12:40 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
12:43 AM IchGucksLive: last day of good weathere says the weatherservice
01:01 AM hazzy: IchGucksLive: morning
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
01:01 AM hazzy: its late here, gn8
01:05 AM gloops_: anyone used blenderCAM for stls?
01:05 AM IchGucksLive: no i use heeks
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: you are up to a mega builder
01:06 AM gloops_: the free heeks cnc on the linux repository?
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: best here has been 40mashines in one week
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: but not alone
01:06 AM gloops_: 40 machines a week he must have worked round the clock lol
01:07 AM IchGucksLive: its only 2 parts per axis
01:07 AM IchGucksLive: and only drill no mill
01:08 AM gloops_: well, the mechanical build is not so time consuming if you have everything at hand and use standard components
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: agree
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: also the elctronics if it standard
01:09 AM IchGucksLive: for the education cnc it is a simple tb6560
01:09 AM gloops_: yeah i could do the electronics i have again in a couple of hours - after taking weeks to get it right first time
01:09 AM IchGucksLive: so only one part beside psu
01:09 AM gloops_: but when youve done one - so easy
01:10 AM IchGucksLive: what are you using on the laser tb6600
01:10 AM IchGucksLive: or the bestter 542
01:10 AM gloops_: not really thought about the laser much - for the axis control - same as i have used for router
01:10 AM IchGucksLive: i guess you only go for nema17
01:10 AM gloops_: whats the difference?
01:11 AM IchGucksLive: the speed
01:11 AM gloops_: and what controls the laser itself?
01:11 AM IchGucksLive: the laserdriver
01:12 AM gloops_: so..laser has a driver - hooked up for pulses from an axis pin?
01:12 AM IchGucksLive: no the laseer driver takes 5V blanking
01:12 AM IchGucksLive: so only a pin needed
01:12 AM gloops_: i see, would have to look into that
01:13 AM IchGucksLive: S1
01:13 AM Wolf__: most of the diode laser use pwm for power control
01:13 AM gloops_: can you engrave using a lazer in 3D - like on a 3D carved object?
01:13 AM IchGucksLive: lasers are only for 2D
01:13 AM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/NxyunPr.jpg
01:13 AM IchGucksLive: as 0.05-0,2mm per path
01:14 AM gloops_: i thought so yeah, would have trouble staying in focus i guess
01:14 AM Wolf__: you can sorta 3d, but not with a weak ass laser
01:14 AM Wolf__: right focal length and enough power and you can raster engrave
01:14 AM gloops_: you making that Wolf? thats pretty much the kind of thing im thinking of
01:15 AM Wolf__: made, its fully working
01:15 AM Wolf__: mostly a toy @ only 2w tho
01:15 AM gloops_: excellent
01:15 AM gloops_: is it ok for engraving wood?
01:15 AM Wolf__: test bed mostly, I want to do a 100w co2
01:16 AM IchGucksLive: https://www.ilt.fraunhofer.de/de/presse/pressemitteilungen/pm2017/pressemitteilung-15-03-2017.html
01:16 AM gloops_: thats all i was looking at small laser head, would add some options for decorating wood peices
01:16 AM Wolf__: it will engrave wood
01:16 AM IchGucksLive: with 30W you can do nice fast laser images
01:17 AM Wolf__: 100w you can cut plywood =)
01:17 AM gloops_: well when i say engrave - i mean burn, like pyrography
01:17 AM IchGucksLive: depending on wood but most cooliing you can go 1mm depth
01:17 AM gloops_: see some nice work done with lasers, even detailed photos on wood or acrylic
01:17 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: this will make you a 5W 80usd
01:18 AM gloops_: that would do me lol
01:18 AM Wolf__: I think mine is a 2.5w blue laser, was $80 usd shipped
01:18 AM IchGucksLive: but it will only run about 20min per task
01:18 AM gloops_: but its is just a job on the list atm
01:19 AM IchGucksLive: 5 mashines is not a job on thel ist
01:19 AM IchGucksLive: with simple 2020
01:20 AM gloops_: its time, other stuff to do, you have never done building anyway, soon as you build one thing you got your eye on a better improved version
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: and sbr 12
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: on this the world will simply overrun wurop
01:20 AM Wolf__: mine is super lazy build lol, only hiwin rails and printed parts
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: europa
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: hwin lazy ??
