01:03 AM codepython7771: CaptHindsight: http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Bondo-1-qt-All-Purpose-Fiberglass-Resin-20122/202077790 - this one can be heated?
01:32 AM Goodlord: .
01:33 AM Goodlord: is this for a plasma cutter?
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: codepython777: yes, that actually contains no fiberglass
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: it is just the binder
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: polyester oligomer and styrene monomer
01:48 AM CaptHindsight: no glass fibers
01:49 AM CaptHindsight: Bondo body filler is the the thick paste
01:51 AM CaptHindsight: Goodlord: I think it's a router
01:52 AM CaptHindsight: he just wants to cool and clean as he cuts carbon fiber cloth
01:54 AM CaptHindsight: codepython777: at room temp it pours like chocolate syrup, at 60C like olive oil or whole milk
01:55 AM CaptHindsight: if you don't overdo the MEKP catalyst then it cures in a couple hours
01:55 AM CaptHindsight: it levels in seconds
01:56 AM CaptHindsight: if you bump it in the gel state you'll have frozen waves
01:57 AM Goodlord: oh right, yeah grp is good for anything like that
01:58 AM Goodlord: you could make a wooden tray and line it with butyl rubber, like they use for ponds or roofing, probably not a great idea if youre dropping sharp stuff in it though
01:58 AM CaptHindsight: I'm not sure how he plans on holding the CF in place while cutting
01:59 AM Goodlord: oh i see, the work is going to be in the water while cutting
01:59 AM CaptHindsight: yeah
02:00 AM CaptHindsight: water vacuum
02:00 AM CaptHindsight: you could with a pump and filter
02:01 AM Goodlord: youd need a big pump to bring the water back
02:02 AM Goodlord: if its only for cooling would it be better to just pump coolant over it as normal and have a collection tray underneath?
02:02 AM Wolf_: water is probably for a combo of keeping the cutting burr cool and dust control
02:03 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TEvzgKKiiA maybe like this
02:03 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opr9wJNk2B0
02:04 AM CaptHindsight: double sided tape
02:05 AM CaptHindsight: as long as the PSA is not water soluble :)
02:06 AM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7vUru1mu4g
02:07 AM CaptHindsight: my mill is going to look like that soon if I don't replace the spindle bearings
02:07 AM CaptHindsight: only it will be spindle oil
02:11 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
02:12 AM IchGucksLive: there are so good cheep vaccumtables ready and flat as a pice of wood
02:13 AM IchGucksLive: Goodlord: for plasma a 1 inch water table is best
02:15 AM Goodlord: Ich yeah, ive pondered making one sometime but probably not a good idea in my garage
02:28 AM IchGucksLive: Goodlord: where are you in the world
02:37 AM Deejay: moin
02:37 AM IchGucksLive: morning Deejay
02:37 AM IchGucksLive: fog as thick as KĂ„SESAHNE
02:38 AM IchGucksLive: Goodlord: still on
02:39 AM Goodlord: im in the UK - near sheffield
02:40 AM IchGucksLive: here are some cool examples on plasma cutting http://www.schweden-feuer.de/feuersauelen.htm SCROLE Down
02:43 AM IchGucksLive: im off till later
05:08 AM XXCoder: hey miss0r
05:09 AM XXCoder: hows things
05:43 AM jthornton-: morning
05:45 AM XXCoder: hey jthornton- know what's shocking? I took regular route for first time in weeks lol
05:45 AM jthornton-: to work and back
05:46 AM XXCoder: yep
05:46 AM XXCoder: not one turnaround, not one alternate route
05:46 AM XXCoder: hows ya, and hows chicken door working so far
05:47 AM Vq: XXCoder: How far is it?
05:47 AM XXCoder: not very far, just 20 min drive
05:47 AM Vq: Thats pretty ok
05:47 AM XXCoder: just annoying to go wrong way in freeway, turn around, drive past my exit because its closed, turn around again, then finally drive home
05:48 AM XXCoder: adding another 10 min
05:51 AM jthornton- is now known as jthornton
05:51 AM Vq: Sounds like you live in a bigger city than I do, that doesn't happen here.
