01:23 AM IchGucksLive: Motning from Germany
01:24 AM IchGucksLive: morning
01:26 AM IchGucksLive: its getting a nice day im off 2 garden
02:23 AM Deejay: moin
02:38 AM nullifier: Anyone know offhand if LinuxCNC can talk to SPI drivers like te
02:38 AM nullifier: bigfoot?
03:20 AM archivist: nullifier, does not make sense, linuxcnc is the motion controller
03:21 AM archivist: nullifier, more sensible is use the hardware and replace the code with linuxcnc
05:20 AM jthornton: morning
05:26 AM XXCoder: hey
05:27 AM jthornton: flew the S500 in loiter mode last night it just sat there inside a 5' box with 2' of vertical
05:27 AM XXCoder: perfect for lazy pilots. ;)
05:27 AM XXCoder: loitering while loitering
05:32 AM IchGucksLive: hi
05:38 AM IchGucksLive: till later
06:29 AM Loetmichel: *gnah* Lunch not ready yet... HUNGER... and suddenly: plugged in ad for th McD hamburgers... Hunger^3....
06:30 AM Loetmichel: s/ plugged/ youtube plugin
06:30 AM XXCoder: hunger cubed
06:31 AM XXCoder: is that the ad you saw? Loetmichel http://www.lab-initio.com/screen_res/nz334.jpg
06:32 AM Loetmichel: no
06:32 AM Loetmichel: but nice ;-(
06:32 AM Loetmichel: ;-)
06:32 AM XXCoder: ah too bad, always wanted to try that ;)
07:26 AM jthornton: https://www.banggood.com/DJI-F330-4-Axis-RC-Quadcopter-Frame-Kit-Support-KK-MK-MWC-p-943370.html
07:27 AM jthornton: got that in yesterday, came in an envelope... have not looked at it yet
08:04 AM Tom_L: but you want to
08:08 AM JT-Shop: ok if you insist
08:48 AM evgenii: hallo to all
08:49 AM evgenii: is somebody here from Germany
09:06 AM JT-Shop: there are several from Germany but they may not be at their PC...
09:31 AM jdh: they ight be out driving their bmw/mercedes on teh autobah while wearing lederhosen and eating bratwurst
09:39 AM JT-Shop: lol
10:14 AM archivist: even those not in germany could be out driving, like I was at the time, coming back from collecting pillar drill
10:15 AM pink_vampire: Hellooo https://youtu.be/9vQ6X_xFSYw?t=30m37s
11:34 AM adamj12b-web: very quite today so Ill throw something out there.
11:36 AM adamj12b-web: This morning when I tried to add a 7i84 Mode3 to my 7i77 using pncconf, When I launched the profile, I got an error on ENC0 on the 7i84 which is an MPG. When I changed it to Mode0, no more error. Ideas?
11:51 AM IchGucksLive: hi
11:53 AM IchGucksLive: evgenii: ich bin aus deutschland
11:54 AM IchGucksLive: JT-Shop: you shoudt have known michi and dj where online in germany
11:55 AM adamj12b-web: @IchGucksLive I figured out my spindle issue on the 7i77 yesterday
11:56 AM IchGucksLive: good for you did ive been involved in solving
11:57 AM adamj12b-web: i dont quite understand what the issue is exactly, but by specifying 2 gears in the spindle, everything started working.
11:58 AM adamj12b-web: only the following 4 lines were added to the hal file.
11:58 AM adamj12b-web: loadrt scale names=scale.gear
11:58 AM adamj12b-web: loadrt mux16 names=ratio_select
11:58 AM adamj12b-web: addf ratio_select servo-thread
11:58 AM adamj12b-web: addf scale.gear servo-thread
11:59 AM pink_vampire: I did today part out of phenolic laminated.
12:01 PM adamj12b-web: sorry and this
12:01 PM adamj12b-web: net spindle-pid-out pid.s.output => scale.gear.in
12:01 PM adamj12b-web: net gear-ratio ratio_select.out-f => scale.gear.gain
12:01 PM adamj12b-web: setp ratio_select.in00 0.000233
12:02 PM adamj12b-web: setp ratio_select.in01 0.001744
12:02 PM adamj12b-web: net gear-select-a => ratio_select.sel0
12:02 PM adamj12b-web: net spindle-output <= scale.gear.out
12:13 PM IchGucksLive: Adamj12b so far so good i woudt do my own component on gear change to make shure the gear is changed till i start the spindle
12:14 PM IchGucksLive: as i like to wait G4 for the gear to be changed
12:14 PM IchGucksLive: adamj12b-web: do you got a return signal that the gear is in
12:15 PM IchGucksLive: and wait till spinle is at speed bevore starting motion in
12:17 PM adamj12b-web: first, how do i tag you in a message? i cant figure that one out...
