12:50 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
12:53 AM IchGucksLive: CaptHindsight: hi
12:54 AM HighInBC: yo
12:55 AM IchGucksLive: im building tiny litle desktops for schools
12:55 AM IchGucksLive: mashines are below 300 if you build yourself
12:55 AM IchGucksLive: what backround do you got
12:55 AM IchGucksLive: in case of mashineng
12:55 AM IchGucksLive: im in germany
12:56 AM IchGucksLive: http://landauer-weihnachtscircus-gmbh.de/mini_cnc.jpg
12:56 AM IchGucksLive: you can build a full cnc with only a Drill
12:57 AM IchGucksLive: and how large is your desk
12:57 AM IchGucksLive: HighInBC: still a Deskmashine http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/holzcnc.jpg
12:59 AM HighInBC: not very good at machining, don't have the power tools. I am better at wiring and circuitry
01:00 AM HighInBC: I am working my way into it though slowly
01:00 AM HighInBC: I have a hand drill and a dremmel
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/5achs_elek
01:00 AM IchGucksLive: that woudt be the case
01:00 AM HighInBC: like the din rails, very neat and tidy
01:01 AM IchGucksLive: tiny is this http://heimwerkermarkt-tretter.de/3achs_elek
01:02 AM IchGucksLive: mashines homemade are around 300 for up to 400mm
01:02 AM IchGucksLive: the 2020 3020 are around 500 to buy
01:02 AM IchGucksLive: as you may know
01:02 AM HighInBC: I have an old kitchen counter as a work desk so it is fairly deep
01:02 AM IchGucksLive: HighInBC: where in the world are you
01:02 AM HighInBC: Canada
01:02 AM HighInBC: BC
01:03 AM IchGucksLive: lots of people there
01:03 AM HighInBC: yup
01:03 AM HighInBC: looks like I want to get a good frame and good electronics and build something vs getting a kit which seem to be a mix of qualities
01:03 AM IchGucksLive: yes
01:04 AM IchGucksLive: on your budget a realy good mashie is to be build
01:04 AM HighInBC: I am working on a brew system right now, I should probably keep my expensive and in depth builds limited to one at a time
01:05 AM HighInBC: working on a 5000W kettle
01:05 AM IchGucksLive: agree to that
01:05 AM IchGucksLive: open ebay and search for SBR16
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: this will give you a good start point
01:06 AM IchGucksLive: what Z high are you looking for
01:07 AM HighInBC: like the tallest object?
01:07 AM IchGucksLive: the Z high is the critical part for stiffness
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: so 150mm is the breaking point on routers
01:08 AM IchGucksLive: as most and best is to go sqare at the rail space
01:09 AM IchGucksLive: HighInBC: here is my youtube channel for more info https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmwhCL92ZQRSVqFe3jGwJSQ/videos
01:09 AM IchGucksLive: speed desktop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqx9w80diKo
01:09 AM HighInBC: excellent. I can sit and watch 5-8 hours of youtube on a subject and walk away with a decent understanding
01:10 AM IchGucksLive: and for stiffness you can do alot by gcoding the path like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdvROAlCMMQ
01:10 AM roycroft: i fire my kettle with propane
01:10 AM roycroft: but my hlt and mash tun are electric
01:11 AM HighInBC: I like that electricity is easier to move around ;)
01:11 AM HighInBC: and cheaper
01:11 AM roycroft: i didn't want to build my control panel to handle more than 50a
01:12 AM HighInBC: mine will be a mere 23A
01:12 AM roycroft: and it's easier to avoid scorching the wort with a direct fire kettle instead of an electric kettle
01:12 AM IchGucksLive: HighInBC: lok at the trochoidal Milling the crap mount the non perfect mill and the outcome on hard wood
01:12 AM HighInBC: >50A is a bit much hehe
01:12 AM roycroft: those are the primary reasons my kettle is gas fired
01:12 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off have a non bit breaking nice workday
01:13 AM roycroft: 25a is for the hlt heater
01:13 AM roycroft: the other 25a i use split-phase
01:13 AM roycroft: 1/2 goes to the rims heating element
01:13 AM roycroft: the other half goes to the pumps, valves, etc.
01:14 AM roycroft: i generally use all three vessels simultaneously
01:14 AM roycroft: if i had an electric kettle i'd have to go to a 75a control panel
03:46 AM Deejay: moin
04:53 AM XXCoder: boom
05:46 AM IchGucksLive: hi folks
05:46 AM XXCoder: hey
05:48 AM IchGucksLive: going to forest just radar check if thunder in region
05:48 AM IchGucksLive: til later
05:49 AM XXCoder: later
05:49 AM IchGucksLive: xxc are you around canada somone contacted here this morning
05:49 AM IchGucksLive: from BC
05:50 AM XXCoder: im over 100 miles south of canada.
