01:13 AM cncnoob: Hey guys. Trying to figure out how much a part is going to weight. It is going to be cut out of cast iron (an old tractor suitcase weight), but Solid Works has 5 types of cast iron which give me a total of 3 different weights. Any idea what type of cast iron a suitcase weight is made of? Choices are Ductile Iron, Gray Cast Iron, and Malleable C
01:15 AM cncnoob: ast Iron.
01:15 AM cncnoob: Suitcase weight -> http://www.homedepot.com/p/John-Deere-Rear-Weight-BG20029/100608539?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-AllProducts%7c&gclid=Cj0KCQjwierMBRCHARIsAHl9i4FOHOGeiTx4Hn_rCTFXG2O48Q6SBJd06QVj_V3kAPfstMPk07VYRokaAsgoEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CISmg_CP6tUCFVKxTwodOL0Edg
01:21 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
01:22 AM IchGucksLive: cncnoob: still here
01:25 AM IchGucksLive: the main calculation is on 7.85gramm per qcm OR 7.85kg per qdm thats 10cm cube
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: cncnoob: so let solid do the Volum and calculate your self
01:29 AM archivist: IchGucksLive, you should read the question
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: cncnoob: for solidworks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oi67kHEDjc
01:30 AM IchGucksLive: Trying to figure out how much a part is going to weight
01:30 AM cncnoob: here
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: cncnoob use water as material by cutting a volum of the vlock
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: Block
01:31 AM IchGucksLive: like shown in the video
01:32 AM archivist: he just does not read the questions properly, wrong answer
01:32 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 school teatching wrong things ;-)
01:34 AM archivist: cncnoob, if you have one drill it you can tell grey cast from the others by the chips and how it machines
01:35 AM cncnoob: Archivist, thanks
01:35 AM cncnoob: What would the differences be in how they machine? Maybe I can find a youtube video
01:36 AM archivist: but the foundry may have used anything to hand
01:38 AM archivist: malleable/ductile will be a shinier chip less broken, than grey whish will be grey with powder filings
01:38 AM archivist: which
01:39 AM archivist: they may even use steel left over in a crucible
01:41 AM cncnoob: Yeah, I doubt they would want to spend much money since it is literally just dead weight. Looks like gray iron is the cheapest. I'll just assume worst case which is malleable cast iron. It is about 3% heavier
01:41 AM archivist: is the weight that critical?
01:42 AM cncnoob: Yeah, I'm making a mounting plate/adapter for my new spindle motor
01:42 AM archivist: I did make a cast iron pendulum bob some years ago where it was hollow with mercury inside to temperature compensate
01:43 AM cncnoob: wow
01:43 AM archivist: I dont see why the weight matters for a mount
01:43 AM cncnoob: My only dealing with mercury is of the Ford variety
01:43 AM cncnoob: The new spindle motor is considerably heavier than the old motor
01:43 AM archivist: and 3% is tiny error
01:44 AM cncnoob: True
01:44 AM cncnoob: But every bit will count I think because I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to keep the weight at or under the current weight
01:44 AM cncnoob: Don't want to kill my stepper motor
01:44 AM cncnoob: or reduce Z axis speed
01:44 AM archivist: http://www.collection.archivist.info/searchv13.php?searchstr=cast+pendulum
01:45 AM archivist: used a spun cast iron there
01:45 AM cncnoob: awesome
01:46 AM cncnoob: I've been diggin' through your pics in my spare time(tm)
01:46 AM archivist: how much extra weight is the new motor
01:46 AM cncnoob: trying to get ideas :)
01:46 AM cncnoob: I forgot, but I have it written down
01:46 AM cncnoob: some where
01:46 AM cncnoob: I'll be replacing this
01:46 AM cncnoob: http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1487&category=
01:46 AM cncnoob: with my new mount
01:47 AM cncnoob: the new mount will bolt to this
01:47 AM cncnoob: http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=1498&category=
01:47 AM archivist: are you having it cast to get the hollow
01:48 AM cncnoob: no
01:48 AM cncnoob: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-2kw-spindle-kit-220v-380V-80mm-2200w-CNC-milling-spindle-motor-2-2kw-inverter-80mm/32720250683.html
01:48 AM cncnoob: See the clamp that comes with that kit
01:48 AM cncnoob: The cast aluminum one
01:48 AM cncnoob: I purchased an additional one of those
01:49 AM cncnoob: So the new mount will just be flat on the front and will accept two of those clamps
01:55 AM cncnoob: well I'm off to bed. I'll send a pic of the drafted part before I cut it to get some constructive feedback. Thanks for your help!

