01:14 AM IchGucksLive: good morning from Germany
01:17 AM IchGucksLive: JT-Shop: still here
01:18 AM IchGucksLive: hi James628
01:18 AM James628: Hi IchGucksLive
01:19 AM James628: Any information when git.linuxcnc.org will be back? I can't even ping the site..
01:19 AM IchGucksLive: how is it around hungarya still very hot there ?
01:19 AM James628: Now it's reasonable, 26-30C, but we had very hot summer
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: the side is full up and running
01:20 AM IchGucksLive: James628: if you doint have special needs please use the DVD setup
01:21 AM James628: Which pat of Germany do you live?
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: french boarder
01:22 AM James628: I wnat to get the source file for compile.. I used recently used git.linuxcnc.org which I assume different from github site..
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: the one i post is the officel one
01:23 AM IchGucksLive: the source may not be the best for stable use it is always on heavy development
01:24 AM Vq: 26°C is not reasonable
01:24 AM IchGucksLive: Vq: at this summer it is
01:25 AM Vq: I'd be melting
01:25 AM James628: I need some special fetaures so I want to compile the latest stuff.
01:26 AM James628: Vq: we had over 40C some days during nights 23C... are you from Nordic :) ?
01:27 AM James628: Then I will use the github, Thanks!!
01:28 AM * Vq <- swedish
01:30 AM Vq: I can't even imagine 40°C.
01:33 AM James628: Sometimes during winter we have "cool" weather too. -24C, but that' s nothing special for you..
01:39 AM IchGucksLive: James628: what is your special need on git use
01:41 AM Vq: I don't live in northmost Sweden so -24°C isn't that common although it happens, but a couple of nights a year with -18°C or -20°C is pretty standard.
01:42 AM IchGucksLive: im off till later ;-)
01:57 AM archivist: James628, we stopped running our own git and moved not long ago
02:00 AM James628: archivist: Thanks for the clarification, I just followed the documentation, and everywhere the git.linuxcnc.org was referrred.
02:02 AM archivist: http://meetlog.archivist.info/meeting.php?id=201706
02:03 AM archivist: decided back in june, takes a while to update all docs
02:06 AM James628: Sure, understand that it takes time
02:16 AM Deejay: moin
02:43 AM Crom: yeah it was 40 yesterday, 40 today, will be 40C tomorrow
02:45 AM Crom: COLD winter to us is -3 at 5am in the morning... usually more like 2 to 5C as the coldest
02:46 AM Crom: Thought I ordered the spindle and laser tube last night... finally got them ordered tonight
02:50 AM CaptHindsight: Crom: where are you?
02:50 AM Crom: on I15, in california 2 miles north of San Diego County line in Temecula
02:51 AM CaptHindsight: you're getting the heat
02:52 AM CaptHindsight: we started getting our fall weather over the past weekend, 64F right now
02:52 AM CaptHindsight: 18C
02:52 AM CaptHindsight: 10C, 50F at night
02:53 AM Crom: right now it's 25C outside at 00:20 at 16:00 it was 40C (104F)
03:01 AM CaptHindsight: almost nap time before I get my last 12 hours in
03:04 AM Crom: still warm...
04:55 AM XXCoder: odd.
04:55 AM XXCoder: next tues and wed is "mostly sun" and 94 and 95 respectively
04:55 AM XXCoder: f
04:56 AM XXCoder: if it does indeed hit 94 and 95f, it would be hottest point in summer.
04:57 AM XXCoder: hey TurBoss
04:59 AM TurBoss: hello!
04:59 AM XXCoder: wondered whats up with ya hehh
05:00 AM TurBoss: drawing some cubes
05:01 AM TurBoss: currently at work :D
05:01 AM XXCoder: cubes as in corexy or whatever? lol
05:01 AM XXCoder: I just got home from wiork
05:04 AM TurBoss: the back side of a tile
05:04 AM TurBoss: I just call them "cubes"
05:06 AM XXCoder: ah lol
05:19 AM jthornton: morning
05:22 AM XXCoder: hey
05:52 AM jthornton: looks like a good chance for rain today... just what I don't need with the dirt work I'm doing
05:53 AM XXCoder: fun
05:57 AM XXCoder: jthornton: hill-start thats new to me. interesting. https://www.eliomotors.com/answers-to-engineering-questions/?utm_campaign=Momentum
06:01 AM jthornton: so are they ever going to make them?
06:02 AM XXCoder: I wish I knew. though they are making nice progress, and stocks is up a bit
06:09 AM jthornton: did you see my video?