08:11 AM codepython7771: has anyone bought a laser cutter recently?
08:19 AM Rod_W: No lasers but I think I got a plasma cutter in the way. DId you hear the excited shouting!
08:20 AM codepython7771: Rod_W: Congratulations! Which one did you get? What are you planning to cut? How precise is it? :)
08:20 AM * archivist had his ear defenders on
08:20 AM Rod_W: Just finally got Dewey's exteenal offsets working for THC. The fact that the cut lasted 3 seconds before the torch crashed is mere detail!
08:21 AM Rod_W: Home built from scratch. Started in July last year!
08:21 AM Rod_W: I'm happy with the accuracy. I wanted +- 0.1 and I am under that, maybe +_ 0.5mm
08:49 AM JT-Shop: Rod_W: did you figure out offset av ratio?
08:59 AM Rod_W: JT, Dewey has sent me some links to docs. I've got a lot to take in. I think I need to reduce the ratio to slow down response does that sound right?
09:00 AM Rod_W: Anyway, bloody happy to see the Z move under THC control even though it ploughed into the material!
09:02 AM IchGucksLive: hi Rod_W well done
09:03 AM IchGucksLive: why did the torch hit the part
09:04 AM JT-Shop: Rod_W: that's one reason I built a floating head with a touch off switch
09:04 AM IchGucksLive: control your ARC ok signal
09:05 AM IchGucksLive: or shut down thc via a mcode hack m5
09:05 AM JT-Shop: I'd start with numbers that under correct and work up from there
09:05 AM IchGucksLive: <-agree to Jd
09:05 AM IchGucksLive: t
09:06 AM IchGucksLive: some plasmas do let the arc ok signal on as the airflow is
09:06 AM IchGucksLive: crap but they do
09:07 AM IchGucksLive: Rod_W: is it a hyprtherm
09:07 AM IchGucksLive: the 45 are good but pricy
09:08 AM IchGucksLive: i use this brand here http://www.stamos-schweissgeraete.de/de/Plasmaschneider
09:12 AM IchGucksLive: JT-Shop: seams he is now cutting like crasy
09:12 AM IchGucksLive: no more chat
09:14 AM IchGucksLive: till later
09:16 AM Rod_W: Sorry guys just had a shower.
09:18 AM Rod_W: IchucksLive, The THC as too responsive. The target volts was probably too low and it moved too fast to adjust the voltage and poughed into the plate and the torch breakaway activated
09:21 AM Rod_W: As far as plasmas go I could not afford a Hypertherm so have an Everlast 50 amp. It has pilot arc/blow back torch and a CNC port
09:22 AM Rod_W: But it has incorrect documentation for its voltage divider. The manual is out by a factor of 0.5
09:23 AM Rod_W: JT, I'll try and get there so its undercorrecting, but I'm not sure how to do that yet.
09:25 AM Rod_W: I think also I'm going to invent an anti-crash feature that limits downward movement to prevent crashes. Another job!
10:10 AM hazzy1 is now known as hazzy
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:20 PM hazzy: Hello
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: Rod_W: still here
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: hi hazzy
12:34 PM Vq: evening
12:34 PM IchGucksLive: ;-)
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: Loetmichel: around
01:24 PM phipli: evening
01:24 PM IchGucksLive: hi your connection spams the channel
01:41 PM phipli: tis my phone sorry
01:41 PM phipli: when I walk in and out of wifi it reconnects
01:42 PM phipli: will settle now that I'm home
01:58 PM IchGucksLive: hi gloops
01:59 PM gloops: hi
02:00 PM gloops: waiting for some limit switches in the post
02:02 PM gloops: also not much holding torque - speed yes, can go very fast, but motors miss steps if any real resistance is applied
02:08 PM IchGucksLive: i told you adjust the ACC and the VEL
02:09 PM IchGucksLive: on your setup it is a must do
02:09 PM IchGucksLive: load up your ini
02:09 PM IchGucksLive: and we will help
02:09 PM IchGucksLive: as you only o 4steps per mm
02:09 PM gloops: thats the snag - the cnc computer is in the garage
02:10 PM IchGucksLive: that is good for pritig speed 200mm/sec
02:10 PM IchGucksLive: get it onlinie
02:10 PM IchGucksLive: use mozilla chatzilla on it to connect
02:10 PM gloops: how long are you around?