05:51 AM Vq: Maybe if there's an accident...
05:51 AM XXCoder: nah highway is being worked on
05:51 AM XXCoder: I drive home at 2 am
05:51 AM jthornton: the timer based chicken door is working well, still working on the code for the wifi door
05:51 AM XXCoder: so tis always closed
05:51 AM XXCoder: unfortunately entrances and exists is closed in such way its pretty nasty for me
05:51 AM Vq: ok, thats understandable then.
05:51 AM XXCoder: jt nice :)
05:51 AM Vq: Something like that happened here last saturday, they closed down the main north-south going road for a bicycle race.
05:52 AM Vq: You had to zig-zag through the city or go around and I didn't know about it. :/
05:52 AM XXCoder: lol here if they closed it for bicycle race even for 30 min it would cause huge backlog that lasts all evening
05:52 AM Vq: Took much more than 10min...
05:53 AM Vq: They have an annual iron man competition here and do the same thing, but that's usually better handled.
05:54 AM jthornton: they were working on a bridge just west of Williamsville and people had to drive 50 miles to get to the other side of the bridge
05:55 AM XXCoder: jt there is one way to go home from work without any freeway
05:55 AM XXCoder: it adds almost 30 minutes lol
05:55 AM XXCoder: I had to use that route once. it was quite nasty and wandering around
05:56 AM XXCoder: the point of getting to other side is little more than tiny road that crosses rail way off
05:56 AM XXCoder: there is 3 main roads crossing that damned barrier and that day somehow all was closed lol
05:57 AM Vq: I can't really complain, my main commute is about 2km by bike and no real trafficked intersections.
05:57 AM XXCoder: damn
05:57 AM Vq: 8min door to door
05:57 AM XXCoder: I'd love to have bicycle commute
05:57 AM Vq: It's great
05:58 AM jthornton: I walk out my door around my deck and across the driveway to my work
05:58 AM Vq: I was in such luck as well, they built a bicycle bridge over the freeway that cut the distance in half and made away with some tricky intersections with car traffic.
05:59 AM XXCoder: jthornton: damn thats long commute time lol
05:59 AM Vq: Couldn't be better :)
05:59 AM Vq: jthornton: wow
06:02 AM jthornton: now I have to figure out how to program a Mitsubishi FX PLC
06:15 AM jthornton: oh cool Mitsubishi GX Developer has a simulation tool
07:26 AM _methods: i think their software is free too
07:26 AM _methods: or there was at least a free cut down version if i remember correctly
07:45 AM jthornton: the customer purchased a copy for me
07:46 AM jthornton: do you program Mitsubishi PLC's?
07:59 AM _methods: yeah just here at the shop though
08:00 AM _methods: one of our saws has a mitsubishi fx? i think in it
08:00 AM _methods: i had to reprogram it after the old plc died
08:05 AM jthornton: that's what the nitrogen injectors use a FX3G plc
08:05 AM jthornton: I need to change the mitsi hmi with a c more
08:06 AM _methods: i kinda like them they're nice and small and fairly cheap
08:28 AM mtpocketscnc: morning aal
08:28 AM mtpocketscnc: all
10:27 AM IchGucksLive: hi
10:30 AM mtpocketscnc: hi IchGucksLive
10:30 AM IchGucksLive: ;-)
10:30 AM mtpocketscnc: thanks for the simp g code gen suggestion
10:31 AM mtpocketscnc: been using them on the machine computer
10:32 AM IchGucksLive: there is more good stuff
10:32 AM mtpocketscnc: i have an arch system that they don't like but I have been slowly editing them to run
10:32 AM IchGucksLive: awallin has best Text and STL direct Lcnc no CAM
10:32 AM IchGucksLive: http://www.anderswallin.net/category/cnc/
10:34 AM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: http://www.anderswallin.net/2014/02/opencamlib-and-openvoronoi-toolpath-examples/
10:35 AM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: here are the git https://github.com/aewallin
10:36 AM mtpocketscnc: looks like i have more to play with :)
10:37 AM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: look at the scrips it easy as yui can let the python script open and only reload on LCNC then it ads the different