06:10 AM XXCoder: no?
06:11 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvVue9eCnnY&t=248s
06:14 AM phipli: right
06:15 AM XXCoder: yummy hair eh heh
06:15 AM phipli: an hour and a half to make an excessively complicated graph in excel (the error - should have used python)
06:15 AM phipli: time for a teabreak
06:15 AM CaptHindsight: "penguins is practically chickens"
06:16 AM XXCoder: jthornton: autocraptons chose spanish as language lol
06:17 AM XXCoder: ya tengo yo
06:17 AM phipli: CaptHindsight: perhaps linux should change its mascot?
06:17 AM phipli: "clux" the chicken
06:17 AM jthornton: lol
06:18 AM jthornton: used up all my bandwidth uploading it lol
06:18 AM CaptHindsight: showing my age https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxEN0RXzyuY
06:20 AM phipli: jthornton: did it finish uploading?
06:21 AM jthornton: yes
06:21 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxEN0RXzyuY
06:21 AM phipli: ta
06:21 AM phipli: nope
06:21 AM jthornton: can't figure out why cc is in spanish
06:21 AM phipli: that is Bugs
06:21 AM jthornton: opps
06:21 AM phipli: :)
06:22 AM jthornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvVue9eCnnY&t=248s
06:22 AM phipli: growing quickly
06:23 AM phipli: the one near you on your left arm looks like trouble
06:23 AM jthornton: I can only tell two of them apart, Blondie and Henry Jr
06:25 AM phipli: the one on your arm was way more interested in the room than the rest
06:25 AM phipli: most likely to go exploring
06:26 AM jthornton: yea they all want to explore
06:27 AM phipli: Right. Back to work for a bit before lunch
06:33 AM Tom_L: morning
06:40 AM Tom_L: they look almost 2x the size to when you got them
06:40 AM jthornton: 6x maybe now
06:42 AM Tom_L: you gettin harvey's leftovers yet?
06:49 AM jthornton: not yet, 50% chance of rain today and tonight
06:52 AM jthornton: I wonder what stupid person makes my video cc in spanish when I'm clearly not speaking spanish
06:55 AM XXCoder: dunno
06:55 AM XXCoder: I doubt its a person. autocrapons
06:58 AM jthornton: someone had to write the faulty code
06:59 AM XXCoder: did you actually speak?
07:05 AM phipli: I like that aliexpress offers welsh as a language - how many times has that been used!
07:24 AM MrSunshine: hmm, have a slight problem in my machine ... in Y the things i do seems to be about 1mm off .. in X they are fine, measured with indicator and both X and Y move exactly but has about 0.01mm backlash .. how the heck dould i measure the machine over greater distances ? :/
07:24 AM MrSunshine: 10mm does not give a true picture of a 1200mm long table
07:25 AM phipli: cut out a shape and measure it?
07:27 AM MrSunshine: phipli: well thats what has been done .. and for some reason im off ... the same mount over a length of 160mm and over 700mm ... but indicator says in not :/
07:27 AM MrSunshine: if there was flex in the gantry the error should be alot less on the driving side than the following side .. but the error is constant :/
07:28 AM phipli: is the tool diameter slightly off?
07:28 AM MrSunshine: phipli: cuts about 0.1mm small
07:29 AM phipli: how close is the nearest black hole? or other object with a mass high enough to noticeably distort space?
07:30 AM archivist: effective dia of a tool is greater than measured due errors of mounting etc
07:33 AM phipli: is the Z axis dead straight?
07:33 AM phipli: surely if it is a constant error it must be to do with the spindle / tool
07:33 AM archivist: if only on x or y then backlash etc
07:34 AM phipli: do a cut in the other direction and see if the error is the same?
07:34 AM phipli: no
07:34 AM phipli: it would be
07:34 AM archivist: hmm is this the machine with rope?
07:35 AM phipli: do each side in opposite directions
07:35 AM phipli: so that the tool pulls in a different direction to usual on one side
07:35 AM phipli: and see if the error is the same?