12:19 PM IchGucksLive: adamj12b-web: 4 letters and tab
12:19 PM adamj12b-web: As of right now, Im bench testing, but I will be connecting to the gear position switch.
12:19 PM adamj12b-web: IchGucksLive: Thanks!!
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: by writing your own component is not that hard you can use IF THEN and so on
12:21 PM adamj12b-web: IchGucksLive: https://goo.gl/photos/f29NuXRSoKx66s1ZA
12:23 PM adamj12b-web: To write my own component, would I do that in the custom.hal file or just redo everything pncconf did?
12:24 PM IchGucksLive: adamj12b-web: http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/hal/comp.html
12:46 PM archivist: pink_vampire, a toy to make your coupling http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122628420519 /me ducks
12:46 PM archivist: just might fall through the floor
12:52 PM pink_vampire: OMGGGG
12:54 PM archivist: just came up in my watch list for gleason :)
12:54 PM m0n5t3r: heh... living in a former communist country with close to zero remaining industry and zero previous amateur maker culture, all 2nd hand machinery you can find for sale are 2 or 3 ton lathes and mills that escaped "privatisation" (read: being sold for scrap) in the 90s
12:56 PM archivist: not everything went to scrap, watch ebay etc some is still around
12:56 PM m0n5t3r: then again, if I lived in teh UK or 'murica I wouldn't be able to weld on the balcony on the 10th floor, or have a little CNC machine in the spare bedroom
12:57 PM archivist: I have a cnc in a bedroom in the uk
12:58 PM m0n5t3r: shipping to Romania would cost more than the thing, that's why I was talking about buying locally :)
12:58 PM archivist: and, two in the kitchen
12:58 PM m0n5t3r: lol
12:58 PM m0n5t3r: no neighbours to complain?
12:58 PM archivist: dont let a "partner" rule you :)
12:59 PM archivist: detached house, they wont know
01:00 PM m0n5t3r: 10th floor, middle of Bucharest :); the wife is ok with it, and I'm lucky my neighbour downstairs is the kind that also welds on the balcony
01:01 PM m0n5t3r: I had a bad leak on my bathtub (sheet metal corroded and had a big hole, didn't see it), he knocked on the door at some point and said there's a lot of water streaming from his ceiling, not a big deal because it falls in the sink, but it's next to electrical wires, might be a good idea to fix it
01:12 PM IchGucksLive: does someone know a free rs232 file transfer programm for linux 32bit
01:13 PM IchGucksLive: for cnc file transfer ofcause to a sinumerik
01:14 PM IchGucksLive: editornc is for 64bit deb
01:14 PM archivist: be aware of handshakes etc, cat file>tty1
01:15 PM IchGucksLive: its a thing of try and error
01:20 PM IchGucksLive: archivist https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/precise/gtkterm/
01:23 PM archivist: cat filename>tty1, note you may need some handshake protocol, that gtkterm or cat>tty can only do hardware handshake
01:23 PM IchGucksLive: thanks for info
01:24 PM archivist: you do need some handshake to stop buffer overrun
01:24 PM phipli: evening
01:25 PM IchGucksLive: archivist this is the settingspage http://www.connectcnc-dnc.com/Settings/Siemens802d.html
01:25 PM archivist: RTS/CTS (Hardware) , make sure wired properly
01:37 PM IchGucksLive: im off Gn8
01:39 PM JT-Shop: yea fresh crickets will arrive soon
01:40 PM archivist: not breeding them fast enough?
01:42 PM JT-Shop: none have hatched out yet from the first batch, I saved a few and let them grow up and breed, I hope I got some of each lol
02:09 PM phipli: You'll end up getting attached
02:09 PM phipli: starting a Cricket farm
02:11 PM JT-Shop: hey whats up
02:11 PM Loetmichel: snake food or what for, JT-Shop?
02:12 PM phipli: Loetmichel: chicken food
02:12 PM phipli: JT-Shop: cutting blue foam so I can do some tests are the kind of speeds you folks are used to :)
02:13 PM Loetmichel: interesting
02:13 PM phipli: waiting for a new motor controller in the post so that I can use full speed on the spindle and get remote speed control from the computer...
02:13 PM Loetmichel: i would have imagined to feed chicken with corn/wheat/etc
02:13 PM Loetmichel: not insects. but makes sense...