04:33 AM lexalex83: hello everybody
04:34 AM lexalex83: is it only english speakers here?
04:39 AM gonzo_: mostly egnlish spoken, but many nationalities
04:58 AM XXCoder: yeah pretty many here has english as second language. like me
05:30 AM jthornton: morning
05:35 AM XXCoder: jthornton: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/880456201/cubiio-the-most-compact-laser-engraver
05:35 AM XXCoder: insane
05:40 AM jthornton: you'll put your eye out lol
05:41 AM XXCoder: lol
05:41 AM XXCoder: I can imange some guy using this to engrave restroom wall.
05:41 AM XXCoder: realistic rendered penis that cannot be erased
05:41 AM jthornton: lol
05:42 AM XXCoder: around here symbols of hatred is pretty rare but I bet it would be used for that too
05:54 AM mrme_ is now known as mrme
05:57 AM archivist: lexalex83, your english looks ok anyway
06:04 AM jthornton: yea a cold front is passing through today and tonight and the temps are dropping to 60f at night and 80f for the high
06:05 AM XXCoder: nice
06:05 AM XXCoder: I was so glad cold front recently passed here and pushed all that smoke out
06:05 AM XXCoder: its been nice and clear skies since
06:20 AM lexalex83: XXCoder, did you tryed to make your own CNC anytime?
06:21 AM lexalex83: i am building my one in my garage now. and have some problems with ajustment of Z axis
06:22 AM lexalex83: i can not understand why it is stack..
06:24 AM archivist: a number in here have self built
06:24 AM archivist: varies from kits to scratch built fugly
06:25 AM archivist: stuck?
06:26 AM lexalex83: trig
06:27 AM archivist: not sure what you are asking
06:27 AM lexalex83: jamming
06:27 AM archivist: sticking/stuck
06:27 AM lexalex83: my english not so good (
06:27 AM archivist: dont worry
06:30 AM lexalex83: probably thats becourse of misaligment rails and screw
06:37 AM lexalex83: archivist may be you can show your cnc?
06:40 AM Tom_L: JT-Shop, yeah that front passed thru but now it's just hot _and_ muggy
06:43 AM jthornton: yea not going to cool down until tomorrow
06:44 AM archivist: lexalex83, when it was 4 axis http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/DJCPD/PD/2008/2008_10_07_Richards_of_Burton_clockworks/P1010199.JPG
06:45 AM archivist: made from and old lathe and an XY table off a tool microscope
06:46 AM lexalex83: wow
06:46 AM archivist: later as 5 axis http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/DJCPD/PD/2009/2009_08_15_Watch_verge_escape_cnc/IMG_0276.JPG
06:47 AM lexalex83: i goint to build 3 axis portal cnc
06:47 AM lexalex83: i going to build 3 axis portal cnc
06:49 AM lexalex83: do you have buisness with your cnc machine?