10:38 AM IchGucksLive: or as you want to adding them to ngcgui
10:38 AM IchGucksLive: but i like the direct way
10:38 AM mtpocketscnc: ok so silly question
10:39 AM IchGucksLive: here there are no silly Q
10:40 AM mtpocketscnc: i was trying to read on helical interolation but can't seem to find any good sites . i downloaded some gcode that works but i can't seem to understand exactly how to write myself. Do you know if there are any sites that explain it well
10:40 AM mtpocketscnc: want to know so i can learn to threadmill
10:43 AM IchGucksLive: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/gcode/gcode.html#sec:G2-G3-Arc this is just the gcode ref
10:43 AM archivist: depending how you want to do it, one line of gcode
10:45 AM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: did you load the ngcgui sample mashine
10:45 AM IchGucksLive: there is a helix ngc includet
10:47 AM mtpocketscnc: that is exactly what i was looking for i can't believe i didn't find that in my studies last night
11:08 AM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: did you get it
11:08 AM IchGucksLive: ok im off till later
11:11 AM uwe__ is now known as uwe_
11:59 AM TurBoss: hello
12:01 PM Deejay: re
12:27 PM IchGucksLive: hi
12:28 PM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: still online
12:37 PM IchGucksLive: hi phipl
12:43 PM Zebs: ?Hello.
12:44 PM Zebs: How are you this morning?
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: its almost dark here
12:44 PM IchGucksLive: milling letters the whole day
12:45 PM Zebs: Was it satisfying?
12:47 PM IchGucksLive: no only work
12:49 PM Zebs: Oh.
12:49 PM Zebs: Well, time to relax?
12:49 PM IchGucksLive: 50 plates to go
12:50 PM IchGucksLive: its for a 70km trail
12:52 PM Zebs: That's a lot.
01:04 PM mtpocketscnc: still here...fighting to compile cutsim on arch
01:07 PM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: use camotics
01:15 PM mtpocketscnc: chakracore errors when i try to compile camotics. i'll just hafta stop using arch for my cnc stuff
01:15 PM mtpocketscnc: simple gcode scripts don't work unless changed for arch either
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: yes its almost best to stay with a given running system
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: chakracore is not longer needed so you imported a wrong libary
01:23 PM mtpocketscnc: ok don't laugh but how are you guys messaging just one person instead of all
01:25 PM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: did you imort libv8-dev
01:26 PM mtpocketscnc: i'll have to download from site...i tried using the camotics in arch user repo
01:26 PM mtpocketscnc: must need to be updated
01:27 PM IchGucksLive: ok mtpocketscnc if you get it to run please never start a g-code sim without proving the seting mot to be manuel
01:28 PM Zebs: mtpocketscnc: "/msg NAME MSG" is the standard format.
01:28 PM Zebs: Try it out, send me a message.
01:29 PM IchGucksLive: Zebs: on chatzilla you just can hit the nick ;-)
01:30 PM IchGucksLive: mtpocketscnc: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y libv8-dev AND then the DEB shout install
01:30 PM Zebs: I've never used chatzilla. I'm on weechat myself.
01:30 PM Zebs: Which client are you in mtpocketscnc?
01:35 PM mtpocketscnc: alright guys my brain hurts..been trying to figure stuff all morn gonna take a break and go work on machine
01:35 PM mtpocketscnc: thanks for the help
01:36 PM Zebs: Of course. Take care.
01:36 PM IchGucksLive: GN8 lso from me till tomorrow Europ time
01:37 PM mtpocketscnc: i'll have some pics and maybe a video to share soon so you all can see my take on cnc mill/router
01:38 PM mtpocketscnc: later have a nice afternnoon I'll pop in later
01:53 PM phipli: evening
01:54 PM Zebs: Evening.
01:55 PM Zebs: I got home, and testing some things, got things working.
01:55 PM Zebs: Last part is the pen lift, and that's got me baffled. Think I need to write a thing to manually add this to the GCode.
