12:04 AM Vitran: Just finished watching an anime movie. Kimi No Na Wa/Your Name (2016). It is interesting how the story structure, plot developments, and scene choices work in different films. I can see why it wouldn't work in the West, but it made a third of a billion. I'm surprised I heard next to nothing when it came out.
12:07 AM LeelooMinai: I am sure this channel is full of anime fans:p
12:23 AM Vitran: I have watched too much anime tbh. Currently I have trouble caring about live action shows
12:24 AM LeelooMinai: I did not watch one Anime in my life for some reason, even though sci-fi/fantasy is my favourite. Well, I downloaded that new-ish movie, Ghost in the Shell, but did not watch it yet.
12:25 AM Vitran: um, I would not suggest it
12:26 AM Vitran: I would far more suggest the original anime one. The new one they removed all the important bits. Sort of like take Inception and remove all the discussion parts and keep all the action. That is what the new Ghost in the Shell is
12:26 AM IchGucksLive: hi from Germany
12:26 AM Vitran: Hello!
12:28 AM IchGucksLive: getting a nicehard day today new driveway to be made
12:28 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden
02:39 AM Deejay: moin
02:39 AM pink_vampire: hi Deejay
02:39 AM XXCoder: heys
02:44 AM pink_vampire: Deejay: http://imgur.com/a/MeKEF
02:45 AM Deejay: heya pink & XXCoder
02:45 AM pink_vampire: this a new part that I finished
02:45 AM Deejay: whee, looks nice
02:45 AM Deejay: what is the red ball?
02:46 AM archivist: datum ball
02:46 AM pink_vampire: ruby sphere
02:46 AM Deejay: uh, nice
02:46 AM Deejay: ruby :)
02:46 AM archivist: datum sphere is the other name it goes by in the CMM world
02:48 AM archivist: second hand they cost too much for the calibrated ones
02:49 AM pink_vampire: this is the 8mm tip
02:49 AM archivist: I used a 4mm tip to try out my CMM
02:50 AM pink_vampire: what cmm do you have?
02:51 AM archivist: an old Brown and Sharpe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XIscw-ciEg
02:52 AM archivist: unloading and putting in garage http://www.collection.archivist.info/searchv13.php?searchstr=cmm+pd
02:53 AM pink_vampire: look very nice
02:54 AM archivist: not that good, but I never expected to be able to afford or ever get one
02:55 AM archivist: but these days used old ones are getting a lot more affordable on ebay
02:56 AM pink_vampire: I don't need one
02:56 AM archivist: need!
02:56 AM archivist: that was never the required excuse
02:57 AM pink_vampire: I need good rails first
02:57 AM archivist: want
02:57 AM XXCoder: shop I work for recently added 3 delta CMM
02:57 AM XXCoder: sadly it was for part that we couldn't make accurately
02:58 AM XXCoder: so those is essentally useless now lol
03:05 AM LeelooMinai: So what, you would have Fake News CMM - that's fine:)
03:06 AM pink_vampire: any idea how to cut round disc from a plate
03:06 AM archivist: the software to use my CMM is terrible, or maybe its the manual
03:06 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: will disc have holes anywhere in it?
03:06 AM pink_vampire: no
03:07 AM XXCoder: then do it in parts, sides then change clamps then do other sides
03:07 AM pink_vampire: i need 1/2" circle
03:07 AM XXCoder: ah tiny one
03:07 AM XXCoder: what is precision needed?
03:07 AM LeelooMinai: pink_vampire: I made a round disk of maple for my desk once using a hand router - I made and arm for it, nailed it in the midle and went in circles with progressive depths. This probably will work for alu fine. Super MacGyver, but works.
03:08 AM pink_vampire: but round as possible
03:08 AM archivist: pink_vampire, clockmakers use https://www.workshopheaven.com/hand-tools/saws/jewellers-and-coping-saws.html
03:08 AM LeelooMinai: A, I thought a circle of large size - like a foot in diameter.
03:08 AM archivist: make oversize and turn
03:08 AM LeelooMinai: 1/2, meh - I guess even bi-metal circular saw will work...
03:09 AM XXCoder: could make disc with stems to hold it in place during cutting
03:09 AM XXCoder: then file spurs
03:09 AM pink_vampire: normally i just use the xy on the mill, but it will never be a round object
03:10 AM archivist: the other way if mount on a rotary, you get a better round
03:10 AM XXCoder: honestly lathe with it superglued on is best way, from what I see on clickspring
03:10 AM LeelooMinai: You would probably have to spin it somehow.
03:10 AM XXCoder: ah I got a stupid idea
03:10 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: cut sections off 1/2" rod, then use mill to make flat sides
03:10 AM pink_vampire: I have super flat material
03:11 AM LeelooMinai: What is the material?
03:11 AM pink_vampire: I just need to cut the disc
03:12 AM pink_vampire: I think aluminum
03:13 AM LeelooMinai: Can it have a hole in the middle?
03:13 AM archivist: you can also use a hole saw
03:13 AM pink_vampire: I don't have one
03:13 AM XXCoder: core drill lol those are pretty imprecise
03:14 AM pink_vampire: I think I will use the xy on the machine with very close gibs and make it a bit smaller then 1/2"
03:14 AM archivist: make oversize and clean up!
03:15 AM archivist: use the mill spindle as a lathe
03:43 AM pink_vampire: is there an easy way to cut silicon carbide plate?
03:43 AM JesusAlos: Hi
03:43 AM archivist: diamond paste and a copp
03:43 AM JesusAlos: I'm looking for a Gcode converter
03:43 AM archivist: diamond paste and a copper disk
03:44 AM pink_vampire: hi JesusAlos
03:44 AM JesusAlos: I have a Gcode generate from Tebis to Heidenhain machine.
03:44 AM JesusAlos: and want to convert to linuxcnc
03:45 AM JesusAlos: because I don't have Tebis post processor
03:45 AM archivist: fix the post processor in your CAM
03:45 AM pink_vampire: you need to edit your post processor
03:45 AM archivist: try the Fanuc one as your starting point
03:46 AM pink_vampire: http://www.tebis.com/us/en/
03:46 AM JesusAlos: I think doesn't very easy to edit a Tebis post processor
03:47 AM pink_vampire: you take the similar that work, and modify it
03:48 AM JesusAlos: I see
03:49 AM pink_vampire: what machine do you have?
03:50 AM JesusAlos: In Tebis have Heidenhain
03:50 AM JesusAlos: only
03:51 AM JesusAlos: I'm think in use a Gcode converter or some think like that
03:51 AM XXCoder: wow pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN5TgT-I49I
03:51 AM JesusAlos: Because I don't know in change a Tebis postprocessor
03:52 AM pink_vampire: why Tebis?
03:54 AM JesusAlos: Is the CAM that use my partner
03:54 AM pink_vampire: what cad are you using?
03:56 AM JesusAlos: I'm usually use Cambam
03:56 AM pink_vampire: did you try solidworks?
03:57 AM JesusAlos: No, I don't.
03:57 AM JesusAlos: But now they don't want to change their CAM software.
03:59 AM pink_vampire: http://www.tebis.com/us/en/services/implementation/postprocessors/
04:00 AM archivist: that means expensive, use a different cam
04:02 AM pink_vampire: JesusAlos: to move from cambam to solidworks, is almost no effort
04:03 AM pink_vampire: did you try F360?
04:05 AM JesusAlos: I know about F360, but didn't use it befor.
04:05 AM JesusAlos: before
04:07 AM pink_vampire: why cambam??
04:08 AM JesusAlos: because is very cheap
04:09 AM pink_vampire: it is 2d only?
04:09 AM JesusAlos: 3D also
04:09 AM JesusAlos: but very basic
04:12 AM pink_vampire: are you making only 2d cuts?
04:14 AM JesusAlos: no, we are making only 3D geometries
04:16 AM pink_vampire: so you are using very limited cad software, just because it's cheap??