06:50 AM archivist: I sometimes make small gears with it
06:52 AM lexalex83: for what
06:55 AM archivist: clocks/watches, speedo's etc
06:56 AM archivist: http://gears.archivist.info/gears/IMG_1214_hires.JPG
06:56 AM lexalex83: are you watchmaker
06:57 AM archivist: only as far as replacement parts http://gears.archivist.info/P1010320_hires.JPG
06:57 AM lexalex83: very small
08:34 AM Frank____: hi guys, anyone knows how to accurately scale a spindle on the ini file? my vel max is 18000rpm and min 1500rpm what should i add to spindle scale to output accordingly?
08:35 AM Frank____: most of the info on the forum is with encoders
08:36 AM archivist: it may not be linear so will not be that accurate
08:36 AM Frank____: as far as i know the vfd outputs linearly
08:36 AM Frank____: the setting is setup that way at least..
08:37 AM Frank____: maybe i should just put min vel rpm to 0 and thats that
08:37 AM Frank____: the vfd wont do less than 24 hz thou
08:37 AM Frank____: (by parameters)
08:39 AM sync_: without feedback you can never be sure as your spindle is an async motor usually
08:49 AM teo_: /join #debian
11:39 AM Chillum is now known as HighInBC
12:22 PM IchGucksLive: hi from germany
01:12 PM teo_: at channel #debian all its say this :linuxcnc-2.7-wheezy is not debian and the "sudo uname -r " is not debian kernel ....
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: teo_: what is the problem to be solved
01:14 PM teo_: i want to install a old nvidia graphics card nvidia-kernel-legacy-173xx-dkms_173.14.35-4_i386
01:14 PM cpresser: teo_: indeed, it is not 'vanilla' debian. packages are build from the linuxcnc community ro run on a debian system
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: teo_: why the nvidia driver on a realtime kernal
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: use Nouveau driver
01:16 PM teo_: for now i have broken pixel graphics to my pc
01:16 PM IchGucksLive: ok so what Gcard is on the system
01:17 PM teo_: nvidia gforce fx 5600
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: ok
01:18 PM IchGucksLive: are you on the system
01:19 PM teo_: i make format for now, on 5-7 minutes iam ready (3 format on 3 days)
01:19 PM teo_: but tell me and i write your words
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: why only the driver
01:19 PM IchGucksLive: nuts
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: teo_: is it a standard pc or a notebook
01:20 PM teo_: notebook
01:20 PM teo_: acers aspire 1700
01:21 PM teo_: 17" screen pentioum 4 3.06 mhz
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: then the wheezy is the non recomented you shoudt use a 12.04 ubuntu linuxcnc as nvidia is suportet on ubuntu-drivers
01:21 PM teo_: it work with mini cnc
01:21 PM IchGucksLive: but we can get this
01:22 PM teo_: 12.04 ubuntou it dident have inside linuxcnc emc ,,,,, i have and ubuntou 10,04
01:23 PM teo_: and wheezy its work good
01:24 PM teo_: for now iam like wheezy.
01:24 PM IchGucksLive: ok so why did you format the system dident it show up after graphics install
01:25 PM IchGucksLive: or even graphics change
01:25 PM teo_: after fresh install the graphics is very bad , i cant read the letters.
01:26 PM IchGucksLive: did yopu try to open a terminal by ALT+F2
01:26 PM teo_: i try this to install the gcard https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#wheezy-173xx
01:26 PM teo_: yes i have a terminal
01:27 PM Guest94747 is now known as McBride36
01:27 PM IchGucksLive: you kow you are in xfree not in a gui invirerment
01:27 PM teo_: you kow you are in xfree not in a gui invirerment >> what is mean this ?
01:28 PM teo_: is xfree and not debian ...right ?
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: gforce is to be made for a desktop standard you are running a low latency xfce desk
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: so you need a non-free driver setup
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: the normal nvidia-drivers will not work
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: as you are on a jessy based system
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: "/etc/apt/sources.list
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: put this 2 lines in
01:30 PM teo_: yes i know that, i want to install proprietary nvidia driver from the debian
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: deb http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: deb-src http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get update
01:31 PM teo_: ok
01:31 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get install nvidia-driver
01:32 PM teo_: 2 is the lines or 3 ?
