12:08 AM CaptHindsight: done working tonight
12:10 AM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: did you get your machine all sorted out?
12:18 AM Tom_L: yeah i think so
12:39 AM HighInBC: ugh it is for windows!
12:39 AM HighInBC: f dat
12:45 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/sep/01/europe-unveils-worlds-most-powerful-x-ray-laser
12:46 AM CaptHindsight: mounted on a shark
12:46 AM HighInBC: shark based lasers made all other forms of lasers obsolete
01:09 AM gloops: people talk about linuxcnc being hard to install, if you watch the mach3 forums there are no end of problems getting mach 3 running, most commonly not communicating with parallel port, i had the same, wasted days
01:11 AM gloops: it has a useful feature for scale, you input a measurement, say 20 inches, run it, then take the actual measurement of distance travelled and input that - scale automatically calculated
01:15 AM HighInBC: that is some pretty simple math
01:15 AM HighInBC: but useful to not have to do yourself
01:16 AM gloops: convenient yes
01:16 AM gloops: but as i have said with opponents of linux, you arent learning anything about your machine or system
01:20 AM gloops: so you get people who buy a cnc machine, and are running it without knowing how its calibrated, what the pitch of their screws is, what pitch even represents
01:24 AM IchGucksLive: morning from Germany
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: gloops: 70% + will not know there mashine properties
01:28 AM gloops: surely that must come back to them at some point Ich
01:28 AM gloops: i mean there is a limit to what you can do on that basis
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: i got around 1k hits on my basics a day
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: so there is a real need of basics out
01:32 AM gloops: well once you understand the basics you can start to work things out for yourself, without them everything is impossible
01:34 AM IchGucksLive: you woudent beive what peopple comming to the info point on fairs
01:35 AM IchGucksLive: mashines you woudt build on 3k $ are sold at 18k as people dont know how
01:38 AM gloops: well i know germany has kept a lot of its industry, but like here in the UK we have been de-industrialised for a couple of decades, the new generation has no practical engineering knowledge or skills, they cant fix their bicycle if the chain comes off
01:39 AM gloops: pretty simple stuff like screwing something together square is a mystery to them, building a machine is a mind boggling feat to them
01:40 AM sync: blame thatcher for that
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: like me
01:40 AM gloops: well yes absolutely - and the unions one has to add
01:40 AM IchGucksLive: fighting against the system for 40years
01:41 AM gloops: the culture has totally changed, years ago kids would play with mechano sets and electronics games and tinker with bikes and motorbike engines and their dads car - not now they sit on playstations all day
01:48 AM MarcelineVQ: you'll burn your butt doing that
01:51 AM IchGucksLive: MarcelineVQ: from next week on i will add anothere Zero to my AGE so they can circle around me with no harm ;-)
01:58 AM Wolf__: so, lets play name that lathe https://i.imgur.com/WjcmWDV.jpg
02:05 AM IchGucksLive: cool thing with mechaical gear clamps
02:06 AM Wolf__: I think its a Jet, but not sure
02:06 AM IchGucksLive: simular to a wako DR1100
02:07 AM IchGucksLive: im off later
02:09 AM archivist: unused lathe, too clean
02:09 AM Crom: Stevie I need Ashley's and Harley's paypal's as wellashley mccarthyebayIn the picture the left mostbrushless 1/4 impact driver38 usc 241
02:10 AM Wolf__: archivist: yes very clean
02:11 AM Wolf__: archivist: https://i.imgur.com/LxiIeKA.jpg everything was very clean, looking at buying out this guys stuff
02:12 AM Wolf__: all he did was small high tolerance parts in plastic and aluminum, mill has a 1985 date on it and no play I could feel by hand
02:14 AM archivist: if the price is right, goferit
02:15 AM Wolf__: $5200, mill, lathe, drill press, polishing setups, raw stock, shit ton of cutters/drills/mills, tooling, everything
02:15 AM gloops: dont know the lathe, i think i might have a chuck to fit it though
02:15 AM Wolf__: D3 cam lock
02:15 AM Wolf__: has 3 chucks with it
02:15 AM gloops: hmm maybe not then haha
02:16 AM gloops: i have got a chuck about 8 inch with a taper fitting and a thread, no idea what its off, too big for my lathe
02:17 AM gloops: looked at that pic and thought hmm, that looks like it would fit
02:18 AM Wolf__: its only maybe a 12” swing x 36 centers (42-48” bed iirc)
02:18 AM archivist: similar fitting on a Colchester I think
02:18 AM Wolf__: spent more time looking at tooling then the machines
02:18 AM gloops: archivist that makes sense actually, my lathe is a brittania colchester, (not a colchester) maybe someone bought it thinking it would fit
02:19 AM gloops: i might ebay it it would be worth a little bit if it fits colchester
02:20 AM archivist: I was cleaning a chuck the other day, ready to use or sell, it has a crack under the rust
02:20 AM gloops: Wolf 12 inch and 36 plenty big enough isnt it?