02:00 PM phipli: put it on the spindle enable pin
02:01 PM phipli: or direction
02:01 PM phipli: M3 for up
02:01 PM phipli: M5 for down?
02:01 PM phipli: Zebs : what do you have the pen connected to?
02:07 PM Zebs: M3 commands work, chilipeppr just doesn't seem to send 'em.
02:07 PM Zebs: SG90 Tower Pro.
02:08 PM Zebs: Probably a knockoff, but same pinout and spec.
02:08 PM Zebs: Simple 3 pin servo.
02:22 PM phipli: chilipeppr sends M3
02:22 PM phipli: have to make sure GRBL is wired correctly
02:23 PM phipli: they changed the pinout between 0.8 and 0.9
02:23 PM _methods: https://www.army.mil/article/191212/army_discovery_may_offer_new_energy_source
02:30 PM Zebs: Sending M3 manually works.
02:30 PM Zebs: And moves the servo.
02:31 PM Zebs: Perhaps there is no M3 in my GCode.
02:31 PM Zebs: Perhaps I need a new method to send M3.
02:31 PM Zebs: Or perhaps my settings are off.
02:31 PM Zebs: Perhaps I need a new method to generate GCode.
03:28 PM phipli: You can add M3 into the gcode
03:28 PM phipli: it is just a text document
03:29 PM XXCoder: yeah any script kiddie and machinists can do it ;)
03:31 PM Zebs: Yeah, I think I need to write a converter.
03:33 PM phipli: :0
03:33 PM phipli: *:)
03:33 PM phipli: or just use find and replace
03:34 PM Zebs: That sounds laborious if I'm doing this more than once.
03:40 PM XXCoder: Zebs: some cams allow you to edit post
03:41 PM Zebs: I probably just need to suck it up and write my own GCode generator.
03:41 PM Zebs: The end goal is two button animation.
03:41 PM Zebs: *automation.
03:42 PM Zebs: Sorry, really tired today.
03:42 PM phipli: G21G90X0Y0Z0
03:42 PM phipli: Zebs: I assume you linux?
03:42 PM Zebs: Surprisingly no.
03:42 PM Zebs: I mean, I can, and in the end this'll be on a Pi.
03:43 PM Zebs: But primarily, no.
03:43 PM Zebs: Just writing in Processing, 'cuz it is nifty and easy to explain for presentations.
03:43 PM Zebs: Also portable.
03:44 PM phipli: Remember that GRBL just reacts to what it gets over serial
03:44 PM Zebs: I'm aware.
03:44 PM Zebs: So I'll probably need to build an interpreter into this.
03:44 PM phipli: so if you write your own program you can just tell it what to do
03:44 PM phipli: really easily
03:44 PM Zebs: Any idea what the buffering in GRBL looks like?
03:44 PM Zebs: Or does it use a status register or something?
03:45 PM phipli: how do you mean?
03:45 PM Zebs: Like, I've not yet looked under the hood of the gcode senders.
03:45 PM phipli: they just send the gcode
03:45 PM phipli: as text
03:45 PM Zebs: All at once?
03:45 PM phipli: all the processing is done on the arduino
03:45 PM phipli: line by line
03:46 PM Zebs: With some sort of wait in between, yes?
03:46 PM phipli: forget how big the arduino buffer is
03:46 PM Zebs: Gotcha.
03:46 PM Zebs: I'll do some research then.
03:46 PM phipli: if it uses the serial hardware flow control then you don't need to worry about it
03:47 PM Zebs: The end goal is to automate the entire process as a demonstration of extreme low-budget project possibilites.
03:47 PM Zebs: *possibilities
03:48 PM Zebs: Which was kind of achieved at the last presentation, but more functionality is desired.
03:49 PM phipli: https://github.com/grbl/grbl/wiki/Connecting-Grbl
03:49 PM phipli: poke through the pinout
03:52 PM Zebs: I've been a bit, but it's a different pinout than the firmware I'm on.
03:53 PM Zebs: So, the standard NEMA type motors most people use on CNC applications are bi-polar, correct?
