12:14 AM hazzy: gn8
02:26 AM Deejay: moin
02:57 AM IchGucksLive: morning from Germany
05:35 AM XXCoder: heys
05:35 AM XXCoder: yo tumdedum
05:35 AM XXCoder: TurBoss
05:37 AM jthornton: morning
05:37 AM XXCoder: jthornton: theres apparently bladeless props "teracoper"
05:37 AM XXCoder: its fake render video so dunno if its real lol
06:31 AM Tom_L: morning
06:31 AM jthornton: morning
06:32 AM Tom_L: wish i could figure out why this orient thing won't turn on the spindle
06:34 AM jthornton: me too
06:35 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/sherline/sherline.hal
06:35 AM Tom_L: there's the latest config
06:35 AM Tom_L: if you happen to notice anything
06:36 AM Tom_L: the pid1 puts out a pulse but nothing turns
06:39 AM Tom_L: i've been looking at the vismach example and can't see anything
06:39 AM Tom_L: unless i'm missing a step
06:40 AM Tom_L: mux2.0 out switches between pid0 & pid1
06:44 AM -!- #linuxcnc mode set to +v by ChanServ
06:46 AM Tom_L: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/uploads/orient.svg
06:46 AM Tom_L: checked it against that for signals
06:48 AM jthornton: dang that is a small image
06:52 AM jthornton: https://www.forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/31560-need-help-to-orient-spindle-with-analog-vfd
06:58 AM gonzo_: soundss like that vis my next job
06:59 AM gonzo_: I need to start config'ing up the hal to get a pwm to drive the ADO on the 7i76 (think that is the i/f card)
07:01 AM gonzo_: though it seems bodgery to be using a pwm to an analogue vfd input./ When the vfd will talk rs485
07:01 AM gonzo_: but not seen of there is a way to get the spindle commanding via data
07:02 AM Tom_L: yeah that's what beachbumpete was facing
07:02 AM Tom_L: he may go back to analog for this
07:02 AM gonzo_: mine is all wired in now, just the HAL to do. So think that is the way it will go
07:02 AM gonzo_: it's easier to debug at least
07:03 AM Tom_L: i set the gain high on the 2nd pid but limit it's output so it snaps to max right away
07:06 AM Tom_L: later i'll take a snapshot of my signals and post it
07:07 AM Tom_L: the guy in the post is only using one pid
07:07 AM Tom_L: i'm using 2 as andy suggested and switching with mux2
07:08 AM Tom_L: all that seems to be working ok
07:08 AM Tom_L: motion.spindle-xxxx seems to be asleep or on strike
07:08 AM Tom_L: maybe none of the orient stuff goes thru that though
07:12 AM jthornton: I think only Andy understands the orient component
07:12 AM Tom_L: there is mention somewhere about orient being updated in 2.8
07:13 AM Tom_L: yeah i think he does
07:13 AM Tom_L: i've been waiting for him to show back up
07:14 AM Tom_L: i _think_ they may have added an orient-index signal or something like that
07:14 AM jthornton: I wonder if my BP spindle will turn slow enough to orient
07:14 AM Tom_L: mine spins up slow enough i think it'll be ok
07:15 AM Tom_L: i set it to max at 1000 which would be around 500rpm or so but it'll never get there in 1 rev
07:16 AM Tom_L: orient.x.is-oriented is the new signal apparently
07:16 AM Tom_L: in 2.8
07:17 AM Tom_L: i just need to get mine to turn, then i'll worry about position and stopping it
07:17 AM jthornton: AUTHOR Michael Haberler
07:17 AM Tom_L: yeah saw that
07:19 AM Tom_L: for this i wouldn't think you'd need to set an "S" word
07:19 AM Tom_L: i haven't been doing that since i'm testing all MDI
07:19 AM Tom_L: and not setting anything
07:19 AM Tom_L: just issue an M19 P command
07:20 AM Tom_L: i've got R set in the ini
07:27 AM Tom_L: https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/blob/master/configs/sim/axis/vismach/VMC_toolchange/spindle.hal
07:27 AM Tom_L: using that as a guide somewhat
07:28 AM jthornton: have you looked at the spindle orient sim?