01:32 PM IchGucksLive: and keep fingers crossed for responding
01:32 PM teo_: i know for 3
01:32 PM IchGucksLive: 2
01:32 PM teo_: wait wait
01:32 PM IchGucksLive: sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
01:33 PM teo_: on "/etc/apt/sources.list
01:33 PM teo_: the users on #debian tald to me for # on the lines with src
01:33 PM IchGucksLive: respond woudt be somthing -> Installing to /lib/modules/xxxxxxx/updates/dkms/
01:34 PM IchGucksLive: what if Conflicting nouveau kernel module loaded
01:35 PM IchGucksLive: Reboot
01:35 PM teo_: Please we can present the topics of one one?
01:35 PM teo_: 1st topic
01:35 PM IchGucksLive: did you open etc/apt/sources.list
01:36 PM teo_: yes
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: put in
01:36 PM teo_: 6 lines inside now
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: deb http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: deb-src http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
01:36 PM teo_: 3 deb and 3 deb-src
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: close the file
01:37 PM teo_: my 6 lines with # ?
01:37 PM IchGucksLive: keep all in side just copy the 2 beond
01:38 PM teo_: the 2 your lines jessie main contrib non-free or wheezly main contrib non-free?
01:38 PM IchGucksLive: yes
01:39 PM teo_: wheezly main contrib non-free?
01:39 PM IchGucksLive: no
01:39 PM IchGucksLive: jessi
01:39 PM IchGucksLive: yust copy
01:39 PM IchGucksLive: no change
01:40 PM teo_: ou are sure earth because the system is wheezlly ...
01:40 PM IchGucksLive: its debian 8
01:40 PM IchGucksLive: no matter the distro is called
01:40 PM teo_: ok
01:40 PM teo_: 6 lines and 2 yours ,, 8 lines final
01:41 PM teo_: this topic off
01:41 PM teo_: after
01:41 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get update
01:41 PM teo_: sudo apt-get update ?
01:41 PM teo_: yes
01:41 PM teo_: after
01:41 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get install nvidia-driver
01:42 PM teo_: from synaptic or from terminal .... terminal is better for this ?
01:42 PM IchGucksLive: if dkms installs please look for version number
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: terminal
01:43 PM teo_: ok, do you have nvidia and you know all this ?
01:43 PM IchGucksLive: yes
01:43 PM teo_: ok
01:44 PM teo_: after apt-get update
01:44 PM teo_: apt-get install nvidia-driver
01:44 PM IchGucksLive: with root
01:44 PM teo_: with root .... example ?
01:45 PM IchGucksLive: root is sudo
01:45 PM teo_: :) yes
01:45 PM teo_: sudo apt-get install nvidia-driver
01:45 PM IchGucksLive: yes
01:46 PM teo_: after
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: it shoudt install now
01:46 PM teo_: after ?
01:46 PM IchGucksLive: nvidia-driver (xx.xx-2)
01:47 PM teo_: nouveau ?
01:47 PM IchGucksLive: ? is the nevou removed during or conflicting
01:47 PM teo_: how cai i see the nevou removed during or conflicting ?
01:48 PM IchGucksLive: terminal will say
01:48 PM teo_: how?
01:48 PM teo_: lspci -vnn ?
