 PM Vitran: with a tachometer built in
11:22 PM R2E4: +-10?
11:22 PM Vitran: Yep
11:22 PM R2E4: with incremental out to go to linuxcnc?
11:23 PM Vitran: There is no output from the servo drive
11:23 PM Vitran: there is an encoder on the drive that goes directly to LinuxCNC
11:24 PM Vitran: *encoder on the spindle
11:24 PM R2E4: thats cool, that should work put good.
11:25 PM R2E4: Why are you using the 7i64.... just curious.
11:25 PM Vitran: Not sure....
11:25 PM Vitran: I was looking through for more inputs
11:25 PM Vitran: and thought it looked cool
11:25 PM Vitran: and it has helped as a result too
11:25 PM Vitran: maybe another 7i77 would have been better
11:26 PM R2E4: 7i84 32 in 16 out
11:26 PM Vitran: but the sinking option has helped
11:26 PM Contract_Pilot: I have a 7I77 i am not ever going to use.
11:26 PM R2E4: send it my way
11:26 PM R2E4: Ill use it....
11:26 PM Vitran: I got a 7i64 that is 24 inputs only
11:27 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, i am trying to unload it so I can get my other bob
11:27 PM R2E4: 7i64 has 24 outs also.
11:27 PM Contract_Pilot: and another 5I25 or 6I25
11:27 PM R2E4: what do you want for the 7i77?
11:28 PM Vitran: R2E4: Not mine! the outputs are dead
11:28 PM Contract_Pilot: R2E4 on feebay asking 180 but will take less
11:29 PM Contract_Pilot: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/54-user-exchange/33534-mesa-cards-7i76-7i77-sale-or-barter-for-5i25-6i25#101387
11:30 PM R2E4: I need to place another order to JT. Need a 5i25/7i77 7i84, 2-7071 7i74 and 7i70 for another big Point to point router.
11:30 PM R2E4: Contract_Pilot: you in Vancouver?
11:30 PM R2E4: I am in Montreal
11:30 PM Contract_Pilot: Vancouver, WA
11:31 PM Vitran: Hamilton ON
11:31 PM Contract_Pilot: 200 miles south of the BC Vancouver
11:32 PM Contract_Pilot: I hate banks closed today would not add money and PP balance is low
11:32 PM Contract_Pilot: Need to offload some of this CNC stuff i am not using
11:33 PM R2E4: 7i77n work?
11:34 PM R2E4: Vitran: Motiontek is in Toronto area I think. They have delta servos if I remember correctly.
11:34 PM Contract_Pilot: https://www.ebay.com/sch/contract_pilot/m.html
11:35 PM Contract_Pilot: Yea, my 7I77 Works
11:35 PM Contract_Pilot: It better never used it
11:36 PM Contract_Pilot: I did power it up thats about it.
11:36 PM Vitran: I got a quote for Delta servos from Motion Canada
11:36 PM Vitran: They gave me a quote for 8.6k for 3 servos and drives
11:37 PM R2E4: ouch
11:37 PM Vitran: *3 delta servos and drives
11:37 PM Vitran: That I am now finding on AliExpress for 600 each
11:37 PM R2E4: 1000w delta ac servo and drives is listed for 3,592 3 axis kit
11:38 PM R2E4: Vitran 1000W?
11:38 PM Vitran: yep
11:39 PM R2E4: damn, Motiontek is getting them for probably 400 a axis and selling them or over 1300 an axis.
11:39 PM R2E4: US that is.
11:40 PM R2E4: We need a Mesa distributor in Canada.
11:40 PM R2E4: JT is good in the states but now they are charging big bucks across the border.
11:41 PM R2E4: I just ordered 550.00 of mesa cards from JT and the postal service charged me 78.00
11:45 PM tiwake: anyone know of a good CMS system for building a website that is not balls?
11:53 PM Vitran: Night