01:21 AM Wolf__: https://i.imgur.com/HsI9RqP.jpg
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: does not go together
01:21 AM Wolf__: no frame
01:21 AM Wolf__: its just screwed to a piece of plywood
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: you shoudt setup green filter shield at least
01:22 AM Wolf__: yeah, I should box it, but really only made it to learn the control software
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: depending on build fun use a 24DVD burner like i do at 5USD Laser engraver
01:22 AM Wolf__: running smoothie board
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: cool shield
01:23 AM gloops_: dvd burner - you mean like the one in a PC?
01:23 AM IchGucksLive: yes
01:24 AM IchGucksLive: i also did the driver myself
01:24 AM gloops_: lol, thats a good idea! is that powerful enough to mark wood?
01:24 AM IchGucksLive: and with a 3d print diode connector i did 3 in line focus
01:25 AM gloops_: well, i havent got a 3d printer..yet haha
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnxBwhehQWE
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: that is mine
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: as you see us dont like it as 90hits per year
01:27 AM IchGucksLive: i can give you the eagle on this
01:29 AM gloops_: thats pretty ingenious
01:29 AM IchGucksLive: http://funofdiy.blogspot.de/2013/10/a-raspberry-pi-controlled-mini-laser.html
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: i go for 5.5V
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: with a meter you pull up the resistor till the mA stalls then you go back 10% and you can run the diode forever
01:32 AM gloops_: i would probably get something designed for it yeah
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: it will hold the max for about 20sec and die
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: RIP
01:33 AM IchGucksLive: i got a box with 20DVD burners for 15USD
01:34 AM gloops_: loads of those around on old PCs, should really collect the old boxes and strip the useful parts
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: go to the local recycling center and ask for the next pc demount station
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: there you get them in mass for 1$ eatch no need to unbox
01:36 AM IchGucksLive: but as you are outside EU
01:36 AM IchGucksLive: go for a 5,5W
01:36 AM IchGucksLive: get more cooling on and do fast engraves
01:36 AM gloops_: well it might be some time away, i will do one though
01:39 AM IchGucksLive: selroc: buona mattina da ROMA ?
01:39 AM gloops_: they sell unsupported rods and bearings here - very cheap, i dunno maybe good up to 600mm, 750
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: at that length you need 16mm
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: better to go sbr12
01:40 AM gloops_: probably yeah, and a bit bigger
01:41 AM IchGucksLive: gloops_: http://www.cnc-discount.de/epages/62924595.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62924595/Categories/12mm_CNC_Set_GRUeN
01:42 AM gloops_: cant go wrong with those
01:42 AM IchGucksLive: its 30 box per rail at 700mm
01:43 AM IchGucksLive: 120 for a full 600x600
01:44 AM IchGucksLive: they are 1k cost in the bay
01:45 AM IchGucksLive: lets say you go lazyl speed at 30m/min
01:45 AM IchGucksLive: on timing belt with a tb6600
01:45 AM IchGucksLive: you are at 400ud max including all
01:45 AM IchGucksLive: 400$
01:45 AM gloops_: nema 17s run that ok?
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: at Nema23
01:46 AM gloops_: yeah
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: wantai set
01:46 AM IchGucksLive: or online-steppers
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: at 36V it is a real good speed
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: you only need 0,2mm step
01:47 AM IchGucksLive: so it is 200/1
01:48 AM gloops_: yeah? would thought you would want higher resolution for engraving work
01:48 AM Wolf__: think about the burn diameter
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: most got 0,3mm
01:49 AM gloops_: hmm, what kind of diamters are we talking?
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: low cost lasers
01:49 AM IchGucksLive: the DVD has 0,08mm
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: if you go low speed it reatchse 0,2 fine line
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: with the 150mW
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: i think with low focus the 5,5W can do 1m
01:50 AM IchGucksLive: 1mm ;-)
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: thick black line
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: AND ofcause all this CAN burn YOUR shop
01:52 AM IchGucksLive: im off timeline in for todays corn harvest
01:52 AM Wolf__: and blind you quickly
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: thats why germnans need VBG41 advice at 100mW +
01:53 AM IchGucksLive: 160acre to go today
01:54 AM IchGucksLive: im closing getting 9tablets ready for tractor take off ;-)
02:00 AM Deejay: moin
02:53 AM Loetmichel: *yaaaawn*... already 1,5 hours at work, coworker still missing... normally he arrived by now and brought a coffe for me down from the office floor kitchen... MAAAN am i getting lazy these days ;)
02:54 AM MrHindsight: off for some zzz's here
02:54 AM MrHindsight: europe gets up too early
02:55 AM archivist: WAKE UP
02:55 AM MrHindsight: zzzz zzz zzz
02:56 AM archivist: MrHindsight, love this freenode message * MrHindsight has quit (Read error: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number)
05:03 AM jthornton: morning
05:05 AM archivist: someone is up, early or late!