01:48 PM IchGucksLive: Conflicting nouveau kernel module loaded
01:49 PM teo_: ok
01:49 PM teo_: all this i write
01:49 PM IchGucksLive: if no conflict
01:49 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get install nvidia-xconfig
01:50 PM IchGucksLive: After the installation is finished execute -> nvidia-xconfig in new terminal
01:50 PM teo_: wait
01:50 PM teo_: 2 last times
01:50 PM IchGucksLive: you are done if it responses New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf
01:51 PM IchGucksLive: then setup your system as nvidia-settings
01:51 PM teo_: yes ok
01:51 PM teo_: all this ok BUT
01:51 PM teo_: last to times last to format when execute -> nvidia-xconfig in new terminal
01:52 PM teo_: New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf
01:52 PM teo_: i reeboot the system and the blinking cursor is up left
01:52 PM teo_: i press control alt f2
01:52 PM teo_: root terminal
01:53 PM teo_: and after that i dident have xserver
01:53 PM teo_: and the graphics
01:53 PM teo_: on the net it say
01:54 PM teo_: But if you can edit, but DONT run "nvidia-xconfig" If you run your system not boot anymore, because newer xorg don’t need it.
01:55 PM teo_: what about blacklist of nauveau ?
01:55 PM IchGucksLive: you arent in a gui conf invirerment like GNOME
01:56 PM IchGucksLive: xfce is different
01:56 PM IchGucksLive: ok familie is calling im off for today its late in Germany
01:57 PM IchGucksLive: if it fails you can remove the driver at boot from grub to invirerment recovery mode
01:57 PM IchGucksLive: apt-get purge nvidia-xxx
01:57 PM IchGucksLive: the xxx is the nuumber you shoudt right down from install
01:57 PM teo_: and if i remove and after again is not start in xserver
01:58 PM teo_: ok thanks you
01:58 PM teo_: go for today
01:58 PM teo_: tommorow same time iam here
01:58 PM IchGucksLive: if there is no nvidia it will use nnouveau
01:58 PM IchGucksLive: if you dont black it out
01:59 PM teo_: how can i enable nouveau from teminal ?
01:59 PM IchGucksLive: by uninstalling the Gdriver that is used
01:59 PM IchGucksLive: nouveau = VGA
01:59 PM IchGucksLive: in MS
02:00 PM IchGucksLive: Gn8
02:28 PM hazzy2 is now known as hazzy
03:41 PM gloops is now known as Goodlord
03:42 PM Goodlord: laser looks pretty easy to build
03:43 PM Goodlord: is there any cash in laser work though?
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: depends
03:47 PM CaptHindsight: if you can cut things well suited to laser that are larger than what may be cut with a low cost laser, then maybe
03:48 PM CaptHindsight: buy vs sub out work
03:49 PM XXCoder: or sell your own artwork
03:50 PM CaptHindsight: https://sourceforge.net/p/emc/mailman/message/36007599/ maybe he's going to rout houses out of large blocks of wood?
03:50 PM XXCoder: 150' dang
03:52 PM Goodlord: yes selling own work would be preferable
03:52 PM Goodlord: i dont want clients
03:53 PM Goodlord: you have a point though Capt, small lasers are everywhere
03:53 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: honestly better to prefab frames and such for house not out of super duper expensive single block of woods.
03:53 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: Swiss Cheese with really big holes?
03:54 PM Goodlord: wheres he going to sheets that size?
03:54 PM XXCoder: Goodlord: good question
03:55 PM Goodlord: he could load 3 8x4 sheets a time though
03:55 PM CaptHindsight: pour in place styrofoam then rout
03:56 PM XXCoder: Goodlord: its 150 feet
03:56 PM CaptHindsight: or jello sculptures
03:56 PM Goodlord: oh 150 feet, i thought inches lol
03:56 PM CaptHindsight: he didn't elaborate on the materials
03:56 PM XXCoder: indeed
03:57 PM XXCoder: or maybe ice for GIANT ice stucptures
03:57 PM Goodlord: at 600ipm thats only 3 minutes a pass
03:57 PM CaptHindsight: maybe it's really a 3d printer
03:58 PM Goodlord: sounds more like an overhead crane
03:58 PM CaptHindsight: Giant Yoda Heads
04:10 PM CaptHindsight: meal time vs laundry time
04:11 PM CaptHindsight: I'm surprised they haven't combined laundromat with restaurant, there are few that are bars
04:15 PM XXCoder: laundromat with bar and resyaurant, as well as motel rooms for those extra long washing sessions
04:16 PM XXCoder: even better: motel that has washer and dryer with unlimited use while staying there, and food and drinks order-ins. lol
04:16 PM CaptHindsight: http://vitamarg.com/f/foto2/3068-04.jpg
04:17 PM CaptHindsight: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/65/aa/90/65aa9085fac794ec4c9d369be39024cb--food-cravings-pains.jpg
04:18 PM XXCoder: high style.