07:28 AM Tom_L: i haven't loaded it but i've looked at it
07:29 AM Tom_L: that example rempas M6 and calls toolchange.ngc where M19 gets called first
07:30 AM Tom_L: toolchange.ngc looks pretty complete for a carousel
07:34 AM jthornton: nice it's 56F
07:41 AM jthornton: shower time
07:44 AM Tom_L: about the same here
07:44 AM Tom_L: pretty nice out
08:19 AM IchGucksLive: hi
08:22 AM mtpocketscnc: good morning
08:26 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
08:35 AM IchGucksLive: till later
09:08 AM yasnak: having issues with the bulletproof okuma today, tech keeps wanting me to replace with new 15k drive
09:09 AM yasnak: and i know its a bad wire somewhere. the top spindle wires would chaff from doing peck drilling and the vibrations. ugh
09:15 AM enleth: yasnak: won't it keep being broken after the swap if it's a wire?
09:23 AM yasnak: haha yes
09:23 AM yasnak: pulled the top wire harness box and see all these wires that have been rubbing. ugh
09:23 AM yasnak: no time, need to get up on another mill then deal with it
09:34 AM Loetmichel: seems to be a case of "wring wire for the job" if its not up to rubbing from peck drilling
09:34 AM Loetmichel: wrong
09:37 AM yasnak: yeah
09:40 AM enleth: might be fixable with a different/better harness and/or changing the loop radius
09:59 AM yasnak: nothing like finding the drive on ebay for $700.00
09:59 AM yasnak: haha
11:24 AM gloops is now known as Goodlord
11:27 AM Goodlord: slight pause at 9 oclock on circles
11:28 AM archivist: backlash
11:29 AM archivist: can also be machine twist/flex
11:29 AM archivist: loose gibs
12:17 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:31 PM miss0r: The mold for casting my cnc micro lathe is comming along nicely: http://picpaste.com/IMG_20170824_150955-tBJOdpdf.jpg
12:35 PM FinboySlick: miss0r: epoxy concrete?
12:36 PM miss0r: Yeah
12:39 PM FinboySlick: miss0r: I'm not sure I understand the design. Mobile spindle?
12:41 PM IchGucksLive: spindle can be refitet to othere tool
12:42 PM miss0r: basically the y axis is handled by the spindle moving.
12:42 PM miss0r: I've never liked the idea og stacking two axis on top of eachother
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: comen concept on XY table movement
12:43 PM miss0r: yeah. I just feel like i'm stacking backlash
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: agree and the dirt also likes to enter your flat
12:44 PM miss0r: I feel this will be better, as all the forces will be closer to the machine base as well
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: on old prisma railing
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: you got real tight
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: and with modern teflon plates it is friction optimised
12:45 PM miss0r: But I also believe that this design is only feasible on small machines. Noone wants to have the spindle move rapidly around with a 400pounds spinning object in it :]
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: not oil relevant
12:45 PM miss0r: hmm.
12:45 PM FinboySlick: Did you figure out your concrete mix yet?
12:46 PM miss0r: I must admit I have not completed the thought process about the way covers....
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: the hermle C30/50 is based on concrete
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: also the big C1200
12:46 PM miss0r: FinboySlick: Yeah. after a good talk with CaptHindsight. and some aditional reading online I came to a mixture
12:46 PM IchGucksLive: and it can handle 400kg part at Fmax
12:47 PM miss0r: IchGucksLive: yeah. Alot of the newer high-end machines utilize some sort of proprietary epoxy blend with eleven herbs and spices.
12:48 PM miss0r: All the steel parts in the mold are fitted into the mold - so when the casting is done, it will stick out 4mm. that way I can machine and grind the rail mounting points.