05:05 AM andypugh: JT-Shop: Chiicken-lovers unite: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/justice-for-the-roses-animals#/
05:06 AM andypugh: Late
05:06 AM andypugh: 0235 local time
05:06 AM andypugh: Fly home tomorrow
05:06 AM archivist: about morning coffee time here
05:08 AM archivist: and thinking will I kill something with a renishaw ph10T head with a phc9 controller :)
05:08 AM andypugh: Actually, noting that, and that I have to be at work and compos-mentis to drive cars in 5 hours… Bye….
05:09 AM jthornton: poor chickens
05:10 AM andypugh: Normal service will be resumed late saturday. It’s a killer of a flight and connection. 11pm flight on friday from Las Vegas, arrive 2100 UK time on saturday.
05:11 AM andypugh: jthornton: If it’s real I am tempted to fund it, but I can’t tell if it is true.
05:12 AM jthornton: yea hard to tell if it is a real thing or just playing off the ritual
05:12 AM andypugh: Seems barbaric
05:12 AM jthornton: I used to fly back and forth to west africa once a month for 3 years... damn long flights
05:14 AM andypugh: Anyway, I should sleep. I left a car at the top of the mountain (or a cold altitude start) so if I miss the team at breakfast I stand a fair chance of being stranded car-less at the hotel.
05:14 AM jthornton: see you later
07:31 AM Loetmichel: *BOOOARPSSS* tested a new pizza delivery service today for lunch at the company... MAAAN they DO mean it when you say "double cheeese"... there was at LEAS half a pound of gouda on the 36cm pizza... $me is only a thin mint short of exploding now ;)
07:46 AM jdh: so, if anyone heard my tig HF start problems yesterday... it seems to be solved by grounding the ceramic TIG cup. Which makes no sense to me, but is very repeatable.
07:47 AM archivist: dirty and become conductive?
07:47 AM Loetmichel: jdh: some ceramics are conductive, but in case of a tig nozzle i would go with archivists explanation
07:48 AM Loetmichel: or you had a pretty violent arc which managed to sputter deposit a metal film on the inside of the nozzle...
07:48 AM jdh: I went through several brand new ones while troubleshooting
07:48 AM Loetmichel: okay then
07:49 AM jdh: thin copper tape from cup to work makes it 100% reliable. Take it off and it doesn't work.
07:50 AM Loetmichel: hmmm
07:51 AM jdh: just checked some cups. No obvious conductance, but meter is probably not really sufficient check
07:51 AM Loetmichel: look at your cable/hose assembly... maybe the ground wire to the inverter broke somewhere inside?
07:51 AM Loetmichel: HF start is not DC resistance
07:51 AM Loetmichel: some materials can be an RF short while insulating at dc
07:52 AM jdh: two different welders, 3 sets of ground/power cables. 3 gas adapters, 4 tig torch cables, 4 torches & torch bodies, collets, etc.
07:52 AM Loetmichel: no idea then
07:52 AM Loetmichel: hmmm
07:52 AM jdh: I am way beyond caring, but I would really like to know wtf grounding a ceramic cup does
07:53 AM Loetmichel: or one left: check you wall plug for ground contiunity?
07:53 AM jdh: yep. also wired up a different transformer, swapped 480 legs feeding the transformer. Ran grounds everywhere.
07:59 AM Loetmichel: no idea then
10:33 AM Nick-Shop_ is now known as Nick-Shop
11:06 AM slipalong: Hi trying to gmoccapy with a touch screen. Manage to get that working, but need a one screen keyboard as I don't want to have one on the bench, Anyone got a recommendation?
12:00 PM JT-Shop: he didn't stay long...
12:08 PM cradek: onscreen keyboards are terrible. try touchy.
12:19 PM JT-Shop: does touchy have a build in key pad now?
