12:04 AM skullworks: I did'nt think think anything made mainly from Tin could be "cheap" in todays market.
12:18 AM roycroft: compared to copper, tin is cheap
12:20 AM skullworks: I must be rich, I have lots of copper.
12:21 AM roycroft: copper is meth money
12:21 AM skullworks: but then I have been piling it up for 30 years.
12:23 AM roycroft: you can buy lots of meth then
12:24 AM roycroft: but your teeth will fall out
12:24 AM skullworks: Its bullet alloy I can't seem to get enough of. 92%Pb 4%Sb 4%Sn
12:24 AM roycroft: and your eyes will recede into your brain
12:24 AM roycroft: i would not recommend it
12:25 AM skullworks: Nitro menthanol... Zoom Zoom.
12:28 AM roycroft: meth does a lot of work on one's skull however ...
12:28 AM roycroft: but i'll assume your skullworks are positive things
12:30 AM skullworks: Goes back to assembly language programming back in the 70's - I'd get stuck on a problem and without thinking start drumming on a human skull next to my desk - classroom was also used to teach human biology and anatomey.
12:31 AM skullworks: Instructor used to make jokes about it - he's got that skull working again.
12:32 AM skullworks: drumming = tapping with a pencil eraser end.
12:34 AM skullworks: people I went to school with were still teasing me decades later - so once email became a 'thing' it just seemed the natural choice.
12:34 AM roycroft: not a backstory i would have expected :)
12:37 AM skullworks: Our defining moments are often not what we would choose.
12:40 AM roycroft: it's a more interesting story than i'd have expected
12:54 AM IchGucksLive: morning from Germany
12:59 AM IchGucksLive: have a nice nonbitbreaking day ;-)
02:19 AM Deejay: moin
02:52 AM MrSunshine: hmm gcode optimizer for linuxcnc code .. any available?
02:53 AM MrSunshine: got huge code that has the most stupid "optimization" iven ever seen :P
02:54 AM archivist: cam does not optimise
02:55 AM archivist: humans get paid to optimise cam output or write it from scratch
02:55 AM MrSunshine: yes but huge V carvings etc .. no no writi self
02:56 AM archivist: why worry if it works and looks ok
02:56 AM MrSunshine: its the traveling salesman problem
02:56 AM MrSunshine: the rapids are just stupid
02:56 AM MrSunshine: archivist: cause it runs like 2 hours longer than it should due to like a billion rapids over the whole sheet
02:57 AM archivist: that needs fixing IN the cam creation program
02:57 AM MrSunshine: archivist: well i do not have the source code so i cant fix it ...
02:58 AM archivist: and are the settings you give it, right
02:58 AM MrSunshine: just stay on subject insted .. i need something that can optimize the rapids in the gcode file .. not know that the program needs fixing :P
02:58 AM MrSunshine: archivist: not much settings i can set
02:58 AM archivist: are you lifting too far
02:59 AM MrSunshine: it starts at like X10 Y10 .. then goes X1200 Y700 to make 1 dot .. then back to X20 X10 to make a dot, then to X10 Y800 to make a dot etc ...
03:00 AM archivist: the trouble with something to optimise is it cannot know if moving something the area will be cleared or not
03:01 AM archivist: so could make the gcode crash into the material
03:02 AM MrSunshine: archivist: true but in this case i could just swap around all the rapids to make it cut it alot more effective but at 300 000 lines of code its not a manual task to do =)
03:03 AM archivist: did ya google! http://xyzbots.com/gcode-optimizer/
03:07 AM MrSunshine: keeps saying its only 200 points .. doesnt seem to work very well and nothing changes when i open a file =)
03:07 AM archivist: there are others
03:54 AM deanforbes: Hi am looking for the datasheet for a baldor servo motor that came out of a staubli arm it a baldor which is now been absorbed into abb
03:55 AM deanforbes: called abb twice and was told balor is obsolete and we dont give any data out on motors on robotarms
03:55 AM deanforbes: any one have access to or know where to find out mor on
03:56 AM deanforbes: Baldor Brushless AC servo
03:56 AM deanforbes: CAT W090/0369
03:56 AM deanforbes: D221 248 01
03:56 AM deanforbes: SPEC SIP037W3012
03:56 AM deanforbes: MFG 2300023
03:58 AM deanforbes: meant give dont give any data out on motors on robotarms servos
04:59 AM XXCoder: deanforbes: hi someone might be able to answer in few hours
04:59 AM XXCoder: now is "darkest time" for this channel lol
05:36 AM jthornton: morning
05:37 AM XXCoder: yo
06:55 AM jthornton: 500 crickets are on the way...
06:55 AM XXCoder: yummy
06:55 AM XXCoder: some people use that for protein source.