04:18 AM JesusAlos: I think there are a mistake. I don't have problem with Cambam. The problem is with my partner, who use Tebis.
04:19 AM JesusAlos: He can't use an other CAM different from TEBIS because is the unic licence that he has.
04:20 AM JesusAlos: So, before change the CAM software to other different one, we are trying to convert the Gcode
04:20 AM JesusAlos: Gcode exit
04:20 AM pink_vampire: what is soo special about tebis?
04:21 AM XXCoder: JesusAlos: gcode dont really vary that much, you could edit gcode to be compitable to your machine if thats needed
04:21 AM XXCoder: its typically "other" gcodes that needs converting, not normal movement gcode
04:22 AM pink_vampire: you can post here a gcode sample?
04:24 AM archivist: use a pastebin
04:24 AM XXCoder: pink_vampire: apparently university license for tebis disallow student there to use any other cad.
04:24 AM XXCoder: weird
04:24 AM archivist: lock in
04:24 AM archivist: all about getting the users hooked
04:25 AM XXCoder: I know of offering students REALLY cheap licenses but specifically disallowing is weird
04:27 AM archivist: probably not legal
04:27 AM XXCoder: probably not in usa, dunno if hes in usa too heh
04:29 AM JesusAlos: https://pastebin.com/yfsMYcn3
04:32 AM archivist: you need to understand both dialects of gcode and both machines to write a converter
04:33 AM pink_vampire: why they send Z2,000 each line???
04:33 AM archivist: CAM often does silly stuff
04:34 AM archivist: and, the machine may require it
04:36 AM pink_vampire: JesusAlos: it going to take you loooong time to fix the gcode
04:36 AM XXCoder: wow
04:36 AM XXCoder: that is... very different
04:36 AM pink_vampire: L is maybe G1
04:36 AM XXCoder: looks like it yes
04:36 AM XXCoder: cycl seems to be definitions of some stuff
04:36 AM JesusAlos: No. L is line N000
04:36 AM JesusAlos: I undestand the Gcode lines and how to convert
04:36 AM pink_vampire: remove line 1 to 13
04:37 AM JesusAlos: the problem is I'm looking for the way to do automatically
04:37 AM pink_vampire: L X-1174,999 Y-970,001 Z150,000 R0 F13500 M03
04:37 AM archivist: write an awk script to do it
04:37 AM JesusAlos: yes, I think I must to do a program
04:39 AM pink_vampire: just use good tools from the beginning, or you will likely crush your machine proudly.
05:37 AM jthornton: morning
05:37 AM pink_vampire: hi jthornton
05:39 AM jthornton: what's up today
05:42 AM pink_vampire: jthornton: did you saw the part that I did?
05:44 AM jthornton: no
05:45 AM pink_vampire: http://imgur.com/a/MeKEF
05:45 AM pink_vampire: jthornton: ^
05:47 AM jthornton: nice, a test standard?
05:48 AM pink_vampire: tool setter and datum
05:53 AM Loetmichel: pink_vampire: is that a "touch ruby" or just a glass ball as a handle?
05:53 AM Loetmichel: (i have no idea what size that object is)
05:54 AM archivist: 8mm dia
05:55 AM pink_vampire: http://www.renishaw.com/shop/Product.aspx?Product=A-5000-4158
05:57 AM archivist: I wish Renishaw had their cable prices on their site
05:58 AM pink_vampire: what is so special about their cable?
05:59 AM Loetmichel: pink_vampire: ouch, priecey.
05:59 AM archivist: pink_vampire, the connectors
06:00 AM pink_vampire: you can show me?
06:02 AM archivist: it is in their cable guide pdf and here on a sellers site https://cmmtechnology.com/product/pl33-cmm-motorized-probe-head-cable/
06:02 AM archivist: pl33 http://www.renishaw.com/en/cmm-cables--6672
06:03 AM archivist: the problem end is "90 degree Tuchel socket"
06:04 AM pink_vampire: http://www.g.ebay.com/itm/Renishaw-CMM-PH9-PH10-Motorized-Probe-to-Z-Quill-Cable-with-90-Day-Warranty/222190497095
06:04 AM pink_vampire: that?
06:05 AM archivist: PL33 is a longer version of that, the right angle connector
06:06 AM pink_vampire: https://www.lemo.com/en
06:06 AM pink_vampire: just get the connectors
06:07 AM archivist: that is the shiny end, dont need that
06:07 AM archivist: the tuchel is not lemo
06:08 AM archivist: seems to be a german connector but the website is unusable to find the right connector
06:08 AM archivist: and Renishaw dont tell you the exact connector type
06:10 AM pink_vampire: did you try to contact them?
06:11 AM pink_vampire: do you have a clear picture of the connector?
06:11 AM pink_vampire: so I can look for it
06:12 AM archivist: when you look on the amphenol/tuchel site there are 500+ to look at
06:13 AM archivist: so dont bother it is too much work
06:13 AM pink_vampire: http://www.metrologyparts.com/renishaw-cmm-ph9-ph10-motorized-probe-to-z-quill-cable-with-90-day-warranty-a-1016-7674/
06:13 AM archivist: but I only payed 40 for the head :)
06:13 AM Loetmichel: tuchel is a german prerunner of XLR. both in "Normal" an "mini" size
06:14 AM pink_vampire: how many pins you have in the connector?
06:14 AM archivist: 14
06:14 AM pink_vampire: round?
06:14 AM archivist: yes
06:15 AM Loetmichel: there should be a type number on the plug somewhere
06:15 AM Loetmichel: is it bajonet or metric thread?
06:15 AM archivist: the plug is embedded in the head, no thread
06:16 AM pink_vampire: it is more then 14 pins but only 14 used?
06:16 AM Loetmichel: the plug isnt secured in the socket at all?
06:16 AM archivist: I think it may be a special because of the tight space
06:16 AM pink_vampire: https://www.digikey.com/products/en/connectors-interconnects/circular-connectors/436?FV=ffe001b4&mnonly=0&ColumnSort=0&page=1&stock=0&pbfree=0&rohs=0&cad=0&datasheet=0&nstock=0&photo=0&nonrohs=0&newproducts=0&quantity=0&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25
06:17 AM archivist: digikey wont let me look
06:17 AM pink_vampire: https://www.digikey.com/products/en/connectors-interconnects/circular-connectors/436?k=&pkeyword=&pv88=30&pv88=991&pv88=735&FV=ffe001b4&mnonly=0&ColumnSort=0&page=1&quantity=0&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25
06:17 AM archivist: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading
06:17 AM archivist: the web has become broken
06:18 AM pink_vampire: just take a pic of the connecvtor on the head
06:18 AM pink_vampire: and let me try find it
06:18 AM archivist: it is in a deep hole
06:19 AM malcom2073: archivist: What browser/version are you using? :P
06:20 AM pink_vampire: http://i.ebayimg.com/images/a/(KGrHqNHJCUFCmTk5n47BQycpYOv-w~~/s-l1600.jpg
06:20 AM pink_vampire: that one?
06:21 AM archivist: ebay did not like that link Something went wrong. We're sorry
06:22 AM archivist: yes that top right image
06:22 AM malcom2073: That looks like a limo connector (the silver one)
06:22 AM pink_vampire: he talkabout the other one
06:22 AM malcom2073: Ah ok
06:23 AM archivist: it is right angle tuchel
06:23 AM malcom2073: yeah that does look like a cpc
06:23 AM archivist: CPC is a distributor over here
06:34 AM archivist: http://www.collection.archivist.info/searchv13.php?searchstr=ph10t
06:36 AM archivist: the way it mounts to a machine will keep the connector in
06:39 AM pink_vampire: it is look like off the shelf product
06:40 AM archivist: as a straight on it probably is off the shelf, but not sure about right angle, nor the name/number of that particular connector
06:42 AM pink_vampire: why the 90 deg is so critical?
06:42 AM archivist: the CMM will be directly above
06:42 AM malcom2073: Are those pins spring loaded?