12:29 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:58 PM IchGucksLive: night is falling here in germany
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: im off gn8
02:01 PM SpeedEvil: Has anyone attempted cooling conventional drills by simply injecting coolant down one flute? Clearly the material entry gasket would be fun.
02:06 PM MrHindsight: I just flood the entire area
02:36 PM gloops_: only use an oil can when im drilling
02:37 PM MrHindsight: no drill required
02:40 PM gloops_: how are you going to drill without a drill?
03:08 PM _methods: laser, waterjet, plasma, edm?
03:11 PM gloops_: thats boring, not drilling
03:13 PM _methods: lol
03:14 PM _methods: isn't boring boring
03:14 PM _methods: i dont' bore holes out with a waterjet
03:14 PM _methods: i use a boring bar
03:15 PM gloops_: in the pits round here they used to have to make holes in solid rock for gunpowder charges, no electric, no compressed air, hardly practical with a twist drill bit
03:15 PM _methods: star punches
03:16 PM gloops_: so they had a long heavy bar with a tip on it, and kept dropping it on the rock in the same spot
03:16 PM gloops_: but as i say - boring not drilling
03:16 PM gloops_: s'where the term boring, as in tedious, came from
03:16 PM _methods: cool story bro
03:18 PM gloops_: what is it called - making a hole with a waterjet?
03:18 PM MarcelineVQ: eroding
03:18 PM gloops_: hmm yeah
03:19 PM _methods: drills just erode too
03:19 PM _methods: 1 chip at a time
03:22 PM Tom_L: let the chips fly where they will
03:24 PM _methods: indeed
03:26 PM _methods: going to trumpf factory in ct next week to check out a new fiber laser
03:26 PM _methods: should be fun trip
03:28 PM _methods: http://southernstatesmachinery.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/SSM_TrumpfSeminarBrochure_2017.pdf
03:28 PM _methods: free food
03:28 PM _methods: heheh
03:29 PM gloops_: i dont know much about lasers
03:30 PM _methods: they do a punch and robot demo too it looks like which should be cool
03:30 PM _methods: and i'm curious to see this smartglasses thing
03:31 PM _methods: i'm guessing it's some AR thing to help with operators bending parts at the press brake
03:31 PM _methods: http://www.fabricatingandmetalworking.com/2017/02/augmented-reality-technology-future/
03:31 PM _methods: oh nm its for assisting with maintenance i guess
03:41 PM Daniel is now known as Guest98625
03:42 PM Guest98625: Nabend jemand aus deutschland da der lust hat mir 1-2 fragen zu beantworten ? im bezug auf cnc mechanik ?
03:47 PM Tom_L: ich is but he's not here
03:53 PM Guest98625: Oh ok thanks
03:54 PM Guest98625: dont think translate part names with google works great ^^
03:55 PM Tom_L: nope
03:55 PM Tom_L: register your nick and it won't change to guest either...
03:56 PM Deejay: gn8
03:56 PM gloops_: night
03:57 PM gloops_: i would only want a laser for decorating wood
03:57 PM gloops_: you cant beat wood
03:59 PM Guest98625: one question is " ballscrew " or "Trapezoidal Screw", second they type alltime only vor slow speed, but whats slowspeed dont want start massproduction ^^
04:03 PM gloops_: hmm, well ballscews are more efficient, they have less friction, require less torque
04:03 PM Tom_L: and are probably more accurate
04:03 PM gloops_: yes
04:03 PM Tom_L: but cost more
04:04 PM gloops_: and also run away
04:04 PM Tom_L: depends on your needs
04:05 PM gloops_: i mean a 5mm pitch ballscrew and a 5mm pitch leadscrew are the same speed
04:08 PM jdh: need more power for a leadscrew
04:09 PM gloops_: need brakes for ballscrews at high speed
04:10 PM gloops_: i have been weighing this up for my router, 16mm leadscrews with nuts, 3 off, about £80
04:11 PM gloops_: 1605 ballscrew 1 off, £80
04:12 PM gloops_: the price differential seems a lot, but its a few hours work if the machine is doing paid jobs
05:42 PM hazzy: Hello
05:43 PM hazzy: Spend the afternoon helping a friend retrofit a BP Boss 10 with LCNC, got motion at least :D
05:43 PM hazzy: https://i.imgur.com/0DbyBd0.jpg
05:44 PM Tom_L: nice
05:44 PM Tom_L: those are stepper right?