02:13 PM JT-Shop: cool
02:14 PM phipli: Loetmichel: they're Omnomnomivorous
02:14 PM JT-Shop: Loetmichel: insects are chicken candy
02:14 PM Loetmichel: i know
02:14 PM phipli: they'll eat anything
02:14 PM phipli: anything from grass to small snakes
02:14 PM phipli: everything from grapes to baby birds
02:14 PM Loetmichel: phipli: anything that is aviable... i meant that corn seems to be a cheaper way to raise chickens.
02:14 PM phipli: ah right
02:15 PM phipli: they're treats rather than staple
02:15 PM Loetmichel: i see
02:15 PM phipli: it makes them /very/ happy
02:16 PM Loetmichel: do you kill the cricets before feeding?
02:16 PM JT-Shop: a couple of the RIR hens are getting bright red comb and waddles
02:16 PM JT-Shop: no, but I'll feed them dead crickets if they are fresh
02:16 PM Loetmichel: i would like to see a whole henhouse be on the hunt for life cricets ;)
02:16 PM JT-Shop: it'a a mad dash for sure
02:17 PM phipli: sometimes ours get excited and run in circles
02:17 PM JT-Shop: I sit on a bucket and the two rocks jump in my lap and the rest get between my legs and beg
02:18 PM JT-Shop: slightly more on topic phipli I did a loiter with the GPS last night and it did well
02:19 PM JT-Shop: got the FPV camera hooked up as well yesterday, today I might be brave and look at the monitor while it hovers lol
02:19 PM Loetmichel: i think the main reason to not have chickens in the garden is that they are so loud. (apart form mot really having a garden thats mine to do with as i whish, rented appartment)
02:19 PM phipli: begging chickens : http://elephantandchicken.co.uk/misc/begging.jpg
02:20 PM Loetmichel: phipli: looks a abit like that "homeless dove lady" every open city place seems to have :-)
02:21 PM Loetmichel: -a
02:24 PM phipli: Loetmichel: about the same amount of beard
02:24 PM phipli: JT-Shop: do you have two cameras on it now?
02:25 PM Loetmichel: phipli: i meant: about the same amount of bird shit on the clothes :-)
02:25 PM phipli: nah, thats a hat
02:26 PM JT-Shop: phipli: no, just the FPV camera... still pondering the HD camera situation.
02:33 PM phipli: I have a mobius camera - bit to heavy for any of my toy quadcopters though
02:33 PM phipli: I think it was about £40 when I got it
02:39 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012KKTBRU/ref=od_aui_detailpages00 I'm not sure you can actually call the bearings inside these balls
02:40 PM CaptHindsight: balls would mean spherical vs polygons
02:43 PM CaptHindsight: matchbox cars might come with more precision wheels
02:44 PM phipli: matchbox use piles with undersized axles don't they?
02:44 PM phipli: actually quite a cool design solution
02:45 PM phipli: cheap to make but very low friction (low contact area rubbing) means they roll further
02:45 PM phipli: piles = pipes
02:45 PM phipli: when I'm not typing with my fists
02:49 PM phipli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DRbgYLhc4Y
02:50 PM phipli: worth watching - someone using a metal working pantograph to scale down from a x5 model
02:57 PM CaptHindsight: when models were models and dancin was dancin
02:57 PM FinboySlick: You guys seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfMR7jDzDqk
02:57 PM FinboySlick: Pretty neat little home-made CNC lathe.
02:58 PM FinboySlick: With a couple ATC and slant bed.
02:58 PM FinboySlick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jmOk86-jgM is it doing actual work.
02:59 PM CaptHindsight: https://youtu.be/7baalgg9ZDE?t=3m looks like matcbox used Bridgeports
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.hindtechnology.com/cnc-controllers/?v=322b26af01d5
03:05 PM phipli: CaptHindsight: Bridgeports are... not quite the default in the UK
03:05 PM phipli: but there are a lot of them about
03:05 PM phipli: during the war the design of certain mills were distributed to all manufacturers
03:05 PM phipli: best design made by everyone
03:05 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.hindtechnology.com/shop/lathe-controller/?v=322b26af01d5
03:06 PM phipli: i half remember it might have been a bridgeport design, or the ancestor of it or something
03:06 PM CaptHindsight: Lathe Controller$ 515.00
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: they are all made in Thailand or Malaysia now
03:11 PM CaptHindsight: designs is in Los Angeles
03:17 PM FinboySlick: Don't know how well it works but it's an appealing package. Cost is about right too.
03:19 PM CaptHindsight: i tried to see what hardare they use and more about the software and the site froze
03:24 PM phipli: The problem with watching CNC youtube videos is that it masks the sound of your own machine and you can't listen to it as carefully...