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: my youngest brothere is building one at the time with the people from University
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: but im not involved in building
12:49 PM miss0r: sucks :] You would love to, wouldn't ya?
12:52 PM IchGucksLive: no im making to many
12:52 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzMapKH8--elxd0LNhkaXPQ/videos
12:53 PM miss0r: so thats your brothers machine?
12:53 PM IchGucksLive: no
12:53 PM miss0r: or he is working on it atleast?
12:54 PM miss0r: Because, i've followed this build online. I don't like the way they mount the linear rails :] All that shimming... eeek
12:54 PM IchGucksLive: as you like
12:55 PM IchGucksLive: he dident ask at all as he dont like to put the 4 numbers into lcnc
12:55 PM IchGucksLive: he goes WIN
12:55 PM IchGucksLive: so im off the shop
12:56 PM miss0r: :-/
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: more and more people do ask on the youtube about gmoccapy
01:05 PM IchGucksLive: but i dont use it
01:06 PM IchGucksLive: only showedsome tricks and setup
01:07 PM hazzy2 is now known as hazzy
01:08 PM phiplii: weird
01:09 PM phiplii: the wifi video on my new quad works on my tablet, but not my phone
01:09 PM phiplii: both running android 7.1.2
01:09 PM phiplii: irritating because I can't fly and hold my tablet at the same time
01:10 PM IchGucksLive: phiplii: there are mounts for both
01:13 PM phiplii: I'm sure I could mount it, but if my phone worked it would be already sorted
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: control and view on one item is not the best to go
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: or is there a quad standalone controler
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: did you enable wifidirect
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: it might be only available if you hit 7times dev
01:16 PM phiplii: There is a phone mount on the physical controller I'm using
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: with light shield
01:17 PM phiplii: nope
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: sunlightr
01:17 PM phiplii: It cost about $40
01:17 PM phiplii: so it isn't exactly the fanciest thing
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: :p
01:17 PM phiplii: :)
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: it works
01:17 PM IchGucksLive: so it is ok
01:17 PM phiplii: yeah - they've come on so much
01:18 PM phiplii: video is better than my last video quad
01:18 PM phiplii: stabilisation is better
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: here in germany you will be in big trouble
01:18 PM phiplii: it is light enough to be considered a toy here
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: so search around on your phone modell how to connect
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: with quad connection data
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
01:57 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: You around?
01:58 PM CaptHindsight: not really, leave a message after the beep and I'll get back to you
01:59 PM miss0r: heh. I was just wondering about this epoxy casting. What are your thoughts on doing the casting in several steps? for making it easier to manage
02:03 PM CaptHindsight: fresh epoxy will crosslink to cured epoxy, just not as much as if it's all done at once
02:04 PM miss0r: what do you feel about giving me a rough estimate about the loss of strength? (your gut feeling)
02:12 PM CaptHindsight: cast the heads of two bolts separately leaving a flat area to bond them
02:13 PM CaptHindsight: compare that strength to casting the two heads at the same time
02:14 PM XXCoder: I wonder if top was sanded, would it crosslink better?
02:14 PM CaptHindsight: the answer is it depends on lots of factors
02:21 PM miss0r: hehe :] I feel safer already. I have alot of steel in this conscruction as well. What could possibly go wrong ? :D *sigh*
02:37 PM teo_: which is the password on root terminal ctr - alt - f2 to write as a root ?
02:37 PM teo_: on linuxcnc wheezly last version ?
02:44 PM JT-Shop: whatever password you used when you installed it
02:51 PM teo_: i dident put passworn on install
02:52 PM teo_: debian and next nothing
02:52 PM XXCoder: most linux distro you cannot choose nothing for root password.
02:52 PM teo_: ok, and how cai i run as super user with root terminal ?
02:53 PM XXCoder: sudo <command> <parameters?