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: printed bacon
04:18 PM Goodlord: small 3d printers cant be very lucrative either
04:18 PM Goodlord: cant compete with injection moulding
04:18 PM CaptHindsight: not so much anymore
04:19 PM XXCoder: Goodlord: injection molds is very expensive
04:19 PM CaptHindsight: it can in lower volumes few K's
04:19 PM XXCoder: 3d printing is great for one offs or few-offs
04:19 PM Goodlord: yeah that would be its forte, or for forms that cant be moulded i suppose
04:20 PM CaptHindsight: Yoda heads
04:21 PM CaptHindsight: they aren't possible to produce by any other means
04:22 PM Goodlord: now you mention it, i have seen the same yoda head stl in every cnc facebook group ive been in, at least twice a week
04:22 PM CaptHindsight: sshhh
04:23 PM XXCoder: Goodlord: I have 3 rings, one inside another. it cannot be cast, injected, nor milled in any form.
04:23 PM XXCoder: I think welding together it is possible but it wont be smooth
04:24 PM Goodlord: manifested as a yoda tree spirit, yoda stepper motor cover, yoda head toilet roll holder etc
04:24 PM XXCoder: other weird trope is buddha with head of something else, like dalek
04:25 PM Deejay: gn8
04:26 PM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1718040 if ya wanna print it lol
04:26 PM Goodlord: XXCoder what is the function of the 3 rings?
04:26 PM XXCoder: hand toy
04:27 PM XXCoder: its really basis of gimel bearing, it allows it to move around in limited sphere for crossing
04:27 PM XXCoder: but printable one is toy
04:28 PM Goodlord: well you gotta make them fast to make any cash
04:28 PM CaptHindsight: _methods: what was the dumbest thing you ever found on Thingiverse? :)
04:28 PM _methods: ohhhhh
04:28 PM XXCoder: CaptHindsight: btw there IS a yoda buddha.
04:28 PM _methods: so much
04:28 PM _methods: hard to pick
04:28 PM XXCoder: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1615555
04:28 PM _methods: maybe the xman outfit thing
04:29 PM CaptHindsight: I could not find it
04:29 PM _methods: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:199786
04:29 PM XXCoder: Goodlord: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:320853
04:30 PM CaptHindsight: LOL thanks
04:30 PM CaptHindsight: his pose is just perfect
04:30 PM Goodlord: XXCoder that is printed as is? with clearances?
04:31 PM XXCoder: yep
04:31 PM Goodlord: thats pretty good
04:31 PM XXCoder: heres my make https://www.thingiverse.com/make:253767
04:31 PM CaptHindsight: _methods: can you imagine his fan fiction version film?
04:31 PM _methods: there is a whole crew of them
04:32 PM _methods: there's a picture somewhere on dingiverse with all of them together
04:32 PM _methods: in their window licker costumes
04:33 PM XXCoder: time to work laters
04:43 PM teo_: iam on a very slow server, how can i stop the update ?
04:43 PM teo_: without broken my system ?
04:43 PM teo_: 2 days installls ?