06:42 AM archivist: no
06:43 AM malcom2073: Hmm ok
06:43 AM archivist: 1mm round pins from a D type fit :)
06:43 AM archivist: so I will probably make something
06:44 AM pink_vampire: what is the silver thing in the middle?
06:44 AM archivist: rivet holding the plastic together
06:45 AM archivist: D types use two bits of plastic to grip the pins
06:45 AM pink_vampire: what about desolder the connector and install something that you know
06:46 AM archivist: its a probe head, I dont want to get dust and crap in it
06:47 AM archivist: I have peeked in the top, and getting all the way in is more "interesting"
07:13 AM pink_vampire: archivist I'm here...
07:55 AM archivist: optical "CMM" to measure pin locations on that connector http://www.collection.archivist.info/archive/DJCPD/PD/2017/2017_07_15_Renishaw_PH10T/IMG_2571.JPG
08:04 AM pink_vampire: load
08:04 AM pink_vampire: cool!!!
08:06 AM pink_vampire: are you making the drawing for that?
08:07 AM archivist: shame the camera focused too high, the notes are written on the postit note
08:08 AM pink_vampire: I just cut the super flat material to 1/2" circle and polish the edge
08:08 AM archivist: straight to gcode if I can find some plastic and a way to hold it
08:26 AM pink_vampire: http://i.imgur.com/94rzIqT.png?1
08:29 AM archivist: why have you got nuts in your cup
08:29 AM * jthornton thinks there is only one nut
08:30 AM archivist: an optical delusion
08:34 AM pink_vampire: the nut is just to show the reflection
08:49 AM wdz: ahoj
08:53 AM pink_vampire: wdz: ??
08:54 AM wdz: is anyone aware of any documented usage of 8254 or 8253 timer with hal?
08:54 AM wdz: like the driver which works with generic isa 8255 cards, some had timers too. Do i need to make the driver myself?
08:55 AM archivist: why, when timers are in linuxcnc itself
08:56 AM archivist: and those sorts of cards are probably getting vary rare
08:57 AM wdz: well, i have some. and it is not very hard to make them and chips come in buckets...
08:57 AM archivist: I dont remember seeing one for eons
08:58 AM wdz: well i was thinking more about using it for pwm not to use cpu power for this
08:59 AM wdz: i'll try to see what can be done on some old pentium or 486...
09:00 AM wdz: then there are core2duo mobos with isa.
09:00 AM archivist: the OS's are beginning to drop support
09:00 AM * Loetmichel still has some i7 boards at the company that have ISA slots
09:01 AM Loetmichel: industrial boards... not that cheap though
09:01 AM wdz: yes
09:02 AM archivist: unfortunately the upgrade gravy train is beginning to ignore the older stuff
09:03 AM Loetmichel: https://www.ieiworld.com/de/product/model.php?II=5 <- for example
09:03 AM sync: well, not supporting legacy is the only way forwards
09:04 AM archivist: not really it is rude and unkind to existing hardware owners
09:04 AM wdz: i dont need no BGAs... sure you can have some cool fpga programmed for anything, but drop that on the floor...
09:05 AM sync: how is not supporting old hardware rude? you gotta update at some point
09:05 AM archivist: problem is the amount of volunteer work needed
09:05 AM Loetmichel: ups. wrong one. but IEI has some
09:05 AM wdz: in kernel shouldnt it be supported with no problem? pc104 is propably still up and running
09:05 AM sync: it would be like using a dull cutter, while you can do it there is no reason to
09:06 AM archivist: wdz, no they are dropping 32 bit etc
09:06 AM wdz: wtf
09:07 AM archivist: old working hardware is nothing like a worn cutter
09:07 AM sync: I disagree, but ok
09:08 AM sync: but there is no reason to support 32 bit nowadays really
09:08 AM malcom2073: If enough people disagree, support continues
09:08 AM malcom2073: If not enough disagree, support drops :)
09:10 AM wdz: you all should have obey to have the 640k as 'enough'
09:12 AM wdz: old reliable hardware should not be left to run with no support
09:12 AM malcom2073: wdz: Nobody would be able to afford to produce hardware if it required lifetime support though
09:13 AM sync: that depends on the industry
09:13 AM sync: railway safety equipment has 75 years of anticipated service life
09:13 AM malcom2073: Sorta like cars. Mfgs are only required to garuntee parts for a certain number of years. After that, the only reason you can get aftermarket parts is because companies find it economical to do so.
09:14 AM wdz: the only support is when you have to port the driver to the newer kernel, like some old forgotten stuff for 2.4 to 2.6
09:14 AM wdz: i dont even know what is fresh now. 6.7.89?
09:15 AM wdz: and they drop support for all 32bit only cpus in 7.0
09:15 AM malcom2073: That's no harder than making windows 95 automation software work on windows 10
09:15 AM wdz: when am i?
09:15 AM wdz: its linuxcnc...
09:15 AM malcom2073: I'm sure you can pay someone to do it though
09:18 AM wdz: so you want to forget about 8253, but if I write the driver, can you help me to use correct ways to control stuff so it would work in future?
09:20 AM malcom2073: Me personally? I have no use for it. You might be able to find someone who does by posting on the forums though.
09:21 AM malcom2073: Or mailing list maybe?
09:21 AM wdz: here be no developers?
09:22 AM archivist: some are lurking
09:22 AM malcom2073: There are a couple
09:22 AM malcom2073: But this is a great place for instant chat, not so much for leaving messages to be found later
09:22 AM wdz: i will not have many questions
09:22 AM wdz: more about organization...
09:23 AM archivist: remember people are using FPGA to move stuff off the cpu
09:24 AM wdz: like where to put code to use existing 8255 driver to read connected external counter with quadrature input. just like DRO, so the function is called periodically from some thread?
09:24 AM archivist: more configurable than old chips
09:24 AM wdz: hehe
09:26 AM archivist: last time I designed in a counter chip was in the 1980's and we moved to a better AMD chip
09:26 AM wdz: it may be easier to find soviet ttl chip in 20 years than to program an fpga
09:26 AM archivist: you can use the new 1ghz ttl
09:26 AM archivist: 74G series
09:26 AM wdz: there are some HC counters that will allow up to around 100MHz and that is enough for one dollar...
09:26 AM wdz: hmm
09:27 AM wdz: nice to know
09:28 AM archivist: http://www.potatosemi.com/
09:28 AM wdz: it looks like i don't need a lot of chip around 8255 to get the encoder working
09:30 AM sync: you can just buy a mesa card and all the fpga programming is already done
09:31 AM wdz: maybe i will
09:31 AM wdz: how fast do they count?
09:32 AM wdz: i already have quad 8255 board
09:32 AM sync: couple of MHz
09:33 AM wdz: board works, possibly the IDC50 connectors are pin compatible with some extension boards from mesa
09:33 AM wdz: ax5214h driver
09:34 AM archivist: you are reinventing a wheel that went out of fashion many years ago
09:35 AM archivist: FPGA or or plain cmos/ttl makes more sense
09:39 AM wdz: thats plain cmos
09:40 AM wdz: 74insertfavourite194 go up and down after quadrature decoder
09:40 AM archivist: make sure your counter is large enough
09:40 AM wdz: then row of latches, 74138 for /oe selection (or directly...)
09:41 AM archivist: and use pci not isa bus
09:41 AM archivist: now worry about bus speed and the parts you are using
09:42 AM wdz: why not isa?
09:42 AM archivist: its a comatose technology
09:43 AM wdz: simple?
09:43 AM wdz: unbreakable?
09:43 AM archivist: I have no working ISA these days
09:43 AM wdz: then why not if its even for free?
09:43 AM wdz: "that's not my problem" :P
09:43 AM wdz: it will work for me
09:43 AM archivist: the OS and the rest of the software wont support the board
09:44 AM wdz: which os?
09:44 AM archivist: like I said 32 bit is being dropped
09:44 AM wdz: man where
09:45 AM wdz: your claim is like a bullshit falling from the sky
09:45 AM wdz: linux will not support IA32?