03:49 PM CaptHindsight: https://arstechnica.com/science/2016/11/revisiting-why-incompetents-think-theyre-awesome/
03:52 PM phipli: I used to know someone that had so much self confidence they'd apply for any job they felt like
03:52 PM phipli: they scary thing is that they were so confident that they'd get such jobs
03:53 PM phipli: and then bitch that it was the worst job ever and move on (probably because they couldn't do it at all)
03:53 PM phipli: I'm talking, programming jobs when they couldn't (applied and then started doing online courses)...
03:53 PM CaptHindsight: HR hard at work again
03:53 PM phipli: they actually once asked me "what do you do"
03:53 PM phipli: and started talking about applying for a similar job, perhaps even at my work
03:54 PM phipli: they were a humanities graduate... I'm a Mechanical Engineering graduate...
03:54 PM phipli: TRANSFERABLE SKILLS! Perhaps...
04:00 PM CaptHindsight: we have a great pumpkin like that here
04:00 PM XXCoder: Welcome, the great pumpkin
04:01 PM XXCoder: https://usercontent2.hubstatic.com/12721971_f520.jpg
04:25 PM Deejay: gn8
08:57 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Anybody around that could lend some advice on a 7i77 analog servo setup?
08:59 PM CaptHindsight: Adamj12b-mobile: just ask
09:01 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Im setting up a new machine, testing everything on the bench. Im getting follow error on the only axis i have connected, X. It seems like no analog signal is being output for motion, but everything works in pncconf open loop test.
09:02 PM CaptHindsight: are your encoders hooked up to the 7i77?
09:03 PM CaptHindsight: if they are you could increase the follow error a bit and see if you have the direction backwards or the scale is off
09:04 PM CaptHindsight: are you currently getting a follow error or any other error?
09:05 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Yes encoder is connected and reading. Open loop jog+ counts positive on encoder and vise versa for -.
09:06 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Follow error is increased from 0.0500in to 1.000 and pid reduced to p=2.5 everything else pid is 0.
09:06 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Motor doesnt even try move with a g00 x-10 command.
09:07 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Only joint 0 following error.
09:08 PM CaptHindsight: post your config.ini and hal.ini on pastebin
09:08 PM CaptHindsight: i have to go but somebody will see it
09:10 PM CaptHindsight: try p=1 and slow down your accel so you can see if it tries to move before it throws the error
09:10 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Accell is 2in/sec.
09:11 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Ill try p=1.
09:11 PM CaptHindsight: try 0.1in/sec
09:11 PM BeachBumPete: try a G1 X-10 F2 or something?
09:12 PM BeachBumPete: is your motor locked down?
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: does the axis hold itself when stopped or does it rdift?
09:12 PM CaptHindsight: yesh, can you spin it by hand when it's off
09:13 PM CaptHindsight: well he did say it moves in open loop mode
09:13 PM CaptHindsight: so it doesn't sound locked
09:13 PM adamj12b-web_: CaptHindsight: Yes. Servo drive is in Torque mode and it has almost 0 resistance
09:14 PM CaptHindsight: 0 resistance when enabled?
09:14 PM adamj12b-web_: Correct
09:14 PM CaptHindsight: sounds like it's not enabled or in torque mode
09:14 PM CaptHindsight: it should fight you when it's stopped in torque mode
09:15 PM CaptHindsight: it should want to hold itself
09:15 PM CaptHindsight: what servo drive/amp is this?
09:16 PM adamj12b-web_: DMM-Tech Dyn4
09:16 PM adamj12b-web_: In torque mode, the drive does not care about encoder position from my research
09:16 PM BeachBumPete: oh cool I have the same ones
09:16 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.dmm-tech.com/Files/CTADYN4FT-1214E0_P1.pdf
09:17 PM adamj12b-web_: G01 X-10 F2 watching pid.x.error just count in the negative direction with no motion on servo.
09:18 PM CaptHindsight: oh sorry if the drive is getting 0V in torque mode then it should not resist you
09:18 PM BeachBumPete: what do you mean zero resistance? if you grab the motors shaft can you turn it?
09:19 PM CaptHindsight: 0V = 0 torque
09:20 PM CaptHindsight: if you can turn it by hand then it's not resisting you
09:20 PM adamj12b-web_: CaptHindsight: yes. Correct. These are 1.0kW
09:20 PM BeachBumPete: sweet I got the same ones..
09:22 PM adamj12b-web_: I am running 500 count on the encoder output from the drive.
09:22 PM adamj12b-web_: O, Pastebin, one min let me get that
09:25 PM BeachBumPete: perhaps I am not understanding you about the resistance thing. The servo motors need to lock down when enabled of course and not drift either way if no input is being given to move. You are saying your motor can be moved without resistance when enabled by hand?