04:45 PM Goodlord: wow, you shouldnt need a calendar to measure update time lol
04:45 PM teo_: one person here he say to put
04:45 PM teo_: <IchGucksLive> deb http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free [06:50] <IchGucksLive> deb-src http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
04:45 PM teo_: this lines
04:46 PM teo_: and i update
04:46 PM teo_: i have wheezly
04:46 PM teo_: and i put this
04:46 PM teo_: 6 lines my + 2 this
04:46 PM teo_: update
04:46 PM Goodlord: #debian might be able to explain
04:50 PM Goodlord: if you join the channel #debian i mean
04:50 PM CaptHindsight: #debian gets upset if you ask about debian but installed with a LCNC installer
04:51 PM CaptHindsight: so don't mention LCNC
05:01 PM Tom_itx: apparently newer releases split their distribution into free and non free packages so you need those lines to add back in the non free packages
05:01 PM Tom_itx: save yourself a trip to #debian
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: I haven't tried installing Debian with a Debian ISO and then adding LCNC and then asking questions in #debian
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: that might be the safe way
05:05 PM Goodlord: debian seems a strange choice of platform for linuxcnc, why not just use ubuntu ?
05:06 PM Goodlord: which everyone already has
05:06 PM Tom_itx: they used to
05:06 PM Tom_itx: i don't remember why they chose to go with debian
05:06 PM Tom_itx: maybe something to do with the rtai support
05:07 PM Tom_itx: i added similar lines to my wheezy install
05:09 PM Goodlord: mines not online anyway yet
05:09 PM Tom_itx: https://serverfault.com/questions/240920/how-do-i-enable-non-free-packages-on-debian
05:09 PM Tom_itx: you'll try to install something eventually and get an error
05:10 PM Tom_itx: or it won't be in the package manager list
05:16 PM uwe__ is now known as uwe_
05:31 PM Tom_itx: CaptHindsight you should try that sometime and savor the reaction
05:34 PM Tom_itx: so i was talking to a guy today that drove from Houston up to Nebraska for the "event"
05:34 PM Tom_itx: apparently he's a NASA contractor and thought it would be 'cool'
05:39 PM Tom_itx: wonder how many of those guys missed work
05:42 PM teo_: where can i find the last version of emc ?
05:43 PM Tom_itx: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-started/getting-linuxcnc.html
05:43 PM Tom_itx: or do you want the master developement branch?
05:43 PM _methods: https://twitter.com/aoighost/status/899767947702521856
05:43 PM _methods: heheh
05:43 PM _methods: reboot damn you
05:44 PM teo_: can i install on debian streche 9 ?
05:44 PM Tom_itx: yes, i'm not sure it's an official release yet but it's out there
05:45 PM Tom_itx: and it's preempt only, no RTAI
05:45 PM Tom_itx: so it may or may not work ok on your laptop
05:46 PM Tom_itx: http://www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/
07:13 PM Tom_L: ok all my spindle stops work like they're supposed to now
07:13 PM Tom_L: spindle drive inhibit works on M3, M4 and M5 now
07:18 PM BeachBumPete: awesome
07:20 PM Tom_L: figured i'd fix it while i was there
07:20 PM Tom_L: maybe i can start on orient now
07:45 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRO98Rm58-k&feature=youtu.be what the big machine is (from the discussion earlier)
07:45 PM CaptHindsight: LCNC is a bit of overkill
07:46 PM CaptHindsight: but it's similar to applications where openSCADA + LCNC could work together
07:46 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
07:47 PM CaptHindsight: but man I could do it with GRBL and a few *duinos
07:48 PM Tom_L: is it using lcnc?
07:48 PM Tom_L: what happens if i go move a box sideways?
07:48 PM CaptHindsight: no, but thats what the 150' x 150 x 50' machine is about on the ML
07:49 PM Tom_L: or an earthquake jiggles all the boxes a bit...