06:55 AM jthornton: I've seen that
06:55 AM XXCoder: you plan to breed em or feed em direct to chickens?>
06:56 AM jthornton: both, I'm getting 1/2" about 3 weeks old so I'll reserve a few for a couple of weeks for breeding
06:56 AM XXCoder: cool
06:56 AM jthornton: if I pick out 5 females and 5 males I should get 500 more crickets
06:57 AM XXCoder: reminds me of ark and unicorn joke
06:59 AM XXCoder: this one. https://arnoldzwicky.s3.amazonaws.com/UnicornArk.jpg
08:35 AM jthornton: phipli: http://gnipsel.com/esp8266
10:01 AM pink_vampire: hi all
10:01 AM pink_vampire: hi gloomy
10:16 AM archivist: spot the mistook http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Central-Figal-Parts-Spinner-/253038340033
10:41 AM djdelorie: I've never been to Central Figal before... I wonder what the weather's like ;-)
10:43 AM archivist: tornado's and other swirls
10:46 AM djdelorie: random question while I'm here... is it worth replacing my 10tpi leadscrew with a 2tpi one for my Y? NEMA34 steppers, http://www.delorie.com/photos/cnc/img_3080.html
10:46 AM djdelorie: X is already 2 tpi, and Y is the limiting one for max movement speed
10:48 AM pink_vampire: 2tpi?????
10:48 AM archivist: compromises
10:49 AM archivist: speed, accuracy, resolution, acceleration forces, power needed for those forces
10:49 AM archivist: and costs
10:52 AM djdelorie: pink_vampire: yeah, 0.5in lead, four-start
10:53 AM djdelorie: archivist: I seem to have a plethora of power, and a small limit to speed; which is why I'm considering it
10:53 AM djdelorie: the machine itself has a limit on accel and power applied anyway (it's plywood ;)
10:53 AM djdelorie: mostly it was the annoyance factor of taking it apart and turning/fitting a new lead screw, vs benefits
10:54 AM archivist: are you getting whip on the 10 tpi?
10:54 AM archivist: or some other speed limit
10:54 AM djdelorie: I was with the servos, with the steppers the limit is step speed
10:54 AM djdelorie: they just lock up if I push it too fast
10:55 AM archivist: go back to servo
10:55 AM djdelorie: as soon as I repair the driver boards :-)
10:56 AM archivist: or redesign so the next can suffer the pain without smoke release
10:56 AM djdelorie: that too
10:56 AM djdelorie: but the X lead is 2tpi and seems to be much happier than the Y even with servos
12:21 PM IchGucksLive: hi from germany
12:25 PM pink_vampire: hi
12:45 PM CaptHindsight: I have an offset figal spinner :)
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: hi boddenkreuzer still all systems on full speed
12:45 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Central-Figal-Parts-Spinner-/253038340033
12:46 PM boddenkreuzer: yes, thanks!
12:46 PM archivist: I thought that item would amuse :)
01:11 PM boddenkreuzer_ is now known as boddenkreuzer
01:23 PM IchGucksLive: so im off for today cand see any more mashine hale line
01:23 PM IchGucksLive: ;-) Gn8
01:26 PM JT-Shop: a russian placed an order and selected pay by check...
01:26 PM _methods: hahah
01:26 PM _methods: it's in the mail
01:29 PM Tom_itx: i suppose that's better than cash in rubles
01:30 PM roycroft: you could ask him to pay in bitcoin
01:30 PM archivist: or trump votes
01:30 PM * JT-Shop doesn't even know what bitcoin is lol
01:32 PM roycroft: it's better than rubels, unless your last name is trump
01:32 PM roycroft: rubles
01:41 PM phipli: JT-Shop: nice to see the tutorials starting
01:43 PM JT-Shop: if you get a chance to give it a look over for correctness etc. I'd appreciate it
02:06 PM JT-Shop: bah I have to update the HMI software to program this 4" screen
02:42 PM Vitran: I'm in a toss up between a few tool height setters https://www.amazon.ca/Accuszie-0-0002-Electronic-Magnetic-0805-4015/dp/B00HQI7MHS/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1499799517&sr=1-1&keywords=Z+Axis+Setter%2C, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/APM-CNC-tool-pre-setter-z-axis-touch-off-gage-length-offset-height-NEW-/121895800409, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pro-Touch-Off-Gage-z-axis-CNC-tool-length-offset-pre-setter-endmill-04-/263076768666?hash=item3d4
02:42 PM Vitran: I've always done it by hand with a 1-2-3 block
02:42 PM Vitran: What do other people do?
02:43 PM pink_vampire: I have my own
02:47 PM Todd_Z: I often use a piece of plexiglass as a fealer guage. Works well for a wood router.
