01:07 AM IchGucksLive: morning from germany
01:10 AM XXCoder: hey the german cnc maker
01:12 AM hazzy: Goodnight from the Southern USA!
01:14 AM IchGucksLive: im off 2 garden til later from germany
01:15 AM XXCoder: later
01:28 AM LeelooMinai: I just had to google to see how one spells covfefe:(
01:29 AM LeelooMinai: Which is super ironic imo
01:29 AM XXCoder: lol
01:30 AM hazzy: That is reassuring
01:30 AM hazzy: I have to do the same all the time
01:30 AM archivist: you no longer need to keep a paper dictionary though
01:32 AM hazzy: Unless you forget how to spell googel
01:32 AM XXCoder: yeah he showed us that mispellaing is what leaders do
02:27 AM Deejay: moin
02:29 AM XXCoder: yo
04:50 AM phipli: quiet this morning
04:52 AM XXCoder: its always quiet
04:58 AM Deejay: :/
04:58 AM Deejay: for you :(
04:59 AM XXCoder: lol
05:13 AM XXCoder: http://imghumour.com/assets/Uploads/Always-Give-100-Unless-Its-Donating-Blood.jpg
05:22 AM phipli: :)
06:12 AM jthornton: morning
06:12 AM XXCoder: yo
06:15 AM phipli: morning
06:15 AM XXCoder: oops I acciently prevented the combo. sorry
06:16 AM phipli: :)
06:16 AM phipli: or I did - not saying yo
06:16 AM phipli: where does "yo" come from - what does it actually /mean/
06:17 AM XXCoder: ah well we can drink together on failure to combo
06:17 AM XXCoder: it's simple hail
06:17 AM XXCoder: on dictory: "used to greet someone, attract their attention, or express excitement."
06:19 AM phipli: yeah, but "Ey up" the local one here
06:19 AM phipli: has a root
06:19 AM phipli: it is thought to be left over from Old Norse
06:19 AM phipli: heh. Perhaps archivist and I should introduce the local dialect...
06:21 AM phipli: Although I think he is playing with steam engines today
06:23 AM XXCoder: cool
06:23 AM XXCoder: I want to play around with stirling lol but dont really have skills to design one myself
06:58 AM malcom2073: XXCoder: There are a couple *fairly* easy to build designs online
06:58 AM malcom2073: I'm torn between doing that, an air engine, or an IC engine
06:58 AM XXCoder: im great on operating an cnc machine, but I'm not too great on doing everything like making program
06:59 AM XXCoder: my memory suck enough that I'm unablke to remember what would be good feed range so on
07:01 AM malcom2073: That's what paper is for :-D
07:01 AM malcom2073: I can never remember, I've got a set of them written down for various bits I have
07:02 AM XXCoder: yeah but same time how often do i actually use that? not very often as program is often already made
07:02 AM malcom2073: I mean for home machining
07:02 AM Tom_itx: so look at what the programmed feeds/speeds are for various tooling
07:02 AM XXCoder: yeah
07:03 AM Tom_itx: even though your home machine won't be able to do that heavy a cut
07:03 AM XXCoder: lol yeah
07:03 AM Tom_itx: they still apply to a degree
07:04 AM malcom2073: Oh man, so we have a zmorph 3d printer at work
07:04 AM malcom2073: it comes with a milling spindle
07:04 AM malcom2073: speaking of tiny feeds and speeds
07:06 AM XXCoder: fancy
07:06 AM malcom2073: Aluminum at least is very forgiving too
07:07 AM malcom2073: You can guess and check based on finish
07:07 AM XXCoder: yeah avoid chatter try get decent finish
07:07 AM malcom2073: The zmorph we have has a 1/8th bit and 12krpm, we just took a shallow cut and kept cranking up the speed until it seemed happy
07:07 AM XXCoder: havent tried alum on my machine, it should be mainly wood so pretty simple
07:13 AM malcom2073: It makes me miss my big mill though, I wish they'd buy a real cnc
07:15 AM XXCoder: I bet
07:18 AM phipli: one of the folks on here does homebrew ECUs for engines I think
07:18 AM phipli: That would be an interesting project
07:21 AM jthornton: yea Andy does that
07:37 AM phipli: Pugh?
07:37 AM jthornton: aye
07:37 AM phipli: he seems to have a few interesting hobbies
07:42 AM malcom2073: I do that as well
07:43 AM malcom2073: I've thought about EFIing a tiny engine, but I hear that's a nightmare
07:45 AM XXCoder: night
07:47 AM sync: not really malcom2073
07:47 AM malcom2073: Ok.
07:47 AM malcom2073: well I'll leave that to you then :)
07:49 AM sync: I've done it a few times
09:41 AM TheHexaCube: hey there folks
09:42 AM TheHexaCube: I have a quick question: In a couple month's i'll start working at a large company that builds CNC machining centers, and I get the chance to make a couple parts for private use - I'm already making some CAD plans for that
09:42 AM TheHexaCube: but I wanted to ask what kind of tolerances I should add for fitting things through holes
09:42 AM TheHexaCube: eg. for a 5mm cylinder, how large would the hole need to be for a snug fit
10:01 AM SpeedEvil: There are tables and stuff you can find for the various classes of fit.