09:45 AM wdz: or windows 11?
09:45 AM archivist: http://www.networkworld.com/article/3091818/linux/linux-distros-look-to-drop-32-bit-support.html
09:47 AM wdz: well it looks more like ubuntu dropping the support.
09:47 AM wdz: will debian guys do the same?
09:48 AM archivist: ubuntu in based on debian!
09:48 AM archivist: so yes
09:48 AM archivist: https://itsfoss.com/end-of-32-bit-linux/
09:49 AM wdz: their live may be too big for dual layer dvd and i dont care
09:49 AM archivist: for linuxcnc we rely on the realtime extras
09:50 AM wdz: i got into bad things when i wanted linux rt and comedi...
09:50 AM wdz: for the linuxcnc part, the distro works, driver works,
09:52 AM wdz: what i need is code put in the RT part to read the content of the latches. It would use read/write function a few times. This can be done in hal later but i believe it will be ineficient.
09:55 AM sync: ethernet is the way to go, unless you have a high data rate I'd never put something directly into the machine
09:57 AM JT-Shop: hmm crickets prefer cat food over rabbit food 10 to 1
10:06 AM * pcw_home thinks JT-Shop is breeding a new generation of meat eating killer crickets
10:07 AM archivist: building a food chain, which is the top of the tree crickets or chickens
10:15 AM JT-Shop: my 1/4" cricket separator seems to work much better than the 3/16" one that only had two crickets all night
10:15 AM * JT-Shop needs to make a few more 1/4" hole end caps for the tubes
10:38 AM tiwake: what defines a master machinist?
10:39 AM archivist: experience and training
10:39 AM tiwake: its not just that though
10:39 AM malcom2073: tiwake: A sign they hang in their shop to make customers feel better? :P
10:40 AM archivist: what else is there
10:40 AM tiwake: iunno... but experience and training is just qualifications to being good at something
10:40 AM archivist: they could be a member of some "professional" organisation with a stickyfoot
10:41 AM tiwake: what gives the extra edge to make a master at a craft?
10:41 AM archivist: a portfolio of work done
10:42 AM archivist: recognition fellow of some society
10:53 AM JT-Shop: now I have to make a raised bed garden on a flat spot behind the shop up the hill a bit next to the woods where the deer and rabbits live...
10:53 AM JT-Shop: a polk plant doesn't have a chance behind the shop...

12:25 PM Frank_10: hi
12:37 PM pink_vampire: hi Frank_10
01:09 PM archivist: pink_vampire, found a version of that connector made by a US company but only 12 pin
01:10 PM pink_vampire: maybe you can take the pins and make your own version
01:10 PM archivist: I have pins from a D type that fit, just trying to find some plastic
01:11 PM pink_vampire: cast it in some resin
01:12 PM archivist: hmm have some 20 year old clear resin, I wonder if it will still work
01:14 PM pink_vampire: i'm using j-b weld for making stuff like that
01:15 PM pink_vampire: you can even bake it a bit to make it hard
01:17 PM SpeedEvil: pretty much all epoxies only cure part way
01:17 PM SpeedEvil: If you heat them up, then they go slightly soft, while curing more, then get hard
01:17 PM SpeedEvil: and remain harder
01:17 PM pink_vampire: I know
01:23 PM SpeedEvil: yeah - was just commenting for others
02:36 PM dan3wik is now known as dan2wik
02:43 PM dioz: i was wondering why there was never any chat update in this channel
02:43 PM dioz: then i realized the window was scrolled back
02:44 PM dioz: also was wondering why irssi session was insane
02:44 PM pink_vampire: dioz: what do you mean??
02:44 PM dioz: a couple days of chats missed cause i was in the scrollback bufferw
02:44 PM dioz: instead of real-time
02:46 PM pink_vampire: you mean logging?
03:01 PM billykid: hello
03:01 PM pink_vampire: hi
03:03 PM pink_vampire: billykid: ?
03:04 PM billykid: I'm trying pwmgen type 2 with 5i23
03:05 PM billykid: it work but after added lincurve
03:05 PM billykid: Turns in a single direction
03:06 PM billykid: it's right ?
03:06 PM pink_vampire: mmm i have no idea about that
03:06 PM pink_vampire: I'm using simple LPT
03:06 PM billykid: ah
03:08 PM billykid: It's just for testing with orient
04:24 PM * JT-Shop just did nose in hover with the Q100 quadcopter :)
04:31 PM LeelooMinai: lol, fail - tried one of those TP-Link smart sockets in reverse to monitor soilar injecting power into mains - it wrapped over unsigned intergers and started displaying huge numbers, like 2xxxxxx watt.
04:42 PM Tom_itx: tiwake, they still have all 10 fingers and toes
04:43 PM BeachBumPete: Afternoon folks :)
04:43 PM tiwake: Tom_itx: heh
04:43 PM tiwake: Tom_itx: my first boss can not claim that
04:43 PM BeachBumPete: something pretty cool just happened to us here
04:44 PM BeachBumPete: we were saved by technology ;)
04:44 PM Tom_itx: i didn't realize they teach machine tool repair at the local tech
04:44 PM XXCoder: machinist that retires with all fingers and toes win.
04:44 PM JT-Shop: Pete I did my first FPV flight today :)
04:44 PM BeachBumPete: it is amazing isnt it
04:44 PM Tom_itx: went to the open house and started talking to the guy heading it up
04:45 PM BeachBumPete: really cool feeling/experience
04:45 PM Tom_itx: after talking a while, i reaized he used to service my bud's machines
04:45 PM BeachBumPete: anyways I woke up early today
04:45 PM BeachBumPete: and took the wife and kids out for breakfast
04:45 PM JT-Shop: it was short but cool just hovered for 30 seconds or so, after found a setting in cleanflight that made it much more stable
04:46 PM BeachBumPete: then we all headed out to the surf shop and bought a new boogie board for me and then headed to the beach
04:46 PM BeachBumPete: on the way the kids had to use the rest room
04:46 PM BeachBumPete: so my wife took them in there while I waited in the car
04:46 PM BeachBumPete: then we headed to the beach and surfed and sunned out for 2 or three hours
04:46 PM BeachBumPete: then we went to a that restaurant that I built the benches for that recently opened
04:46 PM Phipliv: Anyone know what a selson gravity vise is?
04:47 PM BeachBumPete: so I pull out my cellphone to check my email
04:47 PM Tom_itx: Phipliv sounds to scientific for me
04:47 PM BeachBumPete: and the wife reached in her purse to do the same only to find that SHE LEFT HER CELL PHONE IN THE RESTROOM
04:48 PM BeachBumPete: she is like freaking out and takes the car and drives back to the beach quickly to hopefully find the damn cellphone she JUST BOUGHT
04:48 PM Phipliv: Or just a gravity vise
04:48 PM BeachBumPete: and of course it is GONE
04:48 PM Deejay: gn8
04:48 PM Tom_itx: they've got locators
04:48 PM BeachBumPete: so after bitching and moaning for awhile I called the cell provider
04:48 PM Tom_itx: and ability to deactivate
04:48 PM BeachBumPete: and asked if there is anything they can do
04:48 PM BeachBumPete: they told us to download this family locator app
04:49 PM BeachBumPete: so I did and after some settings changes it shows us a map with a little green dot showing where the phone is!!
04:49 PM BeachBumPete: I was like that is too good to be true...
04:49 PM BeachBumPete: of course the dot is halfway across town about twenty minutes from the beach
04:50 PM BeachBumPete: so we get in the car and haul azz over to the dots location
04:50 PM BeachBumPete: it even shows the house address on the phone
04:50 PM BeachBumPete: I pull into the driveway of this rather nice looking home
04:50 PM LeelooMinai: "And I drive 5 hours around the town, finally track it down, and, guess what - I end up in my own house"
04:50 PM BeachBumPete: go inside and knock on the door
04:50 PM BeachBumPete: this young kid answers the door
04:51 PM BeachBumPete: I say hey I hope I am not bothering you but I was just at the beach and my wife lost her cellphone in the restroom at Jensen Beach
04:51 PM BeachBumPete: He was like OOOHHH WE HAVE IT!!