07:49 PM CaptHindsight: GRBL + *duino anti-jigger :)
07:50 PM Tom_L: thanks for your help btw
07:50 PM Tom_L: at least i got things back where they were 2 weeks ago now :)
07:50 PM Tom_L: oh and i fixed the spindle stop from slamming
07:50 PM Tom_L: there was one particular case where it would slam
07:51 PM Tom_L: and i figured out lut5 :)
07:52 PM CaptHindsight: at least it wasn't like Black being V+ and Red being Ground
07:52 PM Tom_L: i've never use din mount relays obviously
07:52 PM CaptHindsight: like somebodu in China on their first day or work at the power supply factory decided to just use whatever color wire was handy :)
07:53 PM CaptHindsight: they come in handy
07:54 PM CaptHindsight: holds things in place without fasteners
07:55 PM Tom_L: picked up a couple more fuse holders today too
07:56 PM CaptHindsight: JT's store has some for pretty cheap
07:56 PM Tom_L: really?
07:56 PM Tom_L: where?
07:56 PM Tom_L: i think i have enough now though
07:56 PM Tom_L: these are also din mount
07:57 PM CaptHindsight: https://mesaus.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=74_75
07:58 PM Tom_L: wish i knew that before
08:00 PM Tom_L: or even the circuit breakers
08:01 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.wolfautomation.com/products/circuit-breakers/standard_stock
08:02 PM Tom_L: i'm not gonna change it now
08:04 PM Tom_L: i'll fiddle with this orient code later on and maybe test it tomorrow again
08:05 PM Tom_L: time for some R$R
11:22 PM codepython777: has anyone here used https://chinalaser.en.alibaba.com/product/60490982374-213533709/G_Weike_co2_laser_engraver_cutter_machine_LC1390N_Price.html - or knows how I can use it with software that works in English? :)
11:27 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.wklaser.com/index.php?l=2 english website
11:28 PM CaptHindsight: they aren't that complicated
11:29 PM CaptHindsight: compatible software : CorelDraw AutoCAD Photoshop
11:29 PM CaptHindsight: Supported graphics format : BMP, PLT, DST, DXF, and AI
11:36 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: have you used these machines by any chance?
11:38 PM CaptHindsight: I build my own
11:38 PM CaptHindsight: but I see those Chincao laser cutters around
11:38 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: you build your own laser cutters? What laser tubes do you use?
11:40 PM CaptHindsight: codepython777: usually RF tubes vs the glass tubes
11:41 PM codepython777: where do you buy them from? What wattages?
11:41 PM CaptHindsight: http://lasers.coherent.com/lasers/rf-co2-lasers
11:42 PM tiwake: CaptHindsight: I have a 30 watt diode laser from them
11:42 PM tiwake: <3
11:43 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: That looks like quality lasers - but expensive. Used 100w = $8k
11:43 PM codepython777: tiwake: how much did you pay for that?
11:43 PM tiwake: codepython777: used from ebay, $200
11:44 PM CaptHindsight: well they last >x10 longer than glass tubes
11:44 PM tiwake: came with a mounting plate, fiber optic cable, safety off mechanical thing, and a lense
11:44 PM codepython777: What is blue laser ?
11:45 PM tiwake: water cooled mounting plate
11:45 PM codepython777: the wattage I see is 2.8W or similar
11:49 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEOS-Demaria-Electro-Optics-Systems-LC-40B-Class-4-CO2-Laser-w-Case-Cables-/132286746290 350w $2k
11:50 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: how do you know - how much life is left in this box? Also, how does one control it?
11:51 PM CaptHindsight: the metal tube RF lasers can be refilled
11:52 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: how much does that cost?
11:53 PM codepython777: DeMaria got acquired by Coherent - 22.5m
11:53 PM CaptHindsight: ~$1k
11:53 PM codepython777: and how long does it last after filling?
11:54 PM CaptHindsight: years of continuous use
11:56 PM codepython777: that doesnt sound bad at all - especially for a 350w laser
11:57 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.2laser.com/laser_refill__refurbishment
11:58 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.parallax-tech.com/services.htm
11:58 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: how do you control these tubes? XY bed precision?
11:59 PM codepython777: CaptHindsight: do you build these for hobby? for work?