03:53 PM phipli: there are two pinouts on that link
03:55 PM phipli: mine are unipolar, wired bipolar
03:56 PM Zebs: So if I convert my unipolar motors to bipolar, I can use this silliness to drive the pile?
03:56 PM Zebs: https://www.banggood.com/CNC-Shield-UNO-R3-Board-4-X-DRV8825-Driver-Kit-For-Arduino-3Denleth-Printer-p-1134845.html?rmmds=search
03:57 PM XXCoder: if you have linuxcnc computer as well as go a little more and get BOB and 3 or whatever number you need tb6600s
03:58 PM Zebs: Those look nice, but they'd push the project over-budget.
03:58 PM XXCoder: whats your budget like
03:59 PM Zebs: It's for a "how cheap can we go" deal, so not much.
03:59 PM XXCoder: lol ok
03:59 PM Zebs: The two machines I've got kinda running are built out of cardboard, glue and some things.
03:59 PM XXCoder: not milling machines?
04:00 PM phipli: mills steel don't you know XXCoder
04:00 PM Zebs: Plotter.
04:00 PM Zebs: Really basic plotter.
04:00 PM XXCoder: nice
04:00 PM Zebs: They're cute.
04:00 PM XXCoder: once I get that kickstarter printer, I might convert old one into plotter
04:01 PM Zebs: But the driver board that was linked is about the cost of an Arduino off of eBay so it doesn't push the cost up and would simplify interfacing.
04:01 PM Zebs: Since I could use the standard GRBL release.
04:08 PM XXCoder: cool :)
04:10 PM Zebs: Yeah. Work in progress.
04:15 PM * JT-Shop checks Foscam off the list of good cameras
04:16 PM phipli: brb
04:17 PM Zebs: Sure thing.
04:20 PM Zebs: Welome back.
04:20 PM Zebs: Welcome back.
04:22 PM Deejay: gn8
04:30 PM phipli: sometimes sound gives up on my laptop - haven't worked out how to get it back without a reboot yet
04:30 PM Zebs: That's unpleasant.
04:31 PM JT-Shop: another IP camera fails to work...
04:32 PM phipli: whats up JT?
04:32 PM phipli: struggling to connect?
04:37 PM JT-Shop: this is a Foscam and I figured out the IP address and port and now it won't go past the login screen because it needs some plugins and when you download and install them it still won't work so back it goes
04:38 PM phipli: are you on windows?
04:38 PM JT-Shop: yes
04:38 PM phipli: I've had issues with a camera where it required one of those windows type plugins
04:38 PM phipli: forget what they're called
04:39 PM JT-Shop: the ip address is 192.168.1.2:88 but my LAN is 192.168.0.
04:39 PM JT-Shop: activex something
04:39 PM phipli: use a laptop and just plug in a straight ethernet patch cable
04:39 PM phipli: these days the computer ports auto negotiate and rewire the port so it is like a crossover
04:40 PM phipli: then give your laptop a fixed IP in the same range
04:40 PM phipli: yeah - activex webpluggins cause me issues
04:40 PM phipli: I don't have any windows machines
04:40 PM JT-Shop: I have no problem connecting to the camera with my router that is set to 192.168.1.1
04:40 PM phipli: it is almost the only time I've ever had to give up and borrow the missus' windows laptop
04:41 PM JT-Shop: I just can't log in to change the IP address of the camera
04:41 PM phipli: tried a few different browsers?
04:41 PM phipli: do you have Javascript turned off?
04:41 PM phipli: popups?