07:35 AM MrSunshine: its driven by ball screws
07:36 AM archivist: lean on the machine with a dti between base and spindle see how much machine flex there is
07:38 AM MrSunshine: yeah, there is some .. specialy furthest out .. but like i said if it was the flex that did it the error should be alot bigger further out from the driven side than right at the driven side
07:38 AM MrSunshine: :/
07:42 AM archivist: you may be assuming where the flex is incorrectly :)
07:43 AM archivist: cutter can pull the spindle in with cutting force
07:43 AM archivist: bent spindle will cut oversize
07:46 AM archivist: cut a slot then offset more than a slot width and cut another in opposite direction, slot will be wider than cutter with tool/spindle error, slot spacing can show machine flex
08:37 AM IchGucksLive: hi from Germany
09:12 AM tpra: hi :)
09:13 AM tpra: i'm trying to clone linuxcnc with git, but it seems i have the wrong url... i remember i've read here the new one, but can't find it :(
09:14 AM tpra: git/linuxcnc.org/git/linuxcnc.git returns a timeout error
09:15 AM IchGucksLive: tpra: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc
09:15 AM tpra: thanks
09:29 AM phipli: Dear Client. Your train couldn't pull the skin of a bowl of custard. Regards, Phipli
10:53 AM JT-Shop: hola
10:56 AM tpra: hi
10:58 AM tpra: i'm trying to install linuxcnc for an ethernet mesa board (7i76e). followed the rtpreempt mint linux install tutorial. everything looks like it compiled correctly, but i run latency test, the terminal returns "Note : Using POSIX non-realtime"
10:58 AM tpra: and i get crazy jitter (like 30 millions nanoseconds...)
10:59 AM phipli: perhaps you have multiple kernels installed?
10:59 AM phipli: you can select between them in grub?
10:59 AM phipli: (let other people please correct me)
10:59 AM tpra: yes i selected the rt one in grub, running uspace -r returns the good one
11:01 AM tpra: i'm just wondering if it could affect the latency test or if it's still reliable (then i should look for another computer i assume)
11:01 AM pcw_home: Did you choose "Fully Preemptable Kernel" when configuring the new kernel?
11:01 AM tpra: that was stated in the tutorial, but the option wasn't available in the window that opened
11:02 AM JT-Shop: pcw_home: I just sent you a question in an email :)
11:02 AM pcw_home: ok so you didn't build a RT kernle
11:02 AM tpra: i'm downloading the testing image for debian stretch rtpreempt, i believe it's the easier way to see if it's "me-related" or hardware related :D
11:03 AM pcw_home: Yeah I would try that as its much simpler
11:03 AM tpra: the page states that it's not recommended on production machines, does it mean that it's really unstable, or that it's not fully tested ?
11:15 AM tpra: the git page of the rtpreempt image says "On most systems, the "preempt-rt" kernel is not suitable for software step generation". does it mean that it won't work with the mesa 7i76e ?
11:20 AM JT-Shop: software step generation is using the parallel port not a Mesa card
11:22 AM tpra: oh ok, sorry for the stupid question... :/ so much to learn !
11:27 AM JT-Shop: not a stupid question
11:28 AM tpra: well you're kind :D i think i actually made a bad board choice for a noob
11:28 AM tpra: anyway now i have to get it working
11:33 AM Roguish: tpra: don't fret. lots of help here. also lots of documents. think 'keep it simple' and 'easy'.
11:34 AM JT-Shop: hey Roguish hows it going?
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: hi from germany
11:51 AM JT-Shop: pcw_home: thanks
11:52 AM IchGucksLive: tpra: still here
12:05 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_mesa: are you on the channel
12:07 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_home: are you here ?
12:18 PM pcw_mesa: here now, finally dragged by tired butt to work
12:18 PM IchGucksLive: thanks
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_mesa: what is the different between 7i92 and the M version
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: the discriptin is the same
12:20 PM pcw_mesa: 7I92M has a Male DB25 so can plug directly onto BOBs
12:20 PM IchGucksLive: Thanks
12:20 PM pcw_mesa: 7I92 has a female DB25 so normally needs a Male-Male cable
12:21 PM pcw_mesa: On 7I92H both connectors are 26 pin headers
12:22 PM pcw_mesa: all basically the same just need different cabling
12:23 PM IchGucksLive: Thanks i will order 3 in europ next week
12:26 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_mesa: woudent it be good to show this in the picture you got on shop
12:56 PM IchGucksLive: pcw_mesa: there is no bit file that fits the BOB -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I00ArvYvZgI
12:57 PM IchGucksLive: this is pin1 PWM pin 2 step pin3 dir with step/dir up to 4 Axis
12:57 PM IchGucksLive: all configs are DIR/step
01:02 PM IchGucksLive: is there a way to change DMMBOB1x2d
01:10 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: are you here
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: whow xilinx is 4GB on download
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: not able to do my own BIT file
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: oh i see i only need to change the cables ;-)
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: it will work
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: need only to make a BIG NOTE V
01:25 PM Tom_L: yes
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: hi tom
01:27 PM IchGucksLive: i think im in bad mood as i can change the cables on a BOB
01:28 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: you work with xilinx
01:29 PM Tom_L: some
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: are you able to change the 7i72xDMMBOB1x2d bit file DIR/STEP -> STEP/DIR to fit the cheep china bob pinout
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: its only to fit the pinout printing of this bob
01:30 PM Tom_L: if i know what pins are what
01:30 PM Tom_L: but i don't have time to do it right now
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: time is no factor X-mas is the goal
01:31 PM Tom_L: it's not hard to move them around as long as the daughter card supports the configuration
01:31 PM Tom_L: what's the main card?