02:48 PM Vitran: Looking at doing this on a mill for under a thou accuracy
02:48 PM pink_vampire: tadum+tool setter + probe
02:48 PM pink_vampire: datum*
03:12 PM Nick-Shop: I use a couple of these - works as long as you lube them every so often http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHARS-MAGNETIC-Z-AXIS-DIAL-ZERO-SETTER-0004-GAGE-offset-CNC-NEW-/301203002700?hash=item462119154c:g:OGMAAOSwLEtYh3vx
03:18 PM m0n5t3r: for my arduino grbl thingy I use a piece of PCB that is 1mm thick, and connected via an optocoupler (because otherwise I would get false readings if the router is plugged in)
03:19 PM m0n5t3r: the upcoming machinekit thing that will replace it will also be optically isolated, the beaglebone is much more expensive than an arduino clone :)
03:20 PM pink_vampire: I'm working on something
03:21 PM pink_vampire: http://i.imgur.com/gWnzFCC.png
03:21 PM pink_vampire: m0n5t3r: Vitran Nick-Shop Todd_Z
04:04 PM XXCoder: pink_vampire: cup holder? heh
04:04 PM pink_vampire: almost
04:04 PM XXCoder: mister container holder?
04:38 PM Crom: I just got off the phone with Little machine shop. They will special order machines from china for you and get them shipped with their regualer shipment or special (expensive) shipping
05:13 PM Deejay: gn8
05:26 PM Skullworks: ug - I think I have the mess sorted out.
05:28 PM Skullworks: 5i25 (main out) > 7i77
05:29 PM Skullworks: 5i25 secondary out > 7i74 > 7i70, 7i73, 7i87
05:42 PM JT-Shop: looks right to me, I have everything in stock :)
06:19 PM Skullworks: JT - how much for the 7i74+7i70+7i73+ the IDC26 to DB25 ribbon for the 5i25's second connector?
06:20 PM JT-Shop: the price is show during checkout :)
06:20 PM Skullworks: ok
06:21 PM Skullworks: I will likely order before weeks end.
06:21 PM JT-Shop: 69+70+49+5+shipping
06:22 PM JT-Shop: all orders received before 9am make to the distribution center that day :)
06:24 PM Skullworks: I need to get 1 of the CNC mills running again, outsourcing so many jobs means making about 2% after all the running around and double shipping.
06:24 PM JT-Shop: I hear ya
06:27 PM Skullworks: VFD and servo amps have a 10V output scale to represent load - thats what the 7i87 is for - Icing on the cake - and will require gui tweaks and extra hal so it will be a later upgrade.
06:30 PM Skullworks: Problem is documentation does not clarify if its 0-10 or 10-0-10 - but either way the 7i87 can handle it.
06:39 PM MrHindsight: Skullworks: there are a lot of 10V in amps that don't clarify 0-10V or -10V to +10V
06:40 PM Skullworks: yeah - and I'm not equiped to properly test this stuff
06:41 PM MrHindsight: we know that they are differential inputs but it would be nice to know what it expects without having to adjust the Scale
06:41 PM MrHindsight: on the amp
06:42 PM MrHindsight: I wish that they just posted the specs and the circuit equivalent
06:42 PM MrHindsight: engineers are typically poor at translating specs into words
06:42 PM Skullworks: In higher voltage/current applications you Know when you let the majic smoke out - TTL it just goes dead and you get to wonder where and why without a smoke trail... :S
06:44 PM Skullworks: I been getting paid to work on electronics on and off for about half my life - but it was all learned in the fire or frying pan OJT. I have no formal electronics training.
06:47 PM Skullworks: Then while working for a small mega corp aka iHeartMedia - as a Engineering assistant and doing transmitter repair, installations and maint. I found studying RF tech that all the "rules" I thought I knew were more like 'sometimes'.
06:49 PM Skullworks: I know just enough to know - I should be scared...
06:50 PM Skullworks: In the corp world - if it died, it needed replacing anyway, cost of doing biz - FedX overnight a replacement and have it in service by noon...
06:51 PM andypugh: Can you have a small megacorp?
06:51 PM Skullworks: Nothing Panaic those in Broadcasting more than Silence.
06:52 PM Skullworks: yes - contributing member of the evil empire, propaganda and diversion dept.
06:54 PM Skullworks: I call it small because most people onle see a few of the tenticles, not the whole monster.
07:26 PM enleth: ugh, got the shop moved finally
07:27 PM enleth: everything's on pallets, boxed up and/or disassembled
07:28 PM enleth: and of course there wasn't enough time to even finish painting the new place, let alone get the new walls or floor started
08:33 PM Skullworks: Money can be made, saved, or wasted. Time can sometimes be 'saved', is usually wasted, and you can buy any extra at any price.
08:33 PM Skullworks: can't buy
09:16 PM Skullworks: 200+ pages later - I now have hardcopy of the needed Mesa manuals. I just wish MESA would split off the SSerial protocol as a single document instead of including it in every SSerial capable device manual.
09:24 PM roycroft: you aren't required to print out every page of a document - it's ok to be selective :)