02:10 PM gloops: its not online yet lol
02:10 PM IchGucksLive: and get a header in the garage ofcause light also
02:11 PM IchGucksLive: im off right now
02:11 PM IchGucksLive: im here always 7pm Berlin time 1hr
02:12 PM gloops: max vel = 100 max acc 750
02:12 PM gloops: no vel = 1000
02:12 PM IchGucksLive: to mutch
02:13 PM IchGucksLive: goito 40Vel
02:13 PM IchGucksLive: and 120 ACC
02:13 PM gloops: right ill try that, is that affecting torque?
02:13 PM IchGucksLive: on all axis
02:13 PM IchGucksLive: YES
02:13 PM gloops: right
02:13 PM gloops: i have ordered a high volt supply as well
02:14 PM IchGucksLive: 48V
02:14 PM gloops: im on it thanks - the scale issue is very clear now thanks
02:14 PM gloops: i got 60v but its adjustable
02:14 PM IchGucksLive: No problem we will make you a good setup
02:14 PM IchGucksLive: but you start high not low
02:14 PM gloops: ok afk
02:15 PM IchGucksLive: you got 542A drivers they will burn on more then 48V
02:15 PM IchGucksLive: stay at max 48V
02:15 PM IchGucksLive: and you are fine
02:15 PM IchGucksLive: on 2.88A
02:16 PM IchGucksLive: hi Frank___
02:16 PM Frank___: Hi ichguckslive!
02:17 PM Frank___: any short name for that? heh
02:17 PM Frank___: nickname*
02:17 PM IchGucksLive: gloops: do not go higher then 100vel and 250acc
02:17 PM IchGucksLive: Frank___: you only need to press i and tab to get it in line
02:18 PM Frank___: lol
02:18 PM Frank___: do you happen to use fusion?
02:18 PM Frank___: 360
02:18 PM IchGucksLive: ok ic as there is in in chanel
02:18 PM IchGucksLive: brifly yes to get good lathe code
02:18 PM Frank___: im having the problem that fusion simulates one thing, but the machine does another
02:19 PM IchGucksLive: post
02:19 PM IchGucksLive: this happens
02:19 PM Frank___: on fusion i am making a rectangle 2d contour and i get a complete round thingy from the machine
02:19 PM IchGucksLive: the post intern uses CL data and the outut is translated toG-code
02:19 PM Frank___: but i've tried 4 other files and it was fine
02:20 PM Frank___: its just a freaking simple rectangle at 2 depths lol
02:20 PM IchGucksLive: then you are makeing somthing wrong on a simple rectangle there are tutorial vidos out to show you every keypress
02:21 PM Frank___: any solution?
02:21 PM Frank___: but i've made more complex things without any issue
02:21 PM phipli: lol
02:22 PM phipli: sorry - put the chickens away
02:22 PM IchGucksLive: Frank___: https://www.youtube.com/user/saunixcomp/videos
02:22 PM phipli: fixed
02:22 PM phipli: disconnected the phone
02:23 PM Frank___: i dont think its the model
02:23 PM Frank___: the simulation goes awesome
02:24 PM IchGucksLive: yes its your campost setting
02:24 PM IchGucksLive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1-ULUOLWiA
02:33 PM IchGucksLive: Frank___: this is a good one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km9ghwo39bM
02:36 PM IchGucksLive: im opff Gn8
02:45 PM JT-Shop: phipli: I just talked to the hatchery and the chicks are hatched the day they ship them
02:47 PM andypugh: Just-in-time manufacturing
02:50 PM Frank___: andy, sorry to bother, but has it ever happened to you that fusion 360 simulates a part perfectly but then the machine makes a different path? on the linuxcnc screen i can see the exact same thing as the fusion sim
02:51 PM andypugh: It sounds like LinuxCNC agrees with Fusion and LinuxCNC is doing something different?
02:51 PM Frank___: yes
02:51 PM andypugh: (Which is even wierder)
02:52 PM Frank___: and the path that shows after the move is the same as what the machine does
02:52 PM Frank___: im trying to upload a pic
02:52 PM andypugh: How different? Did you ask for a bracket and get a Yoda>
02:52 PM Frank___: a simple rectangle
02:52 PM Frank___: transformed to a wobbly circular shape
02:52 PM Frank___: the first pass, the second depth is normal
02:53 PM andypugh: Hmm, is it possibly the arcs going the wrong way?