04:42 PM JT-Shop: I already have the refund processed with Amazon it's painless and free to return to them
04:51 PM XXCoder: JT-Shop: should be simple to setup simple crossover cable and connect camera directly to your computer
04:51 PM JT-Shop: I have crossover cables for PLC's and other stuff
04:53 PM phipli: you rarely need them these days
04:53 PM XXCoder: yeah
04:53 PM phipli: computers just rewire their ports
04:53 PM XXCoder: I still have foot long normal, crossover and roll over cables lol
04:54 PM XXCoder: from college class
04:56 PM CaptHindsight: can we stop with the Yoda's now? http://www.3ders.org/articles/20170811-hong-kong-hospital-makes-3d-printed-models-of-foetuses-available-to-expectant-parents.html
04:58 PM XXCoder: I don't need another yoda, I have foot tall lego model
04:58 PM XXCoder: bought one for $20, its quite valuable now :P wish I bought 2 I saw back then lol
04:58 PM XXCoder: its been in display for decades now
05:00 PM CaptHindsight: lego model of your fetus
05:00 PM XXCoder: can be done, if such exists lol
05:05 PM codepython777: how can i face epoxy/resin? what bit do i need? (it has dried)
05:06 PM codepython777: superglaze
05:14 PM codepython777: is acrylic different to cnc than epoxy ?
05:14 PM XXCoder: no idea, never milled either
05:15 PM XXCoder: nylon is just nasty though, you need million coolant spraying to keep nylon cool lol
05:17 PM phipli: acrylic melts to the tool
05:17 PM phipli: if you heat it too much
05:17 PM XXCoder: nylon is same
05:20 PM phipli: anyways
05:20 PM phipli: nn folks
05:20 PM XXCoder: later
05:29 PM codepython777: so painful - not worth it - thanks :)
05:32 PM XXCoder: codepython777: not really, you just to constantly spray coolant on it, and no deep cuts
05:32 PM codepython777: XXCoder: I dont have a way of spraying coolant
05:32 PM XXCoder: me either, thats why my nylon project was a failure heh
05:35 PM XXCoder: lol!
05:35 PM XXCoder: I was watching video about eclipse
05:36 PM XXCoder: and on suggested videos side... tons of crackpot videos
05:36 PM XXCoder: "THE PLANET X (NIBIRU) VEIL WILL BE LIFTED DURING THE GREAT ECLIPSE AUGUST 21, "
05:59 PM CaptHindsight: kewl
06:41 PM Adamj12b-mobile: So ive been trying to tune my servos and I seem to need to use huge values. My p is currently 14000... Is this in the realm of normal?
06:46 PM XXCoder: no idea
06:49 PM pcw_mesa: P is normally high for torque mode drives
06:51 PM pcw_mesa: also depends on the units (mm/inch) unless you normalize them by setting the analog out scaling
07:07 PM Adamj12b: pcw_mesa I've tried both torque and velocity. Both need to be very high below 1000 i can't get motion on either type.
07:07 PM Adamj12b: How would i normalize them? I am using inch BTW.
07:11 PM pcw_mesa: Sounds like something is not right, if you imagine a velocity mode servo in inches and the default +-10V analog out scaling
07:11 PM pcw_mesa: a P gain of 1000 means that a full scale 10V velocity command would be asserted with a 0.010 inch error
07:12 PM pcw_mesa: (or full scale torque at 0.010" error)
07:19 PM Adamj12b: Hmm. How would change the scaling?
07:20 PM Adamj12b: https://pastebin.com/gx2GqEif
07:21 PM Adamj12b: This is my current torque tuning. Its not perfectly stable as i haven't finished, but i kept increasing p until the servo wasn't spongy still.
07:23 PM pcw_mesa: I suspect you have a analog connection issue with the drives
07:25 PM pcw_mesa: I dont see how you have have a system (P=18000) that applies full torque (10V) with a position error of 1/1800 of an inch
07:25 PM pcw_mesa: (thats stable I mean)
07:25 PM Adamj12b: Really? OK i can double check.
07:26 PM Adamj12b: That one isnt stabilized yet, but thata what it took go get the servo to fight hard enough that I couldn't turn the hand wheel.
07:27 PM Adamj12b: My other tuning, p=4000, is very stable. I can get 255ipm oitput before following error. The pid.x.output on halscope looks to average abiut 7.7v
07:28 PM Adamj12b: This is a 1khz servo loop. https://goo.gl/photos/xq6GMCxUipUrHs3d7
07:28 PM pcw_mesa: Set P to 10, (and the following error limits to about 2 inches) at P=10 a position error of 1 inch should apply full torque
07:28 PM Adamj12b: And this is a 4khz servo loop, which the computer is kinda unhappy about. https://goo.gl/photos/CA7i426yDP9FoYt97
07:29 PM pcw_mesa: if is does no even try to jog at a P of 10, something is wrong
07:30 PM pcw_mesa: (it should at least stay within 1/4 inch or so assuming a lot of way friction)
07:30 PM Adamj12b: OK. It wont jog at a p200...