02:20 AM Wolf__: one plus, that lathe has a aloris AxA tool post and about 20 holders as well
02:20 AM gloops: some pretty shallow areas on some chucks archivist
02:20 AM Wolf__: and a 5c adapter and closer
02:21 AM archivist: tooling does make a difference
02:21 AM gloops: few whacks with a hammer - cracked
02:21 AM archivist: crack cannot be from a hammer where it is
02:21 AM Wolf__: my guess would be that there is 2x if not more $$$ in tooling then I’m paying for the whole mess
02:22 AM gloops: toolpost and holders would fetch hmm, over £150 here id say
02:22 AM Wolf__: holders are $50 each new
02:22 AM Wolf__: its all actual Aloris stuff not clones
02:23 AM gloops: yeah, i put an old post on ebay with a mounting sheared off - went for £60
02:23 AM Deejay: moin
02:23 AM Wolf__: Albrecht chucks for each machine as well
02:26 AM Wolf__: I’m still dumbfounded by how tight that mill and lathe are, no wear on them at all, scraping still looked new on them lol
02:27 AM archivist: you need a clean place to put them
02:28 AM gloops: sometimes get that in a tool room or something, a few lathes and mills dotted around, guy has his favourite machine he does almost everything on, other machine barely gets used
02:28 AM gloops: one day they say - may as well get rid of that
02:28 AM Wolf__: this was from a home shop, I think he got the tools new
02:28 AM gloops: 20 year old barely used
02:29 AM Wolf__: he was doing small parts in alum and plastics only partly because it would be less wear on the machines so he could hold tighter tolerances
02:30 AM Wolf__: was making parts for electron microscopes and other crazy stuff
02:30 AM gloops: not been hammered then
02:30 AM archivist: does it come with free electron microscope?
02:31 AM Wolf__: no, but he said I he would give me the contacts for all his customers lol
02:33 AM archivist: that makes it worth some more if the work is worth something and not a loss maker
02:34 AM Wolf__: I’m not sure I could even make some of the parts, he was doing some stuff at 0 tolerance
02:34 AM gloops: well i have got to move the wiring for my little cnc build, all of it, needs re-routing to overhead so i can use machine properly, only thing is i didnt use colour coded wires its all grey
02:34 AM gloops: this will be tedious
02:35 AM Wolf__: doh, number lines
02:36 AM archivist: if the colour is constant you cannot use the wrong wire, it's the grey wire
02:36 AM Wolf__: lmao
02:37 AM archivist: we wired a raft that way
02:37 AM gloops: from all the motors to the drivers
02:38 AM gloops: i just connected grey to the motor wire then into the driver, im going to have to follow them all back manually#
02:38 AM gloops: anyway bbl
02:38 AM Wolf__: ohm them
02:38 AM archivist: my steppers are red wires
02:39 AM archivist: Wolf__, plastic tends to grow with machining then shrinks when it cools
02:40 AM Wolf__: now for the bad, that lathe doesn’t have the original motor, has a 110v stuck on it not the 220 motor so it only has forward, and the mill X feed isn’t working for some reason
02:40 AM Wolf__: yeah…
02:40 AM Wolf__: so I have no idea how he got the stuff dialed in that tight
02:40 AM archivist: sounds like easy fixes
02:41 AM Wolf__: yup, lathe I’ll get a 220 3phase and slap a VFD on it, mill would get one as well
02:41 AM archivist: couls have cheated, make over and grind polish to size
02:41 AM Wolf__: he might have
02:41 AM archivist: and what measuring gear did he have
02:41 AM Wolf__: seeing the microscope parts were polished acrylic
02:42 AM Wolf__: didn’t get in to much of the measuring stuff
02:43 AM Wolf__: only things I saw was a couple inside o-ring dial calipers and a 12” mitsu dial caliper
02:44 AM archivist: his 0 tol might be wider than you think
02:45 AM Wolf__: lol true
02:46 AM archivist: I know a fella that used to put+-0 on a drawing, I took the piss, he said it means make as good as you can
02:46 AM Wolf__: he did tell me he would shoot of over
02:46 AM Wolf__: of/for
02:48 AM archivist: I often use my digital calipers and measure just before the last cut, half it take the cut and see dead on size, according to the caliper
02:50 AM Wolf__: yup
02:52 AM archivist: near enough :)
02:53 AM Wolf__: hehe, yeah, at least the machines look good, and the tooling is nice. seems to be a killer deal
02:57 AM Wolf__: probably a few hundred new end mills, full stocked drawer drill indexes in numbered and fractional, bunch of screw machine type bits, full 5c and r8 collet sets… and thats just the start lol
02:58 AM archivist: have you fetched it all yet?