04:51 PM BeachBumPete: so his sister brings it to me at the door
04:51 PM BeachBumPete: I am STUNNED that worked so well
04:51 PM BeachBumPete: the kids were like we found it and did not know what to do with it
04:52 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: GPS is kind of old, you know:)
04:52 PM BeachBumPete: they were maybe ten or twelve years old
04:52 PM BeachBumPete: LeelooMinai I know you are soo much smarter than I am leeloo
04:52 PM BeachBumPete: and I am just a dumb old fart right
04:52 PM Tom_itx: i found one in the street once and had no way to figure out who the owner was so i just waited for it to ring
04:52 PM BeachBumPete: I am honestly amazed at how quickly we were able to locate that phone halfway across town like that
04:53 PM LeelooMinai: Well, why would you think you are older than me? :)
04:53 PM Tom_itx: BeachBumPete what kind was it?
04:53 PM BeachBumPete: I thought the same thing because we called it like a million times
04:53 PM BeachBumPete: it was an LG G6
04:54 PM BeachBumPete: sure pleased that it is back and my wife was more pissed about losing the special case cover she bought for it than the actual phone LOL
04:54 PM BeachBumPete: so technology saved the day LOL
04:54 PM Tom_itx: so in my case a friend called and i just said, no this is not whoever but i found the phone
04:54 PM BeachBumPete: it even showed what part of the house the phone was in
04:55 PM Tom_itx: could have gone the other way just as easily
04:55 PM BeachBumPete: apparently you can also set it up to sound a very loud alert tone and disable the phone functions if you need to
04:55 PM Tom_itx: yeah
04:55 PM BeachBumPete: Tom_itx Agreed I thought it was gone..
04:56 PM Tom_itx: o
04:56 PM Tom_itx: i've never had to use it but i was aware of those features
04:56 PM BeachBumPete: I mean I was aware of the location features on cellphones for use in emergency situations from when I was a Firefighter
04:57 PM BeachBumPete: but I was not aware of the ability to allow you to track your own phone so precisely like that
04:57 PM BeachBumPete: when we did it we had to have the police activate it thru the cellphone providers
04:57 PM Tom_itx: o
04:57 PM Tom_itx: i'm betting you don't forget it
04:58 PM BeachBumPete: I was just getting ready to buy a new phone for myself
04:58 PM Tom_itx: i'm due for one
04:58 PM BeachBumPete: my LG G3 is getting a bit long in the tooth altho it still works flawlessly
04:58 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Not a Jitterbug? :)
04:58 PM BeachBumPete: my boss just got the LG V20 and that thing is really cool
04:58 PM BeachBumPete: it has some amazing camera features
04:59 PM BeachBumPete: most useful is the simple second camera lens that takes wide angle view photos that are very nice for taking pictures inside small rooms and bathrooms of our cabinet installs
04:59 PM BeachBumPete: when I try to take the same photo with my phone I gotta walk all the way to the corner of the room and hold the phone up in the corner as high as I can get it LOL
05:00 PM BeachBumPete: he just snaps the photo in wide angle and it takes a perfect picture every time.
05:01 PM BeachBumPete: that and the quality of the pictures/camera has evolved considerably
05:01 PM BeachBumPete: Tom_itx What kind of phone are you looking at?
05:01 PM Tom_itx: i'm not really, the contract is coming up though
05:02 PM Tom_itx: i just got her an s8
05:02 PM BeachBumPete: one of the guys from work got one of them does she like it?
05:02 PM Tom_itx: i don't like the wrap around screen though
05:02 PM Tom_itx: she loves it
05:02 PM BeachBumPete: sweet
05:02 PM Tom_itx: not sure it's for me though
05:03 PM BeachBumPete: This is my third LG phone and all have performed perfectly so I will probably get the latest LG again..
05:03 PM Tom_itx: i've got a glass cover on mine but they don't make one for the S8
05:03 PM BeachBumPete: really?
05:04 PM BeachBumPete: I like the glass covers
05:04 PM BeachBumPete: mine has one
05:04 PM Tom_itx: they can't get it to stay on around the sides
05:04 PM Tom_itx: so do i
05:04 PM Tom_itx: the soft ones are worthless
05:04 PM BeachBumPete: are the sides tapered?
05:04 PM Tom_itx: yeah
05:04 PM Tom_itx: wrap around screen
05:04 PM Tom_itx: the S7 isn't that way
05:05 PM JT-Shop: my phone has been paid for a couple of years and they keep sending me "free" upgrade offers lol wtf it works I don't need to buy another phone
05:05 PM BeachBumPete: my wife had the S6 for awhile
05:05 PM BeachBumPete: JT-Shop I know right
05:05 PM Tom_itx: i've had the 4 5 & 6 currently
05:05 PM BeachBumPete: I have been able to upgrade mine for awhile but like you said it works perfectly fine
05:06 PM BeachBumPete: but after seeing my boss's LG v20 I am leaning toward getting one of those
05:06 PM LeelooMinai: I don't have a phone.
05:06 PM LeelooMinai: *tumbleweeds and wind sounds*
05:07 PM BeachBumPete: I do so much stuff with my cellphone now I can't imagine not having one but I did not use to feel that way
05:07 PM JT-Shop: Pete are you flying cleanflight or betaflight?
05:07 PM BeachBumPete: JT-Shop cleanflight but it seems most people like betaflight
05:08 PM BeachBumPete: altho I cannot understand why
05:08 PM JT-Shop: I have cleanflight on the Q100
05:08 PM BeachBumPete: cleanflight works great and is very adjustable
05:08 PM BeachBumPete: the Eachine Wizard X220 we have is amazing on cleanflight
05:08 PM BeachBumPete: it is so damn fast
05:09 PM BeachBumPete: altho I must confess I just recently crashed the hell out of it LOL
05:09 PM * JT-Shop likes slower flight
05:09 PM BeachBumPete: right into the back window of my wifes new SUV
05:09 PM BeachBumPete: luckily it was a glancing blow
05:09 PM BeachBumPete: and did not do much damage except for a scratch from the CF frame
05:09 PM JT-Shop: looks similar to my Tweaker 5"
05:09 PM BeachBumPete: yeah its about 5"
05:10 PM BeachBumPete: you should see the punchout speed
05:10 PM BeachBumPete: its like a model rocket LOL
05:10 PM JT-Shop: http://gnipsel.com/images/tweaker-5/Tweaker-5-04.jpg
05:11 PM BeachBumPete: ooh how do you like the antennea
05:11 PM BeachBumPete: I need to upgrade mine
05:11 PM JT-Shop: http://gnipsel.com/images/tweaker-5/Tweaker-5-05.jpg
05:11 PM JT-Shop: nice clear picture
05:11 PM BeachBumPete: mine is clear too but it does not have a ton of range
05:12 PM BeachBumPete: when I fly it WAY up above my house I can see really far and its nice and clear but if I try to travel away I can only get a few houses over before it starts to fuzz out on me and I get scared and fly it back LOL
05:12 PM JT-Shop: I need to check the range on the TBS vtx and antenna
05:12 PM pink_vampire: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Jaw-Bench-Clamp-Drill-Press-Vice-Opening-Parallel-Table-Vise-DIY-Craft-fm-/112415220791?hash=item1a2c782437:g:~foAAOSwsW9Y3xjN
05:13 PM BeachBumPete: we have been really enjoying the Eachine E010S Tinywhoops we have here in the house
05:13 PM BeachBumPete: pink_vampire does it come with the potato?
05:13 PM JT-Shop: I have a seppuku fc on it running dronin... need to find the settings that make it fly like my Q100 for a while
05:13 PM pink_vampire: read the description
05:14 PM pink_vampire: For fixing small items, such as....