02:53 PM Frank___: i have g64 p0.2
02:53 PM Frank___: i dont know,
02:53 PM andypugh: Fusion CAM is a bit odd with G91.1 (and the inverse)
02:54 PM andypugh: I am afraid I have things to do.
02:54 PM Frank___: oh its ok
02:54 PM andypugh: I will likely be back in about 3 hours.
02:54 PM Frank___: thanks thou
02:54 PM Frank___: where can i find info on g91
02:54 PM Frank___: i have it on the file
02:54 PM Frank___: ill google lol thank you andy
03:04 PM rob_h: what post are you all using for fusion to linuxcnc ?
03:09 PM cpresser: the linuxcnc post?!
03:11 PM jdh: trick question!
03:12 PM rob_h: i did not know if someone had made a post processor for fusion thats not on the fusion list/site
03:13 PM cpresser: it ships with a post-processor thats called linuxcnc
03:13 PM cpresser: it works well for me. I just tinkered with the tool-change-stuff since my machine has no tool-changer
03:13 PM cpresser: something with the tool-table and tool-offsets did not work. and since I was to lazy to fix it properly, I changed the post to exclude tool-changes
03:17 PM rob_h: ill give it and go thx, not had chance to play too much with cam side on fusion yet
03:50 PM phipli: JT-Shop: how long are they in transit for?
03:54 PM JT-Shop: 1-2 days at the most, they are hatched in Lebanon MO then I assume go to St. Louis then to Poplar Bluff so about 300 miles of travel
03:55 PM JT-Shop: if they go to Springfield then 250 miles of travel
03:55 PM Tom_itx: JT-Shop, sorry to hear about the chickens
03:55 PM Tom_itx: wild dog or neighbors?
03:56 PM JT-Shop: dunno never saw it before
03:56 PM Tom_itx: stuff arrived. thanks
03:56 PM JT-Shop: cool
03:56 PM Tom_itx: those look alot better than the chinese junk
03:59 PM JT-Shop: yea they are Allen Bradley like $40 a pop plus the base
04:03 PM phipli: I thought you meant the other Lebanon for a second...
04:03 PM phipli: bit of a flight :)
04:03 PM JT-Shop: we have a Cuba as well
04:04 PM phipli: At least Cuba is a tad closer :)
04:04 PM phipli: you're probably closer to the real Cuba than Alaska
04:05 PM JT-Shop: it took us 3 days on the BlueWing to reach Key West which is the closest bit to Cuba
04:05 PM gloops: adverts are getting longer on youtube
04:05 PM gloops: and the skip button has a delay
04:05 PM phipli: sometimes they're unskippable
04:07 PM rob_h: adblock plus and no more adds
04:08 PM HighInBC: wish that worked on "smart" tvs
04:08 PM HighInBC: it is bloody evil, like they are trying to bring us back to the bad old days
04:09 PM gloops: yeah i had adblock, worked fine, always slightly suspicious of it though, i might get that again
04:10 PM rob_h: yea i dont like having lots of addons too
04:12 PM JT-Shop: hmm the hikvision camera does not say if it uses mode-a or mode-b for poe and my poe switch is mode-a which worked with the other two cameras I think
04:16 PM Deejay: re
04:48 PM Deejay: gn8
04:59 PM gloops is now known as goodlord
05:20 PM Frank___: has it ever happened to you that linuxcnc doesnt follow a path like it should?
05:21 PM Frank___: it makes a waffle instead of a rectangle, and only in the first pass ...
05:22 PM JT-Shop: nope
05:23 PM JT-Shop: does an ethernet switch uplink port have to be connected to a router?
05:24 PM goodlord: stupid question, but you did save for linuxcnc gcode protocol Frank?
05:25 PM Frank___: sorry goodlord, do you mean to set the pp to linuxcnc?
05:25 PM Frank___: i did on fusion 360
05:25 PM Frank___: didnt tried the emc pp thou
05:25 PM Frank___: but it worked on other stuff
05:26 PM goodlord: yes - i dont use fusion so cant help with that
05:26 PM Frank___: but i dont think fusion is the problem
05:26 PM Frank___: the screen of lcnc shows the correct toolpath
05:26 PM goodlord: no, but using codes that arent compatible with linux would be
05:27 PM JT-Shop: damn still can't see the camera
05:27 PM goodlord: ok, seems to eliminate the software, what about noise?
05:27 PM goodlord: having any other problems? funny circles or anything?