10:02 AM SpeedEvil: Which will slide reely, whihc will need pressed in, for various finish classes
10:02 AM SpeedEvil: http://www.engineersedge.com/class_i.htm
10:02 AM SpeedEvil: http://www.engineersedge.com/class_v.htm
10:09 AM Roguish: TheHexaCube: check your machinery handbook.
10:26 AM TheHexaCube: SpeedEvil: i assume that's inches?
10:30 AM TheHexaCube: Roguish: if I had one :P
10:30 AM SpeedEvil: TheHexaCube: doesn't matter
10:31 AM SpeedEvil: inches, mm, or yards
10:53 AM phipli: TheHexaCube: https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Info-Pages/ISO-Limits/c4746_4779/index.html?page=1
10:53 AM phipli: table at the bottom helps
10:58 AM TheHexaCube: hmmm, I often see small letters, but no capital letter tolerances
10:58 AM TheHexaCube: I assume one refers to a shaft, and the other to a hole?
10:59 AM TheHexaCube: oh okay it does show the charts in the site you linked, sorry
11:19 AM cpresser: check DIN7154
11:20 AM cpresser: and get a physical book to look that stuff up :)
11:21 AM TheHexaCube: i will, in... about two months :P
11:21 AM TheHexaCube: but I wanted to look into it right now, so I can keep the CAD file 'correct'
11:21 AM TheHexaCube: i don't wanna forget to do it later on
11:39 AM njh: For anyone on Twitter, I have just setup a @linuxcnc twitter account that tweets news from the linuxcnc.org RSS feed:
11:39 AM njh: https://twitter.com/linuxcnc
11:39 AM njh: I will re-tweet any interesting mentions etc...
12:02 PM justan0theruser is now known as justanotheruser
12:43 PM IchGucksLive: hi all
12:45 PM IchGucksLive: good day for making cnc files
12:46 PM Deejay: o7
12:49 PM archivist: phipli, ay up mi duck
12:52 PM phipli: ay up. Was today a belt-job?
12:53 PM archivist: I saw the local dialect comment:0
12:54 PM archivist: 267 visitors today iirc
12:54 PM phipli: :)
12:54 PM phipli: How many do you need to break even?
12:55 PM archivist: not sure we got about 250 quid which is about a ton of coal
12:56 PM archivist: forgot to bid on fleabay for a scanner this morning before I went out, £15 it sold for
12:56 PM hazzy: Hey, I have never actually heard anyone say "ay up" before!
12:56 PM archivist: a south derbyshire term
01:00 PM hazzy: Our neighbor from Kent told us it was a thing, so we say it a good bit just for fun
01:07 PM archivist: oops, its catching https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3929597/bethnal-green-fire-east-london-flats-latest/
01:11 PM jesseg: haha... My old late friend left me a bunch of junk, and one item in particular I just figured out what it was.. An old Norgren air-lubricator
01:11 PM jesseg: I didn't know such a thing existed but I guess it makes sense.
01:12 PM IchGucksLive: GN8 from Germany
02:04 PM billykid: hello
02:11 PM billykid: I'm trying synchronized spindles with 5i23 + 7i33
02:14 PM billykid: Is index enable to be reset on the first rev or should it be all revs?
02:15 PM archivist: are you tapping or what?
02:15 PM archivist: I am hobbing with no index on the encoder
02:16 PM billykid: I'm doing it for a friend also for intent to use orient
02:16 PM billykid: in halscope i see index pulse
02:17 PM billykid: index enable goes low at first rev
02:18 PM pcw_home: Normally what happens is that motion sets index-enable true when its waiting to start a synchronized move
02:18 PM pcw_home: then is starts the move when index-enable is set low by the hardware
02:18 PM pcw_home: then it starts
02:18 PM billykid: at first rev only ?
02:19 PM archivist: from then on one axis is following the other
02:19 PM pcw_home: Yes only at first index detected after motion sets index-enable true
02:20 PM billykid: Then it remains low until the next move
02:20 PM billykid: ok !
02:20 PM billykid: Many thanks !
02:25 PM JT-Shopp is now known as JT-Shop
03:11 PM Crom: Oh jeese... Just remember from the trump twit today.. he was connected to WWE back in the day.... Idioacracy... the President was a Wrestler
03:12 PM LeelooMinai: Crom: I am just seeing that - everyday I think "ok, this is the limit of bizzare", and I am being proven wrong:)
03:13 PM Crom: I'm loving it...
03:14 PM LeelooMinai: It's a good thing though - he went double full-retard, so there's hope for the future:)
03:14 PM Crom: Better him than Billery
03:14 PM Crom: First Hubby Bubba
03:14 PM LeelooMinai: I meant that he won't last now long...