09:25 PM adamj12b-web_: BeachBumPete: Correct
09:26 PM BeachBumPete: if that is the case then your motors are NOT enabled
09:27 PM BeachBumPete: which would be the reason you are getting a following error when you try to move them
09:27 PM adamj12b-web_: Let me add, that If i check the analog output during a motion command, the multimeter shows 0V still.
09:27 PM adamj12b-web_: all awhile the pid error is counting
09:28 PM adamj12b-web_: I am positive the drives are enabled because one of the stupidest things DMM-Tech could have done is create a disable input and not an enable input. They are enabled all the time....I have not wired that signal yet in order to simplify things
09:30 PM adamj12b-web_: HAL file https://pastebin.com/Gnduk5mg
09:31 PM BeachBumPete: you are getting power to the motor inputs right?
09:33 PM adamj12b-web_: INI File https://pastebin.com/9pe1GW4f
09:33 PM adamj12b-web_: motor input terminals? are you talking AC mains?
09:34 PM adamj12b-web_: The servo can be spun fine in the open loop test
09:34 PM BeachBumPete: well capt said that you had said you were able to move the motor in open loop mode but I did not read that part
09:35 PM BeachBumPete: so you are able to power and turn the motor electrically in open loop then
09:35 PM adamj12b-web_: BeachBumPete: Correct.
09:35 PM BeachBumPete: and you are saying that you get encoder feedback and it is correct but you are still getting following errors
09:36 PM adamj12b-web_: Correct
09:37 PM adamj12b-web_: Per Andypugh's suggestion here: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/30-cnc-machines/33016-fryer-mb-11-bed-mill-retrofit#96928
09:37 PM BeachBumPete: I don't have my .ini files available right now but should max output on axis zero be zero?
09:38 PM adamj12b-web_: I slowed the PID loop down to almost nothing and watched the pid.x.error in halmonitor
09:38 PM adamj12b-web_: and noticed I needed to invert the encoder direction. After no luck still, I came here.
09:39 PM adamj12b-web_: I honestly dont know about max output. I tried changing that to 5 with no change in operation.
09:40 PM BeachBumPete: https://pastebin.com/gH2ffk6M
09:40 PM BeachBumPete: this is my Cincinatti arrow 500 .ini X axis info I just found in my PC
09:42 PM adamj12b-web_: Did you say you used DMM as well?
09:43 PM BeachBumPete: well yeah I did say that but not on that particular machine
09:43 PM BeachBumPete: sorry for the confusion
09:43 PM BeachBumPete: those are TECO drives and motors
09:43 PM BeachBumPete: on a metric based machine
09:43 PM adamj12b-web_: Gotcha.
09:44 PM adamj12b-web_: What servo mode did you use with the DMM stuff?
09:44 PM BeachBumPete: but I thought some of these basic settings for enabling and whatnot might help
09:44 PM BeachBumPete: I am still building the machine
09:44 PM BeachBumPete: with the DMM stuff
09:45 PM BeachBumPete: its going into a CNC lathe a Standard Modern CNC 14x45
09:46 PM adamj12b-web_: Cool. Got a build log anywhere?
09:46 PM BeachBumPete: no not really... I chronicled my Cincinatti Arrow 500 build on CNCZone but just been working slowly on this lathe
09:47 PM adamj12b-web_: I like these drives. I used them with some 400W motors on a router in step/direction mode with mach 3.... but im sick of mach and have a real machine that needs a better controller the mach
09:47 PM BeachBumPete: I don't mean to change the subject but what kind of connector are you using to wire the High density inputs on the DMM drives?
09:47 PM BeachBumPete: heh well you are in the right place IMHO
09:48 PM BeachBumPete: I was going to use a sort of printer cable with the same connector and cut and splice the end to keep from having to solder every thing... do you have any pictures of your mockup?
09:50 PM adamj12b-web_: Thats exactly what I did. bought 6ft double end ones on amazon and cut them in half.
09:50 PM adamj12b-web_: https://goo.gl/photos/UMgS4xDnjcWa1ZEZ8
09:50 PM adamj12b-web_: thats as it sits tonight on the coffee table. :)
09:51 PM BeachBumPete: excellent thank you
09:51 PM BeachBumPete: care to share a link to those cables you used?
09:51 PM adamj12b-web_: Im not sure I would do it again, or if they will stay. I need to break out that stupid disable signal and its going to be difficult unless I splice the wires to go to the relay.
09:51 PM BeachBumPete: what kind of machine are you retrofitting?