02:59 AM Wolf__: not yet, going back in a few days to look the rest over
02:59 AM Wolf__: this stuff is my highshool gf’s fathers stuff
03:00 AM archivist: retiring?
03:00 AM Wolf__: yeah, had a heart attack and mild stroke that effected his short term memory, makes it really hard to machine stuff
03:03 AM archivist: the car I have came from someones father became too frail to drive
03:05 AM Wolf__: he told me the big problem is he would get 5 hrs in to a part then forget that he took a tenth pass off of it and do it a 2nd time ruining the part
03:10 AM archivist: cnc helps to get right first time on one offs, but setup can take longer
03:10 AM Wolf__: yup
03:11 AM Wolf__: I have most of the parts so I can look in to adding cnc to the mill and lathe =)
03:12 AM Wolf__: will be nice having something bigger then my bench top junks as well
03:14 AM archivist: I got to look around a metrology company the other day, they sell second hand CMMs
03:15 AM Wolf__: nice
03:16 AM archivist: was fetching http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renishaw-MIH-Probe/263134449092
03:16 AM Wolf__: damn nice
03:24 AM archivist: I think I should make a box for it
03:28 AM Wolf__: I wonder if he has the manuals for these machines lol
03:29 AM archivist: if bought I bet yes
03:29 AM archivist: ^new
03:29 AM Wolf__: still need to try to find the threading rod and change gears for the lathe also
03:30 AM archivist: it has gearbox
03:30 AM Wolf__: it has both
03:31 AM Wolf__: 2 gear sets for sae/metric threading
03:34 AM Wolf__: at least I think it does, didn’t take a good look at the gear chart on it, but I know my friends jet 1240P has the same setup, but it had knobs for the gear box
03:35 AM archivist: I was wondering if the english/metric was part of the gearbox as both seem to be on the label
03:37 AM Wolf__: I should have taken a better pic of the gearbox label lol
03:37 AM archivist: I can see mm and TPI although the focus and angle does not allow for more sense yet
03:39 AM Wolf__: the blurry pic is the change gears on the side of the headstock, has gear tooth count call outs for the matching charts
03:40 AM XXCoder: boo
03:42 AM XXCoder: Wolf__: just read some of what you said
03:42 AM XXCoder: nice!
03:42 AM Wolf__: =)
03:42 AM Wolf__: only took me 24 yrs or so to pick this stuff up lol
03:43 AM XXCoder: before finding a good deal? or bought 24 years ago, not picked up yet? lol
03:44 AM Wolf__: naa, he told me like 24 yrs ago that I could buy it all when he retired lol
03:44 AM XXCoder: ahh
03:47 AM Wolf__: timing was good, I was just starting to look for machines again
03:48 AM XXCoder: nice
03:50 AM Wolf__: hmm, crap, no threading dial on it either…
03:52 AM archivist: make one
03:53 AM Wolf__: might be stashed away with the threading lead and the other misc parts that are in his garage
03:55 AM archivist: you get hous of fun sorting it all out when you get home
03:55 AM archivist: hours
03:55 AM XXCoder: just hours?
03:55 AM Wolf__: hell, I’m thinking days of just moving stuff
03:56 AM XXCoder: soooo
03:57 AM XXCoder: any of you want to buy old 90s cell? lol
03:57 AM Wolf__: lol
03:57 AM XXCoder: company I work at apparently plan to get rid of old one
03:57 AM XXCoder: and buy new one
03:58 AM XXCoder: also, omg they plan to get rid of old fadal 88
03:58 AM XXCoder: its one of their orginial machines lol
04:00 AM XXCoder: I hoped they would dump office mills but nope. BAH!