01:31 PM Tom_L: 7i72?
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: 7i92
01:32 PM Tom_L: err yeah
01:32 PM Tom_L: probably what i need is the actual IO you want the STEP/DIR on
01:33 PM Tom_L: ( least confusing )
01:33 PM IchGucksLive: it is the 7i92_DMMBOB1x2D.pin
01:33 PM IchGucksLive: yust change all Step to Dir and all Dir to Step
01:33 PM Tom_L: i doubt i have the zip for that card, i'll have to grab it
01:41 PM Tom_L: ok i see a 7I92_DMMBOB1x2d.bit file but no source file for it
01:41 PM IchGucksLive: Tom_L: wait pcw is on it
01:42 PM Tom_L: he's gonna fix you up?
01:42 PM IchGucksLive: yes
01:42 PM Tom_L: ok
02:15 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
02:33 PM tpra: OK everything looks fine now with the rtpreempt stretch iso :) max jitter 2100 ns :)
02:34 PM tpra: thanks for your help , time to eat, will come back tomorrow for another session of noob's questions :D
02:34 PM tpra: GN
02:49 PM phipli: heh
02:49 PM phipli: I wonder if anyone would notice if I swapped my work i7 laptop for my home one...
02:50 PM Tom_L: nope
02:50 PM phipli: considering it is a few years old, it isn't a bad machine
02:51 PM phipli: SSD, 8gb ram...
02:51 PM phipli: quad core i7
02:51 PM phipli: we have different people doing IT now, so the newer machines they're handing out are /worse/
02:51 PM Tom_L: i felt a disturbance in the force
02:51 PM phipli: I look after it very carefully
02:52 PM phipli: did you fart?
02:52 PM Tom_L: it felt good too
03:01 PM MrSunshine: soo.. a buttload of flex in the machine ... managed to get the flex from 3mm to about 1mm now ... but another screw and a slave motor should do it ... if i had the money
04:11 PM gloops: hmm well yes that worked, probably better with the last driver though lol
04:35 PM Deejay: gn8
05:05 PM CaptHindsight: that Clausing I picked up with a supposedly bad variable speed control is actually fine, after letting it sit every night I hold the hydraulic control to full slow and a small bubble would appear...
05:06 PM CaptHindsight: after a couple weeks it was fully bled and runs within 10% of the marked speed
05:17 PM gloops: phone that makes stl models of a face or any other object - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/video_and_audio/headlines/41111442/sony-phone-app-takes-3d-clone-snaps
05:17 PM gloops: all this will be obsolete very soon
05:18 PM CaptHindsight: what if your clone snaps kills you in your sleep and takes over your life?
05:19 PM gloops: maybe it already did
05:23 PM CaptHindsight: I hate it when that happens
05:32 PM CaptHindsight: finding parts (drive train, limit switches, lamps, etc.) that work in 200-300C environments was more of a challenge then expected
05:35 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.gamut.com/p/high-temperature-snap-action-switch-spdt-pole-throw-configuration-MzYxMjI4
05:35 PM JT-Shop: that's pretty warm for stuff
05:37 PM CaptHindsight: yeah it's an oven with mechanisms
05:38 PM CaptHindsight: had to couple stepper motors to gear and chains inside
05:39 PM CaptHindsight: try to find a coupler that couples the power but not the heat
05:40 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.designworldonline.com/flexible-shaft-couplings-high-temperature-applications/
05:41 PM JT-Shop: well this sucks in order to mount the cpu fan I have to take the motherboard off and mount the adapter first...