05:14 PM BeachBumPete: yeah I see that
05:14 PM XXCoder: pink_vampire: not too bad
05:14 PM pink_vampire: LOLLL
05:14 PM BeachBumPete: why?
05:14 PM XXCoder: think its actually better than my drill press vise lol
05:14 PM XXCoder: AND cheaper lol
05:14 PM BeachBumPete: JT-Shop supposedly that antenna you have there is a good one
05:15 PM pink_vampire: so get one
05:15 PM JT-Shop: yea, I asked around a lot before I got it
05:15 PM XXCoder: "--Machine auxiliary fixing, not afraid to hurt your fingers." LOL
05:15 PM JT-Shop: last part is out of the powder coat oven time to clean up and take the wife out to dinner
05:15 PM BeachBumPete: there are many types of antennae for FPV and drones
05:16 PM JT-Shop: so many it is very confusing not to mention all the frequencies lol
05:16 PM BeachBumPete: exactly
05:16 PM BeachBumPete: I want to get more range but some are quite directional and others are wide area but lesser range etc
05:17 PM BeachBumPete: a lot of guys are using that type or the mushroom type
05:17 PM JT-Shop: and some penetrate better than others through trees etc
05:17 PM BeachBumPete: my goggles have the mushroom and the ability to dual but I only have one
05:17 PM BeachBumPete: yup
05:17 PM JT-Shop: what goggles do you have?
05:17 PM BeachBumPete: just went kind of cheap
05:17 PM BeachBumPete: I got the JJpro boxes
05:17 PM JT-Shop: I have the ev800
05:18 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/gn4nRCC9TwQ lol
05:18 PM JT-Shop: figured out how to mount a pair of eye glasses in them the other day but need to adjust the location a bit
05:19 PM BeachBumPete: I got the JJpro Vision
05:19 PM BeachBumPete: oh you got the eachine ones
05:19 PM BeachBumPete: how do you like them?
05:19 PM JT-Shop: so far it is ok, I wonder if eye glasses fit inside the jjpro?
05:20 PM BeachBumPete: I wear mine when I use them
05:20 PM BeachBumPete: but they do kinda get pressed into my face by the foam surround
05:20 PM BeachBumPete: once I get them positioned right it works ok
05:20 PM JT-Shop: you can't wear eye glasses with the ev800's
05:21 PM BeachBumPete: supposedly you can get lenses like welding helmets for them
05:21 PM BeachBumPete: when I fly the tiny whoop around the house
05:21 PM JT-Shop: time to take the wife out to eat talk to you later
05:21 PM BeachBumPete: if I am not wearing the glasses inside the goggles
05:21 PM BeachBumPete: I cannot focus on say my wifes face but everything else is ok
05:21 PM LeelooMinai: Related: https://www.itead.cc/tools-and-equipment/virtual-reality.html :p
05:21 PM BeachBumPete: Oh ok have a nice dinner
05:22 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: That sounded like one of those "my wife is ugly" :)
05:22 PM LeelooMinai: jokes*
05:23 PM BeachBumPete: actually I think she is quite beautiful which is why I married her LOL
05:23 PM LeelooMinai: Not for her internal beauty? :p
05:23 PM BeachBumPete: but because I cannot focus on her face when I am annoying her with my tiny drone in the house while she is playing on her phone is not her fault it is my own LOL
05:24 PM BeachBumPete: oh yeah that too... hehe
05:25 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Is she wearing eye protection? You know, those things can do bad things to eyes, so if you fly around her to annoy her...
05:25 PM BeachBumPete: well actually the tiny whoops are ducted fan drones and very small
05:25 PM BeachBumPete: which is why you can fly them in the house and around people safely
05:26 PM * LeelooMinai imagines her smashing the drone with a frying pan and putting the end to husband's hobby
05:28 PM pink_vampire: LeelooMinai: are you also a woman?
05:28 PM LeelooMinai: What do you mean "also"... like being not only and alien, but a woman too? :)
05:28 PM LeelooMinai: an alien*
05:29 PM XXCoder: LeelooMinai: pink is female.
05:29 PM LeelooMinai: A, this "also". Yes, I am.
05:29 PM LeelooMinai: I thought my nick is kind of non-male like, but I guess not...
05:29 PM XXCoder: its not leaning to either gender nor any other
05:30 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: ...
05:30 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: Google Leeloo Minai first maybe:)
05:30 PM BeachBumPete: I figured you were a female because Leeloo was female ;)
05:30 PM XXCoder: ahh thats her. 5th element lady
05:31 PM XXCoder: didnt remember name, liked that silly movie
05:31 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: I thought you are sci-fi expert:)
05:31 PM XXCoder: I kinda am, but I always have problems recalling people names
05:31 PM pink_vampire: I don't have a room for a tv..
05:32 PM BeachBumPete: fantastic movie
05:32 PM LeelooMinai: pink_vampire: Why do you mention TV - who watches TV nowadays, or in fact in last few decades...
05:33 PM LeelooMinai: YouTube + torrents covers all one needs imo
05:33 PM BeachBumPete: I don't use torrents but I hear a lot of people talk about it
05:33 PM pink_vampire: mmmm
05:33 PM XXCoder: I recently discovered Adam ruins everything
05:33 PM XXCoder: very good show. not streamable from what I see :(
05:33 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Man, you are really new to this internet thing, aren't you? :)
05:35 PM BeachBumPete: no not really just perhaps am a little more choosy about what I do with it?
05:35 PM LeelooMinai: Torrents are, I think 15 years old or so by now.
05:35 PM BeachBumPete: that and I work a lot at home and at work so not as much time as some perhaps
05:36 PM BeachBumPete: I know I have been on there before but not in a long time
05:42 PM LeelooMinai: I wonder if there are any potential problems with me welding hex nuts to steel sheet - just touchiung each side a bit I guess.
05:42 PM BeachBumPete: how thick?
05:43 PM LeelooMinai: 1/8 aka 3.125 mm
05:44 PM LeelooMinai: Gauge 10 I think
05:45 PM BeachBumPete: as long as you dont get it too hot but you might find it warps it a little around the nuts
05:45 PM LeelooMinai: Hmm, right
05:46 PM BeachBumPete: tig or mig?
05:46 PM LeelooMinai: mig'o'tig:)
05:47 PM BeachBumPete: ?
05:47 PM LeelooMinai: I mean it's MIG, but, using flux wire and no gas (it's optional and seems would need $300 or so investment), so imo it's more like stick welding but with auto-feeding.
05:48 PM BeachBumPete: ah
05:48 PM BeachBumPete: I have done that quite a bit before I got my mig and tig setup
05:48 PM LeelooMinai: Bought it for $200 on sale - but tried it, and works fine.
05:49 PM BeachBumPete: I think the one I had was around that price. Welded all sorts of stuff with it LOL
05:49 PM LeelooMinai: Well, took me an hour to get the wire to pass through the whole system, but I think it was because it kind of inwound on me and wounded it back by hand and seems it got small kinks or something.
05:50 PM LeelooMinai: Those spools are evil - it's like a trap.
05:50 PM LeelooMinai: At least first time - now I will know.
05:51 PM BeachBumPete: yeah I find that if you kinda round the end of the wire before you stick it in and then keep the lead straight as possible it goes rather smoothly
05:51 PM LeelooMinai: BeachBumPete: Did you find adding gas made a big difference?
05:52 PM BeachBumPete: yeah it does honestly
05:52 PM sync: yeah penetration is better
05:52 PM sync: and the welds are cleaner
05:52 PM BeachBumPete: but I found more issue with the 110v versus 220v input was more of a difference
05:52 PM BeachBumPete: but yeah as sync said the welds are much cleaner without all the popping and snapping
05:53 PM LeelooMinai: Well, it gets converted into DC anyways, so, what difference can it make...
05:53 PM sync: the gas also makes a difference
05:53 PM LeelooMinai: Unless 220V had more power.