04:00 AM XXCoder: those machine suck
04:07 AM XXCoder: Wolf__: congats on great deal :)
04:07 AM Wolf__: wait till its sitting in my shop to say that lol
04:12 AM XXCoder: lol ok
04:13 AM XXCoder: I wonder who would buy the old cell lol
04:13 AM XXCoder: its probably million bucks
04:13 AM XXCoder: I also wonder if linuxcnc can run a cell :P
04:14 AM Wolf__: lol
04:15 AM sync: Probably, but it would be a pain
04:17 AM XXCoder: I think they are training people on a61 a lot because of coming new cell
04:18 AM XXCoder: future is always interesting eh heh
04:56 AM XXCoder: awwww
04:57 AM XXCoder: no more nectar flavor soylent
05:45 AM jthornton: morning
05:45 AM Deejay: hey
05:47 AM XXCoder: good morning Sir
05:49 AM jthornton: going to be a nice day for a ride today
06:01 AM XXCoder: nice
06:01 AM XXCoder: wow just watched 8-bit guy "nice rant" about people sending him stuff even when he said he dont want em
06:01 AM jdh: rain and lightning here. ride cancelled
06:01 AM XXCoder: imange it, someone sending it even though guy specifically states he dont want it
06:02 AM XXCoder: waste money
06:02 AM _methods: yeah
06:02 AM _methods: shitty here too
06:03 AM XXCoder: here its looking to be very hot for 9th month weekend
06:03 AM XXCoder: and week good grief nearly 100f
06:03 AM XXCoder: calfornia is way worse
06:06 AM jthornton: one of the group is going on his first ride since he got a new liver so it will be a short ride
06:08 AM XXCoder: liver will never be short lol since its only organ that will regrow to full size so can donate repeatively
06:18 AM jthornton: I didn't know that
06:19 AM XXCoder: yeah its weird
06:20 AM XXCoder: they remove only 1.4 of it
06:20 AM XXCoder: er 1/4
06:27 AM jthornton: all right now zoneminder is working
06:33 AM jthornton: well one camera is the second one is a blue screen lol
06:34 AM XXCoder: aww heh
06:34 AM jthornton: and now we have both working yea
06:39 AM XXCoder: https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/wwoeh7f4atzys8nva6nc.jpg
06:39 AM XXCoder: that happened few years ago
06:40 AM XXCoder: plane was "in" rainbow, and lighning hit hit, and lighting "followed" the rainbow
06:40 AM XXCoder: poor leprechaun
06:40 AM jthornton: cool looking
06:41 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:29 AM SpeedEvil: makes it 20% cooler.
07:43 AM Tom_L: hey
07:46 AM jthornton: got my server and zoneminder and the cameras all playing nice this morning
07:47 AM jthornton: I'm liking that motherboard and cpu
07:47 AM Tom_L: i bet
07:49 AM Tom_L: i think if i went with anything better than an i5 i'd get an i9 and that ain't gonna happen
07:50 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Mini-ITX-Computer-RC-110-KKN2/dp/B00ID2FBU6
07:50 AM jthornton: thinking about this case but I'd need a different cpu cooler
07:51 AM jthornton: I think
07:51 AM Tom_L: is it any taller than the other one?
07:51 AM jthornton: I think it's about the same about 8"
07:52 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2WG23X
07:52 AM jthornton: I wonder how many watts I need in a power supply
07:53 AM Tom_L: mine is 400 or less
07:53 AM Tom_L: but i'm not running a fancy graphic card either
07:53 AM Tom_L: that eats up the power
07:55 AM Tom_L: alot of your performance gain is the M.2 connector
07:55 AM Tom_L: mine doesn't have one
07:56 AM jthornton: yea I was really surprised with the M.2
07:56 AM jthornton: makes me want one for my desktop cad pc
07:56 AM Tom_L: i've read about it but it wasn't available when i got my gigabyte board
07:57 AM Tom_L: that and i like having a parport still
07:57 AM Tom_L: oh wait, that one doesn't have a parport.. sry
07:58 AM Tom_L: i could upgrade the mb and ram and be ok probably
07:58 AM Tom_L: i'm not sure if my ram is ddr4 or 3
07:58 AM jthornton: this one has a parallel and serial header on the motherboard
07:58 AM Tom_L: mine is plenty good for the cad i do
07:59 AM jthornton: mine is really slow compared to a few years ago with older SW and OS
07:59 AM Tom_L: just checked, cpu-z says i've got ddr4
08:00 AM Tom_L: so all i lack is the M2 plug
08:00 AM jthornton: http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/
08:01 AM Tom_L: how much ram did you get?
08:01 AM jthornton: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017NW5NZY
08:01 AM jthornton: 16GB
08:02 AM Tom_L: same here
08:02 AM L29Ah: tried to open a g-code file that accidentally starts with " in axis
08:02 AM Tom_L: running a samsung evo ssd
08:02 AM L29Ah: and it hanged
08:02 AM Tom_L: the M2 would be faster
08:02 AM jthornton: change the name...
08:03 AM L29Ah: it's not the name, it's the contents
08:03 AM L29Ah: i wonder if i can kill it and still preserve the machine state
08:03 AM jthornton: doing the power calc it says 221w is all I need
08:04 AM Tom_L: this case came with a 400w supply
08:04 AM jthornton: dunno that's an OS question google might help
08:04 AM Tom_L: so it's probably 300 if you do the chinglish conversion
08:04 AM jthornton: I have a couple of power supplies so I'll skip that for now
08:04 AM Tom_L: most of those cheap cases come with em
08:05 AM L29Ah: huh?