09:52 PM BeachBumPete: is that what those small green boxes are above the drives?
09:52 PM Tom_L: anybody here use M19 or have an example of it's use?
09:52 PM adamj12b-web_: 1999 Fryer toolroom Bed mill. 30X 20Y 23Z
09:52 PM BeachBumPete: Oh sweet!
09:53 PM BeachBumPete: I knew a guy in Tennessee that had a Freyer bedmill
09:53 PM BeachBumPete: his was rather huge
09:53 PM adamj12b-web_: O yea???!
09:53 PM adamj12b-web_: https://goo.gl/photos/HRATzPdFCdBKM98y9
09:53 PM adamj12b-web_: theres the whole album. and build thread I posted a little bit ago. 22:06
09:53 PM BeachBumPete: looks just like a southwestern industries machine
09:54 PM adamj12b-web_: I wanted a Tormach, been saving, then this came along.
09:54 PM BeachBumPete: you made the right chioce ;)
09:55 PM adamj12b-web_: I wasnt suppose to retrofit it so soon, but shit happened and it needs it now.
09:55 PM BeachBumPete: once it is running that beast will kick a tormach's azz
09:55 PM adamj12b-web_: O yea. Its as big as VF2
09:55 PM BeachBumPete: I love my Cincinatti
09:58 PM BeachBumPete: thats funny your spindle drive is an emerson control techniques... that is who made the original control on my Cinci
09:58 PM adamj12b-web_: O man. that thing looks EPIC
09:58 PM adamj12b-web_: exactly what im trying to get to. a small VMC in my garage.
09:58 PM adamj12b-web_: whats the travels?
09:58 PM BeachBumPete: its only 20x20x20
09:59 PM BeachBumPete: 6k rpm spindle
09:59 PM adamj12b-web_: Weight?
10:00 PM BeachBumPete: like 8k I think
10:00 PM BeachBumPete: are those your DC PPS in the middle there?
10:00 PM BeachBumPete: looks like a meanwell I have those too
10:01 PM BeachBumPete: what main board are you using?
10:01 PM adamj12b-web_: Yes 5V meanwell from Amazon. and 24V Omron
10:02 PM adamj12b-web_: mobo or Mesa?
10:02 PM BeachBumPete: mobo
10:02 PM BeachBumPete: looks like the 5i25/7i77 no?
10:02 PM adamj12b-web_: Its a Jetway MiniITX 1.2ghz fanless with 1GB of ram and 8GB SSD
10:02 PM adamj12b-web_: Correct with a 7i84 in the console.
10:03 PM BeachBumPete: 7I84 is what for switches/buttons etc/
10:03 PM adamj12b-web_: Yes. Here is the console:https://goo.gl/photos/D87BCteM2v9adTSR6
10:04 PM adamj12b-web_: Built it a few years ago for a router that never got finished.
10:04 PM adamj12b-web_: deserved a real machine.
10:04 PM BeachBumPete: holy crap thats nice did you make that?
10:04 PM BeachBumPete: please tell me you live in Florida LOL
10:05 PM adamj12b-web_: Yes I made it. :D
10:05 PM adamj12b-web_: No. MA. But happy to help
10:05 PM adamj12b-web_: It was actually pretty easy.
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: did you get the premade motor cables?
10:06 PM adamj12b-web_: Buttons were salvaged from machines over the years. Layout was done in 2d cad and transfered to vector images, vinyl printed and cut.
10:06 PM adamj12b-web_: From DMM, Yes. its not worth the time or money to build. I looked.
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: yeah I did too..
10:06 PM BeachBumPete: definitely worth it
10:07 PM BeachBumPete: so thats XYZ from right to left no?
10:09 PM adamj12b-web_: where?
10:09 PM BeachBumPete: bottom left your drive setup I was looking at your wiring setup to the 7i77
10:11 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Currently yes, but i will flip it. I have been testing with a single axis so just picked one.
10:11 PM BeachBumPete: thats what I figured
10:12 PM Adamj12b-mobile: The board will be wired for 4 axis with space for 2 more for tool changer or trunion.
10:12 PM BeachBumPete: OOH LALA
10:12 PM BeachBumPete: what is that cat cable going into the 7i77 for?
10:13 PM Adamj12b-mobile: I intend to do some kind of umbrella tool changer but need to figure out the kurt screw power drawbar. Only real drawback to the machine.
10:13 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Its the high speed serial to the 7i84.
10:14 PM BeachBumPete: ah ok that makes sense
10:14 PM Adamj12b-mobile: I might move to a 7i47?? 8 channel serial on port 2 if I need to add more io.