03:16 PM LeelooMinai: Well, to be honest, sans the whole policies/politics, I kind of liked Bush - he was pretty funny imo. Should be comedian, but somehow became the president:)
03:17 PM Crom: Like his wife better... Laura kept him in line pretty good.
03:17 PM Crom: M should take a baseball bat to trump... maybe it would make him smarter..
03:18 PM LeelooMinai: Right, like putting a broken clock in a blender will surely fix it:p
03:19 PM Crom: one can only hope
04:46 PM Deejay: gn8
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NPTzTU4_ns played backwards to give the illusion that it's being printed vs cut?
05:02 PM CaptHindsight: ^^ inkjet printer
05:03 PM CaptHindsight: it would need support material
05:04 PM CaptHindsight: http://www.3ders.org/articles/20170125-backers-of-nexd1-3d-printer-have-26-hours-to-escape-controversial-kickstarter-campaign.html
05:06 PM CaptHindsight: https://3dprintingindustry.com/news/nexd1-kickstarter-suspended-amidst-controversy-104318/
05:08 PM malcom2073: heh oh man
05:08 PM malcom2073: that's awesome
06:17 PM * LeelooMinai imagines two german enginners with sad faces over their beers and one says "--You know, maybe adding that support-removal cutter was not a good idea:("
08:12 PM absynth is now known as dan2wik
10:36 PM LeelooMinai: lol, Tump picked a guy for the Civil Rights division that has experience in fighting for civil rights... of corporations.
10:37 PM XXCoder: did you see him figuting cnn twitter by him?
10:38 PM LeelooMinai: Yes.... Would be funny if not the context I guess:)
10:39 PM XXCoder: when its random guy posting its silly and stupid
10:39 PM XXCoder: when its president doing it..
10:39 PM LeelooMinai: I wonder if it will all end up like in Snow Crash where corporations took over.
10:40 PM Crom: T.W.I.T the week in trump
10:40 PM XXCoder: LeelooMinai: heh I would use that old game as example
10:40 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: At this point there's no more president un USA imo:) Presidency kind of died at the end of last year.
10:40 PM Crom: Trump week in twitter
10:40 PM XXCoder: one where hosile takeover means actual war
10:41 PM LeelooMinai: There's a Troll in Chief and desintegration of the political system pretty much.
10:44 PM Crom: Read the 'reset manifesto' and 'unintended consequences '
10:47 PM XXCoder: LeelooMinai: Syndicate Wars
10:47 PM XXCoder: finally found name
10:48 PM LeelooMinai: Did not play it, but yes, I guess same idea.
10:48 PM LeelooMinai: But a medal to anyone who predicts how all of this will end...
10:49 PM LeelooMinai: At this point I have no idea:)
10:51 PM jym: LeelooMinai: chaos
10:51 PM LeelooMinai: Chaos is not the end... Unless humanity fails completely:p
10:52 PM LeelooMinai: After chaos usually comes something more organized...
11:08 PM XXCoder: LeelooMinai: apparently there was a "remake" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AAki0qV4tc
11:09 PM LeelooMinai: XXCoder: lol, ironically I am just typing some response on YouTube comments to a guy that started his with "I think video games are for children, fatties and morons. "
11:13 PM XXCoder: lol
11:13 PM XXCoder: probably cant play for shit
11:13 PM roycroft: video games are for them that enjoy them;
11:13 PM XXCoder: I cant play for shit but in least I'm honest
11:13 PM roycroft: no need to be judgemental about folks who like gaming
11:14 PM LeelooMinai: He also wrote "atheists in the west are passionate about homosexuality, drugs and video games.", and by accident I got pulled into some bible verse interpretations and other weird territory:/
11:15 PM XXCoder: sometimes its like sudden greased slide down into insanity
11:16 PM XXCoder: you could go from solar panel wiring and power management to overunity insanity in minutes'
11:17 PM LeelooMinai: Yes, well, I remember some TV program long time ago, called I think "Connections" or something like that. It was about going from weirdly unrelated facts step by step.
11:18 PM LeelooMinai: Or rather going from one to another by finding connections between one step and another.
11:18 PM XXCoder: interesting
11:19 PM LeelooMinai: O, found it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connections_(TV_series)
11:19 PM LeelooMinai: Anyhow, YouTube has this dendency too - within few steps you can end up pretty much anywhere:)
11:20 PM roycroft: jacob bronowski
11:20 PM roycroft: good series
11:20 PM XXCoder: indeed lee. never watched connection series. apparently dvd pack exists
11:21 PM LeelooMinai: Kind of ancient by now -1978...
11:26 PM roycroft: 1978 was a very good year
11:27 PM XXCoder: too bad I was 2 back then lol
11:27 PM roycroft: president carter signed the bill legalizing homebrewing in 1978