05:44 PM Tom_L: my friend had a Boss 5
05:44 PM hazzy: No, servos
05:45 PM Tom_L: i was thinking his was stepper
05:45 PM hazzy: Pretty hefty servos at 25A 190V DC
05:45 PM jthornton: does he have a touch screen?
05:45 PM hazzy: Most of the Bosss do have steppers
05:45 PM Tom_L: no conversion.. he just used the original control
05:46 PM MarcelineVQ: Tom_L: this friend? http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/cnc-machining/losing-steps-bp-boss-5-should-convert-servo-334295/
05:46 PM hazzy: jthornton: not yet
05:46 PM Tom_L: i doubt it
05:46 PM MarcelineVQ: hehe
05:46 PM Tom_L: it's long gone now
05:46 PM Tom_L: he had a tracer at the time too
05:48 PM hazzy: This machine was originally paper tape, so LCNC is a big step up!
05:49 PM hazzy: It had been struck by lightening so the boards were all black, but it ran, sorta
05:52 PM hazzy: What was surprising to me was that it had full 3 axis coordinated motion and ridged taping, which seems advanced for this mid 80s?? machine
05:54 PM jthornton: my Anilam 1100m had all but rigid tapping
05:54 PM jthornton: now it does...
05:54 PM jthornton: chicken work is done for the day... auto lights on test in the morning :)
06:28 PM jdh: chickens seem like a lot of work
06:30 PM Guest98625: Ohhh sry didnt though getting answers -_- my fault, thx you three
06:33 PM Guest98625: yeah the price difference is very big im planing a cnc router mostly for wood. hobby first maybe some paid jobs, so you would say it would work fine without ballscrews ?
06:36 PM Guest98625: Stepper motor will be 3,3 Nm holding tourque and 800gf.cm positioning
06:39 PM Loetmichel: Guest98625: ballscrews are not that more expensive than trapezodial
06:39 PM Loetmichel: and MUCH better
06:39 PM Loetmichel: you DONT want metric or imperial threaded rod as drive screws.
06:40 PM Loetmichel: thas a recipe for desaster
06:43 PM Guest98625: so leadscrew what the other both mean are something different ?
06:45 PM Guest98625: the electronic part and rails and all that stuff isnt a problem for me but the drivescrew question is
06:46 PM * Loetmichel just took his convertible to the gas station to buy some ice tea.. (in germany most shops are closed past 21:00) Open of course. That beildered look of the cashier at the station... old open canopy 318i convertible rolling otho the station, stopping in front of the entrance... old fat guy with ray ban aviator sunglasses climbs out at 23:00... and buys a few 2L-packs of ice tea... not
06:46 PM * Loetmichel alcohol ;)
06:47 PM Loetmichel: it IS quite warm outside. nice late summer here in germany.
06:51 PM Guest98625: its indeed
06:51 PM Guest98625: 18,2 celsius actually
08:08 PM MrHindsight: 5V / 3 ohms = 1.666 Amps
08:40 PM * evilroot yawns
10:57 PM pcw_home: Vitran: this probably just means you have the 5I25 /7I77 cable power jumpers wrong
10:59 PM pcw_home: 5I25 W2 down and 7I77 W5 LEFT means that the 7I77 external power is shorted to ground
10:59 PM pcw_home: 5I25 W2 up and 7I77 W5 left means that the external 7I77 5V tries to power the PC
11:00 PM pcw_home: if you have external 5V power on the 7I77, W5 must be in the right hand position (and 5I25 W2 down)
11:04 PM pcw_home: There is no issue of using the second 5I25 port, there is an issue if you have more that one sserial port
11:04 PM pcw_home: (which is uncommon) In that case there was a bug if you didn't use port0 but only port1
11:04 PM pcw_home: (note ports _ not_ channels)
11:05 PM cncnoob: Hey guys, anyone know why the stepper config axis test utility has a max velocity of 1.5 inches per sec?
11:43 PM gloops_: Guest98625 how big is your machine going to be?
11:44 PM gloops_: if you can get cheap leadscrews and you are itching to get building use them, they will work fine, you will cut accurately and maybe a little more slowly, with 3nm motors wont be any problem
11:46 PM gloops_: you dont want a ballscrew on the z anyway, leadscrews are self locking, ballscrews are not
11:54 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