02:53 PM XXCoder: sudo <command> <parameters>
02:54 PM teo_: login with my name and my password on txt mode (ctr-alt -f2 ) ?
02:54 PM XXCoder: can just open window term
02:55 PM teo_: ok
02:56 PM teo_: i run "sudo aptitude install nvidia-settings"
02:56 PM teo_: and then i have conflicts : nvidia-settings but 303.88-1 is to be installed
02:58 PM teo_: and conflicts : xserver-xorg-video-nvidia but 173.14.35-4 is installed
02:58 PM teo_: what is mean this ?????
02:59 PM XXCoder: not too sure
03:00 PM teo_: error
03:00 PM teo_: and then i have conflicts : nvidia-settings but 304.88-1 is to be installed is the correct
03:00 PM teo_: and conflicts : xserver-xorg-video-nvidia but 304.131-1 is installed
03:01 PM teo_: what is mean this ?????
03:02 PM XXCoder: it's conflicting with version that is already installed
03:02 PM XXCoder: but not sure how to resolve that
03:07 PM Crom: The mini ITX board my lcnc is runnng on is crapping out... time for a new MB... Damn VA where's my MONEY!
03:15 PM * JT-Shop needs a mini itx case and power supply
03:26 PM miss0r: First pour went as planned: http://picpaste.com/IMG_20170824_214936-G84oFrrX.jpg
03:26 PM Tom_L: JT-Shop, i've got 2 of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/APEX-MI-008-Black-Steel-Mini-ITX-Tower-Computer-Case-250W-Power-Supply-/301380742603?hash=item462bb12dcb:g:sLQAAOxyhSBSA~97
03:26 PM miss0r: CaptHindsight: I did the bolt test, and it was PLENTY strong. so I decided on doing it in steps, to help me ensure I got it to set properly in all the contours
03:28 PM Tom_L: i mounted the hdd on the side but there's a bay for 3.5 if that's what you have
03:28 PM miss0r: The only thing that is not ideal, is the type of crushed granit i'm using. It has a nasty tendancy to interlock with itself(basically what it is designed to do). So I'm hoping for the best here :]
03:28 PM Tom_L: mine came with a 2.5 adapter
03:28 PM Tom_L: mount adapter that is
03:31 PM JT-Shop: Tom_L: I have one of those too but it's too small for the mini itx mb
03:31 PM Tom_L: that's what it's made for
03:32 PM Tom_L: i put my D525 and the atom itx in one
03:33 PM JT-Shop: yea a fanless will fit this one has a honker of a fan for the cpu lol
03:33 PM Tom_L: ahh
03:33 PM Tom_L: get one that don't need no stinkin fan :)
03:34 PM JT-Shop: server motherboard needs a bit of processing power
03:34 PM Tom_L: yeah that's true
03:35 PM Loetmichel: tip: if you can use a fanless design on LinuxCNC PCs if they are in the workshop
03:36 PM Loetmichel: ... had to get about 2 pounds of sawdust out of the CNC PC of an ex-boss once ;)
03:36 PM Loetmichel: sawdust+ GF+CF dust
04:32 PM Deejay: gn8
04:50 PM Crom: heh true on dust.. I have polyfill acting as filters on my intakes on my mostly fanless mini itx
05:04 PM seb_kuzm1nsky is now known as seb_kuzminsky
05:15 PM Goodlord: what plastic is used for printing plastic injection molds?
05:21 PM JT-Shop: steel
05:21 PM JT-Shop: tool steel actually
05:37 PM Goodlord: that cant be printed
06:00 PM JT-Shop: neither can an injection mold
06:02 PM cpresser: there is a diy-process: https://formlabs.com/de/injection-molding/
06:02 PM cpresser: suitable for prototyping.