05:44 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.oepcouplings.com/content/product_selection/selection_chart.html
05:45 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, a bigger heat sink and fan adds more stress than what the factory socket can handle
05:46 PM CaptHindsight: it's usually a plate that fits under the CPU socket thats larger than the factory supplied
05:46 PM CaptHindsight: some of that is also covered by patents
05:47 PM CaptHindsight: so other vendors have to make work-arounds to fit the bigger heat sink
05:48 PM CaptHindsight: I've had some really kludged adapters in the past
05:49 PM CaptHindsight: they should warn you on the box
05:54 PM CaptHindsight: how well do those tapping heads work with small M3-M5 and aluminum 5-15mm thick?
05:55 PM phipli: night folks
05:57 PM JT-Shop: night
06:01 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: did you sell your tapping head yet?
06:04 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/3a12dVF5EE0?t=2m37s M2's all day long
06:05 PM JT-Shop: no, do you want it?
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: thinking about it
06:07 PM CaptHindsight: I've come to the conclusion that i really don't like machining
06:08 PM JT-Shop: let me know before you order and I'll reduce the price for you
06:08 PM CaptHindsight: what range is yours again?
06:09 PM CaptHindsight: M4 is my most common size, followed by 1/4" and then 5/16", M5, M6, M2
06:11 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: those surplus relays you have are really nice as well
06:11 PM JT-Shop: #10 to 3/4"
06:12 PM CaptHindsight: ah a bit too big
06:12 PM CaptHindsight: really need 4mm
06:13 PM JT-Shop: it should do 4mm
06:14 PM CaptHindsight: #10 are ~4.8mm
06:14 PM CaptHindsight: M4.5
06:16 PM JT-Shop: yea box says M5-M18 but you might get a different collet for M4 check that out
06:16 PM CaptHindsight: I'll call or email them to find out if it could work with some adjustment or ?
06:16 PM JT-Shop: ok
06:17 PM CaptHindsight: JT-Shop: you don't tap anymore? :)
06:18 PM CaptHindsight: that spec is for steel
06:20 PM CaptHindsight: most of my work is one-offs so I guess I'm stuck
06:22 PM JT-Shop: yea but I have 3 CNC machines that do rigid tapping
06:23 PM JT-Shop: I think the spec is for the collet range not the material
06:26 PM CaptHindsight: what I could really use is a cordless a thread former
06:27 PM CaptHindsight: drills work ok with steel, not so much with aluminum
07:14 PM BeachBumPete: http://imgur.com/a/epZxb ;)
07:56 PM Tom_L: BeachBumPete, http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/screenshots/Remap_notes.txt
07:56 PM Tom_L: BeachBumPete, that's not the same one you were working on
07:58 PM BeachBumPete: Hey Tom
07:59 PM Tom_L: i think i went as far as i can without a tool changer
07:59 PM Tom_L: remap works now
07:59 PM BeachBumPete: no this is not the same one I was working on. I thought I posted photos of that but I do not remember. This is a FWB800 custom rail I machined for a customer and had it anodized red
07:59 PM Tom_L: unfinished ones
08:00 PM BeachBumPete: I thought it looked pretty cool
08:00 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:00 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: hi
08:00 PM BeachBumPete: oh hang on
08:00 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_L: yes, ordered a few of them and the thin din fuse holders
08:00 PM CaptHindsight: ~8mm thick DIN
08:01 PM CaptHindsight: and they have LED indicators for when the fuse blows
08:01 PM Tom_L: yeah that's nice
08:01 PM CaptHindsight: bbl
08:01 PM BeachBumPete: http://imgur.com/a/XaF53
08:01 PM Tom_L: i got local fuse holders because i didn't see em
08:01 PM BeachBumPete: hey tiwake
08:02 PM BeachBumPete: that is the prototype I was working on over the weekend
08:02 PM tiwake: I almost have enough money for shipping for the CNC lathe I'm going to be getting
08:03 PM BeachBumPete: nice
08:03 PM BeachBumPete: what kind is it?
08:03 PM tiwake: super excited about that
08:03 PM tiwake: hardinge HNC... not sure which variant
08:04 PM BeachBumPete: sweet
08:04 PM tiwake: is $2,000 an alright price?
08:04 PM tiwake: including shipping
08:04 PM tiwake: seems like to me it is
08:04 PM BeachBumPete: depending on condition I would think so
08:05 PM tiwake: $500 for the machine, $1,500 to ship it
08:05 PM BeachBumPete: heh thats what I paid for mine too
08:05 PM tiwake: unsure about the condition... I did see it, but there was stuff piled up and around it, could not get a good look
08:06 PM tiwake: seemed alright though... *shrug* was bought at an auction a long time ago as a project machine (new controller)