08:05 AM Tom_L: i've got a couple of the itx ones i showed you
08:06 AM Tom_L: iirc those were 200 - 250w
08:09 AM jthornton: time to wander outside
08:09 AM Tom_L: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/x-series/i9-7900x.html
08:14 AM Tom_L: 16 cores is only ~100 per core
08:15 AM Deejay: one core for each axis is enough ;)
08:15 AM Tom_L: dunno if the 18 is released yet
09:50 AM phipli: https://shop.udoo.org/x86.html
09:50 AM phipli: if I haven't posted it already, that should run linuxcnc I guess, although it lacks a parallel port
09:51 AM phipli: second hand computers would be cheaper though, but it is nice and small
09:55 AM JT-Shop: morning
09:57 AM phipli: morning
09:57 AM phipli: how goes?
09:57 AM JT-Shop: digging post holes in my rocky clay ground... going for a motorcycle ride this afternoon
09:57 AM JT-Shop: chicks just come running and crawl all over me lol
09:58 AM phipli: :)
09:58 AM phipli: excellent
09:58 AM phipli: ours were pecking my thumb a bit hard this morning
09:58 AM phipli: the young ones still have very pointy beaks
09:58 AM JT-Shop: about 1/2 come at once when called and a few seconds later another 1/4 come running some still don't get it
09:59 AM JT-Shop: yea the young ones have sharp beaks, I guess once they start pecking at the ground it gets worn smooth?
09:59 AM phipli: seems to be a maturing thing
10:00 AM JT-Shop: be back in a bit gotta get a few more inches dug
10:00 AM phipli: they do rummage for food on the ground
10:00 AM phipli: but the older ones have a lot more blunt beaks
10:00 AM phipli: I'll probably vanish soon
10:00 AM phipli: heading over to a friends place in a bit
10:06 AM * Loetmichel is freezing in here... 18°C in the room and the landlord hat put the central heating in "summer mode" (only hot water)... i should play a few 3dgames... gtx960ti ought to produce a bit of heat;)
10:18 AM JT-Shop: see you around later
10:27 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: hi
01:14 PM Crom: just ordered a 5125-7176 kit from mesa yay!
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: Crom: why not direct 7i76e ethernet
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: do youneed more feturers then the 7i76
01:24 PM tpra: hi
01:25 PM IchGucksLive: hi tpra
01:29 PM Tom_L: ich, is the 7i92 7i76 the way to go for ethernet stepper interface?
01:32 PM Tom_L: or does the 7i76 interface directly with the pc?
01:32 PM tpra: i have a 7i76e which looks good for ethernet stepper interface, but i can't tell you if it's the way to go as i didn't even tested it yet...
01:33 PM tpra: the 7i76 (not 7i76e) doesn't directly interface to the PC if i understood correctly, you'll need a combo like 5i25 + 7i76 (and a parallel cable)
01:33 PM Tom_L: i wondered if it was a daughter card or if it would interface directly with the pc
01:33 PM Tom_L: it's listed in peter's store under daughter cards
01:34 PM Tom_L: the e is the one i was looking at
01:35 PM Tom_L: tpra does it have the 0-10v dac for spindle interface?
01:35 PM tpra: the E version works "standalone" through ethernet with a rtpreempt kernel
01:35 PM Tom_L: near as i can tell it does
01:35 PM Tom_L: ahh, the ethernet require rtpreempt... i remember that now
01:36 PM Tom_L: looks like a good all in one card for steppers
01:36 PM Tom_L: and can add cards via 25pin plug or sserial
01:37 PM tpra: yes there are 2 extension slots
01:38 PM Tom_L: are all the io differential ?
01:39 PM Crom: just got something to get started with.
01:39 PM tpra: actually i'm a pure cnc noob so i can't answer this :D i choosed this board because it looked the best choice for ethernet control of a simple cnc router, but i actually didn't try it yet.
01:39 PM Tom_L: i think you made a good choice
01:40 PM Tom_L: from what i can see
01:40 PM Tom_L: my MB won't run rtpreempt though, it's too slow
01:40 PM Tom_L: i have one that will but i'm not gonna rewire everything at this point
01:42 PM tpra: all i can say is i saw some videos of machines running with a 7i76e, so i told myself if people can do it, let's try it ^^
01:42 PM tpra: i doubt mesa would sell boards that don't work :)
01:42 PM Tom_L: mine's running off a parallel port
01:42 PM Tom_L: 7i90
01:42 PM Crom: so getting that next month!
01:42 PM Tom_L: no their boards are top notch
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: sorry
01:43 PM Tom_L: Crom, the 7i90?
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: yes
01:43 PM Crom: 7i76e
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: its the cheepest
01:43 PM Tom_L: IchGucksLive, i don't think my MB will run preempt though
01:43 PM Tom_L: it would be a nice board to play with thouth
01:43 PM Tom_L: though
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: you got 2 parport
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: pcm did8 axis on it
01:44 PM Tom_L: huh?