10:21 PM BeachBumPete: still trying to figure out why you are getting the errors
10:21 PM Adamj12b-mobile: I took a video. Give me a minute to sit and ill link it. Just Getting some food.
10:23 PM BeachBumPete: I can say that the PID tuning was kinda a PIA but I ended up with FF1 setting that made a difference. when your drives are enabled in open loop are they quiet or do they hunt/dither a lot?
10:25 PM adamj12b-web_: they do not hun at all
10:25 PM BeachBumPete: so the factory settings are pretty close then I guess nice
10:25 PM adamj12b-web_: ok first video: https://goo.gl/photos/ryoHfbN4tJeTicQw5 this is doing a G01 X-10 F2. you can see it doesnt even try to move the servo
10:27 PM BeachBumPete: did you just minimize the UI?
10:27 PM adamj12b-web_: its off to the left.
10:27 PM adamj12b-web_: 22" Widescreen monitor.
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: but you are not getting any actual voltage at the drive analog inputs right
10:29 PM BeachBumPete: do you have field I/O Power hooked up on the 7i77?
10:29 PM adamj12b-web_: correct to both,
10:31 PM adamj12b-web_: The second video is still processing...only 20 seconds long...but it shows me turning the shaft by hand. when the position transitions the 0 point, i can feed it fight a slight bit. and you can see the output in halmeter change
10:32 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Try this. https://goo.gl/photos/mKSMFV3LVjkBLVgZ8
10:34 PM BeachBumPete: I don't understand that part if the motor is enabled correctly you should not be able to turn the shaft at all... it should lock down and fight any turning in either direction
10:34 PM BeachBumPete: I cannot view that video yet apparently
10:36 PM BeachBumPete: if the motor is getting power and it is actually enabled and you can spin it by hand there is something very wrong there. What is the little green block above each drive that lead to L1/L2?
10:37 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Line power filter for drive logic.
10:37 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Emi filter suggested in thebmanual.
10:38 PM BeachBumPete: one thing you can try if it is easy to access is to put a 9v battery on the analog inputs to get movement but again nothing is gonna move really until the drive is actually enabled.
10:38 PM BeachBumPete: ah ok that makes sense
10:40 PM BeachBumPete: I have never powered my DMM's yet is there not an enabled indicator light or something? My Teco's have an actual display that shows encoder position or errors etc.
10:45 PM adamj12b-web_: No, no enable indicator. since they are enabled all the time unless you disable them.
10:45 PM adamj12b-web_: there is an encoder position through the serial link
10:48 PM adamj12b-web_: You wanted these links. DB25 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026K9KGC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and DB9 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026K2JM4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
10:48 PM BeachBumPete: so your drives are enabled since you did not hook up the disable line and you are hitting enable in linuxCNC and monitoring in hal those inputs/outputs then
10:48 PM BeachBumPete: OH hey thanks man
10:48 PM BeachBumPete: I thought they were something other than DB25 but I was not sure
10:50 PM Adamj12b-mobile: https://youtu.be/LNixgapaOdE
10:50 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Try that.
10:51 PM BeachBumPete: well the motor works ;)
10:51 PM adamj12b-web_: Told Ya! :P
10:52 PM BeachBumPete: the drives enabled there obviously but for some reason it is not getting enabled when in linuxCNC mode
10:52 PM BeachBumPete: or perhaps some input is wrong and that is disabling it due to error?
10:52 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Here is the one from earlier that Google didn't process. https://youtu.be/-_tP2jfNBt0
10:54 PM adamj12b-web_: Before I slowed the PID way down, I would get one hard hit and it would trip. but it still wasnt locked.
10:55 PM pcw_home: Are you sure the drives are programmed for velocity mode?
10:55 PM adamj12b-web_: The drive is programmed for Torque mode.
10:55 PM BeachBumPete: I am wondering if linuxCNC is not enabling because of the lack of output or something?
10:56 PM pcw_home: I would use velocity mode if its available
10:56 PM BeachBumPete: when you hit F2 does the little button turn red/orange?
10:56 PM adamj12b-web_: not sure. Im going to open some more monitor windows tomorrow and check out the PID process.
10:56 PM adamj12b-web_: um..f2 being? enable?
10:56 PM BeachBumPete: yeah
10:57 PM BeachBumPete: or you can mouse click it
10:57 PM adamj12b-web_: Ive shutdown the machine for the night. I will let you know. but in Axis, I hit the estop button, then the power button. then home axis then i can start testing
10:57 PM adamj12b-web_: when follow error fails, i have to repower
10:59 PM BeachBumPete: I am sorry I could not help you here
10:59 PM BeachBumPete: I am gonna hafta get to bed work tomorrow early ;)
10:59 PM BeachBumPete: it was nice chatting with you tho.