05:54 PM LeelooMinai: Makes sense - the popping thing is probably flux boiling and creating gases, etc.
05:54 PM BeachBumPete: my 110v mig unit was not capable of the penetration or power of my 220v model perhaps it was just the model I had
05:54 PM LeelooMinai: Flux is a nasty stuff.
05:55 PM LeelooMinai: Gas seems nice, but, well, more expensive than the whole welder in my case:)
05:55 PM sync: I tig welded today after a year of not doing it, really had to concentrate on the first meter
05:55 PM BeachBumPete: usually the gas adapter kits are like a hundred bucks or so and the tank about the same
05:56 PM LeelooMinai: Maybe one day I will get some - if I will have some bigger project (like making maybe benches for the basement "workshop".)
05:56 PM LeelooMinai: Right, I mean CAD dollars - I checjed and it was $100 for the regulator thing and $200 for the bottle.
05:56 PM BeachBumPete: I would think it would be easy to roll your own gas adapter kit with a welding reg and some tubing etc.. but I have never done it
05:58 PM LeelooMinai: Maybe, if some has experience, but I am not any kind of pneumatics expert, so probably would end up costing more in experiments and errors.
05:58 PM BeachBumPete: possibly but it might be worth checking online about your particular model of mig perhaps someone else has already done it
05:59 PM LeelooMinai: It's Mastercraft - Canada Tire "brand" (aka made in China, but with decent qwuality control and good english manuals, etc.)
06:00 PM LeelooMinai: So rather exotic compared to, what is that most common brand... I have a helmet from them.
06:01 PM LeelooMinai: A, Lincoln Electric
06:01 PM sync: I always just bought broken tig machines and fixed them until I ended up with one that welds like I want
06:01 PM BeachBumPete: goodidea
06:02 PM BeachBumPete: love my tig
06:02 PM LeelooMinai: I saw some modern mid-range welders. Some were pretty cool: they have displays with programs, you can do all kinds of welding, enter paramaters and can monitor currents, power, etc. Looked neat.
06:03 PM LeelooMinai: But, I am not that into it, to justify saving for those. It's more to get things done for other projects.
06:04 PM LeelooMinai: Though I guess some kind of micro-welder attached to CNC Z-axis could be a neat project.
06:04 PM LeelooMinai: CNC welding:)
06:06 PM LeelooMinai: I mean it's more or less (MIG) like 3D printer - you have metal wire instead of plastic and you heat it by current instead of at the nozzle.
06:06 PM LeelooMinai: I guess one difference is that it also melts what is already deposited or already there, but still.
06:10 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: Did you see the Golum guy reading Trump tweets? :)
06:10 PM XXCoder: saw it but didnt watch video
06:11 PM LeelooMinai: O, wait, damn, I forgot again that you cannot hear:(
06:11 PM LeelooMinai: I guess that pretty much takes the point of that video.
06:11 PM XXCoder: thought concept funny tho lol
06:11 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: Yes, but 90% was the actual sound - pretty epic.
06:12 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: Did you ever hear or it's one of those things you had from birth?
06:12 PM XXCoder: waardensberg syndome
06:13 PM LeelooMinai: A, genetic
06:13 PM XXCoder: yeah. it makes blue eyes domiant eye color,, sometimes white streaks on hair (I had one but bald now), and large percent deaf
06:13 PM XXCoder: I'm actually rare example of 100% deaf
06:14 PM XXCoder: rest of my family is 95-98% deaf
06:14 PM LeelooMinai: Right, that sucks - even that 2% probably is a huge difference between no hearing at all.
06:14 PM XXCoder: not really
06:16 PM LeelooMinai: You think not useful at all?
06:16 PM XXCoder: my bro hears nothing most of time
06:16 PM XXCoder: my nephew can hear more, can actually hear shouts if it is expecially loud
06:17 PM XXCoder: myself well let me tell ya this silly story
06:17 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: Ok, but I mean... if you can hear at least something, you could get amplifier, but if nothing, it won't help you.
06:17 PM XXCoder: I'm been always nerd and not very social
06:17 PM XXCoder: so at dance event I sat near speakers and read book, was pretty good massage for back lol
06:18 PM XXCoder: so I was sitting less than foot away from huge speakers. heard nothing lol
06:18 PM LeelooMinai: Right, and probably people looked at you and thought weird things.
06:19 PM XXCoder: probably. never cared what others thought lol. probably why i was never popular lol
06:19 PM XXCoder: conforming is not what I am
06:20 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: If your brother can hear laud shouts, cannnot he get one of those in-near devices to hear more?
06:20 PM XXCoder: no thats my nephew
06:20 PM LeelooMinai: Right, a potato/tomato:)
06:20 PM XXCoder: yeah he could I suppose but he didnt care about that stuff apparently
06:21 PM LeelooMinai: ...
06:21 PM XXCoder: hes third generation deaf
06:22 PM LeelooMinai: Ok, that's weird - I would think that he would like to hear more...
06:22 PM XXCoder: who knows? :)
06:22 PM XXCoder: my grandfather is hearing but definitely are carrier
06:22 PM XXCoder: *was
06:23 PM XXCoder: used present tense by mistake :P
06:24 PM XXCoder: my bro has 4 kids, 2 definitely carrier, one deaf and one probably not
06:24 PM LeelooMinai: Hmm, carrier... I guess in the future they will be able to fix DNA for impregnation and things like that.
06:25 PM XXCoder: consider this, his wife has brown eyes, which is supposely domiant
06:25 PM XXCoder: 3 of kids has blue eyes
06:25 PM LeelooMinai: Right, and now you are a carrier I guess.
06:26 PM XXCoder: carrier is one thats hearing but has dna
06:26 PM LeelooMinai: Weird - so if you don't, you are not?
06:27 PM XXCoder: no, my childen if any, would have very high probability of being deaf
06:28 PM LeelooMinai: Isn't that being a carrier?
06:28 PM XXCoder: nah its fully expressed
06:28 PM XXCoder: carrier looks normal, has normal hearing (or slowly decreasing)
09:10 PM Vitran: Does anyone have a max hole depth calculator? I want to drill a #21 drill for a 10-32 and I don't know what the max depth I should go with a standard jobber drill
09:10 PM yasnak: you mean based off the drill's point?
09:11 PM Vitran: Not sure what you mean by point? I was going off of diameter
09:12 PM yasnak: You mean the depth you can max drill with a specific diameter based on the idea that all jobber drills have the same tip, length and flute length?
09:13 PM Vitran: Yeah. Standard 118 out of the box
09:13 PM Vitran: I know I could get a parabolic drill. I didn't know if there was some nice look up table
09:14 PM Vitran: I want to do a 1.9" deep hole and didn't know if this was pushing it for the drill
09:16 PM yasnak: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_bit_sizes#Jobber-length_drill
09:16 PM yasnak: I mean, do you have a drill in mind? What is it drilling? How long are the flutes? What type of flutes? There is alot more that needs to be answered then what you think :P
09:17 PM tiwake: some jobber drills are longer than others
09:17 PM yasnak: ^
09:17 PM XXCoder: https://gizmodo.com/no-apollo-11-astronauts-didnt-go-through-customs-after-1617614706
09:18 PM tiwake: so you gotta look up the part you are buying for "flute length" and "overall length"
09:18 PM yasnak: "standard"...if only lol. these days we have so many different versions of just a #19 drill for instance
09:19 PM tiwake: w/e
09:19 PM tiwake: just go for a cobalt split-point drill, if its not long enough then get a parabolic drill
09:20 PM yasnak: siemens sitop ups module went bad on a swiss machine, trying to push myself to go replace it. yay
09:20 PM tiwake: make sure its a good company... even some companies I thought were good had the splitpoint way off sometimes
09:20 PM tiwake: makes the hole drill big
09:20 PM yasnak: or start it with a split and follow with an aircraft, depends on what material tho. and yeah about companies, i go with precision twist for cobalt cheapies as the imports are normally ground like crap
09:21 PM tiwake: jep
09:21 PM Vitran: It is aluminum for my paintball marker desing
09:21 PM yasnak: going to want to peck alot if its a smaller hole but shouldn'[t be hard
09:21 PM tiwake: precision twist, or whats that other company... bleh, I forget... detroit drills I think?