01:44 PM tpra: try the live stretch image, you'll know if it's fast enough
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: on the 7i92
01:44 PM Tom_L: oh
01:44 PM Tom_L: yeah i saw that
01:44 PM tpra: http://www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: there are 2 encoders
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: and also 6 outs
01:44 PM Tom_L: you wouldn't need that board with the 7i76e though
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: 10 inputs
01:45 PM IchGucksLive: its 90USD for the 7i92 and 5 USD on the BOB 5Axis
01:45 PM Tom_L: good point
01:45 PM IchGucksLive: this also got 0-10V
01:45 PM Tom_L: i went the 7i90 route cause it's cheeeep
01:45 PM IchGucksLive: you got FPGA stepgen
01:45 PM Tom_L: and the 7i47s
01:46 PM Tom_L: which has spindle support
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: also you doint need space it fits perfect my 5axis cabinett
01:46 PM Tom_L: ether wasn't available yet when i did that
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: the 5axis bob has also spindle suport
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: agree on that
01:47 PM Tom_L: what's the bob number?
01:47 PM IchGucksLive: where
01:47 PM Tom_L: the 5axis bob has also spindle suport
01:47 PM IchGucksLive: http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/5achs_elek
01:47 PM Tom_L: that one
01:47 PM IchGucksLive: the one connected
01:48 PM Tom_L: that's also a mesa board right?
01:48 PM Tom_L: which one?
01:48 PM Tom_L: oh wait, that's for db25, i need 50 pin
01:49 PM IchGucksLive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgraded-5-Axis-CNC-Breakout-Interface-Board-For-Stepper-Driver-Controller-Mach3-/252842776003
01:49 PM IchGucksLive: ok there is more then one way to go
01:49 PM Tom_L: yep
01:49 PM Tom_L: that's not a mesa board
01:50 PM Tom_L: IchGucksLive is that the one you needed the bit file for?
01:56 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: yes
01:56 PM IchGucksLive: he did also the in the USA C10_C11 board
01:57 PM IchGucksLive: bit that one is all you need to run a full 4 axis with VFD
01:58 PM Tom_L: what's that control going on?
01:58 PM IchGucksLive: 5V suply for outputs and 12-24V for inputs and VFD
02:01 PM IchGucksLive: i managed 8000mm/min with no steplos on a ballscrew at 6mm bit 5 depth around 1hr till the bit break
02:01 PM IchGucksLive: it has been a max test
02:01 PM IchGucksLive: the board is also in the SCULP mashine
02:02 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: speed is all you need https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqx9w80diKo
02:02 PM IchGucksLive: its the cheepest you can go
02:03 PM IchGucksLive: BOB 5USD / 4x TB6600 a 8USD
02:03 PM IchGucksLive: 36V at 15USD
02:03 PM IchGucksLive: and the 1USD DC/DC LM25xx
02:04 PM IchGucksLive: cables youo may got
02:04 PM IchGucksLive: JST_XH_3s are 5USD 10 pices
02:04 PM IchGucksLive: im off
02:04 PM Tom_L: 9-42v, i'm running 48v
02:04 PM Tom_L: bye
02:05 PM IchGucksLive: im not here Tomorrow as we Go birthday party
02:05 PM Tom_L: yours?
02:05 PM IchGucksLive: ;-)
02:05 PM Tom_L: have a happy one
02:05 PM IchGucksLive: will add a ZERO
02:05 PM Tom_L: i just had one
02:05 PM Tom_L: we don't discuss em anymore :)
02:25 PM tpra: i have some spare hall effect sensors from a 3D printer, do you think i could use them as homing switch on a cnc router ? (with a mesa board) they are 5V rated
02:26 PM CaptHindsight: are they very repeatable?
02:27 PM tpra: well that's what the marketing says, but i actually never verified it ^^
02:27 PM tpra: i also have some simple mechanical switches (which at least i know how to wire to the mesa)
02:27 PM CaptHindsight: no Yoda heads in the CNC video ^^ , I don't understand what is happening :)
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: which Mesa board? What is the field IO voltage?
02:28 PM tpra: i think it's 8V minimum :/
02:28 PM CaptHindsight: if it's $V then you'll need to voltage shift using an opto or similar
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: 24V
02:29 PM tpra: i could perhaps use an external power supply (i have a 5V PSU in the case anyway)
02:29 PM CaptHindsight: the 24V logic will still expect the high to be higher than 5V
02:30 PM tpra: ok
02:30 PM tpra: so i'll forget that, will keep it simple for my first cnc build :)
02:30 PM CaptHindsight: voltage divider will get you 5V from 24V
02:31 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, so use the switch at 24V
02:32 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fma_wuE9dx4 maybe this is the approach for polymer granite bases
02:33 PM CaptHindsight: sink anchors into the surface and then use fixtures to hold the parts
02:34 PM tpra: datron...