10:59 PM BeachBumPete: if you don't get it sorted I will be back tomorrow evening most likely
10:59 PM BeachBumPete: nice to meet someone building a very similar system to my own.
10:59 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: that lathe I linked an image to
11:00 PM adamj12b-web_: BeachBumPete: dont feel bad. Just taking it one piece at a time.
11:00 PM BeachBumPete: tiwake?
11:00 PM tiwake: BeachBumPete: a guy I know finally got me a shipping price: $1,500 and he wants $500 for the machine
11:00 PM adamj12b-web_: I will be back at it tomorrow evening.
11:00 PM BeachBumPete: tiwake sounds reasonable if its all there and not worn the hell out..
11:00 PM tiwake: the hardinge CNC lathe, gang-tooling
11:01 PM tiwake: it needs a controller, but as far as I know, thats it
11:01 PM adamj12b-web_: BeachBumPete: forgot to tell you, those videos were taking using the PID and feed error from your .ini you linked.
11:01 PM BeachBumPete: some guys here have done that retrofit would be able to help you a lot more than I would as far as advice on it what to look for
11:02 PM BeachBumPete: That guys Nick something has two of them I believe already retrofit and I think SSI has one similar to that on here
11:03 PM BeachBumPete: Adamj12b-mobile ok I understand. from what you have told me here tonight I am thinking it is either a software setting in linuxCNC or something about that enable setup in the 7i77/linuxCNC that is the problem but pcw is the expert here far beyond my knowledge
11:03 PM BeachBumPete: good luck I am sure we will chat again soon.
11:04 PM BeachBumPete: Goodnight folks
11:04 PM adamj12b-web_: Night!
11:04 PM BeachBumPete: :)
11:19 PM CaptHindsight: for got to ask him if he has the encoders going to the drive as well as the 7i77, pretty usre he does
11:23 PM CaptHindsight: for torque mode he's only need the encoders going back to the 7i77
11:23 PM CaptHindsight: he's/he's
11:27 PM adamj12b-web_: hey CaptHindsight
11:27 PM CaptHindsight: did he post any ini file?
11:27 PM CaptHindsight: you're back
11:27 PM adamj12b-web_: the encoders are high speed serial and have to go to the drive first. there is an encoder output that is passed to the 7i77 on encoder channel 3
11:28 PM adamj12b-web_: yes! for a short bit
11:28 PM adamj12b-web_: I did post the files. I can link them again.
11:28 PM CaptHindsight: let me read the backlog
11:28 PM CaptHindsight: I'm tired so blind
11:28 PM adamj12b-web_: HAL file https://pastebin.com/Gnduk5mg INI File https://pastebin.com/9pe1GW4f
11:29 PM CaptHindsight: which error do you get again?
11:29 PM CaptHindsight: joint error?
11:30 PM adamj12b-web_: Correct
11:30 PM adamj12b-web_: I am finishing up a post on my thread that is a summary if you want to wait. :)
11:32 PM CaptHindsight: which axis are you testing? and is the joint error for the axis you are testing?
11:32 PM adamj12b-web_: X axis
11:32 PM adamj12b-web_: Yes that one is erroring
11:32 PM adamj12b-web_: I only have one connected for testing
11:33 PM CaptHindsight: joint follow error
11:36 PM CaptHindsight: try chaining the FERROR and MIN_FERROR to 10,000 to see if it starts to spin the motor the correct direction
11:37 PM CaptHindsight: chaining/changing
11:37 PM adamj12b-web_: OK. I will give it a show in the AM before I head into work and report back.
11:37 PM CaptHindsight: so it will run for longer without throwing a following error
11:38 PM adamj12b-web_: Here is the thread post with the summary. Ill check back in the morning for anything anybody says
11:38 PM adamj12b-web_: https://forum.linuxcnc.org/30-cnc-machines/33016-fryer-mb-11-bed-mill-retrofit?start=10#96958
11:38 PM adamj12b-web_: Night!
11:43 PM CaptHindsight: FERROR and MIN_FERROR are in machine units
11:44 PM CaptHindsight: not inches
11:46 PM CaptHindsight: heh, too tired
11:47 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Machine units?
11:47 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Y wouldnt that be inch's if that's what the machine is set up for?
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: yeah you're in inches
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: I'm tired
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: i bet you have a direction or scale flipped
11:48 PM CaptHindsight: tomorrow
11:48 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Oo np. Me too. :)
11:49 PM Adamj12b-mobile: Tomorrow is another day. Ill report what I find with the ferror