05:28 PM Frank___: this is what i get
05:28 PM Frank___: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zYmR5qAgcJFBxVzJypps4bOH8q9Fozxe3A/view
05:28 PM phipli: JT-Shop: do you have more than one router?
05:28 PM Frank___: this is what i should get
05:28 PM Frank___: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-CdvlQb9JoFcX0vD8pQSAfD8J9uiyPmfPg/view
05:28 PM phipli: are you behind a firewall?
05:28 PM JT-Shop: can't see it but I just logged in
05:29 PM phipli: I had something similar the other week
05:29 PM phipli: do you remember me getting irritated with an SBC?
05:29 PM JT-Shop: ah I had to set a password before it would show up on the net
05:29 PM phipli: connected it to ethernet and couldn't find it in the list of devices attached to the router?
05:30 PM phipli: JT-Shop: ah, you couldn't see it on the internet, not your network?
05:31 PM goodlord: the radiuses arent even uniform Frank, hmm
05:31 PM Frank___: yes, i wouldnt think its noise because its consistent
05:32 PM Frank___: and always the same shape
05:33 PM goodlord: well i saw someone with a very expensive machine he'd bought the other week - circles were consistently not right, had little dog ears every 90 degrees, turned out to be noise, he had to change all the wiring for shielded stuff
05:35 PM goodlord: you would be seeing it in other designs though surely
05:35 PM Frank___: i do have shielded stuff, and had no problems with other files, is it possible that im getting noise now but not before?
05:35 PM Frank___: i will try with other files to see what happens
05:35 PM TurBoss: Frank___ check http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/gcode/gcode.html#sec:G64
05:35 PM TurBoss: related to "it makes a waffle instead of a rectangle, and only in the first pass ..."
05:36 PM TurBoss: oh the only first pass
05:36 PM TurBoss: not sure then
05:36 PM Frank___: lol
05:36 PM Frank___: hehe
05:36 PM TurBoss: G64 P0.015
05:36 PM Frank___: i have g64 to 0.2
05:36 PM JT-Shop: phipli: on my LAN
05:36 PM Frank___: but no problems with my second pass
05:36 PM TurBoss: ok
05:36 PM TurBoss: so isn't that
05:37 PM TurBoss: can you check your path with camotics?
05:37 PM TurBoss: to see if its there too?
05:37 PM Frank___: will have to google camotics
05:38 PM TurBoss: its a libre path visualization tool and so other things
05:38 PM Frank___: itsa simulation soft?
05:38 PM TurBoss: ye
05:38 PM Frank___: i can check
05:38 PM TurBoss: there is also Cimco but is propietary and not cheap
05:39 PM Frank___: but check this :https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-CdvlQb9JoFcX0vD8pQSAfD8J9uiyPmfPg/view linuxcnc sees the paths like it should
05:40 PM TurBoss: ok
05:40 PM TurBoss: so your G65 sould be of more low balue
05:40 PM TurBoss: *value
05:40 PM TurBoss: G64**
05:41 PM TurBoss: 0.01 or 0.001
05:41 PM TurBoss: :D
05:41 PM Frank___: i will try that too.. but still seems odd, as the second path with same geometry goes perfect
05:41 PM TurBoss: ist slower?
05:41 PM Frank___: nope
05:41 PM TurBoss: *its
05:42 PM TurBoss: how fast the machine goes?
05:42 PM Frank___: 6000mm/min
05:42 PM Frank___: on feed
05:43 PM TurBoss: ya
05:43 PM TurBoss: ok
05:43 PM Frank___: and 14000mm/min rapids
05:43 PM pcw_mesa: The preview does not consider acceleration limits
05:43 PM TurBoss: !!
05:43 PM TurBoss: thats it
05:43 PM Frank___: but same geometry second pass goes good???
05:43 PM Frank___: and is you look at the pic it goes way beyond the lines
05:43 PM Frank___: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zYmR5qAgcJFBxVzJypps4bOH8q9Fozxe3A/view
05:43 PM pcw_mesa: You may need a G1 feed in
05:44 PM goodlord: one way to test that - run it slow
05:44 PM TurBoss: yes XD
05:45 PM TurBoss: or maybe increase the acceleration?
05:45 PM TurBoss: can't help more
05:45 PM Frank___: sorry pcw, but what would be a g1 feed in, i know what the code does, but my first language is spanish, therefore feed in goes a little blurry heh
05:46 PM TurBoss: jaja
05:46 PM TurBoss: hola
05:47 PM pcw_mesa: For blending and lookahead a G0 move to the first point causes issues
05:48 PM Frank___: okey, i get it, but is there an easy way to do it with a lot of files of 4000 lines?