06:06 PM Goodlord: i saw some stuff on youtube where higher melting point plastic was used to make injection molds
06:07 PM Goodlord: i was thinking of making some from aluminium - would be easier to print if that is really viable
06:07 PM JT-Shop: only believe about 10% of putube vids lol
06:08 PM Goodlord: i was a bit sceptical, but not that knowledgable about plastics
06:09 PM Goodlord: cpresser - cant read the german
06:09 PM JT-Shop: even if you could "print" a mold the part would not separate from the mold due to the poor finish of printing leaving nooks and such
06:09 PM cpresser: Goodlord: switch de with en in the url
06:10 PM JT-Shop: I do a lot of work at plastic injection plants...
06:12 PM Goodlord: how about aluminium JT?
06:12 PM JT-Shop: you could make a few parts with aluminum
06:14 PM JT-Shop: I've been wanting to make a small injection mold press with a hydraulic jack for a few parts
06:14 PM Goodlord: for small widget kind of things, a few pence each, you would need a mold that can produce many thousands
06:14 PM Goodlord: for it to be worth making the mold
06:15 PM Goodlord: yeah ive been looking at making a small injection machine myself
08:46 PM Tom_shop: where do you go in lcnc to get the "parameter entry mode" for lack of a bette term...
08:46 PM Tom_shop: does that launch when you launch lcnc from a terminal window?
08:46 PM Tom_shop: ie setp this_var 1
09:50 PM pcw_home: Tom_shop:
09:50 PM pcw_home: halcmd setp some_old_pin true
09:51 PM Tom_L: where would i setp the index-enable signal to clear it?
09:52 PM pcw_home: sets the signal
09:52 PM Tom_L: if i put it in the hal file though, when does it execute?
09:52 PM pcw_home: normally its set by motion and cleared by the encoder
09:52 PM Tom_L: i need it to execute when orient.enable is true i think
09:52 PM Tom_L: right
09:53 PM pcw_home: you would never want to clear it AFAIK
09:53 PM Tom_L: i'm reading an old post of yours that suggests they manually setp the signal
09:53 PM pcw_home: thats for testing index
09:53 PM Tom_L: encoder.x.index-enable
09:53 PM Tom_L: i believe
09:54 PM Tom_L: i'm just wondering if it would trigger motion to do something
09:54 PM pcw_home: you can't setp the signal if its linked so its easier to "sets spindle-index-enable true"
09:55 PM pcw_home: you can't setp the pin I mean
09:55 PM Tom_L: never heard of sets :)
09:55 PM pcw_home: set signal
09:55 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/configs/screenshots/M19_R10_P1.png
09:55 PM Tom_L: that's currently what's going on when M19 is issued
09:56 PM Tom_L: there are .png there for M3 M4 and TxM6 as well
09:57 PM Tom_itx: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuration/27897-spindle-index-enable-not-triggering
09:57 PM Tom_itx: the old forum post
09:58 PM Tom_itx: i realize the software has likely changed since then
10:00 PM Tom_L: i would be curious what he changed from orient to orientv2 in the other package
10:29 PM twincreek: Wow, guy on FB said to find you guys on IRC. I was taken back to 1993. lol
10:30 PM twincreek: I'm looking for guidence on selecting a simplist method of text engraving in linuxcnc. I found some old info on Features but it looks like that is a dead project? Can anyone clarify or sudjest another?
10:34 PM pcw_home: Its active but has changed its name to NativeCAM
10:39 PM twincreek: thats perfect. thank you
11:02 PM cradek: you might also like truetype-tracer, which is quite featured and works from the command line, not a gui
11:20 PM tiwake: inkscape has a G-code plugin thing
11:20 PM tiwake: donno if its any good
11:20 PM tiwake: but it exists
11:22 PM tiwake: doesn't freecad have a thing too?
11:22 PM tiwake: might be on the roadmap
11:28 PM twincreek: just watching some freecad videos, looks like its in there but it doesnt look like it gives you the ability to centerline the text, it wants to trace inner and outer edges. not so great for a v bit.
11:28 PM twincreek: thanks for the other options, i'll check them out too