09:22 PM tiwake: there are others
09:22 PM yasnak: hmm michigan drill?
09:22 PM tiwake: maybe
09:22 PM yasnak: chicago-latrobe?
09:22 PM tiwake: thats another good one
09:22 PM yasnak: i bet you mean cleveland drills
09:23 PM tiwake: oh yeah, thats it
09:23 PM tiwake: lol
09:23 PM tiwake: its been a while, because of my new job :-/
09:23 PM yasnak: no worries man, i've been doing machining for over a decade and when you start talking tooling...i'm a noob
09:23 PM tiwake: my new job has horrible machines that have the ways completely worn out
09:23 PM yasnak: its impossible to stay up to date
09:23 PM tiwake: I mean, I have been too
09:23 PM tiwake: 12 years
09:24 PM yasnak: 11 for me, same boat then
09:24 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7wuQ7xDDRE
09:24 PM yasnak: what kind of machines?
09:24 PM tiwake: lathes and mills
09:24 PM yasnak: cnc or man?
09:24 PM tiwake: manual, they don't have any CNC equipment :-/
09:24 PM XXCoder: or woman? heh
09:24 PM yasnak: ;/
09:24 PM yasnak: sexist!
09:25 PM skunkworks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVU-dboakT4
09:25 PM tiwake: its an electric motor repair shop
09:25 PM tiwake: I told the owner I was concerned that most of my abilities would not be used because of that
09:26 PM tiwake: but I really wanted to move, and finding a job 2,000 miles away is difficult, so I took the job
09:26 PM tiwake: 10 months later, and things have settled down, now I'm starting to look around for a better job
09:26 PM XXCoder: nice
09:27 PM yasnak: you have cnc experience?
09:27 PM tiwake: my only concern is that some shops might not take me seriously because I've only used mastercam once, and solidworks just a little more
09:28 PM XXCoder: some places will always hire machinist
09:28 PM yasnak: like opened the program once? or what do you mean used it once?
09:28 PM XXCoder: you can do manual, you knows the shit
09:28 PM tiwake: even though I have tons of CNC programming experience, about half of which was in front of the machine its self
09:28 PM yasnak: i mean yeah, if you know how to machine I'd totally take you
09:28 PM XXCoder: you ran cnc machines before right?
09:28 PM yasnak: could you write a simple lathe/mill program given a print?
09:29 PM tiwake: yasnak: I used the program once, to make a shaving knife handle out of aluminum... heh
09:29 PM yasnak: so you were able to go from nothing to a posted program and then machine it right?
09:29 PM yasnak: thats leaps beyond many lol
09:29 PM tiwake: sure
09:30 PM XXCoder: then you are more hirable than me, tiwake
09:30 PM yasnak: http://academy.titansofcnc.com/ might help too, you can get free full on 5-axis autodesk software and watch some of the videos they made.
09:30 PM yasnak: i mean you're pretty much a programmer, just not given the chances to do it. you in the usa?
09:30 PM tiwake: yasnak: check PM
09:31 PM tiwake: * yasnak :is in +g mode (server-side ignore.)
09:31 PM yasnak: try now
09:31 PM tiwake: not sure what +g is :-x
09:31 PM yasnak: blocking pms
09:31 PM tiwake: gotcha
09:31 PM tiwake: figured
09:39 PM XXCoder: lol I can access files without sign in
09:41 PM XXCoder: watching video
09:42 PM XXCoder: https://youtu.be/Sywdzuywm5o
09:43 PM XXCoder: he uses wd-40. interesting
09:49 PM yasnak: te-co is ok
09:50 PM yasnak: we recently got four of their 4" double vices...
09:50 PM yasnak: I really love kurt tho :/
09:50 PM XXCoder: kurt kurts a lot
09:50 PM XXCoder: price wise lol
10:39 PM roycroft: you only have to buy a kurt once
10:39 PM roycroft: (for each machine)
10:41 PM LeelooMinai: And for each endmill crash
10:42 PM XXCoder: depends on what crash caused
10:43 PM roycroft: spending $600 on a vise helps ward off crashes :)
10:49 PM Tom_itx: yeah you can't afford to replace cutters after that :D
10:49 PM XXCoder: lol
10:49 PM Tom_itx: i agree though, kurt is the industry standard
10:50 PM roycroft: i like to write with nice pens, although my handwriting is awful
10:50 PM roycroft: folks tell me they lose pens so often they can't afford to use a $200 sterling silver pen
10:50 PM roycroft: i respond that when i buy pens for $3/dozen i lose them too
10:50 PM roycroft: but i've never lost a $200 pen
10:50 PM Tom_itx: me either
10:51 PM Tom_itx: cause i don't have one
10:51 PM roycroft: it's kind of the same thing with a kurt, i think
10:51 PM XXCoder: lol roycroft I have used same el cheapo bank pen for over a year now
10:51 PM roycroft: they're so expensive one takes a bit of extra care
10:51 PM XXCoder: I got more expensive one but it died under sheer amount of writing and leaked ink
10:51 PM roycroft: and is less prone to crashing into them
10:51 PM XXCoder: so back to that same pen.
10:59 PM LeelooMinai: About losing stuff. I remember when I was young and lived in Poland, they had diners where forks and spoons were on small chains so no one stole them... I am not kidding, just remembered that:)
11:00 PM XXCoder: geez
11:00 PM LeelooMinai: Seems absurd to me now, but those days it was the thing.
11:01 PM LeelooMinai: Kind of akward eating with a spoon attached to the desk with a chain...
11:01 PM XXCoder: at old buffet place I used to work at, we kept adding new spoon forks and knives
11:01 PM XXCoder: because people steal em and some workers throw em away acciently
11:01 PM LeelooMinai: Nowadays they could RFID them or something:)
11:02 PM XXCoder: maybe lol though last visit couple years ago they didnt bother still
11:04 PM Tom_itx: LeelooMinai you're not still young?
11:04 PM LeelooMinai: I am alternativly young now.
11:06 PM XXCoder: I am alternate young, beautful and genius
11:16 PM roycroft: was that during the soviet era, leeloominai?
11:16 PM LeelooMinai: Right, yes
11:16 PM roycroft: poland was rather impoverished back then
11:16 PM roycroft: as were all the soviet satellite states
11:17 PM LeelooMinai: Yes, that's why people were stealing stuff if they had a chance.
11:17 PM roycroft: i can imagine cutlery theft as a thing under those circumstances
11:18 PM LeelooMinai: I mean it was so bad at times, they they would give people special tickets per month for sugar for example - so you could buy only some small amount.
11:19 PM roycroft: we had food ration stamps in the us during wwii
11:19 PM roycroft: and sugar was one of the things in short supply
11:19 PM LeelooMinai: And if you went to store sometimes the queue would be like hundreds of meter long and you would stay there for half a day.
11:21 PM roycroft: "Readiel arm saw big with table"
11:21 PM roycroft: i've seen creative spelling before
11:21 PM roycroft: but this is outstanding in innovation
11:22 PM roycroft: it stands out from all the "ban saw" listings
11:50 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FENROFZd9nE lol I wonder how accurate music is.
11:52 PM LeelooMinai: It's just beeps more or less.
11:52 PM XXCoder: can you check out still alive see if its similiar or not
11:52 PM XXCoder: lemme find link
11:53 PM XXCoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI
11:54 PM LeelooMinai: Well, this one has vocal and is less beepy.
11:55 PM XXCoder: interesting'
11:55 PM XXCoder: well thanks for listening for me
11:55 PM LeelooMinai: You should run some spectrum analyzer by your monitor - would at least see the sounds:)
11:56 PM XXCoder: I suppose but eh heh