05:50 PM Frank___: turboss: hola! jaj
05:50 PM TurBoss: :)
05:59 PM goodlord: can do it with 2000 lines easy
06:04 PM JT-Shop: wow this HikVision camera is good
06:07 PM JT-Shop: at 12 yards the width is 15 yards...
06:24 PM andypugh: Oh what fun, I don’t seem to be able to type a # in my Stretch VM.
06:25 PM JT-Shop: always something
06:25 PM andypugh: On the Mac natively it is right-alt-3 which is bad enough, but on the Wheezy VM that gives me a superscript 3
06:25 PM andypugh: I am coing to copy that one up there and paste it when needed.
06:30 PM Frank_10: the little things are the worst lol
06:52 PM phipli: night folks
06:55 PM Tom_itx: JT-Shop, wide angle ehh?
06:56 PM Tom_itx: how clear is it at 50-100 yards?
06:58 PM CaptHindsight: better than a maker space https://mhubchicago.com/page/equipment-and-resources
07:01 PM CaptHindsight: thought the cnc shop is kind of weak https://mhubchicago.com/page/Equipment-List?category_no=1523
07:04 PM Tom_itx: http://www.gocreate.com/
07:04 PM Tom_itx: that's our new one
07:13 PM CaptHindsight: the one in Chicago markets itself as more of a tech incubator vs hobby shop
07:14 PM CaptHindsight: but you can get an account/membership to use all the tools and shop for only $150/mo
07:17 PM CaptHindsight: https://mhubchicago.com/page/mentors VC's
07:17 PM andypugh: I visited Techshop Detroit a year or so ago. They still spam me. It’s a pretty good facility, but a bit too far away for me to subscirbe to.
07:18 PM andypugh: London Hackspace is, well, rather British. Disorganised, anarchic and untidy, but it does have some very clever folk there.
07:19 PM andypugh: (and they have a biohacking lab…)
07:19 PM CaptHindsight: the maker space in Chicago felt like a jr high with beards and no showering
07:20 PM CaptHindsight: mostly software
07:22 PM CaptHindsight: the mhub looks more professional
07:22 PM andypugh: I could find the London Hackspace useful if I didn’t already have pretty much all the same stuff. Except for the laser cutter. But I could just buy one.
07:23 PM CaptHindsight: there's an electron microscope here but the res is pretty poor
07:23 PM CaptHindsight: similar on ebay for a few $k
07:23 PM andypugh: Techshop Detroit is professional, they have receptionists. London Hackspace is not, I walked in and there was a fat girl sewing and no-one else to be seen.
07:23 PM Tom_itx: ok, both optos work with jt's relays
07:24 PM andypugh: London Hackspace is more my style, though. :-)
07:24 PM CaptHindsight: I went to the hackerpsace in Shanghai a few years ago, they only had a drill press and some hand tools
07:24 PM Tom_itx: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/OPTO_Top.jpg
07:25 PM Tom_itx: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/OPTO_Bottom.jpg
07:25 PM Tom_itx: crude but it works
07:25 PM Tom_itx: CaptHindsight what more do you need?
07:25 PM Tom_itx: you can make just about anything with a hacksaw and a file
07:26 PM CaptHindsight: hacksaw and a file, you sound spoiled, we used to only have rocks :)
07:26 PM andypugh: Tom_itx: You could “dead bug” it and seal it in glue-lined heat-shrink. That looks so simple it is a waste of dot-board.
07:28 PM CaptHindsight: do any hackerspaces have chem labs?
07:29 PM CaptHindsight: there are a couple bio focused hackerspaces
07:29 PM Tom_itx: andypugh true but i wanted to test it first and i had all the stuff pretty much within arm's reacy
07:29 PM Tom_itx: h
07:30 PM Tom_itx: notice one of the resistors is misaligned. a couple of the dots were shorted together
07:54 PM CaptHindsight: Tom_itx: did you find out the problem on your boards?