07:30 PM Adamj12b: It wont turn the un connected servo.
07:31 PM pcw_mesa: it wont do a 1 inch jog?
07:31 PM Adamj12b: Never mind move the machine. Ill check my wiring and make sure its right.
07:31 PM Adamj12b: Hell no.
07:32 PM Adamj12b: It wont even move before it trips follow error
07:32 PM Adamj12b: Woth a low p.
07:33 PM pcw_mesa: set the following error to an inch or so also you cannot tune at all unless the motors are connected to the axis
07:35 PM Adamj12b: Right. Cant tune it, but it should atleast turn.
07:36 PM Adamj12b: Let me ask you this, a differential analog signal does not need a common correct? I thibk it does because of other signals, but im worndering.
07:36 PM pcw_mesa: yes this should be easy to trace with a low P term, the position readout and a voltmeter
07:36 PM pcw_mesa: do the drives have differential inputs?
07:36 PM Adamj12b: Yes.
07:37 PM pcw_mesa: They do required a common so that you do not exceed the drives input common mode range
07:38 PM Adamj12b: A+ connected to 7i77 aout and a- connected to 7i77 gnd terminal
07:39 PM pcw_mesa: Right but you may need drive common to 7I77 GND also
07:40 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Ok. Right now its tied to the common on 5/24v supplies which are also connected to the 7i77
07:40 PM Adamj12b-mobile: I can make a direct path.
07:40 PM pcw_mesa: Note that for velocity mode drives most of the "tuning" is just setting FF1 correctly
07:43 PM pcw_mesa: I would get out a voltmeter and set P to 1 (and I=D=0) disable the drives and verify that the voltage across the drives A+,A-
07:43 PM pcw_mesa: pins = ferror
07:45 PM pcw_mesa: (set ferror limits large enough that LinuxCNC does not fault)
07:45 PM pcw_mesa: BBL Dinner!
07:46 PM Adamj12b-mobile: So if I disconnect the encoder the PID is going to try to keep the ferror, that will disable the individual drive?
07:46 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Ok thanks.
07:48 PM skullworks: need a command that can pull the last 20 lines from before I joined...
07:50 PM Adamj12b-mobile: skullworks +1
07:51 PM skullworks: yeah - like walking into the lecture hall and hearing - and that is how it works.
07:52 PM Adamj12b-mobile: skullworks i use toms log. http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~tom-itx/irc/logs/%23linuxcnc/2017-08-11.html
07:52 PM skullworks: What?
07:52 PM Adamj12b-mobile: It logs every day.
07:52 PM skullworks: handy!
07:53 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Yup!
07:54 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Tpgc8LwiU
07:54 PM XXCoder: guy buys chinese made flame licker machine and fixes it
07:59 PM Adamj12b-mobile: That's awesome
07:59 PM XXCoder: yeah, also shows typical chineseium quality
07:59 PM Frank_10: hi guys; i need to solve a problem; i have a servomotor that goes 3000rpm max 750w; but i have it on rack an pinion with a 2.5 belt reduction a.k.a: it maxes out speed at 250rpm and has torque problems; is it a bad thing dual belt reduction?
08:00 PM Frank_10: i cant aford a nice planetary reduction
08:00 PM Frank_10: i think they are like 600usd each
08:00 PM skullworks: How about a single 6:1 or 8:1 belt drive
08:02 PM Frank_10: i would; but that would mean having very low teeth mesh on the servo pulley
08:02 PM Frank_10: and a big ass pulley on the other side lol
08:02 PM skullworks: Actually maybe more like 12:1
08:02 PM Frank_10: i would love thar
08:02 PM Frank_10: that
08:02 PM Frank_10: but how
08:02 PM Frank_10: without a 300mm diameter pulley
08:02 PM Adamj12b-mobile: What belt are you using?