02:34 PM tpra: beautiful machines :)
02:43 PM gloops: too expensive
02:56 PM CaptHindsight: this machine goes to !! ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdCRCcwDeKQ
02:57 PM XXCoder: not just 11 but !! whoa
03:01 PM XXCoder: perfect for running infinity jobs
03:04 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/Gaso2DNv3xc?t=1m53s had to peck tap even wit this setup
03:05 PM XXCoder: taps is nasty anyway
03:06 PM XXCoder: once had blackout when machine was tapping a part. I had to leave that part of cell closed
03:06 PM XXCoder: ran remaining machine for rest of day
03:07 PM XXCoder: I need to learn how to recover from time when part was in middle of tapping when something happened.
03:07 PM CaptHindsight: start from when the tap began
03:07 PM MarcelineVQ: if you can spin it back out can't you just rerun the whole tapping operation?
03:08 PM CaptHindsight: unless you're tapping 20" deep and it quits 5" in
03:08 PM XXCoder: wouldnt tap could start from different point? or is it sync'd and would start from same place each time?
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: good qustion, does your machine know?
03:09 PM XXCoder: its pretty modern im sure it does but i havent been trainedn on that part
03:09 PM CaptHindsight: if the machine only knows where the end of the tap is then no
03:10 PM CaptHindsight: if it knows where the start of the thread is then yes
03:10 PM XXCoder: interesting
03:14 PM pcw_home: LinuxCNC maintains spindle sync so you can restart a tapping operation
03:14 PM pcw_home: (this is also used for peck tapping)
03:14 PM CaptHindsight: pcw_home: have you fully unpacked yet?
03:15 PM CaptHindsight: i decided to just store lots of things in containers that just get moved vs packed unpacked
03:15 PM pcw_home: not really but at least operational (until we need that odd test fixture)
03:16 PM pcw_home: I've remade some things rather than search for them...
03:16 PM CaptHindsight: yeah I have spent too many hours playing husker-du with parts
03:17 PM CaptHindsight: and it's pretty well organized
03:17 PM pcw_home: we are still a bit cramped, we bought the building but still have a tenant occupying 1/2
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: how long until their lease is up?
03:18 PM pcw_home: 2 years
03:18 PM CaptHindsight: I haven't decided where I'm going to settle down yet
03:18 PM pcw_home: Its all right, its forced me to be better organized
03:19 PM CaptHindsight: we have a crazy barking dog in the next unit
03:20 PM CaptHindsight: I never expected this in an industrial site
03:20 PM CaptHindsight: my last resort is 1KW of ultrasonic bark free training
03:21 PM CaptHindsight: since they seem to think that training the dog is just impossible
03:22 PM CaptHindsight: how many db's at 50khz does it take to punch through a wall? :)
03:33 PM Crom: so far it's only 37.5C at 1pm
03:33 PM Crom: in the shade, and there is a nice breaze
03:35 PM Crom: Just ordered a Dell i7-7500u 16gb 2tb "gaming" 17" lptop.
03:39 PM gloops: im fancying one of those lazers for pyrography
03:39 PM gloops: they are making a bit of cash if you look on the pyro facebook pages, build looks a cinch
04:36 PM Tom_L: CaptHindsight maybe it's a guard dog
04:49 PM Deejay: gn8
04:58 PM XXCoder: guys
04:58 PM XXCoder: https://futurism.com/orange-is-the-new-raspberry-welcome-to-the-age-of-the-20-quad-core-computer/
04:58 PM XXCoder: I wonder if thats enough to run linuxcnc
04:58 PM XXCoder: if so, its easy onboard computer. I wonder what its latency is like
05:04 PM Tom_L: spend twenty bux and find out
05:08 PM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
05:20 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: 20lb fuzzy barker
05:20 PM CaptHindsight: only there during business hours
05:21 PM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: latency jitter is <100Khz , no open gpu driver
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: would be fine with FPGA
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: or slower hardware stepping
05:22 PM CaptHindsight: preempt_rt was ~70k
05:48 PM phipli: evening
05:53 PM phipli: replacement 100mA lipo batteries arrived for my tiny quad yesterday
05:53 PM phipli: charging one now
06:01 PM pcw_home: Yow, 108 outside now
06:06 PM CaptHindsight: fall weather in the midwest
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: 60's now
06:22 PM pcw_home: This is a record here
06:23 PM pfred1: this is a what?
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=https://img.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/files/2017/09/ecmwf_z500_norm_west3_2.png&w=1484
06:55 PM JT-Shop: evening
06:56 PM pfred1: yes it is
06:57 PM JT-Shop: the chicks are getting used to being picked up and put back in the brooder
06:58 PM JT-Shop: new ones still getting picked on?