07:55 PM CaptHindsight: the one that blew up
07:55 PM Tom_itx: i think the relay stuck
07:56 PM Tom_itx: that's why all the fuss here over relays :)
07:56 PM Tom_itx: got some new ones from jt
07:56 PM Tom_itx: i hooked it up without the relays and it worked ok, just no reverse
07:57 PM Tom_itx: when the relay stuck it popped the trace on that little board
07:57 PM Tom_itx: i don't think i really need it anyway
07:57 PM Tom_itx: the ssr is probably still good but i'm not gonna chance it
07:58 PM CaptHindsight: how I blew up a transfer switch for a big generator once years ago
07:58 PM Tom_itx: it's got a fuse on it
07:58 PM Tom_itx: well 2 now
07:59 PM CaptHindsight: the loads were motors so nothing broke except for the contacts on the relay that completely melted
07:59 PM CaptHindsight: copper arms with contacts, the arms just vaporized
07:59 PM Tom_itx: yeah i noticed these arms are pretty thin
08:40 PM BeachBumPete: Jeez man my wife just scared the living hell out of me... GRRrrrrrr
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: I was out there running some parts for a customer
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: and she KNOWS how paranoid I am about any strange noises coming from the machine EVER
08:41 PM malcom2073: Heh
08:41 PM BeachBumPete: SO she decided that it would be just HILARIOUS to come around the back of the machine and slap her hand on the back of the enclosure four times
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: I swear I turned WHITE
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: I thought WHAT IN THE HELL just happened to my CNC
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: so I stop the damn program and turn off the spindle and coolant to try to see or hear just what the hell is going on...
08:42 PM BeachBumPete: All I HEAR is her snickering back there like it was the funniest thing ever
08:43 PM BeachBumPete: I am still trying to calm down here LOL
08:44 PM malcom2073: Lol nice
08:45 PM hazzy: Haha, sounds like you have a fun wife
08:45 PM hazzy: or not ... ;)
08:51 PM CaptHindsight: is the part ok?
08:52 PM BeachBumPete: yeah the part is fine.... my heart not so much LOL
08:52 PM CaptHindsight: I was running the Matuura one day and I heard a funny rumble and the floor was shaking a bit...
08:52 PM BeachBumPete: she said she was just trying to get my attention afterwards
08:52 PM CaptHindsight: so I stopped and turned the machine off but the runble was still there
08:53 PM CaptHindsight: ends up it was a passing tornado
08:53 PM BeachBumPete: I guess from when I first got the machine working and had so many issues with the original control blowing up and frying stuff I am a bit gunshy about this machine
08:53 PM CaptHindsight: I opend the side door to the shop and green water was flying sideways
08:54 PM CaptHindsight: it had passed by a few hundred yards to the north thru a corn field
08:54 PM BeachBumPete: Then I am making a rail that is not so common and I did not comment my program adequately so I wound up second guessing everything. maybe my nerves are just shot today LOL
08:54 PM CaptHindsight: heh, take a break
08:54 PM BeachBumPete: CaptHindsight that is an Oh shitter if I ever heard one
08:55 PM CaptHindsight: I just peeked out and my shirt was instantly soaked
08:55 PM BeachBumPete: I swear we have hurricanes and I have been thru severel but tornadoes scare the crap out of me
08:55 PM CaptHindsight: tilt up concrete building with steel roof
08:55 PM BeachBumPete: no warning and absolute random destruction
08:56 PM CaptHindsight: we had a few small leaks but otherwise everything was ok
08:56 PM CaptHindsight: I build things to last so even the satellite and TV antennas survived
08:57 PM BeachBumPete: and let me guess your neighbors house is now a mile down the road
08:57 PM CaptHindsight: trees down
08:57 PM CaptHindsight: corn flat on its side, no houses destroyed
08:58 PM CaptHindsight: I was out back one day and had a funnel cloud form over me, great big one maybe 1/8 mile in dia
08:59 PM BeachBumPete: your name isn't dorothy is it?
08:59 PM CaptHindsight: was dark green and got down to a few hundred feet and then moved on
08:59 PM CaptHindsight: it never touched the ground
08:59 PM CaptHindsight: the old shop was in tornado alley
09:00 PM CaptHindsight: we even had an earthquake around that year about a mile east and two miles down
09:00 PM CaptHindsight: enough to feel the ground drop out from below you for a second
09:02 PM CaptHindsight: nothing exciting since then
09:03 PM CaptHindsight: BeachBumPete: do you guys prank each other much?
09:06 PM BeachBumPete: well I gotta admit I have this tendency that when I am out in the shop concentrating and someone walks up on me it startles me and I ALMOST hit her a couple times from pure fight response. I don't know why i do it but it is something that has always been that way with me. I almost hit my boss at the shop I worked in once its purely reactionary.