08:03 PM Frank_10: timing belt pitchL
08:03 PM Frank_10: could use Xl thou
08:03 PM Frank_10: but servo already has.a 16tooth L pulley
08:05 PM skullworks: so you need a 192
08:05 PM Adamj12b-mobile: What are you driving with a 1hp servo and 2.5:1 having torque issues?
08:07 PM CaptHindsight: freight cars up a 10% grade?
08:08 PM Frank_10: lol
08:08 PM Frank_10: 150kg gantry
08:08 PM Frank_10: there is actually two motors
08:09 PM Frank_10: but my racks are completely garbage and im having racking problems
08:09 PM Frank_10: im afraid of the one motor im using now to wear more than the other
08:10 PM Frank_10: this wouls only be a couple of months
08:10 PM Frank_10: is it something to be concerned about in your opinion?
08:10 PM CaptHindsight: XXCoder: so the flame goes inside the engine an gets scared and comes back out but forgets and then goes back in etc etc
08:10 PM skullworks: a 192 tooth would be 12.2" dia.
08:10 PM XXCoder: lol
08:11 PM Frank_10: lol; i said 300mm and thats like 305mm
08:11 PM skullworks: chinese have designed the hybrd external combustion engine.
08:12 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Hahahaha
08:15 PM XXCoder: its quite old idea actually
08:15 PM XXCoder: it has couple problems, one of em being that it cannot be started right away, it needs to warm up a little
08:16 PM CaptHindsight: ultra-compact billion to one gearing, 1.000.000.000:1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_pbOCIg_nI
08:19 PM XXCoder: I don't know how much torque that can supply lol
08:19 PM CaptHindsight: Compound Belt Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOPp_Ayf_pA
08:19 PM skullworks: The metal spinner I used to run had opposing hydrolic cylinders. Bleeding pressure from one side would cause the other cyl to move the carrage. 30HP 400VDC spindle motor - awesome metal forming power.
08:19 PM CaptHindsight: 1hp in, 1000000000 out of course :)
08:19 PM XXCoder: I remember one artistic project where there is gearing rato of 10:1 few times and last gear is encasted in concerete
08:19 PM XXCoder: evenually if spun enough it will break out. evenually.
08:22 PM skullworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNkgUlXdiHE not sure how to think of this - there is a method to the madness.
08:23 PM XXCoder: https://wegway.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/arthur-ganson-machine-with-concrete1.jpg
08:23 PM XXCoder: apparently it will take trillion year for enclosed gear to rotate once
08:24 PM CaptHindsight: skullworks: DMA over what bus? to what from where?
08:25 PM skullworks: looks like they are trying to use the pi native GPIO
08:26 PM CaptHindsight: is the DMA that well documented on the pi3?
08:27 PM skullworks: I just want to hack up some GRBL code to replace a HAAS 5C indexer remote 4th axis - simple cycle start/ cycle complete handshake.
08:28 PM CaptHindsight: I haven't seen latency jitter on an ARM soc under ~60uS
08:28 PM skullworks: and use a pi to run the Universal G-code sender java program.
08:29 PM adamj12b-web: pcw_mesa: With a drive disabled, analog0.output is -0.0005 and my meter reads 0.0010
08:29 PM adamj12b-web: this is stationary.
08:30 PM skullworks: So Pi for UI and programming, Arduino for motion control feeding a Gecko or 6600 driver.
08:31 PM CaptHindsight: pi with FPGA is fine for me
08:32 PM skullworks: the new GRBL is really nice - for 3axis with no cutter comp
08:32 PM skullworks: no fcycl
10:10 PM adamj12b-web: pcw_mesa: Here is the link to my findings. https://forum.linuxcnc.org/30-cnc-machines/33016-fryer-mb-11-bed-mill-retrofit?start=20#97353
10:12 PM adamj12b-web: Basically, every 10's digit of the P gain, adds a digit to the analog output. ie 10 = 5mV, 100 = 50mV, 1000 = 500mV 10000 = 5V. This is with a 1.0000 f-error