07:04 PM phipli: Mine?
07:04 PM phipli: yes
07:04 PM phipli: been a little bit better the last few days
07:04 PM phipli: but saw my older one give my younger one a whack earlier
07:05 PM phipli: I'm hoping they'll get a bit better once they start laying
07:06 PM pfred1: we process so many chickens here sometimes i see the birds wandering on the sides of the roads
07:06 PM pfred1: when someone forgot to close a cage
07:10 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: west is at hottest temps of year now. weird bump of temp
07:10 PM pfred1: it got cool here
07:12 PM JT-Shop: mine are starting to get some night time now up to 6 hrs a night now of sleepy time
07:13 PM JT-Shop: weather was nice here today as well
07:15 PM phipli: has gone cold here suddenly
07:15 PM phipli: last couple of days
07:18 PM JT-Shop: I can't wait for colder weather
07:21 PM pfred1: I can
07:21 PM pfred1: yeah I put on long pants for the first time today it sucks
07:27 PM JT-Shop: I also got zoneminder all set up this morning on my server finally
07:28 PM JT-Shop: see everyone in the morning
07:29 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, get a good ride in?
07:29 PM Tom_L: was prett nice here
07:29 PM Tom_L: y
07:33 PM JT-Shop: yea, we didn't go far it was the first ride for Richard with his new liver
07:33 PM JT-Shop: about 150 miles
07:34 PM JT-Shop: talk about a rodeo when I bring the cricket container out and start shaking crickets out lol
07:34 PM JT-Shop: heading inside see everyone in the morning
07:36 PM Tom_L: heh
07:36 PM Tom_L: later
07:41 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: yeah, was reading about your heatwave, unusual especially for northern CA and the bay area
07:41 PM XXCoder: work on tues and wed is going to be hell
07:42 PM Tom_L: wonder what to try next on the mill..
07:43 PM pcw_home: most homes in the coastal bay dont have air conditioning because this kind of heat is so rare
07:43 PM pcw_home: coastal bay area
07:44 PM XXCoder: my home is techinically near-coastal as its only mile away from inlet sea
07:44 PM pfred1: I have air conditioning
07:44 PM pcw_home: is like 110 out now (87 inside) I froze some water bottles to help our rabbits cope
07:47 PM Tom_L: seems like it's been cooler here this year overall
07:47 PM BeachBumPete: https://www.facebook.com/RTbuildingplan/
07:47 PM BeachBumPete: this looks pretty cool would love to build a T-rex
07:47 PM Tom_L: BeachBumPete happen to get a chance to pull your configs?
07:48 PM pfred1: right now we're getting hit by the remnants of Harvey
07:48 PM BeachBumPete: Tom_L no man I gotta admit I fell asleep on the couch and slept most of the damn day away
07:48 PM BeachBumPete: I don't get to do that very often
07:48 PM Tom_L: i may as well have
07:48 PM pfred1: for what I accomplished i might as well have slept today
07:48 PM BeachBumPete: but with the long weekend it felt like a thing to do
07:49 PM Tom_L: bak in a few
07:49 PM BeachBumPete: I did get invited to go fishing on my bosses center console boat last night tho
07:49 PM BeachBumPete: we both took our daughters and had a blast
07:49 PM pfred1: just tell them to drop by with some fish
07:50 PM BeachBumPete: I caught a feisty jack that found HARD on my light tackle Penn fierce LOL
07:50 PM BeachBumPete: I SO need a nice boat here
07:51 PM pfred1: there's a boat ramp down the road from me that you can see from space
07:51 PM BeachBumPete: where is that?
07:52 PM BeachBumPete: I contacted that guy and he sells the plans to build one for like $200
07:54 PM BeachBumPete: I am not that knowledgeable about front suspension dual A arm geometry or I would just roll my own LOL
07:56 PM pfred1: ah here it is https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x89b8c9240d431e95:0xf4c232fadb441012!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2!1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!2m2!1m1!1e6!3m1!7e115!4s/maps/place/long%2Bneck%2Bboat%2Bramp/@38.6251878,-75.1002187,3a,75y,181.31h,90t/data%3D*213m4*211e1*213m2*211snJlMF3zllZySQLTglXUwQQ*212e0*214m2*213m1*211s0x89b8c9240d431e95:0xf4c232fadb441012!5slong+neck+boat+ramp+-+Google+Search&imagekey=!1e2!2snJ
07:58 PM pfred1: it is free and everything
07:58 PM BeachBumPete: there are probably a hundred boat ramps here that are all free to use hehe
07:59 PM pfred1: that's the closest one to me
08:14 PM jdh: I have a boat slip
08:22 PM pfred1: jdh I still would't use it
08:22 PM pfred1: heck I got a pool off my back deck and i never even made it in this year
08:23 PM pfred1: I thought about it