09:07 PM BeachBumPete: it has happened even when I am in the shower and she pops in on me unexpectedly.... she thinks it is hilarious
09:08 PM CaptHindsight: I know someone like that
09:08 PM BeachBumPete: so after she has done this purposely about a million times I started pranking her a bit here and there... So I guess it has escalated LOL
09:08 PM CaptHindsight: it can be tricky
09:09 PM CaptHindsight: it's like a reflex
09:09 PM CaptHindsight: purely defensive
09:09 PM BeachBumPete: honestly I did not find this funny tonight mostly because I am so concerned about the machine working for me all the time
09:09 PM BeachBumPete: Oh yeah man it is purely reflexive I would never hit her but I ALMOST did a couple times LOL
09:10 PM CaptHindsight: if you even need a good family court attorney let me know :)
09:10 PM BeachBumPete: It kinda reminds me of a youtube video we watched one time. there is this guy sitting in front of his house on the porch dressed as a scarecrow
09:10 PM BeachBumPete: This young black fellow and his daughter walk up to trick or treat the house
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: the guy does not move until they are almost right on top of him
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: then he kinda moved like to scare the kid and the guy instinctively punches him out
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: it is kinda hilarious to watch
09:11 PM CaptHindsight: saw that one
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: but my wife is like that is SOOOO YOU
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: there a couple on youtube that prank each other all the time
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: they get pretty out of hand
09:12 PM * Tom_itx lights a firecracker beside BeachBumPete
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: real messy stuff, water, soap, powders
09:12 PM BeachBumPete: its not noises really that causes it
09:13 PM BeachBumPete: well at least not noises that do not come from my machines LOL
09:13 PM BeachBumPete: its more the idea that an intruder is nearby and I react
09:13 PM CaptHindsight: hot peppers in food
09:14 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49EjERmlJ2I these guys
09:14 PM BeachBumPete: sometimes my wife will tell me that she wrecked the car or that our bank account is empty or something like that and then say she is just kidding
09:14 PM Tom_itx: my bud had to replace the VFD in his mill recently
09:14 PM Tom_itx: got a spindle error
09:14 PM BeachBumPete: HAHAhahaha my wife just reminded me of something that I got her good on
09:15 PM BeachBumPete: when we were dating
09:15 PM BeachBumPete: I lived in an apartment off base in Sacto near McClellan AFB where I was stationed
09:15 PM BeachBumPete: I had this scary mask I got for halloween I think it was like a zombie/vampire or somethin
09:15 PM BeachBumPete: it was actually quite scary
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: well I was sharing the apt with another coast guardsmen I was friends with
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: SO I thought I would mess with him a bit
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: I got one of those wig mount heads from somewhere
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: and I put the mask on it
09:17 PM BeachBumPete: then I stuck it in one of the talller narrow cupboards in the kitchen
09:17 PM BeachBumPete: figuring that he would find it.
09:17 PM BeachBumPete: Little did I know that my then girlfriend would go snooping in my kitchen for some snacks
09:17 PM BeachBumPete: and open the door and find it.
09:17 PM BeachBumPete: She said she opened the door and saw it and then slammed it shut screaming LOL
09:18 PM BeachBumPete: I was not home yet I was on duty
09:18 PM BeachBumPete: so I did not get to see it but she still talks about that today LOL
09:18 PM BeachBumPete: musta scared the crap out of her
09:18 PM CaptHindsight: anti-snoop device
09:18 PM CaptHindsight: that'll teach em
09:18 PM BeachBumPete: yup
09:19 PM BeachBumPete: I think I still have that damn mask somewhere
09:19 PM CaptHindsight: I had this odd glowing light on the ceiling...
09:20 PM CaptHindsight: i couldn't figure out what was causing it
09:20 PM CaptHindsight: put your hands over lights, move them and it wouldn't move in any relationship to your movement
09:22 PM CaptHindsight: it ended up being this odd effect from the highly polished reflectors in the high bay fixtures
09:22 PM BeachBumPete: creepy
09:22 PM CaptHindsight: it happened when they were off
09:23 PM BeachBumPete: WOAH
09:23 PM CaptHindsight: yeah, why we were spooked the first time we walked in
09:24 PM CaptHindsight: you know it has to be something logical but it just didn't make sense at first
09:24 PM BeachBumPete: IKR
09:26 PM CaptHindsight: everyone has some spooky story
09:27 PM BeachBumPete: I got one but it is kinda unexplainable LOL
09:27 PM BeachBumPete: wanna hear it?
09:27 PM CaptHindsight: in 2 months
09:27 PM CaptHindsight: :)
09:28 PM BeachBumPete: LOL
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: gotta save them up
09:28 PM CaptHindsight: most often it's the lost remote control that just shows up
09:29 PM CaptHindsight: or keys
